Luka Magnotta, suspected dismemberment killer, pleads not guilty in Montreal

Luka Magnotta, the Canadian porn actor suspected of killing and dismembering another man, made his first appearance in a Montreal courthouse today. CBC's Peter Akman reports.

Luka Magnotta, a Canadian porn actor accused of killing and dismembering his 33-year-old Chinese lover in Montreal, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to multiple charges, including first-degree murder.

Magnotta was arraigned a day after he arrived in Canada, touching down at Quebec’s Mirabel Airport aboard a military jet. He was extradited from Germany.

Magnotta appeared via teleconference at the Montreal courthouse Tuesday afternoon, the CBC reported.

Magnotta, 29, was arrested at an Internet cafe in Berlin on June 4 after a 10-day manhunt.

Magnotta, born Eric Newman, was a porn actor and escort who reportedly has at least 70 Facebook pages, including some with violent language about killing lovers.

Canadian authorities allege that he filmed the murder and dismemberment of Lin Jun, a Concordia University student, in late May; posted the footage on a website dedicated to gore; and then mailed Lin’s hands and feet to political parties in Ottawa and schools in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Lin’s torso was found in a suitcase in the alley of Magnotta’s apartment building. His head has not been recovered.

Police believe that after mailing Lin’s body parts, Magnotta flew to Paris, where he partied for several days before heading to Germany. When authorities found him at the Internet café in Berlin, he was reading about himself, according to media reports.

NBC News and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Isn't there a video the goof-ball made on-line showing him in action? Not guilty? Strange...

Not guilty because of being clinically insane.... is my guess.

The man is obviously completely insane. But... why would you video tape your crime, post it on the internet, send the evidence to various governmental agencies ...and then plead not guilty.

Well, his time for committing evil acts is at an end. He'll spend the reset of his natural life under some form of incarceration, while we'll all wonder why ...until the next weird, crazy crime occurs.

To be fair, those claims are "alleged" - there's no proof he mailed them to anyone, or posted anything (as is my understanding). Maybe that's why the "non guilty"? Who knows. He sounds like a "winner" for sure. CRAZY!!

mt-2801141 : You are right that legally speaking the acts are ''alleged'' but:
Video of the killing is taped in his apartment, and we can really guess it is him that stabs.
Video of Magnotta dropping the suitcase containing the trunk to the garbage.
His apartment loaded with victims blood and finger prints.
Yet to be revealed is to see DNA (he sodomized the corpse) and fingerprints on the body parts.

In my opinion his lawyer will evoke insanity, but it will be a heck of a hard task to claim Magnotta didn't do it.

I'm Montreal, not that far actually from where it all happened, and I have several friends in MTL's Chinese community and the Concordia University network. This story is a real horror story. I'm what you guys would call a Liberal, yet in this case I really think the Frying Chair would be the best thing. However, despite what is said about Canadian jail's being a heaven compared to U.S's prisons, it a matter of time before inmates organize a private party for him and I really wouldn't like to be the guest of honor of the event.

So this guy, the canadian gay pornstar, who apparently craves sex with males beyond sanity, either way, gets incracerated for life where he gets to enjoy all the male sex he can get? For life? Really? Canada is going to pay to support his fantasies? lol

Why does every article about this guy have to mention that he is a gay porn star? Would they say, Canadian convenience store worker, or Canadian hair dresser? Is it that they are surprised that Canada has porn, or gay people, or gay people who make porn?

When reporters are not qualified for the task at hand and aren't proficient in the English language, they'll resort to sensationalized headings to capture their audience.

Too bad he didn't go to hell in a hail of bullets in Germany and now will cost us hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees and legal stunts......but then again, maybe he'll fall victim to prison justice the way Jeffrey Dahmer got justice.

A liberal state like Canada or Norway will not serve justice no matter how heinous the crime may be. I would bet that there are some people in Canada that would like to take him on a one way camping trip, but that would be "Uncivilized". It is better to show mercy to those that do not know mercy or have a conscious according to some. When and if someone is capable of imagining the terror that the victims of these types of crimes suffer, then maybe justice can be served. A predator will always be a predator much like the black bear was killed for eating the killer in Canada a few weeks ago. He tasted human flesh and was killed in case he liked the taste and wanted some more. The same philosophy should apply to these predators, mass killers, and pedophiles. Their taste for humans is evidence enough to justify extermination.
