'King of the farm': Sheep-herding rabbit gains fame

A rabbit that rounds up sheep on a small farm in northern Sweden is rapidly gaining a following on the Internet, with more than 650,00 views in the past week on YouTube.

Even the owners are a little perplexed by the herding skills of the self-taught bunny, which may have learned its techniques by watching its border collie friends.

"He learnt these skills himself, we had nothing to do with it," Greta Vigren, the rabbit's owner told The Local, an English language website based in Sweden.

"He surely has seen the dogs doing it before, but really, Champis thinks he is the king of the farm, and that he owns the sheep."

The video, "Champis - the herding rabbit" in English, was filmed at the farm by a friend of the owners, Dan Westman, a sheepdog breeder who also writes a blog.

Westman has no idea why the video of the rabbit is so popular. "Maybe you can tell me why?" he asked The Local.

Looks like it's more of a case that the sheep are such wimps that even a rabbit can herd them.

Watch the video closely. Looks more to me like the sheep are following the guy with the bucket, which usually contains feed and that's why the sheep are following him. As far as the rabbit is concerned, rabbits like to chase things like that. So, the guy with the bucket leads and the sheep follow and the rabbit chases. No great unusual feat. How easily fooled some people are like those who voted for obama...and will do so again.

C'mon, lighten up Lady, it's what the ladies would call a "Cute" story so let it be that. We have enough terrible things to read today, enjoy a respite for a change.

What a miserable person you must be, ladykroft. The guy with the bucket was in about 3 scenes and in one of those you could see the bucket was empty. The sheep were not always following the man. Most likely the sheep are afraid of the cute bunny, so they instinctively run. And the music is great.

ladykroft would probably run over a bunny for fun.

    Dork

The guy with the bucket is not always in the picture. The rabbit goes head on to a couple of the sheep. Watch the video!

Hey Buck, take your song and dance routine elsewhere, let a good story rest here a bit.

That was rather cute, and you can clearly see they just don't follow the bucket.

Wow that was so cute! Ladykroft must have missed the part where the bunny chased down the stray or when he went face to face with the sheep. Accually I think she needs to watched the whole thing again "carefully". And buck; give the politics a rest. Some stuff doesn't have an agenda; really. Sometimes things are what they are and we should enjoy them without contaminating them with cynicism. Besides that, it's nice to see someone who really enjoys thier job; and is good at it too! LOVE THE BUNNY! LOL!

      Awe. Go Champis!

Rabbits are smarter than most people know- 'cause they run like moths fly. My flemish hare used to knock on the back door every morning for a pet on her head.

Shame on you ladykroft for posting political comments here. Bad manners at best. :P

Really..? You read a cute little story about a rabbit and some sheep half-way around the world and you decided to rain on it with your political delusions?

You must be on the wrong site... go where the mean people are... It seems that the majority of us here just want to enjoy life and the little things that can make someone smile.. you seem to have lost that in your ife, but if you find it come on back.

No, she is a republican or teabagger so that explains her tune. Cannot have any fun and the first words out of her mouth are no. I pity her spouse.

Everyone on the farm just wants something to do. Otherwise you end up on the farmers plate.
