Kim Jung-un, the young North Korean leader, made his first public speech Sunday – a possible sign of new openness. NBC's Richard Engel reports.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in his first public speech called for a push toward "final victory" Sunday during a massive celebration marking the 100th birthday of national founder Kim Il Sung.
Kim, 29, in the 22-minute speech broadcast on state-owned television, praised his grandfather as tens of thousands gathered in Pyongyang's main square for meticulously choreographed festivities that came two days after a failed rocket launch.
"I offer the purest respect and the greatest honor to great comrades Kim Il-Sung and Kim Jong-Il," he told cheering crowds, referring to his late grandfather and deceased father. Kim called his grandfather as the eternal leader of the country and "founder and the builder of our revolutionary armed forces."
He also said it was important to keep the military strong and to remember the military is more than rockets.
"Let's go forward toward final victory," he concluded.
Kim also reviewed a military parade as soldiers bedecked with rifles and medals marched and tanks, missiles and other hardware rolled past and military jets flew overhead, the Voice of America reported on Twitter.
The parade included the unveiling of what appears to be a new missile, The Associated Press reported.
While its contents were uncontroversial, the speech itself was a big surprise after many years of silence from Kim's father when he presided over similar events.
Sunday's celebration followed North Korea's attempt to launch a long range rocket, which ended in failure on Friday.
Washington and others had said the Friday rocket launch was a covert test of long-range missile technology.
The state that Kim inherited in December after the death of his father boasts a 1.2 million-strong military, wants to possess a nuclear weapon and to develop the ability to hit the United States with it.
Behind those ambitions are 23 million people, many malnourished, in an economy whose output is worth just $40 billion annually in purchasing power parity terms, according to the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, compared with South Korea's $1.5 trillion economy.
This article includes reporting by Reuters and The Associated Press.

The Puppet has spoken!
I'm surprised that the North Korean government even acknowledged the failure.
He is going to change the country. I'm pretty sure. He just needs little more time. He is not retarded like his father. He allowed all the media into the launch site, the launch control, photograph the satellite and everything. Maybe the media is still working in NK at the moment.
He will change the country. He has western experience and is not paranoid from the west. He just can't change it 100% right now, because all the military leaders will get shocked and overpower him. He is going to do it slowly and gradually. I think he is intelligent and he is not from the Cold War period. He is the generation of Michael Jordan, Backstreet Boys and NBAs. This is a new generation.
I am surprised he knows how to speak.
Laughs out loud @ Tom111 . . . .
I served in Korea Tom, the military is in control of him. First the Missile launch and next a Nuclear test. He is nothing more then their puppet. Everything is happening in the normal order that the Military leadership in North Korea wants.
Roger - @ #1.3 I am surprised too that he can speak. Do you understand Korean?
jonal11 - The military has strong influence in the country for sure, but ultimately he is in charge of the country on paper and reality. Military has influence, but Un can change the country covertly by allowing certain business to open up, removing certain restriction on cell phone use, allowing more imports, etc. that are not really military areas. In terms of military, the military will remain strong, but society, culture, every day life, business might change. Once those changes, it usually cannot be reversed. It is mostly economic. He knows the absurd backwardness and poverty of NK. He just knows and wants to change it. He has the personal experiences.
At this moment, he just following the same old protocol to look tough and paranoid, but I don't think he really believes it.
Screw it - like lil' jibbering Monster Jr. has anything to say that's worth hearing: "blah, blah, blah, gimme free food so I can spend money on more rocket R&D, blah, blah, blah"
Even if he wanted to change the country in a positive way, the military brass wouldn't let him do it. They have too much power, and in fact, outside of Jong-Un, they ARE the only power apparatus in the country. They realize that a change from the way things are will be negative for them.
He's not like his father, that I'm positive of. But it'll take some time to see what kind of person he really is.
Tom111,
I like your optimism, I really do. And I hope the new Iran talks on Nuclear weapons change things. The problem I see is how reliably the North Koreans break promises. Right now they are building tunnels or have finished for a Nuclear test. If they go through, it's the same ole same ole Military in control. If somehow, someway the test doesn't happen, then I will be with you and hope the new leader does have some control over the country. However, if it does happen, it will only confirm that he is only a puppet of the military leadership and his Uncle.
If he tries anything drastic against the military's wishes, he will be overthrown.
And if the military tries anything drastic on us or the South, the world will punish them for it.
China supporting the North during a massacre of the South would make them look bad, not just in our eyes or that of the West.
How many in Red China do you think hate the regime there and want an excuse to revolt? I may not know for sure, but I think it's a pretty big amount that are just keeping tight lipped about it in order to stay alive for when a revolt actually happens.
All it takes is a critical misplay and their "power hold" will start crumbling. After all, human beings ain't robots, dictators are.
NK will change. I'm pretty positive about it. China doesn't want US, SK and Japan on their border if NK collapses. NK will not collapse, it will open up, Kim Jong-Un will step down and the military will gradually go less relevant. I think in the next year, some drastic and surprising things will happen in NK (good ones). I'm not sure about the next nuclear test, maybe that has been planned for years like Kim Jong Il telling Kim Jong Un that if I die, do another missile test and another nuclear test. It is his father's wishes. Once those are done, it is all Un's agenda and his agenda is pretty different from his father's I think.
He really wants nothing to do with NK "Juche" ideology, propaganda and being a "savior" of NK like he is portrayed in news. I think in private life, he is just like a SK kid. I might be wrong, but I'm suspecting that this might be the case.
Hmmmm.... Looks like Un-Jong lost some weight and girth off his face. I wonder...
did Un-Jong get sucky-sucky surgery by a reconstructive surgeon?
North Korea is a failed state from the very beginning until the present day. When they first launched their sneak attack on South Korea, they were beaten back by an old man aged 70 years, General Douglas MacArthur. In that war over 1 MILLION Chinese Communist troops lost their lives in the frozen hell of North Korea. And in the end, the invading army lost territory of North Korea which remains under the rule of South Korea to the present day. Communist North Korea, because of the incompetent leadership, cannot feed its own people and in spite of the suffering of its people who continue to become shorter in height due to malnutrition, it cannot find the solution to relieving the suffering of its people. The failed state continues to lie to its people on a daily basis, because the truth is too horrible for them to know.
tom111, I really hope you are right. N Korea isn't heading toward their final victory, they are heading toward their final annihilation.
@Joe M.-294004
Though it was unfortunate that MacArthur got fired for wanting to nuke China, after getting them involved.
Unfortunate? Well I guess that depends on how you feel about nuclear holocaust.
And such is the power of a national propaganda machine. The poor saps in North Korea unfortunately don't have any idea of what the truth is. We in the US could certainly learn a lesson from North Korea's terrible government. Many of us here in the US believe "our country right or wrong", "we are invincible", and other lies. The further a country gets from reality and the more arrogant and deluded it becomes the more vulnerable it is.
I hope your right tom111, but unfortunately, jong un (the youngest) was chosen because he was the most belligerent and most likely to toe the party line.
North Korea is a military state much like Iran, China, Russia and many others. This little clown will meet with assassination or an unfortunate accident (to be blamed on the West) if he makes waves. That is why he is forced to accept the role as a revered leader by his own people. His sudden demise will provoke such anger from the people that will never suspect their own military. They will mistakenly and surely blame us
That's why we must mind our own business and ignore empty threats spewing from such a rat hole. Tell them that any sign of aggression on us or our allies will be dealt with immediately and severely beyond their imagination. We don't give a damn who their friends may be.
The North Korean people will rise to defeat their own government in time. Their own determined efforts and sacrifice will signal the time for the U.S. to stand firmly at their sides and not a moment sooner.
The US and other World Countries do not know a thing about this very young leader. He will be molded by the Hard Core Communist Aides of his father who are the backbone of his Leadership---the Military, also.
As time goes on, he will "adopt" the old ways of how North Korea is run.
The South Koreans should not get their hopes up. He still hasn't fed his countrymen. How kind could he be? He will also carry out his Father's wishes, to wipe South Korea off the map.
Yeah sure he is. He's going to change it from a starving country into a dead country.
Seriously, saying that he's different because he's seen the west is like saying you're a capable doctor because you watch "Grey's Anatomy." They started his indoctrination on the day of his birth, and it didn't stop until he took over. There is nothing in western culture strong enough to pierce that level of brainwashing. He might not be paranoid of it, but you can bet he's not bringing it to the unfortunate citizens of North Korea.
Tom:
I agree with you. I've been sitting on a "wait and see", attitude.
Don’t hold you breath waiting for change in N. Korea. China is the main pawn in this game and for them it’s imperative to have a buffer and their borders secured from “western” influences. South Korea style of government in the NK would expose China’s government to their own internal problems and that’s not palatable to the ruling class. NK is a perfect partner for them. Their 1.2 mill man strong military complements perfectly China’s 2.3 mill (minimum). These numbers alone are enough to deter anyone from launching any kind of military action in the region.
Unfortunately for North Korea, China could not care less how many innocent Koreans die from starvation as long as they maintain their buffer in place. Also with all the attention on NK, China is free to do its own thing unhindered.
I would like to know whats going to happen to the guy who couldnt light the fuse properly, and if he still has a life, I mean job.
TOM111 - (Is that you Kim Jong Un?) you keep runnin with that Little Engine that Could theme and get back to us...
The apple didn't fall far from the tree! And I see one thing here in the comments...............NO COLLAPSED POSTS....what the hell does that mean????? ;o)
I question what exactly would be that 'final victory'. Mutual destruction, World domination, all peoples bowing at the feet of whom exactly.
Not one government or politician has ever, in my lifetime, surprised me with LEADERSHIP. Every minute of my life I have lived with the threat of war and mutual destruction if not at some regional, definitely at a global, level. Isn't it time for leadership to give us rest, peace, mutually beneficial life giving results instead of continual death and war.
What we call the 'political ideology' doesn't matter. Be it communism, capitalism, socialism, democracy, etc, etc. The fact that humans take the ideology and apply it, do it, execute it, in corrupt, self serving, and egotistical ways creates the scenario necessary for failure. Once in the stream of life, life comes to us at full speed, all we have control over is how we respond to it, thereby creating new choice opportunities in future time. Remember the name human-beings and not human-doings.
I read some of the posts left behind and conclude that very little has been learned through experience and remains immature. Once we destroy our 'enemy' what else would there be to kill. How about giving life a chance.
Tom, I share your hope and optimism because that is what gives life a chance.
Based on the picture at the start of this article; it's coercion on the part of the Military. Kimmy looks like he's just had a corn-cob or a bayonet just stuck somewhere it shouldn't have been.
I also wonder what the NK leader means by "toward final victory". Final victory of what?
Why do we put up with such a corrupt government which does nothing but wish us harm? NK has a million man army, but no way to move them off of their own land, unless the invade SK or China. Well, we know it ain't going to be China. I guess in time, China will join the rest of the world in eliminating the NK threat. Until then NK is just so much media blather.
young un's these days...
When I was a child 60-odd years ago, North Korea's population was suffering mass starvation. The North Korean masses only know military rule and war in the belief that these are caused by other countries which in turn, causes their starvation to this very day. It's why their government rattles sabres to get food.
The North Korean government is as crippled by mass starvation as it has always been. But, it's their own fault. When they express their need for "strength" and start their war talk, it's a mask for the real government failure to keep its people fed. For that, they need the assistance of the outside world they see as their greatest enemy.
What North Korea never seems to learn is that you can't have it both ways: be a super power and be in isolation. It takes the cooperation and progress of the entire global community to support each other where necessities are concerned.
If North Korea learns nothing, cutting off any more outside supplies of food will inevitably bring it to its knees and once again just as in the early 1950's, they will endure eons of mass starvation rather than learn global cooperation.
I was actually thinking more like "the fat chihuahua" yaps more rhetoric.
Living on laurels & dogma of the past Leadership is outdated for wanting changes into the future..he s/b thinking of properly; Caring for his Nation..their Children are malnourished due the drive of a strong military..We All understand that, but to have a Strong Nation, people must be Cared for properly..the situation there is dire, he knows that & should behave differently..it appears, he eats & Lives well, NOT HIS PEOPLE..
Well, I will admit that Jong Un does indeed appear to be smarter than his father, but that's a pretty low bar. Kim Jong Il was a a mildly-retarded man-child.
His long range missile dreams shattered, he MAY have a nuclear weapon, but no way to deliver it to a target. Now he will be very frustrated for a long time. He will have to continue starving his people to support the military. If he tries to break through the DMZ, he will be met by a furious counter-attack with cutting edge modern weapons that he cannot match. He is boxed in with no place to go.
All hail the pillsbury dough boy.
what me worry, A ISOLATED KID, KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT THE WEST (HE WAS PICKED BECAUSE HIS OLDER BROTHER WAS EDUCATED IN WESTERN WAYS) a starving population, nuclear weapons, a very large standing army, his grandfather, and fathers dream to unite Korea under a communist dictatorship, hell what on earth could go wrong.
Tom, Kim stays in power as long as the army wants him to!
Pray for Peace
Prepare for War
I will hope that Un, being an almost sterotypical western teen (rebllious, refused to do homework, played video games, if reports are to be believed) will want change, and hopefully, his bid to get out from under NK military leadership began with the fresh new leaders that were just appointed.
However, I highly doubt his military tech is outdated- let's not forget Uncle China doesn't want a Western government on its doorstep- even if a bit outdated, he still has numbers, plus the fuill weight of the Chinese military industry and all its soldiers/navy/air force behind him (literally). If he's not planning a long term gain, and is infact looking for a military victory over SK, you can bet China will back him, just as they did before (yet more gratitude from another nation we saved- instead of A-stan from Russia, now its China from Japan... when will we learn the nice guys finish last? Or perhaps its just that these 'civilizations' aren't capable of choosing good leadership- something we ourselves have fallen to lately as well, since all political elections are now mere popularity/beauty/"who can bs the most" contests)
What a dick!
Let's just pay not attention. He is in the middle of puberty.
They did say it was his first pubic speech
LOL Happy, my thoughts exactly.. When I first seen pudgy baby face my first thought was, wtf is he 12?
The kid is a waste of time, so let's play a game...
"When I first seen..."
Midwest or deep south?
@!$%#-off you loser-@!$%#!!!
i believe its eubonics.
This new North Korean leader suffers the same pressures as his forebears...millions of his people starving. It's why they cross the borders into neighboring countries with frequency just to survive. So, imagine you are the leader of North Korea and your greatest value is in providing food for those you train for a total military existence. You'd see first that without food, that military would end up a handful of the strongest to survive starvation. How exactly does that create North Korean world power?
If the mice keep on jumping ship; Kim will soon be ruling nothing but a Military Nation (Male and Female). Then, in reality He will have the World's most Powerful Nation in the Military.... er, I think I got that backwards.
A kid running a rogue nuclear warhead powered country..does it get any scarier than this?
Ya, have george bush/dick cheney in charge of a nuclear powered country.
@ imwhitewolf, your logic is flawed. President Bush and Vice President Cheney ran this country for 8 years without using nukes. And I'd be willing to bet that when you were 29 years old, you would have flipped if somebody called you a "kid", but it is unlikely you have made it that far yet.
don't vote recklessly, 2 things North Korea better think of. Trident submarines and if we install the Iron Dome like Israell has now which we manufacture. Up goes the nuke and then it gets shot down. Then the Cruise missiles come popping out of the water.
Iron Dome is built exclusively by Israeli defense contractors Rafael, Elta, and mPrest. It is designed to shoot down short range missiles and projectiles, i.e. Quassam, Katyusha, and 105 mm artillery, with a range of up to 45 mi and at a cost of 50K per shot with a 76% kill rate. It cannot shoot down ballistic missiles carrying a nuclear payload and would certainly be overwhelmed by sheer numbers in the event of a full blown conflict. You might want to go back to playing with your GI Joe set and leave war planning to the experts.
@Joe-2178 - Sheer numbers of what, 1 missile? From everything I've read from intelligence community, they don't even have the "bomb" miniaturized enough to fit in a warhead not to mention their rocket from the Acme Company will take awhile for Kim Un Coyote's scientists to figure out how to make it stay together long enough to bomb SK let alone go intercontinental. Pretty far stretch from that to overwhelming anything.
A couple of Japan's Aegis destroyers sitting in the Sea of Japan can shoot down anything North Korea launches without breaking a sweat. It's what they and the SM-3's were made for, ballistic missile defense. I speak as someone who spent 13 years in our own Navy as part of the Combat Systems department on a destroyer.
Kind of interesting that he didn't mention his father at all. Just not really enough information here so any comments would just be pure speculation.
@CaerRaven
If you had a father like his, would you talk about him ?
Gods no. I'm just surprised since the country spent so many ears going on about how exalted he was.
Maybe his own kid realizes his dad was about as fruity as an orchard.
He is mentally ill .. scary
Wow, both the US and North Korea have leaders who have never accomplished a damn thing in their lives. At least if North Korea actually had an election, they wouldn't have been stupid enough to vote for theirs.
Here's an idea. Put a notice on the bulletin board in your trailer park that there's going to be a vacancy in lot number 4, pack a duffle bag, and get the hell out of my country.
One of the many great things about America, you can leave any time ! And I doubt you will be missed !
You are in for another rough four years, better pack your bags, please.
Mexican Illegals I want as US Citizens. People who only make ignorant comments that are racists and anti US President, I do not. Please leave. There are some 189+ other countries, please choose another.
I live in an RV park. Lot four is occupied by a redneck from Texas flying a Confederate battle flag. He must be on welfare, there are two cases of empty Pearl cans sitting outside his door.
@jonal11
The only one I see making racist and prejudice assumptions is Bill-284190. And since you are pro-illegal and have no respect for our national soverignty why don't YOU get the hell out? Move to Europe, they have no problem opening the flood gates and making national pride a crime.
@DunkinH
Sorry man, my 2 grandfathers, my father, my Uncle and myself have all served in the US military, so when I say we and Mexicans only looking for hard work make better Americans then you. I stand by it, because I have lived it. Why don't you go work a day in your life. Oh and I'm white as white can be. I hate ignorant people.
@Dunkin - It's that very same national pride that is the sole reason the world hates our guts. It's not openly said though, but go over and try to chant "USA! USA!" and watch your ass get beat.
Perhaps if Americans were more modest and remember that we are a nation of liberty, not a nation of "White Power Freedom Under Katholic Khrist Kathedral", then maybe we'd be a little more successful.
Instead, extremists who persecute and execute are making us look like an unfriendly realm.
Tell me, how many hillbillies in this nation are working jobs and not sitting on their fatass couches listening to Rush Limberger and eatin' Big Macs with XXL fries? Give me a number, and give it to me from a reputable source.
@jonall11
So if someone disagrees with Bush, Clinton, Eisenhower or any of the other white Presidents, does that make them racist? People like you are the racists. Just because someone does not agree with an idea or policy of the President does not mean they are a racist.
@Shady
It's funny you say that, because illegals work far better than our own people - perhaps because they actually care about the value of being useful?
@Crimson
Where in my statement did I mention anything about illegals? My statement had to do with calling someone a racist because they disagree with a President who is black.
Since you want to tie my post into the illegal discussion then I will be more than happy to give my opinion on illegals. They should all be deported. I don't care what their original country is, they should be sent back. As a general consensus, I will agree that most immigrants are harder working than native born citizens, but if they're here illegally they are not only breaking the law but are also disrespecting the millions of immigrants that have respected the laws and came here legally.
@ shadyj, our President is NOT black. He is half white, and to ignore that fact is racist against whites.
Bill....it isn't your country...It is the people country.......and your muslim brotherhood wants to take over.....so you get the hell out of "the people's" country
Jonal11, tell me you was not "anti-Bush" and you will tell me a lie. So for 8 years you was anti-US president.....so take your own advice and check out the other 189+.
Darryl, his skin is black. His blood is half white American and half Kenyan. And it is the African Americans who as much or more so ignore that Barrack Hussein is 1/2 white than the whites who may do so. I never did care for oreo's myself, I always preferred chocolate chip myself.....;)
Hey Bill,
Suck it hard. This is my country too. And I love it. And the best thing for MY country is to get this incompetent socialist out of office.
ctviking...Oh and replace him with whom? Another failure CEO? Like Bush? Like Cheney? Like Romney? Is that all the righties in this country want? A Big Corporation instead of a government of the PEOPLE, by the PEOPLE, for the PEOPLE?
This is why some white middle aged males in this country and some women their ages as well are looked at as radical extremists. They despise government. Only want Big Business and a semblance of government that's really a profit making machine. Sorry, that's not a government. It wasn't when Washington was president and it isn't with the present president. That's what's really up the asses of the middle aged white men and women in this country. They want their way...nothing else.
Well excuse us for being part of the population and not the population of Daycare Generation narcissists. This is why these freaks of nature hated Clinton and now Obama. They both come from very humble roots. Too humble for the McTrophy Daycare Generation brats. How about grow up and face that the world isn't yours alone?
Bush was a bad President and Romney will probably be too. But neither as bad as Obama.
When George Washington and other great men founded this country, they didn't envision the government holding everybody's hand throughout every aspect of their lives. Government didn't take care of people's retirement income, they didn't take care of their health care. Hell, there wasn't even an income tax.
For most of this country's existence, people worked hard for what they got. Fortunately some still do. But for people like you who are unsuccessful, it's a lot more tasteful to blame someone else for your own failures than to blame yourself. It's the "evil" corporations faults. It's the rich guy's fault. It's George Bush's fault.
So how about you grow up and take responsibility for yourself instead of whining to the government to take care of you? Do you want the government to wipe your ass for you when you go to the bathroom too?
Or is this when you now tell me that even though you just cried to the government to take care of you, you are actually a very successful astronaut, rock star, nuclear scientist who gives most of his enormous earnings to charities?
Umm you people know ctviking is a brainless troll right?
Mass Hysteria.........
A clown car would be more a appropriate conveyance for this myopic blow up doll and his aging posse of cheerleaders than a rocket
This is news!!...............Please, let's deal with things that really matter.
" I meant to do that"
Is this a non sequitur or do you really live on Lot 4?
What a dip****. Just remember, as George Carlin said, we Americans love war and we're good at it. Now go finish your bowl of fruit loops.
Phil...Send one of your kids and grandkids to Iraq or Afghanistan. Then talk about how Americans love war. Only those private military contractors are the purveyors of war. How else can they make a decent profit if they can't send millions of sons and daughters to make obscene military profits for them? It's becoming more and more obvious that the US will never be in peacetime ever again...not when half of the red states need all that moolah those private military contractors are infusing their state economies with.
Some of us are fed up to the teeth with that BS. Enough to start demanding an end to huge defense budgets that only end up as a private miltiary contractors next Mercedes.
I wonder how many North Korean rocket scientists and their families just got sent to labor camps...
A total of two. The others are selling water and kolaches
Medic400...That's what is so pathetic about North Korea. It has always been an entire labor camp. There's nothing about North Korea that isn't a mass labor camp. Have you ever seen a North Korean military parade? It's about as over the top as it gets. Those poor North Korean people aren't human beings. They are robotic clones of the military leaders. They wouldn't know the meaning of the word "freedom", something too many Americans in this country take for granted.
"Hello Comrads, I come today to speak to you as the Head Buffoon of North Korea! Please ignore failed rocket test. It was a decoy. We still working on real rocket. It will send 10 volunteers to Uranus. We will be picking volunteers soon. All those who do not volunteer will be shot. Also to pay for such large undertaking we ask you stop eating everyday. Once a week is plenty. All helping with this undertaking will be honored. Remember though, if you look to healthy from eating too much, you will be shot. "
does he like american porn like his father? is that a good or bad sign??
his daddy liked high heels, too, and booze
I look at this boy and worry.. If he throws a tantrum which country is he going to try to blow up first.. Ughh who was the dumbass that gave the 16 year old keys to the country?
...his father
Korea, Vietnam, we Americans seem to have a fondness for peninsular wars
LOL bill you left out the daily war on the peninsula of Florida!!!
I considered adding Florida but wasn't sure which war. There appear to be several going on simultaneously
When the Spanish sold us Florida, we thought we got it for a song. Meanwhile Spain left laughing all the way to the bank.
Cirnobyl...And what exactly did you think old King Louis of France thought when he sold us all of the land that comprised the Louisiana Purchase for a mere $15 million? That land now comprises more than half of the north, mid and south west USA.
우리는 붐 망쳐 놨어!
You forgot the lotto number (a reference to a fortune cookie for that guy on Lot 4)
Hey Bill? Benjamin Franklin and Martin Luther King Jr. called - they said you're ruining their porch.
In other words, shut up with your racist one liners, will ya?
Victory over what???
Exactly my thoughts LindaMA, what victory is he talking about?
The way I read that, it may be victory in reclaiming the south. Not good for either side if the North is violating (or thinking of violating) the cease fire. Remember - technically the two halves are still at war, that's why South Korea has that strict set of laws regarding Korean youth and the army there.
Look at the reason North Korea really wants South Korea...South Korea is far more independent and financially stable as a result of its cooperation with the outside world North Korea so despises. That's what makes no sense. If North Korea could somehow manage to annex South Korea, North Korea would only be compounding its problems with mass starvation by adding millions of South Koreans to those barely surviving in North Korea.
That's what I was thinking. The victory of being able to launch a nuclear weapon? If that is the case, where do they want to send it? It would be different if the "final victory" were made clear.
Has anyone see the picture of lights on the earth at night? North Korea is DARK and most of its population is barely scratching out a living.
Final Victory for NK is always "become a strong nation that able to defend themselves from any evil countries" and evil countries are looking at their chance to attack HK any seconds".
They are supposed to fighting for their country by supporting their security force and their budget, over basic wellfare of their people.
Yet, not all NK people are poor and starved. For one, his brother, un-chosen son of Kim Jong Il, he is a rich kid, loves to travel western countries for gambling and shopping a lux items. That's a part of westernization that they have learned. Just like China, all top ranking are wealthy ( in their term ).
If China changes then NK will change.
When I see these videos of N. Korean soldiers and people applauding Fearless Leader continually, I think of the Soviet Union during the Stalin era. When Stalin gave a speech before the Politburo, he too would get long stretches of applause. It turned out that everyone knew that anyone who stopped applauding before Stalin gave a signal to stop would likely not be around much longer. Nice incentives, eh?
nothing but cults
While millions of North Koreans starve and I do literally mean starve this regime and this idiot spends money on failure after failure? Just have to wonder what role China plays in N Korea.
I think he's just as mental and dangerous as his father was.
cells that have gone errant and need to be cut out, eradicated, like cancer in the body
full of pride, arrogance, egotism, self-righteousness, haughtiness
leading people astray "... their word will eat as doth a canker of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus..."
I'd like to donate a tractor trailer load of Metamucil and prune juice to this man. He looks like he could really use some.
Good idea but the U.S. stop donating foodstuffs (pun) this morning.
And at the end of his speech there was a plate of cookies and he said "OMNOMNOMNOMNOM!"
