Senator John McCain calls for an end to "the slaughter of innocent lives" in Syria through a US-led international effort to protect the population while launching airstrikes on Assad forces.
Arizona Sen. John McCain called for American-led airstrikes on President Bashar Assad's forces in Syria. McCain says the goal of the U.S.-led air strikes should be to establish and defend safe havens for delivering humanitarian and military aid in Syria.
"Providing military assistance to the Free Syrian Army and other opposition groups is necessary, but at this late hour, that alone will not be sufficient to stop the slaughter and save innocent lives," McCain said. "The only realistic way to do so is with foreign air power."
McCain called for the airstrikes in a Senate floor speech on Monday afternoon.
The speech emphasized that "the United States should lead an international effort to protect key population centers in Syria, especially in the north, through airstrikes on Assad's forces."
Syrians have right to defend themselves, Saudi Arabia's foreign minister says
"To be clear: This will require the United States to suppress enemy air defenses in at least part of the country," McCain said.
The Arizona senator added that the mass atrocities that NATO intervened in Libya to prevent in Benghazi are now a reality in Homs. "Indeed, Syria today is the scene of some of the worst state-sponsored violence since Milosevic’s war crimes in the Balkans, or Russia’s annihilation of the Chechen city of Grozny," he said.
McCain commended the Obama administration's efforts in orchestrating international sanctions against the Assad regime, but added that the policy of diplomacy is increasingly disconnected from the dire conditions on the ground in Syria.
"In the face of this new reality, the Administration’s approach to Syria is starting to look more like a hope than a strategy," he said. "So, too, does their continued insistence that Assad’s fall is ‘inevitable.’"

The conflict in Syria started last March with protests calling for the ouster of authoritarian President Assad in some of the country's impoverished hinterlands.
The protests spread as the government waged a bloody crackdown on dissent, and many in the opposition have taken up arms to defend themselves and attack government troops. The U.N. says more than 7,500 people have been killed in the uprising.
McCain explained that the United States also has a clear national security interest in stopping the violence in Syria and forcing Assad to leave power. The current regime supported Palestinian terrorist groups and funneled arms to Hezbollah in Lebanon, he said, adding that it also remains a committed enemy of Israel.
“The ultimate goal of airstrikes should be to establish and defend safe havens in Syria, especially in the north, in which opposition forces can organize and plan their political and military activities against Assad," McCain said.
Since Russia and China vetoed a U.N. Security Council resolution on Syria, a concerted course of action similar to the one in Libya is not likely, but McCain said a joint military mandate is still feasible. He gave the example of NATO's 1999 intervention in Kosovo, which took place without a formal authorization from the U.N.
"The Syrian people deserve to succeed, and shame on us if we fail to help them,” the senator concluded.

The Eisenhower Research Project estimates that the wars since 9/11 have cost the US taxpayer almost $4 TRILLION (which has yet to be paid). Lets try paying that off before we start another war in the middle east.
From my understanding and reading, it's almost impossible to bomb Syria because it's so populous. You're bound to hit innocent civilians.
If McCain won and was president..we be in the middle of WW3 by now. He's a moron.
I say we call for airstrikes on McCain. What an idiot.
Why does McCain want to embroil us in every civil war in the Arab world? We need to STAY OUT for once.
Another reason I would never have voted for this continually irrelevant old fool. Yeah John, let's get head over heels involved in another country's civil war. Go back to Arizona, sit on your porch and scream at the neighbor's kids to stay off of your lawn. It's time to let the young 'uns run the country.
EVERY time there is a potential conflict he wants war. He is insane.
Why? Despotic regimes throughout the world have decimated their populations and the US and west have done nothing to intervene (think Rwanda, Cambodia, Uganda etc etc) so why with Syria? Could it be related to Israel once more or is the GOP intent on involving the US into yet another regional conflict in the middle east? Or perhaps the powerful Israeli lobby see this as a way to establish a more moderate regime change in Syria. There has to be a lot of behind the scenes lobbying for these types of actions. We are on the cusp of a major conflict in the middle east and Israel is doing all it can to involve the US. Once attacking Syria starts, bombing Iran is not far behind. We should stay out of this, provide supplies and logistics to Israel but refrain from any action. Those actions must be taken by Arab states.
No! No! No! If they need help let the Muslim nations around them help out! We stay out of it period!!
That's about 1 trillion less than the increased Obama debt over the past three years - sounds like a bargain.
Why was it OK for Obama to have air strikes and Missiles fired on Libya? That was a good thing and the Humanitarian thing to do wasn't it?? What is different with Syria? Isn't Assad killing civilians? Isn't Assad attacking his own citizens?
It is past time for senator McCain to retire. He needs to resign today, go home, fire up his grill and do his favorite past time; BBQ, and spend his wife's money. This he can do in any one of his 8 homes. Even his old lapdog, Joey Lieberman, has strayed away.
The strategy in Libya worked well and was relatively inexpensive. That said, Russia and China might not tolerate the same approach in Syria.
I agree there is an humanitarian need there. I think Hillary made it clear that the rebels "would be armed somehow". My guess is that we are working from that angle already.
What is happening in Syria is horrible, but this senile man should not be listened to. Who is the main ally to Syria? Iran and Russia. If the US attacks Syria, does McCain not understand that Hezbollah in Lebanon will most likely attack Israel and there is the potential that Iran would also use the opportunity to launch a preemptive strike on Israel along with the US bases in Bahrain and US ships in the area. If the US responds by attacking Iran, then what is the possibility that Russia will be dragged into the fight on the Iranian and Syrian side? But yes we should bomb Syria and potentially start World War III.
Americans have fought and died for freedom throughout out history. Let the Syrians do the same. If the Iranians, Afghans or any other muslim country truly want freedom from dictators and mullahs, let them unite and fight. US stay out ot it!!! Sen McCain, from one retired combat veteran to another... find yourself a nice porch swing and take a nap!!!
Here is how to contact Senator John McCain. Let him know how you feel!
http://mccain.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Contact.ContactForm
@slodon- Obama did not fire on Libya willy-nilly. He was following the approval of a UN resolution to inforce a no-fly zone on Libya for Humanitarian reasons (along with other UN nations, France, Britian...). The difference now is that Russia and China have voted against supporting any military action against Syria, so unless he goes to Congress to okay the bombing, he is not going to do it.
Of course if he did start military action (either via the UN or Congress), you would be outraged that we were once again getting involved. It sucks not being happy either way doesn't it?
Has John forgotten to take his meds again? This comes from the man who as a pow traded military information for medical treatment. Shameful..
Between Willard, Newton and Ricky spouting off about invading Iran as if they were already POTUS (a snowballs chances in hell of ever becoming!) and John boy on Syria, all of them are just acting like peacocks strutting around pretending to have foreign policy chops. Willard was a failure as a governor of Mass, he and his people met with President Obama about the healthcare law. Santorum ( a mixture of anal lube and fecal matter) has zero chops on foreign policy, hell I served in the Navy, so I will say I have more foreign policy chops than Romney, Newt or Ricky Bobby, none of which ever served in the military, yet they callously want to use the men and women of our armed forces for their holy wars.
America CAN NOT afford a GOPer in the WH.. If we elect one, prepare for WW3 with Iran, China, Russia, North Korea and Syria, maybe Mexico will invade our southern border too? Hell their military already makes incursions in Texas and New Mexico.
I am firmly convinced that McCain, is in the early stages of Alzheimer's; this person is in need of medical attention.
The United States has enough enemies in the neighborhood ... This is a Arab problem .. let the Saudis and the Arab League handle it .. In fact a perfect solution would be the Saudi's & the Israelis doing a joint strike force ... they really need to learn how to play together!
Yet another reason why I am so glad that I voted for President Obama in 2008 and will do so again in 2012.
McCain you stinking warmonger this is why you lost the presidential election fool!
I think McCain is wrong on this one. We should stay out of the quagmire in Syria. We have no national interest in what happens inside Syria. Also, so long as Assad is preoccupied dealing with the rebels in his own country, he has no time or resources to try and start anything with Israel. Let the Syrians stay focused on killing each other. In addition, as bad as Assad may be, we might not like what would replace him any better, and they could in fact be far worse. Assad is for the most part a secularist, allowing Syrians to worship other religions with little interference from the government. These rebel factions are nothing more than Islamic religious sects that want control for themselves. It is unlikely that should one of them gain control they would be as tolerant of other religions and other Islamic sects as Assad has been. Going from Assad to some Islamic republic lead by religious fanatics would definitely not be an improvement.
McCain calls for airstrikes... Now watch the price of oil skyrocket..
Come on people, don't you realize we need another war? Iraq has ended, and those poor souls making the war profits may not continue to make billions! You guys (and gals) just don't have a heart, the billionaires need help in this slow economy.
How the people of Arizona keep electing McCain and that fruitcake governor beats me, must be the heat affecting their brains!
Romney agrees!.....and disagrees with the idea!
"I think McCain is wrong on this one."
JS in SD, I think this sorry old sack of crap is nothing but a war monger. If he wants air strikes so bad, let him pay for them, and let him do the strikes himself. People like him drag us into wars we don't want or need.
John McCain was a pilot. Give him a plane, give him a bomb and let him go bomb Syria.
I'm sure McCain's intentions are good, especially if you feel we (the US) are the world's ethics enforcement arm (read as world cops). Although the US has assumed this role in the past, we should withdraw from the middle east, and other parts of the world, and let these countries work it out on their own.
This doesn't mean the US should become a nation of pacifists, but should continue to invest in a strong military, it's just that they should be used in a defensive posture only. Closing our borders down would be a good start.
Let the UN be the world cops, and any offensive military activities should be via the UN. period. No more USA to the rescue.......it seems to always backfire (unless it's a world war, which I hope we never see again). Let's keep our military strong, but get the hell away from other parts of the world. Focus on our standard of living, not theirs......
Ahhhh, so much for Newsvine's Code of Honor #1 (above and below.....i.e., idiot, fool, moron, nutso,...etc.):
But that is OK as long as the comments are not directed at this Administration.
Really? I hear a bunch of hypocrites barking.
Mainly because everyone here suddenly decides that we don't want to be involved in wars, yet that's ALL everyone wants to do when a baby they care about gets killed. And everyone is so flippant about it! Like, 'yeah, isn't it obvious we don't want to be involved?!'
Not really. Like its not obvious that the real reason no one posting wants to save someone's innocent kid from being killed is really because they don't want to pay an extra $8 a gallon. Oh, everyone is SO moral now! I don't mind not being involved, but STOP LYING about the reason. Really, we care about freedom! LOL. We are so FOS.
Just call it what it is. You and I are fine with kids being killed as long as its our neighbors kid and not ours. And certainly if its some kid in a country with no oil. Well THOSE kids can totally die! I'm not really saying we should get involved. I just hate the moral high horse reasons we say we do. Because next time someone dies that you care about, don't be all pulling your morality on me.
Personally, I have no problem with any means we use against Syria that doesn't risk American lives. And I could probably be convinced on air strikes given what is going on there. And I'm fine with not being involved from the losing soldiers lives perspective. But I'm not running around calling McCain an 'idiot' or being a flippant a-hole every time I see someone innocent dying because they dare protest a butcher like Assad. I see why people want to be involved, even if we shouldn't be.
Ido..that code goes for newsvine posters (name calling and attacking another poster)..I'm sure that moron McCain isn't a newsvine member.
If he is a member..speak up John!
Then I guess this makes you a yes vote, right? Do you also plan to enlist or will you let "other" Americans do your fighting for you?
McCain calls for airstrikes..Now watch the price of oil skyrocket..
There is no oil in Syria, that is why no one really cares. If there was oil, we'd already be there. Now if it were Iran Then the price would go up.
I am a staunch conservative. McCain has lost it. He has no respect in my eyes. He and John Glenn
once were American Heroes, who morphed into a political hack. I love the people of Arizona, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out why they keep hiring this political hack as their representative !!
Dan G, the $5T of additional debt includes the war cost (and the POS economy). Virtually none of that $5T went to new Obama "socialism"--it was all for repairs. Please get a clue. Libya was inexpensive, and Syria could be too, we just need to be prudent with our forces. I'm for helping, not invading. I'm sure Obama and Clinton are working on it.
I just get the sense that this is like McCain "suspending" his 2008 campaign to solve the financial crisis. What a joke. As if no one else has been looking at the problem at all.
This is what McCain says, because that the military industrial complex pays him to say, . . . except when it's the Obama Administration's idea. Then he's bitching about the debt, national sovereignty, etc. What a political tool.
Much though I loath the attacks by the Syrian government against its own people, an US involvement IF any should be along the same lines as our involvement in Libya PERIOD.
The difference is that the mission in Libya had UN Security council approval. Bombing Syria does not.
You LOST the election you warmongerer, go play war with your tin soldiers.
Thankfully we have a President that knows the word restraint.
I love it..
The total hipocracy of the left astonishes me.
McCain is calling for almost the EXACT SAME THING, for the EXACT SAME REASONS that Obama did in Lybia.
McCain is a warmongering fool, and Obama is doing what needed to be done.
Sad, very very sad lefties.
I was against it before I was for it....
Yeah, right. Let's pay off the first two stupid wars before we start something new. We are becoming that neighbor down the street that starts an addition and never finishes it, then starts a carport and never finishes it....
Bring our best and brightest home.
I guess the Senator is trying to make up for those photo ops with Moammar Gadhaffi...
Mr. Bomb bomb bomb Iran has spoken!
boy we dodged a bullet by not electing this lunatic.we would be at war with the world if he had his way.time to head back to your gated community and let your illegal alien help change your pampers
Sorry McCain can't agree with you here. If we bomb ass(hole)ad troops, we are helping al-qaeda backed rebels. Tired of this crap of fighting against the worst of two evils. Let them destroy each other.
Look at how much the Iraqis and the Afghans love us after we intervened. Let China do it instead
saxon: no, having seen the results of Alzheimer's first hand, I would not insult those who have Alzheimer's by implying that John McCain is nearly that sane. John McCain is just a foolish Republican war hawk determined to keep spending money on the military. He understands perfectly well that if we are not involved in a war, there is not a need for a multi-trillion dollar defense budget.
If we stay out of Middle-East civil wars and stop our imperialistic nation building, we can actually cut the military budget so we are not spending more than the next 20 nations of the world, combined. Of course, that would mean less
kick backs, bribes, graft, political contributions for the GOP in the next election.Only a dufus would think the situation between Libya and Syria are the same.
We had NATO and Arab league support in Libya, does the Maverick want to just bomb away unilaterally.
The senile old @!$%#ty pilot doesn't seem to get it, NOBODY CARES WHAT YOU THINK JOHN MCCAIN.
Bad enough, the guy mcain lost to wants to start a war with iran...This pompus ass wants us to go play in syria.....friggin amazing.Maybe BOTH party's wanna be warriors,(one trying ANYTHING to get re-elected,and the other one just trying to be relavent)..need to sit down,STFU with these raghead countries, let them all kill each other, and then maybe, just maybe they can focus on helping over HERE get straightened out....iran may or may not be nuke-capable yet,but lesser qualities of what they supposedly already have can make some nasty, importable, dirty bombs.....we could all have a real @!$%#storm coming our way,and our "leaders" are not preparing to handle it.......any chance of all these jackasses in BOTH parties working together???????...(for THIS country??)..............U.S.Army Disabled Veteran
At some point the old guard needs to adopt a common sense approach to Foriegn Policy..
"Every thing that could be accomplished with a gun ,in the Arab world, has been accomplished."
Get a grip, JW - it's almost suppertime.
Think outside the box -
I am not a conspiracy theorist but the intelligence before 9-11 and all that followed have brought us to this juncture in history, the pain here at home for the middle and lower classes, this was primarily our boys and girls getting blown away. The massive tax evasion of the top tiers along with the unprecedented creation in total numbers of millionaires and billionaires we created during these concocted wars is unequaled in human history; when in modern history have so many profited so much from the blood, sweat and tears of their fellow countrymen? Certainly not in any Democracy framed within a representative republic maybe only remotely analogous is "The Gilded Age"...but look what ensued...reform...yes real reform...they knew more of the dangers of national monopolies than we do today...my oh my.
War could be inevitable now but why? Does even the faltering state of Iran, the Mullahs the whole Theocracy benefit from war? It seems we have been lead to this point all is unfolding by happenstance or is the allure of maintaining power in Iran and making bundles again for the war profiteers in the west just a natural fit. Throw in the real threat of nuclear Iran and make it all seem as a natural consequence of matters beyond our control, how to make it all look seemingly so natural and of course out of our diplomatic control - oh yes out of our control on auto-pilot...well...follow the money as always.
Ready for $10 per gallon of gas? A fall of the dollar and a rise in all that you consume? Shared Sacrifice - a noble idea the frazzled masses cannot contemplate. The tail wagging the dog...think about it.
Boy, within 5 days, two gasbags have showed their worst sides. This is getting exhausting. First Rush and now McCain. NO MORE WARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Syria - a distraction
A side show a brief respite from war talk but I hear the grinding sound of sharpening swords in the background. Syria has nothing that we need, yes mass killings but whom will replace Assad? The Muslim Brotherhood in concert with Hezbollah? Keep our eyes on the ball......
Please do not go to war. We have already spent 720 billion dollars on wars since 9-11. I quite agree with
what Marlen 101917 said above. The more wars we have, the more ememies we will have.
The U.S. should stay out of Syria. Syria is a battle among Terrorist Groups for the Country. What next McCain, do we bomb Russia when complain about the election?? The U.S. can not afford to intervene in every country when activist in those countries start Civil Wars they are unable to win and face annihilation. McCain must be at the beginning of Dementia.
McCain - what a mastermind for stirring up horse-@!$%#. Go away you old fool. You do not and have not served any purpose.
America stay clear of idiots like him! No more wars, especially not where people dislike us so much they want to cut us in pieces. Stay away from that Muslim low life strong hold, otherwise known as the Middle East. If any of their Arab/Muslim neighbors want to change things there, let them do it. Do not use the USA for doing your dirty laundry.
What would today's republican candidates do? Would they follow McCain's agenda? Is anybody asking the hard questions or is "Birth Control" and "Busting Unions" the only platform they stand on?
If this fool,McCain, wishes to get involved, give him a gun,and a uniform, and let him go. We have more than enough problems in this country that need addressing. The U.S.A. first!
HERE WE GO AGAIN "PROTECT CIVILIANS" i.e. take sides and murder the "bad guys".
No Mr. McCain we don't need another war.
Those wondering why President Obama doesn't approach Syria in the same manner we approached Libya should first ask why we didn't do the same democratic nationbuilding in Darfur and the DRC that we also done in Afghanistan and Iraq under Bush.
Hell, for that matter why we also did not approach Rwanda as we did Bosnia under Clinton.
As with everything, foreign policy analysis requires context.
slodon Obama and the West had a UN Security Council mandate to bomb the crap out of Libya. Russia and China vetoed a similar mandate on Syria to avoid losing an ally.
The old Manchurian Candidate is still following the script he was programmed with by his Asian masters. Constantly involving the US in other nations' civil wars is bleeding us dry. He should have learned that lesson in Vietnam.
Obama's abject failure to enforce a no-fly zone over Libya allowed foreign aircraft to continue to bomb and strafe Libyan citizens until the terrorists won. Now McCain wants to kill loyal Syrian citizens the same way. That's intolerable.
Not to worry. Soon the keepers at the old folks' home will realize John isn't there for his evening pablum.
Let us not share in John's dementia and let us understand, this is the doddering fool who picked Palin for a running mate. This doddering fool was the choice of the Republican Party to have the nation's nuclear weaponry at his beck and call.
Take a close look at the current crop of doddering young fools running for the Republican Presidential nominee.
Really? Really, this bunch fits the ABO specifications?
How many different ways can the right-wing crazies find to completely destroy the United States.
Vote G.O.P. Suicide by Republican.
I'd like to drop the Republican party off over Syria, OK they can have a parachute and a couple of cocktails..
Don't be too hard on John McCain - he is doing exactly what he supposed to be doing. The President needs the voices of the 'war hawks' to push the diplomatic dialogue with Assad. The President - and the Secretary of State - can point out that they are under increasing political pressure to take military action. The message to Assad is 'cut a deal' now or suffer the fate of Libya's Qaddafi.
The President needs someone, other than himself, to beat the war drums. Believe it or not, the louder Congress talks war - the more likely a diplomatic solution can be found. That is one way a President (any President) uses Congress to further diplomacy.
Didn't anyone tell him he lost the election? The only thing he should be calling for is a do over on selling his soul to the GOP. He used to be a pretty good guy and then the T party sank their teeth into him. If he had gone ahead with his plan to have leiberman as a running mate he may have won the election. Lmao hahahaaa yea right...
Ha-ha...speaking of that, Jeremy; your side perfected hypocrisy (that's how you spell it).
Derek, you seem to have us all figured out. PLEASE tell us more of what you don't know and are just speculating about.
Hi, my name is Jeremy, and I parrot everything Faux news has indoctrinated into my brain.
Now give me a cracker or I swear I will shoot you.
I agree with Nerm_L above. We've all heard of Good Cop! Bad Cop! While I'm a liberal, I don't believe John McCain is a fool and therefore give him the benefit of the doubt that he's playing Bad Cop! So that Obama can play Good Cop!
moondog99-good suggestion to let the UN do it, but we ARE the UN. The other countries are 2 teamers
Just two practical aspects of the air strike reveal how stupid a position is taken by McCain. First, Syria has one of the most sophisticated anti-aircraft networks in the world. The Russians help design it to stop the Israelis. It includes S-300 surface to air missiles. Second, in an urban conflict without intelligence or spotters on the ground, it will be difficult if not impossible to isolate the government targets.
Given the billions in military sales to our Arab partners, I do no understand why the Arab League can not take this war to Assad. We can handle the logistics; happy to replace all the bullets, planes, tanks etc. that they expend. We can even air ship those for a small additional fee.
I wish someone would put a muzzle on McCain. He's no more than a senile shill for defense contractors and others that profit from wars. You lost, McCain. He's just a Senator that couldn't hold his seat if you were up for reelection this cycle. If McCain farts, Lindsey Graham is there to smell it. I think there's a September, December romance there.
McCain is a moron. His other scheme for your information is to break up Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran and form a new Muslim state for the purpose of exploiting the regions natural resources. I wonder what will be the response when Syria seeing itself defeated uses its arsenal of nerve gas and biological weapon equipped missiles against Israel?
who is in power president Obama or Mccain, who is the boss to say yes or no, and who to blame for the word yes or no
If we started it, the honorable thing to do is to give them a fighting chance. Everything I have read says getting involved without a rebuilding strategy is a bad idea.
As rich as the countries that make up the Arab League are, THEY should be the ones footing the bill for any help by the UN/US. They should also be the first to go in, not US troops.
Crash McCain at it again!
I just dont understand where McCain is coming from here. We are in conflicts still with Afghanistan and Iraq, had a hand in assassinating Qaddafi, ousting Mubarak...an impending conflict with Iran, and he wants to cruise on into Syria eh? Baffling
Guess the GOP Super Pac contributors need more money to support their Candidates, guess just having the Oil contributors raping us is not enough .....
I think the US should drop an airstrike on John McCain. They are killing US troops in Afganistan because of some crappy koran. Pull out the U.S. then nuke the whole region. Kill them all and let GOD sort them out.
These Repuicks condemed Obama for allowing the arabs to take over Egypt than Libya and now that they are taking over Syria or trying to take it over the Repuicks want us to help them take it over WHAT IS WITH YOU Repuicks GO AWAY
We ended up backing the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, we still can't figure out who's in charge of Libya, we had troops in Tanzania, etc. No matter how good our intentions are, I think we should let these Muslim hellholes duke it out among themselves. Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East, and we should help them if needed, but other than that, they are going to hate us no matter what we do. Even though I voted for McCain, it's time for him to retire.
Let us not forget that Senator McCain once urged us to elect Sarah Palin as Vice-President of the United States.
Hello folks, we need to stay out of the middle east. Let the Arab league handle it. We are broke, our allies are broke. How many long, costly protracted wars do we need to get into before we say enough is enough?
We should not allow senile old men to represent our country!
Will somebody just buy McCain the game of Battleship to keep him occupied.
We should have taken four trillion in oil from Iraq to pay it off before we left.
Also, McCain needs to go. He is well past his prime in any type of rational thinking on these issues. We simply cannot afford to go to war in another country that is not attacking us. Let the UN, the Arab Union, and possibly European countries handle this problem. Those people hate us over there for the most part. Why should we go save them?
That would only be 37,735,849,056 barrels of oil at $106/ barrel. Iraq is now up to 3.5 million barrels production per day. That would take them 29 years to pay off.
"And since I`m the damn President do it now"!! :-)
In for a penny, in for a pound. Get Saudi Arabia, the Turks and the Europeans to handle this one in their back yard. And no with the tank busting helicopters and weapons in the right hands Assad is gone.
And yes Iran has to be handled. The only problem is that Obama doesn't want to do anything before November. He just can not realize that playing Chamberlain is not going to help him. The more Assad murders, the more blood on his hands, Mr. Macbeth.
The real test comes when Israel decides that Obama hasn't the balls to take out the Iranian nuclear plants and the price of oil goes above $10 a gallon. Remember the straits are going to be closed the minute the first Israeli jet takes off. No insurance company is going to insure any tanker that has to go through the straits.
The factor that is going to have to be realized is that the war has to be short and decisive. The Europeans have to come in, the Saudis, the Kuwaitis, the Eremites, the Israelis and the U.S. Massive immediate overwhelming bombing and disabling to get the tankers through in a few days or at most two weeks. Then the price of oil will drop and it will be over.
This is too much for Obama to think about and he doesn't have the leadership, charisma or ability to set this in motion.
Obama is dithering and dawdling.
We need to stay out of this for at least 3 more months, so that most of us can go back on Retirement again. Then it will all be your turn to "Deal With".
As far as Libya, that was not too smart supporting the Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadist Group, Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), Overthrowing a Former US Ally Gaddaffi while he still had President Obama's CIA Islamic Jihadist Prisoners from Guantanamo in his prisons, the Islamic Jihadists ending up with 20,000 shoulder launched Anti Aircraft, SA-7, Missiles (to shoot down US and US Ally Commercial Aircraft), the US European Allies losing all that Libyan Oil to the Chinese as sold to them thru Fundamentalist Islamic Iran's Ally Qatar, that UN Resolution number 1973 did NOT state Overthrow and just enforce No Fly Zones to protect Libyan Citizens (both sides), US use of Discretionary Funds, etc..
As stated by SOS Clinton:
Clinton: Too many concerns over arming Syrians
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505263_162-57385653/clinton-too-many-concerns-over-arming-syrians/?tag=mncol;lst;8
Too bad SOS Clinton did not read her own US Department of State Documents pertaining to Libya before the First use of US Military to Overthrow Gaddaffi:
The actual percentages of the Islamic Jihadist Organizations listed above is still considered as "Classified" and left off; the 80% was not considered "Classified" on the Unclassified version of the US Department of State Documents prior to the start of the Libyan "Civil War".
In addition to this situation (more complex than simple "one liners") is that the Russian Federation to support their Ally President Assad, have their Admiral Kuznetsov Aircraft Carrier Battlegroup sitting at their Russian Federation Port of Tartus, Syria. A current Russian Federation Aircraft Carrier Battlegroup carries Nuclear Weapons, just like most USN Aircraft Carrier Strike Groups; unlike the USN Aircraft Carrier Strike Groups the Russian Federation Aircraft Carrier Battlegroups are not decreased in size to a USN Strike Group. With the landbased direct support of the Russian Federation Port of Tartus, Syria this would put any USN Aircraft Carrier Based Actions at a significant disadvantage in the entire Region (if US Ally Turkey does not allow USAF, USMC, USN Air Support).
In reaction to the current events at Syria (not classified, that I know of) US Military Forces are currently deployed to Jordan. US Military pulled out of Iraq, currently at Kuwait are on "Standby". Some of us, US Military Teams here (Afghanistan) are also on "Standby", just like we were during Libya (with other Teams from US AFRICOM ending up going attached to SAD/SOG).
To all those that say that let the UN take care of this, until the US withdraws from the UN, the UN will always use us (US Military) as their UN B!tches.
To all those that say let the Arab League of Nations take care of this, how about researching the original Charter (Primary Goal, still valid and in effect) of the Arab League of Nation as written by Co Founder Amim Al Husseini. Hints: Devout Fundamentalist Islamic Believer, Representative of the "Islamic World" (Forerunner of the Arab League of Nations) as signatory to the 1933 "Islamic World" Alliance to Hitler, Co Founder of the Elite Muslim SS Brigades at Berlin to round up the Jews, Author of the Pan Arabic Plan to keep the Jews out of the Middle East (forced removal of the Orthodox Christians and Jews and replaced by Arabs from Egypt and Jordan), to perpetuate the hatred for future generations at Islamic Nations the agreed mandatory school curriculum of Hitler's Mein Kampf taught as a success story and the blame the Jews for everything "Protocols of the Wise Elders of Zion" (just like when I attended College at Egypt), etc. (a lot more).

In 2010, I posted why all of this is happening; and will not post that again (claimed to be spam by those that did not want to know the truth).
Everyone is complaining about the republican primaries and the candidates. But no one is looking at the fact that the democrats can't choose a candidate. They are forced to vote for Obama, like it or not.
They are brain washed to one person. They have no primaries to discover if any of the 43 million registered democrats are better than Obama. There is no discussion about his failures or inadequacies or who could do a better job.
There is no discussion about his Marxist Pastor Wright or his giving $500,000,000 to the Finnish Car Company to compete with G.M. Obama has no victories to brag about. Iraq was not set up with a pro western government and we are still mired in Afghanistan when he could have ordered a carpet bombing and gotten the hell out.
He still has no idea about Syria and Iran.
The U.S. is rudderless without a captain at the bridge. We are repeating the Costa Concordia disaster with an incompetent Captain Francesco Schettino (Obama) at the controls.
Is he on Chemo again?
Bush hater-1426382, don't death wish please. You are suspended for a week for violating rule # 5 of the Code of Honor.
ldo, this doesn't apply to public figures, only other members of Newsvine.
Well, let's give McCain a plane and let him do it!
He lost a total of 5 planes in his illustrious career. Needs to take his meds and a nap.
Don't forget he also blew up his own aircraft carrier (USS Forrestall), too.
Not kidding, look it up. Might not have really been his fault, but the guy did seem to be like that hapless 1970s-cop-show officer who just ends up having everything around him exploding.
What an idiot McCain is. Throw in Lindsay Graham and Joe Lieberman and you've got a senior strike force. Go at it guys! Knock yourselves out!!! Leave the rest of the world out of it.
That's why Israel wanting to strike Iran is so ludicrous....or should I write "Netanyu" wants to strike Iran. That man is nutso. Doesn't he notice that the Arabs are fighting each other and they could care less about Israel. he should be happy that they're destroying each other....but he wants to stir the pot further and bomb Iran. he's trying to draw the U.S. into another war.
What about Seal Team 6 taking out Assad....................
@ Chris:
My father served on the USS Forrestal and the USS Monrovia, so this helps to explain some things. Thank you for the information.
"Old rich men start the wars and the young men (and women) die fighting them." Enough is enough!
Sally, the only thing "ridiculous" is your comment. Israelis think "defense" every minute of their lives, and cannot compromise in lieu of worthless papers (Egypt) or empty promises (Gaza). They cannot afford to make the same mistake twice.
One strike in the US will take out Rhode Island. One strike in Israel will take out the entire country. A different way of thinking is in order for them - not OBAMAS way of thinking!
No, he just was on the deck at the time of the explosion. It was the plane behind him that had a missile fire prematurely. Although, there are rumors that McCain was "hotdogging' on the deck and hit his afterburners which caused the missile to fire. The official report mentions nothing about this.
My, and to think I voted for this guy. Now I'm glad Obama won. I was more interested in economic policy at the time, and had no idea McCain was such a war hawk.
McCain the senile old phuck needs to resign from Congress. He receives enough government money that he can retire comfortably.
i understand and get your glad for not voting for McCAIN, but why would you vote for Obama who APOLOGIZES TO MURDERERS who killed our soldiers for burning a book thatrepresents their murders and terrorism??? Why would you vote for a man who refused to wear the American flag on his lapel??? why would you vote for a man who takes dirty money and kickbacks from corporations and wallstreet??? Why would you vote for a man who refuses to work with congress and actually work together to help America??? I have 100's more, but my last one is why vote for a man who REFUSES TO SING and acknowledge our national anthem??? Take your time, I'll wait...... In the meantime, as for the record- I WILL NOT VOTE FOR A MAN(obama) WHO DOESN'T LOVE AND RESPECT THIS COUNTRY, that goes for his hypocrite WIFE!!!
McCain has called on air-strikes on everything except Idaho. Not saying one way or the other if airstrikes should be taken but listening to McCain on if or if not something should be bombed is not what I would do. The dude has to have to stock in Northrup Grumman as every time someone yells he says bomb. "Little boy that cried wolf."
Bmoremom: I assume you're talking to me. I'm always amazed how someone can take a simple statement and extrapolate all manner of rubbish from it. You're not worth responding to as I didn't make any of the assumptions you've attributed to me.
Comment # 2 restored for clarity.
McCain must be senile. Let the Syrians kill each other. Let the Libyans kill each other. Let the Iraqis kill each other. Let the Afghans kill each other. Why should we care is there is less of them at the end of the day. They pray for the destruction of America every single day. Let THEM be the victims of their own barbarism instead of U.S. soldiers.
McCain just said on C-Span that; "the Syrian Opposition are our allies" From what I understand, Al Queda supports the Opposition 100%. What does that tell you?
McCain was the first over in Libya too, calling for Ghadafi's demise. Yeh, and Now Al-Q is in the east of Libya. And the country still isn't together.
Yeah, uh huh. Our new "allies" in the Syrian opposition will undoubtedly prove to be as reliable as our "friends" in Afghanistan. STAY OUT!!
Sally
Wasn't it Obama who gave the order to bomb Libya? Would't that be Obama's War?
@slodon- no. The UN approved military measures regarding Libya. The US was not the only one involved. Try again.
Here's a brief recap of what once was in Libya, BEFORE we BOMBED away!
There is no electricity bill in Libya; electricity is free for all its citizens.
There is no interest on loans, banks in Libya are state-owned and loans given to all its citizens at zero percent interest by law.
Having a home is considered a human right in Libya.
All newlyweds in Libya receive $60,000 dinar (U.S.$50,000) by the government to buy their first apartment so to help start up the family.
Education and medical treatments are free in Libya. Before Gaddafi only 25 percent of Libyans were literate. Today, the figure is 83 percent.
Should Libyans want to take up farming career, they would receive farming land, a farming house, equipments, seeds and livestock to kick start their farms are all for free.
If Libyans cannot find the education or medical facilities they need, the government funds them to go abroad, for it is not only paid for, but they get a U.S.$2,300/month for accommodation and car allowance.
If a Libyan buys a car, the government subsidizes 50 percent of the price.
The price of petrol in Libya is $0.14 per liter.
Libya has no external debt and its reserves amounting to $150 billion are now frozen globally.
If a Libyan is unable to get employment after graduation the state would pay the average salary of the profession, as if he or she is employed, until employment is found.
A portion of every Libyan oil sale is credited directly to the bank accounts of all Libyan citizens.
A mother who gives birth to a child receive U.S.$5,000.
40 loaves of bread in Libya costs $0.15.
25 percent of Libyans have a university degree.
Gaddafi carried out, and paid for, the world’s largest irrigation project, known as the Great Man-made River project, to make water readily available throughout the desert country.
Bombs away!!
You are right, and if we did help them gain their freedom they would turn on us in the end.
You can say about the same for Iraq, they were the leader in health, medicine and education in the Middle East. Our idiot leaders back then had no clue of the different secular factions that divided the country, they just thought a Muslim was a Muslim, no difference.
Us taking out Saddam (I'm not saying he was a nice guy), basically handed the Middle East to his sworn enemy Iran. If there is a way to screw things up, the US is sure to take that path, that I have confidence in.
Oh, and for all the partisan people out there arguing of who's fault what wars are... Remember, Democrats voted for the Iraq war with the Republicans pushing for it, while Republicans pushed to do something in Libya until it was done, then said it was the wrong thing to do.
Both parties aren't worth a sh!t in my eyes. The Republicans are bunch of bully war mongers while the Democrats are a bunch of spineless wussies that end up getting bullied into making the wrong decisions.
The undertones of the Syrian revolt are much like the Libyan revolt. They are tinged with religious fundamentalism, rather than liberal democracy.
Also.... the NEW government in Egypt is about to wipe out Mubarek's entire family, just as the Bolsheviks did to Czar Nicolai's, before replacing him with a much more brutal tyrant named Josef Stalin. And believe me, the European countries are not embracing Islam...they are trying to cope with a flood of Islamic refugees who cling to their third-world traditions....
Defiance, is this email yours? If so, share your thoughts with everyone, don't just email me. (Out of respect, I blocked out your personal email address in the copy below)
If so, please explain how Saddam was a threat to the US. Then explain why we backed him and helped him keep his power for so long. Remember, I didn't say he was a nice man, nor do I believe he treated the @!$%#es or Kurds well, but the religious war was internal. Oh yeah, where were those WMD's that we started the war over?
Oh, you mention our enemies not getting across our border and attacking us here, did 9-11 happen in another NY, DC, and PA in an alternate universe?
Al Qaeda is a Sunni Muslim organization. Syria is a predominately Shi'ite country. They would not allow Al Qaeda in Syria, much less run an opposition. Learn about the Middle East before commenting on it. And, STOP listening to FOX "news."
Mark... ignorance is not a handicap, please troll elsewhere :-)
Amen to that.
marlen101917
If I recall correctly, Osama Bin Laden was one of the United State's allies, when the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan.
dear marlen101917,
ur an idiot al qaeda does NOT support the revolution but rather they support hezbollah who IS bashar al assads ally stop making excuses against the inhuman crisis in syria it just makes u sound more retarded than you really are
The US(at least our leaders who were looking out for they and their cronies) backed Saddam for years, against Iran.
When Saddam carried out the gassings of Kurds and others(the late 80's), the US didn't raise a fuss about it. He was untouchable, as long as he played ball and kept Iran in check.
Not until the supposed plot against Bush Sr by Saddam and the invasion of Kuwait, did our leaders suddenly label Saddam as a "threat".
Comment # 3 restored for clarity.
This is just like Iraq. A large religious group governed by a much smaller sect. Topple the one who is doing the annihilating now to enable the other to become the annihilator.
Let's airdrop him in there and let him sort it out on his own. Good Luck John!
Adam44 .... lol ... he wouldn't be comfortable going in unless he crashed!
I don't think the Syrian situation is quite as clear cut as people seem to think. You can make a strong case that the Syrian government is playing too strong a hand in trying to suppress the uprising, but I think we don't have a really good complete picture of what it is about.
You have to wonder what would happen if the religious fundamentalists in this country banded together with massive protests and attacks against government facilities. Let's say their goal was to throw out the secular government because they were in favor of one more religiously based. Now I don't think we would be conducting air strikes against this rebellious band, but you can be certain that the government would try to bring it under control. So if China or some other nation decided that our government was exerting inappropriate means to control the revolution, would it be appropriate for them to step in and attack our government?
You can say that the above isn't a relevant analogy, but are you sure? No matter who's side you were on in the above scenario, would you support an intervention by China?
Syria has a pretty long history of internal problems within their country. If you look at its government, it is probably closer to what you had in Iraq vs. what you had in Libya. I am not about to say that I understand completely just what is happening in Syria and I suspect that most people may even know less about it than I do.
What is interesting is that the Assad government did a lot of positive things for Syria, but because the country has been under Emergency Law since 1963, it has acted a lot like a dictatorship, even though it technically isn't. It just seems like situations such as this are bound to create problems over time. It is pretty easy to criticize the reactions of the Syrian government, but what is much harder to do is clearly understand, support or criticize the revolutionary effort.
I believe we are in a position where we can criticize the Assad government and even do things like issue sanctions in an attempt to influence their behavior, but I don't see us in a position to be taking sides in their civil war. The same would have been true in Libyahad it not been for a united declaration from the UN. And in reality, we supported the UN declaration for action, but really tried to avoid taking sides. We condemned the Qaddafi regime and took action against it, but really didn't actively support the rebels. That allowed us to minimize our risks and quickly exit the conflict when military action was over. I know some may struggle to see a difference, but when you take unilateral action, it's a whole other situation. I am afraid that McCain would be too quick to take action without thinking of the consequences.
He can do the most damage flying for the Syrian gov. Hell, they have a statue of him in Hanoi.
1NewDay,very well thought out post, thank you.
Why in the hell do we have to be the worlds police!!! Everyone wants us to stay out of everything and then in the same breath we must take care of every country that cant take care of themselves.
To hell with them, bring our troops home!!!
You have got to be kidding Left hand!!!!! There will not be a beyond if O is re-elected!!!
Isn't it time for someone else to step up and help these countries out? We (as a country) can't even take care of our own issues.....
Excuse me aren't we a little overextended now. Until they start shooting americans which they can't do if we aren't there it is none of our business.
If he is willing to pay for it personally, or at least get private donations to do this, then more power to him. Aside from that, not our problem.
Just what we need, more airstrikes killing people. We need to stop the killing, not do more of it. Every time we drop bombs, we seem to kill the wrong people and then get criticized for it. Enough is enough. Let them solve their own issues. As sad as the situation is for those people, why do we as Americans need to help people who truly hate us.
Just what this country needs, another middle east war. Bring all the troops home and put them on the U.S.-Mexican border.
That's not going to happen, all the old rich white Texans enjoy the cheap labor offered by them.
Notice how nobody cracks down on the people who hire illegals, it's republican hypocrisy at its finest.
I used to respect McCain at one time. I think he has fully slipped into dementia nowadays. This is yet another one of his saber rattling sessions. I believe he still thinks that America has some "manifest destiny" to be the saviour and protector of the entire planet. He should hook up with Palin and they could open a theme park in Alaska, where you can engage in video warfare against all the other nations of the world, and do some big game hunting, nintendo wii style. Just think of it, warplane themed roller coasters, the "haunted mansion of communism", etc. I see some big money in that! At least enough to pay for his medication and her trips to the hair stylist.
It is tragic that so many Syrians are losing their lives, but we cannot continue to be the world's police force. There are many rich Arab countries (with fighter jets) that can help the Syrians if they so desire. The United States has lost more than it's fair share of treasure (dead and wounded soldiers top the list) in Middle East conflicts.
The worlds police force? Are you kidding? Every war that the US is involved in now a days is for personal gain, otherwise known as OIL!!!!
Police... what a joke.
However I do feel for the Syrian people and hope there is a way that they can get themselves out of this mess.
A$$ for you Allan-2189341. The main reason why the US never stepped in since last March is because there is no OIL or at least not enough!!
You sound like a trick!
Bosnia wasn't for oil.
But then again, there was massive genocide going on there.
That was in 1995!!! when one of your greatest presidents was in office... Can you say Clinton? (No offense)
Heh. If there was no 2 term limit for POTUS I'd say the Dems should ditch Obama and put him back in. >>
Clinton was a master at partisan compromise.
And other things, apparently.
Ruken-
I know eh!
I'm Canadian if you couldn't tell , although I liked Clinton when he was the POTUS.
Syria has its own fighter jets, and its own really good air defense network. It doesn't need fighter jets from other countries interfering in its civil war.
How can a senator just call for unilateral miltary action in Syria without support from the UN and international community and without even knowing who the opposition forces are? What a mess and what a distorted vision of policy from the esteemed military mind from AZ. Thankfully, this man did not get elected in 2008.
I empathize with McCain's concerns. I also desire for the democratic aspirations of the Syrian people to be realized, but not if it means the US flying in cowboy fashion to save the day. US involvement, without UN approval and assistance of allies, would inevitably lead to mass civilian casualites of the very people that we are trying to save and also costs us very dearly with international opinion which would rapidly sway to the Assad regime (i.e. current aggressor becoming victim upon involvement by US).
Perhaps I'm too much of cynic, but this bluster by a republican senator just smells as if the intent is to get the US (and the Obama admnistration) engaged in a quagmire that can not be resolved militarily during an election year. Please stay out of this Mr. Obama. The only reason for greater involvement at the McCain level would be if the UN found consensus. There is no reason for US military personnel to be involved and most likely killed for an action that will not be legal (either in World court of law or congress) and that will not provide any tangible gains for US policy interests in the region.
How? The same way we went to war with Korea, Viet Nam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and......Ignore the Constitution of the United States of America.
Mr. Cool -
Not everythign is so black-n-white. In retrospect, I support the action in Korea, Afghanistan and Libya.
I do not support the intervention in Vietnam or Iraq in 2003 (yet I still do support Gulf War 1 1990-1991).
To explain all of this would require me to write a book to explain the rationale for each point of view (either for or against).
Suffice to say that a blanket response that the US Constitution has been ignored in all cases that you cite above will not stand historic accuracy.
There has not been a conflict over the last 25 years where McCain's answer has not been "Send in the troops".
Good old warmongering John at it again.
I hope all this outrage is there when our current leader takes us to war with Iran as he is threatening. But I know all you Sheeple will find a reason that it is a good thing and verry important and humanitarian then. Isn't there a shiney object or some college slut you should be outraged about also. Forget the struggling economy find some republican to bitch about and pretend everything is just wonderful in your perfect world.
Who pays for it -
OK, you are not an Obama fan. Got it.
The point of the article is McCain's position on unilateral military action in Syria. Do support or not?
In regards to Iran, the US has a policy that seems to be bi-partisan. All of them (Ds and Rs) applaud fanatically during AIPAC events and other meetings that cite the need to stop the progression of the Iranian state to acquire the bomb. I agree that Iran should not have a nuclear weappon, yet I do not support a pre-emptive strike on Iranian facilities and won't change my spots on that position, regardless whether the president is D or R. I'd say my muddled position on this matter is pretty consistent with most Americans at this time. A pre-emptive strike would compromise US principles, but such a military action may be the only viable option.
Anyway, stop worrying about birth control and promiscuous women (I'll concern myself with those girls) and stay focused on the senator in AZ. What do you think of the former presidential candidate from 2008? He's a real military genius isn't he?
A nuclear armed Iran would be a stabilizing influence in the Middle East. It would serve as a counterbalance to both the nuclear sabre rattling apartheid Israeli regime and its lapdog apologists in the US. It would force them to think twice before further militarily adventuring in the area.
JohnCarter:
Please. The Persian Empire has aspirations of a return to their previous glory. They have a history and ache for a return when they were a power. For them, this is not driven by religion, but they will use Islam, nuclear weapons, and terrorist proxies as a tool to achieve their goal. And their goal has been the same since Thermopylae. People talk about Ron Paul wanting to turn the clock back 50 years. That's nothing, Persia wants to turn the clock back by thousands of years. These are the people who would use a nuke. They do not recognize even the basic tenants that most countries adhere to.
Anyway, that is not what this article is about. I respect Sen. John McCain, and understand why he believes that we should intervene, but like many I disagree. I believe that we should seek out more domestic oil, and our allies to shift to supplies that come more friendlier stable governments, and pretty much isolate this area of the world and let them duke it out, only interfering when they step out of their geographical boundries with their non-sense. And when they do, cripple them and leave them that way.
This area of the world has been in conflict for a long time. It reminds me of a disfunctional family that will fight tooth and nail against each other. That is until an outsider tries to step, then they will both gang up against the interloper, and when done, go back to fighting among themselves. I say screw them. Isolate them, then deal with the winner.
And, besides that. If we got so much oil, why don't we exploit it and sell it to the Chinese instead of all these Middle Eastern nations that cause all this grief. It will pay down our debt, and get China out of the business of supporting these rouge states.
Mr. Carter-
At one time, such a counterbalance existed in one Saddam Hussein.
OUR government thought they could improve on the situation. History will likely not be kind, given the likely outcome of our meddling.
Someone, anyone, please tell this little rascal to go sit down. Better yet, head to Alaska and buddy up with his even nuttier VP choice.....only one phrase for ole McCainly......C'MON MAN.......
Lets see we have a war in Afghanistan, a war in Iraq and next war in Iran (for Israel) and war in Syria.
don't forget the other ones, when we helped the rebles. Hey are we ever going to get payed back for all the bombs and ammo we used. Yeah right. And i'm tired of these people talking for me. nobody asked me if we can go start a war. but its always the american people will not stand by. DID YOU EVER ASK ME ASS H---E
ENEMY BELLIGERENT MCCAIN!
YOU pay for it yourself, Senator McCain or keep your MOUTH SHUT!
We cannot afford to go to war and YOU are attempting to deplete what security net remains for OUR nation. So unless you are prepared to fight demonstrators here in the United States that will defend their families from your ceaseless spending on false war that has nothing to do with us - SHUT YOUR MOUTH.
We are tired of your extreme disrespect to our families that built this nation under God.
Get out of Washington - you inciter of war! You solicitor of global trouble!
You never engaged in combat - and you know NOTHING about it so stop putting my son in harm's way for your old wrinkled up ass.
You pay for your own wars or go fight them yourself.
I have no interest in Syria.
I'm fed up with the United States of America reconstructing nations of Islam and fighting their religious wars.
GET OUT OF MY COUNTRY - YOU TRAITOR! YOU ENEMY BELLIGERENT! YOU THIEF OF THE TAX DOLLAR!
GO FIGHT YOUR OWN DAMNED FABRICATED WAR AND LEAVE US MONEY ALONE!
You're amazing!!! You couldn't of said this any better Mackie-4741671
McCASS IS A STRAIGHT DONKEY!!
This nation was built by agnostics. Not imaginary skyman.
However I agree, we need to get out of religious civil wars.
You never engaged in combat - and you know NOTHING about it
Well said with one exception Mickie.. . . . John McCain did serve in the military. He was a prisoner of war for about 6 years if I recall correctly during the Vietnam war. He served our country faithfully and I have a great deal of respect for him for that reason. BUT, he needs to leave Washington D.C. and retire. He should have been gone long ago. This is not a time for our country to come to the rescue of people who hate us one day, but love us when we come dropping bombs to suit their needs.
To Mackie,
I agree with you that we shouldn't get involved in Syria, that would be insane. But there are a few points I'll bring up. First,a Senator saying something like he did. While stupid, really is just hot air. Second, John McCain, however he has fallen down now,is a American Hero.He was shot down in Vietnam, was captured, and spent years of his life in a prison camp.Being tortured to betray our country, and refusing to,even under more torture. All Americans should respect what he gave for our country.Even though we disagree with what he is doing now.
Hey uncle bob,you did a great job spitting out the BULLSH-T about your BOYFRIEND the TRAITOR mccain!!!!
Unlike you "model boy",I can disagree with McCain's idea's (and as very much a Liberal I do) without demonizing an American hero.I know someone like you wouldn't understand trying to balance two ideas at the same time. But you really should try.
jesus christ, stop the warmongering, fix the country u blathering idiots, frack other countrys right now.
If McCain himself leads those planes in yes. go for it. Otherwise, QUIT playing games with the lives of others!
YOU go McCain, if you're so gunning for war. Wanker.
4 war mongers that never put their own kids in battle:
bin Laden
Saddam Hussein
George W Bush
Dick Cheney
Wait a minute! Didn't he crash the last jet he flew? Let's not waste even more money!! Seriously, I wonder what McCain would be saying if the President had decided to send in air support on his own. Who wants to bet that he'd be in front of congress this week talking about how irresponsible a Syrian war would be considering the economy, blah blah blah. He just takes the opposite opinion and shoots his mouth off. It almost makes me think he wants to run for President again!! I think I'm getting sick.....
The only war he participated in he was captured. This guy is a total loser.
This war monger (McCain) also nearly destroyed the USS Forrestal, and in so doing killed American Service men. This fool has been known to associate with Arizona criminals. This putz also uses foul language and disrespects people who are called to testify before any Senate Committee he sits on.
Google McCain and see his foul mouthed assault on the woman who wants the US to have an open dialogue with Vietnam about the warriors who are STILL UNACCOUNTED FOR. My drill sergeant never put curse words together so well.
This fool needs to be impeached, arrested or thrown out of Congress he has, like the kid in the Oval Office, never had a real job. He has been supping at the public trough ever since he ‘left’ the Navy.
That says it all.
McCain said the same thing about Libya - until we did it, then he was against it.
You're right.. I was thinking the VERY same thing...
After McCain consulted with Sarah Palin, he decided that invading Syria sounded like a good idea. Now, he should go himself with a bunch of his war mongering repubs and take over Syria himslef. John, Sarah will watch you in Syria from her back porch.
Let's see. Iraq, Afganistan, Libya, Iran, now Syria. Has this guy ever heard of a war he didn't want to get into. Dummy, both sides hate us, gabeesh?
Typical war monger, in a Wall St crippled economy with a shortage of troops McInsane is ready to start yet another war. Yeah, that's a republican fiscal conservative for you.
Aren't you glad he's not out current geriatric and paranoid president? With the ever pregnant quitter at his side?
Not that Omaba isn't going to miss any chances feeding the war machine either, but McCain would start a war with Canada if he thought he had an opportunity, make believe or created by his own staff.
Republicans have all but promissed wars with Syria and IRAN if elected. Obama 2012!
Obama promised to end all wars and bring the troops home... Where are our troops at then? Now he's backing Isreal VS Iran. Obama promised a lot of things, still waiting for my weekly stimulus check, my free gas, and free healthcare. NEVER TRUST OR BELIEVE ANY POLITICIAN!
BTW: The Phrase "Obama 2012" sounds like an end of the world Prophecy... Oh, it is?
Hunter: You have no idea what you're talking about.
Hunter, Obama did not promise to end all wars and bring the troops home. He promised that he would end the war in Iraq and focus on Afghanistan to get the people who planned out the 9/11 attacks. He did that and Bin Laden is dead.
Hunter has obviously been listening to Limbaugh's interpretation of Obama's discussions. Or at least he's using the same moronic misinterpretaions as his favorite talk show host uses. Hunter, please get out from in front of your car radio and get some real information. When Limppaw or Faux News says someone said something, does it ever occur to you to find out if they actually said it? I didn't think so.
McCain , Lucky hes not President. We be at WAR with everybody on the planet.
We already are moron!
We're at war with Bulgaria?
We are at war with Canada? Why those... Canucks!
it doesnt matter if we "cant afford it" the u.s. was made for humanitarian efforts. like or not, that's one of the u.n's main responsibility. How can you call yourself an american when you just turn the other way when people are getting slaughtered by their own government? What happened to real american values?
but i will say that just bombing the place is a bad idea, just look at how well that works out in iraq
The United States is not the the U.N., it's a member of the U.N., You are an idiot, and I am glad everyone in this country does not believe as you do. One of the reasons so many people in the world hate us is because the government of this country for some reason thinks it should enforce its idea of democracy on the rest of the world. We go around with a big stick and bully others into doing our bidding. Our own people don't have proper medical care and enough to eat while we tell others how to govern themselves. Our government is bought and sold to rich people in the form of campaign contributions, and they use insider information to make themselves rich. And we have the nerve to call ourselves a democracy! We should have to have a popular election to have a war on foreign soil unless it is prompted by an attack within our borders by a foreign government. This idea of protecting Israel while they commit their own war crimes is insane. So is liberating every other country from their own dictators. That is the U.N.'s job not the job of the United States.
Who said the U.S. is responsible for the rest of the world? Sounds like you'er the only one.
Surely you jest? Americans, humanitarian? Only to countries that can provide something to America.
You call damn near annihilating American Indians, than forcing Africans into slavery to build America, humanitarian?
Umm...Veggie...we didn't just bomb...we put boots on the ground; where you been for the last 10 years? I do agree though, it hasn't exactly exceeded expectations. GW seemed to think in both Iraq and Afghanistan we could force people to accept a Jeffersonian Democracy...one small problem, they don't want it. If our only point in occupying Afghanistan was to get bin Laden and drive the Taliban out...then declare victory and get the hell out. As to Syria? ...Syria who?
I can call myself an american very easily. Plus we dont know who is behind the opposition force. We dont need another hostile arab state.
If we don't do anything about these world wide issues now it will get completly out of control if it's not already. To lay down now will only set up our children up for disaster. There is NO pulling out and NO sitting on the side lines. The mistakes in the past have put us on this ugly road that has no exit. If the free people and capable nations don't stand together and fight our children's fate will be sealed. WAKE UP!!! We don't have a choice but to only stay the coarse.
Killing for peace
Killing for peace
Killing for peace
Thanks John. How did that work out for you over Vietnam? Do you really want us involved in another messy country where these @!$%#s routinely burned the US flag over the last 40 years. Who are we rescuing? Who cares? Let them sort their own mess out and let their Muslim "brothers" decide who to back. When religion is so deeply involved in the state you can never win. Iran, Saudi, Pakistan, Indonesia. Take that Santorum and your idiotic idea about blending church and state. Do we want to go to war everytime someone insults a Christian imperative
Um, John McCain, sit your old, rusty, dusty, senile a** down. In case you haven't heard, YOU'RE NOT THE PRESIDENT!
As provided for in the United States Constitution every citizen of this country has a right to voice there opinion. Obama as president is the employee of the citizens of this country. Serfs, Subjects and Slaves sit idly by and are ruled. FREE men and women take an active role in their government. People seem to forget this fact and for the most part so do some of the politicians after they are elected and sworn into office. Obama best be listening to everyone and every option placed before him. Otherwise he will be deemed a useless commodity. Lest he be told on election day to take a long walk on a short pier. Get your head out of your A## C. Smith!
