Whoever wrote this article is not very well informed. To say that Israel is believed to be the only nation in the Middle East to have nuclear weapons is absurd, that is unless you do not consider Pakistan to be in the Middle East!!! Yes, Israel, is the only nation in their general area that is believed to have nuclear weapons, but I do not see that as a bad thing. In fact, with the current instability in Pakistan, I think it is only a matter of time before the US will need to go in and secure Pakistan's nukes to keep them from falling into terrorist hands. As for the situation between Egypt and Israel, a lot depends on whether or not the Muslim Brotherhood maintains control of Egypt's parliament. The MB has stated openly that one of their planned actions is to abrogate the peace treaty with Israel. Since the parliament would have the power to do this regardless of what Morsi wants or does not want, I would say that any assurances that Hillary is giving the Israelis is a little premature. I would guess that within a year to 18 months the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel will be nothing but a memory. Unless the Egyptian military declares martial law, the MB will have total control over Egypt within a year. In addition, there has been almost a complete breakdown in the rule of law in the Sinai which presents serious border security issues for Israel and will also allow for the increased flow of weapons and other banned materials into Gaza. Unless something is done quickly, Hamas will use the lack of stability in the Sinai as an opportunity to both bring more weapons into Gaza and to leave Gaza and launch attacks against Israel through the border with Egypt. Morsi needs to act quickly to restore order in the Sinai or there may be some severe consequences.
