Bin Laden told followers: Kill Obama so 'utterly unprepared' Joe Biden becomes US president

As the raid on Osama bin Laden was carried out, the president and his advisors in the Situation Room nervously listened for bin Laden's call name, 'Geronimo.' Once they heard 'Geronimo KIA,' the first confirmation that bin Laden was dead, the mission was still far from over. Brian Williams reports.

Osama bin Laden wanted to assassinate Barack Obama so that the "utterly unprepared" Joe Biden would become U.S. president, according to documents seized last year during the U.S. raid that killed the al-Qaida leader.

In letters from his last hideout -- according to a report called "Letters from Abbottabad: Bin Ladin Sidelined?" that was posted online Thursday by the U.S. Army's Combating Terrorism Center -- bin Laden also fretted about dysfunction in his terrorist network and the loss of trust from Muslims he wished to incite against their government and the West.

Read the Combating Terrorism Center's report (pdf)

Other materials found inside the compound last May have revealed how al-Qaida's then leader regularly ordered his subordinates to plan new attacks, despite an increasingly limited cadre of operatives.

Bin Laden in hiding: Hatching horrific plots despite crippling attacks on al-Qaida

During the raid, Navy SEALs recovered five computers, 10 hard drives and more than 100 storage devices -- DVDs, discs and thumb drives --  that included between 10,000 and 15,000 documents and between 15,000 to 25,000 videos, including a large number of duplicate files.

U.S. forces found and killed the al-Qaida leader in the affluent Pakistani town of Abbottabad, where he had been living in a large compound.

Al-Qaida hoped to convert Irish?

The documents also contained some slightly odd revelations, including the idea that al-Qaida thought Irish Catholics might be ripe for conversion to Islam.

“I noticed the sympathy of the Irish people to the Palestinian issue, and the soft treatment by the Irish Judicial system of Muslims accused of terrorism, and also not participating with its troops in [President George W.] Bush’s Crusade wars,” American al-Qaida spokesman Adam Gadahn wrote in a letter.

“The other matter is the increasing anger in Ireland towards the Catholic Church after exposing a number of sex scandals … The people there are moving towards secularism, after it was the most religious of atheist Europe, and why do not we face them with Islam?” he added.

Al-Qaida also fretted over its brand name. One document discussed how the group’s name was shortened from Qaida al-Jihad to al-Qaida and “this name reduces the feeling of Muslims that we belong to them.” It suggested names that could not be easily shortened “to a word that does not represent us.”

Those included “Muslim Unity Group,” “Restoration of the Caliphate Group,” and “Jihad Organization for the Unification and Rescue of the Nation.”

Al-Qaida also appears to have had a particular dislike for Fox News.

Talking about sending an al-Qaida message to the media, the spokesman Gadahn wrote, “I suggest that we should distribute it to more than one channel, so that there will be healthy competition between the channels in broadcasting the material, so that no other channel takes the lead. It should be sent for example to ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN and maybe PBS and VOA.”

However Fox News, Gadahn said, should be left out the loop.

“As for Fox News, let her die in her anger,” he wrote.

What begs the question is Obama was the best ally by proxy bin Laden had. Obama is doing permanent economic damage to the US that bin Laden could only dream of doing. They were on the same team ... Then Obama goes and kills bin Laden. You know bin Laden must be somewhere saying "WTF?" But Obama continues the battle against a bright American future in honor of bin Laden. Nobody is safe with Obama at the helm. He'll throw anyone under the bus.

STexan,

What's wrong with you? Over 60% of Americans agree, Republicans caused the current economic crisis. Congress does 100% of the spending and they've controlled congress for 10 of the last 12 years. Also, the majority of jobs lost were lost under Bush and the Republican Congress. Sounds to me like America's enemies have their closest ally in the GOP. Obama has done more damage to Islamic terrorists than Bush did, and come to think of it, Bush didn't really do any significant damage to them at all. He talked a big game, 911 was every other word out of his mouth, but when it came to action, well, he was utterly useless.

Well, if you can't refute the above comments because reality get's in the way, then by all means, you need to remain silent. It's honestly not "partisan politics". When a POTUS does 10 things and of those, 9 things can only serve to hinder or reduce economic growth and vitality, I have to call foul, regardless what party is in charge. And currently that happens to be a very liberal "democrat". "Democrat" is not the proper party affiliation title for Obama, and you know that as well as we do.

Though I agree, Biden would be a scary (though funny) president. I don't think he would be any worse than our present Commander in chief. The real issue is why in the world are these documents being released to the press? His death was announced imediately (another huge mistake). That information should have been held back until all the actinable info. was acted upon. How did we get to the place where our politicians choose politics over national security?

Wet Willy,

Actually, the Obama campaign is sitting on a huge bomb that they're gonna release this summer, and that's Mitt's voter fraud.

The Republicans have been bitching and whining about supposed "voter fraud" for some time now, however, they've never actually been able to show evidence of a single fraudulent vote being cast. Until now, of course, what they didn't expect, however, was that it would be their own presidential nominee. In January 2010, Mitt Romney boasted publicly about casting a vote in Massachusetts for Scott Brown to replace the late Ted Kennedy. What's the problem you ask? In 2010, Mitt Romney lived in California. He didn't own property in Massachusetts, and lied on the voter registration form, listing his son's unfinished basement as his place of residence. Massachusetts law defines a residence for voter registration purposes as “where a person dwells and which is the center of his domestic, social, and civil life.” Anyone found guilty of committing voter fraud faces up to five years behind bars and a fine of $10,000.

If Massachusetts decides to prosecute, Mitt could be disqualified as a presidential candidate as voter fraud is a felony. The Ron Paul advocates are also banking on this as their chance for Dr. Paul to sweep into the convention and take the nomination.

Actually what begs the question is why the Bu@!$%#es didn't go after OBL in the first place other than to chase him across the border at Tora Bora? He was Cheney's greatest proxy in that he provided the "New Pearl Harbor" on 9/11 that the neocons had long desired. And they didn't waste their chance.

But that quote is idiotic talking point nonsense. Do you seriously believe the US economy is in worse shape now than when Obama took over in Jan '09? Seriously? I am beginning to think the opposition reported for mass lobotomies and we somehow missed coverage of the occasion. They don't live in a world guided by reality.

One would think that if the liberals were so sure of re-election they would not entertain the arguments they do on this blog. I believe this is going to get close in the last 3 months. And get very nasty. Specially if the HRC is repealed by the SCOTUS. That would make two SCOTUS repeals in the same year, Immigration (which is sure) and the HRC bill. The best liberal statement of the year was Sotomayor's comment to Mr Obama's lawyers. A comment Sotomayor directed at Verrilli — “You can see (your argument is) not selling very well”

Allen,

Incorrect, the SCOTUS is also under right wing control, and technically, they are 1/3 of the government, and, on top of that, they have unquestionable power.

Polling data, that is only a google search away, shows that a majority of Americans correctly blame Republicans for the economic crisis. I challenge you to cite which policies you think caused this mess. I can. Republicans like to blame, through code speech, black people for the economic crisis. They tell us it's because of the Community Reinvestment Act of 1978, that forced banks to stop discriminating against potential borrowers on the basis of race and geography when making lending decisions. The fact is, however, that less than 18% of the loans that have gone into default since then were issued under the act. So that's not it.

What is? Well, I can't say that Democrats are completely blameless, Bill Clinton played a role. The Republican Congress put a bill on his desk removing the separation of commercial banks and investment banks, allowing for massive financial entities to dominate, making it less risky to issue more loans and bigger loans. Then, a completely Republican action that did the worst damage was immediately after George W. Bush took office in 2001. He pushed a bill through the Republican Congress that took away from average Americans the ability to escape debt through bankruptcy protection, while leaving it in place for major corporations and the super wealthy. This had a major effect on the lending industry, the banks figured since people could no longer escape debt, and they could follow people with their debt for the rest of their lives, they could now give out more loans and bigger loans, and they could give loans to less credit worthy people. And so they did, and the "sub-prime" mortgage was born. This caused home prices to skyrocket because anyone could now get a massive loan, whether they deserved it or not, and the banks would trick people by telling them they were qualified for much bigger loans than the bank knew they could afford. Then, once the payments started to balloon, people started defaulting on their loans, and this, a crisis was born, thanks, in most part, to the Republicans.

Wet Willy,

Not a delusion, it's 100% true. Do I seriously think Mitt will be prosecuted? Of course not, he's rich, rich people are allowed to break the law. But check your facts, Mitt did break the law.

Canon,

Thank you for the correction, Republicans have controlled Congress for 8 of the last 12 years. Funny thing is, for all their talk about deficit spending, they haven't passed a single balanced budget in this century.

    truth seeker,

The right wing-nuts are traitors, according to their own words, anyway. These people that we see criticizing President Obama all day every day, are the same people that, during the Bush era, told us that if you ever disagree with the president, it's because you hate America, you're a traitor and you love terrorists.

So according to Republican words, Republicans are the biggest bunch of America hating, treasonous terrorists.

    truetexan,

Incorrect. Right now, on the electoral map (the only data that really matters) President Obama hold a commanding lead over Romney. Romney has no viable path to 270. Obama currently leads in every single swing state. If the election were held today, Obama would win with 347 electoral votes to 191 for Romney.

Polling data, that is only a google search away, shows that a majority of Americans correctly blame Republicans for the economic crisis.

The day the democrats took over was not January 22nd 2009, it was actually January 3rd 2007 the day the Democrats took over the House of Representatives and the Senate, at the very start of the 110th Congress.

The Democrat Party controlled a majority in both chambers for the first time since the end of the 103rd Congress in 1995.

For those who are listening to the liberals propagating the fallacy that everything is "Bush's Fault", think about this:

January 3rd, 2007 was the day the Democrats took over the Senate and the Congress. At the time:

The DOW Jones closed at 12,621.77

The GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5%

    The Unemployment rate was 4.6%

George Bush's Economic policies SET A RECORD of 52 STRAIGHT MONTHS of JOB GROWTH

    Remember the day...

January 3rd, 2007 was the day that Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee.

The economic meltdown that happened 15 months later was in what part of the economy?

    BANKING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES!

Unemployment... to this CRISIS by (among MANY other things) dumping 5-6 TRILLION Dollars of toxic loans on the economy from YOUR Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac FIASCOES!

Bush asked Congress 17 TIMES to stop Fannie & Freddie - starting in 2001 because it was financially risky for the US economy.

And who took the THIRD highest pay-off from Fannie Mae AND Freddie Mac? OBAMA

And who fought against reform of Fannie and Freddie?

    OBAMA and the Democrat Congress

So when someone tries to blame Bush..

REMEMBER JANUARY 3rd, 2007.... THE DAY THE DEMOCRATS TOOK OVER!"

Budgets do not come from the White House. They come from Congress and the party that controlled Congress since January 2007 is the Democrat Party.

Furthermore, the Democrats controlled the budget process for 2008 & 2009 as well as 2010 &2011.

In that first year, they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases.

For 2009 though, Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the 2009 budgets.

And where was Barack Obama during this time? He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete 2009.

If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets.

If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself. In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is I inherited a deficit that I voted for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January 20th.

Take your liberal lies somewhere else, Virginia Democrat.

Obviously the same is true in reverse. I don't understand some of the changes we have made politically. I'm moderately left but, to me, these are not partisan issues. "The Obama bunch is trying to get as much political mileage as they can out of the Bin laden killing. I bet, since they have nothing else, they'll be using this well into the autumn"

Oh how ignorant of you. Just because he does not have a news organization to trumpet his accomplishments 24/7 does not mean he has "done nothing". Below is a list of what Obama has done in his first year (That's right, in his first year. This list does not even include what he did in 2010 or 2011, because that would make the already long list ridiculously long).

Well we can see what happened when repubs controlled the congress .. the senate . the White House ...from Jan 2003..to Jan 2007...what a mess ..and you want them back in ...

and I keep hearing about dems having a super majority ...where...I remember record republican filibusters and blue dog dems who really didn't do all that well in the 2012 elections took a bite out of that ...

but one thing the repubs sure did do..

Republicans Push Tax Bill Through House
      Associated Press
      December 8, 2006;

WASHINGTON -- Rejected by voters and limping off stage, the Republican-led Congress muscled through a sweeping bill reviving expired tax breaks, extending trade benefits for developing countries and protecting doctors from a big cut in Medicare payments.

The Senate cleared the bill for President Bush's signature early Saturday by a 79-9 vote. Final adjournment loomed.

But Republicans dumped an unfinished budget on the Democrats about to take power, with the Senate barely meeting a midnight deadline to pass a stopgap spending bill putting the government on autopilot until Feb. 15.

The failure to pass budget bills for domestic agencies, said Rep. David Obey, D-Wis., amounted to "a blatant admission of abject failure by the most useless Congress in modern times."

Osama bin Laden was a delusional freak who murdered thousands of Americans. An attack against our president, any president, is an attack against the choice of a free people...regardless of party. If that had happened, Joe Biden would have been prepared, and the overwhelming majority of Americans would have supported him. That is something about us terrorists simply don't understand...

For anyone else who refuses to see the truth, check out this website. It has a more current list of what the Obama administration has accomplished.

        http://obamaachievements.org/list#

Here's a piece of advice for you people asking "what has Obama done?" Go look for yourself. You can EASILY look up what the Obama administration has accomplished. Just google it. Don't expect the Obama campaign or random strangers on the internet to spoon feed you basic information that anyone who has any internet experience knows how to find. Part of being an informed citizen is taking it upon yourself to stay informed.

And truetexan, please state for me 1 thing that you are unsatisfied with. Name 1 thing. Seriously, I challenge you to find 1 thing that is worse now than it was before Obama's policies took affect. Until you actually bring up actual things to talk about, you are not contributing to the discussion at all. You're just screaming talking points at the top of your lungs.

        "Bush quit looking for him"

Are you freakin' INSANE? The TRUTH is that operation to find bin Laden began in 2005. It was built on four "pillars" — bin Laden's family, his communications with top al-Qaida leaders, his occasional outreach to the media and his use of a courier network.

This operation continued UNABATED until he was found. As usual, Obama just tagged along with the policies that Bush began and tries to take credit for them - even though he was adamantly opposed to these policies when they were implemented.

The "pillar" that eventually bore fruit was the courier network AFTER the enhanced interrogation of captured Al Qaeda operatives uncovered the code name of a courier.

The Left makes much of some statements by GW Bush about OBL not being a "high priority".

Which would make more sense? Getting OBL to believe that the heat was off so he would relax and lower his guard or saying the OBL's capture was the highest priority of the government and they were relentlessly searching for him so he would continue to move from place to place?

That's the difference between Bush and Obama. Bush would endure the inevitable ridicule of the Left and their media wh0res for the sake of the mission and the good of the country - something an egomaniac like Obama would never even consider.

SHOVED "health care" down our throats all the while giving his contributers a PASS on it. Again google it for yourself. Apologized for America to foriegn countries. Lied about "shouvel ready" jobs. "Research before you spout!"

I am calmly stating facts. You are angrily stating talking points. Who is "spouting"?

"ob has put us in MORE debt in 3 & 1/2 years than G.W. did in 8."

GW increased the federal debt by over 80%. Obama increases it by less than 40%. And do you know why the debt has increased under Obama? Because of historically low taxes and historically low revenues — and the worst financial crash since the 1930s. Do you honestly believe that there was suddenly a binge in spending? If there was, where is all of this sudden spending going? Where has this sudden influx of cash gone? Or maybe, just maybe, it's just that there is no cash at all.

"SHOVED "health care" down our throats"

What you and a lot of other people don't understand is that the medical field already has special rules about it. Hospitals HAVE to treat patients, even if they can't pay for it. Name another industry that the government forces the company to provide their good/service even if the customer can't pay for it. The medical field already has special rules, it can handle another one. And there are other things the government makes people do. People have to pay taxes. Men have to register for the draft. People have to do jury duty. It is well established that the government can force people into doing some things and that the medical industry has special rules that don't apply to the rest of the market.

"Apologized for America to foriegn countries."

After how Americans have acted in the past 30/40 years, there is a hell of a lot to apologize for. This is called diplomacy. Sorry he doesn't insult world leaders and act like an arrogant idiot.

As for "shouvel read jobs", I don't know what that means. But I do know that EVERY financial expert agrees that the economy would be much worse today if it weren't for Obama's policies.

The only thing believeable in the story is that Navy seals killed an Al Qaida leader Not specificaly Bin Laden and During the raid, Navy SEALs recovered five computers, 10 hard drives and more than 100 storage devices -- DVDs, discs and thumb drives -- that included between 10,000 and 15,000 documents and between 15,000 to 25,000 videos, including a large number of duplicate files.

Quoting a U.S.-based Pakistani financier, and Fox News annalist who brought us Clinton turned down offer to get bin laden

Pakistan struck deal with U.S. on Osama'

        By Hasan Suroor

        LONDON AUG. 23.2003

A British newspaper report today claimed that the Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, struck a "deal" with the United States not to seize Osama bin-Laden immediately after the Afghanistan war for "fear of inciting trouble in his own country".

The Guardian, in a front-page "special investigation", said that despite their public commitment to hunt down the Al-Qaeda leader, the Pakistani authorities had a "private" strategy to go slow.

Quoting a U.S.-based Pakistani financier, Mansoor Ijaz, who is said to have close contacts with Pakistan's intelligence agencies, the newspaper said: "Mr. Ijaz believes an agreement was reached between Gen. Musharraf and the American authorities shortly after bin Laden's flight from Tora Bora

. The Pakistanis feared that to capture or kill bin-Laden so soon after a deeply unpopular war in Afghanistan would incite civil unrest in Pakistan and would trigger a spate of revenge al-Qaeda attacks on Western targets across the world."

Mr. Ijaz was directly quoted as saying that "there was a judgment made that it would be more destabilising in the longer term" to capture bin-Laden while passions over the war in Afghanistan were still running high. The argument was that in any case "there would still be the ability to get him at a later date when it was more appropriate".

According to him, Americans agreed because of their "shift in focus" to Iraq, and so in the following months the efforts centred on dismantling the al-Qaeda infrastructure rather than capturing bin Laden.

The strategy, the report claimed, allowed Gen. Musharraf to put out "conflicting" accounts of bin Laden's status — stating once that he believed the man was dead — while the U.S. administration "barely mentioned his name". Seeking to establish the credibility of its source, it described Mr. Ijaz as someone who "knows al-Qaeda better than most... has close contacts in Pakistan's intelligence agencies and has worked, behind the scenes, as negotiator over bin Laden in the past".

Really stevasorus? "This nation was doing fine until the last two years of the Bush administration , when the Democrats controlled the house and senate."

You're going to blame the financial crisis on the Democratic controlled Congress? Not the housing market? Not the housing bubble that collapsed? Not the financial industry that compounded the problem through derivatives and other shady banking practices? Not the Republicans for removing the regulations that allowed the banks to get away with these shady practices?

And you want to blame the Democrats for the federal debt. Not the Republican's unprecedented tax cuts that we could not afford? Not the Republican's 2 unfunded wars that we could not afford? Not the Republican controlled White House and Congress that took a surplus from Clinton and turned it into an unprecedented debt explosion?

You're right. Don't blame the people that caused the explosion. Just blame the people that were standing next to it when it went off.

Not only is he NOT a "disappointment," he's pretty much the opposite. And no, I don't just say that because he took out Osama bin Laden, helped Libya determine their own destiny for the first time in a while, and because he seems able to handle international incidents without starting a new war. The guy does nearly everything we elect a president to do, and he doesn't brag about it constantly.

Is he perfect? No, he's human. Does he deserve some criticism? I suppose, but I must admit I haven't seen any complaints that were based on anything having to do with the real world. One I can't forgive him for is pulling Janet Napolitano out of Arizona. But the thing is, on balance, he's mostly stellar. Besides, criticism about certain specific problems is one thing; taking on an overall "Obama sucks" meme not only has the potential to put Willard Romney into power, it's also a lie. Just because you wanted a president who would give you a glitter-farting unicorn and didn't quite get that doesn't mean he's not doing well at the job we hired him for.

But that does not explain the real financial crisis truetexan. If the only problem was that people were not able to afford their home mortgages, then the only thing that would have happened would have been that tons of people lost their homes.

But in reality, people lost their homes, which set of a chain reaction. A chain reaction that was caused by the deregulation of the industry. The financial industry turned an arithmetic problem (linear) into a geometric problem (exponential).

The debt was chopped up, packaged, and disguised as safe investments. And of course it didn't help that no one was paying attention to check whether or not the insurance companies that backed these banks actually had the money to cover them.

The problem was WAY more complex than just that one law. I agree that it helped create the problem, but it played a minor role.

Seriously, unless you actually want to discuss actual things, stop responding to me. All you are doing is attempting to silence me through personal attacks. How will I be amazed come November? Obama leads Romney in all polls. And when the Tea Party puts out their own candidate (because there is no way they will vote for Romney), they will split the conservative vote, bringing Romney's numbers down further. I have absolutely no worries at all about Obama getting reelected.

I guess stating facts is "showing my liberal colors". But I guess that makes sense. We all know that facts and reality have a known liberal bias

I have done everything you asked me to do. You have just failed to do the same. If you had, you would have googled a few facts. I NEVER want to silence anyone. That is what the liberals want to do. I just find liberal minds funny and twisted but never would I think of silencing you. Have a great day.

If a liberal doesnt like what they are hearing they try to silence you. A conservative will turn the station.

If a liberal doesnt believe in guns they want them taken away wher a conservative just wont buy one.

If a liberal doesnt like smoking, fatty foods, or anything else unhealthy they want it banned. A conservative will choose to not buy them.

If a liberal doesnt like gas guzzlers they want them banned. A conservative will choose to not buy one.

A liberal wakes up thinking what can the gov. do for ME today?

A conservative wakes up thinking what can I DO to better myself today?

And so on and so on.

        It's called freedom!

        Again...have a great day.

@madd-dawg17, according to your statistics GWB in 8 years increased the debt 80%. BO in under 4 years increased it under 40%. That to me sounds like they are on the same track. Oh and I believe you wanted to know where the money was going. Look over your list of things Obama has "accomplished" in his tenure. Here's just a few:

        • Saved the auto industry... (by) bailing them out
        • Made the environment a national priority (Solyndra)
        • $789 billion stimulus plan (which nearly every economist says was a failure)
        • "Cash for Clunkers" (do you honestly think old junk cars were worth any newer vehicle's price?)
        • American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (your data is as of 2009, I'd check the updates on that)
        • Allows families of fallen soldiers to have expenses (noble, but where is the money coming from?)
        • Provided... VA with... $1.4 billion (I ask again, where did the money come from?)
        • Encouraged Federal support of stem-cell research (Yet again)
        • Budgeted for high-speed, broadband... to K-12 (I don't know about you, but I went to the library and hand wrote all my notes. Do children today honestly need this?)
        • Increased infrastructure spending (again a noble goal, but in my area, roads are still in dire need of repair so it's either not enough or was misused. Either way what does that sound like?)
        • Donated his $1.4 million Nobel Peace prize to nonprofit (off topic, but a blatant tax write off for him)
        • Increased student loans (and where are these students now?)
        • Limited salaries of... aides (what about everyone else?)
        • Lowered drug costs for seniors (another noble, but who's picking up the slack?)
        • Made more loans... for small businesses (in the meantime, also increasing regulations making it difficult for said businesses to comply and requires even more money)
        • Ordered all federal agencies... study... ways to cut spending (have they done so yet?)
        • Ordered review of all federal operations to... cut spending (you repeated yourself from above, not sure if you noticed but I have to ask again, have they done so yet?)
        • Provided tax credit to... 95% of America's working families (so less money was going into the system and he still hasn't actually increased taxes on the rich. Anyone who thinks the Buffet rule will stand for long or will be followed at all, regardless of who is in control, is fooling themselves or simply that naive.)
        • Removed restrictions on... stem-cell research (another repeat. Trying to make the list more impressive or something?)
        • Sent envoys to the Middle East... reengagin in... diplomacy (not only is this money being spent but half of those countries have been and still are quite hostile to the US with no real signs of improvment. Now Egypt has mentioned a turn of hostilities as well after long-standing neutral leader Mubarak was ousted.)
        • Earth Day 2009 (money spent on research that may or may not prove to generate power much farther than coastal regions)
        • ...public to meet with... insurers to... mortgage if they are having trouble paying (my parents are in this boat and those people laughed at them. Fat lot of good that's doin.)
        • Implemented US... banking rescue plan (1% alert!)
        • Improved relations with Iran (again off topic, but the people who smile in your face and stab you in the back, you mean?)
        • Improved relations with Russia (again off topic, but I never saw Russia disarm any of their nuclear arsenal when we were compelled to)
        • Created jobs... causing unemployment to decrease (again, check your data for up-to-date numbers. Make sure you factor in people who no longer are eligible for unemployment.)
        • Saved Wall Street (1% alert!)
        • Signed the healthcare reform laws (the biggest draw of money and I am asking once more, where is it coming from?)

As a side note, you had other things that were repeating so I can only assume this list, whoever wrote it, was attempting to make it look impressive.

why don't all you wing nuts, who seem to be the only people who comment, give it a rest and stop your stupid bickering? We are in serious trouble. even this story about a thankfully dead terrorist has serious implications for us. All of our politicians of both parties are dysfunctional (in large part because of the table you and our ridiculos press all set for them)l, and all you do is attack each other mindlessly. Small wonder Osama bin Ladin got a pass from the U.S. for ten years after launching the bloodiest attack in our history on our soillaunched by a foreign invader during the Bush/Cheney watch.

U-N-B-E-L-I-E-V-A-B-L-E! Back and forth rants is just one of the many reasons the US is in the shape it's in! Scary to even think how much time OBL spent examining the US, with it's faults and vulnerabilities. For a secluded zealot, he sure knew a lot about the Americans' habits. And, knew our weaknesses as well. Scary that he mentioned the Irish; trying to draw other nations into his theater of terror. Also, interesting to read about the time he spent analyzing our media. I'm sure it didn't stop there. Anyway, just listen to this mom and I'll tell you all the struggles a so called "middle class" member has seen the last 20 years. It's the same pattern over and over. I am a housewife and mother of almost 20 years-that's my credentials. Lived through the rise and fall of the price of gas, heating oil, propane, food, medical expenses, education, etc. etc. etc. I've experienced both political parties equally in office. I feel sorry for people who are deceived into believing staged statistics that the media conjures up for their own benefit. "over 60%....." doesn't she even realize who they hand picked for their study? They are rediculously fixed. You honestly can not be that naive! And for the one who took the time to cut/paste Obama's list of so called accomplishments, let's be honest here. Again, I remind you I'm a housewife of almost 20 years. My husband has worked long and hard to provide for his wife and children. Rising gas prices, rising heating oil prices, rising food prices, etc. etc. etc. coupled with lack of good paying jobs for husbands to support their families because they've been forced to compete with more than just honest, hard working husbands that there aren't any jobs for men to be the bread winners anymore. Now EVERYONE is equal- so goes the pay. Now there is only mediocre blue collar jobs because they employ men AND women competing for the same jobs. Now instead of a man being able to work for, say for the sake of example, $25/hour, they will only pay $12.50/hour so the wife is forced to leave the home and work for no more than than what the husband makes.(in middle class examples). Now, we have a break down in the home. Kids are forced to fend for themselves, or at the least, be taken care of by siblings. And, no, we don't own new cars with car payments, or we didn't buy a house over what we could afford. We are just trying to make ends meet with 1 used car (no car payment) and a low house payment. Almost $200/week just to by gas. Yikes! And hamburger over $4.00/lb! And that's just two examples! I'm sure you all are just as aware as I am. Oh, and I didn't even mention medical premiums, deductibles and charges. Yep, my husband pays these as well. In fact, the premium gets deducted from his pay. And we received a letter along with his medical plan that read something like this....if we receive free medical care for our children, we might qualify to get our medical premiums payed for too. Um, no we don't qualify for free medical care for our kids and whose paying for that anyway? Are you kidding me!!!!!! Our country is turning into a welfare nation!!!! And that's exactly how the current government wants it! The hard working middle class whose paycheck won't last the 2 weeks that it is given is paying for most of Obama's accomplishments. At the least you can say thanks to whom thanks is due. This, my friends is just the tip of the iceberg!

@ madd-dawg - I feel so sorry for you when you can consider the list of "accomplishments" you posted a good thing. For the rest of it, it spells bankruptcy for us and our children. It really maddens me because most of the money would have been wasted just as easily by opening a window and throwing it out. We didn't need to spend a majority of this money, and certainly not in the way it was spent. We don't need any more ignorant decisions from our govt.

I voted for BO and I wouldn't sit here and say he's been the greatest president but he has handled a lot in such a short time. The economy went to complete pot weeks before he took office. Agree or not, many economist say the stimulus staved off an even worse situation. He restructered GM after the previouse Admin gave the 13 billion and said good luck I'm out. Dueces!!! We had the whole healthcare debacle. I don't know if is going to do what they said but I see the intention. We had the BP oil spill. I'm from LA and I'm telling you, people and buisness were compensated from that 20B that he wanted them to put aside. Killed OBL, the number 2 guy, and a whole bunch of others. Who did the last Admin. kill? Saddam? Look at the number of drones attacks in Afghan. I'm also a Vet who served in Afghan. He got other muslim countries (Arab Nation) to agree to help go after Gadhafi. We didn't lose one life. He's been a pretty decent Pres. People talk about securing the border, he place more border patrol agents on the border, deport a record number of illegals, added drone tech to help agents but he doesn't get the credit. He's economic policies are whats hindering him and part of that is tied up in the ups and downs of Europe.

Did you hear Carter whine when the embassy in Tehran was taken over by the Iranians?

The deficit is $5 trillion higher, Gitmo is wide open and we'll be in Afghanistan until 2024 at least. Medicare and Social Security are WORSE off than when he took over.

The Republicans stated that their first priority is making Obama a 1 term President. Their first priority is NOT the American people and what is good for the USA.

You aren't that dumb, so you must just be deluded. If he had cut the deficit in half right away, we would have been in a depression that would ahve made 1932 look like prosperity. That would have been stupid. He couldn't close Gitmo becasue he was obstructed from doing so by the republicans. Social Security needs to wait until the Bush depression is over and then I'm sure the repuiblicans will obstruct the increase in taxes or postponement of benefits it will require. etc. Medicare could ahve been in much better shape if it was given to all.

Right now we're in a situation where if something happens to Obama, we'll have to replace one idiot with another. Feel Better? Interestingly enough, the political left behaves more like Islamic extremists. They want to silence opposing viewpoints--by intimidation and coercion if necessary and will riot in the streets if they don't get their way (Occupiers and Madison, WI teacher's unions). They dehumanize their opposition making it easier to justify their actions (the endless namecalling--homophobes, racists, etc.). Who will be the liberal Torquemada--running the liberal inquisition?

First: you'll have a very difficult time finding an example of "the left" campaigning on, and around, religion. The other side? Well, they aren't called the "Religious Right" for nothing.

Second: Silencing opposing viewpoints.... intimidation.... coercion....

I don't think Limbaugh's working for "the left", mmmmkay?

Incidentally, you'd be better served looking after your own integrity than challenging mine.

See, here's another example of how the right works: you people talk a great game about "freedom", but you just can't keep your noses out of others' business no matter what. Clean up your own mess before you worry about anyone else's. It'll keep you busy for awhile if you work at it at all.

Inkblot: 1. Name one democratic presidential candidate who avoided his religion entirely... (Good luck on that one--I go back to Kennedy's time--hence the OLD School)

                    2. when has limbaugh insisted that anyone be silenced? He certainly mocks opposing viewpoints but never wants them silenced. They give him too much material to use!

                    3. To your last point (which contained only generalized accusations--flimsy at best). The left is the one sticking noses into places it doesn't belong: What car I should drive, what my healthcare coverage should be, etc. The left are the true robbers of freedoms.

But as you appear to be a true believer of the left (are you going to apply for that liberal Torquemada position?), I doubt you will see these as intrusions on freedoms.

I had bigger hopes - my only issue is Obama sucks....but..so does everyone else that supposedly represents us. Not his fault - it's the system. I was ready for a change - and - same old same old.

Anyone that thinks our government represents or cares about the people of this country is a fool - and it is NOT a republican/democrat/crazy lady from Alaska thing.

Sorry - that was too harsh. Maybe you are happy with the way things are - great!

I just feel that we could be SO much better as a nation - I am...disappointed. No, I don't think all people are fools - but - please - take more interest in the state of the nation - the middle class - and - don't swallow all the junk that you are told. Please - it is patriotic to dissent - to NEED to be counted.

Yes - we need government - but, IMO - the government focus should be on maintaining stability and welfare of the middle class - the RICH will, and always have (to the middle class detriment) take care of themselves. The middle class IS this country.

Draconian: what kind of a miracle could ANY president pull off in three years? EVERYTHING was crumbling--the banks, the car manufacturers, mortgage companies. The Republicans ran McCain against Obama, which is like admitting that they didn't want to tackle the current administration's problems. Did they think McCain was getting better with age, even though he LOST eight years prior?

Now we've got more deportations of illegals than any previous administration, we rescued the car insurance companies and thousands of jobs, avoided the collapse of banks and Wall Street... I daresay McCain wouldn't have done as well!

Agreed - see - it isn't the person - it's the system. It's why I really don't blame Obama - although - I was hopeful that he could start to get things turned around.

The issue is that this country, for quite a few years now - has been run by the elite - without regard to the middle class. All of the things that you site as rescues and such - would not have happened if the people in Washington were looking after their main constituents - the middle class.

The crumbling as you call it - only happens when the middle class is neglected.

Make it IMPOSSIBLE to run for Congress or higher if you have ever made more than...say..100? 200? thousand a year - still - a hell of a lot of money. There are a hell of a lot smart poor people, and a hell of a lot dumb rich people.

Get people in Washington that are actually affected by increases in the costs of bread, gas, whatever - people that will care about - the middle class.

If a person is a multi millionare / billionaire - they step on heads for a living (for the most part) - are they going to give a crap that you make 35K a year and work your butt off?

The circumstances that would lead to a succession beyond the VP are so improbable..who cares? There have been plenty of scary possibilities over the years on both parties in that remote scenario.

VP, on the other than, is thinkable..as even recent history has demonstrated. Sadly, VPs aren't picked for their presidential abilities...yet one more failing of the political system we have.

obama's main qualification (IMO) was a good understanding of "the world", and that has been reflected in a pretty good foreign policy. The president's biggest direct impact is in the area of foreign policy (most other things being filtered through coongress), so focusing on foreign policy for potential president candidates is a pretty good filter.

as opposed to, say, bush and palin whose understanding of "the world" could fit onto an index card.

Vermont: His foreign policy hasn't really differed too much from GWB's. Troops are still going to be in Iraq and Afghanistan. Gitmo is still open. Libya was a GWB type move (albeit cloaked in NATO). In the main, he has conceded that most of what GWB did was right by his actions even if his words indicate otherwise. Have a great day.

Actually, his APPROACH to foreign policy is MUCH DIFFERENT than bush's. Bush was "i'm the president of the US and i'm gonna do whatever I want, the rest of the world can GTH". Obama's isn't. Bush was happy to jump into absurd events like the iraq invasion/nation building..that would NEVER have happened under obama. Huge difference as on obvious example.

Again, I think obama's view of "the world" was pretty sound, and that made it a very important qualification for president.

just imagine if McCain won - we'd not only be in 3 wars - iraq, afgahastan and iran but we'd have palin as the vp - i didn't think anybody could beat W out as unprepared - enter palin - simplest of the simple.

Vermont: His approach is simply outward. His actions are the essentially the same. Ironically, he is even using UBL's assassination as a campaign tool--much as GWB did with his "mission accomplished" moment (at the time I was very PO'ed when GWB did that). Even there he is the same.

Time for a little truth here.

The whole Bush/mission accomplished canard is a TOTAL LIE.

It wasn't Bush's people that had that banner put up. It was the ship's CAPTAIN. It was to congratulate the CREW on the successful completion of the SHIP'S MISSION.

But, of course, the Left and their media wh0res would never tell the truth when a lie suits their agenda.

While I'm at it, the same applies to the "Good job, Brownie" LIE. That had NOTHING to do with Hurricane Katrina. It was said at a ceremony where the Governors of Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi were thanking FEMA for their help during the hurricane that occurred a month and a half BEFORE Katrina.

You see, that's another example of the dishonest garbage from the liberal media - the LIE OF OMISSION.

They never made mention of the fact that, when Katrina occurred, over the previous two months there had already been another hurricane and two very serious tropical storms that had laid waste to an area from Florida to Texas and as far north as Tennessee . By the time that Katrina rolled in, FEMA was already stretched paper thin dealing with widespread devastation over EIGHT STATES.

foolishness: whoever put the banner up is irrelevant. While it is entirely appropriate for any president to speak to the troops as CIC--even flying out to a carrier, he would have been far better served to do so without the glaring publicity--something more easily done within the confines of the military. Flying him out to the carrier could have been done without the fanfare.

I agree with your points on Katrina.

Well the laugh in on Bin laden. President Obama did what he said he would do. And OBL is fish food. Biden would have stepped right in if needed. One thing that OBL and his kind don't understand about the USA is that despite a few A whole like the ones in here now. As a whole we stand together when attacked. The way President Obama has been picking his top operatives off one by one with Hell fire missiles, and the Seal teams, well it just don't pay to play for that team anymore.

Anyone who would even consider it good for the U.S. for a President to be killed is way beyond the fringe of free speech. All of you need to be investigated and sent to a country that supports your views. You know, like Iran.

Moderate. Is your version of turning things around, steeling everything the middle class has worked for all there lives for. And giving it to the rich. Because that is what the Rep's do. Romney did that at Bain Capital. They bough company's that were healthy and Gutted them. Ran them into the ground then left to die. All the while getting rich from it. That is what happened to Eastern Air lines in the 7o's. That is not what is good for this country. Never has been.

Don't kid yourself. Joe Biden is that rarity: a VP who really could step in and become an effective President in the event of an assassination. That is a sad reflection on our traditional rationale for selecting a running mate: to balance a ticket for regional or ideological reasons, for example, or to appeal to minorities. Just consider this: had the last two presidential elections turned out differently, we would have had John Edwards and Sarah Palin as Vice Presidents, only a heartbeat away from the Oval Office. No matter what side of the political fence you're on, that has to scare you!

Roberts your the moron in the room. You know dam well this all happened under Bush Cheney. They drove the buss off the cliff. It took from 2000-2008 to put us in this mess. If we would of had someone in congress that put the country above there party we would have been much better off now. All this saying Obama has raised the debt in 3 years. It was 2 wars that the Rep's started that raised the debt. These wars were never funded. Remember Cheney said the wars would be paid for with Iraq'a oil.....Anyone else remember that one. So now like everything the Rep's did and who gets handed the bill. The tax payers and who made huger profits, yes big busines.

And another lying, left-wing, d-bag chimes in.

SUPERGERBIL(?), Palin NEVER SAID the phrase that you attribute to to her. That was spewed by that slimey skank on Saturday Night Live.

What Palin REALLY said was that you can see Russia from some places in Alaska, which is TRUE.

But, as usual, the Left will NEVER tell the truth when a LIE suits their agenda.

I don't think the SEIU or UAW are trying prevent citizens from voting and I don't think it was the SEIU or the UAW who booed a real American serving his country in uniform in Iraq because he is gay. Now, show us ONE incidence in which any violence has been conducted BY Tea Party before, during, or after a rally. Show us ONE incidence where Tea Party members have destroyed Public and Private Property before , during or after a rally. UNLIKE the groups that you support, namely the UAW and SEIU. Take a look at the Tea Party... Made up of your Parents, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles.....Most of whom make up the Greatest Generation, a generation of BUILDERS, unlike the DESTROYERS of the Socialist Left. Such as the Occupiers of Wall Street, Bill Ayers, and even Obama during his work with Acorn as a "community organizer". That is the "short list" of what your side represents.

All anyone has to do is look that the difference in opinion is that Repub's want to pay for it from the Obama health care slush fund and Dem's want to raise your taxes to pay for it. Its just more political BS and nobody wants to be honest about the issue.

Take a look at what is happening in state legislatures that want to impose extra conditions on women's health clinics not applicable to other practices, that want to impose excessive, unnecessary and intrusive "testing" and that want to deny funding to only certain health providers, all around the issue of abortion and all to restrict a woman's access to a legal medical procedure and affordable birth control. Yes there is a difference of opinion. These legislatures are driven by a religious ideology that treats women as lesser beings who need to have the state dictate what they can and can not do - usually anathema to conservatives, but not when it comes to women.

This is off topic however. My point is that making a joke about anyone assasinating any President is not funny.
