Report: Syria rebels get better weapons as US quietly boosts support

Fadi Zaidan / AP

In this Monday, May 14, photo, a girl walks past Syrian rebels at Khaldiyeh neighborhood in Homs province, central Syria.

Updated at 1 p.m. ET: Syrian rebels battling President Bashar al-Assad's government are getting more and better weapons in an effort paid for by Persian Gulf nations and coordinated partly by the United States, the Washington Post reported late on Tuesday.

The report cited opposition activists and U.S. and foreign officials.

Obama administration officials emphasized the United States is not supplying or funding the lethal material, which includes anti-tank weapons, the report said.

Instead, they said, the administration has expanded contacts with opposition military forces to provide the Gulf nations with assessments of rebel credibility and command-and-control infrastructure, the Post said.

Opposition activists said the Syrian security forces have even opened fire on a funeral procession, killing at least 21 people. NBC's Ayman Mohyeldin reports.

Syria violence spills into streets of Lebanon's Tripoli

"We are increasing our non-lethal assistance to the Syrian opposition, and we continue to coordinate our efforts with friends and allies in the region and beyond in order to have the biggest impact on what we are collectively doing," said a senior State Department official, one of several U.S. and foreign government officials who discussed the evolving effort on condition of anonymity, the Post reported.

Syria says dozens dead in twin Damascus blasts

U.S. contacts with the rebels and the information-sharing with Gulf nations mark a shift in Obama administration policy as hopes dim for a political solution to the Syrian crisis, the Post said.

Opposition activists speaking to the newspaper said that the flow of weapons increased significantly after Saudi Arabia, Qatar and others boosted the amount of money they would spend on the rebels.

The killing has not stopped, leaving many to wonder if the peace plan has failed. NBC's Ayman Mohyeldin reports.

Weapons and other material was being stockpiled in Damascus, near the Turkish border in Idlib and Zabadani near Lebanon, according to the Post.

The Muslim Brotherhood in Syria claimed to have opened its own supply channel, Mulham al-Drobi, a member of the Brotherhood’s executive committee, told the newspaper.

U.K.-based Syrian opposition activist Abdul Wahab Omar said he would welcome increased supplies to the rebels' Free Syrian Army, but said he had not heard this was happening.

“The (Free Syria Army) remains in my eyes as powerful, no more no less, as it was two months ago,” he told msnbc.com. “I haven’t seen any reports of new kinds of equipment on the ground.  I have heard what I’m used to hearing so far – the rebels continue to be in the position where they cannot yet pose a significant threat to the Assad regime.”

Any indications that there were more weapons were likely due to the relative lull in activity, which meant that stockpiles weren’t being depleted as quickly, he added.

 Reuters contributed to this report.

Obama using U.S. resources to arm the Muslim Brotherhood... you can't even make this stuff up.

We should keep our noses out of Syria period. While the existing government certainly leaves much to be desired, the alternative could be much worse. Syria 2012 has Iran 1976 writtenall over it. Furthermore if/once the rebellion starts here in the US, our government, yes our government will be doing exactly the same things the current Syrian government is doing to tamp it down. Don't believe me, does Kent State or more recently Waco ring a bell?

The current leader is hostile to the US and is slaughtering citizens in the tens of thousands. So it doesnt really matter who becomes the next leader. Im just shocked Obama decided to take a break causing harm to US Allies (Egypt, Honduras) and go after the real war criminals for once..

Do you even read what you write?

"The Muslim Brotherhood in Syria claimed to have opened its own supply channel"

How do you change that into we are arming the muslim brotherhood? Could you please show me where it says that we (the US) gave anything to anyone?

Freedom fighters today, anti-American Muslim terrorists tomorrow!

Is this what Odumbo calls sound foreign policy? He doesn't even know who it is we're helping to arm. We can see how well leading from behind has done us as the Middle East descends into complete anarchy to become a breeding ground for terrorists.

    It is worse.

For Sunni al-Qaida, the US and West are No. 1 enemy.

US is indirectly arming al-Qaida, who is supporting actively Syrian rebels.

The US is dancing as Saudis want them to dance like during Iraqi wars and now in Iran and Syria.

Jonathan-1982062 - It is worse. For Sunni al-Qaida

What the F**K are you talking about. When Osama Bin Laden was living with his Rich Relatives at Saudi Arabia during the USSR 40th Army Occupation of Afghanistan he was Forming his Anti US, Anti US Ally, Anti US Ally Saudi Arabian Government (Sunni) Fundamentalist Islamic (Shia, Shiites) Jihadist Organization Al Quada.

Shia = Fundamentalist Islam as Shia Laws aka Sharia Laws (Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Interpretation of Holy Koran (Quran) as Law) and Hadith Laws (Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Customs).

Sunnis = Rule of Modern Law aka Fiqh Laws (Reason, Logic).

Jonathan-1982062 - US is indirectly arming al-Qaida, who is supporting actively Syrian rebels.

That part is True. Ever since President Obama's March 2009 Policy that Resulted the Overthrows of US Allies throughout the World: 1. Fundamentalist Islamic Muslim Brotherhood Overthrow of US Ally President of Egypt, loss of the Strategic Suez Canal, access gained by the Fundamentalist islamic Republic of Iran., 2. Overthrow of US Ally President of Yemen., 3. Pressure by Fundamentalist Islamic (Shia) Republic of Iran for the Fundamentalist Islamic (Shia) Government of Iraq to no longer negotiate withe the US, and get out of Iraq, US and US Allies loss of Iraqis Oil., 4. Pressure by Fundamentalist Islamic (Shia) Republic of Iran for the US Ally Government of Pakistan for the removal of All US and US Ally Military Bases at Pakistan., 5. Pressure by Fundamentalist Islamic (Shia) Republic of Iran for the US Ally Government of Afghanistan for the High Tech Mineral Rights of Afghanistan to go to the Ally of the Fundamentalist Islamic (Shia) Republic of Iran, the Chinese., 6. Fundamentalist Islamic (Shia) Republic of Iran direct support of Fundamentalist Islamic (Shia) JihadistsWorldwide including withTraining by their Iranian Special Forces Quds (Asymmetric Warfare, Insurgency), weapons and ammunition supplied by the Russian Federation and Chinese, Trillions USDs per year Funding from the Mandatory Islamic Tithes of 1.5 Billion Islamic Believers., 7. Fundamentalist Islamic (Shia) Jihadists as 80% of the Libyan Rebels Overthrow Former US Ally President Gaddaffi of Libya, US European Allies loss of Strategic Libyan Oil tothe Ally of the Fundamentalist Islamic (Shia) Republic of Iran, the Chinese., 8. Fundamentalist Islamic (Shia) Republic of Iran increases "Strategic Sphere of Influence" Worldwide, Middle East, Africa, Asia, South and Central Americas; cooperation with North Korea, North Korea gives Fundamentalist Islamic (Shia) Republic of Iran North Korean Nuclear Weapons information Fundamentalist Islamic (Shia) Republic of Iran gives North Korea Fundamentalist Islamic (Shia) Republic of Iranian Missile Technology (from 21st Century Russian Federation and Chinese Technology); President Obama backpeddles on his Anti President Bush Deployment of US Military ABMs to Europe, with the Deployment of US Military ABMs to Romania December 2011.

Democratic National Committee erases (lined thru as adverse publicity defeating President Obama's Popularity) from President Obama's List of Achievements after all the Adverse Results become known:

President Obama's January 21, 2009 Patriot Acts. RESULT: US Citizens Loss of US Constitutional Rights. Restrictions on Internet and Monitoring and Censorship of All US Communications. Preemptive Detentions of US Citizens. "Expanded Presidential Powers" without consent of US Congress.

President Obama's March 2009 Policy. RESULT: Fundamentalist Islamic (Shia) Republic of Iran Increases Activities Worldwide withNO US Interventions. Letter of Reprimand for General McChrystal for making Statements against President Obama's March 2009 Policy based on PhysicalEvidence shown to General McChrystal.

No President Bush Deployments of US Military ABMs to Europe

President Obama no more Discretionary Spending (President Obama used Discretionary Spending used for War at Libya including money for US Military Bombs (expensive US Military "Smart Bombs") used by US Allies after they ran out).

"Arab Spring". RESULTS: Loss of US Allies after Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists Overthrow US Allies Established Governments using Asymmetric Warfare.

Iraq as a US Ally, Iraqis Oil to pay for US Military Liberation of Iraq in accordance with US Laws: H.R. 4655 "Iraqis Liberation Act of 1998" aka US Military Operation Iraqis Freedom 1998 to 2011, and US Law 2002 Iraqi War Resolution. RESULT: US and US Allies lost Iraqis Oil to Allies of the Fundamentalist Islamic (Shia) Republic of Iran, the Chinese and Russian Federation. 16,000 minus 1,500 US Embassy personnel required to secure the 104 Acre $1 Billion US Embassy at Iraq ($1 Billion each year needed to operate, just like the other $1 Billion US Embassy at Pakistan) by conducting Combat Patrols "outside the wire" to keep snipers, mortars, rockets out of range. "All US Military Combatants Withdrawn from Iraq" - President Obama.

President Obama's signing the NDAA December 2011. RESULT: US Citizens Indefinite Detentions. US Military Use of Deadly Force Against Armed and Unarmed US Citizens.

Increased Relations with US Ally Pakistan.

Increased Relations with US Ally Afghanistan.

US Military Withdrawal from Afghanistan. Candidate Obama's, "as soon as I become President". Changed to President Obama's "Afghanistan the Right War, Iraq the Wrong War". RESULT: Once again US Abandons US Ally to be massacred by Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban and many Fundamentalist Islamic Foreign Fighters from other Fundamentalist Islamic Nations, just like after Senator Charles Wilson's War (Operation Cyclone). President Obama'sTreaty signed with President Karzai, May 2012, US Military Asymmetric Warfare Forces to be at Afghanistan Indefinitely for Decades after 2014, without the Required support of the US Military (and NATO) Conventional Warfare Forces for sustained longterm US Military Asymmetric Warfare Operations.

US Economy. RESULT: President Obama has done nothing to end the Causes of the current $60 Trillion to $100 Trillion "Global Economic Crisis" consisting of the "Mortgage Crisis", "Wall Street Crisis", "Financial Crisis", "Banking Crisis", "Credit Crisis", etc..

Candidate Obama's promise to close Guantanamo. RESULT: Increased size, more facilities, more prisoners. Less accountability by increasing use of US Civilian Contractors (zero accountability) and decreasing US Military (some accountability under Four Legal Authorities Over US Military including International Laws of 1907 Hague Convention and 1949 Geneva Convention).

President Obama's Policy, April 2009 "US Military will not be used to secure US Borders".

Libya. RESULT: Overthrow of Former US Ally President Gaddaffi of Libya by Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists. Libya becomes a Fundamentalist Islamic Republic. US European Allies lose Strategic Libyan Oil after loss of Strategic Iraqis Oil. US Ally Saudi Arabia attempts to make up for the US and US Allies losses of Iraqis and Libyan Oil. Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists release many of President Obama's Islamic Jihadist Prisoners transfered from Guantanamo to President Gaddaffi's Prisons.

President Obama's April 2009 US Military Defense Budget Cuts of USAF and USN (one USN Aircraft Carrier Strike Group, 11-1=10). Results: 95,000 US Civilians Laid Off that manufacturer F-22. Hundreds of thousands of US Labor Union Civilians that work on the USN Aircraft Carrier Strike Group threaten to drive down from Virginia to strike on steps of Whitehouse, 2012 President Obama changes his mind in his 2012 State of the Union Address (but does not tell the whole truth, as still CVN-65 will be scraped after last mission 2012, so still 11-1=10 USN Aircraft Carrier Strike Groups, wait till the US Labor Unions find out when they are laid off.).

Many others like the current Reduction In Forces (RIF) of the US Military to be thrown on US Unemployment. Budget cuts to the Veterans Affairs. Cuts to US Military Benefits (what few are left without payroll deductions, loss of incentives to volunteer). US Army Corps of Engineer Budget Cuts for Infrastructure Projects/Programs within the US. March 2012, according to President Obama and Secretary of Defense Leon Penetta a 10% US Military Defense Budget Cut will result in a Million US Civilians becoming Unemployed (so they know the results of what they are currently doing May 2012).

THOSE ARE FACTS (Who, What, Where, Why, When, How, How Many, etc.) and RESULTS. NOT Non Factual, Uneducated, Uninformed, emotive popular opinions that belong on your own personal blogs, and NOT on Newsvine Forums "Get Smarter Here" for Adults to discuss FACTS.

I'm sure the White House asked the Washington Post to put this article out after the bad press the White House has been receiving from CNN for the past few days in regard to Syria. Where I might add they have been complaining about not receiving the weapons that were supposedly coming. One more article from the WP on behalf of the President and Obama 2012.

The CNN reporting on Syria was decent, but I certainly wouldn't call it bad press for the WH. The American people do not want to be involved. The American people also constitutes the Republican party. As of today's date, the official GOP response (other than McCain) has been mum. This is because the vast majority of the republican voters in the US do not want direct US involvement in Syria. If the Obama administration put before congress a proposal for more involvement either unilaterally or via the UN, then the republican party in both chambers plus candidate Romney would vehemently oppose such actions simply because the president would support it (in this hypothetical scenario). There are no political gains for the Obama administration to support greater action in Syria and there would be immense political gains for the GOP to oppose such actions in this election year. That is just the way it is. You already know this.

This type of low level assistance by the US does come with risks, but as long as there is no direct flow of weapons from US sources, then the risks (both politically and militarily) are low.

'Bad Press' is certainly in the eye of the beholder. The CNN reporting was just decent journalism in my opinion. I don't care for Faoud Ajami's opinion since he seems to be lacking the real insight, though he is indigenous to the region. I certainly did not take away the reporting as negative to the WH. It could only be negative if the American people were clamoring to spend billions of dollars of tax money on the intervention and possible losses of many lives of US military personnel for unknown and unquantifiable gains. At this time, the American people are not advocating action in Syria. Therefore, the repporting by CNN was not negative to the WH.

Iraqi wars were not our business nor the current Syria and Iran.

Repetition of Iraqi war dramas in Iran and Syria to increase oil prices by Saudis, oil companies and their lobbyists and their puppet politicians.

Slowly oil supplies from Iran are being choked. Now it is free for all and at the mercy of Saudi & co.

Wait for the oil prices to shoot up to $200 a barrel this time.

Talk about ungrateful people and backstabbers: you have the Sunni Saudi beastly rulers and co!

Just as in Iraq, oil rich Sunni seventh century bigoted Saudi barbaric and beastly rulers and their Sunni pals (Kuwait, UAE and others), oil companies, lobbyists and Jewish mad people (Netanyahos and co) are repeating their seventh century desert dances through their cheap US puppets on Iran and Syria.

Jonathan-1982062 - Iraqi wars were not our business

REALLY: a. US Military Training Teams to US Ally Iraq during the Iran Iraq Wars. That is what Allies do, support each other.

        b. After we chased Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Al Quada, Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Taliban, and Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Jihadists from Afghanistan weeks after the 9/11 2001 Attacks, to the Northeastern part of Iraq thru the Old Silk Road, after US Congress Declared War with Iraq with US Law 2002 Iraqi War Resolution, we went into Iraq 2002 Operation Hotel California and fought against the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Al Quada, Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Taliban, and Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Jihadists from Afghanistan and many other Nations that became Ansar Al Islam.

        c. Yes, President Clinton was an id!ot with his 1998 State of the Union Address, Iraq Weapons of Mass Destruction. Especially, since the US Ally Iraqis (Sunnis) use of Chemical Weapons during the Iran Iraq Wars stopped millions from dying on both sides during the years long Iran Iraq Wars. Yes, the US People as Represented by US Congress that they hired (elected), and US Congress passing into US Law, H.R.4655 "Iraqis Liberation Act of 1998" section 2 "Findings" justification President Clinton's Weapons of Mass Destruction. Id!ot President Clinton listening to the Fundamentalist Islamic Arab League of Nations Lobbyists to Overthrow the Established US Ally Sunnis Government of Iraq to stop President Hussein's "Modernization of the Arab World" including Women's Rights (against Fundmentalist Islamic (Shia) Laws), just like President Obama listening to the Fundamentalist Islamic Arab League of Nations Lobbyists to Overthrow Former US Ally President Gaddaffi of Libya.

STOP TRYING TO CONFUSE PEOPLE AND UNDERMINE US ALLY GOVERNMENT OF SAUDI ARABIA (Sunnis).

Shia (Shiites) = Fundamentalist Islam as Shia Laws aka Sharia Laws (Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Interpretation of Holy Koran (Quran) as Law) and Hadith Laws (Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Customs). The Primary example of Shia if the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran.

Sunnis = Rule of Modern Law aka Fiqh Laws (Reason, Logic).

          You are right.

The US and allies could not handle Iraq and had to flee with huge forces even while withdrawing.

In Afghanistan, after 11 years of great planning, precision drone attacks, military actions including surges, NATO forces are searching for excuses how to run!

With Syria and Iran, close to Russia, Russia is certainly going to play its part.

We better keep away from the mad Sunni and Shiites battles.

You better start looking at Credible Verifiable sources of information instead of "popular" emotive no substance opinions and or wikipedia (wikipedia disclaimer of validity of articles).

As currently the Russian Federation and Chinese are increasing their Militarises to protect their gains from US and US Allies Losses.

maciej - Once West decides to really help the rebels, he will not be able to do anything, just mouth a lot. And he knows it...

Sure that is why the Russian Federation Admiral Kuznetsov Aircraft Carrier Battle Group (many Ships and Submarines, bigger than a USN Aircraft Carrier Strike Group) just happens to be at one of the few Russian Federation Mediterranean Ports, Tartus at Syria.

One of the things known pertaining to Foreign Military Sales. Usually, buyers require a Nation selling their Military equipment must have their Military Equipped with the same Military Equipment they are selling, so that the buyers do not get stuck with discontinued Military Equipment. It is also known that the Sales of Military Equipment (Billions to Trillions USDs) versus Civilian Consumerism (Hundreds of Millions USDs), Civilian Consumerism does not make a Nations Economy (and even causes/previously caused Economic Disasters for Nations). This is why the Chinese and Russian Federation have "Ramped Up" their Military Defense Budgets, the US and US Allies would have to spend many times more than the Chinese and Russian Federation since they get every Chinese Yuan or Russian Federation Rubles worth since they still take people out and execute them for Contract Defaults, Contract Delays, Contract Disputes; while the US must reward the US Civilian Contractors for Contract Defaults, Contract Delays, etc. to keep the Contracts being delayed in US Courts for Decades. That is why the US spends so much and gets nothing while the Chinese, Russian Federation, Funamentalist Islamic Republic of Iran, and many other Nations can spend so little compared to the US and still get many times (exponental numbers, 10x, 100x, 1000x, 10Kx, etc.) more for less money. So Chinese pay 1 Yuan (16 cents) for a Stainless Steel Bolt US pays $10.00 for the same bolt, the difference is also to pay for the "Fair and Living Wages" of US Civilians making that bolt (or relabelling the packages of Made in China bolts to Made In US), US Civilian Wholesaler, US Civilian Warehouse Costs, US Civilian Retailers, US Civilian Contractors. (US Military paid below minimum wages, charged for "benefits" with payroll deductions, so US Military as 1% of US Citizens do not get that money the US Civilians do.).

The Chinese PLAN just made Operational (After many Sea Trials, and extensive assistance from the Russian Federation installing 21st Century Technology) the upgraded to 21st Century Technology "sister ship" to the Russian Federation Aircraft Carrier Admiral Kuznetsov, as the former Varyag, now known as the Chinese PLAN Shi Lang. Currently, using the Techniques of US Fully Computerized Automation (not allowed in the US by US Labor Unions) the Chinese are manufacturing a 21st Century Deep Water (Blue Water) Navy, just as fast as they are manufacturing products for Walmart. By doing this they are also capable of Selling these thru their Foreign Military Sales to other Nations, like 21st Century Stealth Submarine Technology, Supersonic and Hypersonic Anti USN Aircraft Carrier Missiles, Supercavitating (Underwater Missile) Torpedoes, etc. to the Fundamentalist Islamic Republic of Iran as well as the Chinese Military Technical Support and Chinese Military Maintenance Personnel.

Whooppee, not only does the US finance terrorism in that 1/2 acre of Zionist hell the Zionists cut-throats call Eretz Ysriol, but also in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE, Qatar, Lebanon and Kuwait, (but now it has added to it's ever growing list of despotic thugs and murderers), this time its added Syria to the ever growing list. Who cares and understands al-Qaida, Muslim brotherhood and so on.

Saudis, oil companies, US extemist Jews and their lobbyists screamed: Saddam is bad; Saddam has WMDs; Saddam is killing children and women; and so on.

Bush, Sr, Bush Jr, John McCains, Liebermanns, Netanyahos jumped on Iraq in 1991 and 2003 with: bomb, boom, boom and "Mission accomplished"

Oil prices shot up from $30 to $145

Now the same Saudi gangs are back in business and screaming same tunes.

Back to sanctions on Iran oil as they are about to get WMDs (don't worry if Pakis sell nukes) and Syria for killing children and women.

By the by, what are knew names: Muslim Brotherhood, al-Qaida?

Already the known responses as typified by the statement 'Obama already arming AQ and Muslim Brotherhood' are predictable. These are the responses that will certainly populate this thread today.

To calm the waters a bit, let's hypotheticize on a McCain presidency at this time. We know (as evidenced by his actions and words in regards to Syria) that if he had won in 2008 then the US military would already be involved in this region offering training to Free Syrian Army defectors and all sorts of other assistance. Therefore, I can't help but to view all of the conservative opposition to such low-level support for the oppressed people of Syria as being faux-outrage. If McCain were president, all of the conservative opposition would be marching lock-step in support of the party line and accusing anyone opposing intervenion as unpatriotic. We've seen the movie before, so there is no need to give you guys the benefit of the doubt.

Conservatives/GOP party operatives are playing the Syrian thing very shrewdly and politically astute at the moment. The NRO online has already painted the opposition to Assad as being AQ affiliated, while Krauthammer and McCain are advocating a greater US response. The waters on the GOP side sure are muddy... by design. Whichever action the administration takes, there will be opposition from the rank-n-file republican voters. It is truly amazing to watch. Regardless of education level of conservative leaning people, from the college educated in the southern universities to the simple minded NASCAR folks, all of the GOP supporters graze in the same fields.

But you cannot make this stuff up: Hussein helping the Muslim Brotherhood establish a supply chain. Hussdein encouraging Al-Qaeda to be peace keeprs in Syria. It is as plain as the nose on your face.

Too funny Katlan - the entire scenrio that you are envisioning is made up. Just mental constructs that soely exist within the confines of your mind. There is no basis in reality to anything that you write.

You believe it because you want to believe it. You don't need proof. Regular GOP folks like you don't represent much of a threat. Your opinions are predictable and can easily be refuted with evidence and logic. There is a large pool of people like you and you can shout (or just bold the font) all you want. Though you believe it, there is no basis in reality that US actions to aide the opposition to Assad is a direct (or indirect) line of assisance to AQ. The Muslim Brotherhood is a separate matter these days. The organization is morphing into a credible political entity across the region. It is not an organization devoted to terror and the caliphate. We'll have to agree to disagree.

The American empire once again proves it is the most hypocritical regime by waging warsand invading other weak nations with the pretext of combating terrorism. Yet at the same time it supports covertly these organizations when it is convinient to its political and financial interests. It also supports oppressive regimes like Saudi Arabia and Qatar where it can get cheaper oil and sell them weapons. The situation in Syria is only the beginning to a wider confrontation with Iran and Russia, once again to benefit the weapon manufacturers. The USA is not for democracy or human rights of Syrians, Lybians or anybody else, even in its own territory with such measures like the Patriot Act. The American regime is only desperate to continue its hegemony. To think otherwise is too naive and stupidly brainwashed with lies from the corrupted mainstream media.

Wes - Why do you need to given anything (in this case free armaments) from the government? Save your paycheck and go purchase a weapon a the local gun shop, from a gun-n-knife show or just a friend or acquaintance that is looking to sell an old gun. A buddy of mine just bought a used pump 12 gauge for $150, a FAL for $550 and an AK for $500 a few weeks ago from one our friends that had to discard some iron to pay some monthly bills.

It's not so hard to get a weapon in the USA that you have to petition to mooch of the the government to feed your own personal collection.

Max James - Didn't we try this very same tactic in Libya? And just how well did that turn out?

Why do you think the US News Media is NOT reporting on current events at Libya.

Prior to the start of the Civil War at Libya:

President Gaddaffi a US Ally, standard of living for Libyan Citizens (NOT Foreigners and Illegal Aliens) better than US (Free College including MD, Post Graduate with Pay, Gasoline at .33 cents, new Vehicles at Cost, Free House for recently married, etc.). Human Rights for Libyan Citizens (NOT Foreigners and Illegal Aliens) as praised by US, UN, and UA (African Union). Orders Libyan Military to go after Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists especially the Fundamentalist Islamic Libyan Islamic Fighting Group that were killing US Military and US Allies at Iraq. Turns over Chemical Weapons to US, and stops all Libyan WMD programs. Libyan Oil supplied to US European Allies. Strategic Libyan Ports and Military Bases negotiated for US and US Allies (US AFRICOM and NATO).

Fundamentalist Islamic Arab League of Nations declares President Gaddaffi a Collaborator to the Christians, Jews, Unbelievers, and issue a Death Penalty Fatawa, and start to Lobby the US and US European Allies Politicians.

President Gaddaffi makes the same critical mistake of Declaring Libyan Oil Nationalization; just like former US Ally President Hussein of Iraq did. The Oil Corporations start Lobbying the US and US European Allies to Overthrow President Gaddaffi to stop his Libyan Oil Nationalization that would take control of the Libyan Oil away from the Oil Corporations with most of the Profits remaining at Libya.

President Obama as Commander In Chief Orders the US Military to start the attacks of Libya without obeying US Law, 1973 War Powers Resolution (Restrictions of Presidential War Powers to prevent US from getting into Wars like Vietnam), requiring President Obama to warn US Congress so that they can write a US Law with US Congressional Appropriations; so President Obama uses Discretionary Spending to Fund the US Military and the later Bombs requested by the US European Allies. NATO is actually the US based on the Funding, US Military Personnel, US Military Bases, US Military Equipment, etc. as to why the Ultimate Commander of NATO as SACEUR (Supreme Allied Commander Europe) is routinely a US Military General or Admiral.

US and US Allies Military (Asymmetric Warfare) and US and Foreign Intelligence Agencies warn that the "Libyan Rebels" went to Libya months before the Libyan Civil War to start a Revolution (Asymmetric Warfare, Insurgency) by getting the Foreign Nationals brought into Libya to do the work that Libyan Citizens refused to do, to fight for Libyan Citizen's Rights and against perceived injustices.

President Obama, SOS Clinton warned that more than 80% of the "Libyan Rebels" are the Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists of Al Quada Saudi Arabia (AQ), Al Quada Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), Al Quada Syria (AQS), Al Quada Yemen (AQY), Hezbollah, Al Quada Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), etc.. Their Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadist Strategic Goals: a. Overthrow Former US and US Allies President Gaddaffi as a Collaborator to the Christians, Jews, Unbelievers., b. Create another Fundamentalist Islamic Republic., c. Obtain locations closer to attack the US European Allies "Crusaders"., d. Free the Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists that President Obama had moved from Guantanamo to President Gaddaffi's Prisons., e. Seize President Gaddaffi's Weapons, especially the 20,000 shoulder launched SA-7 anti aircraft missiles for the Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists to shoot down US Commercial Aircraft., f. Seize the other weapons, including the new Chemical Weapons, at 60 bunker Hight Razma facility on the eastern outskirts of Benghazi and a 35 bunker facility on the eastern outskirts of Ajdabiyah." The term "bunkers" is a misnomer as some of these "bunkers" were the size of warehouses. After the Libyan Military Guards were massacred at these Libyan Munitions Depots, the Facilities were left unguarded. This is how about 20,000 shoulder launched portable SA-7 anti aircraft missiles ended up "missing"; believed to be currently in the hands of Fundamentalist Islamic Al Quada and the rest of the Fundamentalist Islamic Terrorists (Jihadist, Worldwide Islamic Military), possible use shoot down US and US Ally Commerical Airlines (Aircraft) worldwide (after all the other publicly known failed attempts); most US Military and US Ally Military Aircraft have detection and countermeasures (some are still shot down by SA-7s, mistaken for RPGs (similar warhead).)., g. US And US Allies Loss of Strategic Libyan Oil to the Ally of Fundamentalist Islamic Republic of Iran, the Chinese, thru deals negotiated with the "Libyan Rebels" by the other Ally of the Fundamentalist Islamic Republic of Iran, Islamic Qatar.

So those are Facts (who, what, were, when, why, how many, how, etc.). The other details (specific percentages by group of Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists, actual percentage of over 80%, etc. are still "Classified"). As usual President Obama, SOS Clinton refuse to listen to the advise of those that are fighting, dying, etc. to get the information.

Oh, so it's okay with you, DUH44, when legal white people are intimidated, harassed and prevented from voting but you're cool with illegals with no voter ID being able to vote? Typical liberal hypocrite.

And where's that useless, racist Attorney General, Eric Holder? He's off investigating claims of voter intimidation when minorities are the victims, but not when white people are the victims.

Now the Obama campaign is creating an "enemies list" from the names of people who donated to the Romney campaign and right leaning PACs. Obama's goons are off doing opposition research on those that made donations so they can smear and intimidate them. As far as I'm concerned, that's just another form of voter intimidation that Eric Holder should be preventing. But hey, two can play that game.

Are you serious? How many normal countries where one party controls the power uses deadly force and genocide against the others? Only these kinds of nut jobs resort to this kind of tactic. Like killing people because a few Korans got burned. Barbaric.

NATO needs a strong alliance with the Arab League. It needs to be able to share resources with the Arab League over situations like Syria, but it is the Arab League which needs to take primary responsibility for Syria. - RC
