Mohamed Merah, the gunman who killed seven people including three Jewish children, may have been an informant for France's intelligence services, according to reports that raise further questions about whether authorities missed chances to prevent the attacks.
The 23-year-old, who is a French citizen of Algerian origin, shot dead three Muslim soldiers as well as three children and a rabbi at a Jewish school before being slain by police commandos at the end of a 32-hour standoff in an apartment in Toulouse.
It later emerged Merah had traveled to Afghanistan and Israel in 2010 and had been interviewed in November 2011 by the domestic intelligence agency Direction Centrale du Renseignement Intérieur (DCRI).
Bernard Squarcini, head of the agency, was quoted by French newspaper Le Monde as saying Merah asked for a local DCRI agent by name while he was holed-up in the apartment surrounded by police.

Squarcini told Le Monde that Merah shocked the female agent by saying: "Anyway, I was going to call you to say I had some tip-offs for you, but actually I was going to [kill] you.”
Merah, who told police he had been inspired to commit his attacks by al-Qaida, used the French word "fumer", which means "to smoke," which is a slang term that also means to "murder" or "waste."
Squarcini’s remarks to Le Monde were reported in other French media, including Liberation and Le Figaro.
'Not trivial'
Yves Bonnet, former head of an intelligence agency that was merged with DCRI in 2008, told Toulouse newspaper La Dépêche du Midi that it was significant that Merah appeared to have a regular contact at the DCRI. “Having a contact is not totally innocent,” he told the newspaper. “This is not trivial.”
Italian newspaper Il Foglio said Merah’s trip to Israel and Afghanistan in September 2010 was made with the knowledge of the French foreign secret service, the Direction Générale de la Sécurité Extérieure. However, London's Independent newspaper quoted a spokesman for the agency as dismissing that report as "grotesque".
Squarcini has since insisted Merah was not helping authorities, telling Liberation the gunman was not "an informer for the DCRI or any other French or foreign services."
Meanwhile, Merah’s body will be flown to Algeria on Thursday if the country agrees to receive it, an official at one of the biggest mosques in Paris told Reuters.
Abdallah Zekri said Merah's body was being kept at a hospital in Toulouse while Algerian authorities decided whether they were willing to receive it. French media had reported that Merah's father had requested burial in Algeria.
On Tuesday, Merah's father, Mohamed Benalen Merah, lashed out at French authorities for killing his son. The elder Merah, who lives in Algeria, had earlier said he wanted to sue France.
"France is a powerful country with huge resources," Merah told France 24 television. "They could have taken him while he slept. They could have used a sleep-inducing gas and taken him like a baby. Why were they so hasty? Why did they kill him?"
"They could have arrested him and had him face justice," he added.
However, the BBC said French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe responded: "If I were the father of such a monster, I would shut my mouth in shame.”

Sorry to say, but it seems that a few too many of the relatives of Islamic murderers feel an overwhelming sense of entitlement to sorrow for their captured or killed kin. Somehow, killing kids in school and ramming planes into buildings are feats to be proud of, according to their "religious playbook".
The French police, soldiers, and government conducted themselves with the utmost professionalism, going so far as to offer to send the idiot's body back to Algeria for burial. If it were me, I'd drop him off at the nearest trash dump.
They are merely acting like familiy members of someone who was killed. It's only natural that they would have those feelings. What the guy did was wrong on every count but don't begrudge his family members for feeling the way that they do.

The State of Algeria did the right thing in refusing to allow the body of Mohamed Merah to be buried in Algeria-they do not want his grave there. Of note is the fact that Merah's father in the same interview (verbaim in focus.de) also stated that Mohamed Merah had an Algerian passport and was registered with the Algerian Consulate in Toulouse,France since his birth (dual citizen). Merah was a criminal (15 juvenile cases),incarcerated for violent robbery, a recipient of social benefits- yet committing crimes (burgalaries, thefts,illegal activities etc) He was supposed to start serving his jail; sentence in April for 1 (one)month for driving w/o license. His father abandoned the family when he was six (6)yrs old. He was a career criminal turned terror aficienado and emulator- what is of interest is what did his Algerian Passport stamps indicate? He had so many weapons he could not have purchased with his own monies. Merah entered the State of Israel at the Allenby Bridge (meaning from Jordan) going to West Bank. While in Afgh/Pak border area he contracted Hepatitis A. Note also that the same Hebrew School in Toulouse is getting a lot of hate mail and threats (three kids and a rabbi were killed execution style by Merah and filmed)yet the hordes of Merah excusers blame the victims of the grisly murders.

The difference here is that islam commands muslims to kill (murder) non muslims! The example you give about christians killling, raping etc. is incorrect in many ways. Anybody claiming to be a christian who kills, steals, rapes etc. is not a christian. They are liars, criminals etc. These people only pretend to be christians! As an example, scriptures states that stealing is a crime and must be punished. Raping somebody in God's eyes is a capital crime which means that the rapist deserves death for what he did. Get it yet?
Anybody can call themselves a christian. It's how you live your life that proves who you are. You won't find a single verse in the bible that says, "it's ok to steal...", or, "if you rape somebody just say sorry..".

The word "jihad" actually stems from the arabic root word J-H-D. That word simply means "to strive". I am 33 years old, and have been a muslim all my life (proudly) and have never felt an iota of violence towards even a mere ant. All life has value. That is what we believe in. If muslims really are they way media so aggresively attempting to potray them, this world would have ended a LONG time ago. If muslims really are against peace in the world then i'd say we really missed a golden chance to rid the world of non-muslims.
Muslims' rule in Indian Subcontinent.
My ancestors ruled the indian subcontinent for 700 years. I am a mughal, and all hindustanis can vouch for the kind and glorious 700 years those had been under a just muslim rule. 700 years was enough time to cleanse the indian subcontinent of non-muslims but we did not do that, because that is not who were are. When moors ruled in europe for 700 years, they had enough time to eardicate the infidels, cleanse Europe of non-muslims, did they do that? NO! they did not! they lived in harmony with other religions. Other religions were even allowed to follow their religious teachings freely. Contributions of Muslim to the World we live in:
The Moors had contributed tremendously to Spain and other European regions through the knowledge they spread between the early 700s and the late 1400s. They had brought along with them knowledge of science, medicine and mathematics, and also constructed important centers for the people such as mosques, hospitals
and libraries that transformed Spain from what it was.
Arabian scientists were some of the earliest to bring knowledge into Spain. Astronomy was also one of the subjects on which they focused, and it is a science well studied by the Arabs of those days because they could use the stars to determine direction. It was due to all this intellectual influence in and around this period that Universities began to spring up. The result of this was a strong regard for education, and so, knowledge began to blossom (Ghiles, 1983).
Through the years 827 to 1091 AD Islam spread to Spain, Sicily, North Africa, Syria, Palestine and South East Asia. The Shiites sects as well as the Sunni sects had been responsible for the establishment of the social cultures in these areas. With the advent of the Crusaders, the region of Palestine and Israel became divided and so has the social relationships between the different religions (A Concise History of Islam and the Arabs 2004).
During the Arab influence in Spain and other parts of Europe, Christians and
Muslims sometimes managed to live side by side. However, there were conflicts
that arose. In addition to this, similar sentiments existed between the Jews and
Muslims. When there was peace in the region, it resulted in science and arts
flourishing, which was typically the case.
Hostilities were not rampant everywhere, and as a result the presence of the Moors brought significant development to the people there. It is because of peace prevailing among the inhabitants of Spain that it was the brightest part of Europe. By the word ‘brightest’, it means that a large part of Europe was sunk in darkness. This darkness was in the form of ignorance that was caused largely by conflict. Had Muslims, Christians and Jews in these parts along with other warring factions made peace, they too would have benefited the way that Spain did (Carew, 1992, 248-77).
During the Moorish period in Spain, Poet-King Mu-Tamid had succeeded in establishing an assembly of several great intellectuals. The most famous Arab poetry as well was recorded during this period. The caliph had to flee from Syria for Toledo in 750, resulting in the center of the Islamic world being transported to Spain. Further, the result of this change was that there was an increased presence of Moors in the peninsula. This increase in the number of these people meant that there was construction of beautiful palaces, mosques, and fortresses (Carew, 1992, 248-77).

Ha! Taqiyya! I was raised Muslim by an Arab father (who spoke Arabic, by the way), going to the mosque weekly, around many other Muslims including the Imam of our masjid and I still learned the word taqiyya from PAMELA GELLER when I was 30 something! I'm still not quite sure what it means and I have no clue as to where she (and you) got the term. And to the RACIST who posted his "facts" about Islam and the Quran...ummm, I must be the worst Muslim ever because I haven't killed any non-Muslims. Muslims don't spread Islam by the sword. We spread Islam through our actions and deeds. Jihad is wearing the scarf or having open conversations with others about Islam. Any country where Islam invades, the standards of living and human rights go down. Simple facts - before Islam took hold, the Arab world was the center of learning and science, now? Government and beliefs are locked in the dark ages. How many scientific advances out of Saudi Arabia with all their oil dollars? How many Nobel prizes out of Israel?
Basic beliefs: the Judeo-Christian Bible is a collection of writings from many people, developed across a period of hundreds or thousands of years, yet it is cohesive in its teachings: God loves all the world, and wishes the world peace and love. His teaching: any thing is acceptable when dealing with a non-believer, and non believers are sub humans to be enslaved or killed if they will not accept domination. End enticement: his god hates people so much that if a follower kills an innocent non-believer, he will be taken to "heaven" where he will live an eternity of debauchery. This is turning a benevolent God into a figure of a pimp: procuring virgins for his "johns", putting a hit on people he does not like. Somehow, that takes the image from being a supreme, good deity to being a powerful force for evil. Still one deity, but in a negative direction.

The true fraud of Islam is that Allah will reward those who have been good---not because they were inherently inclined to be righteous, but rather because they were mortally afraid of being bad. Any god, such as Allah, who desires an association with individuals who lack natural decency is truly a cretin. Within Islam, physical control over adherents is attained through mind control. One cannot even renounce Islam without being marked for death. Any religion that obtains converts under threat of death (Mohammad was famous for this tactic), and murders those who refuse to convert or who defect from the faith is bound to have a growing number of adherents. After a generation of two, time dims the memory of the barbaric and psychopathic acts committed against the forefathers, and brainwashing transforms the progeny of the forced converts into true believers who are willing to die for the fraudulent faith. Any Muslim believer who comes to accept the Quran as the literal spoken word of Allah is likely to become a terrorist because, realistically, the Quran is a terrorist handbook. I have first-hand knowledge of that fact, as I have read it in both Arabic and English. I believe that for those having an open mind, that characterization is indisputable.

For example. In retrospect, the Crusades probably allowed the western world a thousand years of freedom from the diabolical islamic religion. The crusaders stopped the expansion of the Islamic empire. This allowed Christianity to prosper in Europe which preserved the gospel for the rest of the world to receive.
The Crusades were a reaction to the muslim crusades against the entire world.
In the 7th century, the muslims took control of Jerusalem, and in the 11th century they began to hassle, kill, molest Christian pilgrims in the Jerusalem area. The muslim Turks even attacked Rome and Belgrade in 1456 A.D. The crusades were also in response to the cries of help from the eastern Byzantine Empire, which was very worried about the military threat to it from the Seljuk Turks. So if the Christians did not respond, the muslims would have conquered all of Europe and wiped out Christianity from the planet. Did this have any significance to Osama bin Laden's sick mind? The muslim high point in Europe ended when they were turned back from Vienna on September 11, 1683 A.D.
SPAIN UNDER THE MOORS

I've never commented on a news story before but I feel compelled today. Really??? Exterminate all Muslims?? I am baffled and hurt by the fact that racism and bigotry against Muslims is acceptable. Make no mistake, if you are making generalized negative statements about a group of people and/or calling for their extermination, segregation, etc...you are a RACIST. You are on par with a member of the KKK. Instead of "Muslim", insert "black" or "Jew"...that makes it unacceptable and so should using the word "Muslim" in your RACIST comments.
As a Muslim woman, I am so disgusted and hurt by the comments I read on these stories. You are attacking my family and my culture and lifestyle. It is unwarranted and unjust that you would lump my family in with Mehar, etc and their actions. We are individuals. We aren't al-Qaida. We aren't Gaddafi. We aren't Khomeni. To hold me accountable for their actions is, really, unfathomable. Then to say we should ALL be exterminated??? That's painful and dangerous.

I don't know why I torture myself by reading the comments. Sometimes, I guess, I still don't believe that people act and speak that way. Obviously he had no vendetta against Jews. After killing a couple fellow muslim-(what they are best at doing 'cus usually there is no Jew or Christian nearby) he absolutely did not go out of his why to drive across town and randomly strayed in to a Jewish day-school. I mean he just as easliy could have parked in front of a station full of unsuspecting Gendarmes. Apparently the jewish children at school are more representative of French Governmental target than gendarmes or City Hall.
