BEIJING - China has blasted a State Department report that criticized its controls on religion, saying Thursday that the document was prejudiced and an attempt to meddle in domestic affairs.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry's condemnation of the International Religious Freedom Report released this week was predictable -- and the latest reminder of how human rights issues remain a chronic irritant between Washington and Beijing.
The annual report issued Monday found a "marked deterioration" in state respect for religious freedom in China in 2011, and cited tighter restrictions on religion, especially in Tibetan Buddhist monasteries and nunneries.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei adamantly disagreed.
"Chinese people of every ethnicity enjoy full freedom of religion and faith," Hong said in comments issued on the ministry's website.
"The U.S. side should abandon its prejudices," he said.
"Stop exploiting religious issues to meddle in China's internal affairs, and don't do things that harm Sino-American relations and mutual trust and cooperation," he added.
A stressed relationship
Tension between China and the United States spans issues such as the U.S. trade deficit, American arms sales to Taiwan, and mutual wariness over regional intentions and military plans.

U.S. criticism in the report included a claim that "official interference in the practice of these religious traditions exacerbated grievances and contributed to at least 12 self-immolations by Tibetans in 2011."

Since March 2011, there have been more than 40 self-immolations by Tibetans, including Buddhist monks and nuns, reflecting anger over Chinese controls.
Chinese defend swimmer's gold, knock Western 'bias'
The Chinese government faces challenges by Buddhist Tibetans, who revere the Dalai Lama and support Tibetan independence; members of the Islamic Uighur minority in northwest Xinjiang Province who protest Chinese rule; the outlawed Falun Gong spiritual sect, which authorities accuse of practicing a dangerous cult in the guise of promoting health exercises; and the many underground house churches and religious believers, including Catholics who recognize the authority of the Vatican, who are not part of the officially-sanctioned churches.

The rift between Beijing and the Vatican was dramatized again last month when a Shanghai bishop, ordained with the Vatican's approval, was taken away by officials after he declared he was quitting the Communist-led Patriotic Catholic Association, according to reports.
After a meeting on human rights in late July, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Michael Posner said Beijing was moving in the wrong direction on human rights.

Shame that the fact that all of the US manufacturing jobs have gone to China isn't a "chronic irritant" as it should be.
Let's be sure to focus on soft topics. We wouldn't want to take them on for anything that had real teeth or might upset Big Business.
I'm not sure you're cleared for that line of thinking, citizen. We're going to be sending the neural corrections team over for an adjustment- or, you could watch Fox for an afternoon. Your choice.
I'm just glad it wasn't Romney making an azz of himself again, It would be the only news story for a month...
Hummmmmmmmm .... The United States "Meddle" in other peoples "affairs?" .... LOL
Who would ever think that?
Yes USA... don't meddle and keep buying stuff made by China that ruins your economy... you hear that, traitors in Washington DC?
We should not be meddling with China and they should not meddle with the United Sates. We are seperate countries with different religions and ideals. There is nothing wrong with that. We should respect China as they respect us.
I know there are all sorts of things going on with business and government, etc., but we do need to protect ourselves and our partners like Japan, the UK, etc. We should be working on building our country back up to the top standards and get total cyber-security in place for information being transmitted out of country. Take care of our own back yard before we start telling others how to do theirs!
In my opinion.
I disagree completely, Numb3r. I think international affairs require MORE meddling, not less. Just as small-scale communities are enriched by a mix of opinions, cultures, and backgrounds and politics are enriched by debate and a mix of opinions to find new ideas, so does the international community benefit from frank and provocative discussion of policy and law. The worst thing that can happen in almost any environment is the dominance of one group or school of thought that stamps out all others, and the same is definitely true of governments. I don't think the United States would make so many mistakes if we took international opinion more seriously rather than assuming we have it right because we're the strongest or smartest or richest. China needs to hear when it does wrong, and so do we.
I guess you haven't had some bad arse sweaty thug dressed like Johnny Cash (all black) and wearing a 'beanie' (sans propeller) with a jillion BTU's of killing power (Provided by the Great Satan, of course) in your back yard giving you 20 minutes to 'Leave the land his G-d gave to him in a dream' and showing you a 3,000 year old expired lease that he carries in the glove compartment of his US 'donated' D9R Caterpillar bulldozer as proof, huh Pilgrim?
What the hell are you babbling about? The paragraph above is a jumble of words that make no sense whatsoever.
uhhhh.......... what is the chinese definition of "full" again
The dope Chinese government doesn't want meddling, all while it constantly launches a cyberwar against the US.
Efff UUU China.
So we in the United States are the be-all and end-all of wisdom and respect for others... especially "alien corn"? Frankly, (and I am a born-again boycotter of "Made in China" labels on consumer goods here), it is actually not our cotton-pickin' business to dictate to any other culture different from our own. We believe in freedom of speech, religion, and national origin. So look to ourselves. If other countries handle survival differently from the way we do, honor that. If we don't we demolish our own ideology.
If our Administration wants to be effective, instead of mouthing off with silly opinions in the UN and rabid news releases against China, they should do what we are empowered to do here, and ONLY empowered to do, and that is to outlaw not just Outsourcing, but goods allowed to creep into our economy with shoddy workmanship from alien countries (and who can blame the workers over there... but that is their business, not ours!)... these products should NOT be imported.
And they certainly should not be invited with our own economy stagnant via inflationary doldrums.
With our unemployment of American citizens (repeat the word citizens) at an all-time high, we are insane to import lousy workmanship from elsewhere. An American worker can do the job of ten "slaves" in Communist China, and do it better... and quality is our ability so quality should be our goal.
Anyone with a modicum of education over here knows that quality lasts and serves us whereas cheap and shoddy doesn't, and cheap and shoddy becomes far most costly to us in the not so long run.
Wake up, Wal-Mart et al. Buy from your fellow Americans. It goes beyond patriotism. It goes to smarts by you, quality for your customers, economy for good work, and everyone (every American citizen that is) happier and more content.
We Americans do not have any right whatsoever to take over the globe, nor, frankly, do we have the ability thank goodness... Another's culture is their choice. Unless, of course, they attack us. Then we defend ourselves, and btw, "presidential mandate," to break our own Constitutional laws is NOT the answer. The law allows defense of our homeland, not attacking another country which has not attacked us. Their internal problems are theirs to solve, not for us to think we should interfere,
Other cultures, other legacies (in China's case far more ancient than ours) are none of our business. Other cultures, folks. What makes ours so emulatory from within our boundaries? Any good schoolmarm of ours should be able to teach us the state of our union.
And the state of our union is first priority for all our citizens, including Naturalized folks from a different culture who worked hard to adopt ours.
We fail by our own by attempted adoption of others, other countries, other people, who really don't want to be adopted.
Some of yall just have the Right wing definitions incorrect.
Let me help you out.
A communist totalitarian government that doesn't make money is bad. (example Cuba)
A communist totalitarian government that does make money is good. (China) Their really Capitalists.
The right attitude is that, out of the goodness of hearts we are allowing for their mass exploitation, via shipped out US manufacturing jobs. And so the profit margin can raise exponentially.
They , the right, could only wish for the same situation here. But they are working on that.
We are becoming a clone of China. Not the reverse.
Thanks Kaptain...and I agree with you!~ I've traveled to China many, many times and each time I've noted this: The Chinese treasure children, they treasure education, they revere parents and ancestors, they are frugal and careful financially, they are focused on health and eating and living in a healthy manner, and lots more of course, not the least is in being polite, and having a great respect for thier government and thier nation. As to religious freedom, of course they have no problems with people wo worship in any religion they choose. Yes, they are correct, the USA has no reason, nor right to meddle in China's business. One and all might take note of this: In the period of time since the dealth of Mao ( 1977) China emerged from a closed agrarian nation to become 2Nd only to the USA in commerce and status in the world. Their infrastructure would shame nearly any country in the world, including our USA. And lastly we should note this one item: China has not been attacked by the muslim terrorists as have nearly all of us, and the reason is even the cowardly muslims know that if they attack China the retribution will be so fast and so severe that they would forever regret their actions. Learn and listen, because in less than20 years China will surpass the USA in domestic production and will also be an ally to the inevitable war that is coming against islam and that culture of killing and brutality.
China owns us now. Respect them!
I better go ahead and order Rosetta Stone in Chinese.
If we don't meddle in other country's business it makes it a lot harder to justify spending trillions on the military industrial complex who in turn funnel millions if not billions back in the form of campaign contributions. 3000 Abrams tanks sitting in the California desert in need of "upgrades". Osprey tilt rotor aircraft that have been responsible for killing more US troops than enemy troops. Fourteen 6 billion dollar aircraft carriers that no other country has even one of. 50K troops occupying/protecting a country that we defeated in 1945. Hundreds of ships being stored in ports around the US in the "reserve fleet". Some of those ships last saw duty in WWII and Korea. Advanced fighter aircraft that have to be grounded because no one can figure out why the pilots black out in them. Meddling is sure expensive.
So be it..China can handle their own affairs, Just stay out of U.N. affairs. that goes for Russia also.
Beijing is moving in the wrong direction? Seems like Beijing has their act together very well when it comes to dealing with the Muslims and other bogus religious nuts..
Jack, you nailed it. Very well put regarding China and the Chinese.
I live in China; I work here. I am educated and even amazed on almost a daily basis by the people here. Americans could learn a lot from the culture.
And I must say I love the children in China! They are beautiful and very bright. It's an inspiration to see them. I wish I could say that about the typical American child.
Shame China has to be so thin-skinned. So we published a report critical of one of their policies. What do they care? It's not like we're advocating overthrowing their govt because of it. Stop being such a crybaby, China!
It's really none of our F'in business what other countries do or say. It's time to stop policing the world and acting like a over zealous school principle. How about concerning ourselves with internal country affairs like job creation rather than how many Chinese go to church on Sunday.
IXL a statement is hardly policing. Policing would mean boots on the ground or sanctions etc... Our internal economy is tightly related to China as a lot of manufacturing is coducted there for American products.
Concerning ourselves with our economy should start with heavy tax burdens for each job that is relocated overseas and tax breaks for bringing them back or keeping them.
Adam, you are 100% correct! The problem is that China maintains "Most favored" status as a trading partner. This should never have happened as long as they continue to crush their own people's freedoms and continue to prop up their currency to OUR detriment... They also keep a VERY UNEVEN trade deficit which the US refuses to correct. China is becoming VERY DANGEROUS and needs to be reined in. What we as AMERICANS can and MUST do is to STOP BUYING ANYTHING MADE IN CHINA!!!! If EVERY American stopped buying products made in China their economy would collapse and they would go back to being a third world country instead of the next SUPER POWER... IF the entire European Union also agreed to boycot products made in China we would have them on the ropes... The Chinese government (Communist) can NOT sustain any kind of economy without the rest of the world buying their JUNK...
It is SAD that Americans would rather spend $150 on a computer made in China then to spend $175 for one made here in America... Most all economists agree that most, not all, products made here in America are made better and produced at a comparable price to those made in China... So the old argument about cheaper prices is no longer true and Americans should buy "Made in America" products... Yes, before you go off on a rant, there are products that ARE much cheaper made in China, but over all we produce a better product at a comparable price and getting America back to work should be priority number one!! Come on America WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE... We are fast becoming a second rate country bowing to Rusia and China...
That's all I have to say on that subject...
Adam, policing can be called meddling, sticking your nose where it does not belong, or just being a pain in the @ss. We are not talking about invading China over this but why should the US even start this crap in the first place? I could care less about Chinese religion.
The Stop buying everything from China patriotic rally is a bunch of BS because you can't do it today. Get an education and work on being a leader in technology. Oh sorry, they are winning there too. Wake up and stop being complacent.........
So why should we give China the most privileged nation trade status? so it can ruin our economy with huge trade imbalance? Only the crooks in Washington could do such a thing. They all sold out to international capital holders long time ago. "Free trade" is a total SCAM!
We also need to quit selling property and land to countries that do not let us purchase the same there. This is one of those do as they do, scenes. If we had the same immigration rules that Mexico has, there would be very few hispanics here illegally and there would never be any way for them to purchase land, homes, businesses, or run for office without obtaining legal citizenship.
We just need to treat others like they treat us! That would take care of a lot of problems in my opinion!
What economy?
The US economy just builds more and more sophisticated military equipment and weapons to kill human beings with. Much like the Jewish cut-throats of Israel who BTW provide the enemies to 'try' them on.
Zeig heil dude.
@Seven - the main reason it is so hard to buy Made in America products are the policies of buyers for Walmart, Lowes, Home depo and all the other large merchandisers which effectively TAKE AWAY your choice to buy American made goods. A pair of US made socks retails for the same amount as a pair of Chinese socks, but the store makes 3 times more money selling Chinese socks. so guess what... they simply do not carry American made socks. Free trade my rear end... free trade is ONLY GOOD FOR TRADERS - not consumers or producers.
The Chinese view on the practice of religion is correct. One wishes to indulge oneself in religion, let one do so in the privacy of His/Her abode. If It's real, then one doesn't need to strew it about. If It isn't, there's enough bullsh^t about. To do so does nothing but create contentions. Keep your religion in the only place appropriate to such; in your mind! The rest of the world would be much better off standing on this premise.
To AZcowboy,,, The name of your town is rather significant, isn't it. Why don't you go back to the Middle East where (except for Israel, of course... and oddly, perhaps even them as they are the only democratic culture there and might, the Lord forbid, give you asylum)... the rest, of course would welcome you with open arms.. their arms, though, can be lethal.
Anti-Semitism, Anti-Islam, Anti-Catholics, Anti-Presbyterians or Methodists or Baptists... all of these kinds of "Anti's" are a sickness which not only spew a limited mentality but, bottom line, advertise the primal fear of personal inferiority.
The Arrogance of Ignorance invites a stony tomb in this country.
BigPoppa, U.S. has made several attempts; has had several high-level diplomacy missions to China in an attempt to get them to stop underselling their currency. It's one of the many thing's that has strained our relations with them. I am with you on the buy everything american made; but unfortunately it has to start with the bigger businesses. Like Adam says; tax outsourcing and give incentives to bring them back. And unless China can prove it's ready to handle world-wide responsibility such as global trade and global relations; we should kick them out of the WTO and UN. They're more useless than Russia in the UN; replace them with the Korea's I bet lil Kim would be more useful then China hahaha.
As far as 'meddling' goes I would say its more 'criticizing' then meddling. We will always criticize your pathetic attempt of providing 'full freedoms' on any level because your lame regime will not ever be willing to budge your stubborn policies and ways. It's going to take the millions of citizens tearing your limbs off one at a time before we actually see the possibility of 'full freedoms' in China. Until then though, if China's not willing to take the world seriously... I don't see why anyone is allowing them to have such a high stature on the global prospective.
Hate that $hit bag country
What a terrible thing to say. Shame on you.
That's the right on man you said it all. China's policy on religion makes more sense than my own country's policies of unchecked religious freedom.
They generally do not have the repeated problem of violence we do with cultists like Jim Jones, David Koresh, Heaven's gate cult, Mountain Meadows Massacre of the Mormons, because while you CAN worship as a Christian in China, you have to worship in affiliation with approved worship centers that the government has checked out.
This sound, logical policy keeps cultists from starting anti-government and murderous cults like the ones Jim Jones and Joseph Smith started.
China's policy protects its own citizens from harm. We do not protect ours. We wait until after someone like David Koresh has started his own cult to deal with problems, until it becomes an event so violent it makes national headlines.
We require doctors and lawyers to obtain certificates that say they are providing a standard of care that is equal to others in their field.
Why not have the same safety checks that China provides its citizens in regards to religion? So some nut isn't running around stockpiling fire arms and molesting children in the name of Jesus Christ like Koresh was doing. Worshipping in his basement staring his own non-standard philosophy.
Sorry they make you feel inferior. I mean its not like you aren't, but I still pity you.
So what I'm getting from you, Goldfish, is that you apparently trust the government, which can't balance a budget, put out a sensible tax code, or properly persecute a war with more money than all other militaries combined, to judge what is an "acceptable" religion and what isn't.
Keeping in mind that all governments have corrupt people in them, and often give out positions for personal favors or to secure power for political reasons. And they're subject to populism, often over-reacting to big media stories that are otherwise irrelevant. And you would sanction them to check out your church and decide if it's good enough for worship? How could someone possibly judge that without a tremendous bias? It's a really short leap from there to "approved" political parties. Do you have a political idea that doesn't fit within the government-approved guidelines? Can't have that; throw it out or your party gets shut down and all your information is censored.
Freedom of speech, media and ideas, including religion, is the most important human right there is. There's nothing more dangerous than curtailing it.
Nothing more dangerous than curtailing religion?? I believe you have that backwards - the very existence of religion has proven to be exceedingly dangerous for centuries!
You may hate it, maint, but you helped make it what it is today - check the labels on your clothes, the plactic products in your home, your kitchen gadgets, where your shoes were made. Will your hatred stop you from buying their products and exploiting their cheap labor???
Nvpat, I don't totally disagree with you, but that's something that can't be helped. People just happen to like it, and we can't change that.
However, establishing a pluralistic society which allows ALL religions openly promotes tolerance and peace (though you wouldn't know it from some of the vitriol you see against Islam around here). So the choice isn't "free religion, controlled religion, or no religion". No religion isn't an option for any society on Earth (yet). So between free or controlled, which do we choose?
China has absolutely no qualms about criticizing other countries on the same subjects -- just like they have no reason not to pirate our music, our cars, our high tech and our way of life -- because we literally cannot do anything about their corrupt and crooked way of doing business. Unfortunately, if all Chinese goods were suddenly to disappear from America, WalMart, Ace Hardware, Sears, Sam's Club, Costco and, Home Depot and Lowe's would go out of business. That doesn't even include the cheap kid's toys they make out of radioactive Japanese waste.
China is free to criticize the dire straits the native Americans, Blacks and Hispanics are in the US. Those who live in glass houses should not cast stones.
So China doesn't let religious zealots interfere with their laws and inner workings, I fail to see the problem. Maybe the US should take a page from their book and stop trying to appease every self-righteous jerk with a bible in hand.
That's the right on man, you said it all. Freedom of religion wasn't meant to provide every zealot with a platform to harm his fellow man like Koresh.
David Koresh, Jim Jones, Warren Jeffs, and other violent cultists in this nation of UNCHECKED religious freedom were BULLIES. And so is the gov't that allows them to proliferate unchecked until the situation results in the death of American citizens.
Dear God (no pun intended), UNCHECKED religous freedom? That sounds horri-wait, no. That's not right. What's that other word? That means the opposite of horrifying? Right, satisfactory.
The damage caused by those cultists is nothing compared to the real problems in America with drugs, poor laws, an inefficient public sector, and the opportunity costs as a result of poverty and poor education. The damage caused by an effort to curtail religion would do far more damage than any of those cultists did.
The Chinese Communists who rule China ARE BULLIES. Because they are successful world players, both financially and politically, they forget that because NO ONE can challenge them at home (kind of like a husband who terrorizes his wife and children), they think NO ONE can challenge out in public (international relations). Too bad their so thinned skinned BECAUSE the criticism is NOT going to stop: Get the HELL out of Tibel. QUIT arresting people for their views, STOP contolling what people can look up on the internet. You MAY be able to keep your wife and kids in line with your domineering and threatening scare tactics, but Joe down the street doesn't give too hoots about your implied or real threats. Implied: Who cares. Real: OK, go for it and see what happens.
Sounds just like our Gov.
Bullies?!! After the Great Satan has murdered 3.9m innocents in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Then another 1.4m in Iraq and now hitting the 300,000 mark in AF/PAK, Somalia, Yemen and a few places in Africa (Libya) and now Syria and Iran) that are only known to God. Hey 'boy' you better go back and finish your GED on world histroy - or go fly a Tibetian kite.
Get out of Tibet?!!! How 'bout get out of AF/PAK, Somalia, Yemen, Egypt, Sudan, Liberia, Honduras, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, Okinawa, Japan, South Korea (everyone of these countries has asked the Great Satan to 'Get the FUGG OUT!!! (And a few dozen more countries currently 'infected' by the United Snakes (US/IsraHELL/NATO)
American Business created China...
No - American consumers did.
They go hand in hand
thats a chicken vs egg situation.
Actually it was the stupid American voters for not voting out years ago all the traitors that have been selling out our country and giving us false promises.Politicians like to cry we don't create business and claim that making businesses pay their fair share is anti business. They never tell about politicians making it profitable for businesses to operate in slave labor countries where they can pollute their hearts out and poison as many as they can all while being free of lawsuits, have we become that gullible as a people? We either have the dumbest leaders or the most corrupt, the USA is burning while the career politicians serve their special interest masters,it doesn't matter who gets in as long as big money decides both parties, I'm going to keep voting every incumbent out and for as many independents as I can. If everyone did that it wouldn't change the government in one election but it would sure shake them up to realize that if they do not start serving the people over big money contributions they will be finding temporary employment. The only thing that is going to save the country is putting the pressure on government to serve the people rather then self interests. The major problem is that we really don't hold all of our leaders accountable. We let them toss the hot potato of blame back and forth blaming each other. The truth is that they are all responsible for making excuses rather then solving problems while serving their own self interests then the country that they have sworn an oath to protect. We seem to have either totally incompetent people in power, totally corrupt people or both from what I can see of the direction that this world is heading.
Mark, politicians don't "make it profitable" for businesses to operate in countries like China, the countries do (and there's some blame to be had here among workers, as well, who generally don't want to work long shifts for $4 an hour doing soul-grinding menial labor). All you can blame the politicians for is not enacting protectionist measures that would have done enormous damage to our economy anyway as they throttled trade.
If you think the people in power are totally corrupt and/or incompetent, fine, but what do you think a pure and/or capable politician would do? Make laws to keep companies here? That's impossible unless you make it illegal to emigrate, and if you do that, congratulations, you're officially a fascist! Maybe you want to ban imports? Well, okay, but then you can expect all the exports to any country with sufficiently cheap labor to stop as well. Then our economy shrinks, because domestic consumption can only support so much production, and the economic stats will look MUCH WORSE than a measly 9% unemployment rate and feeble annual growth.
In any case, our leaders don't exercise nearly as much power over their people as you, or even they, think they do. You can blame them for being corrupt, but don't fool yourself into thinking that "the right person" would be able to fix it.
SF accountant there was a reason that we had tariffs in the first place, Ross Perot warned of the giant sucking sound with free trade agreements while our so called leaders promised prosperity for all. You can't compete with countries that allow slave labor and the freedom to cut costs by not having any regulations. Instead of moving forward our so called leaders are taking us backwards to the days of slave labor, child labor, unsafe working conditions and pollution so that a select few can make massive profits while the majority suffer.
Well said, mark.
andthe chinese built our railroads!
Only in the Western states, and all that track has long since been replaced. About the only thing left from Chinese labor are the planned mountain sides and tunnels.
Even so, I believe those were Chinese immigrants. Meaning Americans of Chinese descent, not the Chinese. A Chinese American is just as American as you or me.
Actually, China has a point. Didn't several US mayors just last week determine that certain religious beliefs have no place in their cities? Didn't they want an employer to move out of their cities? Why should we be concerned about how China cares for their citizens under these circumstances?
The want and the force are two different things. No one said he couldn't say what he wanted on either side, and by the way, the issue wasn't the man's religion. It was that he donates a chunk to the cause of discrimination against American citizens, and if he qualifies for a business there he will get one.
Keeping all religions out of state business is a good idea anyway.
Both countries have the right to express their views on these matters. It's better they do so in public rather than let differences fester behind the scenes. The US and China have genuine differences of substance. It's important both countries are clear about this, while attempting to have relations that are peaceful and move forward in areas where it's possible. The alternative, conflict between these two great nation states, is too terrible to contemplate.
I agree fully. The idea that nations should just shut up and smile while doing business doesn't help anybody. And things like human rights and industrial policy DO matter when forming foreign policy. It would be stupid to treat all foreign countries the same, so treating them differently demands that those differences be explained clearly for the benefit of a nation that might want to improve its standing.
We have a lot of nerve! We have GOP representatives blocking the construction of Mosques here in the United States. When the Constitution clearly states Freedom of Religion. We have a really horrible human rights record, (U.S. has more citizens incarcerated than any other industrialized nation). We have corporations that sold out the people by sending our jobs to China so they could boost profits with cheap labor. Hypocrisy thy name is USA.
And you take no blame for U.S. jobs going to China? Actually, it's the U.S. consumer who sent those jobs to China, because if you didn't buy that cheap inferior crap, business wouldn't have imported it. The people chose to save a few dollars buying inferior Chinese products and essentially sold out the American worker. This however has nothing to do with a government restricting human rights as is done in China. Are you implying that all or any of the people incarcerated in the U.S., are incarcerated for speaking out against the government, or trying to practice their religion? I can't imagine that's what you're implying, so once again this has nothing to do with government suppression of human rights. Yes, there are people trying to block the building of Mosques in various locations, and I'm sure there are Democrats involved as well. There are governers and mayors trying to supress Christian expression of belief as well. This hardly qualifies as an overall U.S. policy against religion as is the case in China. I get the feeling that your post was really just an excuse to make some anti-Republican and anti-U.S. statement since you can't be naive enough to actually believe that your points represent U.S. human rights violations. I do agree though, that the U.S. should stay out of the internal workings and civil wars of other countries.
No it was the need to make 42.50 an hour for BS that sent jobs overseas
Timothy, you have made a very good point. Consumers, corporations, unions, and government all share in the economic situation we see today. I just came home from China a week ago, and I walked by churches, temples and mosques, all in use. The official government take is atheism, but people have the right to choose and practice as they wish. I feel that there could be more to this story. And if US churches were to stay out of religion, then what the heck is all the "news" about abortion rights by government officials? Didn't I just hear about some teabagger comparing contraception to Pearl Harbor? We Americans are an arrogant bunch. BTW, most of the Chinese I met were fairly happy people and liked Americans. Folks is Folks, and governments are governments, don't ever mistake that the US are giving more rights and privileges to its citizens. Unemployment, poverty, health care, protection on the street....on and on, we better clean our own house before commenting on others. BTW the Catholic Church is not scoring too well on those points around the world either.
Incarcerating a lot of people isn't a human rights violation; you have to incarcerate them for the wrong reasons. A large prison population that is imprisoned properly just implies that a country has a lot of criminals, a very effective police force, or too many laws.
Besides, even if you want to cry foul about our criminal justice system, it pales in comparison to China's, which is controlled by the Communist party and executes more people every year than the other nations on Earth combined.
We can sit here and criticize China but as long as we continue paying them they have no incentive to change. If we stopped doing business with them, if we treated them with the same economic isolation we do with the other **it holes of the world (N. Korea, Cuba, Iran) then they would have that incentive. It is time we stop doing business with the Chinese. Shoot, it was time 20 years ago, now it is well past due.
Dan, you got it 1000% correct my friend... As long as we continue to buy their crap, we are allowing them to do as they please... They see NO REASON what so ever to change anything... In addition to provide an incentive it would also PUT AMERICANS BACK TO WORK... A good 'ol twofer... Rein in the Chinese and put Americans back to work... What a concept... But, alas it is only a dream... Politicians get TOO MUCH MONEY UNDER THE TABLE and BIG BUSINESS HAS TOO MUCH AT STAKE for anything to actually change... We live in a world gone mad... Everything is upside down and A$$ backwards...
How can the Obama administration attack China on religious rights issues when the Obama crowd is busy trying to shut down operation like Chic fil A because the owner has expressed his religious views? Seems to me that the Obama crowd is in the same boat as the Chinese communist. Shouldn't Mr. Obama be sending SOS Clinton to Chicago and Boston to give Rahm Emmanuel and Mumbles Menino lectures on religious tolerance?
Lol...nice try. No one is shutting anything down and this isn't about Mr. Obama. Nice try, though.
ram. Try to keep up. Mayors Menino and Emanuel have both threatened that they would not allow Chic fil A to operate in their cities. Which is why the whole Chic fil A thing went viral and then chic fil a had record setting sales from the backlash protest.Stop trying to cover up for the Obama crowd.
Emanuel, doesn't run that city, the thugs do.
And meanwhile back in the US, the Mayors of Chicago and Boston have shown a total disdain for the religious beliefs of the owner of a major food chain. F'kn hypocrites.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, half of our politicians/population wants to create a Constitutional amendment to bar people from their right to marry someone they love. F'kn hypocrites.
@SactoJD:
Don't have a dog in the marriage fight, but what "right" are you talking about?
The Supreme Court found marriage to be a basic right.
Loving v. Virginia. Google it.
Well, it hasn't happened yet, and it's not likely to ever happen considering how many votes it takes to add an Amendment, so I fail to see how it's a problem. There's a lot of stupid things that people want. Sometimes even a lot of people. As long as it's not being enforced with the coercive might of the government, whatever. Boys will be boys.
To paraphrase an outspoken Mitt Romney campaign aide: China can kiss our arse, religion is American holy ground.
Better that China focus internally on how to play badminton properly.
Buy Waffle Fries and stick it to the pop b u t t culture of the liberal left...:)
Excellent advice. But that's never stopped us from inserting our nose where it doesn't belong in the past.
Yes...I think the administration has its hands full denigrating the religious freedom in this country.
Reality, the reality is that the administration isn't in existence just to pander to various religious groups. It is about health care and not whose religion likes to do one thing or another. No one is denigrating anyone, and the idea is preventing religions from denigrating women and children.
Evangelicals are overdue for a trip to the woodshed to help them put their guaranteed dubious freedoms... (i.e; to be batsh*t crazy from religion)... back into perspective. But alas, evangelicals cannot thrive quietly. They are like a flesh-eating virus that requires an external, non-Christian host to feed upon in order to sustain their own delusional beliefs through Gospel witnessing of the so-called Good News.
Good news, my a**. I'd rather run into a pack of wolves than a few yammering, hypocritical, Bible-quoting "pastors".
Thank god you're around then.
Why does then U.S. feel that it has a right to stick its nose into everyone's business?? Back off, U.S.!!
Are you suggesting that we don't have a right to criticize other nations? So you'd be perfectly okay with ignoring the conduct of, say, a slave-owning nation rife with violent oppression ruled by a military leader, and treating them the same as Switzerland or Canada? Because anything else would be "sticking our nose into their business", you know.
No problem China. We don't have a president these days. He is off on his 195th fundraiser since April - more than the past five presidents combined during their first terms. He hasn't a clue what is going on in Washington much less Bejing. And of course he is using Air Force One at $189,000 an hour. Hell, it isn;t his money! What does he care?
Oh, Watermoon, nice little talking points you got in there. Congrats:)
WATERMOON Nothing is going on in WASHINGTON the party of no is not passing any thing. They do not want to make OBAMA look good.Come NOV.they will be the ones looking for work.
You mean like last time when they took control of the house?
Tibetans keep protesting! Communism in China is collapsing. 37 years of their one child only policy has resulted in a country where the majority is elderly and there are not enough young people to keep the country functioning. The Tienanmen Square massacre is still fresh in the minds of the Chinese people. The old guard is dying off. Keep up the pressure. China and Tibet will be free soon.
Screw the friggin chinese.
All they ever do is whine about this and about that.
Nobody in the world likes china or what it stands for.
They are already in the public eye for their cheating at the olympics this year.
They have already been accused twice for cheating, which they are most certainly guilty of.
Nothing that china does is honest or above board, and the rest of the world realizes this and knows what low life scum bag cheaters and liars they really are.
Anything they win in the olympic games is a rip off because you can bank that they did not win it honestly or without doping of some kind.
they have been doing this for decades and will continue to do it.
China is one gigantic scum bag country full of cheaters and liars.
Just like the REPUBLICAN PARTY.
frank
Throws his support, like a true Obama bum kisser, behind the communist dictators in China. Thanks for exposing yourself as a communist sympathizer.
AmeriKKKa: 'Screw the Chinese?!!
But, wouldn't that be like a flea trying to mount an elephant, Pilgrim?
And what if he become amourous? 'Then, you'd be really fugg'd' huh? jajajaja.
Yup, the United Snakes (US/Israel/NATO) have taught may despots and especially the racist Jews about power and aggression.
No, China is one gigantic scum bag country RUN by cheaters and liars. There's a big difference.
No nation's entire population is corrupt and dishonest. The Chinese are just like anyone else trying to make their living and get by. They just have it harder than us because they're run by people who realized that Marxism went out of fashion 30 years ago but really like the whole authoritarian setup.
In Russia the NED/USAID (CIA fronts posing as democracy agitators) are spending millions to make life difficult ofr Putin. In Honduras we (((knocked out the democratically elected presidenrt because he looked at Hugo Chavez with a friendly gaze. In Libya and now Syria the Great Satan is working 24/7 to (((knock))) out governments that have proved an impediment to Jewish terrorism and US imperialism. And (glory be!) Now the Great Satan is now in the China sea trying to intimidate the peole after who's country the damned sea was named!. Can you belive that - fugging with its banker; of all people, in a region they have ruled for 5,000 years!!! In AF/PAK, Somalia and Yeman we are fighting to destroy governments that will not 'bend over' for the 900 lb. US gorilla (or even bring the vasaline). So, the question that 'begs to be answered' is WTF. Why is the Great Satan doing this if indeed he's 'spreddling' democracy to the world (Because the MF'er hates democracy because when the 'people have a say' (Arab Spring) the evil twins (US/Israel go out the window with the toilet water, that's why!), Why? Because the MF'er isn't what it swears he is - that's why!The sad thing is that the American 'sheeple' just don't get it. They prefer their BS of 'Woe is me.' look what the Muslims (They don't dare say Saudi's - I wonder why, they actually did to us) - they murdered 2,900 Americans at WTC 1 and we weren't doing anything wrong Momma, 'I swear! (Besides financing Jewish terrorism, that is). Yassar, AmeriKKKa, you even have a problem with a little 16 year old Chinese swimmer that 'kicks your ass bloody' and wins a gold against the United Snake (US/Britain and France) and now as you get your ass kicked in Afganistan by some raggedy Taliban 'patriots' fighting you with antiquated Vietnam era AK-47's, RPG-7's and a few rare WW I Enfield rifles to defended (Like in Pearl Harbour, remember that one, schmucks?) their country from US/NATO aggression (and the resources you want to steal - not to mention the UNOCAL oil/gas line you have coveted but the Afghans are determined to keep you from building to feed carbon resources from Azerbaijan and Caspian sea basin to the sissy frass bankrupt EU thieves that hate to accept the fact that 'they are on life support' and they are about to become histroy like little Portugal - an ex world power that now spends its time mending its fishing nets and laying low with no (((thunder))) to exhibit because that ain't caca as a world power anymore no matter how many 'tall' ships they own.) = And you are 'suing' the the Taliban for peace?!!!! Shameless bastards, I sh*t on you, like the rest of the Muslim world begins to do. I can't believe it - 'You are actually suing the Taliban for peace!' KICK ASS some more Mujajudeen!!! Jajajajaja, shameless bastards!
Ah well I will just golf. Drink some wine and be happy to be an American.
I got to the word "sheeple" before I couldn't contain laughter anymore. I'm sorry, but somehow that one word always makes me imagine the person writing it is some Goth kid curled up in a corner with their laptop while muttering to themselves.
Anyway, your comments are plenty ridiculous, but you contradict yourself too. You say that the US is knocking out governments in Libya and Syria, and yet you also claim that the Arab Spring (at work in Libya and Syria) is a genuine democratic movement that the US wants to quash. Not that I take you seriously at all, but I'm curious as to which one you actually belive in, or if you just look at every single news item separately and think up on the spot how America is the bad guy.
AZ Cowboy,
For being an ex-fighter pilot, ( according to you ) of 104s, 15s and 16s, you sure don't sound too intelligent. I'm just a dumb grunt, but I thought you pilots had to have some sort of book smarts. Your paragraphs make no sense and the punctuation, capitalization, and spelling are atrocious. Maybe if you really are an ex-pilot, you bailed out, ejected, whatever and struck your head on the canopy one too many times. That could be the source of your problems. I don't think your flight helmet helpedprotect that brain of yours.
Stupid computer!!!! It jacked up the space between helped and protect. What the hell, my bad, I'll take a HEAT round for that one.
