Suicide bomber targets Iraq police academy

Police say a suicide bomber has killed 16 people and wounded 26 in a crowd of police recruits who were leaving their academy in eastern Baghdad.

It is the latest strike on Iraqi security officials who are often targeted by insurgents seeking to underscore how vulnerable the country remains.

Iraqi police said the bomber detonated his car Sunday outside the fortified national Police Academy compound when the crowd of recruits came out and began walking down the street.

Officials at three nearby hospitals confirmed the casualties, although there were conflicting reports about the exact death toll.

"I can see body parts scattered on the ground and boots and berets covered with blood. Many cars were set ablaze," a policeman working at the academy told Reuters.

The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report

Sadly, they missed the security class that dealt with congregating off-site.

By the way, " How do you like me now? "

No Zionist Crusaders to blow up so I guess they had to kill some fellow countrymen instead.. Might have been Iran's handiwork trying to keep Iraq unstable as they are sadistic enough for this.. All they are doing is creating more hate for their murderous jihad and when that countries people get good and pissed off these animals will get purged in a bloodbath.. This is why these leaders over there are so ruthless when it comes to running their countries.. Lets hope that we leave them to sort it out this time.. Sure is funny that over here we can coexist with hundreds of different cultures and religions but they can't seem to deal with the few that they have inside their borders.. Peace loving Islam...

From 1991 to 2010, if a bomb exploded it became a WMD and it was our problem!

Now after reconstruction, training the police and military and bringing in democracy, it is bombing of police academy!

Wait for the day when it will be police head quarters and military head quarters!

We made a real difference in our country, Britain and many European nations (PIIGS) for now. After Iran business PIIGS will longer!

Since 2003, future traders, rating agencies, Wall Street and oil companies and their lobbyists transferred, five trillion dollars from oil importing countries to oil exporting nations.

Oh, sorry! Oil prices only jumped from $30 to $145.00

Iraq wars director and producer of dramas: Saudi Arabia and Israel starting point!

Now oil prices are coming down. So Iran is the culprit!

Real difference in Iraq will be with sectarian passionate and holy wars between Shias, Sunnis and Kurds with surrounding players jumping in from different directions!

          Again all due to: Iran!!!!

Directors and producers: Again Israel starting and then Saudi Arabia.

This is exactly why we should not get involved in Syria as this nonsense will never end. Iraq.Libya,Pakistan,Yemen,Egypt,Somalia,Afghanistan and Syria all broken muslim states experiencing Islamic civil war to some degree based on Islamic sectarian rivalry. Being in the middle of any conflicts just enables the muslims to take their crosshairs off of each other and to target the American!..........Reminds me of a scene in the movie Saving Private Ryan as they were torching a Nazi bunker on d-day "don't shoot let them burn" just saying better to not get involved in Islamic civil wars.

NOt that you do not have a point about what is going on in Iraq right now but Bush did not go into Iraq to try and stop Hussein from killing his citizens. It was an unintended, or maybe even expected, side effect yes but that was not the goal of the mission.

What the real goal was is debatable. Some will say to find WMD's and other wills say to get at their oil, and yet another segment will say it was revenge for the Gulf war. Whatever the reason is Syria is in no way comparable to that situation, neither are any of the other Arab nations that have recently undergone political shifts.

I would rather see a dictator deposed if they are actively attacking their own civilians then steping down peacefully and allowing the country to choose their future. People keep saying we have to leave the Middle East to themselves. We cannot do that if we keep allowing the dictators we placed into power to rule like they have been ruling.

We cannot force out political views into the world, but we can give the people's of the world an example that they can follow if they so choose. These dictators are refusing to change with the times. They have been in power for far too long and it is their time to go. Problem is that most Arab nations do not have elections and so how to you get rid of a politician that you no longer want running your country?

Assassination, forceful ejection, and other violent methods are the only way to make them relinquish their power or force their hands in such a way that they lose the support of neighboring rulers and their citizens.

Even if it results in a more Islamist Middle East that is the decision of the majority who live there and we have to accept it; that is the true meaning of staying out of the Middle East, letting them choose their future no matter the consequence to us.

That said if we keep persecuting Muslims the way we have in this country of course they will want to kill us. Rage and anger is a two way street. You send traffic at them they send it back to us. This road is not going to close down over night but we still have to offer them an olive branch and start the process and ideologies have to change.

It is one thing that the Muslim haters and the American haters both have always had in common; they are mentally incapable of forgiving the other side for their actions or have never even tried.

Geowil, now that we have replaced these terrible Dictators with terrible Islamist,I'm not sure i sleep any better at night. These terrible Dictators are the only thing that kept these Islamist from Killing everyone that doesn't think like them. They are already killing all the Christians in Egypt and all the Sunnis in Iraq. If you think for one moment that you are safer now than you were when these terrible Dictators, who we could control, were in control, think again. It's only a matter of time before these Islamist who Obama put in charge, get their hands on Nuclear weapons and then all hell is going to start. I guess it;s all in the master plan though and not much we can really do about it.

As far as the Olive branch thing, that hasn't worked out to well for Obama ,with regards to Iran, North Korea or Russia.Well I guess if that doesn't work out for you ,you could always convert to Islam.

When are we going to send Sister Sarah and her helicopter gunship over there to take out Al Quaida and the Taliban. She takes out wolves from the air with her blazing AK47-turns them into instant wolfburgers, saves prep time. She will have good backup using Christine O'Donnell, the flying witch from Delaware. using her well armed, rocket powered, flying broomstick to guard her flanks and Rick Sanitarium's special forces, his backers, the catholic pedophile rapist priests, to attack from the rear.

With these right wing radical cracked teanuts on the offensive we can withdraw our troops immediately. If they want, they can use the old geezer Ron (Puke) Paul to preach liberty to his muslim lovers. He claims that they are really good guys that we made bad.

After the war is over, they can send all of their prisoners to work in Nut Gingerheads moon colony. They can be educated by lyin Willardo, the Mexican Mormon Moron on how to evade taxes by keeping their money in moon banks.

You are right about my comment. Snookies reply couldn't handle the truth. So he makes up stories about Obama siding with muslims. Sounds like he listens to Fox Lies and Eric Bowleggs and David Asswipes.

Ron Paul claimed many times in the debates that the muslims in Iran and in Guantanamo are really good guys that we made bad. He has no clue of what is going on in the world. That is why he wants to be an isolationist.

Huckster: Your comment was totally stupid. If Al Quaida and Iran overrun Iraq, it sprerads to the adjoining arab countries.

This is not the first time police recruits have been targeted in this fashion. If they can't secure a police academy, they have no hope of securing the entire country. If they can't secure the country, expect Iran to exert more influence in Iraq with the help of Muqtada al Sadr. Shia against Sunni, Sunni against Shia. Forget about Iraqi brotherhood, Arab brotherhood, or Muslim brotherhood. These two factions just want to kill each other off.

The Iranian regime seems to be stepping up their terrorist attacks. Iraq today, Pakistan yesterday, Cambodia, Republic of Georgia, India, Syria last week .... Who is next? Perhaps, they are trying to draw attention away from there nuclear weapons program, and please don't tell me Iran is only wants nuclear power for 'peaceful' purposes. They have no plans to construct a nuclear power plant, haven't bought/traded for any machines to operate a nuclear power plant, and the bottomline is they don't need a nuclear power plant. Instead, they have built a plant deep underground in a mountain to enrich weapon quality Uranium faster. They have bought/traded for machines/centrifuges to make the weapon quality Uranium. They have bought ballistic missiles(supposedly without nuclear warheads) from the Ukraine on the black market. Why does Iran need nuclear weapons? Ask yourself that question! .... Iran for decades has used and exported vehicle/suicide/roadside bombs to create chaos, confusion, death, and destruction. The Iranian regimes goals are not vague. They have declared 'Jihad' on all who do not conform to the way they believe in the Muslim faith. Jihad is just one simple word for an official declaration of war, and they have stated it several times. The zealots in Iran want to control the entire middle east. They are trying to build an empire, Israel, and the USA stand in the way. The Arab League of Nations is a joke, and for that matter, so is the UN, so is our president Bummer Obama. ....... Police academy? Young men in Iraq that want try, someday, to keep the peace slaughtered? I think Iran's Jihad is working. .... Solution? Well, I wish I had the USS. Missouri in my back pocket. Sorry, I have no answers. The terrorist cells that Iran operates are too deeply entrenched to be attacked. The cells are too complex to be infiltrated. Diplomacy? Sure, you go ahead, walk into the snake pit,and try to 'talk' with snakes. ... My hope is that the Iranian regime will make a mistake, a big one. They are very close to doing that.

Toasty where are you getting that from? I've seen you post that on a few different threads.

I know Ron Paul voted against the civil rights act because he thought that it would have a long term effect that would be divisive and detrimental to society, and that it would not achieve it's goal as written of equality. Years later, it could be argued that he jhad some valid points.

But what makes you think Ron Paul is against the first ammendment? Ron Paul's a staunch supporter of all aspects of The Constitution.

                            #13.4 - Sun Feb 19, 2012 6:33 PM EST

And no, he didn't vote against the Civil Rights Act, because he wasn't in congress back in the 1960s.

And I'm sorry, Paul's voting record on constitutional issues is atrocious. The man seems to have a particular problem with the First Amendment. Especially the Establishment Clause.

He voted against the 40th anniversary of it, and he is on record as saying he would have voted against it. I stand corrected.

As far as Ron Paul EVER voting or saying anything that goes against The Constitution,

I ask you again, where are you getting that from?

                                #13.6 - Sun Feb 19, 2012 6:53 PM EST

Dude, I already told you, his voting record. Ever hear of the We The People act of 2009? How about H.J.Res. 78 from 2008? House Amendment 278 of 2006? If you want more, I can continue. The man has a serious problem with the First Amendment.

                                  #13.7 - Sun Feb 19, 2012 8:17 PM EST

Toasty, you are being a bit deceptive there. What you are talking about is Ron Paul having a problem with the way THE COURTS HAVE INTERPETED THE FIRST AMMENDMENT.

Not with the first ammendment itself.

There's a world of difference. Ron Paul believes in the Constitution as a strict limitation on what the Federal govt can and cannot do.

For instance, the we the people act was a bill to limit how loosely the SCOTUS could interpet The Constitution.

A key provision was "Prohibits the Supreme Court and the federal courts from issuing any ruling that appropriates or expends money, imposes taxes, or otherwise interferes with the legislative functions or administrative discretion of the states."

This was a bill to PROTECT The Constitution from liberl "living document" type of judicial interpetation. Hardly an attack on the first ammendment as you describe.

                                  Let's look at HJ Res78.

                                  "

`Section 1. Nothing in this Constitution shall prohibit Congress and the States from imposing content-neutral regulations and restrictions on the expenditure of funds for political activity by any corporation, limited liability company, or other corporate entity, including but not limited to contributions in support of, or in opposition to, a candidate for public office.

`Section 2. Nothing contained in this Article shall be construed to abridge the freedom of the press.'.
So if this had been passed, the Citizens United Ruling COULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED!!!!
Toasty, are you now in favor of the Citizens United ruling? Just because Obama now loves superpacs, you know it doesn't mean that you have to.
You can be your own man, and still hate superpacs and citizens united, even though Obama is busy funneling loot to his campaign through them. And saying he wants to lower corporate taxes for the corporations that fund them. Lols.
House Ammendment 278 of 2006 - Ammendment to what? Are you talking about the (Hosstetler or something) ammendment to allow cities and towns to keep the ten commandments up? Or the bill to prevent the US from entering into any treaties with the UN that would violate The Constitution? I can't tell what you mean here, honestly.

Answer is neither one as they are all phony and creepy just as our religions are. All of the middle east is a hole of uncivilized insanity. They were far better off during the colonial times when they had masters such as the French and the English. They were able to control these blood thirsty from killing each other or themselves. we should either bomb them or leave them alone. i would vote to leave them alone. every dictator that we help get elected over there is just another thief offering no hope to the people, just helping himself to the riches. we are not the world police and should have never tried to be. these people have different cultures and beliefs than most of us have. they have been raised where war and murder was honorable things like this we will never be able to understand. afganistan is already coming unraveled and we lost alot of lives and over a trillion dollars and even tried to help them rebuild. they hate us and want us out of their country. we need to worry about our soil. our childrens education, our infrastructure, our jobs, our wealth as a nation and pay off the national debt (whatever that is). someone touches us, bombs our buildings, kills our people NUKEM.

If the terrorists keep going at this rate there won't be anyone left to blow up but themselves in their own country.

Sadam Hussein kept these ragheads inline....now that he's gone, it's a free for all killing spree. Congrats to the US government for de-stablizing Iraq and allowing terrorists to take over. Our government has been screwing up ever since Vietnam....when is the US government ever going to learn to stay out of other countries business and take care of the US since it's going down the tubes?

We are policing the world with a 16 trillion dollar national debt and giving billions to other countries in the name of foreign aid. What other country in the world has ever gave foreign aid to the US? Our country is headed for a disaster if Obama gets re-elected....the national debt has went from 12 trillion to 16 trillion in his first 3 years as President. Ron Paul is the only one who can get this country back on it's feet and reduce the national debt.
