We can argue weather or not they died in vain, but the fact remains the same, they did die for their country and communism that they died to defeat is not nearly a threat to us as it was back then. None of our soldiers want to die, but that risk is part of the job we all signed up to do. Just look at how many people volunteer for a second and third tour in theater.

The Taliban are pretty much worthless as soldiers only being able to inflict casualties from ambush and even then needing overwhelming numbers.
