Updated at 8:30 p.m. ET: The president of Somalia's Olympic committee and the head of the country's soccer federation were among the at least six people killed by a female suicide bomber at Mogadishu's newly reopened national theater Wednesday.
Sports official Shafici Mohyadin said the two were killed when the blast hit the first-anniversary celebration of Somalia's satellite television channel. The officials were Aden Yabarow Wiish, the president of the Somali Olympic Committee, and Said Mohamed Nur, head of the Somali Football Federation.
Al-Shabab insurgents claimed responsibility for the blast in yet another stark reminder of the fragile security in the capital, Mogadishu.
The bombing was an apparent attempt to kill the Prime Minister Abdiweli Mohamed Ali at the TV celebration.
While the al-Qaida-allied militants pulled their fighters out of the capital last August, they have struck targets regularly in the heart of the coastal city using roadside bombs, mortars and suicide bombers.
A soldier guarding the theater said the bomber had been stopped but the premier's security team had insisted she be allowed in because she was carrying police ID.
"The suicide bomber was a young, slim lady with plaited hair. She wore a veil and carried a police identity card," Mohamed Ali, a soldier, told Reuters.
"She sat under the tree in front of the theater for a while. She stood and went toward the theater when she heard the voice of the PM. We were suspicious and shouted 'stop'. She wanted to target the PM. We stopped her. But the PM's guards inside shouted 'let her come in' because she had a police identity card in her hand. And all of a sudden we heard the explosion."
Ali Muse, the head of Mogadishu's ambulance service, earlier said at least 10 people were killed and dozens wounded, including the country's national planning minister, although the higher death toll could not be verified.
Corpses were strewn across the floor of the theater and some of the dead were still in their seats, a Reuters reporter at the scene said. Ambulance workers collected the bodies and sirens wailed as the wounded were rushed to hospitals.
Al-Shabab said it had targeted government officials and lawmakers with explosives planted ahead of the event, and denied that it had used a suicide bomber.
"We were behind the theater blast. We targeted the infidel ministers and legislators, and they were the casualties of today," Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, the spokesman for al-Shabab's military operations, told Reuters.
In a statement, the White House expressed its condolences to the Somali people Wednesday, adding that the country had "made great strides in the past months to improve security and rebuild Mogadishu after two decades of civil strife." Al-Shabab is an obstacle in the path of this progress, the statement read.
British Prime Minister David Cameron called the bombing "sickening" and acknowledged the "difficult moment" for everyone involved with Somalia's Olympics efforts.
International Olympic Committee said of Wiish and Nur, "Both men were engaged in improving the lives of Somalian people through sport and we strongly condemn such an act of barbarism. Our thoughts are with the Somalian sporting community who lost two great leaders, and with the families of the victims."
Mogadishu's national theater closed during the early 1990s as the city was engulfed by civil war and terrorism. Many saw its re-opening as a symbolic step on the city's road to normality.
Public entertainment, including theater, were frowned upon by the al-Shabab militants forced out of large parts of the city last year.
Directors had planned to use the theater to stage plays reflecting the transition toward peace, which many parts of the country have recently enjoyed.

People forfeit their lives in the name of some crazy, unworthy things. So tragic.
muslims don't care who they kill, family, women and children....
Makes no difference to them....
One might argue that a sizable portion of the US population doesnt care if innocent women and children die either, as long as it helps them sleep better at night under some false sense of "security".
Don't paint all Muslims with the same brush. Most of them are like enyone else - they want to have a decent life and a better one for their kids, they want good jobs to support their families with, peace, and security. Just because a few idiots are hell-bent on using violence to promote their extremely screwed-up version of Islam and think they're scoring brownie points with the Almighty by killing anyone who doesn't agree with them or who just happens to be in the way, is no reason to promote the view that ALL Muslims are like that.
It's like saying all Norwegian Christians are like Anders Breivick(the Christian extremist who shot and killed 70 people - mostly children - at a youth camp) or the Nigerian Christian preachers and so-called apostles who accuse people of witchcraft - even little children - and whip up a mob to go turture and kill th them.
Al-Shabab is referred to as Al-Shababoon by a lot of Somali Muslims I know here in the US who fled to escape the constant violence in their country. I'm talking Somalis who came here as kids back in the late '70's and who are now US citizens with kids of their own as well as more recent immigrants. Many still have relatives back in Somalia whom they are trying to help support and they hear all sorts of news that never makes to the media. Its a hell-hole of warlords and their militias, extremist groups, a struggling government unable to fight back, and a whole lot of innocent people caught in the crossfire. The female bomber could have been forced to do what she did because whoever sent her was going to kill her family if she didn't.
Believe me, most American Somalis thank God that they're here and not over there and there are those among them who serve proudly in the US Military. American Somalis are hard-working, family-oriented people, good neighbors, and gracious and generous folks...so are most of the Somalis still in Somalia. Unfortunately they get overshadowed by the ones who aren't.
What was the purpose of this, except to murder their own people? It is so sad and senseless.....
You're correct Adam, most Americans do not care if people in other parts of the world are oppressed, starved and murdered, as long as they can their their lives. It is only when we are DIRECTLY affected, that we care! We are a nation of apathetic sheep.
Gordo13- In response to your comment, I agree with you all the way.
Allison, while I agree with you that there must be nice Muslims, the average American doesn't see them. I for one don't know anyone of the Muslim faith. What we see are fanatics slamming planes into buildings, and others gunning down American soldiers in Tx.
I don't believe that the Majority of the Muslim faith are terrorists, but we never hear from them. We hear the Imam telling us not to aggravate the extremists. We hear the extremists telling us "Kill All Americans"
Where are these PEACEFUL Muslims? I'd like to hear more from "Religion of Peace" what PEACE means to them.
Saying that all Muslims are fanatical terrorists is like saying that all Christians are members of Westboro Baptist Church.
@Blondeness Why are you still here? You should be over in The Mo fighting for these great and noble people. Believe me they will welcome a "helpfull" American like you with open arms. So get packed and head on over. We sheep will wait for your triumphant return! It's a wonderful place I guarentee you'll love it.
Thats exactly what a Muslim says, just before hr pushes the button.
You will hear this from Muslim leaders, then watch them dance in the streets after some suicide attack.
ajsbaltimore11, you mean to tell me there are only 50 muslim terrorists in the world? That's about how many members the Westboro Baptist church has.
When does our news ever show us anything that supports peace? thats not good news that and the government would have a harder time makeing us believe we should still be over there. Take a pen and paper and watch any news program and compare the good stories to the bad stories and see which there is more of.
@shaw
hahahahahahahahahahaha, that was a good laugh until reality hit me in the face like a brick, you can't have islam without radical islam, read the Killran and you will see that it is against their religion to be peaceful people to (everyone). So yes we can paint every muslim with the same brush, because if they're peaceful to everyone, they're either. A. living/telling a lie or B. going against their religion, so they're really not muslim.
Also @ MR.Baltimore,
no it's not because christian's don't teach what they preach, at least the bible doesn't, don't even bring up leviticus because sadly that is what most ignorant liberals do, that is a priest code in the OLD TEST, not new (what jesus taught, which makes christians christians),
HOWEVER the killran teaches violence against enemies of islam which is basically anyone that isn't a follower of it. so yes we can because that is what their belief system is based on.
Did Jesus ever tell his followers to kill other people? No. Did Mohammed? Yes. Did Jesus ever take up a sword himself? No. Did Mohammed? Yes. Christianity has three pieces of dogma that talk about dealing with others: the Golden Rule, the Parable of the Good Samaritan and the Great Commission. The first says treat your neighbors like you want to be treated. The second says that your neighbor is every other person, not just fellow Christians. The third says spread the Word so that everyone acts in these ways. Sure, there is other stuff in Christianity but these are the rules for interacting with non-believers. Contrast that to the Sword Sura. Moslems who take up weapons and kill non-believers are not radicals and terrorists; they are simply following fundamental Islamic doctrine. It's the ones who don't who are not good Moslems.
wjrust: It sounds like the Koran needs a New Testament. Christianity is a far cry from the Judaism that spawned it.
As for the article, I've stopped paying attention to the killing over there. It seems to be a way of life I attribute as much to culture as religion, kind of like our gun culture over here. Europeans look at us the same way we look at the Islamic world.
(And no, that last comment is not a statement either for or against the 2nd Amendment.)
I suppose you expect people to believe you know something about islam? Or christianity?
Gordon-13 We christians are killing every day of the week, every week of the month, every month of the year and for 210 years including all Sundays without fear of any GOD! Just read Western history which is full of blood. We are no different than others. There was a time that the English & the French fought for ONE HUNDRED YEARS! Just an example.
@Mr.Gabe
PLEASE keep in mind that many people base their arguments against using HUMANS as examples, yes we know many types of humans kill including christians BUT these arguments are invalid because humans are human, we have free will and don't make the right choices. Therefore arguments that use this basis are can not be argued, only arguments based on the teachings of the religion and prophet of religion, mohaMAD = cold blooded killer, Jesus = promoted only love.
And those people who died over in the mid-east during our nation building phase were just the sacrificial lambs?
When a nation refuses to allow themselves to be advanced from the stone age why should other nations care? If they find it acceptable to continue their plight, let them.
So the distinction, between “Muslim violence” and “western violence” is that these 'primitive' peasant Muslims, when they kill, must use archaic, improvised tools like suicide bombers, IED’s and Kalashnikovs, while we have much more civilized lethal tools, such as rockets and drones and thus our actions are somehow more humane.
Apparently our moral injunction against killing stops at actual participatory, physical experience. Instead we opt for dropping bombs from drones, controlled from many miles away. It’s all the same violence and just because we’ve sanitized it and removed it doesn’t wash it off our hands. Just because the west is rich and our tools of warfare are refined doesn’t change the fact that it is violence perpetrated upon other humans.
A suicide bomber targets a government official and kills civilians and it is ghastly
A drone targeting an Al-Qaida operative kills civilians and it’s the cost of doing war
Terrorism is poor making war and war is the rich doing terrorism.
Allison Shaw writes:
Those aren't the ones I'm worried about, obviously.
If it was only "a few" fanatics, as with every other religion, then you would be right.
Islam produces large numbers of such fanatics, unlike all other religions. Why? Because Islam supplies ample material to inspire and sustain the fanatics. That's the problem.
No it's not. First of all, Anders Breivik wasn't a Christian. He didn't pray, he didn't go to church, he didn't read the Bible. Why do you insist on calling him a Christian?
Secondly, he didn't belong to any larger organization of like-minded fanatics who seek to support or emulate his action. He was a lone wolf, An aberration. A statistical outlier, unlike the Muslim radicals who perpetrate THOUSANDS of violent, deadly attacks on civilians each year in the name of Islam! Big difference there. The numbers tell the story. Islam produces extremists by the millions. Why? Because it is NOT a "screwed up" version of Islam that they are following, but rather a very plausible, literal, and supported version (in the texts themselves) of Islam that they are following. Otherwise there woud not be so many of them. Sounds obvious, I know, but some people just can't or won't face up to this reality.
No, Adam, the difference is that they target anyone and everyone, including civilians, whereas "we" target the killers and combatants on their side.
Targeted against killers and combatants, yes, NOT on civilians. Pretty much the only civilians who are ever killed in drone attacks are the radicals who cart their wives (plural) and children into the combat zone with them, exposing them to the hazards of war. After all, what do they care? To die when killing or being killed for Allah means that you go to Paradise. The Koran says so.
No it's not. One side targets everyone, including women and children. The other side only targets combatants.
Or she could've been quite happy to do it. If she didn't want to do it then she had every opportunity to walk up to a security agent and turn herself in at the scene. A story could be easily planted in the press that a suicide bomber was detected and arrested before she could detonate herself, thus protecting the family from retribution if that was a concern.
Split hairs all you like Adam, it doesn't change the fact that more civilians have died as a result of our "targeted killings," then in all the terrorist attacks combined.
Where do you get the idea that terrorists target "everyone?" The article even states that they were attempting to assassinate the PM.
If you seriously think that our armed forces are at all concerned with the presence of civilians and innocents' when dropping the bomb on an enemy combatant, then you are seriously delusional.
Pretty much the only civilians who are ever killed in drone attacks are the radicals who cart their wives (plural) and children into the combat zone with them.
The cost of war right? Hypocrite.
Don't do that Adam44. I expect better from you.
Making a distinction between targeting combatants and targeting civilians = "splitting hairs" for you. Sad. Also, your "fact" about 'more civilians having died as a result of our targeted killing then in all the terrorist attacks combined,' is just pure B.S. that you've invented on your own. Nice try though.
Obviously we're talking about more than just this one attack, genius. You were the one who brought up drones. How many drone attacks were discussed in the article?
You should be a fiction writer. You just make stuff up and believe it is reality. That doesn't mean the rest of us have to.
Muslims continue to take Africa from the north ....
Working their way south ....
With fear and killing ....
^ Much like the Christians that came a few centuries earlier.
Bilal, I was representing what may well be in the minds of the Taliban and al-Qaida in N. and N.W. provinces of Pakistan who are active agents of war while at the same time living with wives and children. They know they are targets by the activities of war they are engaged in, yet they expose their women and children to the mortal danger. Why? I happen to think that the following verses from the Koran have something to do with it:
I think that's why they do it; they are convinced that everyone is going to Paradise if killed by the infidels.
Or maybe Adam as in the case of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Gaza, Somalia etc. that since the warzone is in their own back yard they have decided to just be with their families whilst they fight? It’s a thought huh? Personally I can see quite a few parallels between their actions (keeping the family in the warzone) and the actions of a few other historic groups, such as medieval Europeans, the French, Russian, Dutch, Pilipino resistance movements of WW2 ect ect. Also as harsh as it sounds having your family in a warzone with you can provide benefits, after all ask any solider serving abroad what they miss most and in the top 10 will be his/her family (granted they wouldn’t want them to be in harm’s way, but most of our soldiers aren’t engaged in generational conflicts) but now I’m digressing
You can't have a small group of a religion speak for the larger group, this is true of any religion. Even those 50 Westburo Baptist Chuch folks give Christians a bad name, but imagine that's all you knew of christianity because that's all that's on TV. The same for Muslims, you can't judge all by few. (As I am sure, the middle east called christians terrorists during the crusades).
On that note, Religion in itself is just.....a way of explaining what was once magic, but can now be explained through Science.
Los, you make it sound like al-Qaida is indigenous to N. and N.W. Pakistan. They are not. They travelled to get there from any number of other countries. They travelled there to make war. They brought their wives and children along, or decided to make a family while there. Bad decision either way.
Either make war, and accept the mortal conseequences, or have families and enjoy peace. Same thing with most of the Taliban very few of whom are native to those towns and villages they base themselves in. At any rate, it is only the top of the top of Taliban who are targeted.
Al-Qaida is by far the biggest target and has been decimated by the drone attacks. I say GOOD! Keep it up! If they are keen to make "martyrs" of not just themselves but of their many wives and children too, that's their sad, deplorable decision. The blood is on THEIR hands for putting their families in danger like that. But of course, as I pointed out above (that you didn't reply to), they are happy to do so because their reading of the Koran and Islam tells them that everyone will go straight to Paradise if killed in such circumstances (killing or being killed for Islam).
Adam; the expert in migration of Mujadeen and the family unit of Middle Eastern counties.
Adam, even you can probably figure out that Arabs are not native to Pakistan.
Well technically Adam44 Al-Qaeda is a brand name these days (well since the war on terror) it operates much like a franchise or NGO (non-government organisation) in that groups of Islamic Extremists can ask it for funding and help and in exchange use its name when they carry out an attack, in a way the process reminds me of McDonalds and Burger King in that whilst they have official stores they also have people who pay them to use their name, it’s a similar sort of system.
As for not mentioning the Koran, well I didn’t feel the need as you pretty much have that covered, I just wanted to show that there may be other reasons for such behaviour that are not attributed to the Koran. Whether or not people think they have any weight I leave it up to them to decide.
As for this article, well I find that in order to really understand the motives of this particular group Al Shabaab then it would be wise to study this whole civil war from its genesis to now, to study the origins of this group, what their stated aims are, how internal and external factors have influenced them ect ect, but of course that would entail a lot of effort, and let’s face it most people don’t really care that much to be bothered, but I’m willing to bet there is more to this group then just “we are all Muslims, die infidel”
I'm not suggesting they're not foreigners but the idea of them loading their families up and bringing them along to a war zones seems preposterous to me. You must believe that these conflict zones where completely devoid of human populations prior to any war and only now that the insurgents have converged, for some reason on a desolate, uninhabited area, that we were, for some reason also converging on ourselves, are there civilians now there. Hmm. Seems legit.
@photobiker Obviously there are more Muslim extremists than there are members of WBC. But even if WBC had 100 million members they would still be vastly outnumbered by all the other Christians who think they're a bunch of lunatics. And who wouldn't want to be lumped in with them.
I often wonder why in the year 2012 do some people still insist
that adhering to a religion, both in the U.S. and abroad, is a good thing as it
necessitates an us versus them mentality.
Despite all Iraqi and Afghani war devastations, I am still lost on arming al-Qaida against Syrian ruler, Assad and doing the dirty works for Saudis, oil companies, lobbyists in Iran and Syria!
Who gets the money from the suicide bomber's 491K in Somali?
What does this act have to do with 'adhering to religion"? Are you saying that because it's 2012, and because there are terrorist that commit unspeakable acts and have loose affiliations with Islam, and because you say so, I should not believe that I am saved by Jesus Christ?
you shouldn't believe you are saved by a 2000 year old sky-zombie for any reason at all.
Dusty, I agree. I adhere to my religion quietly and do not try to force it on anyone. I am so tired of these crazy religious nuts ruining it for everyone. I do not ever have an us vs. them mentality. I love everyone no matter what race, sex, sexual preference, beliefs(or lack thereof). I like to think that most religions encourage peace and love, but so many religious nuts are intolerant, it gives us a bad name. I think just like race, that you can't judge a whole religion based on what some extremists do. I think people can use religion as a scapegoat for their own agendas but I definitely don't think that I should have to give up my beliefs because of some crazy terrorists. Not every Christian is pro life, anti-LGBT, anti-other religions, , anti-science, republican...
no, but you all believe in the dogma of your fathers, and the fact that geography determined your faith should be a giant red flag.
Adam, why are you afraid of religion? I don't understand why non-believers feel a need to belittle those of faith. Whatever their beliefs.
I don't feel any need or pressure to inflict my beliefs on others. Why do you feel the need to inflict yours on us? My beliefs are my own. If I wish to pray to God and FEEL the power of his love, that's just my belief.
For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don't, no proof will ever be enough.
.
Adam, don't try to tell me about my faith. I'm not criticizing your beliefs and you shouldnt criticize mine. You are obviously no more tolerant than some of the crazy religious nuts I was speaking about. And your comment before that is just insulting. If I want to worship a sacred monkey at the zoo, thats my perogative, you don't have to agree or believe the same but you need to keep your ugly comments to yourself. Don't tell anyone what they should or should not believe in.
Adam you know nothing about faith. But your going to get a lesson when you die. A hard lesson!
That concept goes both ways. For those that believe, no proof will dispel those beliefs. For those who don't, no proof is necessary.
Because one believes does not negate the opinions of those that don't. Nor should those that don't believe be denied the chance to express their opinions because some believers choose to remain silent.
I love how Christians jump to the conclusion that non-believers know nothing of faith, ignoring the fact that the majority were raised in religion. I spent 3/4's of my life as a devout christian. I bet I know more about the Bible than the lot of you even.
Why would someone like me be not be concerned, when day in, day out, we see the propaganda machine telling us all how "christian" our founders were, and how we need to be a "christian" nation, only to see a religious fanatic have a very real chance at becoming nominated for president, while others in the same race promise to abolish the separation of church and state from day one.
You hear from people like me, precisely because the lot of you can't keep it to yourselves. Not only that, but Christians feel that they are allowed to spew their judgement left and right, but at the first sign of resistance, suddenly you're being persecuted.
Also, it's hard to deny that our countries holy war on Islam is supported by anything other than Christians. This war is a giant pissing contest for Christians to feel better about their dogma, since faith alone isn't enough.
There are alot of Adams on here. It's getting confusing.
The other ones are imposters!
Time to send troops everybody, there was a terrorist attack in Africa of all places. Never mind there has been tons of predictions that the 2012 Olympics would be used to have a false flag attack to start wars for profit. The African continent has tons of natural resources like oil, platinum, uranium, petroleum, gold, silver, diamonds, lumber etc...., it hasn't nothing to do with religious radicals.
It's inevitable. The U.S. government is out of control and its supporters are brain-dead. That is not a healthy duo.
What the hell does that have to do with the story. Are you a moron?
You're brilliant
Wait a minute!
We are worried about oil from ME and WMDs in Iran! All the troops are ready to land in Syria and Iran!
Africa comes last if we have time!
Our industrialists and government accelerated the problem, along with France, dumping nuclear waste in the Strait during the Reagan Era and opened the door to political infighting and the loss of the fishing incomes. Now, they are in NIgeria fleecing the people of the oil, next they will expect the US to us our military so they can plunder what they wish.
Yes, just like GWB with Iraq Romney if elected President will probably send troops (which includes Nat'l Guard and Reservists) to Somalia to try to bring peace and order to that country. Remember, Bill Clinton tried to do that and we lost the helicopter and troops; he was smart enough to bail out but GWB just kept going in Iraq even prematurely declaring victory and we all know where that went. The only way to clean up in Somalia is AC-130 gunships firing 30 cal. at everyone who appears to have weapons aimed at the planes. NO GROUND TROOPS INVADING THE COUNTRY.
And you base this on? Bush did not prematurely declare victory. Saddam's army was beat, and he was not in power anymore. The mission was to defeat the army and remove Saddam, and that mission was ACCOMPLISHED. Also, The AC-130 gunship does not have 30 cal. You don't know much.
You people laugh call me a moron and sarcastically say I'm brilliant but you are the true tards manipulated to throw those insults that say oh and say that's that crazy conspiracy talk even though time and time and time again these events have been predicted but since it's not on a reality show or in main stream media news headline you have no idea or ignore it calling it crazy. This is a another excuse to go into Africa to wage war under the moniker AFRICOM. It's actually annoying how simple most people are and you point the finger calling someone else dumb, look in the mirror for once in your life. Whistle blowers give out classified documents all the time and even researchers try to warn people to save lives to show you things are not always the way the media portrays them and yes are planned for sadistic purposes. Why do you think that the video Kony 2012 had such harsh critics that said hell no to wanting to help even though it seems like a good cause, because it was just a scam for profit or was it us crazy folks that keep saying it was propaganda for war that would cause more death and destruction. If only the founder wrapped that tin foil around his head maybe he wouldn't have heard those hundreds of voices telling him sexually humiliating gibberish, making fun of his deepest darkest secrets and causing him to have a complete meltdown in public which wouldn't have happened to him if he wasn't called out for his video and his charity that wanted to get supporters to send a letter to our government for military intervention in Uganda.
And obama promised to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and pull our troops out - and we know where that went.
We do know where that went. President Obama said that there would be a troop surge in Afghanistan and the troops would be removed in Iraq. Did both things and set a time table for withdrawal in Afghanistan--bonus--ordered the killing of Bin Laden. He joined NATO in the removal of Ghadaffi. So--Bush ran his mouth and accomplished nothing, except push this country towards bankruptcy.
Obama-Biden 2012
well said!!
Not quite. President obama may have said he would increase troops in Afghanistan but Candidate obama promised a withdrawal from both countries right after getting elected. The troops are still in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Wow. The Mossad and CIA strike again.
Right, Jeff. It's an international plot to make the U.S. soccer team more competitive. Brazil is next.
Another "Oh so sophisticated" conspiracy freak. Nothing is as it seems. All is cloaked and concealed. We are indeed fortunate that a few among us can see through the lies and distortions of our corrupt government and news media and lead us to the truth.
It's all a Zionist/CIA plot--The Kennedy assassination, 9-11, Three Mile Island, increased autism, Area 51, the creation of AIDS, the faked moon landing, and of course, killer bees.
Amazing how so much wisdom is endowed to so few. P.S.--Kmart has a sale on tin-foil hats!! Today only!! Hurry!!
Ya know, I wish the CIA and Mossad were to blame, then I would know where to send the complaint letter stating how inept at killing they were....only 10!!?? COME ON!!! Do it right!!!
Another brain-dead conspiracy nut. It's funny -- they think they are so much smarter than everyone, but in actuality they are the stupidest people you'll ever meet.
Some of the pipes are leaking in my office building. Better blame Israel and America.
Savages!
Correct Ray...muslim scum, nothing more. And where are all those 'peaceful loving muslims' do nothing to stop terrorism, but only quietly and silently agree with the tenents of islam, kill all non-believers?. For anyone who thinks these cowardly muslim scum terrorists are a small minority, ask yourself why all the rest of the muslim world that claim to be peaceful does nothing to stop this? Nothing...not one single measurable act of curbing terrorism, not one! Every single muslim is as guilty as these killers, every one!
Bah la la la la la laaaaaaaaa - BOOM
Achmed the Dead Terrorist
Shut up ..... ...... ..... or I keel you!
lol! Jeff is a riot with all of his puppets.
Al-Qaida must be on the way way down if their targeting Somalia now. Please tell me we don't have to send troops or money.
It looks like al-Qaida is making itself at home in Africa. Time for the U.S. troops to add another battle front to the war on terrorism.
It's time people like you grab a uniform and hit the front lines.
Only fools would join the military these days. I am not fighting for warmongering profiteers or the U.N.
MIKE, don't you know sarcasm when you here it?
I didn't see it as sarcasm.
We have half this nation wanting to eradicate every last terrorist, and a military complex that is itching for hundreds of billions in funding, so that comment could be genuine.
I didn't see it as sarcasm either, not until you pointed it out. Sometimes it's hard to tell.
The weekly/daily shooting spree is getting tiresome but at least we don't have this happening as often as some parts of the world does. Expect we will catch up some day. It is my belief religion is not to blame it is just a tool evil men use to get power over others.
Religion has always been a tool used to exercise power over others. But being used as a tool doesn't excuse the evil, hatred, and divisiveness that religion can espouse.
It never ends....all the suicide bombings and killing...all for the love of GOD.
What a wicked religion. As long as these nuts just dance in the streets and get no education. I just wonder how they are able to afford food. The people that feel all the killing and murder is wrong should stay in their countries and form their own rebellion against the evil people.
sad !
Just drop a damn bomb over every country in the middle east....turn that wasted desert land into glass!!!!
You know Somalia is in Africa…Right? Ahhh! Our public
education system at work.
Maybe you should go back to school Fritz, Northern Africa (especially the NE) has always been part of the Middle East.
cullerco, no matter how you slice it, Somalia is on the African continent.
Maybe I should! Damn public education!
cullerco, historically, geographically, and culturally, the Horn of African isn't synonymous with the Middle East. This has less to do with religion, and more to do with the fact that Somalia is, and has been for many years now, a failed state.
No no no. Cullerco is right. There is a regional definition to the Mid East which includes the horn of africa. So sayeth wikipedia!
HA! Fritz67 is right. Somalia is in Africa people! They are NOT Arabs!
Yes there not. Plus how do you realy know, must be time for a genome project or at least a lawn gnome, they could be from Gnome Alaska
I must be facetious enough to comment that I don't know why people are that surprised about this one. We've known for 137 years that it's dangerous for government officials to go to see plays. My heart goes out to the victims and families, but do we really need to have all theaters renamed Ford's theater to drive home the point?
How is it that Somali has a president of the Olympic Committee and head of soccer federation but no other controlled government? wth....
Islam, the religion of peace... mmm-kay. As Anthrograd so stated.. how does this happen in 2012? I don't get it
More like the religion of pieces....muslims are not living in the present they are living in 700 ad.and that is what religion does,it tend to want to live like when it was first established and if this country (the usa) vote for these religious fanatics running for the office of the presidency they will take us back to that point in time.
The campaign to invade Africa begins.. I guess they figure its time to grab up the resources there. Cant do that without a war. They will of course need to set up bases. And once in, they are like ticks, you have to burn them out to get rid of them.
I keep hoping for a natural disaster or something, so it forces the West to stop the wars. Too many in the public are blood thirsty haters that buy everything the goverment says hook, line, and sinker. Because it supports their hateful views. Sad. So stopping them politically is a lost cause.. Wheres a meteor when you need one.
Condolences to the families of those killed.
It is doubtful there will be a better comment than this.
Wow. Very sad. Just yesterday the NYT was saying how much better things were there now that the US isn't there.
It's just another act of love and peace! Are you feeling it yet? Do you feel the love? I know I do!
WAKE UP AMERICA
It's scary that a religion can convince you to kill yourself just to fulfill the political agenda of others.
The article states that it was a woman who did this. As Somalia is mostly Islamic, I would conjecture that she somehow shamed her family by being raped, or perhaps her hajib fell off and men could see her hair. At this point the only way to redeem her families honer is to blow herself up in the name of Islam.
Not religion Alone BUT the People Behind the religion.
"The president of Somalia's Olympic committee and the head of the country's soccer federation have been killed in a suicide blast at Mogadishu's newly reopened national theater . . . ."
"It said the reopening of the theater on March 19 had been hailed as a sign of improving security in the war-ravaged Horn of Africa country."
Ka-boom! Here's your "sign."
What a sad commentary, all the way around. Murderers and more murderers. Need I say more?
I'm praying for families once more, it is a shame, there are others, here there everywhere, just having breakfast, or laying down to sleep, who will pay, with thier lives for someone else's dirty deed, dirty deed, done with or without reason, or orders, it is a sad time for all of us who live here, in the now, and in the know....
My two very observant brothers deal with these ordeals, on level ground, over "there" we can just call it...it is all the same bad guys, same bad faces, same bad ...just bad....they are not animals, they are not what they percieve as fools, but they call these things justified, and required, i do not want an list of whys, or what fors, just some words, not bombs, who do they think they will talk to when there are none left to hear or be convinced......they can just sit and nod....at each other then i suppose... 400 years of all the same...you would think, that would drive you crazy, crazy enough to ...well change direction anyway...worse and worse, ....round and round......no one trying or giving up ground.....zero to zero......
Perfectly consistend with conservative Islam... no TV, no theaters, just Allah.
bible=fairytales....but there is a God, he just isnt in our image, God is the biggest energy there is. Everything in this universe has energy everything even dirt and cement and so it is alive, some things are just more alive than others, Gods energy is enormous and more powerful than the sun or many suns. God does not think and does not know we are here we cant relate with God.
Your post = too many bong hits.
bible=fairytales' post makes much more sense than many conventional religious beliefs. Who are we to criticize anyone else's faith?
If you choose to believe something then that is your prerogative. "Faith" is inherently belief without proof.
The bottom line is that NO ONE KNOWS FOR SURE. The danger comes from believing that your belief system is the only correct system. This results in either indoctrination or violence.
Peace and Love to All
Just another Wonderful, Wacky MURDEROUS Day with the "religion of Death" called islam. "Let those who live by the sword, DIE by the sword." GOD
Andthe hits keep on coming. Wake up America! Ackmed and his buddies are not good people nor are they our friends.
Just another reminder that we need to get our men and women out of the Middle East and stick to an all-out covert war on Al-Qaeda from the safety and comfort of our cubicles at Langley.
