A human hand was found at a mail sorting depot in Canada's capital on Tuesday night, just hours after a foot was delivered to the country’s Conservative party headquarters, according to reports.
The discovery came on the same day a janitor in Montreal found a rotting human torso in a suitcase, although police said it was too early to connect the cases.
“It’s just awful,” Conservative MP Brad Trost told the Ottawa Citizen newspaper, adding: “I don’t think any of us are thinking this necessarily has anything to do with politics.”
A party worker opened a blood-stained box containing the foot at the office in Ottawa's Albert St. – near Parliament Hill - before calling police, the newspaper reported.
The Citizen said police later found a human hand at the Ottawa Postal Terminal, which handles all of the city’s mail. It said the package was not destined for the Conservative Party of Canada but police wouldn’t say where it was to be sent.

Police Sgt. Steve Hodgson said the package containing the foot was addressed to the Conservative Party of Canada and not to a specific person, according to the National Post.
The torso discovery in Montreal was made at 10.15 a.m. ET by a janitor who was investigating complaints about a terrible odor coming from behind a building on the city’s Snowdon Street, according to CTV. It is not known how long the body part had been there.
“I noticed flies and when I looked closer I saw maggots,” janitor Mike Nadeau told the Ottawa Citizen. “I got a friend and we got some cutters because there was a little lock on the suitcase. What I saw when we opened it is hard to describe. There was no head and (the torso) was all grey.”

Hoser? really? Youre still using that? I love how Americans watch one movie/ skit from the 70s/80s and they still think that thats how Canadians are. The stereotypes that you group us all in only applies to about 5% of the population and btw can legitimately be applied to more Americans. There are a lot more crazy dialects in the US than there are in Canada and barely anyone ever says "aboot" (that's an east coast thing where ppl sound like theyre from Fargo).
As for this foot thing. I live in the city that it happened and let me tell you, its the most boring Government town ever. I was downtown with my husband last night and he was pointing out well dressed business attire people on the street and said that "they were probably working" (as in undercover) and he explained to me that because its the capital city there is FBI, RCMP, local PD, and other law enforcement strewed around the core at all times (we have our parliament building, the us embassy, the PM residence, and other embassies within a few miles of one another) about 5 minutes after he said this cops started to close down the street around us and it seemed like something major was going to go down.... then protesters started marching down the street...Protesters....which were corralled down another street...and another....That was the most exciting thing that happens in our city...extremely organized and polite protesting. So believe me when I say that this severed foot thing is completely out of the norm ...lol well sort of because for the past few years severed feet have been washing up on the west coast shores of Canada....lol but other than that, completely out of the norm...we like to keep our crimes on either end of the spectrum, completely boring or sociopathic...usually boring though.
Take it easy Rose. People are just having fun with this news item. No need for a long winded explanation. As for Canadians and Americans, both countries are very fortunate to have each other as neighbors. As a native American, I couldn't be more happier and prouder to have Canada as our friend and neighbor.
@ Tom :I'm not upset at all I actually find most of the comments on funny. Im not an easily offend person, I just have the misfortune of having severe involuntary eye rolling whenever I hear someone using outdated stereotypes that literally do not apply to anyone up here.
That being said, the long windedness actually was when I was talking about how uneventful and occasionally lame it is up here and crazy severed body part type crimes are not the norm but an unusually welcome break to the monotony ;)

Oh and we have more than 70's/80's shows to go off of to make fun of our northern neighbors. How I Met Your Mother is a great recent sitcom that gives us plenty to go on...You're all afraid of the dark, hopefully if the head was mailed it at least had a light source to go with it.
Well anyway, take it easy up there Canada we already have Mexico's problems leaking across the border, we don't need yours as well.

B)One good thing about Canadians is that we don't mind laughing at ourselves which is why we actually love it when American sitcoms mention us in a joke every once in awhile. I never really got into How I Met Your Mother but I have heard some of the jokes, and yes we all laugh at them too...lol I'm going to assume that you're smart enough not to actually believe them though...because if you're not then you would be playing into a stereotype that people have about Americans which I generally don't agree with.

FYI the homicide rate of Canada is 1.9% (610 in 2009) and the US is 5% (13,636 in 2009) so I think we're doing just fine with keeping our problems separate, thanks

A long time ago I had an aunt and uncle who lived very near Snowden Street. Wonder who the torso in the suitcase belonged to. Could there be other parts en route somewhere?
