After all, the Hippocratic Oath says in part: "I will give no deadly medicine to anyone if asked, nor suggest any such counsel; and in like manner I will not give to a woman a pessary to produce abortion." With much talk of personal rights and freedoms, it seems that 'where there's a will, there's a way' applies and cutting back, almost to nill, the travel to and from areas known to hold, allow passage of and be friendly towards terroristic packs is about the only real form of protection. And no, it's not perfect and some will say that's not what America is about, that it cuts off relations in many ways, etc., etc. . And, we've had problems with our own home grown terrorists.

But, if this is where we're at or heading towards, if some are this hell bent on getting to us, then there's really no way to remove all threats but stymying travel to some areas, back and/or forth, is all I can really think of; however, only viable if others follow suit such as our allies and then it can become a seperatist world, us and them, which may be o.k. with some and not others.

In the end, I don't believe that 'experts' know of the right combination of answers as any will take time and $$ to implement, much less those of us opining here. I do just think that if any interactions with some areas are all but snuffed until they either get their collective poop together and handle those that are terrorists in their areas or allow them to flourish to the point of where we can take out said area something more will get done than trying to stop every single way an attack can be carried out here or in the air. Extra x-rays? Are you nuts? We already hear medical reports that what we're getting may be too much, and that there should be radiation count records for each patient. But sure, let's give every frequent flier flier that's just trying to keep his job a significantly increased cancer risk.

It is unbelievable the extremes these fanatics will go to. It seems like there is very little we can do to detect these types of devices. The only possibility would seem to be to find out what they are using as a trigger for these bombs. The article mentions them being detonated by an injection, so we need to find out what the compound is that is injected. It seems like our best bet is to find and eliminate these doctors as soon as possible.

Profiling would not do much to stop these types of bombs unless we find out what the detonating compound is and look for that. After all, we are not going to start forcing people to have x-rays taken at security check points. I doubt that something that intrusive would fly with the courts, particularly since the radiation from x-rays is far more than what the current scanners use and can not be called harmless so many people would object to the exposure. I also doubt they would start installing x-ray machines at every airport security check point and keep radiologists on standby.

You can't use any sort of imaging system that uses ionizing radiation like X-rays. You may only fly once or twice a year, but many people fly 100 plus flights a week It wouldn't be medically safe to expose anyone to that much radiation.

When I read this article I could only sit and shake my head. It sounded exactly like some propaganda sheet from Nazi Germany or North Korea. I mean really.

People have bandied about the notion of implanted bombs for years and years. I think the first time I ever came across the idea was back in the 70's. While I am sure there could be someone out there who will try to perfect this approach to killing innocent people, it has so far been discredited over and over again. This exact same scenario, except for the "boobs" part was trotted out only a few years ago, (maybe even less), by the government.

What I think is really funny is that in all of these so called plots, especially the current ones, the government keeps telling us about "non metallic" devices and detonation; making it seem really new and scientific and therefore even more scary. I am guessing that they don't think any of us are smart enough to know that pacemakers or similar devices are not only metallic but electrical in nature. If someone wanted to detonate a "body bomb" wouldn't it be really easy just to implant the detonator with the explosives?

Ah, but that would make an entire group of people with health problems immediately suspect wouldn't it? And Americans might not like being suspected terrorists because they have heart problems. It is all getting to be a little too ridiculous.
