Subscribe to RSSA South African who had won a Miss Gay pageant was found in his rented room with his throat slit, news24 reported.
Thapelo Makutle, 23, had argued late Friday night with two men about his sexuality, his friend, Shaine Griqua told mambaonline.com. Those two men followed him home, broke down his door and killed him, Griqua said.
Makutle, known as Queen Bling, was active in the LGBT community in the Kuruman region, a rural area in the north, Griqua told mambaonline.com. He said his friend identified as gay and recently started calling himself transgender.
"It's so sad. I can't describe the pain that we are feeling right now," Griqua told mambaonline. "We have lost a young, talented, gay man who was open about who he was. The last few days have been like a dark cloud."
Griqua, the director of Legbo Northern Cape, a nonprofit that provides sexual health education, released a statement saying that witnesses had seen Thapelo’s body, and that his genitalia had been “severed and inserted into his mouth.”
There was no sign of burglary, Griqua said, according to globalpost.com.
Police have not arrested anyone in the case, according to media reports.
South Africa has long been lauded for its liberal positions on gay rights. The country was the first to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation in its constitution, and same-sex marriage became legal in 2006.
But a Human Rights Watch report from 2011 found that black lesbians and transgender men in rural areas of South Africa face “extensive discrimination and violence in their daily lives, both from private individuals and government officials.”
Nearly all 120 people interviewed by Human Rights Watch said they lived in fear of sexual assault and that they were reluctant to approach police for protection.

Because Africa is the leader in AIDS I can see why a couple of people thought it was OK to help with the spread of this disease.
So then how do the heterosexual people get AIDS? A lot of unprotected sex with a lot of people of all sex orientation. I would think there must be enough blame to go around in this one.
Killing like that shows rage. How did they get into it in the first place? Some people just can't stomach all that "I am really gay" "get ups", and some gays can really get into ones face. But killing the guy, is still wrong.

@al You have the right to your opinion but you don't have the right to broadcast your hatred to the world. You should consider however how your comments may hurt others and then ask yourself why you feel the need to cause pain to individuals who already experience enough pain in their lives. You should also consider how prevalent forms of sexuality other than heterosexuality are and realize that you are knowingly or, more likely unknowingly given your obvious hatred of such individuals, hurting someone you love and who loves you back. And for what? Because you don't like the thought of homosexuality. Here's an idea...if it bothers you, don't think about it and certainly don't read about it.

Just another example of people being tired of having gay people forced on them. I hear people wondering why others are so concerned with what happens in private bedrooms...
No one cares about private bedrooms. But when it's in our faces, in our schools and everywhere else we are being forced to care about it...
I don't force my heterosexual feelings on anyone. I don't parade around with a sign telling everyone I'm straight and beg people to accept me. I don't force it on anyone. So don't force your lifestyle on me.
FIRST, unless you were there and know what happend exactly, you can not say anything was forced or flaunted by this person. you do not know really anything about this other than what the media tells you and we all know that the media many times does not tell all of the story or even have all the facts. the person that died and the people that killed him are the only ones that know and who knows if the murderers are even telling the truth about anything that happend.
if you wish to wear a sign telling people that you are straight go ahead and wear one, but dont' be surprised if many people that see it don't believe it and think you are gay. you don't have to tell people to accept you, heterosexual people are all around and so are gay people. how many do you know you deal with in your daily life? possibly someone in your family is and you don't know it? also, being gay ISN'T a lifestyle, its a sex style, that is it.
I sincerely would like to hear a definition of "flaunting it." I hear people say that all the time, but no one really provides examples of what they mean. I think if you looked at yourself, you would realize that you do flaunt your heterosexuality all the time, but because it's so normal to you, and the straight people around you, you don't even realize it. Anytime you casually mention your boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife/in-laws, hold hands, have a picture on your desk at work, walk arm in arm, or give a kiss to your significant other in public, you are displaying for the world that you are straight. Yet, that seems to be the same activities that people consider "flaunting" when it is a gay person doing them. Why is it ok for you and not for them? That issue is the crux of all of this. If gay people were given the same rights, you wouldn't be hearing about it all the time. You might still be bothered by it, but I'm not crazy about looking at people with a ton of piercings, either, but I'm sure not going to deny them their rights. They're not hurting anyone else, afterall, and my opinion on the matter has no bearing.
Also, for those mentioning that lesbians are fine, but gay guys disgust them, obviously hypocritical. Again, what you personally do or do not approve of has no bearing on whether these individuals should be respected as fellow human beings and given the same rights as straight people. Not more or different, just equal.
To some people "Flaunting it" is a euphemism for being who you are.
If they approve of who you are (eg heterosexual) then no matter what you do is not flaunting it.
I know this is far-fetched, but that's what these people "think" of as hate...

This part of the world needs so much help. Mainly they need, education. If we start to education the parts of the world that live by archaic and draconian laws, and begin to expose to them to science, literature, cultures, art, and steer them away from religious zealotry, they will, in time, turn form their misguided ways and learn the truth about the way the world works. The fact is, until we eliminate ignorance, we are always going to have problem with ignorant people committing atrocities.
That community also needs to step up its protection of those that obviously need the extra protection. I don't know how to accomplish this, something needs to be done.

Roughly 5% of the population is gay, leaving 95% who are not. Gays have parades, demand special rights and laws, then whine when the other 95% reacts badly. Besides, this happened in South Africa. What do you expect?
UHHH no, Gays do not demand special rights or laws. Gays simply demand equal rights and protection from hate crimes, which isn't a special law, unless you refer to a kid being bullied and bullied until the bully beats hims to death, being deemed a hate crime, then no, they don't demand special laws.
Do you want to be afforded the same rights as every other person in this nation, or what ever nation you hail from? Would you deem it justifiable if your rights were infringed upon because you were catholic, or because you had blue eyes, or because you favored red-heads over blondes? Really, you are speaking about laws that were written by man, who claimed they were writing down God's laws. Can you prove to anyone that these are God's laws? This isn't biblical times. God's laws, written by man, were written as a way to control, govern , and prosper, and only for the elite few. Not to mention the fact that there was no notion of homosexuality during those times. Historical facts tell us that sexuality was a way of life, men slept with men, women with women, and it wasn't looked upon as immoral or unnatural, sex was sex to them during those times there was no concept of homosexuality. The terms used during those times, that people use today as their fuel for all the God Hates homosexuality, were speaking of the roles that men and women took on during those times. Chores, social constructs, government, etc....it had nothing to do with homosexuality, as they knew nothing of the concept.

You can't speak logically or with sympathy or empathy to people like this. People like those commenting have no hearts, no souls, and no sense of decency. As you so poetically put it, these people are truly neanderthals and living in ancient times. Society will eventually either begin to educate them or slowly weed them out of civilized society, forcing them to live lonely, dark , and desperate lives.

It doesn't matter what your personal opinions are when it comes to denying someone of their rights. No one says you have to condone what people do, none of us condone everything everyone else does, but a rational person realizes that just because we don't personally agree with something (that doesn't hurt anyone else) doesn't mean we can treat people unjustly and deny them their rights as human beings. You cannot dictate how people enjoy their bodies and what they do in private. There are probably a lot of things you do or I do that others don't like, but if our laws were based on that, there would be anarchy.
We have become so desensitized to this kinda stuff, people just accept this lavish lifestyle... and then get pissed off when you don't. Guess what, none of us have to accept your lifestyle or way of life of being a homosexual, get over yourselves gay and lesbians, nobody wants to hear it or cares.
You'd be surprised how many of us straight people do want to hear about their struggle and do care. You are right, you don't have to accept that their lifestyle choice is their lifestyle choice, and you don't have to accept that homosexuality isn't wrong, isn't a mental disease, and doesn't need to be fixed. This was a vile, violent, and heinous crime. It should be shocking to anyone to know that someone was mutilated in such a fashion. It is an outrageous atrocity. This kind of crime should shock your soul. What does it say about humanity when there are people who would commit such a crime? And what do all the comments here that blame the victim and not the perpetrators also say about humanity? And what God approves of mutilation and violent murder?
I sympathize with his family but when are these people going to get it through their heads that Africa does not accept the lifestyles. Western civilization seems to be the only ones that are accepting and mostly not by choice but by what the government says. If he would have not flaunted his life, he might still be alive.

well, for the most important one - being in the Miss Gay Pagaent - I don't see too many straight people strutting, looking ridculous in a parade, and acting out with over the top mannerisms.

Gay Pride Parades aren't for you or me. They're for gay people to celebrate their lives and families out in the open and the vast majority of gay people aren't flamboyant or ridiculous any more than straight people. They are just living their lives openly like every straight person does everyday.

Western civilization accepts homosexuality?
Judging by most of these comments, you could have fooled me.
Now they are attempting to force people who question or oppose them into the closet they once inhabited. And they are succeeding, however, that has nothing to do with the fact that not one person can seriously claim that the digestive tract was evolved for the purpose of sexual gratification.
They are free to chose their own lifestyle and also to suffer the health issues that will arise as a result of that choice, ... even if it's not a choice. Either way, natural or not, there will be a price to pay for it, regardless of how humanity views this behavior.
Truly wish them all the best with that.
