Asma al-Assad was banned from traveling to Europe and her financial assets were frozen. But the sanctions may be largely impotent, as a UK passport holder she can't be prevented from entering the UK. ITV's Paul Davies reports
WASHINGTON -- Iran is providing a broad array of assistance to Syrian President Bashar Assad to help him suppress anti-government protests, from high-tech surveillance technology to guns and ammunition, U.S. and European security officials say.
Tehran's technical assistance to Assad's security forces includes electronic surveillance systems, technology designed to disrupt efforts by protesters to communicate via social media, and Iranian-made drone aircraft for overhead surveillance, the officials said. They discussed intelligence matters on condition of anonymity.
"Over the past year, Iran has provided security assistance to Damascus to help shore up Assad. Tehran during the last couple of months has been aiding the Syrian regime with lethal assistance - including rifles, ammunition, and other military equipment -- to help it put down the opposition," a U.S. official said.
"Iran has provided Damascus (with) monitoring tools to help the regime suppress the opposition. It has also shared techniques on Internet surveillance and disruption," the official continued.
Syrians brave gunfire in anti-Assad protests
He added that Iran had also provided Assad's government with "unarmed drones that Damascus is using along with its own technology to monitor opposition forces."
Syria's rebel fighters are desperate for arms and ammunition. Members of the Free Syrian Army were forced from Idlib - one of the last rebel strongholds. ITN's John Irvine reports from outskirts of Idlib, the north western city which rebels surrendered last week.
Iranian security officials have also traveled to Damascus to advise Assad's entourage how to counter dissent, the official said. Some Iranian officials have stayed on in Syria to advise Assad's forces, he added.
Iran's multi-pronged security aid to Syria appears to have helped Assad's government in its increasingly violent campaign to hold on to power in the face of a year-long protest movement. The United Nations estimates 8,000 civilians have died in the conflict.
However, the U.S. and European officials said the Syrian government's survival is not totally dependent on continuing help from Tehran.
Assad's wife banned from traveling, shopping in EU
U.S. and allied official broadly agree that Assad's control remains solid. His opponents are hopelessly disorganized, the officials said, which may make it possible for the Syrian president and his entourage to hold onto power for years.
"At current levels Iranian aid is important but not really a game changer in the overall conflict," a U.S. official noted.
Paul Conroy, a photographer for the Sunday Times, was badly injured while on assignment in Syria and his colleague – legendary war correspondent Marie Colvin was killed. Conroy joins NBC's Andrea Mitchell to reflect on the situation.
Iran has for decades been a patron to Syria, which has helped funnel aid and weapons to the Iranian-backed Shiite Muslim militia Hezbollah in Lebanon.
During the protests that followed Iran's disputed 2009 presidential election -- the biggest mass protests since the Islamic Republic's founding in 1979 -- Iranian authorities disrupted social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as cell phone networks.
Iran's internal crackdown reportedly has escalated since then.

A European official said that the Iranians were providing Syrian security agencies with hardware and software that would help them disrupt efforts to organize protests inside Syria and efforts by anti-government elements to spread their message to supporters outside the country.
European suppliers
Officials said that Syria had also obtained some surveillance technology from European suppliers.
As protests against Assad's rule grew last year, the United States first raised the possibility that Iranian authorities were helping their Syrian counterparts suppress dissent.

Last June the U.S. Treasury Department announced economic sanctions against two of Iran's most senior police officials for allegedly helping Assad's government crush protests.
The Treasury imposed U.S. economic sanctions on Ismail Ahmadi Moghadam and Ahmad-Reza Radan, chief and deputy chief of Iran's national police force, because their agency had "provided support to the Syrian General Intelligence Directorate and dispatched personnel to Damascus in April to assist the Syrian government in suppressing the Syrian people."
The Treasury alleged that Radan had traveled to Damascus to meet with Syrian security agencies, to whom he allegedly provided "expertise to aid in the Syrian government crackdown on the Syrian people."
Activist: Assad's crackdown turning peaceful Syrians into terrorists
U.S. officials said Iranian efforts to bolster Syria's surveillance capabilities have been supplemented by deliveries to Syria of Iranian-made unarmed surveillance drone aircraft.
Earlier this month a specialized website, The Aviationist, reported that a drone flying over the city of Homs, the site of recent violent clashes between government and opposition forces, had been identified as a "Pahpad" drone, which the website said meant "remotely piloted aircraft" in Farsi.
Saudi Arabia will deliver military equipment to Syrian rebels in an effort to stop the bloodshed. NBC's Ayman Mohyeldin reports.
In February another specialized website, Open Source GEOINT, published freeze-frame images from what purported to be an amateur cameraman's video of a suspected drone flying over a Damascus suburb.
Iran vows to retaliate 'on the same level' to US or Israel attack
The website noted that some news reports had suggested that the United States was flying intelligence drones over Syria but that the drone in the pictures did not appear to be a U.S. model.
The website cited speculation that the drone might be of Iranian origin. Ynet News, an Israeli website, reported this month that Syria's defense industry produces drones that are technologically identical to Iranian-produced models and speculated that these domestically produced models were what Syrian security forces had deployed.

However, a U.S. official said that some of Syria's drones had come directly from Iran.
Last weekend the Iranian news agency Fars announced that Iranian experts had produced what it called a "new type of drone" known as the Shaparak, or "Butterfly," which it said was "capable of carrying out military and border patrol missions."

The best way to achieve regime change in Tehran is for the U.S. government to empower the Iranian opposition,
the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (MEK).
Empowerment requires removal of the main Iranian
opposition groups from the foreign terrorist list, which it has been maintained
only by the U.S. Only regime change in Tehran can ensure that extremist Iranian terrorism
regime do not wind up with the bomb and its wrong ideology.
The MEK and National
Consul of Resistance of Iran (NCRI)
are feared by the Tehran regime more than any groups, according to
research of the Iran Policy Committee. The IPC finds that state run Iranian
media assail the MEK and mention it 230 percent more than all others opposition
groups combined.
The clerical dictators
in Iran rightfully should fear the MEK. The MEK has
vast support both inside and outside of Iran. It stands for democratization, freedom of
religion, and is a shining example of civil society, protecting minority rights
and treating women and men equally. The MEK has been the main source of
intelligence on Iranian nuclear sites, exposing Iran’s decade’s long deception by revealing once
hidden major nuclear sites in Iran.
On September 17,2011 a
senior panel of former Secretaries, Generals, and Governors, as well as State
and justice Departments officials and attorney General Michael Mukasey, Energy
Secretary Spencer Abraham, Governor Ed Rendell, Ambassador John Bolton, and FBI
Director Louis Freeh denounced the continuing designation of the MEK was acting
as a license for genocide at Camp Ashraf, Iraq,
On July 2010, the MEK
won a ruling from the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit
that the Secretary of State must reconsider the designation of MEK as a foreign
terrorist organization because the information she was relying on to continue
that designation was not sufficient.
In May 2003, the MEK
voluntarily signed a disarmament agreement with the American forces in Iraq. After sixteen months investigation by American
to determine whether anyone had any links to terrorism, all 3800 passed the
test, which included DNA samplings.
Subsequently, the
residents of Ashraf received “protected persons” status under the terms of the
Fourth Geneva Convention. From day first until the end of 2008, the residents
of camp Ashraf remained under the protection of American forces. The Iraqi
government which has long been allied with the Iranian terrorist regime
continues to take orders from Tehran concerning the Camp Ashraf. As the Iranian regime regards the MEK residents of Ashraf as its number
one enemies, it has repeatedly demanded of Baghdad that it close down the Camp and repatriates the
residents to Iran.
The Camp has been attacked twice by Iraqi forces, once in July 2009
and once in April 2011, and both times, when the secretary of defense of the U.S. was present in Iraq. The last time resulting in the murder of 36
defenseless women and men using weapons and vehicle supplied by the U.S. and operated by troops and train by the U.S. And the U.S. has done nothing about it.

where the main Iranian opposition movement, the People's Mujahedin of
Iran
(MEK) is located, I should like to think I can speak with some authority about
this deeply misunderstood organization now at the center of a fierce debate in Washington.
The MEK is the largest
component of the National Council of the
Resistance to Iran (NCRI),
Iran's parliament in exile. They established several bases inside Iraq in 1986,
when Iraq was locked in a war with Iran.
Today, as Iraq grows ever closer with Iran, the
MEK is being targeted for annihilation in its temporary Iraqi home at Camp
Ashraf.
The marginalization and murder of MEK members defies American values and
interests - but far too little has been done about it.
The group was previously thrown to the wolves by
the Clinton administration, which placed the MEK on the State Department's terrorist list at Iran's request in a
futile effort at rapprochement in the late 1990s. Not only was a grave
injustice done to the democratic opposition to Tehran, but
America's reward for appeasement has been Iran's
sprint toward nuclear weapons, attacks on U.S. troops in Iraq and its crushing
of the human rights of its people.
The MEK surrendered to the U.S. military in 2003 without firing a shot, turned
over all its weapons, accepted consolidation at Camp Ashraf and fulfilled every
requirement placed on it. The MEK has even provided reliable intelligence to
the U.S concerning Iran's nuclear program and interference in Iraq.
What did the MEK get in return? Nothing we should
be proud of. As part of its drawdown, the U.S. turned over the protection of
Ashraf to the Iraqi government in January 2009. Twice since then, the Iraqi
military has attacked the camp, killing or wounding hundreds. Today, the 3,400
remaining people in Camp Ashraf live in constant fear.These are the facts.With
the State Department about to announce a decision on whether or not to remove
the MEK from its terror list, anti-MEK "experts" are popping up
everywhere in the American media to discredit the group. These "experts"
range from the sister of a Clinton administration State Department official who
admitted spending but hours analyzing the group, to Iranian-Americans who have
consistently and publicly defended the Iranian regime. Their claims range from
the MEK being a Marxist/Leninist Islamic extremist organization to it being a
dangerous cult in which women are automatons, marriage is prohibited and
members are prevented from leaving. %A0 They claim the group has no support
inside Iran or harbors terrorist ambitions.
These "experts" are maligning a group I
have come to know up close and personally. Firstly, this is no Marxist cult.
The MEK was founded on democratic principles, including equality between
government and governed, between men and women and among various religions and
races. The MEK also believes the clergy should not have total control over
interpretation of the Koran, nor should the clerics have total control over
their congregations. Contrary to a recent claim by Elizabeth Rubin, sister of Jamie Rubin, a
former spokesman for the State Department, the MEK promotes the empowerment of
women.
Concerning the ability of members to depart the
organization: At Ashraf I had responsibility for almost 200 people who left for
Kurdistan. As for the claim that the group has no
support in Iran, I ask the experts, where was I getting the intercepted
sensitive intelligence that a State Department officer was releasing to a
well-known Iranian sympathizer within the Iraqi government?
My colleagues and I had unfettered access to
Ashraf. As a matter of fact, the only time Americans have been denied access to
Ashraf was in 2011, when the Iraqi government refused to allow visitation by a
congressional delegation. I know for a fact the MEK does not have weapons. Just
search for "Ashraf" on YouTube to
see horrific videos of attacks on the camp by the Iraqi Army in 2009 and 2011, in which MEK members
armed only with courage rescued their fallen comrades.
A decision by the State Department that is based
on the facts on the ground will result in the MEK being removed from its
terrorist list and added to America's kit bag in managing its greatest
strategic threat: the Iranian regime. Any decision to the contrary is to the
benefit only of this repressive theocracy and its allies.
Martin, who
retired as a colonel in the U.S. Army, served as
the senior antiterrorism/force protection officer for all coalition forces in
Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
MEK is U.S. allies. They are
the one first time in 2003 provided the
international community with vital information on Iran’s secrat nuclear sites,
also it was the MEK provided the world with details about Iran’s terrorist
training camps and more MEK exposed a list of 32,000 Iranian proxies in Iraq.
Furthermore, MEK unified the Iraqi people to fight terrorism and Iran’s
interference.
MEK never ever should be in FTO list
in first place, now U.S. should seek removal of the MEK from U.S. FTO list
immeditly, as EU and British did . This course of action is recommended by
members of Congress from both parties and by FBI Director and by the Court of
Appeals for District of Columbia and is long overdue.

Russia supplies arms to Iran and supplies technology for Iran to produce their own arms. Russia is behind the arrogance of Iran. It is the way the KGB works and KGB is Putin. Nothing really new here. Iran and Syria formed an alliance well over a decade ago. Just two years ago Iran agreed to build a newer, more advanced RADAR system for Syria. At the same time Iran sent M-300 Grad missiles to Hezbollah via Syria. What Iran cannot supply, Russia has provided since the 1950's.

We see the Outside of the United Nations Building next we see a man dressed in a suite carrying a brief case walking into the building he approaches the Desk of the Chairman of the United Nations, pulls out a very large manila envelope and hands it to the Chairman. The Chairman opens the envelope, reads the paper work and scratches his head, looks up at the Special Carrier with a bewildered look on his face and says; Wow this is an Extremely Unusual Request and it comes from very unusual sources this is a First for me.

It appears that they are following up on an idea that originated from a Film Script Writer in America who came up with an Idea of writing a short Film Script he Calls "Children Seeking World Peace" The writer posted it on line and some of the Country Leaders around the World liked the idea so that they implemented it.

We see the inside of the United Nations building where many young children are standing paired off one boy and one girl facing all of the Adult Leaders from around the World these Children are from all walks of life all different nationalities and all dressed differently.
Every Girl is holding a small pot containing a different flower in it in one hand and a small shovel in their other hand.
Each Boy is holding a small pot containing a different kind of plant in one hand and a small shovel in his other hand.
(all of these flowers and plants are beautiful and very colorful)
Every Boy & Girl from their Country are wearing Name tags with their Countries names on the tags. The Children are just standing there in silence.
The inside of this building is silent at first then we hear whispers coming from the Adult Leaders, what is this all about, what do they want, this is strange.
Next we see a girl step forward from the row of children following behind her is another girl and a boy they are all three standing there for a minute and the room gets silent.
Then the boy speaks,
I have been chosen to speak on behalf of all of the Children in this room. We are standing here before all of you representing the Worlds Next Generation, Your Worlds Next Generation. We only have a few words to say to all of you here today.
All of us had several things that we wanted to say to all of you today but we all decided that words are not enough without all of Our WORLD LEADERS making a Solid Commitment to end all Wars in Our World Today ! ! !
So, we only have three words to say to all of you here today... " PLEASE JUST STOP"
(one of the girls standing next to this young boy translates this message in all languages)
The three young children stand there for a minute in silence then one of the two girls step forward she says, we only have one more request to ask from all of you in this building today, please follow us to the garden area located just outside this building.

The other children in the building follow the three children exiting the building followed by the Adults.
Third Scene;
We see all of the children lined up still holding their flowers and plants in one hand and their shovels in their other hand they are paired off one boy and one girl standing along side of the garden rows facing their Countries signs that are placed in two foot sections of their Special Garden.
(we see all of the Adult Leaders standing around this garden in groups whispering to each other we can't make out what they are saying to each other but they have a confused look on their faces)
Next the same Girl that spoke earlier in the building is holding a flower in one hand and a small shovel in her other hand says, I would like all of the Adult Leaders from their Countries to stand in front of their Countries signs facing each of us. (translated by the girl standing next to this girl)
The Adult Leaders line up in front of their Countries garden signs facing these children then every child bends down at the same time and digs a small hole in the ground in their two foot section of this Special Garden. (each two foot garden section now has two small holes dug in them and everyone is silent)
Next we see the same girl that spoke earlier stand up after digging her hole in the garden she hands her Adult Counter Part Leader her Potted Flower and says, each one of these Flowers that all of us has brought here today Represent WORLD PEACE for Our Future.

All of the Children Around the World requested this SPECIAL UNITED NATIONS MEETING to beg all of the Leaders of Our world to help us Plant our Flowers here today to end all Wars in our World Immediately and all of the Plants that the Boys brought here today represent Commitment To Do So.

Next we see the Boy that spoke earlier at the meeting hand his Adult Counter Part his potted plant then the Girl that is speaking looks over at all of the other Children that are still standing next to their garden and she nodes her head.
Then, All of the Children say the words together, in their own languages in a loud & begging tone. "PLEASE JUST STOP"
Next, We see all of the Children reach in their pockets, pull out a small bag and pour out a few of seeds into each of their Adult Counter Parts hands.
The Girl speaker then says,
we are giving all of you our seeds to take home with you so you can plant them in your gardens as a reminder of your Commitment all of you made here today to; END ALL WARS In Our World IMMEDIATELY..THESE SEEDS ALSO REPRESENT FORGIVENESS for without forgiveness there can be no PEACE, so please pass these seeds on to your transgressor so the Peace Process can begin. We see all of the Adult Leaders bent down next to the Children planting the Children's Flowers & Plants together in their "Special World Peace Garden" Located in Front Of the "UNITED NATIONS BUILDING"

Opening Scene: (filmed in black & white, silent film)
We see an old Soldier walking down a dirt road with a machine gun under his arm
and carrying his young son on his shoulders.
The young boy and his father are dressed in their combat clothing and the boy
also has a machine gun gun tucked under his arm, suddenly they stop.
(our camera pans to a person sitting on a large rock on the side of the road)
We see the back of this person only, the person is wearing a black hooded robe
with their hood raised up.
(we pan back to the old soldier and his son)
The old soldier places his son on the road then pushes him in the direction
of the hooded stranger.
The young boy walks cautiously up to the stranger with his gun drawn
upwards as he gets closer we notice the person is small in stature then the boy
points
the gun at the back of the strangers head.
The stranger turns around slowly then we see it is a young girl, the girl
is the same age as the boy.
The young girl places a daisy in the barrel of the boy's gun.
(at that instant our film changes to color and remains in color)
Next, we see they young boy standing there with a blank look on his face he
then drops the gun on the ground, the gun vanishes and where the gun was we see
three books there instead.
The boy picks up the books curiously, then turns and looks in the direction
where his father was with an astonishment look.
(we show a close-up on boys face then we pan our camera to the father)
The boy's father is now standing there dressed in a white shirt and slacks and

The Chairman opens the envelope, reads the paper work and scratches his head, looks up at the Special Carrier with a bewildered look on his face and says; Wow this is an Extremely Unusual Request and it comes from very unusual sources this is a First for me.

The adults are not to speak at this meeting, only the Children will be allowed to speak at this Special meeting called "CHILDREN SEEKING WORLD PEACE"

We see the inside of the United Nations building where many young children are standing paired off one boy and one girl facing all of the Adult Leaders from around the World these Children are from all walks of life all different nationalities and all dressed differently.
Every Girl is holding a small pot containing a different flower in it in one hand and a small shovel in their other hand.
Each Boy is holding a small pot containing a different kind of plant in one hand and a small shovel in his other hand.

Every Boy & Girl from their Country are wearing Name tags with their Countries names on the tags. The Children are just standing there in silence.
The inside of this building is silent at first then we hear whispers coming from the Adult Leaders, what is this all about, what do they want, this is strange.
Next we see a girl step forward from the row of children following behind her is another girl and a boy they are all three standing there for a minute and the room gets silent.
Then the boy speaks,
I have been chosen to speak on behalf of all of the Children in this room. We are standing here before all of you representing the Worlds Next Generation, Your Worlds Next Generation. We only have a few words to say to all of you here today.
All of us had several things that we wanted to say to all of you today but we all decided that words are not enough without all of Our WORLD LEADERS making a Solid Commitment to end all Wars in Our World Today ! ! !
So, we only have three words to say to all of you here today... " PLEASE JUST STOP"

The three young children stand there for a minute in silence then one of the two girls step forward she says, we only have one more request to ask from all of you in this building today, please follow us to the garden area located just outside this building.

The other children in the building follow the three children exiting the building followed by the Adults.
Third Scene;
We see all of the children lined up still holding their flowers and plants in one hand and their shovels in their other hand they are paired off one boy and one girl standing along side of the garden rows facing their Countries signs that are placed in two foot sections of their Special Garden.
(we see all of the Adult Leaders standing around this garden in groups whispering to each other we can't make out what they are saying to each other but they have a confused look on their faces)
Next the same Girl that spoke earlier in the building is holding a flower in one hand and a small shovel in her other hand says, I would like all of the Adult Leaders from their Countries to stand in front of their Countries signs facing each of us. (translated by the girl standing next to this girl)
The Adult Leaders line up in front of their Countries garden signs facing these children then every child bends down at the same time and digs a small hole in the ground in their two foot section of this Special Garden. (each two foot garden section now has two small holes dug in them and everyone is silent)
Next we see the same girl that spoke earlier stand up after digging her hole in the garden she hands her Adult Counter Part Leader her Potted Flower and says, each one of these Flowers that all of us has brought here today Represent WORLD PEACE for Our Future.

All of the Children Around the World requested this SPECIAL UNITED NATIONS MEETING to beg all of the Leaders of Our world to help us Plant our Flowers here today to end all Wars in our World Immediately and all of the Plants that the Boys brought here today represent Commitment To Do So.
(translated again by the girl standing next to her)
Next we see the Boy that spoke earlier at the meeting hand his Adult Counter Part his potted plant then the Girl that is speaking looks over at all of the other Children that are still standing next to their garden and she nodes her head.
Then, All of the Children say the words together, in their own languages in a loud & begging tone. "PLEASE JUST STOP"
Next, We see all of the Children reach in their pockets, pull out a small bag and pour out a few of seeds into each of their Adult Counter Parts hands.
The Girl speaker then says,
we are giving all of you our seeds to take home with you so you can plant them in your gardens as a reminder of your Commitment all of you made here today to; END ALL WARS In Our World IMMEDIATELY..THESE SEEDS ALSO REPRESENT FORGIVENESS for without forgiveness there can be no PEACE, so please pass these seeds on to your transgressor so the Peace Process can begin. (translated by the girl standing next to her)
Last Scene
We see all of the Adult Leaders bent down next to the Children planting the Children's Flowers & Plants together in their "Special World Peace Garden" Located in Front Of the "UNITED NATIONS BUILDING"

Opening Scene: (filmed in black & white, silent film)
We see an old Soldier walking down a dirt road with a machine gun under his arm
and carrying his young son on his shoulders.
The young boy and his father are dressed in their combat clothing and the boy
also has a machine gun gun tucked under his arm, suddenly they stop.
(our camera pans to a person sitting on a large rock on the side of the road)
We see the back of this person only, the person is wearing a black hooded robe
with their hood raised up.
(we pan back to the old soldier and his son)
The old soldier places his son on the road then pushes him in the direction
of the hooded stranger.
The young boy walks cautiously up to the stranger with his gun drawn
upwards as he gets closer we notice the person is small in stature then the boy
points
the gun at the back of the strangers head.
The stranger turns around slowly then we see it is a young girl, the girl
is the same age as the boy.
The young girl places a daisy in the barrel of the boy's gun.

Next, we see they young boy standing there with a blank look on his face he
then drops the gun on the ground, the gun vanishes and where the gun was we see

The boy picks up the books curiously, then turns and looks in the direction
