UK cops: Body identified as missing oil executive

Metropolitan Police

Carole Waugh

A body found in a lock-up garage in New Malden, southwest London, was identified as that of missing oil executive Carole Waugh, the Scotland Yard said Friday.

Waugh, 50, who had previously worked in the oil industry in London and Libya, had not been seen by family or friends since April, when they discussed a planned 50th birthday party for her in June.

Concerns grew last week, when British police said Waugh may have been abducted by a gang of fraudsters who have tried to sell her $1 million London apartment and may have forced her to hand over her bank codes.

Detectives said that an unidentified man impersonating her brother had met people in her apartment in central London's upmarket Marylebone neighborhood in an apparent attempt to sell the property, The Times reported (site operates behind a paywall).

The man, 47, was initially arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and kidnap, the BBC reported. He was later arrested on suspicion of murder, however, when police decided to treat Waugh's disappearance as a murder investigation.

The body was found in a Volkswagen Golf parked in a private courtyard, the BBC reported. Waugh's jewelry and stolen money are still missing.

Detectives believe she may have led a double life. According to the BBC, prostitution was one line of inquiry, along with Waugh's use of Internet dating sites.

Waugh was single, and police have been trying to trace men she may have met online.

Police officers told The Times that Waugh had been impersonated by at least three women at financial institutions across London. Earlier last week, two women, aged 48 and 50, were arrested on charges of conspiracy to defraud in connection with the case. The 48-year-old has been freed on bail, the newspaper said.

Why would an oil exec live a double life, as a possible prostitue at that?

NyFarmBoy79 - I thought that at first also, but once I re-read it I believe they meant that her double life was in a professional business woman and the more "sordid" life being that she hired male prostitutes... Personally being a Oil Exec is the dirtier of the 2 professions in my opinion ;)

Especially one who did business with Gaddafi at that.

Hey Dan, drive much? Then you did business with Libya as well. No one would be screwing us but that we allow it. Some of us have been standing up to such stuff for decades, but everyone hated and reviled us. Called us names. Granted, tree-hugger, is about as bad as a name as anyone can come up with for us eco-warriors. There is a reason for that. We have Mother Earth and God on our side. Still no judgement on this woman until you stop the oil and coal industry by demanding the alternatives!

Regarding prostitution, the article is poorly written. Not possible to tell what the author meant.

Jay, it's easy to tell if you do, it always works out to the benefit of them (Mother Earth and God) in the long run. So the fact that we have gone to sustainable energy despite the oilheads is one proof of my claim. The extinction of humans through their stupidity long before the end of the planet is another........

KNW-Bleeding Eagles Green, you people are hypocrites. Let me ask you, does your house get its power from solar panels or wind farms? No, it does not. So you like to have your five tvs, dvrs, dvds, phones, hair dryers, etc, etc, etc, but you seem to think the energy to power those devices comes from a magical fairy. You're guilty of consumption just like all the other sanctimoneous, hypocrites on this site whining about this woman being an oil executive. Someone is going to feed your appetite for power. What's wrong with that? It's comical, really it is.

Personally, I would've preferred it to be an AIG exec.

What a charming set of comments from a bunch of airheads!! A person is dead and everything beyond that is speculation. While investigations are on-going, the police need to learn to shut up. Anything else is unprofessional.

The fact that she did oil business with Libya is not speculation.

Correction: An oil executive is dead and everything beyond that is speculation.

Let's not go crazy and start considering them people.

She is a person. She is dead. She has a family that is having to now deal with her death. Say all you want about not liking her, or her profession, but she is still a human being that has been murdered.

Perhaps in the scientific sense of the term, yes, she was a human being.

It has nothing to do her taking the job. It has to do with being the kind of person who is given such a job.

Z-933870, jealous much? If you could get a job paying a lot of money I'm sure you would take it too.

I honestly hope that when you or someone you care about dies someone will celebrate like some of you are doing that now calling her death a good thing (this is mostly directed toward the first comments).

            you are 100% correct:

If I worked at Chick-Fillet, I'd say; "I feel for her Family, and hope they can find peace"

If I were protesting Chick-Fillet, I'd say; "GREAT NEWS, The evil Biatch deserved it, she was an A-HOLE"

No wonder the World is not a nice place to live in with some of the heartless comments I see on these posts. You can't get along with one another because of your hatred and bigotry. Your wish for harm to come to folks that work in oil or have money. If this is what they call Mankind the World and the people in it are what makes it truly a hideous place to reside.

Why would a millionaire stoop to PROSTITUTION??? How stupid to even suggest this without evidence to back that statement up. How about just getting the person or persons that did this and stay out of her life.
