Chechen Islamist rebel leader Doku Umarov, seen in a screengrab taken from a video on Islamist website kavkazcenter.com, is suspected by Russia's security services of being behind a plot to attack the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Russia's secret service claimed Thursday to have foiled plans to stage a terrorist attack in the Black Sea resort of Sochi during the 2014 Winter Games, according to reports.

Russia's National Anti-Terrorist Committee said Thursday that Russia's secret service, the FSB, had discovered caches of ammunition with portable surface-to-air missiles, grenade launchers, flame throwers as well as grenades, rifles and explosives, The Associated Press reported.

The ammunition was found in Georgia's breakaway republic of Abkhazia, a region that has strong links with Russia.

The FSB said it suspected the attacks were being masterminded by Doku Umarov, a Chechen rebel leader.

The AFP news agency said three militants were arrested during the operation.

"Russia's FSB could establish that militants were planning to move these weapons to Sochi during 2012-2014 to use for terror acts during planning and hosting the Olympic Games," the committee's statement said, as quoted by Russian news agencies and reported by AFP.

"Doku Umarov -- while maintaining close contacts with the Georgian special services -- coordinated all activities to organize the delivery of materials to carry out the acts of terror," the committee added.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Mother Russia is itching for a fight. She's twitchy, nervous, and becoming more and more agitated. Her new leader, or well, old leader become new, has begun calling her the 'fatherland.' Mother Russia of the fatherland, that should make every human being on earth nervous. Last week the Russians threatened to preemtively attack US military installations in Poland. This week they've got a great big terrorist arms bust. Stand bye hommies, things seem to be getting spirited back in the USSR.

Dustin-2155694 just BS. By the way, for them is Motherland, it has always been, they have died in the millions to defend it, don't mess with them.

I know to Russians it is the Motherland. That is why it is so disturbing that Vladamir Putin is now addressing Russia as the 'Fatherland' I know they sacrificed tens of millions of lives to defeat the 'fatherland' of Nazi Germany. That the leader of Russia is now addressing Russia as the 'Fatherland' is definately BS. That the Russians have threatened to attack Europe is definately BS. I don't want to mess with the Russians, but I damn sure don't want the Russians messing with me. When they threaten all out thermo nuclear war, that messes with me, and yes, it is BS.

Our Russian Allies of yester-year celebrated the defeat of Germany on the 9th of May 2012. It was 67 years ago when they took Berlin. However, they actually became our enemy at Yelta when the cut up of Europe was aligned and approved by the US & the UK leaders. The US President & CIC was dying of cancer at the time and just wanted to get the troops home, as his final act and epitaph of ender of wars. The next CIC did the same and started the cold war. The UK PM or WC was trying the bayton switch but could never continue without the financial support of the US whom they paid off as late as 2007 for the war debt encoured, including the supply of Russia to maintain an Eastern Front against Germany.

That world war started with the German invasion of Poland and ended with Poland being sacrificed and allowed to be occupied in order to end it, even on Emperor Stalin's terms.

Therefore, the arms race began and the Russian Phobia Started ; fortunately those weapons have never been used, but the arms industry is still prolific in the US & NATO and lets add China just for good measure.

Russia got an ass kicking in Afganistan the same way we did in Vietnam. Then we had a go at Afganistan after a couple of warm up bouts in Iraq. That's why we are in debt to the tune of Gazillions$!!!!!!

In saying, never trust Russia the big bad enemy are we not being a little more than doing the whole post WW2 thing again?

Foiled plots of terror are a good thing, no matter where that happens.

There is no USSR it is Russia and the CIS. The states that make up the CIS are as afraid of Russia as you apparently are.

Communication is the key to preventing any war and if not maybe they should start it in a space station?

Oh! Or are we only Allies when we are out of this world?

Russia should continue to be embraced as we have done above the earth, in order to maintain the peace on the Earth.

You may find that the enemy is closer to home or indeed the friend of that other Presdent CIC, RN you know, the one we bounced for corrupution and abuse of power!

Let China sleep for when she awakes she will rule the world.

Energy and Food are the key to power and that is why China is buying up the world, including in the US but most particularly in Africa. China also has the means to defeat us all including Russia by either, weapons, manpower or wealth. its time to stick together and get back to being allies.

          Just a thought!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Peace!

The VE (Victory in Europe)for France/GB/US was on May 8th- Yankees fought-there were pictures in Life that VE happened. What happened in US? No mention whatsoever- there are still GI's alive to ackowledge and salute- but not in today's US. I'd like to know- why? To read the Soshi Winter Olympics 2014 terror attack thwarting by FSB/ Abkhaz security services- the Russian line in http://en.rian.ru/russia/20120510/173366147.html -some chest-thumbing but basically what happened. The unvarnished reports in hyle.fi/dn.se/delfi.ee not in English.

Stalin was a brutal, and paranoid, dictator/sociopath. You need only look at the photo of him with FDR and Churchill to know why Russia invented us as the enemy and why they still rule the country like KGB.

We nearly gave Stalin a heart attack when we used the nuclear bombs on Japan. He saw it, and had every right to, as a show of US military power. That's one of the main reasons we used the atomic bombs in the first place; to show the USSR that we were the new superpower, and in Stalin's opinion, a new threat. I'm not defending the guy; he was a psychopathic killer, yet the US isn't perfect at all. Also, Putin, go kill yourself. You are a disgrace to the millions of people that died trying to defend the motherland.

Seems our perceived enemy's have terrorist issues as well. Perhaps we all should terrorize the terrorists.

russia is dictatorship and we cant be allies with russia when she threatens premative attack on united states base in poland. Yes china is a problem but they and russia are friends and there is weapon that can be used against china if anything fails. We sell food to china and china can not feed billion or two of it citizens without outside world and as years go by china will use military power to invade any nation if things get despate but food is only weapon we have against them but we need strong leadership not appeasement. We can never be friends with russia as long putin and united russia party is around

what fears me the most is that within few decades china consumes way more resources in small frame of time immagine 30 years frome now she will be using more oil than whole wrong and usa and she fight for it. immagine 2 cars per chinese times billion that will be so much pollution and resources needed that china is already staging the ground to own it all and leave rest of us starving for it, so many presidents in past was wrong to bring china into WTO and nixon was wrong to go to china and any other president who made deals with china was just plain stupid. Biggest mistake will cost us our freedom

Good deal Russia, i grew up to see the end of the cold war, and the fall of the Berlin wall i don't perceive the Russians as our enemies they are a proud and strong people who in the end do the right thing most of the time, the Russian people have had to bear a heavy load for decades, a little time and respect isn't to much to give, when gauged against other country's the Russian,s have but one face and you usually know were they stand.

I invest a great deal of time in the Russian Federation and the CIS. Good people and wonderful land. The 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi is a big deal for Russians. They will have invested about $20 Billions on it. The Rebels will do anything possible to disrupt the event.
