Subscribe to RSSKANO, Nigeria - Gunmen killed at least 15 people and wounded many more in an attack on a university theater being used by Christian worshippers in Nigeria's northern city of Kano on Sunday, a witness said.
It was the latest in a spate of attacks on churches and on Christian holidays in the north of the country, which Nigerian authorities and diplomats believe are part of an attempt to stoke a religious conflict.
Security sources said there was sporadic gunfire in other parts of the city which they believe was from attackers who were fleeing from the army at the university. "I counted at least 15 dead bodies. I think they were being taken to the Amino Kano teaching hospital," the witness, who did not wish to be identified, said, adding that he saw many more people being treated for injuries.
A security source said at least 15 people were dead and a source at the hospital told Reuters by phone that he had seen 10-15 dead bodies brought in with gunshot wounds.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
Radical Islamist sect Boko Haram, which wants to carve out an Islamic state in northern Nigeria, has killed hundreds in bomb and gun attacks this year. It mainly targets police and authority figures but has also attacked churches.

The army said it had secured the area but could not say how many people had been killed.
"The attack took place in one of the lecture theatres used as a place of worship by Christians. For sure there are casualties but I can't say how many," Ikedichi Iweha, an army spokesman, told Reuters.
"The elements came, used explosives and guns to attack them. We have repelled them and cordoned off the area," Iweha said.
Red Cross officials said they were trying to get access to the area but there were no details on casualties.
Bomb explosions
"For over 30 minutes a series of bomb explosions and gun shots took over the old campus, around the academic blocks," said Mohammed Suleiman, a history lecturer at the Bayero University.
"It started at about 0930 (1:30 a.m. ET) this morning ... our school security men had to run for their dear lives. You can see smoke all over," Suleiman said.
Clashes between Boko Haram gunmen and security forces have flared up several times in Kano since the sect killed 186 people in January, its deadliest attack so far.
On Easter Sunday, 36 people were killed when a suspected member of Boko Haram attempted to force a car packed with explosives into a church compound during a service in the northern town of Kaduna.

After being stopped by security he turned back and the bomb exploded by a large group of motorbike taxi riders.
Boko Haram set off a series of bombs across Nigeria on Christmas Day last year, including one at a church outside the capital Abuja that killed at least 37 people.
Africa's most populous nation of more than 160 million is split roughly equally between a largely Christian south and a mostly Muslim north.
Suicide car bombers targeted the offices of Nigerian newspaper This Day in the capital Abuja and in Kaduna last week, killing at least four people in coordinated strikes.
This Day is based in southern Nigeria and is broadly supportive of President Goodluck Jonathan's government - the main target of Boko Haram's insurgency.

This includes the Salem witch trials, Joan of Arc, Inquisitions, and the Crusades (there were 7 crusades and history has proven that they were defensive wars against Islamic usurpation of Christian Holy Lands at the time, but I'll grant it to Christianity for the sake of argument.

@Jonathan - 1982062 - Thanks for your points. Very few people have the nerve to publicly assert than these persecutions of Christians by Muslims are what they are. All I know is that Christianity was spread by preaching of the Gospel and managed to survive terrible persecutions (oddly enough, these persecutions were sanctioned by the state, just like in Nigeria and Sudan) in it's first 300 years, and Islam was spread by the sword in it's first 300 years.

He may have tried to use "Christianity" to rationalize his desire to irradicate the Jews specifically to people, but make no mistake, he was no Christian, or anything close to one.
He wanted to speed up the whole business of natural selection to allow only the fittest, in his eyes anyway, to inherit the earth as a master race (Blond Hair, Blue eyes, ect). Here's a thought. How about all Non Muslims get together to fight worldwide Muslim aggression. We're all threatened. Then we won't be bickering over who's interpretation of the bible or Jesus Christ is right. I think in this day and age Protestants and Catholics can live together. Islam is the only belief system on the face of the earth that seeks, by force , to eliminate the right of all other human beings to think what they want and form any other religious or philosophical system but Islam. Christians, Buddhists , Hindus, Jews , atheists , agnostics , etc. are not attacking and murdering people today , now , this year , this century because they have a different philosophy of life. Muslims are and are required to do so by the tenants of their religion. This is the salient , unassailable difference between it and any other world view today. And it is this reality , this distinction that manifests the unique danger it poses to mankind.

If you look it up, many scientists during the middle ages/renaissance were catholic, heck even the pope was a scientist. not to mention Newton, Galileo, Da Vinci, Colombus, etc.
Whether one likes it or not, The Catholics did more to advance science then one thinks. It was the monks who translated the works of the ancient Greeks into Latin and saved those works from the barbarian invaders. They also created the universities and hospitals in the west. Don't believe me? Oxford, Cambridge, or what once was University of Paris? Those are all medieval schools that were run by clergy.

There are individuals within the Catholic Church at all levels, who are guilty of grave sin, but it is not and was not anywhere in the Church's official teaching. In the Koran, Allah conveniently "revealed" to his Prophet that it was ok to consummate a marriage with a 9 year old girl. Her name was Aisha. This was after he had several wives and a number of concubines. Look it up. And, BTW, Madge--you might be interested to know that the testimony of a woman in Islamic Court is worth only 1/2 that of a man's. You can look that up, too. There are a number of good English translations of the Koran available, if you're interested in understanding the religion.
Uh, Unbelievable? This attack was a response to Christians butchering Muslims not too long ago. That was in turn a response to an earlier attack, which was a response to another, and so it goes on. Both sides are massacring each other over there. Don't turn a blind eye to just one side.

It was accepted long before Galileo that the earth was round. In fact it was believed by the Catholic Church in the 15th century it was round or the Catholic Sovereigns of Spain , Ferdinand and Isabella , would have never financed Columbus's voyage to China and India by sailing West rather than East. Long before Galileo the earth had been circumnavigated.

The Muslims have the moral sanction of their God to either
A) Wipe out everyone who isn't a Muslim, or
B) Make them all subservient to Muslim rule.

I think the honest and accurate headline should read something like, "Moslem attack on Christians in Nigeria kills at least 15." It's bad enough that Moslems are waging wars of aggression on many fronts around the globe for world domination and to end all religions other than their perverted version of Islam. Sounds like they're trying to start their own local Crusades.
It is pretty apparent that the "good" Muslims are either too cowardly to do anything to stop this type of beahvior or they actually condone what the "bad" Muslims are doing throughout the world. So, if the "good" Muslims are not going to do anything, I believe it is time that the rest of the world take action to destroy this disease. It is time for the rest of us to band together and stop this insanity and use whatever means necessary to accomplish some peace. The lowest rung in the ladder to Hell is reserved for those, who in a time of crisis, do nothing.
Well there is a silver lining. Just think how many would lose their jobs if we didn't have religion to fuel all these conflicts. Militaries would shrink, defense contractors would go out of business. Warlords and mercenaries would be reduced to poverty. Is that really a world you want to live in?
gee the U.S. was all for splitting up the SUDAN, how come it does not have it's nose in this fight? the U.S. needs another country to employ more of the 1%, with cushy jobs that pay real well just to spout off what they think once in awhile to show that they are earning THEIR dough!

For some reason, the PC version omits the part that these lands were the original lands of Christianity that had been usurped by the Muslims and the Byzantine Emperor asked (no, begged, actually) the Pope to send military assistance. There was at one time, a sizeable population of Christians in places like Egypt, Turkey and Iraq--try and find one now, they are rare as hen's teeth and getting more rare by the day.
The Bible teaches the the maturing Christian will come to maturity in Christ, and the unbeliever will not see it until they come to believe. They will see something but they will not understand what they see, which is God's love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and self-control. The true Christian is a person of life, not death.
The Koran however teaches death to all who refuse to convert to Islam, a religion of death and not life.
God is the one who causes the true believer to be what He desires them to be, Islam however teaches you must make yourself to be something that you cannot be without the Son of God in their lives.
