Islam terror group tells Christians: Leave north Nigeria or be attacked

Christians have been warned by a militant Islamist group to leave northern Nigeria or be attacked, according to media reports.

Abul Qaqa, a purported spokesman for Boko Haram, said the terror group was “giving a three-day ultimatum to the southerners living in the northern part of Nigeria to move away”, the English language Vanguard newspaper reported.

The group has been linked to many attacks on Christians, most notably the bombings on Christmas Day killed 49 people, most of them at a Catholic church as services were ending.

Nigeria’s 160 million people are divided between the mainly Muslim north and predominately Christian south.

Qaqa said Boko Garam wished "to call on our fellow Muslims to come back to the north".

The BBC reported that Nigeria’s president, Goodluck Jonathan, declared a state of emergency on Saturday in parts of four states hard hit by violence blamed on Boko Haram.

It said Mr Jonathan vowed to "crush" the group, which he said "started as a harmless group" but had "now grown cancerous".

Human rights activist Shehu Sani told CNN that the latest Boko Haram threat was credible, but many Christians born and raised in the north have nowhere else to go.

"The killings will continue," he told CNN, adding that the state of emergency and an enhanced presence of the security forces would not improve the situation, alleging that troops had already been involved in human rights abuses and had done little to reduce violence.

David Cook of Rice University, who has studied the rise of Boko Haram, told CNN that "if radical Muslim violence on a systematic level were to take hold in Nigeria ... it could eventually drive the country into a civil war."

Happy New Year to you too Muslims from Nigeria. We couldn't accept anything less from you. Unbelievable how these people have nothing positive to add to a new year, only death and destruction. I'm sure their country will continue to prosper with this kind of mentality. Ignorant Sons of Bitches.

One could argue that Christians are the same way.

17 million killed "in the name of Jesus Christ" throughout history cannot be wrong.

Political scientist R. J Rummel of the University of Hawaii calculates that during the 20th century alone, war and civil wars cost about 38 million lives and state sponsored persecutions, mass murder and genocide account for 169 million victims. Many at the hands of great athesits like, Hitler, Stalin, Moa, Pol Pot, etc.

Regrettably, many who perform acts in the name of Jesus Christ know nothing about his teachings nor are they his followers.

Hitler was not an atheist. He was born into a Christian family but began to distrust Christians as a form of social decay but he was not an atheist. In fact he was obsessed with religious artifacts and collecting them

So what's your position? They deserved it? The old "I know I am but so are you" argument?

The Republicans have tried to justify their barrage of hate media by saying the Dems do it too... lame argument and no where near the same level of hate... just like today with Islam compared to Christianity... a VERY uneven terror intensity at the moment.

@Joe - He very much was an Atheist. He renounced his upbringing. Here is a quote from Hitler ""The reason why the ancient world was so pure, light and serene was that it knew nothing of the two great scourges: the pox and Christianity."

While Hitler was seeking power he embraced Christianity in his speeches. After election, he showed his true colors.

If Islam is the religion of peace, as our muslim brothers and sisters here in America say, I will believe them when their Imams come out tomorrow morning on the Today Show with Tom Brokejaw and tell their bretheren to stop with the threats of violence. As supposedly An Imams decree is a step below an Ayatollah's regardless of where in the world they are. And when we see mass rallies for peace in the streets of Dearborn, Mi. tomorrow afternoon I will believe ALL the stories they try to convince us of.

Good people will do good things and bad people will do bad things regardless of their affiliations.

Atheism is the lack of belief in a deity, not the lack of morals. Our moral compass is as universal as our body language- we don't need outside help to be ethical and kind. Some atheists are probably not great people. The same goes for Christians, Muslims, or any other religious (or non-religious) group.

Atheism, is a lack of belief in all gods. Christianity, Islam, and Judaism is a lack of belief in all gods except the Abrahamic god (plus their religious texts). Nobody perpetrates violence because of something they don't believe in. People perpetrate violence because they believe passionately in something (and are willing to kill to get it). As history tells us, religion has often been that something.

If you're angry because you value your religion as something noble and dignified and feel attacked by the idea that all the attention goes to violence perpetrated by others in the name of that religion, fine. I probably would be too if I identified with any religion. But don't project your baggage onto atheists by pointing your finger at dictators and implying that their terrible actions were caused by their atheism.

You guys can think what you want, but regardless I will continue to value my integrity and ethics without needing religion as a moral life jacket to tell me what's right.

there has no relation to religions for me, In my point of view, it is in the state of mentality, intellectual capacity and most of all is the result of mixtures of incompatible GENETICS, or DNAs,

it is in the blood characteristics that no one can tell, that a person with this kind of DNA's has a twisted mentality. that even his /her self know nothing what he is doing. or I read a long time ago, from one scientist, most of human being are having insanity, or level of insanity.

Some said like Democratic form of government can be achieved in a short term, it is a long process, means first the government of any form that will transform to democratic government will experiencing a process that will took centuries.

At a government level, if there is no requirement that religion and the running of the country need to be separate you end up with using religion as a means to amass political power. this is not Islam vs. Christianity (or Judaism or Buddhism or.. whatever) it is one group looking to amass political power using the religious fervor of its followers.

Muslims hate everyone, we all know that, let them show the world what they really feel and let's get past this peace loving Muslim concept, it is flawed and Peace is not something Muslims want at all. We need to love them just as much as ourselves, pray for them and ask GOD to move in their lives.

Don't know why Earth's people refuse to believe that Islam is a relegion that promotes violence and radicalisim. If they wanted to stop all the violence directed outward, they would. But the Muslim people will not stop it for thier own sakes. They must agree with what is being done in the name of their religion. Therefore they are turning into an enemy of all civilized free people of the world, not just Christians.

Their leaders preach violence, kill people, still have barbaric laws, and are a plague to the stability of the entire Globe. Anyone who thinks its their job to impose their religious beliefs on everyone in the world, need to be killed. Maybe put some dead pigs and pig blood everywhere. Maybe that will get the message across to all these idiots.

I'm glad you're taking ownership of Christian Hitler's horrors. Given that he was a proud Catholic, professed his Catholic faith on every possible opportunity, and signed Nazi Germany's very first treaty with the Vatican, you don't really have much choice do you?

"My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter." -Hitler, 1922.

Stalin was also a seminary student. The Russian Orthodox Church to this day produces religious icons with Stalin's image on them.

@RealWorldProgressive- I am just wondering where you get your "facts". Hitler hated Christianaty, thinkging it too Jewish and that it drained warrior spirit of the "Germanic" race. You bring up the treaty with the Vatican, well it did not stop him from murdering hundreds of priests in Poland and other nations his forces overan. But you really top your self with your statement on Stalin. Any one who claims that Russian Orthodox Church would put Stalin image on an icon does not know first thing about that Church or about Stalin. Stalin murdered tens of thouthands of Russian Orthodox priests, took away Church's property, and closed thier institutions. He was to the Church as close to the devel as they could imagine. Oh, and to be put on the icon you have to be a SAINT. What part of Stalin's life qualified him for that? And in case you are wondering I am not even Christian, just some one who reads.

This may be hard for you to believe, but being rational with irrational people can break through their insanity and moderate their emotions. The Koran does promote killing of infidels, and every Muslim is required to memorize the Koran, so it keeps perpetuating the fear of obedience. It took time to rationally moderate Christianity from its murderous superstitions, and it will take time to rationally moderate Islam from its murderous superstitions. It takes courage to confront religious rage, but giving in to fear is the effect that those who incite terror want.

                    dls-387641,

Great point, but it is necessary to qualify - the Bible shows Christ came to save (not kill) the Gentiles and even God's chosen Hebrews had to accept Him for eternal salvation. The Koran says good Muslims can kill infidels. Big difference: historical Christian superstitions to murder were man made and not founded in doctrine, like Islam is.

Jesus also said, If anyone have something against you, go make peace before you bring your offering to the alter. I'm reading the Koran (in English) to see what it actually says as I suspect it holds to the Golden Rule like other religions. I suspect that Nigeria is driven more by historic tribal rivalries than any devotion to religious ideologies.

Stalin wasn´t a christian, Soviet communism was decisively atheist and belonging to the Russian Orthodox Church was a "no no" for true Party members.

On the other hand, Boko Garam is just a group of heretics that are hoping to divide the country into North Nigeria and South Nigeria on the basis of religion: they can never hope to achieve power in a united country so they are looking to dominate a region which in turn will allow them to divide the country on the maps. Happened in Vietnam, happened in Korea...will happen in Nigeria.

Stalin, who studied to be a priest, suppressed the Russian Orthodox Church and other religions because he wanted a be a cult of absolute power and saw religion as a potential source of opposition. Stalin wasn't an atheist as a theological atheist, he didn't want any other claim to power in the Soviet Union. Atheism is basically a position that there is no evidence for the existence of a centralized universal power in control of the universe. No tyrant could ever claim to be an atheist, even though they dismiss the existence of a religious god. Mortality always disproves the tyrants claim to absolute power. Communism is actually a historical artifact of the Christian Heaven only to be made here on earth. Communism has been anti-religion because religion was viewed as justifying class structure and preventing the progress of the working class.

Chsman "Stay strong in your faith and just ignore them"

If you accepted that doctrine over there, you might be asking God in a few days why he has forsaken you as you watch your home burn and an angry mob descends upon your friends and family with the evilest of intent.

Although I am a closet Athiest, I do respect your faith deeply. If they were here on our own doorstep being threatened with death, you may wish you had armed yourself when the screams of your wife, sons and daughters become too much to bear.

Sonar, our Bible lets us know to anticipate & accept that many will mock us and we, as Christians, will be persecuted. It is our peace that we know this earth is not our final resting place, but that our Father in heaven has prepared a glorious home for us when this toil is done. It certainly is not in the hope that one day ignorant men would accept Jesus Christ as the only true Messiah. Our Bible also states that, "many will hear but few will listen." You could say we live in the clouds, but personally, I find that this life here is the rarest type of hell. C.S. Lewis is the only author of our time to allude to this fact and he was right on! Thank you for your tolerant comments, it is appreciated.

Prohibition in the US was a failed experiment of control. (It did not stop Americans from imbibing alcoholic beverages). All of mankind has, for at least 9,000 years, partaken of beer, wine, and alcoholic spirits. Perhaps Islam would not be so aggressive or intolerant if it drank a little wine from time to time! Every civilization has done so! Where do you think Shiraz stems from? Peace brothers (and a good chateau).

Following Jesus Christ is in no way a religion...its a relationship :-) Those who think they know more then that have no knowledge of the truth. Therefore its foolish to think otherwise. :-)

Organized religion always has been and will continue to be the root of all evil in the world today. The worst attrocities are always committed in the name of organized religion and an imaginary false creator god that manifests himself as a human. When will the stupid sheeple of the world wake up to science and proven fact and stop following fairy tales that were created to control them in a time when people thought the world was flat? Remember that with magical (religious) thinking, things are true unless proven false; ie: "prove that god does not exist" would be a standard example of magical thinking. In the REAL world, things are false unless proven true; ie: " prove I own a lamp shop on Main Street in Boise" which can be conclusively proven or disproven.

Organized religion needs to be taxed and heavily regulated like the business it is. False claims that cannot be proven as fact need to be criminalized. Organized religion is the biggest con and the main cause of all wars and hatred. Ideally, organized religion should be banned, but it is too profitable for those that preach. It is the biggest con of them all.

That so many desperate stupid humans will follow a fairy tale and talk with imaginary friends should be truly frightening to all who have thinking brains. Adults who speak to imaginary friends are psychotic.

Well if you wish to prove things, then prove evolution. I'm not asking you to change a lizard into a goat or anything else you hold faith too. I just want you to create one single living cell. Remember, it had to happen by chance, so it should be no problem to you brilliant people. If it doesn't work, try praying.

Pray for that same cell and see what ends up in your hand. Man has cloned animals from a single cell. Lets see prayer come close to that with any documentation other than a story book.

To Glenn767: In the 150 years plus since Darwin published "On The Origin Of Species" there have been millions (billions?) of facts that support and prove evolution, none that disprove it. Yet only thru "Faith" can you prove a creator, no facts just fairy tales from thousands of years ago. I would challenge your intellegence but your "Faith" answers that question. Evolution won't change a lizard into a goat, it would change a lizard into a more survivable lizard (Have you ever read any book but the bible?). If you can't express it in numbers than it's not a fact but an opinion. You probably don't believe we ever went to the moon.

Science admits it doesn't have all the answers, that's why we keep searching for the positive answer. That's where theories come into play, based on logic and proof. Religion starts with an answer then fits the questions to suit its desires.

I am not an athiest, but I have taken much time to to study both the Bible and History. I don't belong to an organized religion. Belief is a matter of faith not blindly following what some Man tells you. If you studied alittle history, you would see that what is happening now has been going on since Abrahm, or did you forget he had two sons, Ishmael and Isac. Did God not tell Hagar That her son would also be the father of a mighty nation. So what we have going on is a family fued in the name of Religion. I quit going to church, after I heard preachers in different denominations, put down the others and say their teaching was the only one to listen to. I have had every denomination Knock on my door, but never a Muslim. Not all Muslims are out to kill us only the radicals. If you would read the Life of Muhammed or a history of what was going on in the 6th and 7th centuries you would Know where The Holy War thing came from. After his death his followers deceided to keep on fighting instead of stop. Many mordern Christian women cover their heads with scarves as well as modern Jewish and Muslim women, only the radicals call for anything more. It is all what you are brain washed to believe in, or forced to!

OK, so maybe you are an atheist with a soft spot for Islam but hate Christianity, that's your choice. But let me tell you, I read the Bible many times and I read the Koran, in Arabic quite a few times. Since you brought up the story about Ishmael, probably you know that while Genesis said that Abraham was going to sacrifice Isaac, the Koran said that it was Ishmael who was going to be sacrificed. and that Abraham, Hagar and everybody else were actually living near Mecca. So I guess Islamic misinformation was born with the Koran.

Anyway none of these have anything to do with an Islamic terrorist group bent on ethnic cleansing in the twenty-first century AD in the name of their God.

If you use your judgement to understand the Book while reading it you might understand it wrongly. When reading the Qur'an one has to have a Tafsir handy. Tafsirs are accepted commentaries to the Qur'an written centuries ago by prominent Muslim theologians. They comment on each verse of the Qur'an so that you understand the meaning of each verse in the original context. Unless you read it without the Tafsirs you will find what looks like calls to violence and wars against non-Muslims. Unlike the Bible, Qur'an is not just a book you can interpret on your own without proper religious education and qualifications. As far as this conflict in Nigeria goes, it is a tribal conflict. They just wrap their wars in religious wrapping.

The Word TAFSIR is an arabic word تفسير which is derived from the root 'fassara' . Someone who writes tafsir is a 'mufassir...". IBN KATHIR - Famous Mufassir (commentator of Quran) مفسر . Well known and respected for his keen memory and a highly regarded scholar of tafsir (commentary) - Born 1302 AD. Memorized entire Quran, word-for-word along and memorized huge number of sayings and teachings (hadeeth) of the prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, along with sayings and commentary about Quran from Muhammad's companions, may Allah be pleased with them. The Tafsir of Ibn Kathir is of the most respected and accepted explanations for the Quran and is the most widely used explanations in Arabic used today. The difficulty of translating Quran to English is quite another problem and not one to be taken lightly nor is it for the average translators to decide what is meant by the words of Almighty God.

While we agree it is impossible to bring the exact meaning of everything from Quran to English, it is our intention to bring about a better understanding for non-Arab speakers at least a basic understanding of the meaning of the Quran for the English speaking readers.

This site presents the work of scholarly experts of Arabic, English, hadeeth and tafsir, together with the Guidance of Almighty God - the Explanation of God's Words in simple English.

Unless you read it without the Tafsirs you will find what looks like calls to violence and wars against non-Muslims

because that is what it clearly states.

What will the world be like, when a child born today, reaches the age of twenty five. Will there still be a struggle (jihad) going on between Islam (dar al-Islam)and the West (Dar al-harb)? the definitions give a clue.

This forces me to raise some most unpopular questions, on some widely held beliefs. While I recognise America is not at war with Islam.

Islam,is at war with disbelief,in it self. Failure to obtain proper and full submission, will end always with bloody results.

Can everyone with a differing opinion, from the "politically correct club", be dismissed as "Faux-News" can you consider yourselves intellectually honest, after doing so?

Muslims are people, who can be, or do, anything they please.

Islam is submission to an Orthodox ideology. It's legal rules and code can be documented.
                                                And critiqued.

Allah conveys the News that there will be Many Cases of Jihad, and that Jihad distinguishes the Rank

Scholars of Tafsir differ over who the people mentioned here are. They are people experienced at warfare who will be called to fight. There are many opinions, first, they are the tribe of Hawazin, as Shu`bah narrated from Abu Bishr from Sa`id bin Jubayr, or `Ikrimah, or both of them. Hushaym narrated this explanation from Abu Bishr, from both Sa`id bin Jubayr and `Ikrimah. Qatadah, as narrated from him in one version, held the same view. The second view is that these people are the tribe of Thaqif, according to Ad-Dahhak. The third view is that they are Banu Hanifah, according to Juwaybir and Az-Zuhri, as Muhammad bin Ishaq narrated from him. Similar was narrated from Sa`id bin Jubayr and `Ikrimah. The fourth opinion is that they are the Persians, according to `Ali bin Abi Talhah who reported that from `Abdullah bin `Abbas. This is also the view of `Ata', Mujahid, and `Ikrimah. Ka`b Al-Ahbar said that they are the Romans, while Ibn Abi Layla, `Ata, Al-Hasan and Qatadah -- in a different narration from him, said that they are the Persians and Romans. Mujahid also said that they are the idolators. In another narration Mujahid said, "They are men given to great warfare,'' and did not specify any particular people. This last explanation is the view preferred by Ibn Jurayj and Ibn Jarir. Allah's statement,

                                                ﴿تُقَـتِلُونَهُمْ أَوْ يُسْلِمُونَ﴾

(Then you shall fight them, or they shall surrender.) means, `you are called to fight them in Jihad, through constant warfare, until you become victorious over them or they surrender. Or, they will embrace your religion without a fight, but with their full consent.' Allah the Exalted and Most Honored said next,

                                                ﴿فَإِن تُطِيعُواْ﴾

(Then if you obey,) `if you accept the call to Jihad and prepare for it and fulfill your duty in this regard,'

                                                ﴿يُؤْتِكُمُ اللَّهُ أَجْراً حَسَناً وَإِن تَتَوَلَّوْاْ كَمَا تَوَلَّيْتُمْ مِّن قَبْلُ﴾

(Allah will give you a fair reward; but if you turn away as you turned away before,) `on the day of Al-Hudaybiyyah, when you were called to Jihad, yet lagged behind,'

                                                ﴿يُعَذِّبْكُمْ عَذَاباً أَلِيماً﴾

(He will punish you with a painful torment.)

link two. Will there still be a struggle (jihad)

                                                Jihad is made Obligatory

In this Ayah, Allah made it obligatory for the Muslims to fight in Jihad against the evil of the enemy who transgress against Islam. Az-Zuhri said, "Jihad is required from every person, whether he actually joins the fighting or remains behind. Whoever remains behind is required to give support, if support is warranted; to provide aid, if aid is needed; and to march forth, if he is commanded to do so. If he is not needed, then he remains behind.'' It is reported in the Sahih:

                                                «مَنْ مَاتَ وَلَمْ يَغْزُ وَلَمْ يُحَدِّثْ نَفْسَهُ بِالْغَزْوِ، مَاتَ مِيتَةً جَاهِلِيَّــة»

(Whoever dies but neither fought (i.e., in Allah's cause), nor sincerely considered fighting, will die a death of Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic era of ignorance).)

On the day of Al-Fath (when he conquered Makkah), the Prophet said:

                                                «لَا هِجْرَةَ بَعْدَ الْفَتْحِ وَلكِنْ جِهَادٌ وَنِيَّةٌ، وَإِذَا اسْتُنْفِرْتُمْ فَانْفِرُوا»

(There is no Hijrah (migration from Makkah to Al-Madinah) after the victory, but only Jihad and good intention. If you were required to march forth, then march forth.)

                                                Allah's statement:

                                                ﴿وَهُوَ كُرْهٌ لَّكُمْ﴾

(...though you dislike it) means, `Fighting is difficult and heavy on your hearts.' Indeed, fighting is as the Ayah describes it, as it includes being killed, wounded, striving against the enemies and enduring the hardship of travel. Allah then said:

                                                ﴿وَعَسَى أَن تَكْرَهُواْ شَيْئًا وَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ﴾

(. ..and it may be that you dislike a thing which is good for you) meaning, fighting is followed by victory, dominance over the enemy, taking over their lands, money and offspring. Allah continues:

                                                ﴿وَعَسَى أَن تُحِبُّواْ شَيْئًا وَهُوَ شَرٌّ لَّكُمْ﴾

(...and that you like a thing which is bad for you.)

This Ayah is general in meaning. Hence, one might covet something, yet in reality it is not good or beneficial for him, such as refraining from joining the Jihad, for it might lead to the enemy taking over the land and the government. Then, Allah said:

                                                ﴿وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنتُمْ لاَ تَعْلَمُونَ﴾

(Allah knows, but you do not know.) meaning, He has better knowledge than you of how things will turn out to be in the end, and of what benefits you in this earthly life and the Hereafter. Hence, obey Him and adhere to His commands, so that you may acquire the true guidance.

First, the idea that there is one monolithic Islam is as asinine as the idea that there is one monolithic Christianity.

Muslims in general bear no more responsibility for Boko Haram than Christians do for the Irish Republican Army.

Boko Haram have not thought this through very well, though. Nigeria's oil wealth is largely concentrated in the Christian and Animist south.

Or maybe they figure they don't need the money. For funding, extremist Muslim groups like Boko Haram can rely on the ossified elite running the medieval theocracy of Saudi Arabia. Our ally.

I have to give it to the Atheists, it takes a lot of faith to be like them. They cannot prove their is no God, so they hold onto evolution with little proof. I would like them to do just one thing, create a single living cell. Remember, under your rules it was supposed to happen by chance. So seeing how you're so much more intelligent than the Christians, ( as stated in earlier posts) you should have no problem doing this. If you can't figure out how to do, trying praying. God has done it many times.

Glenn767, You are a perfect example of intolerance. You insult people like myself for not believing in a book that to us is completely absurd. I am not claiming to be smarter, or more educated than you.

Additionally, you are completely off the subject at hand. We need to stand together during these times. Christian people are about to be savagely attacked by Muslims who are about to commit Theocide, and you want to take this moment to bash anyone who does not adhere to your own faith?

It is like you want to finish playing a video game as the house is burning down. Makes no sense.

sonar guy, you are right we need all decent human beings of every religion Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Baha'i, you name it and yes all atheists and agnostics are needed in this fight.

We must stand against a threat which is more dangerous than Fascism and Communism at their peak. Radical Islam is the most insidious plague the world has faced. Oil/drug money and a backward ideology from the dark ages came together to spread an inhuman message of hate all over the World.

In the West they manage to recruit some open minded liberals and convince them that criticizing Islam is the worst form of bigotry that has to be defeated; even if it means ignoring all the atrocities committed every day in the name of Islam.

The only reason I keep posting on these pages it to try and stop this madness.

On the other hand, there have been quite a few Muslim apologists who are engaged in an illogical propaganda campaign to whitewash Islam on this page, and I can not let them get away with their blatant lies. This propaganda machine is losing tracks as more and more vicious attacks by radical Muslims happen almost on a daily basis.
