Move over, Al Roker! Prince Charles becomes TV weatherman

Britain's Prince Charles takes a royal run at being a TV weatherman, delivering a surprise forecast of rain to BBC Scotland viewers.

Updated at 1:03 p.m. ET: LONDON -- Prince Charles, the heir to Britain's throne, made a surprise appearance as a television weatherman Thursday.

He gave viewers of BBC Scotland the news that it would be "cold, wet and windy" across most of the country.

The prince -- who is Queen Elizabeth's first-born son -- was on a visit marking 60 years of BBC Scotland Television.

Robin McCallum, a weather presenter for ITV London, told NBC News that the prince looked "very relaxed."

A local British weatherman from ITV London critiques Prince Charles' technique as a meteorologist. Take a look at what Robin McCallum of ITV London thinks of his "rival."

"He's doing a very good job of explaining the weather," McCallum added. "He's very easy on-screen."

However, McCallum said Charles wasn't quite perfect -- describing him as "a little bit trigger happy."

"I have to point out a slight criticism -- he's pressed his plunger -- which is the thing that scrolls from one graphic to the next -- and we should really still have been on the graphic at the end of the weather report. Other than that, it's an immaculate job."

I'm way too Yankee and way too sensible to believe that the royals are anything special. They are just people. Tourists attractions who are perhaps an inspiration for weak minded individuals. Similar to the Pope, but the Pope had to earn his way to the position.

They are merely characters, like Mickey at Disneyland. If they like them fine, but why do we really give a ...

With the age expectancy in that family, he might as well get a real job. ;)

HRH Prince Charles is Class - with a Capital C - personified. I've always thought that I'd like to meet him, though I've no idea what we might talk about, but just, perhaps, to shake his hand and tell him "Well Done".

I'll second that. He seems to have relaxed a lot since his second marriage.

How can you say he has class when he cheated on his first wife with the woman who is now his second wife. He treated Diana like crap, not at all the way a class person would treat their spouse. He is stiff, dull, and boring as well as an adulterer. You and I apparently have very different definitions of what constitutes having class.

So you believe he learned nothing from the experience? A reminder Diana was carrying on her own affairs. The two were simply not meant for each other. We Yanks don't understand the concept of monarchy. thankfully.

Prince Charles: "Down in Glasgow, we have a line that is bent into two directions. And up more in Stirling, we seem to have a circle thingy with a hook underneath it...that must be good for fishing or something. Hmmm... Now, where do I live on this gosh darn thing??..."

The Scots love the fact that their weather will keep them from being overrun and turning into the fast lane rat race that we see here in the USA. They also have this little old drink called scotch that makes their weather much more bearable.

It is hard for the rest of us to undersand but The Royal Family serves a very important purpose in Britain. My Aunt used to live there and when the Queen appeared on television, everything stopped out of respect.

      I kinda liked it.

Blah......I'm glad we dumped that system. I mean really, why did someone WAY BACK IN HISTORY say, "Sure, you rule the nation and then your first child, and then their first child, and then their first child, and their first child, f-o-r-e-v-e-r." That's just crazy. I know they don't 'rule' like they used to - but then the argument is, "Why are we paying millions of dollars a year for this family to live like this?" Don't they put their pants on one leg at a time like the rest of us." Glad I live on this side of the pond.

If you go to BBC.com you will quickly learn that there are a whole lot of British subjects who want to do away with the privileged class known as "royals". Supporting the lavish, royal lifestyle does make sense to many given the state of the economy in England.

Too bad that they don't, as the British monarch provides a massive amount of lands to the common people and they get a really small amount of money compare to the total amount the UK makes. I think that's a fair trade compare to giving almost a half a million a year to a person as our president for four years and still makes a lot of money after that.

Charles does a lot of good in the world, with his support of organic and sustainable farming (his own farms are demonstration projects), support of architecture and history, his cultural and architectural preservation efforts, support of traditional crafts. He knows the future of his country is in selling culture, history, arts and crafts to visitors, and the future of the planet lies in sustainable, organic agriculture. He puts his money where his mouth is, and will be remembered as an important figure who did a lot for the UK as P of W. Lot to like about him.

He is a human being and he has his faults. He has not been perfect, especially in his personal life, where he has made some glaring public mistakes, but considering he has never needed to do ANYTHING, he deserves credit for all the good things he has done and continues to do.

The Royal family of Britain will last a very long time because they, (Her Majesty the Queen) are the face of Britain, the facade if you will. Over the decades Her Majesty has shown the real virtues of the British people and although she neglected to prepare Prince Charles, she has definitively been personalyl involved in preparing Prince William since he was a child.

I do believe for the sake of the Royal family and Britain's image, Prince Charles will step aside on his own and let Prince William succeed Her Majesty.

I must add, we in the Commonwealth and in the USA have a lot to be grateful to in adapting and living under the guidance of the rich and advanced British culture. Have a read of the violent history and continued disarray of other prominent cultures.

                        God Bless the Queen.
