Two more Syrian generals defect, flee to Turkey overnight

ISTANBUL, Turkey - Two Syrian brigadier-generals fled to Turkey overnight, part of a group of about 10 people that included colonels and other military officers, a Turkish official told Reuters on Saturday.

The latest defections would bring the number of Syrian generals taking refuge in Turkey to 24.

A 16-month uprising in Syria has unleashed a refugee crisis in Turkey and its other neighbors. More than 43,000 Syrian refugees are registered as living in Turkey.

Meanwhile, U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said on Saturday that he is sending an envoy to Syria to assess the situation as Syrian government forces and rebels battle for control of the country.

"I am sending my Undersecretary General for Peacekeeping Operations (Hervé Ladsous) to Syria to assess the situation as well as the top U.N. military advisor to lead UNSMIS (mission) in this critical phase," Ban said after meeting top Croatian officials in the Adriatic resort of Brijuni.

UN extends Syria observer mission as fighting continues

Ban's remarks came a day after the U.N. Security Council approved a 30-day extension for an unarmed observer mission, the only international military mission on the ground, and after Russia and China vetoed a resolution to impose further sanctions on the government of Syrian president Bashar Assad.

Those are the coward generals who lost their balls. I'm sure they also committed crimes, but they do not want to be held responsible for it. So maybe this is the time to jump ship so they will not be held accountable for their crimes & then say that they sided with the rebels. They are called general no balls.

These "defectors" are simply rats leaving a sinking ship. If Assad were winning the Syria War they'd be right there by his side, killing civilians and rebels just as fast as they could do it.

Now we wait for the purging (extermination) of all non-muslims in the country.

Kudos to the UN, Russia and China, for your lack of action. What is the death toll? Over 17,000 men women and children?

What the rebels should do is to go on TV and tell the people of Syria
that any solders and Generals that do NOT defect to the rebels or some
where else will be tried as war criminals when the rebels take over.

When will the smaller countries attacked by the evil empire, figure out the only way to beat back the empire that is trampling their countries, is to attack the oil pipelines. why fight the CIA backed guerrillas, just be rebels, like in star wars, and hit the evil empire where it hurts, by punching holes in the pipelines. hello, how hard is that to figure out. The american rebels did not take king george and his patsies on head to head, they bushwacked them. how hard is that. otherwise america will continue to fight wars for Israel and the zionist jews. (not jews, zionist jews)

The end is near for the current regime. Whatever replaces it will, in all likelihood, be worse. Much like in Egypt.

comment 1.15 must be an Assaid supporter. Its to be expected that the cruel murderious Chinese who brutalize Tibet won't save Syria citizens. Russia is the arm pit of the world and china must remone Assaid and get out of Tibet. The President of Syria is a war criminal and anyone who says otherwise is a supporter.

These events are further proof of the wisdom of the Founding Fathers and the 2nd Amendment. The best antidote against tyranny is a well armed populace. In today's world and here in the U.S. the drumbeat to disarm citizens continues. The steady movement to the Big Brother government is undeniable. Most compelling is the apparently large sector of this country that actually wants a more and more powerful central government. Apparently this is viewed as risk free.

Imposition of martial law, suspension of the Bill of Rights and cancellation of the Constitution are quite real possibilities. The only problem for current and future potential despots is the small problem of a hundred million Americans who owns many hundreds of millions of firearms (if not billions) and have billions of rounds of ammunition. That is a thorny problem for pretenders to the throne.

Right about now, the Russian Foreign Office must be thinking "how do we squeeze out of this mess without looking like complete a$$holes" I understand their reluctance, especially after the NATO campaign against Lybia was more than they thought was what they voted for, but, on the other hand, Assad isn't really winning this as they expected and he's losing it faster than anyone could have anticipated. Maybe it's time to cut a deal that let's them keep their only military outpost in that region. Then again, let's not. Both China and Russia backed the wrong horse and the people in the Middle East have long memories (like in centuries) and don't forgive easily. China too should have hedged it's bet's. Starting a dozen small incidents around the Pacific rim, then backing Assad is the policy of nitwits like Chevez, not China. They have hundreds of people who do nothing but think these decisions through and they don't often make mistakes on this level.

Did someone say something about Sinking Ships of State and Big Rats leaving? Has anyone read the novel, "The Fall of the Third Reich"?; concentrating on what happened to the Generals who "Jumped Ship" at the Nurnberg Trials?

To all the conspiracy nuts. We had nothing to do with any uprisings. the syrians are doing this themselves. the only thing we the USA is against is the genocide and killing of innocent men, women and children. there is no conspiracy. why is it some people have so much discord for this country..... Man up and move over there and make some room for the good syrians to come here, otherwise dont spout off about how bad america is. AMERICA!!!! LIKE IT OR LEAVE. BETTER YET...PROVE WHAT YOU SAY. Ohh yea we never landed on the moon, Kennedy had a 16th sniper, and roswell did happen...hehe

The Generals and other military members are fleeing Syria in increasingly large numbers. Do they flee with all family members? Isn't ASSad retaliating against those family members left behind? Anyone? Anyone?

Assad's sister has been living in exhile in the US from this Monster for several years. Assad has threatened to kill her daughter if she returns. He has also stolen all of her money. This is the kind of man the Russians absolutely love.

Isnt that wonderful...the UN is going go and "Observe" some more! What a useless organization. I guess the site of killing turns them on and since they are too cowardly to actualy fight them selves, they will "observe". Assad is a killer and has been for years. He has to go and if Russia wants to support this @!$%#, then when and or if we get a real president in the White House, they will be at war with us and half the World.

Just how many Generals does it take????

Syria has a POP. of 225,7750 and can not find totla number of Generals in Syria but 24 have defected as of 22 July 2012.

Turkey has a POP of 787,855,480 and a total of 376 Generals (Some of whom are in Jail).

The USA has a POP of 312.8 Million with 498 Generals (All Branches including Nat. Guard and Reserve)

Do the math here per POP and per active military (80% of Turkish Army is mandatory 6 month or 1 year depending on education).

SO the Question is Just how many Generals does it take to command a military per troop?

If Assad were to actually defeat the rebels in Syria, he would have a hard time trying to figure out first, how many people within Syria itself he needs to kill to prevent his regime from being threatened internally again and second, which country (Israel, Turkey, Jordan, Saudi Arabia) or entity (the Palestinians) to take his "revenge" against first for either giving support to his enemies, not supporting his regime when he needs them (i.e. the various Palestinian terror groups H.Q.'ed in Damascus) or just for being one of his neighbors (Israel).

In any case, the civilized world is in for some challenges in the very near future. A big thankyou goes to the Soviets (excuse me!----I mean the Russians!), China, North Korea, Iran and Hezbollahstan (formerly Lebanon) for making all of this possible!
