WASHINGTON -- An Air Force investigation has found that an Afghan military officer "acted alone" when he killed eight American airmen and one American contractor last year.
Investigators concluded that Afghan Maj. Gen. Ahmed Gul simply set out to "kill Americans" when he went on a shooting rampage at the Kabul airport military training center on April 27.
Without warning, Gul opened fire with a 9mm automatic pistol in a meeting room crowded with Air Force instructors and Afghan military students, killing the nine Americans. Before killing himself with his own weapon, Gul wrote the words, "Allah is one" and "Allah in your name" in blood on a stairwell wall.
Despite those writings, the report did not find that Gul was an Islamic radical, either working with or influenced by the Taliban. Instead, the investigation found that Gul apparently suffered mental issues that were further compounded by financial problems.
Those killed in the incident include:
- Maj. Phillip D. Ambard, 44, of Edmonds Wash.
- Maj. Jeffrey O. Ausborn, 41, of Gadsden, Ala.
- Maj. David L. Brodeur, 34, of Auburn, Mass.
- Master Sgt. Tara R. Brown, 33, of Deltona, Fla.
- Lt. Col. Frank D. Bryant Jr., 37, of Knoxville, Tenn.
- Maj. Raymond G. Estelle II, 40, of New Haven Conn.
- Capt. Nathan J. Nylander, 35, of Hockley, Texas
- Maj. Charles A. Ransom, 31, of Midlothian, Va.
- Ret. U.S. Army Lt. Col. James McLaughlin Jr., 55, of Santa Rosa, Calif.

The definition of 'acting alone' should be clarified.
Can someone please remind me again why we are in Afghanistan?
^
@marlen101917 We are in Afghanistan for the opium .
And we help these people? Wow, we are a bunch of ass-holes.
simply set out to "kill Americans"
Funny how the U.S. media only labels a hate crime a hate crime when the perpetrator is a white male isn't it?
These islamists are a waste of life. We don't belong there
We don't belong there...Run and hide, run and hide....Wait a second, PhantomBeast are you there? Who is this "We"?
Well, I would say execute him, however; he already took care of that.
But he should get pretty good post hospice care from his 72 virgins.
The Devil will have 72 demons for him and torture him for ever.
There is no "72 virgins" thing in Islam. It is a myth that your media pushes into your heads. And you keep repeating this myth like a bunch of parrots.
Thx-now everything is better. It helps because it dehumanizes people-we all have full bladders
First, why those idiots in the military are still afraid of calling a spade a spade. If someone kill in the name of his religion you can either state the obvious "that this is a religiously motivated killing" or claim that this person was nuts. Any killer can claim the insanity defense, but the insanity of the Islamist is a widely spread disease inflicting millions of people world wide, and if we can't identify the disease, we can't cure it.
Second, Musafir, the 72 virgins is a Hadith by Muhammad and it is used by many Muslim terrorists to recruit gullible Muslims to carry out their deadly carnage. So even if you claim that this is a myth, it is not a myth in the minds of millions of Muslim-terrorists wanna-be.
Musafir,
The concept of 72 virgins (houri) refers to an aspect of paradise. In the Sunan al-Tirmidhi, one of the six major Hadith collections. Perhaps you should rethink your post.
Dale, the Koran is not conducive to thinking, only to following....that is if you can understand it.
{sigh}
I wonder when the entire human race finally blows itself up because of this disgraceful, religious, fantasy, disgusting, bull@!$%# .... the last few survivors will stand around and say: "Well, we can't blame people for believing what they want"
Am I the only one who wishes scientists would design a massive space-arc that would take us off this planet so everyone else could go about the business of killing themselves over patches of earth, crust and floating mantle?
No he wasn't a Islamic radical, he is just a regular one. When will we learn?
Islam hates us, not just a little bit, but a lot. We need to leave them in their own sandbox, they deserve each other, not decent treatment by caring folks.
Sorry Bill, but if you think Islam hates us, you just don't get it.
The point here is that Islam hates. That's it, that's all. If it's not us, it's them, or those, or these.
Islam is just another of a long long long list of human philosophies that attempt to say one and only one thing: My will be done. Mohammed started it in this particular case, and killed thousands of people that even raised an eyebrow to his thinking. He wasn't the first, he won't be the last.
Nobody that was taught to hate acts alone! They were taught. Therein lies the problem and the blame.
For humanity to recover from terrorism, we have to develop the legal concept that those that teach existing criminal behavior as normal, expected, or rewarded, are accessories to subsequently commited crimes by those that they teach.
Bill from Oregon, you say Muslims don't deserve decent treatment by caring folks? What would that "decent treatment" be? Invading their countries unprovoked, based on false reason, just to steal their resources? No one in the world believes your "spreading democracy" crap. A country run by special interest groups and banking cartels cannot, by definition, spend billions of dollars just to help some oppressed people become free from their dictators. Unless there are profits involved your country will not invade other countries. This war is for money and money only. As are most wars. Anyone who believes that businessmen that run this place will fight for something noble and not their profits is a moron. Sure, there are radicals who blow themselves up, killing your soldiers. What they are doing is wrong, but there is one thing they are right about. They can see through your bullcrap about bringing them democracy. Your country supported most hideous dictators around the world, and does to this day. They only dictators United States goes after are those who stop following US orders and begin acting in the interest of their own country, or side with some other superpower. Then the guy is demonized, his country is bombed, he is deposed and replaced by a new despot loyal to U.S. and you guys pull out waving your flags and yelling Mission Accomplished. Occasionally your country goes after a democratic nation that puts the people of that nation above profits of American corporations. Needless to say, you replace the democratic government of those nations with tyrants loyal to you. You Americans are good people, but very, very gullible. Your intentions as people are good, but you always follow most corrupt, evil, profiteers, like rats following a rat charmer. Where does this absolute trust in your state come from? Why do you believe that your country can do no evil? Your rulers accomplished more than the communist dictatorships did. Communist demanded open loyalty and support of their policy, and would kill or imprison anyone who disagreed, and people openly supported their government, but majority of them knew that it is all a bunch of crap. Your government does not demand support of their policy, does not kill you (not openly at least) for disagreeing, and you support it no matter what, without questioning or checking other sources of information. Your founding fathers gave you a great system, and you let a bunch of slimy politicians abuse it so badly. What a shame.
I agree with you 100%, Musafir!
Wow Musafir. Now replace the word government in your writings above with the world Islam and you just described 75% of muslims world wide. The other 25% are to scared to stand up for peoples rights, whether it be Muslims, Jews, Christians, Americans, Afghani's, Iraqis, etc... It sounds like it doesnt matter to you that we are trying, note I said trying, to install a better life for Afghani men, women, and children than they had before. This is like trying to squeeze blood from a rock or like trying to push a one ton boulder up Mt Everest. The people in Afghanistan are backward at best and the educated ones are to much like sheep or have become greedy under their new govt to care about the lesser people. American isnt perfect and yes, we stick our noses in where it doesnt belong but when muslims world wide (and it is a mix of ethnicities and country origins) decide to kill thousands of Americans, you can bet your sweet ass we are going after the country that is harboring them (Afghanistan).
Mohammed gave you a decent religion (at best) and you let a bunch of slimy politicians and mullahs abuse it so badly. What a shame.
Musafir, Narda,
You forget that in all the world, the followers of Islam seem to be always at odds with everyone else. The Muslim Turks slaughtered the Christian Armenians. The Muslims in northern Nigeria kill Christians. The Muslims of Pakistan terrorize the Hindus of India. Coptic Christians of Egypt, the original Egyptians, are persecuted. In Palestine, Muslims launch rockets into Israel. In Spain, France, England, Denmark, and Holland it is the Muslim immigrants who murder and kill in the name of their religion of "peace". It was "Muslims" who flew stolen planes into American buildings killing thousands of innocent civilians. Islam, like all extreme religions is a plague. Religion is like a computer virus, only one that infects the human mind.
Dale, you forget that followers of Christianity seem to be always at odds with everyone else. After all, it is Christendom that depopulated entire continents. North America is a prime example. You made Native American Indians a little hard to find. Millions upon millions were killed. Over 60 million Africans were killed throughout Western colonization of Africa. Now, before you say that I am anti-Christian or whatever, let me tell you this. We all committed horrible crimes. Muslims, Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Atheists, etc. Not a single of these groups is entirely innocent. Each committed genocides, persecutions of followers of other religions and beliefs, human rights abuses, torture, etc etc etc. Sure there are horrible crimes committed by Muslim fanatics in many countries. Just like there are horrible crimes committed by Christian fanatics in many countries. BUT MY MAIN QUESTION IS: I pointed out problems I see in modern American society. A problem of population turning into obedient sheep who don't question anything they are fed by their rulers. In response you say that Muslims commit crimes. HOW IS MUSLIM FANATICS COMMITTING CRIMES AN EXCUSE FOR AMERICAN PEOPLE TURNING INTO OBEDIENT SHEEP WHO NEVER QUESTION THE AUTHORITIES?
Musafir, don't worry about the OBEDIENT SHEEP in America, instead try to address the madness going on in Somalia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Iraq, Yemen. Try to challenge the Islamic theocracies in Saudi Arabia and Iran, and the Salafis who will impose it in Egypt, thus turning the cradle of civilization to another Somalia.
I guess if America follows your advice it will be just as civilized as all these shining example of Islamic civilization.
@Dale, yours is quite a one sided view. I suggest you first need to read what Musafir said in his first post and then respond appropriately.
What you see about terrorism and muslim involvement in terrorism is a right observation. But you need to put it in the right context. Musafir's first post does provide such context.
Christianity and Islam have always been engaged in power struggle. But christianity survived and triumphed because it allowed diversity of opinions and enjoyed renaissance. Islam unfortunately became more moribund over time. Today the Islamic societies are shut close to new thoughts, ruled by puppets from the west and their resources are looted in broad daylight. Then there are people who think the solution is to turn to religion. That's where Islam becomes much more volatile and we call that Islamic terrorism. And while Islam is already in danger, I sometimes wonder what America is becoming? I see secular America weathering away. The ethos of American society - freedom - justice - hard work - enterpreneurship - can do attitude - innovation ----- is really secular. By creating enemies where there is no need, American society is moving in a dangerous direction.
So while Middle East indeed is fast degerating, I would also worry about home right here. What this country has become and where it is headed.
We need to get all our troops and Americans out of this crap hole-waisting money and men and women, many troops damaged for life. There is no reason to even be there,BinLaden is dead and hwen we pull out in 2014 the Taliban will control this country in about 3,4 months.Bring home our troops now.We needs troops on our border with Mexico-we invade two countries while were have been invaded wwith out any shoots fired-Mexico has invaded America and think of how many Islamic terrorist have come acrodd the border.Dam Obama has told those under him to keep the Mexican border open-that is a fact. The people in Afghan hates us,90 some precent can't read or right-Afghan is really not a country-it's a bunch of tribes in one land, what does this country offer us-nothing.I pray that 2012 election Obama will lose big time-the worst president ever.look how he just want to keep adding to our nations debt with nothing to show for it.
This is what happens when you work with you're enemy.
what's "you're enemy"?
john was speaking of you are (or you're) enemy. So in john's mind, you are the enemy. As to who your enemy might be, well only john can answer that.
Even if the Taliban were to take over this primitive country, what danger do they present to us and don't say t e r r o r i s m ?
Hope the bastard enjoys hell for eternity
Whew, I'm glad he wasn't a radical, just a fellow with personal issues. Where did he get his education? You can bet it can be traced back to Saudi Arabia, as he listened to his local Imam. Pakistan and SA are our real enemies.
A pity. We need to leave that country and mind our own business.
Musafir, I am afraid that you have brought that Islamic mind set with you when you came to America. The mind set of "submit". Americans tend not to submit, but stand up against injustice. We have a good sense of what is right and what is wrong.
We can not do too much about what the Moslems do in their countries, but if their government supports people that attack the US, we will invade and try to help the people develop a government that will work for peace. I mean, the West even helped in the North African liberation. Where were the moslem governments? Oh, yeah, they are dictatorships.
Most Americans can see that if a stable government that represents the people doesn't come to power, then the Afghans are doomed to go back to living like slaves under the Taliban and the Afghan people do not deserve to be treated so poorly. In this case, it is our business.
Shame, and this guy with "mental issues" was promoted to Maj General?
Just he and Allah...Islam: such a peaceful religion.
Same applies to Christianity (remember the crusades, the inquisition, the witch burnings, the sexual abuse--oh, the list is endless!). But most Americans know nothing of history.
Narda,
The Christian abuses were a thousand years ago. The Muslim abuses are today.
Oh, he acted alone... well that ought to make us feel better how?
And I have a bridge to sell you if you believe this story....
umm, where is your outrage on this one ms clinton?
So, hold the families of this individual accountable for his transgressions. I don't see why you wouldn't. Seems actually like the logical step. No, I'm not saying we execute them, although, executing 9 members of his family would send a pretty clear message to anyone else waiting in line to commit Jihad. Simply, especially if it's an American citizen, award everything their family owns to the victims families. Put them out on the street, and make them deal with the repercussions. Maybe knowing their families suffer, after they commit these acts of cowardice, will make other potential morons think twice about it.
B Murphy, we are fighting to STOP BS like you are saying. WE AMERICANS believe in personal responsibility, NOT collective punishment.
The only thing to be learned from this is that weapons should be turned in to a guard before meetings or there needs to be armed guards in the meetings. I mean really folks, this is an active war zone, not some war game. But then again, we don't want to be "Culturally Insensitive" by making sure that the General cleared (unloaded) his weapon when he went on base and before he went into a building.
I mean, really...stop kissing these people's asses and make them unload their weapons when on base and submit to bomb checks like EVERYONE else.
Typical PC bullsh!t.
@ MOSinEUR: I fail to see how what I propose is 'typical PC Bull@!$%#', if anything it's on the extreme end of dealing with the problem. I never said it was a fair solution, simply, looking at it logically. How are you supposed to combat people who feel that if they do such a thing they'll go to the afterlife and have a Utopian eternity? Really, the only way is to make them understand before they do such things, that they're families will be held responsible, and likely suffer after they're gone. If they have anything remotely close to what we call human conscience...it'll make them think twice before killing innocent people.
Doesn't matter whether it be afghan, Iraqi.... their religion has a lot to do with this !! He's a hero to many, and their M.O. is to hit you while your not looking... no compassion, no honor, no nothing !! Sort of like the many criminals we have here in the jails of the US....!!
BigLou, to be fair, we try to hit them when they are not looking as well. AND we do a pretty good job.
If they are able to get to us, then it is normally a suicide mission. We normally give medals to people that give their lives fighting for "our side", so I also give them respect...and support our people blowing them away and pissing on their corpses.
@MOSinEUR everytime i see your comment i feel ashamed for your poor soul. no wonder you are a big time hater and i bet it spreaded all over like cancer. sometimes i felt you even have no idea what you are saying. its like a child who can spell and write gramatically correct sentences.anything you say is pure crap, unvalid and meaningless. you aint blind but surely you just see one side and you already proved that you dont wanna expand your knowledge. this is hilarious that you already cliamed you american's know whats right or wrong ( i bet you dont represent most of the american cause they will argue). that means you disclosed the door for other people's opinion and then you think you american's ( i believe its just you) dont discriminate anyone. damn do you understand how off balance you are??
@dale
"The Christian abuses were a thousand years ago. The Muslim abuses are today."
what about all the war where american are reading? killing millions of people? dont you think christians are doing the same thing and oh ya its been little more than 700 years than muslim fanatics.
May the souls of the Faithful, Departed Rest in Peace. May God give the Strength and Courage to the families and near and dear ones of the Deceased To Bear with this Huge Loss. GOD BLESS THE USA.

Perhaps white Americans should remember something of the Crusades where many were slaughtered. In today American society myself and all Mexicans are discriminated on and nobody cares.
Lumis, you are "discriminated on"? Really? It seems that you at least have access to a computer, so things must not be THAT bad?
Anyway, since is seems that you have the ability to write in English, I suggest you read up on the Crusades as a response to Moslem expansion and conquest. Read up on the Moslem invasion of Europe. Not the baby boom invasion, but the one where the Turks were about to conquer Austria.
lumis...
Discrimination can be done something about in this country, it's not like the old days... lucky for both you and me we can see this through. An example of a society that brakes down without the rule of law, chaos and it's education system in disarray is Mexico itself with it's narco mentality as true hero's of the people in that country!! ....I wouldn't want to live there !!
war are kindna profitable when you can invest in defense stock...I should know..my boeing stock & lockheed martin stock are doing very well for me. as well as my Halaburton stock..
I bet the Obama Administration and DOJ will call this "work place violence" the same way they have done at Ft Hood. Instead of a terrorist act.
Osama Bin Laden is dead so why are we still in Afghanistan. Our supposed mission in 2001 was to go after Bin Laden into Afghanistan and to capture/kill him. Mission has been accomplished so why are we still there? Let's start bringing each and every one of our troops home now! Let the Karzai family hire their own protection with the money that they have stolen from the people of Afghanistan which the USA had supplied them for programs. No wonder the Taliban can't stand us over there.
kacz, what do people like you hate the Afghans so much that you just want to leave and let the fanatics come back to power?
Fanatics that throw acid in little girls faces for going to school? Fanatics that would stone a widow to death because she was outside her home begging for food without a male family member (they were all dead and she should have stayed at home and starved to death). Fanatics that ban school, music and even smiling.
I agree that Karzai is a POS, but why would you want the Taliban to come back into power? Really, why do you hate the Afghans so much?
MOSinEUR ... The average Afghani people we are trying to help over there, do not want to protect that little girl going to school, they do not want to prevent the Fanatics from stoning a widow or a 14 year old rape victim to death. They want someone else to do it for them, and to pay their way. The Afghan Government clearly doesn't want the US there either, so it is past time our people leave. It is also past time the US Government stops the financial hemorrhage to support Karazai's regime and family too. All good things come to an end eventually, and the end of so many of our people being killed by those folks is long past due.
Wheres the santa OUTFIT!
Time4aPurge --- When Americans kill its always GOOD but when someone else kills he becomes a terrorist? NICE THINKING. Even when you wiped out the NATIVES it was a GOOD DEED?
I am glad you mentioned NATIVE AMERICANS, because as far as I know through reading of history, they were the only people who did not WAR on each other for religious reasons. Maybe we should step back and take a note or two from them. If you kill my brother I will Kill you . Not for what you believe in. The GREAT FATHER is for all of us!!!! Mother Earth is who we all come from. Now is that so F#CKING HARD!!!!!!!!
