Murderer's corpse dragged from car, eaten by bear in Canada

The body of a missing convicted murderer was dragged out of a car by a bear that ate part of it and buried the rest, authorities in Canada said Saturday, according to reports.

Rory Nelson Wagner, 53, was out on parole from a murder sentence when he vanished from Kamloops, British Columbia, on May 23, CTV reported.

The black bear was later euthanized by conservation officers, CTV said late Saturday.

The Vancouver Sun said Wagner and two others were charged with killing a man who they believed had sexually assaulted their family member.

Wagner eventually pleaded guilty to murder and was convicted in 1996, according to BCLocalNews.com. Parole documents show the murder victim was charged with the sexual assault but found not guilty shortly before the killing.

Hunters came across the remains after finding an abandoned Volkswagen Jetta on a logging road. The bear pulled Wagner’s corpse from the vehicle through an open window and buried him under a pile of dirt and vegetation.

When the hunters made the grisly find, the bear was still in the area, protecting the food stash, BCLocalNews reported.

Conservation officer Darcy MacPhee told CTV: “The bite mark measurements that we had from the body matched perfectly with the teeth on that [euthanized] bear, so we were confident that we had the animal that had been feeding on this person.”

There were conflicting reports about whether Wagner had committed suicide in the car, ahead of autopsy and toxicology tests to determine the likely cause of death.

"It's not going to be particularly difficult. In any case, it does take several weeks for toxicology results to come back. It's fairly standard," coroner Mark Coleman told the Vancouver Sun.

Somedays, you eat the bear; somedays the bear eats you.

Sometimes you know your child, and when your child starts saying that a man touched them, you know when they are lying or not. I'm not saying we should have vigilante justice, and I'm not saying this man was right, I don't know the situation.

But I know the courts and justice system doesn't guarantee justice, just what we say is the best utilitarian way of dealing with crime and justice. Casey Anthony and OJ were guilty. OJ confirmed it later when he wrote a book about how he committed the crime. Casey confirmed it when she partied and got a celebratory tattoo days after she knew her child was dead.

Is "sorry our court obviously gets it wrong sometimes but it is the best for the common good" good enough for you when your child has been sexually molested? Sorry, but if I know you raped my kid as much or more than I know OJ and Casey were guilty, expect me to kill you, just don't expect me to kill you quickly. And before you judge, I'll make sure to kill the rapist in a way in which the court won't convict me. That way, according to some on here, I'll be "not guilty", so no harm, no foul.

All I'm really saying is that if you make a vague reference to a case in which a man killed someone he believed molested his kid, I'm not judging the killer one way or another.

Maybe it was a "pedo-bear", and he was angry at someone for killing one of his own.

The moment I read the article, I thought "If that's not the definition of Karma, I don't know what is".

Seriously though, it's gotta suck to die that way :(

He murdered a man aquitted of sex charges involving TWO of his nieces, both children. It can be hard to get a conviction for sex crimes. It can also be hard to let it go when justice hasn't been done.

And what makes you think the acquitted man was actually guilty? There's a reason it's hard to get a conviction for any crime. It's having to establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Hearsay, circumstantial evidence, and rumor are not the sole basis for a conviction in this country, and that is a good thing. I had a friend who was murdered by a vengeance seeking cop down in south Jersey, solely for being a character witness for a man accused of exposing himself to the cop's daughter. His wife was also brutally murdered by this same pig, as well as the acquitted man and his wife and son, all with his department-issued MP-5 machine gun. The pig later shot himself to death. Too bad, because I would have paid money to seem him do a hard time life sentence in a state pen, where he would have truly learned what sex crime is, all day, every day. Is that what you call "doing justice"? If it is, you better stay out of my neighborhood. And you sure as hell better stay out of my face.

Another bit of idiocy re man induced logic. That bear should have been given a medal, then re-located to a deeper part of the woods where he could have live out it's days as a productive member of faunic society. But kill the bear? - I don't think so...................

No matter how you slice this one, it's a tragedy all the way around. First, we have a family member who was sexually (Rory) the killer of this sexual deviate that victimized Rory's family member was released from prison on parole after serving his time. Fourth, and then found dead, eaten by a bear.

Some would look at Rory as a hero for dishing out some street justice on the sexual deviate. Sadly, his efforts for justice got him a stretch in prison, and after serving his time he is now free. After all of that, he's found partially buried, and partially eaten by a bear, was nothing less than tragic. Even if he committed suicide, or was killed by another to be eaten by a bear is just HORRIFIC. May he RIP.

The bear did indeed need to be put down after tasting human flesh, because in turn the bear would have looked at humans as a food source. VERY DANGEROUS for humans. Most bears only attack humans in defense of their young, or if they are protecting their food source.

My heart goes out to all the families connected to this sad course of events.

It always amazes me how known criminals are let back out on our streets to kill, rape, sell drugs and molest children over and over again. Why did they euthanize the bear ??

Instead of wasting taxpayer money to take care and feed these criminals, take known serial criminals - one bullet to the back of the head - and let the animals eat them ! Keep certain animals just for this purpose.

                What ??!!

Poor bear....just found some rotting meat and took advantage of it. The bear didn't know the rotting meat was formerly a human.

I agree that it was purely political. People scream like crazy when a bear or other wild animal attacks a human but somehow can justify the human on human aggression that goes on every day. More humans are killed by other humans than any animal and yet we are so quick to destroy God's creatures. Shame on us!

I suggest folks write the authorities and express their displeasure.

I never can understand this need to euthanize any animal that attacks a human. We are taking their lands, etc. And I agree that this bear should have gotten a medal!

Problem is, the bear has proven to have a taste for human flesh. The next victim will probably be an innocent.

Let me get this right. A bear is put to death for feeding off the dead body of a murderer and sexual assualt person? What the hell is the problem? They say what goes around comes around, right. So, nature had it's last laugh and this @!$%# got hidden and eatten by a bear. What a good bear, why kill it for a much needed service. And, wasting time doing an autopsy? Oh, hell, no, just leave him to the bear and move on...:-)

I do not understand why they killed the bear- the murderer was already dead- the bear was doing what any wild animal would do- he did not know it was a human- it was food to him- people are so ignorant -this makes me very angry- they are protraying this conivted felon as a victim- he got what he deserved- the bear did nothing wrong-shame on these people who killed the bear - shame on you.

So why was the bear " euthanized " ? You governments out there that don't take care of your people should be "euthanized". Such as Nigeria, Iran, North Korea, etc.....

Some of you posters should actually look up the word eugenics in the dictionary. And then read your Holy Bibles again.

It's unfortunate for the man's family that he is dead, whatever the circumstance. And it's unfortunate that the bear had to be euthanized, just for trying to survive.
