Three Marines were killed instantly, and the fourth was seriously wounded but the gunman escaped. NBC's Jim Miklaszewski reports.
Updated at 12:35 p.m. ET: KABUL, Afghanistan -- A man wearing an Afghan army uniform shot and killed three American Marines, the U.S. military command said Friday. Afghan officials said the victims were American special operations forces troops.
Reuters reported that an Afghan police commander opened fire on the service members after inviting them to a meeting to discuss security. A U.S. military official confirmed the three deaths and said another service member had been injured during the incident.
NBC News' Jim Miklaszewski reported that a "lone gunman" remained on the loose and was being hunted. U.S. military officials said all of the American victims were Marines.
Citing Afghan officials, Reuters said the American special operations forces members were killed late Thursday while attending a meeting in the Sarwan Qala area, in what appeared to be a planned attack by rogue Afghan forces.
"The commander was Afghan National Police in charge of local police in Sangin," a senior Afghan official told Reuters on condition of anonymity. Sangin is a district of Helmand province.
"It looks like he had drawn up a plan to kill them previously," the official added.
A military official told NBC News' Courtney Kube that it was unclear whether the gunman was a member of the Afghan security forces or whether he was just wearing a uniform.
Taliban spokesman Qari Yousef Ahmadi told The Associated Press by telephone that the attacker, whom he identified as a member of Helmand police named Asadullah, had been helping U.S. forces train Afghan local police troops. However, the Taliban has made false claims about the details of attacks in the past.
A U.S. military official says three American service members were killed and one was wounded after a gunman opened fire on them. NBCNews.com's Dara Brown reports.
The attack is the third killing this week of coalition soldiers by Afghans who are training to take over responsibility for security once most international forces leave in 2014.
So-called "green on blue" shootings, in which Afghan police or soldiers turn their guns on their Western mentors, have seriously eroded trust between the allies.
According to NATO, there have been 24 such attacks on foreign troops since January in which 28 people have been killed. Last year, there were 21 attacks in which 35 people were killed.
Senior Army leader slain
Earlier, the Pentagon confirmed that three U.S. service members -- including a senior Army leader -- and an American aid worker were killed Wednesday by a suicide bomber in Kunar province.
The victims included Command Sgt. Maj. Kevin J. Griffin, the most senior enlisted soldier for the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. Griffin, 45, of Riverton, Wyo., was a Bronze Star recipient who first enlisted in the Army in 1988.
Maj. Thomas E. Kennedy, 35, of West Point, N.Y., and Air Force Maj. Walter D. Gray, 38, of Conyers, Ga., were also killed. USAID foreign service officer Ragaei Abdelfattah was identified as the other victim.
On Tuesday, two gunmen wearing Afghan army uniforms killed a U.S. soldier and wounded two others in Paktia province in the east.
And on Thursday, two Afghan soldiers tried to gun down a group of NATO troops outside a military base in eastern Afghanistan. No international forces were killed, but one of the attackers was killed as NATO forces shot back.
NBC News' Courtney Kube, Jim Miklaszewski and Atia Abawi, The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.

And we're still in that cat litter box............why????
And we think we can civilize these gomers..........how???
What a pathetic waste of our troops' lives.
Any comment President Karzai? If we catch and kill that "officer" will you condemn our actions?
If I were President...(Jeeves. will you bring me another) as I was saying I would send someone over there to set up a Bain Satellite office and outsource our troops to another more friendly war!
Fire up the drones.........
we need to level the places over there that are a threat then just leave. Those animals don't want our help, let them blow eachother up.
And an open-ended war in that hell hole is what Republicans want. No time line or or plan to get out, just keep it going until when? 2014 can't come soon enough.
Obama/Biden 2012
We are getting out, unfortunately not quick enough. An article yesterday said we are quickening the withdrawl somewhat, but we just cannot call Mayflower and GTFO today!
The Dufus puppet Bush got us in there and kept us there for 7 years, now we know you cannot teach these people even by dot-to-dot so we are leaving - This is unfortunately what you get when you try to civilize these Camel @!$%#ers
Afghanistan has never been civilized. Its remoteness and geography encourages tribalism. Its culture doesn't need literacy since it is based upon rudimentary farming of crops such as opium. There is no concept of cooperation or sharing to the point that Afghan children openly steal from other Afghan children. It is, and always has been, a cultural cesspool because of its remoteness and because of its economy based upon drugs and charging “royalties” for goods going through it from the as part of the “Silk Trail” from China. Its criminal cultural has now made it a major source of heroin, most of which goes to Russia to keep the Russian Mob in power. (Heroin addiction in Russia is not a bigger problem than alcoholism, which has become the payback for Russia’s invasion of Afghanistan.) As such, it not only made an “excellent” breeding ground for Al Qaeda and the Taliban, with globalization it has become, and will be, a cultural cesspool for the rest of the world unless a solution is found to bring Afghan culture into the 21st Century.
Our culture no longer has the resources or “discipline” to do to Afghanistan what we did to "Native Americans" when we “civilized” and took over the North American continent. (The technical description of our “civilization” of Native Americans is called “genocide.”)
However, although Alexander the Great, imperialistic Britain, Communist Russia, and the US military have failed to bring modern civilization to Afghanistan, there is a "solution."
The ONLY country in the world that has the resources, finances, cultural attitude, and technical skills to disarm the Afghan population, secure the borders, destroy the opium/heroin crop, and turn the rare-earth minerals of NE Afghanistan into the economic replacement for the heroin of SE Afghanistan is Afghanistan's next door neighbor China. We need to get our troops out of Afghanistan now and turn the country over to China. We outsource almost everything else to China. It's time that we outsourced this war to them as well.
China won the war in Vietnam. It's time they won a war for us. (Besides, it would also keep China's military so busy that they wouldn't have time or the resources to threaten us.)
As the number of wasted American soldiers lives in Afghanistan approaches 3,200 we need to keep in mind the almost 5,000 wasted military lives in Iraq. Let's not waste another life for nothing more than bush's revenge and our military out of control!
Ya, and if it was the other way around the towel heads would be rioting in the streets. The only way to win a war like this is turn this "sh*t hole country into glass!!!!!! In "WAR" it's kill or be killed and we are sucking hind wind in this war....how dumb.
desertboy,
You sound like a true republican conservative. The British tried and the Russians tried and now we are wasting lives. It has been going on for 180 years The FOX military industrial complex has done a number on your brain!
Clwyd...are you serious? 'The Fox military industrial complex'! Spoken like a true liberal. BTW, the last time I looked, we have a Dem President and Senate. The annointed one could stop this war in a minute if he wanted to. Do you hear him or any of this people discuss AFG and what the right course of action is? No, he's too busy trying to get elected again so he can 'fundamentally change' the US to a socialists country and redistribute the wealth', just like he said he would. Speaking of 'doing a number on your brain', I think you qualify first!
Please google Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project. This is why your loved ones have died and dementia is the Bushes' best friend.
NJ John
You need to keep up with the news buddy. Try reading AP sometimes. The Republicans in Congress have been stalling on withdrawals, even discussing it. Their plan was to stall, stall so that they could make Obama a one term president. Even McCain has voiced his displeasure on this strategy.
After 9/11, some of us did not want a war with Afghanistan. We proposed intensifying sanctions on Afghanistan, and imposing sanctions on Pakistan and Bangla Desh. Yes, some of our Aid to these countries found its way found its way into the pockets of the Taliban. Pak's ISI's support of the Taliban an Al Qaeda is well documented. This was 10.5 years ago. We could have air-dropped food in order to prevent a humanitarian disaster. By now, the Taliban would have collapsed!!! and we could have done that without sacrificing one of our children!!!
To all liberal commentators, yes the Afghanis are people, but so are we, and we are more important to us. We have lost more than 8000 soldiers and about 25 000 maimed. Is this worth it? In the process, we have just about destryed our country and credibility.
NJ John, you are an armchair quarterback. If Obama just abruptly pulled all our troops out when he took office, you would be one of the ones calling him "coward". So he tried to pull our troops out gradually, and now you are name-calling for that. No matter what Obama does, you are going to throw spears.
Obama has been relatively conservative for a Democratic president, with the possible exception of the Healthcare bill. And even that was modeled after Romneycare.
What immense hypocrisy for you right-wingers to blame Obama for being mired in the Bush wars and the Bush recession, especially when it is painfully obvious that Republicans have become the party of "NO" to everything that Obama has tried to do, whether it was in the national interest or not.
But, but, but, I thought when Obama shot Osama the terrorism would end.
This just proves that Osama was simply symbolic. Osama was insignificant for years as he sat in his compound watching porn. We've killed dozens of their "Second" and "Third" in command and yet the violence continues. Twice as many of our troops have died in Barrack Husseins "Right War" under his governance. Where is the outrage? Where are the limp-wristed Libbie protests? Why isn't CNN running their daily death count like they did when Bush was in office?
I'll bet Barrack Hussein hasn't thought about our troops more than twice this year as he spends his whole life desperately lying about everything to fool the American people into voting for him.
Romney 2012 for a real America.
Can we just nuke these primitives already?
3 trained professions wiped out by one guy?
Goes to show that anyone can be caught off guard and just because you are armed does not mean you can retaliate in a situation you are not prepared for.
My condolences to the families for their losses.
NJ John,
Of course, I'm serious! I was polite in calling them the FOX military industrial complex rather than the New american Nazi party which they are.
Yes, I hear him and see him as we pullout our troops from a place they never should have been sent in the first place except for the nut that sent them there in the first place. bushwhacker!
Stop feeding yourself a full diet of FOX News!
Spencer, How utterly uneducated and childish a statement you have made! Must be a conservative retard? and or x-army associated?
clwyd, must be a liberal sheep.
Why do they insist on wasting our time, monies and lives on this forsaken wilderness of ignorant goat-herders? They never wanted us there to begin with, we give them billions in assistance, they're stuck in the 5th century with no hope of changing, they hate us, they kill our troops... again, what is it we are doing there? Ramp up the pullout and get us out of there asap!
What exactly is this War saving us from?
Obama lie when he promises bring the troops back home, more soldiers died in afghanistan during the last three years than the 8 years that bush wast the commander in chief. Liberals dont care about our troops, they just pretend, bunch of hypocrites. The madia don't longer report the name of our soldiers killed in combat, pink code who unse to go to congress painted in red to protest against Bush and the war in the Middle East is silent since Obama is president , and the demands to bring the troops back home are part of the past, even we have thousand of soldiers fighting in ME.
Enough is Enough and I am fed up with America fighting humanely and by the rules when these worthless excuses of life and our enemies never have.
I have never been this fed up in my life, not even during the Vietnam War, which I was totally against - but OUR Troops took out the enemy every chance they got and did it right. I believe in an Eye for an Eye and destroying any and all enemies - WHATEVER IT TAKES - but have always stood back and let others take care of business, just like the majority of American's have - but this ENEMY NEEDS TO BE WIPED OUT - AND NOW.
Also, in my personal opinion, all American Troops and other Troops Fighting with American's - need to Fight exactly like these EVIL, GOD'S FORSAKEN PEOPLE do - even in regards to their own people - with absolutely no regard for human life. All of these people are worthless to their own people and governments except to use as suicide bombers, making and planting IEDS, lying and setting up American Troops and all other Troops also fighting on the side of the American's.
YES we need to be as low, scum, crawling in the dirt, worthless, thoughtless and heartless as these people in these countries have been since the beginning of time - and for as long as it takes to wipe them out. Fight fire with fire, etc. or rather spray these entire countries with Agent Orange and bomb them with Napalm. And the USA pays nothing for any and all damage or cleanup, etc.
This is WAR and American Troops need to start taking them out the right way and NOW. Quit screwing around like in all the past years and do the job the way the Majority of the American people and World want; but do not want to admit it outright. Like me, majority of American's are finally getting fed up to where we either want all of our Troops HOME IMMEDIATELY or if they are forced to stay there - then they need to wipe out this enemy - which is EVERY living person of those Nationalities in all of those countries. PERIOD.
War is War - Annihilate all of the enemy including women, children, babies and the elderly. No women = no more babies. These worthless POS would do just that and are planning that on American Soil and Other Good Countries Soils and have been for years.
FOR EVERY AMERICAN KILLED and EVERY PERSON FIGHTING ON AMERICA'S SIDE KILLED - USA TROOPS NEED TO WIPE OUT 25, every day - or as many as they can, all day and all night long - until every American and those working on the America's side are back home. Use up every Drone and Bomb the USA has to get the job done ASAP.
Then mark it up as either collateral damage, unintentional and or incidental injury and or damage or PTSD and move on to another area and group and repeat, repeat, repeat - UNTIL ALL OF OUR AMERICAN TROOPS AND ALL TROOPS FIGHTING ON AMERICA'S SIDE - COME HOME WALKING ON THEIR OWN TWO FEET AND NOT IN A CASKET.
Take Care of Business - An Eye for An Eye - at least and no less.
THIS IS EXACTLY - WHAT IS CALLED FOR IN THE - US. SOLIDER'S CREED -
Plus all Other Creeds for EACH BRANCH of the US MILITARY - AND - ESPECIALLY THIS ONE -
" KILL'EM ALL, AND LET GOD SORT'EM OUT "
GOD BLESS AMERICA AND ALL AMERICAN MILITARY AND ALL OTHER MILITARY FIGHTING ON THE SIDE OF THE AMERICA.
AMERICA ALSO NEEDS TO BLOCK ANY AND ALL PERSONS OF THESE NATIONALITIES FROM ENTRY INTO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA FOR ANY AND ALL REASONS INCLUDING TO STUDY, LIVE HERE AND FOR MEDICAL REASONS.
Quit bringing these ENEMIES OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE here for free medical, dental, optical, hearing, etc. and surgeries, medicines, equipment, etc.
TAKE CARE OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE FIRST. There are hundreds of thousands of NATURAL BORN AMERICAN CITIZENS dying daily due to lack of medical and dental care, etc. because they can not pay - but yet these worthless living beings are brought here for free, at no cost to them or their countries and all medical, dental, surgeries, etc. are free to them and paid for by UNITED STATES OF AMERICA TAXPAYERS.
TO ALL TRUE AMERICAN'S - QUIT DONATING TO CHARITIES WHO GIVE EVEN ONE PENNY TO HELP THESE ENEMIES OF AMERICA, which includes all the Big Named Charities, unless they start putting a Disclaimer that States and they also follow it - ALL MONIES ARE USED FOR UNITED STATES OF AMERICAN CITIZENS ONLY WHO LIVE AND WORK IN THE USA ONLY.
The American people really do not want any of these Nationalities here because they are only here to KILL AMERICAN'S IN THE NAME OF THEIR RELIGION. They are here to breed like rabbits and spread their hate and God Forsaken Religion until they and their religion become a major part of America.
I JUST THANK GOD THAT I AM TOO OLD TO LIVE LONG ENOUGH TO SEE IT MORE THAN IT IS NOW.
Anyone not in agreement with my post - I could care less. Like I said, for the first time in my life I am totally fed up and speaking out with my own personal opinion. You are entitled to yours and I am entitled to mine.
GOD BLESS ALL OF THOSE WHO AGREE WITH ME AND ALL OTHERS WHO HAVE FINALLY BEEN FORCED TO HAVE THESE SAME PERSONAL OPINIONS LIKE I HAVE.
"Obama has been relatively conservative for a Democratic president, with the possible exception of the Healthcare bill. And even that was modeled after Romneycare."--Alan1234
Like it or not, guys, Obama's "change" morphed into retaining the status quo when it came to the wars. You can't tell me that he could not have managed to pull our people out of Afghanistan within his first four years. And HE did not get us out of Iraq; as much as it irks you guys it was BUSH's deadline that drew down the troops in Iraq. Obama just waited out the deadline.
And his signature healthcare reform bill was modeled after an enemy Republican's bill... but I thought the Republicans were traitors and enemies of the USA and can't do anything good!??? Since it was Obama then it was okay and liberal and progressive, hunh?
I'm an ex-Obama supporter; he lost me when he caved to the insurance companies on the Public Option. How did his "change" work out for you that time?
As much as I dislike the Republicans, I'm thinking that maybe four years later it is STILL time for change. I think I'll just write in Paris Hilton. With the choices available this election, she couldn't do any worse but definitely looks a lot better.
Start loading the transport planes NOW! Get our troops out of that $h!t hole, and back home immediately. If we have to leave a few "Toys" in their sandbox, who cares?
Most of that stuff will get destroyed or moth-balled, if we bring it home anyway!
What the liberal media has yet to report is that in the 3 years President Obama has been in office we have lost 1137 US Troops in Afganistan. That is almost twice the amount (630) that we lost in the under Bush. Why are we losing this many troops in just three years and why isn't the liberal media reporting it!
Hey What Else is New...you would have made a fantastic Nazi. Considering your own people superior to another and the willingness to wipe out those who are inferior is a great character trait for a fascist dictatorship. Unfortunately, you were born too late and in the wrong country.
Holy sh17 WHAT ELSE IS NEW X you're going to bring the full wrath of the vocal "liberal" minority down on your head. I suggest you just shut your browser down now and go read a book. You don't want to read what's going to be said about you. Your opinion is not popular, so in their eyes you don't have the right to speak.
I don't necessarily agree with everything you said, but I do understand where you're coming from. Good luck to you, and please try to relax a little.
JimSpense,
I could agree with you on a couple of points you made, only, who made Afghanistan a protracted war in the first place?
Who took us into Iraq with falsefied intellegence reports (Keep in mind that Daddy Bush was the former CIA Director)?
Who used the Iraq conflict to deflect the US attention away from the fact that nothing was being accomplished in Afghanistan, or to address OBVIOUS issues with the US economy, and did ABSOLUTELY nothing to stop the downward spiral, but who did add additional tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations?
It astounds me, as a FORMER Republican, at how you can delude yourself and try to blame a man (ineffective as he has been in regard to the economy) who has only been in office for three years. Oh yeah, you were blaming him after he had only been in office for 12 MONTHS? Obama is inexperienced, but then again, anyone would be in addressing an economic disaster that only missed true "Depression" stature, because of the WORLD economy. Obama did what was needed in Afghanistan, and yes, we need to get out of there. Osama is DEAD, not because of the war in Afghanistan, but because we FOUND OUT where he was and took him out! THAT was what should have been done, instead of messing with the Taliban. Where was he, by the way? PAKISTAN, the country BUSH made "friends" with and was paying $3 BILLION a year!!!??? Math would show that to be, oh, $15 BILLION since the deal was struck, and during that ENTIRE time he was living right next to a major military academy...hmmm, something doesn't smell very good about any of this.
Yet, in your mind Bush could do no wrong...Obama is the vilain here. Please remove your cranium from your rectal opening.
War has a home field advantage, just as it did the original guerilla fighters, the Colonists. Invade and be conquered. Also, it's just proof that the more weaponry you have isn't an advantage when only the other guy knows his intent.
There will be a time when we all awaken and say NO more wars. What will defense contractors do if they can't make WMD's? Maybe they'll have to get a job working on the infrastructure.
The deaths of these three troops gets a short line below the streaming pictures of bigger and more pressing conflicts - like the US women's soccer team t-shirts. Our troops are as easy to throw away as fast food containers. Bring them home today, tomorrow or by Friday of next week. They'll be as forgettable to the government, the administration and the masses here as they were there, as evidenced in both what is not said and what is not done. But at least their families will be able to embrace them and along with that, finally erase their daily suffocating fear that those special people who were proven to never have mattered to anyone else, might not have come back home to them at all.
This is why I believe we should only fight wars at here at home. I know there are many who do not believe this but after a war we spend hundreds of billions of dollars to rebuild that country, A lot which is stolen. Also. You can't ever tell the good guy from the bad.
I for one am tired of people trying to compare our economic problems today to the Great Depression or as bad as the Great Depression. There is no comparison whatsoever. And those that continue to compare the two for one didn't live through it and two haven't read their history. The economy today can be closely compared to what the country went through under Carter. The only difference is the interest rates are not high, but that is controlled by the Federal Reserve, who really has kept them far too low adding to the problems. And we don't have gas lines, but our prices are far too high. But the liberals & media would rather point to the Depression as an example rather than remind the country how dismal the economy was under Carter which would be a much more truer comparison.
Spencer.
You are right this conservative, now liberal sheep, left the flock long ago when Goldwater politics became liberal compared to you right wing nut case verging on Nazi republicans. My former party has been stolen by the right extremist terrorists. The FOX brainwashing had had no effect on me as I have a brain, Tin Man
As a vet, it just makes me madder than a hornet when i read stuff like this...I never trusted our kit carson scouts, or any other so called friendlies while serving in the Nam'....we had guys killed/wounded to often back then that we never turned our backs on them or always had 2 or more guys at any meeting with an informer....I just can't believe that the commanders in afghanistan haven't figured this crap out yet...if in doubt just light em up, never trust a so called ally, NEVER!...no matter what their rank or even if you know them...call me paranoid, but i'm still here...I have a son preparing to be deployed over there, and if i've told him once ive told him a hundred times trust no one except your fellow marine...damn i'm pissed now.
clwyd, I love how liberals cry about Fox news. Yes, they have a conservative bias. But no more so than most of the other news stations have a liberal bias.
Of course you have a brain. Just a very weak one. Get mad over one thing, and you change your whole perspective on life. Then I'm sure once you finally accept what a failure Obama is, you'll switch back to republican.... They don't want you.
And for the record, I'm Libertarian, not Republican.
Everyone please stop bringing politics into this... and it definitely doesn't have anything to do with FOX news (I can't stand that news channel, BTW). We went in for good reasons, to kill bin laden. It took longer than expected, but it has been accomplished. Our troops have tried to do more than they should by giving Afghanistan a chance to join the 21st century, but they have chosen to stay in the stone age with these cowardly murders against our troops. It's time to bring our boys home and let that place rot!
Too much MSNBC, CNN, NBC, Rachel Madow, Chris Mathews, Keith Oberman, and the rest of the media bias like Media Matters. All Is bias and you are drinkings Kool-aid. The only conservative news is FOX , the only channel that bring to the spot light news that the rest of the media hide for political convenience, we don't we have fair and balance media , but you want to shut them up, in order to have the monopoly to promote the liberal propaganda. There is no journalism anymore, journalism died when the liberals toke over the news, all we have now is the yellow press, PR for Obama and the liberals.
mimmi... what you said makes sense.so it was collapsed by yahooo.
I will repeat it...
An AAfghanistan'sploce commander with several of his men killed the 3 US Special Forces men in the southern Helmand province turning their guns on them .They were invited for dinner to discuss the security issuesn the province.(Sarwan Qala area). The police commander is an Afghanistan National Police Force police. Also a foreign soldier and 7 civilians were killed by a roadside bomb earlier in Helmand prov. Thursday and in the eastern province of Kunar 3 US soldiers and an US Aid worker also on Thursday. So far this year (2012)since January there have been 24 such attacks (green on blue= Afghani soldiers/police killing NATO soldiers)total 28 killed (+3 Spec.Ops). In 2011 there were 21 attacks and 35 killed. Very little attention is being paid in US for this 'Forgotten War' it seems and in the meanwhile Obama adm. is releasing Taliban soldiers back .
For those of you making this a political issue, cram it. If McCain had been elected we'd be just as deep in this quagmire, give or take an inch. It's got nothing to do with who's in charge here and EVERYTHING to do with who's in charge over there (i.e., Karzai's gov't and the Taliban).
I've said it before and I'll say it again: the only way to "win" there would be for us to stoop to the level of our enemy, and we're unwilling/unable to do that. If the Taliban had the kind of miltiary superiority we enjoy, they would butcher us wholesale and take everything we have, including our women and children, and not think twice about the moral or ethical ramifications. If you don't believe that, you're kidding yourself. I'm not advocating such a course of action for us, I'm just saying that's what it'd take to quell incidents like these. It's tantamount to genocide, so we shouldn't and won't do it, but the more I read of these "green on blue" attacks, the more I'm convinced that the only way these cockroaches will stay under the rocks is if they believed we'd murder them wholesale the same way they're willing to murder us. Right now, being merciful is a luxury and it's our boys paying the price. GET 'EM OUT NOW!
It is our fault for still being there, 10 years after winning the war with Taliban. We should have made peace with them at that time, instead of creating a phony-baloney government of Karzai-the-crook and his gang of 40 thousand thieves. The blood of our servicemen is on the hands of our politicians kowtowing to the industrial military complex.
@ WHAT ELSE IS NEW X:
Wow.....that was quite the diatribe.
However, that level of violence is not only ridiculous, but it's not necessary.
First of all, let me state that I am rather liberal. One of those people that would, in fact, probably be labeled as a "left wing bat sh!t nut job." I just throw that out there so people can be armed with that information when they go to flame me. Wouldn't want people getting the wrong idea and thinking I'm trying to hide that fact.
However, I think people sometimes have the wrong idea, and believe all of us liberals are so "warm and fuzzy" that we don't understand defense. They think we just want to let people shove us around, and turn the other cheek.
ABSOLUTELY INCORRECT.
We just have a different, and, I believe, more sane way of looking at it. Cheaper, too. With less cost in human life.
WHAT IS THIS AMAZING PLAN, YOU ASK? Simple:
We spend a few bucks on bullets and grenades instead of billions on bombs.
No women and children get killed, either.
Sheesh.
Military Man-1740371
A protracted war. Now there’s an interesting statement from a “Military Man”. What war has anyone ever been in that you set a deadline? They’re all protracted! You never know how long a war will last. Did we go into WW II and set a 2 year deadline? If you really want to debate a “protracted war” we can go into Vietnam, I don’t think you want to go there after what your boy-toy Johnson did, do you?
“If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction program.”
President Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998
“Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process.”
Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998
“Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation … And now he is miscalculating America’s response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction… So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real …”
Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan.23.2003
Want me to go on? I have dozens more. Of course Liberals are always against something in retrospect after they were for something. For 5 (FIVE) years everyone was convinced that there were WMD. Our best intelligence confirmed it. Of course the Liberals just assumed Saddam would keep them out in plain sight for the inspectors to come in and find, right? Pleas "Military Man", don't tell me you're so easily deceived.
You mean issues like the dot-com recession Bush inherited from Clinton and 9/11? The one where the Dow crashed from a high of 11,497 in August of 1999 to a low of 7,591 in Sept. Of 2002? Where the NASDAQ collapsed from a high of 4,696 on February of 2000 to 1,172 in Sept. of 2002? You mean when his tax policy began working our revenues went from a low of $1.9 trillion to $2.29 trillion in 2008? Which by the way was almost as high as Clintons best year at $2.3 trillion in 2000. You mean where the DOW then rose from that low of 7,591 in 2002 to a historic high of 13,930 on Oct. 2007? Yes, the wars have cost us over a trillion dollars but in the meantime we have added $5.2 trillion under Obama. For what? A $863 billion $timulu$ that has created 4.4 million jobs. This equates to $200,000 PER JOB! We would have been better off just giving businesses $50,000 to hire someone, we would have created over 17 million jobs.
Obama is inexperienced, but then again, anyone would be in addressing an economic disaster that only missed true "Depression" stature,
Let me guess. You’re basing this assertion that we missed a Depression level event because we wasted almost $700 Billion on TARP and an $863 billion $timulu$ because the “economists” say so, right? Are these the same “economists” that didn’t have a clue, or say a peep, months before the housing and liquidity collapse began? Those “economists”? There were a handful of authorities that saw the crash coming and these same “economists” ridiculed them as being irrational. But now we’re all supposed to believe they can just tell us we missed a Depression or a falling off some mythical cliff. Please tell me you’re not that gullible.
Today Barrack Hussein is on his envy campaign because he can’t run on any policy accomplishments. He can’t even create a reasonable budget for 4 years, but that’s OK with you “FORMER Republican’s”, right? Why would you need a budget for the biggest economy in history when we have the brilliance of Barrack Hussein, Timmy “Turbo Tax” Geithner, uncle Ben Bernanke to just spend our tax dollars on a continuing resolution basis. Everybody does that, right?
Now his solution is the typical “class warfare” of the Liberal mind. His “fair” tax on the rich will generate $85 billion a year. We spend $10 billion EVERY SINGLE DAY! So we can pay off 8.5 days. Now what? What do we do for the next 356.5 days? Ninety percent of the alleged 4.4 million jobs created are in low paying/poor benefit sectors such as retail, hospitality, social assistance and temp services. You honestly think this will ignite our economy?
Bush was wrong in his spending like a drunk Liberal, but Barrack Hussein is even worse. He’s a European Socialist with no experience or competence. He was elected on a wave of “Hope & Change”. Instead we are shackled by Ropes and Chains of Liberal/Progressive ideology.
I think you need to reevaluate whose cranium needs to be removed from his rectum.
Try to keep up Spanky.
clwyd, you poor poor misinformed soul.
I think it is absolutely hilarious how you keep complaining about Fox News, when you obviously get your news from the radical left media.
I know this because you keep bringing up Bush's war, and acting like the only reason we went to Iraq is because Bush wanted us to go. This is something that has been spouted by the liberal media for years. And uninformed sheep believe it.
The choice to go to Iraq was one of the few things that both parties have agreed on in recent years.
Search for "what democrats said about wmds". Go to Youtube. You'll find democrat after democrat speaking about the need to take out Saddam, because they personally believe he had or was developing wmds.
Get some facts, and get educated instead of getting your facts from John Stewart.
When you're as adamant as you seem to be about incorrect information, you just look ridiculous.
I'm just cracking up over all the posts that are STILL blaming Bush.
2 parts logic hold the bs: BRILLIANT! Absolutely brilliant and logical without the b.s.
You know what I find most telling though is how none of the rightie uptighties on this vine even commented on your constructive, positive, logical and rational solution. Instead you get 2 silly comments from the spencer twins (above) whining about the past and how evil and wrong the Democrats are! Hilarious!
And not one constructive plan or solution to the problem--except from YOU a self-professed "liberal." Congratulations!
Agreed, 2 parts logic has a great idea.
GTFO!
It seems all we are accomplishing in Afghanistan is the training of our own killers. In plain English; we are teaching them the best and most efficient ways to kill us, and supplying them with the weapons to accomplish this.
Get the US troops out of there, and please quit giving the afghan military that $5 billion/year I heard about, it will turn against us. It already started, with some of the afghan soldiers joining Taliban, and taking weapons and even vehicles with them.
And may the three special ops who were cowardly killed R.I.P. God bless them and their families.
Spencer,
Your comment about FOX being bias like the other media had me in stitches. I watched yesterday and the panel of 5 had one democrat pro-liberal member and 4 ultra conservatives. The 4 used facts consisting of , " I've heard," "I was told,"" rumors are." reports are," I counted 9 anti Obama cuts out of 10. I watched NBC and so no out and out lies like FOX. The mouth piece of the Murdock rag and New Nazi republican party!
They also stated that it was Obama not the PAC that is supporting him that is responsible for the accusation that Romney was a felon and a murderer. I think he is a lot worse than that, but will wait and see!
Spencer,
I just came across something to show you how totally and utterly you are out of it if you believe FOX is only like the liberal media. The latest FOX Poll came out yesterday and has Obama with 49% support and Romney down 5% to 40%. Yet on the FOX Real Poll they have Romney leading by .1% They can't even be honest with their own poll!!!!!
We have no business in Afghanistan. One dope in here even ranted about "the Taliban" attacking us on 9/11. Likely a product of Fox News. We were originally told there were "a few hundred hard core Al Qaida" in Afghanistan. Then somehow "the Taliban" became the enemy. Then we started launching drone attacks in Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, and Afghanistan. Now we are "training Afghan police". Why? Why do they have to be trained like american police? Can't they train their own police? Truth is, we are never leaving Afghanistan, unless we are totally kicked out, like in Vietnam!
Take just a minute or two, and Google Hamid Karzai, our puppet ruler in Afghanistan. Then Google Zalmay Khalilizad, our ambassador to Afghanistan. You will find that both are former Unocal Oil company officials! This is all about pacifying the population of Afghanistan sufficiently for the pipeline to be built through their country in relative safety for the oil workers. Anything else is just BS! Of course the government isn't going to tell grieveing parents their kids died for a pipeline.
I'm pretty sure the presiboob promised to end these senseless wars in his first campaign. I can not in good conscience vote for a lying scumbag, regardless of his political affiliations.
Freedom and liberty within the United States.
Why are we in Afganistan?? Oh, I forgot...nation building! Don't understand how that slipped my mind. I thought it was because we were after OBL, who was being kept secret by our friends in Pakistan, but that was taken care of long ago.
yes. but the US isnt in the habit of just trashing a country and walking away to leave it in destitude, its people have to fight for that. then again people have been crying we went over there since day one, and after 11 years,(yaaaawn). might want to talk to the president on that promise he made?
No, they just trash our country and give it away to our enemies. Afganistan is no more our friend than the man in the moon.
Its troubling you can spend, (going on twenty years) in one place and the result is no changes..
you would not believe the refugees that have located to just my community. Muslims from these war torn areas moving in to the Virginia area by the droves. Whole families, Mom, dad and like up to 5 kids are crammed into a 2 bedroom apt. They don't speak english. The wife has a job at Walmart and they havn't even been here 3 months. This is what makes people upset. My grown son can't even get a job and this women can. They get special treatment. They will continue to be a target when they come over here. Only time will tell.
Rest In Peace my Brothers of the US Military Special Warfare (Asymmetric Warfare) Community, Condolences to the Familes.
The Termination of Osama Bin Laden was added to the US Military Mission at Afghanistan long after we went into Afghanistan weeks after the 9/11 2001 Attacks, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arxKhJIjIiY. After overthrowing the Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban, Fundamentalist Islamic Al Quada, and Islamic Jihadists those of us that survived the intense fighting in the Afghan Cities against the Militias (Army) of the Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban chased them on the Old Silk Road into Northern Iraq and were killing them with extreme prejudice (revenge for the 9/11 2001 Attacks) until the US Politicians told us to stop as not to violate the Soveriegn Nations of Takijkistan, Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran, and the Islamic Nation of Iraq.
In 2002 we were allowed under US Law 2002 Iraqi War Resolution to go after the Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban, Fundamentalist Islamic Al Quada, and Islamic Jihadists that escaped us at Afghanistan as 2002 Operation Hotel California (US Military Asymmetric Warfare Forces survivors of 2001 Afghanistan attached to the CIA's SAD/SOG augmented by the US Army 10th Special Forces Group). During the pause the Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban, Fundamentalist Islamic Al Quada, and Islamic Jihadists from Afghanistan rearmed, reequipped, reorganized, and combined themselves with the Fundamentalist Islamic Kurdistanis PKK, HPG, KGK, as fully Funded, Trained, Supported by the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran becoming Ansar Al Islam.
From 2002 to 2003 we (US Military Asymmetric Warfare Forces attached to the CIA SAD/SOG augmented by the 10th Special Forces Group and the Pro US Kurdistanis "Pesh") were fighting Fundamentalist Islamic Ansar Al Islam at the Autonomous Kurdistanis Region of Northern Iraq , just before being eliminated the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran granted Ansar Al Islam Fundamentalist Islamic Sanctuary.
The secondary mission was to capture the Iraqis Chemical Weapons Facility at Sargat, and start preparations for the US Military Conventional Warfare Forces to Liberate Iraq in accordance with US Laws, H.R.4655 "Iraqis Liberation Act of 1998" and US Senate 2002 Iraqi War Resolution.
The US Military Asymmetric Warfare Forces attached to the CIA's SAD/SOG, 10th Special Forces Group, Pro US Kurdistanis "Pesh" then seized the Northern Iraqis Oil Fields, and started to engage the Iraqis Military Forces. This caused the Iraqis Military Command to redeploy their Main Iraqis Military Forces North of Baghdad believing the Main US Military Attack would come thru US Ally Turkey, these Five Iraqis Armored and Mechanized Infantry Divisions were destroyed by the US Military Asymmetric Warfare Forces attached to the CIA's SAD/SOG, 10th Special Forces Group, and Pro US Kurdistanis "Pesh".
In 2004 those of us that survived 2001 Afghanistan, 2002-2003 Hotel California, and the 2003 Iraqis War were allow time to regroup, retrain with the replacements, etc. prior to our new mission at Afghanistan as US Military Asymmetric Mountain Warfare.
In 2006 President Bush (43) amended the US No Assassination Policy to allow the Termination of Osama Bin Laden, as protested by the US Politicians. By amending the US No Assassination Policy (and International Treaties and Agreements) any "Rogue Nation" could declare any US Politician a target for assassination. reference Harvard International Law Review, US No Assassination Policy On the Offensive, 2006.
If you want to understand Afghanistan read this, http://david393071.newsvine.com/_news/2012/03/12/10658053-afghanistan
David, I won't argue the merits of what you have to say in any way.
However, you should mention that the ONLY reason the US supported the invasion was because we were told Afghanistan was where Osama and al Qaida were supposed to be operating. Just as the Iraq WMD intel was false, al Qaida intel was hoplessly inaccurate.
The population of the US and the Coalition were pointed at the Taliban, not by your organization, but by false information and only partial reports.
But, again, the key targets for the war effort was al Qaida and Osama. Otherwise, why would we have gone in there?
Can we get out of this God-forsaken country yet?!!
We wring our hands. Please, government, we would like something right to be done. Why won't you do it? We can do nothing but for the government. We wring our hands.
WTB: Presidential candidate that wants to get us out of Afghanistan immediately and tell Karzai & his Taliban to behave or they will be glass.
America cannot survive by the tactics of the lawyer or the sales pitch of the businessman. America can only survive through the aid of a physician bound by hypocratic oath, for it is government that is our disease.
The mission objective of the war in afghanistan was, I was told, that we were there becase the taliban was hiding al-qaeda.and we were gonna punish them for it and hunt down al-qaeda. Yet the only time i've heard of us killing any al-qaeda they are in pakistan. Well I think the real reason was that, we knew where al-qaeda was (in pakistan) and we needed someplace to be able to strike from other than from the arabian sea.You cant really attack pakistan with naval forces as they are a nuclear country. They could wipe out the attack with one explosion. So. We start a war in afghanistan so we have a land base from which to hunt al-qaeda in pakistan.Pakistan can't nuke afghanistan to wipeout the U.S. forces there"fighting terrorism" and still remain righteous in public opinion, just as the U.S. can't declare war on pakistan without the posibility of it turning nuclear. This is my theory as to why we are in afghanistan. While I believe most of the things bush did were rubish,I do belive in his statement about "you are either with us or against us!" If you hide terrorists then we are comming to get them, AND PAKISTAN IS DEFINETLY HIDING TERRORISTS! YOU WILL NEVER CONVINCE ME THEY DIDNT KNOW OSAMA WAS HIDING RIGHT NEXT TO THEIR MILLITARY SCHOOL/COMPLEX! They probably had more to do with the 9/11 attacks than the taliban and more than we will ever be allowed to know. The only way we can attack pakistan is from afghanistan. There is no other way to ensure the war doesn't become a nuclear conflict that would bring all the nieghboring countries INCLUDING CHINA into a war against us. As soon as we are gone from afghanistan, al-qaeda will regain strength and momentum and we will have another 9/11 on our hands. I'm not saying I agree with the war in afghanistan but I am saying that if our presence there is the only way to strike pakistan without declaring war on them then I'm willing to accept the lesser of the two evils and favor the side that allows the terrorists to die in their homeland via drone strikes rather than here flying planes into buildings! And as for the"innocent" civilians that some times die in those strikes IF YOU HIDE THEM OR HIDE WITH THEM THEN YOU ACCEPT THE CONSIQUENCES FOR THOSE ACTIONS. I've said it before her on newsvine, I would glady sacrifice 200 "innocent" pakistani/afghanni lives to save the life of just 1 innocent american civilian, dog, cat, flea or cockroach!
As for all of those heros that we have lost in this war, I am so sorry for their families losses and thankful for their sacrifices. But we lost 4,500 soldiers on THE FIRST DAY of the war against germany. I can't help but wonder what would have happened in that war if the tellivision cameras were there to video everything that went down over there. All of Europe would probably be speaking german today. Brittain too.
See what I mean: "The wife has a job at Walmart and they havn't even been here 3 months. This is what makes people upset. My grown son can't even get a job and this women can. They get special treatment."
Did your grown son apply for a job at Walmart? BTW working at Walmart is not all that "special." Have you tried it yourself?
To Mr. Obama, When ae you going to bring our troops home? No you didn't put them the but you can bring them home. In your term as President, I believe you have done more harm to this country, than any other president. Yes, you didn't start this, and yes you went in to office with this problem, but you have not improved it. Our son's and daughter's are paying with their lives, to what avail? The Afghanistan men that we train, are killing our own troops, how do you supose this man got a uniform to wear, so he could be in a position to kill these Marines. How many have died like this that we don't know off? We are fighting a war in a country that will never change. They are set on ajhaid war and nothing will change. Yes there are some good people in the country, they want change, but they are not willing to really, really fight for freedom. We can't be a big brother to every one. Our country is falling. You know that as well as I do. The one thing that really bothers me, and I am sure I am one of many, and that is ----You are the President of the United States, and your wife is he First Lady, but neither one of you has, to my knowlege, any picture of you that I see, you do not salute the Americian Flag, That flag is the symbol of our freedom, the men and women who gave their lives for this country, in the past and in the presesnt and the future. If you can't respect that, how can you have the best interests for America. As some one else said in these posts. I still have the right to voice my thoughts and my beliefs. The United State Marines don't have that right, if they speak up, they pay with thir careers.
Most of the troops in Afghanistan are career military. Many have re enlisted once or twice in the last ten years, while we have been in Afghanistan, and are on their second or third deployments. And they have had ten years to figure out that the war is wrong, they aren't fighting for our freedom, and we don't belong there. Yet they re enlist and keep going back. So I have no sympathy for them. Sometimes, when you sign up to go to a foreign country to kill people, you get killed yourself.
At least the Afghans didn't urinate on our troops, or take any fingers or ears for souvenirs, or pose for pictures. Which makes them more civilized than the americans. They just want us out of their country. What's our excuse?
We are training Taliban infiltrators & Afghan drug addicts who can't show up without Opium in them. I can't wait for the day we all get out of the hell forsaken place they call Afghanistan. When we leave Karzai will leave also. He will be a dead man when this is over on our part. His brother is in on the Opium trade. Just wait & see because Karzai will lose his life insurance policy given to him by the US.
I saw a documentary on the drug trade over there, I was shocked! They said 90% of the opium is processed over there. Doesn't that conflict with their Relegion? People just pick and choose what they want to practice and what thye want to believe in .
We have nation building to do here and we should not be there. Bin Laden is dead. The press will show all of these horrible things that WILL happen when we leave but you know if the people aren't willing to fight enough then I guess that is just life. It has been 10 years if they are going to get it then they have or they never will.
The American government has become the Great Enabler. We have relinquished our freedoms to become irrevocably co-dependent under each new law.
America has only one pressing battle to fight and it needs all the volunteers it can muster. It's the war against big government at home.
Why are we in afghanistan ? OIL. That's why. Afghanistan is the only way to get OIL out of the black sea area with a pipeline.
The american government is lying to the people and the reasons are sinister and FINANCIAL. At some point, our politicians, news media and corportaions HAVE to be stopped. Until that day, consider yourselves FODDER for these zionist neocons ....
All the "special" training and macho military crap won't help ....
If only the American people had the back bone to stand up to a corrupt government, but they would rather watch football and eat a big Mac!
oil? but that would mean obama is in on this too.
Continuation of the Bush policy. Obama is a right wing Democrat, of there is such a animal.
Oil? LOL Same was said about Iraq but the US is the only country that does not get oil from Iraq. Hillary made that decision so the world would not think we went to war for oil. As for me, I say take all the oil and pay our war debt off, then let the countries continue killing each other as they always have. Case closed!
OIL??? Pipeline?? The Black sea is over 2,000 miles away from Afghanistan a land locked country with no oil..a pipeline would have to go through Iran to get to Afghanistan.
There is 'nothing' in Afghanistan..only dirt, rocks and chit! Why there now who knows.. USA warmongers heaven most likely.
Russia told us years ago..its a waste being there...now we know!
its all about protecting the 1% interest and thats it hell the government spends more time spying on their own people i thought the goverment was the people what a joke that is
WHAT about lil ole Kuwait, haven't heard anything about them in the media in a long time. We lost millions of dollars and military people during that conflict. Does anybody know anything about that time? Just asking, I really don't know the status on that.
We lost 6 military people in the first Iraq war and that was from a helicopter that crashed on take off. Remember, Iraq invaded Kuwait. The US was asked to protect the region and Saudi Interests. Through all the reports there were no direct conflicts with the Iraqi people.
Jym, not everyone has the same view of what "civilized" is. It is not for you to judge another culture as you have. Many of the people in Afghanistan live in fear and realize the United States will leave someday. You make these generalized statements about the entire country when things are much more complex than that. For instance, your reference to the "Silk Trail" (Silk Road) is a bit dated don't you think? The sale of opium is a problem and certainly globalization is as well, but I don't think the people themselves are as worthless as you make them out to be. You can't look at the Taliban and equate them to the entire country. People can look at gang activity in inner cities and generalize our whole population based on that but that wouldn't be fair.
jym, China has already started moving into afghanistan, they are in the mineral buisness there. already have equipment, and started. sry you missed that story about 3 months or so ago. as for taking over... we never went there to take over, just put in a new interm government to help prevent more terrorist hiding spots/ training camps. The Vietnam war isnt much different than this one in respect, its a political gangbang, that our troops pay the price. thus, if we bring afghanistan "up to speed" as far as schooling, it would be a good thing, but it will not save the world as you think. it would give the people there however, a chance to be more productive industry wise, and that IS a good thing for any nation, because it builds pride.
diligaf... you too either missed the news during the first 2 yrs of Iraq, or too young to remember? Saadam ruled with an iron fist. people were beat, and tortured in public, and in prison, only because their ruler was paranoid someone was out to get him, man, woman, or child. he kept other religions in poverty, and brutality. he also killed an entire village... no conflicts within the people of Iraq? you jest!
"in which Afghan police or soldiers turn their guns on their Western mentors, have seriously eroded trust between the allies."
I don't see experts on Iraqi wars, Syrian civil war or even those who blew trumpets before starting these wars posting much while situations are adverse!
In Afghanistan, Pakis have backstabbed the US and NATO forces big time. Half of NATO forces deaths are due to ungrateful and backstabbing Pakis.
When the NATO forces were entering Kandahar in 2001, Pakis airlifted key al-Qaida, Taliban, ISI and others militants by back door from Kandahar.
This includes Mullah Omar, Osama and many including Paki Haqqani militant network leaders.
Hope people remember about Pakis sheltering Osama.
These Paki Islamic religious Nazis don't bother about their people and they are into reckless killing games in the name of jihad.
Drone attacks are not enough and to reduce NATO forces losses, Paki militant areas should be carpet bombed just like 1991 Iraqi war.
Or else just get out right now.
"Or else just get out right now"
Seems like the better option mate. They don't want us there. We (Civilians) dont want to be there. Our democratically elected leadership is ignoring what we want. They tell us what we want to here when they are running for office, then go back on their word once they are in office. But hey, that's democracy right?
I agree Jonathan. The Pakis are and have been the enablers in the region and beyond for years. I agree totally with the carpet bombing scenario with a little viral, bio-weapon thrown in to boot. Nothing deadly, just a virus which would keep them vomiting and crapping for a couple of weeks to weaken them. Then go into the region with a massive ground assault and finish them with a 5.56 round to the head while they're looking at you. Just like what they gave our troopers there.
I was really surprised to hear of this scenario with three of our best trained men getting wasted by a bunch of sh-t fingered backstabbers. No one should have been allowed in that meeting with weapons in their hands and we should have had people standing right outside locked and loaded seeing how none of these filth can be trusted.
Jonathan, well stated, my friend. Four star post.
For the past ten thousand years these cretins have been fighting and killing each other over who loves what dumb-assed god 'which- way- is- the- right' way. And in ANOTHER ten thousand years they will STILL be fighting and killing each other. It's a tribal mentality which in ingrained in them.
Nothing will change. No amount of intervention on our part will cause it to change. The only thing we CAN change is how many more names we want on our war memorials. THAT'S IT.
HOTTICKET: Thanks a lot!
Hope others join us in the battles in Syria, Iran and other places just to make the ungrateful and backstabbing Saudis winners. We did it with Iraqi wars!
British invented Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. US has sustained them on the map.
Just examine what we got from the backstabbers and ungrateful seventh century desert mindset bigoted barbarians and beasts.
Our economies are ruined; huge numbers are unemployed (it pains me to state this); many families are shattered; many are on streets; we have huge debts (can you imagine from China) and even travel in the US has become a torture.
This is what we got for taking their sides!
NO WARS AT LEAST FOR A DECADE.
Let the Islamic religious Nazis fight among themselves and kill each other. We should keep miles away from them.
HOTTICKET: My dear friend. That place had a thriving culture, tradition and customs.
Only after the followers of Islamic cult set their feet in that place, that place became raping, stealing, killing, kidnapping and hating fields like other places.
Just look at the US itself. Dearborn, Michigan, had just a sample of things to come in future!
Islamic religious Nazis like Taliban, al-Qaida could not even tolerate Buddha's statue.
Where's Waldo: It should be like 1991 Iraqi wars, with least death of soldiers.
I am against losing even a single soldier in the dirtiest and filthiest Islamic and tribal religious swamps.
President Ronald Reagan, honoring Afghan "freedom fighters" at the White House in 1983: "The Afghan Mujaheddin are the moral equivalent of the Founding Fathers of America."
---------
"To watch the courageous Afghan freedom fighters battle modern arsenals with simple hand-held weapons is an inspiration to those who love freedom."
- U.S. President Ronald Reagan, March 21, 1983
Ronnie was a big piece of lying S^#T. A typical, Republican, terrible president.....unless you were rich! The only thing he ever did was to steal from the working man and give it to his rich buddies. We lost jobs and debt with him at the helm.
this was when they (afghans) were fighting Russia's invasion (unwarranted).
dont act like when a decent party gets power it then turns corrupt. look at obama and the dems...
Mossy..Look at em both because they mirror each other and are both corrupt. The two party system is against the people. The last GOOD president we had was JFK and not a good one since.
The Innocent,
You really do not know the difference between the 1990s Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban and the 1980s Pro US Afghan Muhajeen do you?
Go read this, http://david393071.newsvine.com/_news/2012/03/12/10658053-afghanistan
I was involved with Operation Cyclone and know the difference from firsthand experience; NOT baloney written from non participants based on information from other non participants. Involved with the "Middle East" (Islam), Islamic Africa, Islamic Asia, etc. since the 1980s as US Military Asymmetric Warfare (aka Special Warfare) Officer (College level Languages Farsi, Arabic, Pashtu; Culture Islam).
LOL. Do you know who pushed for US (Covert) Involvement with Afghanistan during the USSR 40th Army Occupation? Can you say Senator Charles Wilson, Democrat, Texas, aka "Charlie Wilson's War" (Afghanistan).
David...Your logic and experience is lost on these keyboard warriors....good job, thanks, you tried but as ususal politics prevented a completed mission....been there done that, RVN 69,70,71,72....
sry dude, but you are 110% WRONG-O! the economy was in a shambles when Ronnie stepped up to plate. He brought actual JOB CREATION to the country.... unlike welfare fraud Carter & Nobama the Clown. that man put the country in the right direction, and a lot of us from that time, went out, got a job, and learned a trade. be lucky if you can find a trade job today.... that isnt Ronnie's fault, nor Bush's.... that is Nobama's, and he even said so himself. well, right before he went back to playing the blame game again. EVERYONE's FAULT but Nobama's. the tool who cant , couldnt get his own party to back him.
i think he also had more people from around the world attend his funeral than i would almost have to say, any one to this day. even those leaders who didnt like him, OR the US had more respect and admiration in their little pinky, than the Clown in office will ever see.... THAT i will put ANY... AAANNNY amount of money on the table as a bet... you name the amount, due to the clown, i'll take what i can get on a sure bet, lol.
Three more American soldiers died for nothing. Nothing.
Trillions of dollars wasted and thousands of lives destroyed. Now, their parents, spouse, and children have nothing but grief and memory...... and an American flag that was used to drape over the their coffins.
When will the America people rise up and over-throw the Military Industrial Complex, war lovers, and war mongers who have take-over the US government and perpetrated these global wars in the name of the American people?
Americans are just sacrificial lambs.
the taliban started this by flying air liners into American buildings, WTC, Pentagon, and one on its way to the Whitehouse before it was taken down by hero's (passengers). forgot about this, or not old enough to remember like so many?
the US was never one when it got onvolved to bitch slap and run.
thus, is there a colum that states these guys died for nothing? did their family member say this? did one of the troops killed say this in his last words? YOU say he died for nothing, and you disrespect that honor. they fight for our country, just as millions in the past have. i think you have no clue to honor or duty for your country.
Well, we sure got "BITCH SLAPPED" in Vietnam!... Then we ran! Right from the top of the Embassy. Should have never been there to start with but again, we were lied to, by our own people who used our trust against us. I am a disabled vet but how can I honor a government that LIES TO ME????
@wall street
Not thousand of lives destroyed...millions.
NaughtMossy said:
How old are you? Check your facts friend, not even George Bush or Dick Cheney claimed the taliban flew planes into the WTC. Our government claimed it was Saudis.
The Taliban offered to put Bin Laden on trial, but we wanted an easy war so the deal was off (plus there was the small detail about the necessity of the US government presenting the evidence they had that Bin Laden did it - which to this day they have never shown anyone not even you). It was either kiss our behinds and hand Bin Laden over for torture or war. Would anyone with a spec of honor turn someone over for torture, especially without the offering of a shred of evidence? Bush knew they couldnt break their honor, HE DIDNT WANT THEM TO, Bush wanted war and no presentation of evidence.
NaughtyMossy, are you old enough to remember that you once thought Saddam was involved in 911? More than 95% of American soldiers invading Iraq thought so, a vast majority of Americans at the time of Shock and Awe believed so also. Bush, Cheney and the corporate media were all responsible for that bit of brainwashing.
"Americans are just sacrificial lambs." Don't you mean the American military? THEY are truly the 'sacrificial lambs'!
well I guesss another fed up military guy will lose it and go off base and go blasting up villiages again. Don't you hate it when that happens? These people get whatever they deserve in return. Why do they allow pakis to keep coming here and opening stores and taking jobs from our communities? They get free stamps in their pass-ports. Sicken. They need to deport all those people here, burn down the temples and mosques and be done with it.
FATCAT!...Why don't you go to the funeral and tell the families the same crap your spewing here....A$$hole.
There is an error in your headline. It should read "Three American Occupation Troops Killed In Afghanistan".
How could this have happened? Obama promised to get us out of Afghanistan. Oh wait. He didn't. In fact, we just signed an agreement to remain in Afghanistan until 2024, at which time we will sign an agreement to remain another ten years.
Anyway, sometimes when you go to another country to kill people, you get killed yourself.
Easy answer to stop American soldiers from getting killed in afghanistan. Get out of afghanistan and bring our troops home as there is no valid reason for the US Military to be there in the first place.
If some foreign military invaded my country I would kill them and try to drive them out.
Just another on going nightmare started by W. And still taking American lives. And if you elect MitWitt he will have us in a war with Iran in 6 months. America needs to stay the hell out of the middle east and start taking care of America for a change. Why the hell do we have to be the the worlds police force?
Because the world is connected. Because we are leaders of the free world. Because we face enemies of human civilization so grotesque that would make 9/11 look like nothing. Your kind of people have no moral compass and understanding of history. Fortunately, our troops do and we will do what we have to do to continue to make the world and America a safe place.
sasss31..The leader of the free world??? What is that? We have drones tooking at us, wiretaps without a warrant,TSA GRABBING OUR WOMEN,CIA, NSA,DEA,FBI and a supreme court that chooses a cooporation over a citized...Who is free??? The USA isn't creating a free world, they are destroying everything for money and murdering millions...WAKE UP and look around. We have never had a nation threaten us except the Cuban crisis yet we bombed 72 countries since WWII.
Took the words right out of my mouth, Robbie.
Thats why we are so messed up. A melting pot? Yeah. Everytime we go and blow somebody up we allow the refugees to come here, vietnam, japan, bosnia, the list goes on, thats another way we end up with homeland terrorist. Those people come here and years later plot to do us harm, or bring family memebers over willing to do it. And yall are worried about a few field hands from Mexico "taking our jobs" They aren't blowing up buildings and killing innocent people with car bombs, like these real outsiders. They get stamps in their pass-ports by us.
Our resolve and might is high. The terrorists will be defeated. Afghanistan will have a better future. We should be proud of these brave troops who have given the ultimate sacrifice for making the world a better and much safer place.
Hogwash these people have been waring for thousands of years. What makes you think America can change this?
People want to live with human dignity. In Afghanistan, women are no longer stoned to death and 40% of Afghan girls receive an education. The terrorists want to disrupt the progress of Afghanistan by committing acts of terror. We don't reward terror. The future of Afghanistan is bright. There will be setbacks of course. But the sacrifices we make today will ensure that a repeat of history doesn't take place. What happened the last time we neglected Afghanistan after the Soviet war? The Taliban later filled the vacuum and Bin Laden came to Afghanistan and was protected and aided by the Taliban. 9/11 happened. We must always look at things in the long term and learn from the perils of history. Terrorism is what terrorists do to try to change our policies. We must resist these acts of terror and stand on the side of the Afghani people. The vast majority of Afghans are grateful and appreciative of our sacrifices. The world is a much better and safer place because of our sacrifices worldwide. Whether humanitarian aid in Africa to military conflict in the Middle East, our morals and our virtue has provided the people of the world a chance for tomorrow. Nothing is easy, but we should be thankful for the sacrifices our troops have made and continue to make.
sasss31..Any your government is destroying what you want every day. You are living in a fantasy world if you believe your politicans.
Sass31..Sorry to rain on your parade and I don't know what you hear or see in the States but that is not what we see and hear in Australia. Afghanistan's future is far from bright and as for the women issues nothing has changed. Ask the girls that did go to school until the Taliban threw acid in their faces. They have burnt down 3 girls schools that we have rebuilt. The women have gone back to wearing the burqas, they are terrified the Taliban will attack them if they are not fully covered. Where do you get your info from??? When we leave the Taliban will walk right back in and "remove" all signs of any Western influence...from people to infrastructure..it will revert back to what it was when time began. Some people cannot be changed, saved or anything else you may like to do, or think...they are what they are and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Yes we have all sacrificed our soldiers blood and time will tell for what...For me it will have been for nothing, as Afghanistan will revert back to a "closed society" that hates the West and anything we stand for. The people who do like the West will suffer in silence as it has always been.
Do we really want to turn Afghanistan into the US? Would they start invading country after country like us? Would their politicians and generals sell themselves to the highest bidding warmongering corporation? Would they stop believing in a fair and open justice system? What would the Afghan version of Gitmo look like? How about military tribunals? Would you want an American to be stolen away from the streets of the US and put into an Afgan version of Gitmo? Be careful what you wish for, dont think you want to turn Afghanistan into the US.
I want a shot of whatever sass is drinking
What are you smoking, Sass? Turn off Faux News. Afghanistan is all about pacifying the people so a pipeline can be built through ther country, that they do not want!
sasss31..Can I have what you smoke?
Three soldiers were killed not troops. A troop is a group of soldiers.
Uh no your wrong a troop is one check your facts Bud!
Jim,
YOU are wrong.
A troop is a military unit, originally a small force of cavalry, subordinate to a squadron and headed by the troop leader. In many armies a troop is the equivalent unit to the infantry section or platoon. Exceptions are the Royal Horse Artillery and the US Cavalry, where troop refers to an infantry company or artillery battery.
Individuals are soldiers. A group of soldiers can make up a troop.
Think of troop in the simplest of terms; such as a Boy Scout Troop. Now, is a Boy scout troop made up of 1 scout or many scouts?
An idiot is someone who gets wrapped-around-the-axle about what a troop is!
How one guy kills many special op people?? Does not compute!!
mimmi.. said it right. i will repeat..
This is a way of life for these people they have been like this for eons. Why is it that it is always America who has to sacrfice its blood for these animals? Get out and let them kill each other like they have been doing since the time of christ. America needs to take care of America for a change.
Yep. You saved me some typing. Exactly what i was going to say.
This is Husssan oabama's war ,, just like Kennedy started the Vietnam mess, it was Johnson's war..
only Nixon ended the war as he promised.. look what the powers that be did to him!!
"He lied to us on TV"!! all politicians lie...What about the WHOPPERS told since Nixon??
Clinton got impeached and disbarred for his lies..
obama's lies would take many pages to list...transparent and NO taxes, the troops will be home by Christmas, Guantanamo will be closed , the American system has never worked, you didn't build that, Executive orders do not require Congress approval, you will not loose you house to foreclosure.........on&on&on&on,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Evening..Sorry to hear that 3 US soldiers have been killed....we to here in Australia had the same thing happen last year....and we lost 3 of our own. This is going to be the way it is I am afraid, we cannot tell the good from the bad Afghan soldiers. New Zealand have just brought home 2 of their fallen soldiers last night...devastating for all....blessings to the family and friends of all the fallen from across the Pacific.
I am there as I write this. I can't for the life of me see what we are doing here.
Stuffed if I know airborn....waste of lives, money and resources..always was and always will be....We have lost 33 Aussie soldiers and that is 33 to many for us....
Airborn7..Keep your head down, watch your back and return safe...from an OLD soldier. B careful what you say online, the militarty spies on their own.
Airborn7 Stay safe and I hope you return to your loved ones where ever they maybe..blessings to you from us in Australia....if you see any Aussies over there tell them "gidday" from us all in the Great Southern Land.
I believe that, as most of the US Military Conventional Warfare Forces have no clue, since they remain isolated from the Afghans living on secure US Military Bases.
Less than a month ago we were at Northeast Afghanistan conducting US Military Asymmetric Mountain (above 6,000 feet) Warfare while living with the Afghans (years of consecutive tours).
Airborn7.....I pray that you make it home safely. My son is headed your way. He'll be there in a month and a half. I am military as well. We just did a dignified remains transfer at our base yesterday. I grieve for all the families who have lost a loved one in that crap hole of a country. I can't imagine in the depths of my mind of this happening to our family. Anyways.....KEEP YOUR CLIPS FULL, YOUR HEAD DOWN AND WATCH YOUR SIX. Roger.
Almost supper time here in Northern Thailand..80 degrees and raining. What a smart move I made when I left the USA and retired here 10 years ago and never had a bad day since...Paradise! Inexpensive and friendly people, a place where you can build a new 3 bd home for under $45,000. My elect bill has never been over $60 and I have a/c. Food very reasonable and great.
and all the young boys you desire.
Last I heard, they were all in Tampa Bay.
when do you board your flight to here?
I was told by a buddy that came back from Afghanistan :
If God were to give the world an enema......
He would stick the nozzle in Afghanistan.
And soldiers from the US and it's allies are dying there.......
My son had his third tour in Afghanistan. He said that the Afghan culture would serve as an excellent justification for genocide.
Jym.....my son is headed back there for his second tour soon. I am afraid for him. His mom would be devastated beyond comprehension if he doesn't make it back safety. With all the backstabbing "green on blue" incidents, it has become all that much more dangerous. As to the comment by your son....it's funny that my son said the same thing. I could write so much here, but it only echoes many comments already made. If he is still there please tell him to keep his clips full, head down and watch his six. God speed to his safe return.
Time to shoot Karzai in the back and get the hell out of there. Afghanistan IS the enemy.
God bless these soldiers, I hope their families can find some closure and pride in their honor. Also God bless all of the men and women of the military.
Semper Fidelis my brothers.
Yes.
stories like these show why we a re wasting our time over there. Yet we continue to think we can trust these people- what a waste of money- corporate wars of the modern era- I guess lobbiests are getting their monies worth
yeah, we don't have any mass shootings over here.
Really, how about researching Afghanistan as a 20th Century "Little America" as built up by the US and USSR from the 1950s to 1979.
After the 1990s Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban massacred the 1980s Pro US Afghan Muhajeen (20,000 to 50,000), the Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban destroyed everything that was "Non Islamic", "Western", "Modern", etc. at Afghanistan. And the lights literally went out at Afghanistan when they destroyed the Electric Power Stations plunging Afghanistan from the 20th Century to the Stone Ages.
Rule #1: KIll the aggressor who is murdering your people.
Rule #2: Just cause he's got bigger guns doesnt mean caca.
Rule #3: Read rule #1.
Just who the hell are we to go atatcking countries and then calling their patriots 'terrorists?'
Trust those people?!!!
Hey, stealing people's oil/gas/mineral resources can cost you your life.
Remember cattle rustling, claims jumping in the Old West?
Bam! Bam! Bam! And you're are gone goose!'
The blood is on your hands Obama!
Jihadism never dies, idiot.
damn you, obama, for starting the war in afghanistan!
and the one in America.
And in other news recently....
August 7th,2012. Gunmen kill 19 Christians during Nigerian Church service.
July 10th,2012. In Nigeria, 50 Christians burned alive inside pastor’s home by Muslims. The group would continue to attack government officials and Christians. It said Christians “will not know peace again” if they do not accept Islam.
What a peaceful lot they are....
Hey, maybe going into cannibal country and trying to sell them McDonald's is bad for your health, huh Pilgrims?
Warning: Proselyting can be bad for your health...
REALly??? Guess you would know...how's the weather in Iran today???
Where are the American protests?? This is pathetic that we stay there and their government claims "rogue" forces did it!? This is BS!
Your right where are the left wing nuts, I am a conservative and I think we need to come home, Why hasn't Obama been called on the carpet all they show is his interview about killing bin laden how about these soldiers that are sitting ducks, where is the outrage, maybe we should talk about another gold metal bring our troops home and give them the gold metals! Bad war and it is being swept under the carpet but hey it alright if it obama! Right he's cool all hail obama!
Which is evidently the object of the Taliban to begin with. Security, Security, Security; No weapons allowed or a backup bodyguard might be in order here. Realizing arm-chairing is easy after the fact, but am surprised that one so high in the Special Forces could allow this to happen. When I served they were mistrustful of anyone who looked like they could be the enemy
Yassar. killing the aggressor has always been popular among a country's patriots. Assad needs some of these 'kick ass' Taliban warriors, donchathink Pilgrims?
Unfortunely, due to the shortages of US Military Asymmetric Warfare Forces (aka Special Warfare), there are many that are coming into the US Military Asymmetric Warfare Forces with no Operational Experience. Before we used to pick and choose from the US Military Conventional Warfare Forces potential candidates with years of US Military experience (and maturity) before being sent to the various assessment schools (US Army Air Assault, then US Army Airborne School, US Army Ranger School (and some time with the Support and Operational Ranger Battalions), then to their Branch's "Special Warfare" School (US Army Special Forces, USAF Special Operations (STT), USMC MARSOC, USN BUD/S, Agency); if they made assessment to the Teams, after a few years of Operational Experience (actual low risk low intensity Missions), then they would be further trained (College Level Language(s) and Culture(s) for their Area(s) of Operation(s)) and other special training. Finally, they would be assessed to my Operational Teams (usually attached to the CIA's SAD/SOG).
Total time before, if starting at age 18-20 is age 35 (no Language(s) or Culture(s)); this is no longer the case. So now we have fresh out of School (no experience) thrown on the Teams, as now a days you can go from Boot Camp (Basic Training) to Individual Training to Asymmetric Warfare Schools (no real time in Service other than schools).
David, I understand all of that, but the men killed in this incident were far from being inexperianced by any stretch of the imagination.
Personally I find the fault to lie with our own restrictions on our forces (ROE for one); and our one-sided compromise with the Afghan Government. Really, wasting money on unappreciative governments is getting to be a bad and costly habit; but when those wasted dollars change to wasted lives.... It's time to rethink our commitment.
