Mexican army finds tunnel in northern border city

MEXICO CITY-- The Mexican army says it has found a 50-yard (meter) long tunnel starting under a building in the northern city of Nogales, which is across the border from Nogales, Arizona.

The Defense Department says the tunnel two yards (meters) under the surface may have been used to cross the border into the United States. However, the department's statement Sunday does not say whether the tunnel actually reaches into U.S. territory or whether any entrance on the U.S. side has been found.

Such tunnels found previously in Nogales and elsewhere on the border have been used to move drugs or migrants.

The tunnel was discovered by soldiers Friday. The army says one man carrying an illegal weapon was detained at the scene.

There seems to be so many tunnels in this area that some time soon the whole border might sink several feet and create a gully! LOL

The tunnel may have been used to cross the border into the United States. Hmmm. This wanna be brain surgeon has made a command decision. THE TUNNEL WAS MADE TO CROSS THE BORDER INTO THE UNITED STATES. Now it is official.

Instead of a fence at the border we need a man made gulley with inverted sides so that if anyone gets down in it they can't just easily climb up. If anyone attempted to build a bridge, it would be more easily seen than an underground tunnel.

This is possible cause Mexico has a lot of large cities that sit on the boarder and America has next to none.

Being a resident living on the border about 60 miles from Nogales, I can honestly say the border around here has more holes in it than my wife's favorite pasta strainer! I can always tell when the illegals are running the alleys at night behind my house because mine and all the rest of the dogs in the neighborhood start barking at once. I've got Border Patrol cruising the alleys at all hours as well. Welcome to Southern Arizona!
