A man suspected of mugging U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer in the Caribbean country of Saint Kitts and Nevis earlier this month has been arrested, the Wall Street Journal has reported.
Vedel Browne, 28, turned himself in over the weekend.
He is believed to have been masked and wielding a machete when he stole $1,200 from Breyer, his wife and guests at their home.
Browne, a painter and gardener, was charged with the robbery, which took place on the island of Nevis, where Breyer and his wife have a home. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison.
Justice Breyer was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Bill Clinton in 1994.

They didn't say how they knew it was him ....
Glad he got caught ....
"Vedel Browne, 28, turned himself in over the weekend." I would presume that this is how they knew it was him. This was a very week article, not sure why they even posted it.
It took a week for him to turn himself in. That is why they posted it.
Thiis story of the crime, was played down by the Left Wing Media as it is a total dishonor that a USSC justice owns propery in another NaTION and lives there. He must love this Nations PAYCHECKS but can't stand the population in general, Very UNAMERICAN, but then again he does not drive an AMRICAN Car either.
You just can't afford to bite the hand that feeds you. The Caribbean is dependent upon the tourism industry, so why terrorize the tourists who come there? Guilt made him turn himself in.
im with greg, it sucks that it is news too.
Gregory has the audacity to call Breyer unAmerican after just writing a post about what he thinks American veterans deserve: "More perks then the general public is an OUTRAGE."
Any American employer that wouldn't give a veteran a better than equal chance for a job, ought to be ashamed.
Vedel is a veteran?
Why should any person be given an unequal opportunity at a job? Is this NOT THE nation of equality? I love Vetrans, but to be frank, More perks then the general public is an OUTRAGE. Take on the job as servic in teh us Military as an honor not a benifit.
Greg, what have you done that deserves the same respect and rewards that our veterans get? Based on your post, I suspect absolutely nothing. For instance, my Dad is a retired lifer Marine who served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. You most probably don't deserve to be in the same room with men like that. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.
I wonder what made him turn himself in? I guess he figured he was going to be caught, and turned himself in hoping for leniency. I think they got lucky. I wonder if they conned him into? You know, put a news report out that they have a lead, and would soon make an arrest. And the dingbat turns himself in. If thats the case, he will never live it down. LOL
Freedom,
Nevis is a tiny island. We have been there several times.. it is separated from its sister island St Kitts or more correctly St Christopher by an Atlantic channel. It is a very rough trip. The only other way to get off the island is by small plane...Simply put, there is nowhere to go if the police are after you. Mr. Browne would have been caught sooner rather than later and knew it. My hope is the beautiful people of Nevis and St Kitts get a grip on this growing crime problem. They are magnificent islands and ones we have enjoyed IMMENSELY. A big hello to the Hanley family (George was our first tour guide in Nevis) and The Ebanks family (Cayman Islands)...We love your home and wish you good health and prosperity for years to come...Thank You for all the good times. God Bless!!

Maybe the kind justice should hire him as a gardner and watchman...He can be paid with whatever he can steal..Rasss!
No place to run where everyone knows everyone else and where all are probably related anyway...
What is a setting US SC Justice doing living in another NATION, should be the headlines. Its hard to even say the US SC anymore. TERMS as described in the US Constitution, LIFE, which means we should only have 9 Living USSC justices, yet they are now allowed to RETIRE for political reasons. The seats should remain vacent until the death of that retired justice. When did the corrupt Lawyers in Congress, Destroy the USSC? I must have missed it. THe founding fathers wanted life terms to keep POLITICS out of it, and put a bit of chance into it. This nation has LOST is way, while the corrupt lawyers lead us down the path of destruction. You can tell what Byner really thinks of the USA, he is getting OUT OF HERE, and living in St Kitts . Amazing.
all goverment employes should be charged with TREASON then excuted. then we can elect an honest goverment and get rid of our curent police state.
HEY !! He had to turn himself in-- he drank, & smoked up everthing. Now he needs free room & board.
Not to say the bus driver was right in any way, he wasn't. But, as the bus goes to go around the cyclist, the cyclist challanged the bus driver by swerving out again. What a Dick.
Pretty ironic that an anti-self defense judge who voted against Heller and McDonald would be attacked.
I fail to understand why a USSC justice can't live anywhere he pleases? As long as he shows up for work, why should anyone care? - except to make pointless noise, of course.
Yes indeed Wyngs...What does where someone has a home matter?? This was a horrible home invasion. We should be happy nobody was killed.
Doug wants to execute all government employees to get rid of the police state? Thank you, no. The police state is a hell of a lot safer then his world. (Can't believe the inane, thoughtless remarks made over nothing - in this case a guy turning himself over to the cops. But it seems to be the norm these days).
Greg. Supreme justices are appointed for life to keep politics out of it. That in no way means they can't leave the position when they've had enough of it. Do you wish to force some senile old dude of 106 years to stay on the job? When they quit, it's usually age related, and then the position is open once again. What is the logic behind not filling the position until the senile old guy dies? Sheesh. Clearly, the Constitution intends that they MAY have the position for life - not that they are sentenced to it till they die.
The writer here who says he doesn't think veterans should have special privileges - it's "an OUTRAGE" he says - demonstrates yet another sign of a nation in mental decline concomitant with moral and other decadence. Think about it. One who has seen combat - perhaps killed and certainly put his life in mortal danger - for the nation, deserves not only "special treatment," but a guarantee from those for whom he risked his life that he will never again have to worry about his life. Combat veterans deserve lifetime support, pension, from their nation; and to do otherwise not only speaks probitively and convincingly of moral decay, but guarantees it. No part, no factor, in one's own health and safety - which, in turn, is most dependent upon the individual's ability to survive - so determines that survival strength as does attitude and life view. That's as true of nation as it is individual citizen of that nation, and when a nation has stooped to attitudes like those the writer to whom I refer, the proverbial handwriting is on the wall - for both.
Behavior is best - even solely - determined by reward and punishment. Small reward for a thing like risking life merely guarantees that few will do so. Few enough willing to take or give life for a nation must signal the nation's inevitable decline and fall.
One should, also, pay more attention to his own statements. They betray for him things he will one day - soon, in this instance - regret.
To the ones thining this justice is living in another country. ever hear of a vacation or owning a vacation home or how about time shares. You know those who can afford such things often do.
Is there anybody out there that believes that if it were you or i that got mugged the case would have been solved so quickly if at all?
Everyone can be sure that the United States had the FBI, Secret Service, DEA, and CIA looking for Vedel Browne and convince him to give himself up. Not only is Vedel Browne going away for 10 years but this guy will never be seen or heard of again. Everyone can count on it.
Ernie,
The Vedel Browns of this world NEED to be caught and stopprd by someone. Who cares who gets him? He would victimize anyone with money. Do you think only Americans with money own homes in Nevis?
There are wealthy locals and those from other nations. Get real. Nobody wants home invasions. That is just awful. TG nobody was killed AND this THUG is captured.
