Australian police found $6.5 million worth of gems, jewelry, cash, silver bullion and antiques, in a storage unit on Wednesday. They believe the stash is the result of a string of robberies across Sydney and Melbourne in September.
Police on Wednesday uncovered a treasure trove of allegedly stolen goods in a storage unit in Sydney, Australia, including silver bullion, jewelry and 4 million Australian dollars in cash, according to reports.
The Australian Associated Press reported that the total value of the goods is around $6.5 million, and that the loot is believed to be the result of a string of robberies across Sydney and Melbourne in September.
In addition to the cash and 264 pounds of silver bricks likely cast from melted-down jewelry, New South Wales police found pistols, war medals and precious gems.

Included in the treasure trove was 264 pounds of silver bricks likely cast from melted-down jewelry.
They found the items after carrying out a search warrant on a storage facility in Waterloo, Sydney.
Police investigating the September burglaries arrested two men on December 19. The father-and-son pair, aged 56 and 33, are being held in Victoria, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

New South Wales police found 4 million Australian dollars in cash in the Sydney storage unit.
"We believe there may be a number of owners of both commercial and residential premises who are unaware that their safes have been tampered with and entered and that their property has been taken," Acting Assistant Commissioner Mal Lanyon said according to the Herald.
Lanyon said the thieves were highly sophisticated and planned out their robberies carefully, but he did not detail their methodology.

In addition to the jewelry and cash, police found pistols and war medals.
Police were urging people to check their safes in case they had been targeted and were unaware of it, the Herald reported.

Good thing Dave Hester didn't get that locker,YUP.
Would have been good to see Barry Weiss finally win one.
YUUUUP!
If he did he would go on and on about how brilliant he is. Even if he got the unit by dumb luck.
That's a locker with the WOW FACTOR!
There are going to be some very sad people in Australia when they realize that their valuables are gone. It is likely that some of them are not going to get it back. Very sad day for them.
Storage wars the unemployed persons last hope of getting that American Dream. Yuuuuuuuuup
Amazing how tele (vision) blinds most into believing the hype. For the fans do a search on some of the items they say are worth so much. I have and they bloat the prices on most of the stuff. Ebay baby. And really if you found that much money you would speak up and tell everyone??????????
Good thing the cops got it now maybe some granny will get her necklace heirloom's back
Ohh MY GOD!, Just got back from checking the safe, and I had large Freezer bags stuffed with money and a nice pile of silver bricks. Oh, I see from the pictures you found it. Please send back to America, they must have stolen my plane and flown it all there, the B@stards.
My bags contained US money, they must have converted it, OHH the humanity of it all :(
They auction storage units in Australia?
I think someone would have noticed a little of the loot before they let it go to auction.
Sorry, but I read elsewhere that this was not an ABANDONED storage unit; it was found as part of the police investigation.
I didn't read anywhere that it was an abandoned unit. I gathered from the info that it belonged to the two people that were arrested.
Why so serious
YUUUP!
boom baby
with the stuff that they found in there it would have a good one for the YOUNG GUN
crime never pays
tell that to the democratic party.
The republican party thinks it does...
You're all a bit touched...
It's not Dems or Repubs but BOTH!
Yep, like father, like son. I hope the son thanks his dad for teaching him good values. "son, don't you ever work just take from others"
Are you referring to Bush I and Bush II?
Obama and the Democrats love crooks that imitate them. Redistribution of wealth. Killing the golden goose is the object of Obama, Pelosi and Biden. One thing that the crooks did not learn is you must spend the wealth, not store it.
Thomas you said (Killing the golden goose is the object of Obama, Pelosi and Biden)
Sorry Thomas the golden goose is not real. That's just a fairy tale
Maybe the GOP has lied to you about it?
Yea I just checked my safe and realized I am missing a few pounds of silver and a few hundred thousand in cash, can I have it back please?
Your post is funny. However, there are some people who are not going to get their valuables back...real bummer!
Not if you have homeowners insurance!!!
Those bums flew to America and hit my safe too. Bummer
j/k
Now I know where to go treasure hunting when I go to Australia for vacation.
good advice that why we have politicians
Wow, Australians are so rich they carry around bricks of silver and have to be told by police to check and see if any are missing! I need to find an Australian girlfriend!
If you read the article, the silver bricks are most likely from melted down jewelry

It does pay to read the article you are commenting on.
Damn, I couldn't remember where I put that stuff.
too bad for that poor pistol , most likely it will get melted down by the aussie police instead of returned to the owner that it was stolen from , i bet the silver never gets returned to the owners either , the popo will just keep the stuff
Which police station was it......I gotta buy a ticket to Australia and visit those hard working popo's
HEY! I recognise that silver...I think it's mine! Wait, no I have printer ink worth way more than that per oz.
You're not a Brit... So RECOGNIZE..
I wouldn't be surprised if most of the lockers on tv hasn't already been look in by the storage rental owners before auctioning them off. Who knows who's lock it is when they cut it off. The storage owners could just put on a junk lock after taking anything out they like, then auction off the other stuff. The possibility is there.
Storage companies do enter the locker prior to the auction. 9 times out of 10 they do and they will give a brief description of what is in the locker to be auctioned off. That don't tell you that on Storage Wars.
Jim-let me enlighten you and answer your question. And while I am at it shed some light on the "Storage Wars" business. I am a sefl storage manager and for 9 of the last 12 years in the business was a regional manager that over saw 24 stores across the US. If you believe ANYTHING at all on these shows, I have a beautiful ocean front property in Utah I will seel you for a .01...
These shows are the stupidest thing I have ever seen. They have brought out the IDIOT in all people. We have seen a huge increase in attendance at our auctions, prices being inflated and people being sadly disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it is great for me because I get your money for being an idiot. So by all means believe everything you see and buy lots of units. The negative side is all these idiots have run off the regulars who actually know what they are doing. So when all the dumb people finally wake up one day and say maybe this isn't really true, the regulars have moved on to other ventures and we will all lose.
No Jim, to answer your question, there are some criminal minded managers in this world. Seen my share, fired my share. But...for the most part they do it right. Lock cuts are or should be done by an outside party. We video tape ours. We cut your lock, inventory the unit by what we see FROM THE DOOR and put a managers lock on and a lock the outside party has the only key too, as well as a numbered tag. At auction day that tag better match the original paperwork signed by the outside source. Pretty simple, and trust me, MOST units only have crap in them. Nothing worth stealing. Dont get me wrong this would have been a great find, but they are very few and far between. In 12 years, have seen some unusual and some gruesome stuff.
debatethecase, only from the door is the law in most states. Storage wars doesn't share A LOT of information. You wouldn't watch if they did...lol
Monkeysnana09, Your right, only from the door. That's what is done in IL and then they publish it in the local paper of what they saw. ( tote's boxes, etc) And your also right about the moron's that come out now looking to hit it big and they inflate the bids on the units and end up with crap.
