@NYMike-He means you can't punish them without getting the words "child abuse" thrown at you. There are parents out there who punish their kids and get called on for child abuse and they aren't allowed to touch them anymore. That's like when a parent spanks their little toddler for misbehaving and someone takes it as child abuse. The kid will not learn if he is not punished for what he does wrong.

This reminds me of the child who was told by his parents that Santa couldn't bring him the bicycle he wanted for Christmas this year. After giving it some thought the boy came upon an idea. He went to his bedroom and knelt by his bed and prayed "Heavenly Father please give me a new bike.". He ran downstairs and looked under the tree and found there was no new bike. He went back up and said the same prayer and again found no bike under the tree. He said the same prayer for the third time and went and checked. Still no new bike under the tree. Frustrated, the boy went over to the nativity scene and picked up Jesus and took it upstairs. He carefully rapped it in paper placed it in a shoe box and put it in the back of his parents closet. He then went and prayed "Heavenly Father, if you ever want to see your son again......".

My thoughts are that she knows that Santa is a fairy tale. My children often call my husband and me Mr. and Mrs. Claus. What is this was a real threat to kill her parents? Her mother may be trying to get the girl everything she wants as an act of self-preservation. She may be afraid for her life. We don't know what other crazy behavior this girl has demonstrated before. I also think she should have been taught from a very small child that she doesn't get whatever she wants. She has obviously received no training at all. I think the parents have created this monster by refusing to set limits on her behavior with strong, non-negotiable consequences, allowing her to believe she is entitled to whatever she wants regardless of it's cost to others, etc. She should get NOTHING for Christmas and spend the day having her wish to feed the homeless honored. I'm sure there are nearby shelters, refuge camps, or something. I think her parents also should decide how much they would have spent on Christmas gifts for this girls and take her and make her spend the money on small gifts for needy children. She should be made to spend Christmas Eve day wrapping the gifts beautifully and Christmas Eve night should be driven around to shelters delivering the gifts to the needy children.

I have ALWAYS said chldren do not know the real meaning of Christmas. She was afraid she wouldn't get ALL the gifts she asked for???? If that was my child, she would get nothing. Well, she would get to spend a day volunteering at the local homeless shelter. We all hope she was "kidding" but a sick way to kid around.

NYMike - Are you serious!! As a child, when spanking was acceptable, the foul mouthed, disrespectable attitude that permeate children now was dealt with...severely! It made for better adjusted people, who at the very least respected other people rather than threatening them. If some one wronged me I just stayed away from them and never threatened them, especially not Santa. I didn't get my present? You were lucky if you got any thing at all and were grateful, it made me work harder. Instead we have a generation that reacts with violence and threats. They are not prepared to deal with the future.

JMO2011, I hear you. I've worked in retail and it's amazing what people allow their children to do. It's a pity you didn't tell the parent " Could I interest you in a nice lawsuit today?" Sometimes I think that's the only thing that registers with these "absentee" parents.

LOL!!! I remember shopping with my sister one time, we were in the hardware section trying to pick out paint, and this lady had her 3(ish) year old in a cart, right by the paint chips. He was pulling them out of the slots and dumping them all over the floor. "Mother" was oblivious, even though she was standing right there. At one point, he even tried my paint chip cards out of my hand, screeching like a banshee the whole time.

My sister, meanwhile, casually picked up a roll of duck tape, and walked over to the lady....tape in one hand, credit card in the other and said "Ma'm....I'll give you everything in my credit card account if I can duct tape this miserable little bastard to the ceiling until we're done picking out our paint."

The lady was furious and left in a huff, and we literally laughed ourselves to tears, and we stayed in giggle fits the whole time we were helping the clerk sort paint chips.

So now I've got red teeth marks, bruising and a nice lump where the little sh!t bit me.....in the 20 years I've been in the insurance industry, this was a first!!!!

Our mother walked out on us too. I still got punished when I did something wrong. I didn't grow up with mental problems because of either of those things. People need to stop hovering over these children and let them learn life's realities.
