Subscribe to RSSUpdated at 8:50 am ET: PESHAWAR, Pakistan -- A U.S. drone killed eight suspected Islamist militants in northwest Pakistan on Sunday, security officials said.
A drone missile struck a house in the Shawal Valley where militants were reported to be hiding in the North Waziristan tribal region near the Afghan border.
"Two missiles were fired on a house. Eight militants were killed," said a local intelligence official.
"The area is considered a stronghold of local and foreign militants, but it is not clear at the moment who were killed in the latest drone strike," said a security official in Miranshah, North Waziristan.
The Taliban in North Waziristan had banned an anti-polio immunization campaign in protest over U.S. drone strikes, which they claim are killing civilians.

You can keep going back and see the same thing year after year-- indiscriminate IED and suicide bombings kill more of their own people than any other source. You're crying foul on America when it is their own countrymen that are killing the civilians (by the way, an average of 10-15% of remaining civilian casualties each year are caused by pro-government Afghan forces-- meaning America and it's Nato allies are responsible for a fraction of the total civilian deaths in-country. Precision guided munitions are bitchin'.) So maybe you ought to research your opinion before slamming your country. I've posited the following question before:
What is worse? is it:
A) An entity that indiscriminately (and frequently deliberately) targets civilians and non-combatants with multi-directional explosive devices, beheadings and other slaughter in an attempt to coerce nations to their impudent demands, or
B) An entity that does everything in its power to mitigate non-combatant and civilian casualties, sparing no expense to ensure each strike against its enemies is as accurate as possible with the least amount of collateral damage (both to life and infrastructure), who provides food, medical and other aid to civilians and even to defeated combatants, or
C) An entity that watched the atrocities committed by A), even unto its own people inside of its own borders, and does nothing.

There are no real civilians in this place. You can see that the posters here are young. Do they even show the old clips oof WWII when cities were just carpet-bombed? Tokoyo was fire bombed and lost more civilian deaths than Hiroshima. Top Gun - The United States gives Pakistan billions in foreign aid to buy their cooperation. Yes, we could defeat Pakistan in an all out war. But as you may have noticed from the price tag of invading Iraq, these wars have a steep price tag. It is a question of spending billions to maintain an uneasy alliance with Pakistan, vs trillions to confront them in an open war.

Well, Adam44, let's consider the results over the past 11 years. The Taliban has been ousted from power in Afghanistan. Osama bin Laden is dead, along with a significant number of Islamic terrorists, some at the hands of the ISI. Except for the shooting spree by a lone gun man at Fort Hood 3 years ago, there have been no successful terrorist attacks on U.S. soil. There is a friendly if imperfect government in place in Kabul and we are about a year from disengaging from Afghanistan's internal security issues.
All of the above would have been far more difficult to accomplish without the cooperation of Pakistan.
So, considering the alternatives, I'd say it has worked out about as well as can be expected. You and others apparently expect Pakistan to react in perfect alignment with U.S. interests. That is unlikely to happen.
Pakistan is a nation with its own internal issues, aims and conflicts. It is in a constant state of cold war with India, and much like the CIA's use of the Mafia in Cuba back in the 1960s, it is not above using radical elements in its society when it suits their purpose, as they did in the Mumbai attacks of a couple of years back.
International affairs is a cynical and pragmatic business. If your ally is imperfect, you don't have a hissy fit, take your bat and ball and go home. You do not over react and turn them into an outright enemy. You use the situation to your best advantage. This is precisely what the U.S. has done with Pakistan, both under George W. Bush, and now, under Barack Obama.
I often wonder what manner of fairy-tale world "experts" in international relations, such as Top Gun and yourself, inhabit.

My response is more in regard to how we, the general average Joe not too interested in details but announcements from press releases, fail to have any idea of the much more convoluted and sensitive issues facing the region, as well as the higher likelyhood of Civil War sue to the many vastly different interest which have developed into the various powerbrokers for the different sects, tribes, and allegiances borne out for centuries, forged by continuous chaos and cemented as constant uncertainty.
It just very well may go back to Hell In A Handbasket for those that always are the fodder for the actual violence and inhumanity which has grasped this country against all comers regardless of mission. That would be the meek and easily targeted, woman and children most horridly.

I was referring as to how easy it is to make commentary about the righteousness of killing civilians in any country and excusing it as collateral damage. This includes Mullah Omar, Osama and many including Haqqani militant network leaders.
Despite the backstabbings, the US and allies pumped in huge economic and military aids into Pakistan.
Dump backstabbing Pakistan, the dirtiest swamp on earth.

Not only do I not "know that", I've not idea what that means. Who are the "Pakis and their supporters"? What is this "truth" to which you refer.
Same type of claims were made regarding the Catholics [take their instructions from Rome] in the first half of the last century, and about the Japanese ["alien people"] during WWII. Those claims were not true then, neither are your's today.
"Trying to be too smart", that is certainly something about which to be concerned. What facts and realities are they twisting? Why do we care? We are working with Pakistan's partial and imperfect cooperation to establish a stable and responsible government in Kabul, one which will not support terrorist attacks on the U.S.
Pakistan was established in 1947, partially by British mandate. It has been in existence for over 60 years, and not once in that time has its continued existence been in peril. In 1970, the Bangladesh War of independence did succeed, partially through the aid of India, in detaching East Pakistan from Pakistani control. But India did not attempt to annex either that newly formed nation, or the remaining Pakistan territories on its western border.
The U.S. was not deeply involved then, and Pakistan's existence has never been dependent on U.S. support. In other words, you have no idea of what you are speaking.
BTW: I'll ask again, since our unrestrained bombing of Indochina achieved no positive results in the 1970s, why do you wish to repeat this failed strategy?

Agree with you 100%. Lets send there several cops, preferably unarmed, to take them in for questioning. This way we will know for sure whether they are harmless volunteers of the Salvation Army who happened to be there by mistake, or real terrorists. This should work.

We need to finish these damn wars and get the heck out of other countries that hate us. We also need to quit paying money to them. It is illegal for companies to pay bribes to other countries to set up businesses there. It should be illegal for the United States to pay other countries as well. It amounts to bribes. Our elected official Queen Mr. President Obama just keeps paying. Those are tax dollars that we are borrowing and having to pay millions or billions of dollars just in interest. That money should be going to fix up the United States. Take that money and put it into the phucking Obamacare plan.
Either just flatten the terrorists entire strongholds including the civilians that are hiding them or get the hell out of those countries. We are not supposed to negotiate with terrorists. I would damn sure shoot any that ever came to my home.
As far as the immigration issues, make them apply legally through the proper channels. Give them 1 year to complete learning English and become real Americans denouncing their foreign citizenships or deport them on the spot. Make English the National Language of the United States. That is what the founding fathers of this country wanted. I did not say great country because of the atrocities being carried on by the communist like Congress, House of Representatives and the great Queen Mr. President Obama. They should all be removed from office, by a real vote of all the people. Not the stupid electorial college. The Supreme Court needs to be refreshed too. Passing the Obamacare act calling it a "tax" is one of the most screwed up laws they supported that shuold have been struck down. I plan on defending my rights under the "constitution" to my death. After Taliban executed a bunch of Pakistan soldiers a few days ago, Pakistan does not seem to be angry about US drone attack anymore.

Iran claims they now have our drone technology, so let's just paint Iranian markings on the drones in case one is shot down and tell the Pakis that Iran is flying them now, not the US.

And of course Obama once again praises Bush from whom he inherited this intelligence and weapons system in place when he arrived in the White House - just as he surely praised him when Osama bin Laden was killed. Of course he did so or he would be the epitome of hypocrite, as he claims inheritance of the economic system that failed. I don't remember his giving Bush his due for the OBL kill but I am sure he diid - as how could he not when he has so often blamed him for the myriad of failures these past three yesars? And yes you sense sarcasm here.

There are no "trials" in war. You target the enemy and kill him.
It's the same trial they provide when they murder innocent women and children and civilians. It's the same trial given the US on 9/11.
Unlike the terrorists, we don't target women and children. There was the one soldier in Afghanistan who left base to kill men/women/children and he is going to be tried for murder. When a terrorist kills women and children he is considered a hero/martyr. THAT'S the difference, weirish.
Why just one house in one little village when the whole country is terrorist? I'd like to see the drones fitted with containers filled with pork-oil that when released, they would explode a couple of hundred feet above the ground in order to spray the pork-oil over the maximum surface area. It would be good to bomb Pakistan back to the stone-age, but it's already there. The only thing left is to wrap them in pork-oil and let allah cleanse them in preparation to meet their 72 virgins.
