Suspected explosives seized at nuclear plant in Sweden

STOCKHOLM -- The threat level was raised at all of Sweden's nuclear sites after security personnel found suspected explosives during a routine vehicle search at a nuclear power station on Wednesday, according to reports.

"In the afternoon, a suspected explosive was discovered in a truck on its way in to Ringhals' operating facility," the plant's operator Vattenfall said in a statement. "A sample of the material was sent during the evening to the Swedish National Laboratory of Forensic Science for analysis."

The Local reported cited an official as saying the material had been placed near a fire extinguisher "under the first step onto the truck." It was said to be the size of a "small fist," according to The Local.

"The assessment is that the situation is under control," police spokesman Lars Grimbeck told MarketWatch.

Ringhals' four reactors, on the southwest coast of Sweden near the city of Gothenburg, produce nearly 20 percent of the country's electricity.

State-owned Vattenfall has a 70 percent stake in the plant and Germany's owns nearly 30 percent.

Reuters contributed to this report.

Neither orange, apple, pear, onion, potato nor artichoke; but a fist - a small fist.

Yes, a fist. I guess that is the new metric measurement system that Europe has been so damn proud of fo all these years.

Of course they probably don't appreciate us calling one of our larger, wider beds "Queen" size either.

And "Suspected"??? I understand prudence, but investigate a little further before starting panics please.

Who is responsible for this reckless housekeeping act? Aliens of course! There was a UFO sighting in the area two days earlier.

A small fist ... holding an apple.

Perhaps--lost in translation? Maybe the word was supposed to be a "handful"? Nevertheless, it was another stupid act of violence (fortunately defused.)

Another reason to develop wind and solar. If you blow up a wind plant it doesn't matter if wind is spread all over for thousands of years. You don't have to worry about the wind contaminating your food. Your wind won't wash up on the shore of a foreign nation and spoil their land.

That's a popular phrase in Kuwait.

Joking around about this possible devastating attack.i.e a nuclear plant that could contaminate millions of people as well as deaths is not a good idea. It`s important that the names or groups are published and the chips fall where they may.If there is a Muslim connection.it will be more fuel..and justifiably so ..to put under complete control and surveillance this religious group. ..We shall see!

"Suspected" Explosives? That should have been determined before it was reported. Did they think it was Plastics? That is easily detected, maybe it was a cushion to keep the Fire Extinguisher from damage due to it's location. If nothing else it was very poor "investigative" reporting. The biggest question: "Why Sweden".

Yeah, it's funny how a seemingly important article offers no details but if this were a celebrity siting of some sort, there'd be three pages concerning the history of said celebrity.

Who knows. If it was explosive probably some camel jockey put it there. Not sure how they hope to gain support by being inhumane monsters killing innocent people all over the world over some stupid religious bent that some how justifies being as horrible or worse than any one that you have a problem with. Its okay Christians are just as bad, they just dont have the poverty that forces them to use those extreme methods to make their point. They just hate every one equally and use their tax free donation money to influence politics while claiming some moral right to stay tax free even as they influence government. Cant seperate church from state if your church tries to influence the state so much. you should all be taxed or outlawed completely. Anti this and anti that as loving as you say jesus was you all sure hate a bunch. dont sound very loving to me, oh and nothing in your history shows any loving behaviour either. What with the whole torture murder and child molestation that seems to be church doctrine. Superstition and doing every thing you can to hold back any and all scientific advancements. Even as everything your dumb little book states to be true is picked apart by rational and intelligent people you still fight back and your only defnse is well it must be the devil and god works in mysterious ways. Yeah not much of an argument just makes you look even worse. Quit trying to force your moronic views on the rest of the world. If you really want to try and influence government with your christian views I say your christian churches should be taxed. If you want to benefit from seperation of church and state then you need to stay out of the matters of the state. if you want this to be a christian country with extremist christian views and turn us all into the hell hole of the middle east then you need to pay to have that right. Its ok you guys make a lot of noise but your church officials are well aware that your days are numbered. Popes and priests and bishops and such are dying out, most are very old and not being replaced as quickly. Your ideas are ancient and hate filled cutting out most of the people that live in the real world. We dont need inquisitions and book burnings any more, we need more intelligent people and every generation that comes along shows you that in the fact that less and less of you are around to rally the hate groups. Go way churchies your breed is dead. Believe in god but leave the rest of us alone, the rest of us are smart enough to see that not every word in that HUMAN written bible of yours is the word of god. Glad you are all dying out good bye scourge of humanity. Hello new age of reason and wisdom.

Actually WoWza there were 380 million Christians in Africa in 2000 and many more today. Most are desperately poor but the only time you hear about an attack by Christians is when they are responding to Muslim attacks. Trying to equate Christians with Muslims is like comparing sheep to lions. Poverty isn't an excuse if it was the billion plus Hindu's and Buddists would be doing the same as the Muslims.

Let's see, the explosive could blow the fire extinguisher, which could blow the fuel tanks next to them which could blow the cargo of explosive gas which could take down the control room which would...then after WWIII, the survivors fought each other for the poisonous but tasty vegetation which they found glowing at night.

For those of you screaming for more information. There is a link to an article in this one. It states that they "suspected explosives" were discovered by sniffer dogs. That it was found in a truck that does not leave the plant grounds and was moving into a secure area.
