Paolo Gabriele (bottom left), the pope's butler, was arrested three days ago for allegedly feeding documents to Italian journalists.
VATICAN CITY -- The worst crisis in Pope Benedict's pontificate deepened on Monday when Italian media said at least one cardinal was among those suspected of leaking sensitive documents as part of a power struggle at the top of the Catholic Church. The pope's butler, who has been arrested, has pledged to cooperate in the probe.
Leading Italian newspapers Corriere della Sera and Il Messaggero reported Monday that the pope's butler — arrested three days ago for allegedly feeding documents to Italian journalists — clearly did not act alone, and that an unidentified cardinal is suspected of playing a major role.
The scandal exploded last week when within a few days the pope's butler was arrested, the head of the Vatican's own bank was abruptly dismissed and a book was published alleging conspiracies among the cardinals or "princes of the Church."
Vatican cops arrest pope's butler over leaked papers alleging corruption
However, the Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi, denied the reports that a cardinal might be the next target of the "Vatileaks" probe. He said many Vatican officials were being questioned but insisted: "There is no cardinal under suspicion."
Meanwhile, the lawyer for the pope's butler says his client has pledged "full cooperation" in the investigation and wants the truth to come out.
On his final day in Cuba, Pope Benedict noted that the Cuban government has taken steps to allow greater freedom of religion, but still has room for improvement. Vatican analyst George Weigel talks about the Pope's message and his meeting with Fidel Castro.
The commitment by butler Paolo Gabriele to cooperate raises the specter that higher-ranking prelates may soon be named in the scandal. Leaks of confidential Vatican correspondence have shed light on power struggles and intrigue inside the highest levels of the Catholic Church.
Gabriele, the pope's personal butler since 2006, was arrested Wednesday evening after documents he had no business having were found inside his Vatican City apartment. He remains in detention in a Vatican detention facility, accused of theft, and has met with his wife and lawyers.
The 46-year-old father of three was always considered extremely loyal to Benedict and his predecessor, John Paul II, for whom he briefly served. Vatican insiders said they were baffled by his alleged involvement. Gabriele's lawyer, Carlo Fusco, reported Monday that Gabriele was "very serene and calm."
So far, Gabriele has been the only one arrested, but Lombardi stressed that the investigation was continuing.
Pope at Easter vigil: Technology without God is dangerous
The probe is working on two separate tracks. Vatican magistrates are pursuing the criminal investigation, and Gabriele was arrested as part of that. Separately, Pope Benedict appointed three cardinals to form an investigative commission to look beyond the narrow criminal scope of the leaks.
Those cardinals have the authority to interview broadly across the Vatican bureaucracy, Lombardi said, and can both share information with Vatican prosecutors and receive information from them.
The Catholic Church accused the nation's largest organization of American nuns of espousing "radical feminist" ideas. MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell discusses the charges with Sister Jeannine Gramick, who was once silenced by the Vatican, and Jeff Stone, communications director of Dignity USA.
They report directly to the pope, who Lombardi said, was being kept informed of the investigation.
Like a Dan Brown book? Vatican allows mobster to be exhumed
Benedict has not commented directly on the scandal.
Meanwhile, hundreds of demonstrators marched to St. Peter's Square on Sunday to demand information on Emanuela Orlandi, the daughter of a Vatican messenger who disappeared in 1983 at the age of 15.
Various theories have surrounded her disappearance, linking her kidnapping to an attempt to free the Turkish gunman who shot John Paul in 1981, or to alleged Vatican financial dealings with a Rome criminal gang.
The march came a day after an Italian prosecutor told CNN that a priest who used to run a church in Rome is under investigation on suspicion of complicity in her abduction.
Reuters and The Associated Press Press contributed to this report.

Dem ruby slippers must be feeling a little tight these days.
The meek shall inherit the Earth (Mat 5.5) There is just no place where the corrupt can hide since light penetrates all quarters.
It must be part of the human DNA makeup to be continually slapped in the face over and over again, but still contribute financially, keeping their abuser in power.
Peter,
Tell that to many of our American politicians who are still in office even after receiving bribes for a particular vote. The corrupt stay where they are until someone comes with a flamethrower to clean out the crap. Problem is that the Government has taken away our flamethrower via an artful campaign to make sure we never come knocking on Congress' door in force, that our votes for or against someone are the strongest weapons in our arsenal against corrupt politicians. All the while throwing money at ad creators to tear down opposition to said corrupt politician so they stay in office regardless.
So true Geowill. But I must try to keep what little faith I have left in Universal Justice when our actions come to reconcile with our conscience. There has Never been any need for a church to tell me how to love an be in touch with my God, especially a corrupt church. In order to answer your post, I also find it difficult to being forced in paying taxes for corrupt politicians to apply to their version of a 'democratic' government.
The real power of Catholicism lies far from the Vatican. You will find it on the streets of Calcutta where the sucessor sisters of Mother Theresa continue to work long hours to cloth and feed the hungry. You will find it on the streets of Bangkok where would-be prostitutes are rescued and then educated by caring sisters and brothers. You will find it in parochial schools across America where students learn math and sciences and then enter renowned Catholic universities or medical schools. You will also find it in the simple power of prayer when someone gets on his or her knees in a local Catholic Church. Sometimes, not always...Jesus does something unexplainably good for someone in desperate need. True Catholics know the most powerful form of their faith does not emanate from the Vatican, but from within themselves through prayer, courage and acts of kindness. This is my Church.
Why would we expect it to be any different?
Power struggles have gone on everywhere, since the beginning of time ... from the highest to the lowest ... even in your own family, your workplace, ..
Just another soap opera .. As The Stomach Churns...." ... and like the old song says "Everybody Loves Dirty Laundry ...." as long as its not theirs ...

I agree that it's the humble workers in the shadows who truly do God's work without judgment. The Vatican is nothing more than a corporation where those at the top are out for power, control and money. I remember the series "The Thorn Birds" back in the 80's where the priest seduces a young woman, fathers a child, keeps returning to her but can't leave the Church because of the power it gives him.
With so much corruption and child molestation going on, it's incredible that old white male bishops want to determine if a women should be allowed to use birth control. I just wish women, especially these nuns who are being criticized for being too compassionate, should just tell the male hierarchy to "shut up".
There are numerous people who do good, who owe no fealty to any church, king nor prince. According to the Church, their reward will be eternity in Hell. So what does Hell have to offer that the Church doesn't? No fealty to the Church.
The Vatican a den of duplicitous iniquity and intrique? Who would have thought?
Of course, The Church is not new to this type of chicanery, it goes all the way back to the Borgias - practitioners of poisoning most foul - and even before that.
Mayhap, eventually, people will begin to see The Church for what it actually is; a power hungry creature that feeds off the gullibility of those foolish enough to believe it has even a distant connection to God.
In the meantime, all one can do is yawn and say "What's new?" If The Church can tacitly condone and protect pedophiles for hundreds of years and sacrifice children upon the altar of its self-righteous sense of importance, why would anyone be the least surprised at anything it does or has done?
I believe in jesus and what he died for, but i don'tt believe in the catholic church. they worry about things like who is sleeping with whom but they never worry about their own priest and bishops who rape our young. if being gay is wrong i think that's one of the things that god will judge i don't believe it's for us to judge people on that. i do believe that the church is corrupt and has been since the beginning, they use politics for there own purpose and don't care about the issue's they should be worried about. I am ashamed of the church and really have no idea what they stand for it sure isn't the rights of children or women, they are only for themselves and it's such a shame
"Christianity is the most perverted system that ever shone on a man."--Thomas Jefferson
Wrong, Mr. Jefferson, Catholicism is.
You will find it in the hallowed halls of legislatures around the country, where Catholic lobbyists work tirelessly to restrict the civil rights of gay Americans.
the catholics worry about a b irth control pill and gays having somme rights, yet they have 1,000"s of child molesting priests that thay have hidden away and keep them protected.. but let one of us molest a child and they are hell fire and brimstone.. and just recently an article discussed a group where father wilson had fathered a child but was still in the faith..and the now deceased leader of that group had 4 children that he did not support, plus he had sodom ized every youg priest in his group..
so we should say praise the lord!!!!! or WTF is going on
you tube search....... Pharaoh, Frogs, and Freedom
Why do gays want to marry when heterosexual marriage is becoming passe anyway. Give me a break about the human rights crap. Gay marriage is a fantasy anyway. The ifidelity rate among gays is double that of hetero couples, so again what is the point of gay marriage?
Robert Bruce70: Really now? Where is your proof that 'ifidelity' is double for homosexuals? You just made it up or heard another bigot make it up didn't you?
@crews;
The problem is, that it IS the church's job to warn people of sin BEFORE they are judged. After/during judgement, it's too late.
And give it a break about the 'child rape' crap people. I'll give you $100 for every catholic priest raping kids, and you give me $0.01 for every single one not doing it, and tell me who comes out ahead. Then we can start comparing non-chrisitian/catholic rapes and see who is doing more.
Hey, I got an idea. Now let's start all blaming blacks for all the rapes too. Sounds just as ignorant!
Motz in KC- You are wrong dear, in those places you mention lie the heart of the faith not the power. The power resides in money.
It isn't just the Catholic church...they are all corrupt and useless except as social clubs. Look at all the tax revenue uncollected(!) on some hellacious properties and income...tax all churches (fairly) and just think of the public social programs that would be funded...after all, wasn't that the basis for churches to operate in the first place--to care for the less fortunate? Now they might as well be Fortune 500 businesses!
If you allow someone else to define your sins for you, you are as stupid as they are.
there is little consensus , god knows, on ethical behavior beyond Malo in se but the constitution and jesus both admonished us to be kind to people and do not annoy. A message which has been lost in translation. To violate these precepts should produce in any sentient human a sense of sin-an agenbite of inwit. You can dull this conscience by taking a stance that you will be saved if you believe a magic formula.see John 3:14. Now you can behave anyway you want to.
Stoops -- gotta say you're wrong about the Borgias; most of what's been written about them can be traced back to two or three writers (Guicciardini being the most obscene) that never knew them personally but came from regions incredibly hostile to the family. Basically they fabricated rumours of incest and poisoning to make them look bad. Rafael Sabatini provides a great refutation for most of these allegations in "The Life of Cesare Borgia" -- won't bore you with the particulars here.
Sorry, realized I got a bit off-topic, but I'm kind of sick of all this Borgia-bashing I've seen lately.
I agree, however, that any sort of institution that's been around for a while will endure its share of scandal and foul play. Religious organizations, sadly, are not exempt -- they are, after all, composed of humans.
I agree wholeheartedly with the individual who proposed that we tax all churches and use those taxes for social programs. It would certainly have a major impact on our budget deficits- -both at the state and federal levels. Of course, we couldn't let the churches run the operation- -heaven only knows what demands they would put on those who receive the benefits of the programs.
hmmm, so the police have nothing and this is still a story? Leave it to MSNBC to find the wothless crap, not catholic BTW, baptist, I dont care to much for them either...
also, its not even that much money compared to the 16 trillion dollars of debt, mabey a few million dollars...
Oh and, THE BUTLER DID IT!!!!!!!!!
If you study human history...men have always taken advantage of people in their lives if they are corrupt no matter what station in life you may be there just for that purpose to distroy a church, nation...world...by your behavior...it is not only done by priests or religious...medical doctors, nurses, etc. have done their share of abuse...or worse...throughtout time...none are exempt...praying to God to show us the way is all we can do...are credo is to forgive...God help us all...our religion is faith and hope...and charity...gospel today was can you give all to follow him? life is hard...let us pray once more ...
Does anyone besides me find it unsettling that the Vatican, a huge religious outfit with influence at every corner of the globe, has it's own detention facility?????
It has been suggested that Bill Gates has done more for the poor of India than the Catholic Church ever considered.
j70141 in Colorado
Seriously? You are trying to justify child rape by the number of guilty against those not being guilty? Wow, just Wow!
Is there any way to validate your viewpoint without desensitizing the harm being done? I sure hope so.
the amount that is good outways the amount that was evil? For instance the nuke: it saved millions by ending WW2, the evil that has come pails in comeparison to the good.
How can the article call this "the worst crisis for the pope" when nothing is worse than the cover up and blind eyed continuation of the sexual abuse and exploitation of children by the priests.
A "power struggle" within the Vatican is hardly a drop in the bucket compared to the many other sins of the church.
Very good point sumatmyrolls
Catholicism? Christianity? not big difference, all religions are man-made and for millennia now, religion has been nothing but a forcible "taking over" of human thoughts, emotions, and feelings; it's a persuasive way of intimidation and manipulation for the purpose of controlling masses of people by irrational promises, and fear and guilt (an agent of punishment and destruction for those who don't adhere to their particular cults or denominations) ...some with the express intention of making sure they condemn anyone else who doesn't share their beliefs and dogmas.
And what to say about the bible…well, the Bible should not be taken literally. It contains verses descriptive or advocating suicide, incest, bestiality, sadomasochism, sexual activity in a violent context, murder, morbid violence, voyeurism, revenge, human rights violations and atrocities. It encourages hatred, bigotry, violence, fanaticism, murder, and genocide.
“Belief is a powerful thing. It can lead you to kill millions, sanction rape and torture, commit war and theft, molest children, drink koolaid, and give all your worldly possessions to priests and charismatic blowhards."
“Christianity is exactly what the Romans designed it to be; a weapon for generating power and wealth and a means of instilling fear in its followers to keep that weapon active and successful.”
“Religion is based . . . mainly on fear . . . fear of the mysterious, fear of defeat, fear of death. Fear is the parent of cruelty, and therefore it is no wonder if cruelty and religion have gone hand in hand. . . . My own view on religion is that of Lucretius. I regard it as a disease born of fear and as a source of untold misery to the human race." [Bertrand Russell]
Not only that (and torture chambers on the premises), but the office of the Holy Roman Inquisition is still open for business.....they just gave it a more PC name in 1904. In fact the current pope used to run that office, back when he was hiding pedophile priests.
Thank you Amanda in LA for the info re the Borgias - I will have to look into Sabatini's work.
I wasn't aware there was a lot of Borgia bashing going on these days. :) Must have missed that memo.
But, if they were in fact nice folk and not inclined to spike their competitions drinks with poison, I take it back; after all, it's not like there aren't plenty of other Popes one could point to if one wanted to find examples of monsters in papal frocks who have headed Pedophiles R Us.
I really like Sabatini's writing; been ages since I've thought about him - did you ever read his Scaramouche? Makes you want to take up fencing!

All religions are to spiritual enlightenment what a black hole is to light - the end of it.
Each of us already has within us a built in guidance system designed to lead us to oneness with God - it is the religions that get in the way, cloud the issue and subvert and derail our natural inclination to seek God by playing on our insecurities and doubts and by selling people the bill of goods that by buying into their path they will more quickly find our way to the light.
Never has happened; never will happen; you can't hit a target if you are turned in the complete opposite direction of the target.
Organized religions are about power and controlling peoples' minds and money, but if someone wants to invest their life force in them and it makes them happy, so be it, more power to them; just so they don't try to force the rest of us to join them in their spiritual "bliss" by infringing on the rights of women, or gays or by blowing up planes etc to make their point.

Ex-religious, you seem to be operating from a false premise, that being that just because the Bible mentions these sordid sins means that it and the God it represents condones them. For a true picture of what the Bible teaches consider the words of Jesus who taught us to love everyone including even our enemies, and do treat others as we ourselves would like to be treated - with love, respect and dignity. It is not Jesus' or the Bible's fault that there are those in the Catholic Church from the Pope on down who have not lived by those precepts as seen in the Crusades and the Inquisition.

You are right with that last observation, Stoops. It goes back even further than that - like more than a thousand years before the Borgias. Ever since the time of Constantine, when Christianity became the state religion, there has been corruption in the Church. Christianity was better off under persection in the Roman empire. At least it had a semblance of purity then.
Debi-1314897 wrote:

Ah, now we're getting at the heart of the issue. The Roman Catholic Church remains in power because of the Mass. Adherants are taught from the time they are able they able to reason that they must partake of the mass or their sins will not be forgiven and they will burn in Hell for eternity. So the fear factor keeps them in line. They dare not rock the boat, and even when they do good, such as the American nuns, it must have the Church's sanction or they will be slapped down.
The problem is that the mass is based on a false interpretation of the scriptures; namely that the sacrements become literally the body and blood of the Lord and are then offered up as a fresh sacrifice to adherants. This is so unbiblical. The body and blood of the Lord was a one-time sacrifice, offered in heaven, once and for all. Consider what the writer of the book of Hebrews has to say on the matter. Speaking of Jesus and His high priestly office, he writes:
26 Such a high priest meets our need--one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens.27 Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.
12 He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption.
24 For Christ did not enter a man-made sanctuary that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God's presence.25 Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own.26 Then Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.27 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
10 And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.11 Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.12 But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God.
Hebrews 7:26-27; 9:12, 24-28; 10:10-12 New International Version
The bolded words "once for all" are translated from the Greek word ephapax, which means "once and only once". So, why are Catholic priests continually offering up the body and blood of the Lord here on earth, which we can see was offered only one time in heaven itself?
Bishop J.C. Ryle in his immortal book Five English Martyrs (possibly retitled to Five English Reformers) points out that during the English Reformation during the persecution of Mary Tudor (they didn't call her Bloody Mary for nothing), this was the acid test of whether a reformer was to be set free or burned at the stake: did he/she believe that the sacraments at mass became literally the body and blood of the Lord and was the only means of salvation or not. If the answer was no, the result was martyrdom.
Ryle also listed 5 reasons why this doctrine (also called transubstatiation) was false. Among these is that the mass becomes a form idolatry, assigning a significance to the sacraments that was never intended. It also exalts the Catholic priests to the position of Jesus Christ, our faithful High Priest, offering up His body and blood, which He alone should rightfully do. Intrusion into the priestly office is a very serious matter. It denies the finished work of Christ on the cross and in effect crucifies Him afresh. And finally, it denies the true humanity of Christ. If His body and blood are continually offered many times over at any given second in various locales scattered throughout God's green earth, it is most certainly not a human body.
In short, I am a follower of Jesus Christ, and I urge all to also be true followers of Him, whether Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant or whatever you may call yourselves. Follow His teachings and reject that which is false.
"Eyes wide shut " in reality.......
Wow the church has so many problems to solve, so let's start with an easy one. Why does the church use that stinky carcinogenic incense during church services that makes so many people sick? Why not change to a zesty apple cinnamon smell, or maybe a French Vanilla that stimulates the senses that will keep you awake. My favorite would be the glazed donut smell.......ladies love it.....Oh Ya! If the church can upgrade from the accordion to guitar, it is time to upgrade the aroma for a positive experience!
If only Moses had not dropped the third tablet on the way down from the Mount, and it's members obeyed commandments #11-15 the church would not be in such a mess.
The other 5 commandments were:
11. Be fruitfull and/or multiply. (This means Gays ok by god!}
12. Women must remove all tags from thongs before wearing.
13. Bet double down on Seabiscuit VS Admiral at Pilmico.
14. Buy low sell high.
15. Don't be stupid.
AjahnCliff
Amen. Also disturbing are the icons of the crucifix, the crucified Christ on the crosses, like a defeated Christ.
They crucify Christ over and over again with their man made doctrines and dogmas which Christ never spoke of.
Jesus' truth got lost along this corrupt path.
Exodus 20:4 "You must not make for yourself a carved image or a form like anything that is in the heavens above or that is on the earth underneath or that is in the waters under the earth."
August- Agreed.
I have heard it said that the Catholic Church is the whore of Babylon who sat upon the beast in the book of Revelations. Who knows? One day we all will.
Stoops2Conquer -- Oh, I adore Scaramouche. Captain Blood as well. Cool to meet a fellow fan!
The Borgias were about as "nice" as you could get in the Renaissance, which is to say, still quite ambitious -- the Papacy was an ecclesiastical empire, after all -- but certainly no Sforza-esque poisonings, no fratricide, and nothing as foul as HBO and Showtime are getting at, I assure you (Showtime has a series running now I believe; hence the reference to "Borgia bashing"). I highly recommend "The Life of Cesare Borgia" if you're a Sabatini fan. History that reads like a novel. You can probably find that on gutenberg as well!
Agreed re: your second point on organized religion vs. spirituality. It's too easy just to go through the motions of belonging to a congregation without giving any real meaning to one's faith. That's where you get these groups of people who use religious doctrine to spread hate rather than communion.
Why are illegals exempt from following the Ten Commandments?
All this sounds like 'b'ness as usual' to me.. They've already given up their sacrificial lamb, you nor the law will ever receive anything else. Don't you know these guys are exempt from common law, only God's law applies to them and as long as there's a breath left in them they'll be free to do as they've done for centuries.
The Catholic Church in America owns over one trillion dollars in property it pays no taxes on. It is one of the largest political ativists in this country and pays no taxes because it hides under the skirt of being a religion who are not supposed to be political. Go figure.
All these arm chair political hacks. "Vote the corrupt politicians out!" What morons. Our government works, it works well, it is what we make it.
AjahnCliff: I agree with you re: attempting to follow the teachings of Jesus, but try as hard as I might, many meanings are way beyond my limited human comprehension. Jesus was obviously not from this planet, though from which, I'm not sure. The Ten Commandments are a little easier to grasp, though not any easier to abide by.
As for the bible, I believe it does promote and condone violence, murder, bigotry, etc., and although written and rewritten by man, the sentence in Genesis stating we were created in God's image is enough to scare the bejeebers out of me that we could be a dysfunctional reflection of our Creator and may be stuck with the foibles of man eternally.
@easydoesit;
Sorry, I didn't add the disclaimer for those of lower IQ. Here you go:
"I am not justifying the rape of children, only the ignorance of those trying to blame catholics. And those trying to blame jews, blacks, homosexuals, or anyone else of any group, race, or color."
j70141 in Colorado: We are speaking specifically of catholic priests committing these crimes against children; so, who else would be blamed but catholics?
Mary-404323:
"life is hard...let us pray once more ..."
And where has years and years and years of prayer gotten us?
The article talks about corruption, didn't see anything about child rape.
Oh, I get it now. So if the article had been about homosexuals, but nothing about child rape, we would all be discussing how homosexuals have been raping children? Especially since I am certain that there would probably be a higher number of homosexuals raping children in this world than catholic priests.
Why would anyone think that a group of self-important men wearing ornamental hats and gowns, engaged in pageantry and theater are not gay? Instead, we call this the Catholic religion. I was raised Catholic and gave up on the nonsense called religion at age 9. With all the me-first, narcissistic behavior in the world today, I am surprised that religion still thrives. Perhaps the next millennium will relegate religion to the tourist attraction it should be.
why would anyone be surprised at this..... The church through-out history has been corrupt. It covers any and all disgusting impropriorties either with donated money or by corruption and deceit. Everyone from the children to adults have suffered through this for centuries
Since this is one of the three largest Organizations on the planet; of course there will be infighting, the Roman Church has vast holdings all over the planet, it has over twice as many members as all the population of North America, it is governed by human beings(enough said about that); in country's, corporations and any world wide group people are always jocking for power, that is the nature of mankind.
Where in the world is Dan Brown?
comeon really: You've already judged and hung the butler based on a story you read here on Huffington Post. Come On Really!!!
As usual with the Catholic hierarchy in Rome, if it's not one of them slippin' his pecker where he has vowed not to, he's slippin' his fingers into the cookie jar - and why not? It is all someone else's money!
G-d made us as sexual beings to encourage procreatation via making it feel good. The process of procreating is to add to G-d's grand plan. The Catholics credo of priests being celibate, as i see it, is contrary to G-d's planned human procreation/sexual naure. I can't understand why celibacy is required for catholic priest. Although I hesitate to say this ,the catholics credo regarding priest is wrong, prehaps, hence, the pedophile prest.
I have much repect for the catholic religion, however something is obviously going wrong. Is it time for a review and revamp of the doctrine?
The cock has been crowing for thousands of years.
Read that somewhere. Jesus in this "outfit" has been totally denied.
I don't believe Jesus would have a butler pouring him a glass of wine.
Tired of Entitlement: The answer to your celibacy question is to follow the money.
Both of my great grandfathers were married Greek Catholic priests from Europe. Once they came here in the early 1900's, they were ordered to turn all their property over to the church or be ex-communicated.
The church does not want property (money) going to any possible heirs. Thus, marriage will never be allowed in the Catholic church.
The butler did it, with a candle...in the library.
Bishop Sheen was once told this. That we are sexual beings and we must follow our natures.
He replied: "But our natures shouldn't be that of PIGS!"
Sheen was a fool who often contradicted even himself. This statement proves he used words to twist the truth.
No supprises here. Besides the vast land holdings the massive amounts of money it makes off its fields of sugar cane and cacao bean plantations or the money it collects as tithings {all tax free} theres plenty of money in corporate Catholocism to be embezzled. Oh and the money it blows into crooked polititians campaigns world wide.. giving new meaning to PAC {political action catholicism}
you are right on the mark buddy
Lets not forget also the money needed for paying off the pedophile abuses committed by priests and the Vatican art holdings. All that money the faithful have paid and on and on. What would St Peter think now 2000 years later.
leaking vatican papers can get you arrested------abusing children gets you transferred. tells you what the vatican thinks is important.
+1 on that!
If there's nothing there to expose, what are they worried about? They have their own police to take care of it, interesting. Poor butler don't stand a chance!
I really want to know what the Italian newspaper printed. I haven't heard anything yet. Since the church turns everything into gold and pays there bills, It is not clear as to how much profit they make. I think the churches should pay a property tax to their locations, towns or counties. Church donations are tax deductable to a point and most people don't go over it by much. Add it all up for all the churches across this land and that is one bundle of cash every year.
oh we need to see there sins..for all the world to see.
are you talking about the mafia Church.nah cant be
Kind of strange all this coming out in the media after the Catholic church jumped Obama about the obamacare!!!!!!
Actually the Vatican supports a nationalized health care system - they think Romneycare doesn't go far enough.
It came out, because the butler, was going to tell the truth. Can't have him spilling the beans.
They will now, shut him up. Along with anyone else. Who thinks, they should speak out.
elvis doesnt know the difference between their and there roflao
And you don't know what punctuation is.
Glass houses break easily.
Another thing to think about when the Catholic Church starts lecturing us about sex, contraception, marriage and morality. Self serving would be an understatement.
saltylen- You're an idiot, do you think the Italian press and authorities give a @!$%# about America's struggles with our national health care system? Also, you can see that I know the difference between your and you're...I know that's a big deal to you.
Ain't it great the way the "Papal Presence" abhors abortion when the convent basements are full of the skeletons and rotting fetuses of "inconvenient" babies?
Kiss my ass infidels !! How is that for punctuation?
Not very good. There's no space between infidels and the exclamation points.
Jimmy that is too funny!
better luck next time saltylen.
I imagine there's a treasure trove of information in documents that would be very enlightening indeed. Perhaps the butler just couldn't turn a blind eye anymore. And it must be nice to live like a king while the meek remain so, as they are instructed. More money and power for the king and his princes.
The Vatican of the Medici's is alive and well. Making Machiavelli proud.
Ah, Machiavelli - The Prince.
Power corrupts.
Why the "Vatican" is a "state" is beyond me.
Outside of the Vatican City, he probably never would have been arrested.
Besides he LIVED in the Vatican City and the papers never left there (physically).
Is this "theft"?
The butler so far seems to be calm and collected.
It's possible he wants more from this than money or fame.
Perhaps he just wants the truth to be known?
Religion at levels as high as this have ALWAYS been corrupt.
It is the nature of the beast.
It is not the religion that is to blame but the vermin 5cum who run it and think they are above the law!
Religion IS to blame.
Look around you.
You have COUNTLESS different "varieties" and all want to be on top of the Tower of Babel.
They are corrupt, and much worse MAN MADE.
They cause wars and death more than ANY famine or plague EVER caused.
God does not need your religion.
It might be, that he only wants you to believe in HIM.
And NOT the human concoction known as "religion".
And people still give this corrupt organization their hard-earned money...so sad.
One thing for certain - we know there will be a "thorough and intensive investigation" of this ....just like
the Church has with the "Molestation of the Innocents".....oh wait!
btw - I like how the Pope appointed 3 Cardinals to investigate this.......think we have seen this movie before!
Coverup and burial of the truth more like.
This does sound like a frigging Dan Brown style of book. I wonder what documents are being leaked to cause this kind of reaction, would be interesting to see the skeletons inside of the Vatican closet, I bet there are some doosies.
I can assure you, or at least I believe, that we will never know what these documents are that are in question, and we will probably never hear from the poor a** butler again either. The Catholic church will never "go down". They are worth billions. It's no wonder they have such control.
Beware of the Bishop who is spreading his power from South America to Central America & ends with a Major Bang in Mexico - funny how things get blown out of proportion, when it come to the Catholic Church. Rome has no clue what's going on in Latin America - It's goin to be Huge!
First, the whistle blowers exposing the corruption are NOT the bad guys here. But of course, THEY are the ones that have to go to jail...
Whistle blowers are always made out to be the bad guys. The corrupt use terms like "criminals", "traitors", act of treason" and such do get people to agree with them. Bradley Manning is an excellent example. Here is a guy who shed light on many of the illegal things our military is doing and he has been branded as a traitor by quite a few people.
The only way to expose corruption is to forcefully drag it out into plain sight, there is always going to be backlash from those implicated because they have been caught red handed and do not want to lose power. So they try to invalidate the claims by branding that person as this or that, something that will resonate with people and get them to agree with their position.
Calling someone a traitor, saying someone was risking lives is an excellent way to remove the power from what they have exposed. In reality risking lives does not matter if no one was killed and especially when the leaked documents prove that the military has killed civilians intentionally.
The same thing is playing out here, the Vatican is in damage control mode and will do what ever they have to, say what ever they have to, to irrelevantize the leaked documents and then will bury this information.
corruption, leaks, power struggles...sounds like a typical government to me...
they are a government
it is funny to see the one who told of the corruption ..is the one who they arrested
Fantastic! Maybe the corruption will bring this corrupt organization down and leave only rubble behind!
The mark of the beast..its right in front of yall people
What is it with a Church having top secret documents? Vatican only means a Church, even though it's made up like it's stronger then God and the bible. Many religions have moved on and lived, allowing females be pastors and allowing the pastor be married with children. I have no beef of the bible, for it's interesting and haves good things in it. Still it was wrote by a bunch of old guys without hardly any input by females. We still have afew middle east countries living in the stone age era, but this is America. I want to believe God would of adjusted with our new era in many ways. The bible cannot be completely clear on it's words. Otherwise we wouldn't have so many different religions telling us we will goto hell, if we are not that one type of religion. We are in America, with the majority of us having friends with many different religions, without judging them. I want to believe God would be the same as long as it's good for families on attending the Church of their choice, being friends with most.
read up on the history of the bible.....and what a political document it is......Christ's teachings cannot be found in the Catholic Church
the catholic church is a joke and if you give them your money you're an idiot and a supporter of this bullsh*t oh yea and child molestation. CATHOLICS = PEDOPHILE SUPPORTERS. if you are dead set on belonging to a religion, there are dozens to choose from, all preach the same garbage, and all want your money. choose wisely.
right on
the legal age of consent in vatican city is 12 and you guys dont think they are corrupt?
