As you know full well, no one can prove an absence. It is impossible to prove, for example, that one is not an angel, sent by God to do his bidding, along with a magically created background of people who remember you from childhood to the present--as God simply created that. Similarly, one cannot prove that the NY Times in its history has never printed something intentionally false--one could only prove individual occasions where they did.

In fact, the NYT--as it has been in existence for a very long time and has cooperated with the government in many cases--probably has intentionally, and at the behest of the city, state, or federal government chosen not to print something that the reporters and editors knew was true but had been asked not to print so as to keep service personnel or other individuals from harm. Such stories are usually printed later, after such people would no longer be endangered by the information.

However, there is a distinction between withholding information and printing innocuous stories in its place, and intentionally printing what is repeatedly shown to be a falsehood. While FOX News is very, very good about covering up what they are doing--the process they use is so consistent that one can trace it. Bloggers--who cannot be linked to FOX because they are hired freelance, though it makes no sense that they were not hired by FOX or the RNC or other organization since FOX picks up the story so quickly--invent information and post it on the web. The FOX entertainment shows pick up the story and gossip about it--and others begin to gossip about it. Then, FOX news very accurately and truthfully reports that there is a story that many people are talking about and they summarize the lies from the bloggers.

A real news organization will not report information from bloggers without trying to doublecheck the information--when they cannot get confirmation, they either do not print/report or they print/report with a lot of caveats. They are required to do this if they are broadcast news. They are also required to provide a correction if the news is proved to be false. They fire people (as they did with Dan Rather) when they do not follow the process and are caught at it--as well they should.

Now, MSNBC does in fact fail to triangulate sources as they should--they also fail to correct when they are proven false. We can look at the silly stories about the girl who died, theoretically due to kissing her boyfriend who had just eaten a peanut-butter cracker. The girl may have died after kissing her boyfriend, but the cause was her asthma and the fact that she'd just smoked marijuana (something that her parents probably did not want known, as it might have voided any insurance claims). I am fairly sure that MSNBC printed the story before checking with a specialist on peanut butter allergies (who would have cast doubt on the claim) and that they never bothered fixing the original story after the death report was released.

Most other news sources, however, are a lot more responsible. MSNBC, which is sloppy in its work, is a lot different from FOX--which is not sloppy, but craven. Even the Republican party has repeatedly slipped up and called FOX its own news organization, and FOX has also slipped up and said it--and you can go find this out if you want to.

But, the main point here is that someone is paying people to get into blogs and repeat the same nonsense--your insistence that other people prove things when you do not have to, and Roy Wilson's continuous misinformation--and it is fairly clearly a conservative organization. That it is so neatly dovetailed with FOX efforts allows one to know that there is coordination--is FOX doing it? Is the RNC doing it? Is some other individual paying for it? Who knows?

That said, does anyone else find it somewhat disturbing that these employees were "outted" by the newspaper's own fact finding committee? "The faux guarding the hen house" flew to mind. I heard 3 different Fox loyalists say the EXACT same thing in response to a question I asked about Obama, on the same day and in entirely different situations and locations. . .all separate from one another. That just doesn't happen well, at least, it doesn't happen when you have 3 individuals with 3 different skill sets in the areas of thought processing and vocabulary. Proof positive to me, at least, that Fox is a propaganda machine of epic proportions. That their viewers are confused and misguided should come as no surprise.
