Four Pakistani men accused of helping a Pakistani American who tried to explode a car bomb in Times Square were acquitted by a Pakistani anti-terror court on Saturday, the New York Times and other media reported, citing a lawyer and relatives.
Muhammad Shouaib Mughal, Shahid Hussain, Humbal Akhtar and Faisal Abbasi were arrested in Pakistan shortly after Faisal Shahzad tried to detonate the bomb on May 1, 2010. Shahzad later pleaded guilty and is serving a life sentence without parole.
The four had been accused of providing financial and logistical support.
Shahzad admitted traveling to Pakistan for training by Taliban fighters.
