Female prisoners gather in the courtyard of a women's prison in Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan, on Oct. 22, 2010.
Updated at 6:18 a.m. ET: KABUL, Afghanistan -- For Afghan women, the act of fleeing domestic abuse or forced prostitution may land them in jail while their abusers walk free, Human Rights Watch said in a report published Wednesday.
Running away is considered a "moral crime" for women in Afghanistan while some rape victims are also imprisoned, because sex outside marriage -- even when the woman is forced -- is considered adultery, another "moral crime."
"From the first time I came to this world my destiny was destroyed," 17-year-old Amina, who has spent months in jail after being forced into prostitution, told researchers from Human Rights Watch.
Despite progress in women's rights and freedom since the fall of the Taliban a decade ago, women throughout the country are at risk of abduction, rape, forced marriage and being traded as commodities.

It can be hard for women to escape violence at home because of huge social pressure and legal risks to stay in marriages.
"The treatment of women and girls accused of 'moral crimes' is a black eye on the face of the post-Taliban Afghan government and its international backers, all of whom promised that respect for women's rights would distinguish the new government from the Taliban," the New York-based group said.
"This situation has been further undermined by President (Hamid) Karzai's frequently changing position on women's rights. Unwilling or unable to take a consistent line against conservative forces within the country, he has often made compromises that have negatively impacted women's rights."
Teen boxer Sadaf Rahimi, who aims to compete at this summer's London Olympics, hopes her achievements will be an example to others in her war-ravaged country. NBC News' Kiko Itasaka reports.
The rights organization said that there were about 400 women and girls being held in Afghanistan for "moral crimes", and they rarely found support from authorities in a "dysfunctional criminal justice system".
'He will kill me'
The plight of a woman called Nilofar illustrates the problem. She was stabbed repeatedly with a screwdriver in the head, chest, and arms by her husband who accused her of adultery for inviting a man into the house, the rights group said.
But afterwards, she was arrested, he was not.
Afghan woman, imprisoned over rape, is free
"The way he beat her wasn't bad enough to keep him in jail. She wasn't near death, so he didn't need to be in prison," the prosecutor of the case told Human Rights Watch.
The dire treatment of women was the main reason Western countries gave for refusing to recognize the Taliban government as legitimate when it was in power.
As Afghan and Western leaders seek a negotiated end to more than 10 years of war, the future for women is uncertain.
The United States and NATO -- who are fighting an unpopular war as they prepare to pull out most combat troops by the end of 2014 -- have stressed that any settlement must ensure the constitution, which says the two sexes are equal, is upheld.
A law, passed in August 2009, supports equality for women, including criminalizing child and forced marriage, selling and buying women for marriage or for settling disputes, as well as forced self-immolation, among other acts.

But women, especially in rural areas, lack shelters to flee abuse while only one percent of police are female, according to the report based on interviews from October to November with 58 women and girls as well as prosecutors, judges, government officials and civil society.
Social stigma
The ordeal for women does not stop with jail though.
Once leaving prison, women and girls face strong social stigma in the conservative country and may be killed in so-called "honor killings".
"I just want a divorce. I can't go back to my father because he will kill me. All my family has left me behind," 20-year-old Aisha, who was sentenced to three years for fleeing an abusive husband she was forced to marry, told researchers.

Right-wing conservative religious fanatics -in both America and Afghanistan- spend their whole lives doing nothing but trying to control the sex lives of everyone else, and for some perverted reason can't stop interfering with what people do with their penises and vaginas.
Christians, Muslims and Jews have sex on the brain, those three religions have the most insane, perverted ideas about sex and sexuality imaginable.
I was born Christian, the first thing my parents did when I was born was mutilate my genitals because God made my penis wrong. But Muslims are crazy?
don't you think that Christian religions have a good idea by not agreeing with perverted acts which some people like to use? It's never ok for a husband to cheat on his wife or a wife on her husband, but if the wife does, she doesn't get mutilated or killed. She can repent and go on with her life, and she is still accepted by society as a normal human being, not some kind of immoral harlot who deserves to be killed.
Society, not necessarily religion has ruled controling people's behavior, like rape is a crime, cheating is socially unacceptable with normal people, and bigamy or polygamy are illegal. These are good things and abiding by them keep society from becoming degenerate.
What I don't understand is where you get the unmitigated gaul to compare Christianity's treatment of women and the Muslim's treatment as if they were both wrong, or worse yet, one and the same. That, to me, proves a bigoted, uninformed, or a malicious mind who likes to twist the facts.
@Sane man in an insane world
Yeah Muslims are crazy... Go ahead and pull one of your "normal" immoral stunts and see what they mutilate or cut off first. You think you have it soooo bad here in America? Please, relocate to another country, preferably a 3rd world, Muslim one so you can having something to boo-hoo about.
Technically, circumcision is a Jewish practice. Early Christians actually had big arguments saying that circumcision wasn't necessary.
Still though, I'm Christian and circumcised, I don't really see what the big deal is...
serenity-1238411
Th fallacy with your thinking is that all Muslim men and all Muslim countries do not act this way towards women. Indonesia and Malaysia have by far the largest Muslim communities and they do not act this way. The behavior is middle eastern and tribal and not actual part of the religion.
There will come a day when a group of these women will finally have enough of this garbage and band together and then I hope the men who act out these disgusting crimes will be so sorry.
Men and Women need to band together to stop the violance in homes around the world. This DISGUSTING.
Those women need somewhere to go where they are safe. I don't have the answer but there has to be help for these women somewhere, somehow.
Domewars, Bush has nothing to do with this. How ridiculous to even bring Bush into this.
It is a diversionary tactic to focus readers on social issues rather than the issue of why we are there spilling US blood and money. Ten years ago the US went after the Taliban because.....
Even the hospitality claim I doubt since OBL was killed in Pakistan where he lived with his family.
Sane man in an insane world: Ignorance is bliss isn't it...
Afghans are lunitics.....period.
To "Sane" man: whatever. *Rolls Eyes*
To glenndala: agreed. We can't force these barbarians to get up to the FIRST century, never mind twenty-first. We're fools for even trying.
@serenity-1238411 - the gall to call out religious fundamentalists from all branches of the Abrahamic tradition as basically being the same? They are, read your OT, that is the basis of the laws the religious right ("Christians") wants to impose on us here. It took until the 80s before it was illegal for a man to rape his wife as, thanks to your "good Christian" society, a woman was expected to submit to her husband and just being married was considered tacit consent to anything he wanted to to do her. Women are subordinate chattle to religious fundamentalists and not just those of the Muslim variety. The fact that we don't yet see the level and prevalence of physical violence from the Christian fundamentalists yet, does not mean it won't escalate as their rhetoric and demands already match the sharia law they want implemented as biblical law.
At least there's no debate about free birth control in Afghanistan. They have it. It's called "family".
Yes, it is difficult to try to draw comparisons between the oppression and abusive "laws" and traditions in Afghanistan and the constant push on the rights of women here in the U.S. of A.
The fact that we are farther down the road on absolute equality is great, but let's go all the way before we celebrate too much.
And let's not stop there. To only parlay for "women's rights" stops short of what we need women to do. What we really need is a world-wide rebellion of male oppression AND CONTROL. We need to get these chest-thumping self-serving "cowboys" out of power where ever they may be. I suspect a women's world-wide "absolute" sharing of power might knock some sense into these idiots and calm things down a bit.
I wonder. If you did a study that compared a country's aggression and with the lack of women's rights in that country would you find a correlation? My bet is that you would.
As a proud male I am a willing advocate for moving to absolute equality on rights and power and control for women... it might keep our out-of-control male aggression in check a little... damn it!
I agree with you! What you're talking about is cultural imperiaism and the USA loves it. We constantly point the finger at "other" countries and claim they are wrong/evil/strange/etc. and yet we never take a look at ourselves. We think setting aqnother person on fire is horrifying, they see it as no different or more horrifying as someone in the US killing another with a gun (Trayvon Martin, anyone?), the difference is that in the US guns are readily available, in Afghanistan they are not, but kerosene and matches are.
I also think circumcision is genital mutilation. Another example of our imperialism and self-righteousness. We say, oh female genital mutilation in Africa is so tragic! Now lets go cut the baby... Just because our procedure takes place in a hospital under anesthesia doesn't make it any more "civilized" but Americans have tricked themselves into thinking so. Should I ever have a son, I will never do such a thing. If he wants to take a knife to his package, he can choose to when he's older.
At least they don't have to wear burqa in prison, that is an advancement. What I don't understand is if they control their women so much, how they have prostitutes? Even prostitutes have a Muslim conservative family.
Many people would consider the US to be a "Christian" nation, if it isn't officially. Look at some of the laws that have come close to passing, such as trans-vaginal ultrasound for women in VA seeking abortions. State-sanctioned rape isn't much, if any, better than the Taliban.
So we have replaced an unstable country that produces intolerant terrorists and treats women like @!$%# with an unstable country that treats women like @!$%#. Aww the legacy of Bush, never seems to end.
Your talking about the USA right?
When it is all said and done with the USA will have women pigeon holed into the same exact position that they basically are in the middle eastern countries!! As so many conservatives will tell you "women simply cannot be trusted with their own bodies to make wholesome christian decisions and that is why we need the government and people with solid morals as well as christian beliefs to make their decisions for them when it comes to important issues such as contraception, pregnancy, abortion, working, communicating with other males other than their husband or assigned guardian and knowing when they have crossed the line with questioning their husbands or ANY MALE figure on any decisions they have made, regardless of what kind of impact it could/will have on females"!!!!
So I guess that the US is years behind Karzi and the rest of the world when it comes to putting women in their place!!
I wasn't aware that George Bush was still President of the United States. Exactly how long does President Obama get a pass in your book? Bush may have gotten us into this war, but Obama has been the Commander-in-Chief for more than 3 years. Qurans weren't burned and 17 innocents slaughtered on Bush's watch.
Obama has already ended one war and is trying to get us out of the other by 2013 or 14, both were campaign promises he's been keeping.
He's an Awesome President, best we've had in years, that's why right-wing religious nuts hate him. He is being accused by conservatives of being the worst President, that is all the proof you need he's the best :)
Say what? Oh yes, I forgot. The endless blabber of "BLAME BUSH" at work. Perhaps Bush is also responsible for the treatment of Muslim women. Well, why not? Makes as much sense as your statement.
joemike404 -- Bush gets the blame for Afghanistan. As for why there weren't real problems until now was that Afghanistan was short staffed while Iraq was on the front burner. Now that Iraq is on the back burner, Afghanistan has seen a surge in troops (many of these men and women have seen way too many tours in war zones). If Obama can manage to get the U.S. out of Afghanistan, then he'll get the credit for bringing the troops home. I'm not going to say "win the war" because this was never an official "war." It wasn't even a "police action." Bring the troops home now. Let them fight each other. I bet the Afghan Prez has been stock piling US weapons for when we leave.
@Domewars
Actually, not Bush. He hasn't been in control for 3 years now. Try blaming the current incompetent Commander in Chief you help elect that does nothing but placate to Muslims over there...
Domewars
You are clueless!!!
I think Obama ordered the surge. He could have pulled everyone out. It's the system remember, not the man.
He did reference the Bush 'legacy.' A legacy, by definition, is something that is handed down after the person who started it is no longer involved.
Rather than bickering about who "got us in there" we would be better served coming together and DEMANDING we get OUT.
These primitive goons live in the stone age. Let them stay there.
Insane guy. First of all your name fits you. Bush signed all the agreements in Iraq to pull the troops out before Obama took office. We wanted to maintain a troop level to provide training ad support to the Irraq Security Forces. Sorry too Say the worst president of the US could not get that job done and we were tossed out without a supporting troop roll.
"Meet the new boss, same as the old boss..."
These people are beyond reproach with that being said, pulling our troops out it isn't as easy as simply going home, we went to Afghanistan to topple the Taliban because they promoted a "terrorist rich environment" by condoning and allowing the groups to thrive inside their borders. Now that the roaches have been scattered it’s only a matter of us turning the lights off and going to bed before they come out of their caves and they are simply waiting for us to do just that.
What the International Community and NATO have decided unilaterally to do is to allow the Afghan government to become stronger and the security forces to be put in place to stave off further Taliban activity once we’ve gone. Otherwise we’ll be back at it once again shortly after we’ve left.
I for one think that it doesn’t matter; these people will always be at war with themselves and once we've gone all hell will break lose. The Taliban have already infiltrated the security forces.
We just need to ensure that they don’t allow it to come to our borders any more.
Too bad all the women can't leave the country and let the Afghanistan men have their way with only donkeys, goats and each other. Oh, what a beautiful world that would be.
Bush II has been out of office for a short time but his actions will never go away, it is part of our bad history. Just like Hoover's first depression Bush II's depression hurt a lot of people and still does. A bitter pill also is the wealth gap he expanded. As he strived to make America more like India with a two class system, rich and poor he also polarazied Americans into hating each other. Nice legacy.
For all those who think Obama should take some blame in his short 3 years then why didn't they blame Bush II when he failed to get us out of Iraq, Afghanistan, fix the recession, balance the budget and stop his wild spending spree that started this gigantic deficit when he inherited a balanced budget and method to pay down the national debt from Clinton in three years?
Can't believe the Republicans invaded a country that believes like they do. Mistreating women, no taxes, no health care, poor infrastructure, no EPA, unlimited guns, etc.
brian, Bush never had any intentions of leaving Iraq as long as there was oil to be had and a place for Halliburton to make money for Cheney.
http://thecable.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2011/11/02/condoleezza_rice_we_never_expected_to_leave_iraq_in_2011
The Afghan government of Karzai has little control within the capitol of Kabul and virtually no control in the provinces. The provinces are ruled by tribal leaders and warlords. As soon as the US leaves, the central government will collapse completely. There will be a period of total anarchy until either the Taliban again takes control or Pakistan moves in. The most likely scenario is that the Taliban will once again gain control by either intimidating or bribing enough of the tribal leaders and warlords to back them, or at least not fight them. It does not matter whether the US remains in Afghanistan for 6 months or 6 years, the outcome will be the same. The culture of the country is not one that is going to support a workable central government that can maintain control and enforce laws throughout the country. The society is far too tribal and the different tribes each have their own traditions that drive their laws. The only type of government that would have any hope of keeping control would be one that ruled by force and kept control through oppression and intimidation of the people and the tribal leaders. There is just no way a democratic government based on the rights of the individual is going to survive in this part of the world.
We might as well just cut our losses and pull all of our troops out now. Nothing that we do is going to change the reality on the ground that this is a tribal culture that still lives by the same laws and traditions they have since about the 7th century. There is no point in risking any more American lives in this losing battle against the ignorant, backward culture of Afghanistan.
It does no good for ANYONE's argument to plaster Bush about women's abuse in Afghanistan... if anything, Bush's intent was to bring Afghanistan into the current century which would include women's rights. But nor is this Obama's "fault".
This IS something, however, that we should NOW fight with every arsenal short of physical weapons by making women's rights and equal rights in general in the forefront of every agreement and every support commitment we make. We should be yelling no less loudly here about this as we do about abuses of citizens in Syria or anywhere else.
We need to step up to our A game with respect to putting constant and serious pressure on equal rights across the board... you think maybe that's something we could all agree to and get behind... together?
JS in SD
Good post... I agree across the board.
It's really a terrible thing that we continually convince ourselves "going in" that we can impose our way of thinking, acting, and governing on occupied countries when there are always so many fundamental differences. And Afghanistan may have more differences with us than any other country on earth!
So if Obama gets credit for Bush's timetable with Iraq, does that mean our next President gets credit for whatever Obama sets in motion before he is booted out of the White House? I bet we still hear "it's Bush's fault" when Obama fails to get us out of Afghanistan before he loses the Presidency.
just need to split the country up into a few different areas. One for rational ppl and one for the backwards ones. We leave the backwards zone alone like a nature preserve and provide some assistance to the rational one. Eventually the backwards one will attempt to overtake the rational society through war then we can go light them up because it will be easy to see whos the enemy and who is not. Provide different areas and quarantine and we do not have to worrie about colleteral damage.
Sort of like Red states, Blue states?
At least they don't have to wear burqa in prison, that is an advancement. What I don't understand is if they control their women so much, how they have prostitutes? Even prostitutes have a Muslim conservative family.
BTW Sane man, I feel for your suffering but I also think yall @!$%#ed up in the head too.
Domewars..You are the pot calling the kettle black. Your head is up your arse.
What are we doing in this crazy country??? Get out of Afganistan immediately and shoot Karzi on the way. Afganistan can rot as far as I care. We have NO business there no matter what the LYING POLITICANS say. The military is there for billionares, not for America, not for freedom or democracy...just money.
I am just curious. Who is making money on Afghanistan? Really? the tax-payers are losing tons of money and I just don't know who is gaining anything by it. The Afghans hate our guts and this is an unpopular war. I have this feeling that Obama is planning to go to war with Iraq. He is signing executive orders which are a preparation for war. If we think Afghanistan is bad, Iraq will be a real killer. OBTW, our young men will start getting drafted, because he signed an executive order (done deal) to stop the volunteer army we have now and start drafting young men. This is only implemented in a time of war. Google it if you don't believe me.
serenity...are you kidding me? Who makes money off these wars??
You need to check your politicians investment portfolios. They are making money hand over fist with this war! They have access to investments that skyrocket due to the war (machinery and supplies). You and I do not have the same access. Yes, politicians from BOTH sides are raking in millions. Seriously.
And yes, at taxpayers expense.
Just to help you see things in a slightly different light about just WHO profits from this war:
http://rinf.com/alt-news/war-terrorism/151-congressmen-profit-from-war/3283/
Don't believe me..just read it.
That I agree with you 100%.
I feel extremely sorry for these women, but sadly to say, not sorry enough to put my son's life on the line to change a primitive culture based on tribal male dominant ignorance. Bring our boys home. May the women of Afghanistan rise up some day to turn the tide these fanatical inbred tribal males who inhabit that area. The barbarism they impose on their children and women is not condoned by the true Muslims of the world.
Hilda...B.S. it is ingrained in their culture and religion. These fools still live in the 1500's. It is not up to us to try and change them..Let them butcher each other, that is what they do best. They are sub human.
Sorry there Bobl, but right-wing conservatives in the US just passed laws forcing vaginal exams on women who want to get health care about their vaginas.
So for the crime of having a vagina in America and wanting to talk about it to your doctor you have to let the doctor rape you first, but we are totally respectful of women over here.
God bless the good old Christian USA :)
In case you haven't been paying attention, the right-wng conservatives in America are so pissed that they can't own black people anymore or buy and own their wife's like property they have lost their minds. The idea that women are free to vote and have lives and be free infuriate them.
Christians hate one thing above all else: freedom. America is just like Afghanistan, the people who want to live a free life and be free are in a fight with right-wing conservative who can't stand the idea of freedom.
We need to tolerate other religions, but some things a christian can't stand (a true Christian that is) is discrimination! Far too many Hippocrates out there!
Ask 1000 Christians tomorrow on the street to tell you Gods ten commandments and not one of them knows what they are.
Being gay, having sex before marriage, masturbation, none of these things made Gods top ten list by the way.
Almost every Christian you'll ever meet is a fake Christian, they are just being controlled and brainwashed by the corporation in control of the Christian religion, they are not actual Christians, they just think they are. And as long as they keep giving the church money and voting like they tell them, they will never know.
Sorry Sane man in an insane world but your title should be Insane man in a semi-sane world. Where the heck do you get your dumb ideas?
What is really crazy is that people are liking Sane man in an insane world's comments. He is just spouting off all kinds of crazy. That's scary.
To the "Insane Man in a Sane World", The seventh commandment is "Thou shall not commit adultery". So it did make God's top-ten list. Get a bible and read Exodus 20:20. And adultery is defined as breaking the marriage promise by having sexual relations with someone other than your spouse.
However, this may have an unintended positive result in that fewer women will see gynecologists.
So-called "pelvic exam" causes damage. I haven't had one in 40 years, and my "pelvis" works just fine, thank you. There are non-invasive tests for possible cancer--they just cost more. On the other hand, after you pass menopause you get the money back by not having to buy adult diapers because your bladder muscles were destroyed from multiple pelvic exams.
Or... both men and women could organize and DEMAND that all citizens of the U.S. be provided state-of-the-art medical care NOW and that zero barbaric practices are tolerated. Our taxes more than cover the costs if our money was used responsibly and honestly, and medical tourism would make even more money for the country.
I'm sorry for Afghan women, but I want my taxes to be spent on quality-of-life for Americans. There are some things in this world that money should not enter into, and health care is one of them. We have the technology and there is no excuse for anyone to be sick because they don't have enough money to pay for health care.
Education is another. Idiot fools complaining about welfare-recipients. Half those people were raised by bums and never had a chance to get a decent high school education, let alone go to college.
A third is child care. Between rent and child care--forget health insurance--a single woman has to earn over $15,000 per year BEFORE she even thinks to put food on the table, pay the utilities, or buy gasoline for the car she can't afford to own. And yet men are often paid more for the same job, hidden by the fact that he is given a different title.
We don't live in the world of the 1950's. Demanding quality-of-life for our citizens is NOT socialism. The politicians want you to think like that so you won't demand our tax dollars be spent on US instead of THEM.
So let me get this straight. You don't think a Doctor should examine someone who wants treatment? Or maybe the Doctors should examine a woman's eyes if she needs treatment for her reproductive organs.
What would you say if you went to a Doctor for hemorrhoids and he checked your ears?
Sane man's Dr. checks his b-u-t-t-h-o-l-e for brain waves.
You can make that sound really silly, but millions of unnecessary pelvic exams are conducted on women. Most women over the age of 30 can easily self-diagnose AND self-treat the most common problems--for example, yeast infections and UTI. For UTI, a $7 natural medicine you can buy at most health food stores works immediately, thoroughly, and without side effects on even very severe infections, but the AMA and Big Pharma would rather over-prescribe strong antibiotics than admit a competing system of medicine works better than their toxic crap.
In the meantime, pelvic exams are physically and psychologically uncomfortable for most women, and can damage the body over time.
Sane man in an insane world - the small clips of skin you folks had cut off of you teeny baby weeny was probably customary and may have lacked logic at the time it was done, however, lucky for you and your still teeny little weeny, there is solid medical research in recent years which clearly point out the benefit of circumcision for preventing the spread of disease and even cancer (and I'm not talking about abnormal sex or with multiple partners). So, say thanks for the healthy teeny weeny Mom and Dad. You did it for the wrong reason, but it still works and I'm healthy. (You are healthy aren't you?)
HA HA HA, I love it when insane Christians defend their nutty mutilation of genitals with SCIENCE.
You spend all your life rejecting science, except when science says something that might defend you, then you embrace it, the bible has a word for people like you: hypocrites.
Answer me this genius:
Q: the bible says God made man from the Ground of the earth, right? Evolution is the idea that man was made from the ground of the earth, right? How come you think it's okay to fix my incorrectly made penis but don't believe in evolution even thought the bible says that's how God made man?
A: (you can put your ignorant brainwashed answer here, and don't forget to blame Obama)
O yea, here's a CRAZY IDEA: lets just educate people in school about their sex organs and we won't have to mutilate them.
Hilda, there is little science that supports the notion that circumcision is more effective than soap and water at preventing the transmission of disease from an uncircumcised penis.
Don't bother Joe, it's not like she got any sex education in an American school anyways. That's the American way, lets cut of some skin from our kids penises so we don't have to teach them how to wash it correctly.
Dude, I can't tell if your angry about your penis or politics.
For someone who claims that Christians only think about penises and vaginas, he sure does post a lot about penises and vaginas. He must be a really devout Christian.
@Sane man... If you want to blame anyone for you penis problems, blame them on your parents.
jr-
LOL
The two do seem to get confused in the minds of certain men. Perhaps he should become a politician.
Bobl - I am not disagreeing that it is ingrained in their culture and the way they interpret their religion (I mean look at the different ways people interpret Christianity -moderate to radical!). I just want my son out of there, because we are not the ones who can change things in Afghanistan (as you said). Still, I feel sorry for the children and women there and have to disagree with you about them being sub human. But we agree on many things.
I agree all you Christians are as crazy as all the Muslims, and you all have penises and vaginas on the brain.
You should say hi to your vagina once and a while Hilda, unless the invisible God daddy man in the sky will get mad at you that is.
I'd post more tonite but I have a big day tomorrow, I'm praying to the flying spaghetti monster and he likes me to make sure I get enough sleep beforehand. He's got too much sauce on him for my taste, but at least he doesn't rape my children in the back of the church :)
Sane - the school bus is outside, time to close the computer and get to class. When you graduate from middle school give us a call.
When you Joe realize that Obama is not a bad guy just cause he wants to give people health care (and just because his dad was black) I'll call ya.
I wonder if 'Sane' man lives on the west coast...looks like his posts are all right around the time the bars close.
So-called Sane Man--
Back off, buddy. You want to rant about your penis, that's fine, but shut your Limbaugh mouth regarding women who post their opinions.
Sane man in an insane world, you're suspended for a month for violating #1 and #5 of the Code of Honor.
Sane man in an insane world - I'm not Christian, I'm Jewish. But I'm also a nurse and know more than you about the research on this. Sorry to burst your "know it all....got so smart" on the Internet bubble, but it's just a medical fact. Why do you find it OK for you to clip your incorrectly made toe nails and fingernails or cut that incorrectly made facial hair (and pardon me for assuming if you don't do those things)? I don't know what God thinks, but we were given brains to help us figure things out so we can take care of ourselves.
O. I'm sorry, you belong to the crazy religion that spawned the other two insane religions, my mistake, you must be completely sane.
Make sure you get your ass to the back of the bus there woman, you know how Jewish men feel about riding buses with women, I'm sure you made a good job of violating your son's body and private space when you mutilated his genitals (all for science of course)
And now what's he doing: killing innocent Muslin women and children, but I'm crazy hu? And your the sane one...
Very well put, Hilda. Unfortunately, the ignorant outnumber the learned on these forums. It is a losing battle to educate here. :)
Hilda get back to discussing the article instead of using this forum to angrily defend your religions misguided notion that genital mutilation is ok, let alone necessary .....and before you wave it shove your nurses degree and medical evidence ...there are more and more doctors and nurses and in a lot of countries, hospitals, that refuse to be involved in this barbaric procedure....
@athome-1501447 if you are a man and aren't circumcised you best make sure you never get diabetes (because you will be told circumcision is medically warranted to avoid some very serious medical complications). If you think circumcision of a newborn is barbaric, just wait until you feel what it's like for an older child or adult to have it performed. Some of us with family medical histories of diabetes/peripheral vascular disease feel it's kinder to circumcise prophylactically during infancy (which has a much easier recovery & has considerably less rick thus significantly increasing the risk:benefit ration than having our children or adult sons have to go under a general for a pretty significant operation that is made even risker if they already have a co-morbidity like diabetes)
SAICS, a family history of diabetes may be a special case - or it may not. When diabetes is properly controlled, circumcision is not necessary. And a family history is not a guarantee of diabetes. Factor that in before you talk of risk/benefit ratios. The claim that adult circumcision is more risky than infant is folklore - any mistake on a baby's tiny body is magnified in adulthood. But people seem determined to attack the baby boy's genitals for any reason or none (just as they do the girls in places like Afhganistan - the parallels are alarming).
The talk of bombing them back to the stone age during the war was disingenuous as they were there already. The whole culture is screwed up and is a prime example of why men should never be exclusively left in charge. They deserve the Taliban and the continuous wars. They refuse to evolve.
Hasidic jews are really wierd too...........
All right wing conservative religious lunatics are the same kind of crazy...
Hitler was a wight-wing conservative Roman Catholic who was very religious. Ask the average American Christian what religion Hitler was and they will answer he was an Atheist :) :) :)
Sane, not all people do things because of their religion. Hitler may have been born and raised as a Roman Catholic, but that doesn't mean that his actions were because he was Catholic. He was also a narcissistic sociopath which is the reason for his actions. An NO, being raised as a Catholic did NOT make him a narcissistic sociopath, he just was.
Yea, sending his Nazi's traveling all over the world looking for religious artifacts, trying to create a new Nordic and Christian religion and trying to kill all the Jews in Europe had nothing to do with him being Roman Catholic.
You must have been top of your history class.
Sane man is nothing more than a lowlife, pathetic, needy loser. How dare you take a story about abused women and turn it into about you and your hatred of others. You are no better than the Taliban when it comes to spreading misinformation and sensationalized, incendiary rhetoric. Congrats on reducing any discussion about this into your personal hate fest. You are a true infantile punk.
Please retreat back into the diseased filled cesspool you crawled out of and let the humans have a meaningful discussion. Same for all the haters who like your posts.
The Problem is that Afgan Men like to have sex with little boys! That is a true fact from military vets whom have been there! They are sick bastards!
Then they should come to America and become Christian priests, problem solved :)
Maybe they should rename Afghanistan and call it, "Duh" so western countries can easier understand its internal moral structure.
Duh sounds to much like dick which can be confused with a penis, so we can't teach kids that word here in America, cause we're so sane over here about religion and they are so crazy over there.
Good night boys.I hope this has been has been therapeutic for all you. Much better to get these strong emotions out by pounding on a keyboard than getting drunk or spaced out on drugs. Have a good sleep and I hope you feel better tomorrow.
Awww thanks media for the heart felt sorry...
I will file this in the Who gives a $hit file next to the Nobody gives a flying carpet Fuq file beside,,bad things happen in a third world country we know this. If you want to write a story pick Mexico where they actually kill people closer to home.
What a reprehensible country! The men are obviously demented animals! It seems the men there will never change, abusing women because they hate females.....what dishonor the men bring to themselves! Yes, the Taliban are such nice men!
Obama does'nt interfere with this because he is muslim and must agree with it.
Sane Man huh? One thing that an insane person is sure of is that they are the only sane person. You think with your penis and you obviously have your head up your a@#. You claim no scientific proof for the benefits of circumcision when in fact it does help more then soap and water to prevent illness except in your case. Obviously it made you Christianphobic. It did not mutilate you or fix your penis because you have to have one first, and I do not mean the one you keep on your mantle so you can see what men have. Please volunteer to help yourself by jumping in a lake with an anvil and end your suffering you poor demented thing.
Milgram, I am hoping the moderators of this vine log on soon, and suspend Sane Man's priviledges for at least a week.
Please read the book "A thousand splendid suns" written by an Afghan named Khalil Housseini. This is an excellent piece. A more misogynistic culture would be hard to find. My only regret to leaving Afghanistan would be leaving the women to the Afghan men whose morals are perverse and irretrievably corrupt. Unfortunately, the only remedy would be to wipe out the men. It is regrettable that we gave those women a taste of dignity only to have them slide back into the sewer that is Afghanistan.
Obama is a Christian. There are people who will never believe it but it is the truth. There are none so blind as those who WILL NOT see. Obama made certain we killed Osama and he is getting us out of there as quickly as is possible. This war was started with the intention to get the person responsible for 911, guess who failed at that! We are extremely fortunate our President is so level headed and unflappable. Obama in 2012!
Keep drinking the Kool Aide. The war in Afghanistan has been a debacle since Obama and Panetta took it over. OBL was insignificant and Obama was on the receiving end of the Bush Policies to get OBL.
Brian: it's you who are drinking the FAUX news kool-aid. Did you conviently forget that Bush pulled troops out of Afganistan to invade Iraq. Did you forget that Bush/Cheney shortchanged the supply to our troops in Afganistan because they had to send all the equipment to Iraq? Did you forget that Bush/Cheney sent our troops into battle with the WRONG equipment. Remember the Hummers w/o undercarriage protection? And then he went home to Texas and the worst war crimminal in our history got a new heart????
This probably makes Republican State Senator Don Pridemore (Wisconsin) very proud. If he had his way women would stay with their abuser and just "remember why you married him in the first place". You think the GOP wouldn't like to see this happening right here in the US? Think again!
"The victim is the criminal" is the view that moral cowards often take. People with that view are complicit with the real criminals.
We need to pull all of our troops out of there. We also need to stop financing/funding their government. The only way to change these people is to force them to change; and that is just as wrong! The best solution is to leave there and concentrate on our own problems.
I don"t care what horrible people do to their own people. They have had thousands of years to evolve. As long as it doesn't spread here. Leave them alone to their own demise.
Let me guess, you voted for Mussolini............weren't your people liberated by Americans? An Italian from New Jersey - go figure! If we took the same nonchalant view as you do, New Jersey would still be a Fascist state (with Corzine and his "winners", maybe it still is/was more recently than any of us thought). Dumba$$ comment from a Garden State "warrior".
You must not know anything about Rick Santorum, huh?
the immoral criminals are the taliban and other narrowminded brainwashed and brainwashing people in leadership positions.
they are trying to impose their own twisted version of so called islam, when in reality, it is nowhere near being islam.
these people just want to have some type of authority and leadership positions in a government that is founded on lies, and truly blasphemous of the religion they profess to be abiding by...
they are a disgrace to islam, and to any religion, especially the three abrahamic religions, judaism, christianinty, and islam.
