Powerful earthquakes strike Iran, killing at least 250, destroying villages

Two larges earthquakes hit northwestern Iran on Saturday. NBC's Brian Williams reports.

Updated at 2:40 a.m. ET: Two powerful earthquakes struck northwest Iran Saturday, killing more than 250 people and injuring about 2,000 in northwest Iran, where rescuers combed the rubble of villages through the night into Sunday, state media reported.

The U.S. Geological survey measured the first quake, which struck 37 miles northeast of the city Tabriz, at 3:25 p.m. local time (6:55 a.m. ET) with a 6.4 magnitude. The second quake, which occurred 11 minutes later, struck an area about 30 miles northeast of Tabriz with a 6.3 magnitude.

Residents and rescue workers search for survivors in the rubble of a house in a village near the town of Varzaqan, after twin earthquakes hit northwestern Iran on Saturday.

Most of the casualties were in outlying villages, Reuters reported.

The second quake struck near the town of Varzaghan. "The quake was so intense that people poured into the streets through fear," Fars news agency said of the town.

A local official in the area told Iranian Students' News Agency that six villages had been completely destroyed and 60 villages had been 50 to 70 percent destroyed.

A local provincial official urged people in the region to stay outdoors during the night for fear of aftershocks, according to the official IRNA news agency. ISNA said there had been more than 40 aftershocks, measuring in magnitude between 4.5 and 5.0, according to Reuters.

Reuters reported that more than 200 people in the town of Varzaghan and Ahar had been rescued from under the rubble of collapsed buildings, an official IRNA news agency said, quoting a local official.

"Unfortunately there are still a number of people trapped in the rubble but finding them is very difficult because of the darkness," national emergency head Gholam Reza Masoumi was quoted as saying by Fars.

An Iranian medic attends to an injured woman as people gather outside a hospital in the town of Ahar, Iran, after a two strong earthquakes and multiple aftershocks hit northwestern Iran on August 11, 2012.

Photographs posted by Iranian news websites showed bodies lying on the floor in the corner of a white-tiled morgue in the town of Ahar, and medical staff, surrounded by anxious residents, treating the injured in the open air as dusk fell.

Other images showed collapsed buildings and cars flattened by rubble.

A map shows the location of the two earthquakes that hit Iran Saturday evening.

Local media reports said the earthquakes had broken telephone communications to many villages, making rescue efforts harder. Lawmaker Abbas Falah said people in the region are in need of bread, tents and drinking water, Reuters reported.

The hospital in Varzaghan, staffed by just two doctors and suffering from shortages of medical supplies and food, was struggling to cope with about 500 injured, the Mehr news agency reported.

Tabriz is a major city and trading up far from Iran’s oil producing areas and known nuclear facilities. Though buildings in the city are substantially built, homes and businesses in Iranian villages are often made of concrete blocks of mud brick that can crumble and collapse in a strong quake.

Iran is situated amid several major fault lines and is well known for its long history of devastating earthquake activity. The last major earthquake, which struck the city of Bam in December 2003, had a 6.6 magnitude and killed more than 30,000 people – about a quarter of its population – and injured an additional 30,000.

Now is the time fir us as a nation to show the Iranian people that we are a humanitarian and peace loving people and in spite of their leader, Mr I'madingynutjob, we provide as much aid to the people as possible. It could go a LONG way in furthering our interests (and its the right thing to do)

Since we're not allowed to go into the country to give aid directly, anything we give them will only go to the govt. We might get some traction if we gave it to the Red Crescent.

Iranians are overwhelmingly pro-American (or they were no more than five years ago). Only the leadership is anti-american and that is because we are supportive of Israel (and also put them there).

Try not following the crap fed to you by propaganda artists from Fox News and MSNBC.

Go to google earth and check out Iran yourself. It is a beautiful and very modern country.

I can't believe how dumb people are. Either the people posting on here are government shills or just so misinformed that there's no hope for America anymore.

1. Iranians are not uniformly anti-american. 90% of them are Pro-USA.

2. The leadership in Iran is at odds with Israel, not the US. Only through our connection do they have any interest in the US.

3. Not a single official inspection has ever showed a tactical nuclear capability in Iran (or the means or a program to develop one). NOT ONE!

4. It was the CIA and Mossad that deposed the Shah and worked to set up the current leadership (just like with Saddam.

5. WE ARE A NET EXPORTER OF OIL!!!! We don't need to be involved in the middle east as nation, either for existential reasons or energy reasons. It's just money for defense companies and oil companies.

Every time Americans call for the invasion of Iran, they are acting like puppets on a string.

Who in the hell, are all of you people talking about "we can give... we cannot give..... we shall do this... we shall do that'? Who the hell are you folks? First "WE" dont have the right to decide anything in this matter. This is a foreign policy matter. The average you and me has not a dam decision to make. And I'm so glad that we dont. Look at all of the bickering! Most of you wouldn't give your next door neighbor an egg to feed their child.... and here you all are talking about giving aid to another country. As it states in the Bible: Clean the log out of your own eye before attempting to get the splinter out of someone else's. Get off of your computers and join the real world. Yes but know this, the CIA with orders directly from the U.S. Govt's real authorities are directed to cause a Jasmine revolt within Iran just as the CIA has done in Tanesia, Egypt, Lybia and now in Syria. The CIA is ordered to cause instability and political collapse in all the nations that are allies to Iran so that Iran is totally isolated and vulnerable and thus easier to take out. China however has commited itself to the total protection of Iran and even went as far to say that if the U.S. attacks Iran then China promises to counter attack the U.S. . This is the ONLY reason the corrupt U.S. military industrial complex has not YET attacked Iran. China could easily poverize the U.S. and the U.S. intel knows this which is why the U.S. is now breaking its neck to apease China's market but the Chinese know this and are better chess players. Result: Iran will remain un-touched. The real enemy of the U.S. population is the U.S. intel agencies and their authorities, the military industrial complex who own and opperate the U.S. official Govt and ALL its parts, and in order for the U.S. population to be free again, these entities will have to be uprooted and removed. The new U.S. young population know this and are banding together with technology to plan just that and they are real about this new movement. U.S. intel agencies control EVERYTHING that the public is allowed to see and hear in the mass media which tells us that atleast around 70% of what we see as reality is nothing more than a programed reality from the intel agencies. Now the U.S. intel agenicies are being watched and analyzed by high tech population malitias using their own technologies against them. The U.S. high tech population is becoming more alert and pro-active and are now flirting with the idea of a high tech and low tech confrontation with these parasites with the aim of permanent removal however bloody it gets. We people of the U.S. will cure our country's social parasitic cancer to rid the world of any further anti humanitarian activity from these sources and the rest of the world will love us for it.

As a human being, it's sad about the earthquake, but these peple live in a war zone that they actually instigate , so sending them money is giving it to the government, you know they won't help their people, and it's giving them a means to buy more weapons and ammunition to keep up their idiotic ideas, and war against Israel. And another thing these people don't and never will appreciate any help that anyone sends. remember they think they're right and everyone else is wrong, so it will be a waste of time.

@VonBraun

Are you serious? Have you served in the US military? Have you been with the companies that develop weapon systems for our military? Have you been to countries that we are in and seen what not even a 1/4 of our military might can do? Guess what, I have. US Army 11B 25ID. China wouldn't have a chance to win. The only thing they have is numbers, and that won't help. They don't have a navy that can compete with ours, they don't have an Air Force that can touch ours, our Marines and Army soldiers wouldn't have to worry about the numbers they have when the AF and Navy get done with the first phase of a blitzkrieg. So please enlighten me, on how they would beat us. Now on to the main subject I don't see anything wrong with helping these people as long as we make sure the people of this country know it was us that helped and we are not their enemy. We are an enemy of their government. Let them see we mean no harm and only good. We don't wish to go in there and kill their people. But again I say do this if and only if there is a way to make sure they know it was us Americans that did it. It's good to see many people saying we should help, because war is ugly I've done and seen it. Let war be the last thing. Best Regards to all of you

Just like here in America. We don't always agree with what our "leaders" want/do. Don't' blame the entire country(ours/theirs) for what a few f-heads do.

4. It was the CIA and Mossad that deposed the Shah and worked to set up the current leadership (just like with Saddam.

This is NOT a fact, it is what some people believe, others believe otherwise. If you know anything about Khomeini's life, you know that he had been causing riots for many years (starting in early 1960s), long before the revolution. He started "causing trouble" for the government as early as the 1940s. And if you know anything about Jimmy Carter, you also know that he spent a lifetime fighting for human rights, and that voluntarily put a dictator in power would be totally out of character for him.

Personally I believe that people, and Carter (who decided NOT to do anything to help Shah stay in power, except a last minute effort), were fooled by Khomeini.

Note also that it is Britain who wanted Shah overthrown, not the US, they asked the US for help many times, and the US refused.

I also remember a quote from General Huyser (who had been sent to Iran before the end of the revolusion), about his mission, which is "one that started with desperation and disunity and ended in disaster", if his mission had been to overthrow Shah, as some believe, it sure didn't sound like this mission was a success. If his mission had been to overthrow Shah, this quote wouldn't make any sense. Personally I believe that his mission was to help Shah's troops, and to stop the revolution.

This is Khomeini, supposedly a human rights defender, before Shah was overthrown, as you can see he was charismatic and seemed to be on people's side. After the revolution tho he crushed anyone who disagreed with him. Human Rights in Iran! Khomeini's words: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4Kt7eYPtEQ&feature=plcp

Jeff, and others that feel the same, I hope you don't ever wind up in a situation in your life where you need food, shelter, and water desperately for survival, and someone throws your very words back in your face.

True their are good and bad people in this world, but do not have bad thoughts and punish all just because of the evil in the world. These are family's, just like yours, what if your loved ones were traveling in another country tomorrow and this happened? Would you pray for aid to come and dig them out and give them a drink of water. Just my opinion! Just my strong beliefs!

I know we have become a country of haters towards those who disagree with us even fellow Americans but when there has been a disaster, it is not the time to say we hate you so to hell with you. Our own country needs to get back to what made is a great country. I suppose those who are happy Iran had an earth quake and hundreds have died are probably Christians who have once again shown how hypocritical they really are. As I keep saying religion creates hatred and murders.

As I keep saying religion creates hatred and murders.

That sounds wonderful, Winkler, except that atheist/agnostic/communist regimes have killed FAR more than ALL religions combined. No communist regime has been more murderous than the People's Republic of China alone. Mao and his followers have slaughtered or starved to death an estimated 65 million Chinese since 1949. Here's a great book about Communism and death.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0674076087/theamericanre-20

And just to clarify for anyone that wants to bring up the Nazis murdering 6 million Jews, that was NOT done in the name of "religion" or "Jesus" by the Nazis. They saw them as a RACE (a very inferior one), not a RELIGION. And it's rather ironic that the far left in general hates on the "Jews" and claims they are greedy and own/control all the wealth. What's ironic about it is that the "Jews" overwhelmingly vote Democrat, like the current DNC head blabbermouth Debbie Whassername.

    Hitler was Catholic not atheist

Hitler was a hypocrit, a fake catholic, he ignored the 10 commandments, and Jesus' teachings as well. He is the one who attacked other countries (even after having signed peace treaties), and millions of people were killed and brought into war because of his thirst for power. If you want an example of a true catholic who has faith, think Mother Theresa for example.

It is too bad, but there is nothing we can do. You can't aid the people of a hostile nation without aiding the enemy government as well. Every child we feed or blanket we send frees up more of their resources to go into building an atom bomb to make the next 9-11 happen to a whole city. Sad though it may be, it is to our benefit that their people should suffer, because it makes their government divert resources away from killing us. Allah is good and merciful, and the wicked now suffer His righteous vengeance.

Here is something for you to know about Muslim. Muslim and Christian believe in the same god, yes hard to accept, but that is the fact.

Both Muslim and Christian also share the "Old Testament", the only different is Muslim doesn't believe in Jesus and have Mohammed instead.

Muslim is created based on the Bible and share half of the teaching of the Bible in Quran.

Bible = Old Testament + New Testament.

Quran = Old Testament + Mohammed teaching.

God and Allah are NOT the same. Allah is a vengeful god who 1) rules rules through instilling fear in its followers. (And he does not exist.) God is love and runs His theocracy with love. Islam does believe in the Old Testament, but they believe that the promises given to Abraham came through his son, Ishmael, who was born to his bondservant, Hagar. The promises God gave Abraham were clearly given to be fulfilled through Isaac who was born to his wife, Sarah. There is a HUGE difference between God and Allah.

You do know that Allah translate into English as God, right?

Funny you say he is not the same and yet there are plenty of people who still quote "Old Testament" for their excuses to hate gay marriage and such.

Take a look around, most Christian still use "Old Testament" for lots of thing. It's a double standard to use this version of God whenever it is inconvenience and denounce him for another version when you don't like it.

It is incorrect to translate anything into English when it comes to understanding the true meaning of Bible. If a person wants to know the true name of God then the Old Testament language of Hebrew should be used. In the Old Testament there is no Allah. There is only One True God in the Old Testament and He has the name of Yahweh. The Bible has been translated into English for those who understand English and into other languages for those who understand other languages. But the true reference is Hebrew for the Old Testament and Greek for the New Testament. There is only One True God, the Creator of Heaven and Earth, the Maker of all things. As for references about gays, I do not believe I was discussing this at all. How did gay marraige even get into this conversation? I was merely explaining that the true God of the Old and New Testament is NOT the same as Allah.

Dorood Afsan. Thank you for your nice message. People here need more messages like yours, and eventually they will realise that a lot of people in Iran do like America. They see Ahmadinejad and Khamenei and they think iranians are all like them, but it is not true. Iran is a beautiful country, with great people. God bless.

So, Yahweh now, not God. Got it. Allah is God in Arabic and Yahweh is God in Hebew, but I guess you don't like it.

Your post doesn't make sense. There is only one God, you try so hard to separate them, but the fact remains that Muslim believe in the same God as you do, the only different is they don't believe in Jesus Chris, which the main separation between Christian and Muslim.

You can try all you want, but the fact is still fact. The god in the "Old Testament" is the same God for Christian and Muslim. You can't fight fact or try to change it, it has been mentioned for thousands of years.

Muslims favorite march past is "death to infidel".

So lesser number of people marching!

My major problem is that these people should have cleaned some Sunni Muslims before dying!

They will be doing Allah's job too.

The ancient Greeks called Zeus a "god" as well, that doesn't mean he is the same as the Judeo-Christian God. Semantics are the last refuge of the deceiver. The Allah of the Koran is an evil bastard who sent Mohammed to proudly declared himself a pedophile and proponent of genocide, while the God of the Bible is a loving father who sent Jesus to redeem us. A rose, by any other name.

You can say what you want, but the true God of the Bible is no way anything like Allah and they are NOT the same in any manner at all. Even the things they teach are different. How can they teach different things and still be the same? That makes no sense at all. You need to study your world religions more closely.

Except both Christian and Muslim believe in the same god from "Old Testament", that makes them the same god.

Zeus has nothing to do with this because it is from another region and different period.

Like I said here, research about the Muslim before you say anything. Instead of believing in Jesus as the son of god, Muslim believes Jesus is just another prophet and Mohammed is the final prophet which the true prophet.

You can deny all you want, but Muslim is a branch out from Old Testament just like Christian. One believe in Jesus, another believe in Mohammed.

It is a hard truth to accept, but that is the fact that has been for thousands of years. Mohammed doesn't like the fact that Jesus is a son of god and claimed as such, that is where Muslim come from.
In the end, Muslim is a branch of the Bible.

This is like Catholic, which is another branch of which include both Old and New Testament, but they believe in Virgin Mary. This is nothing surprising since the origin of all 3 religions come from Middle East, by Middle East people.

Remember the San Francisco Bay Area earthquake of 1989? On television, they showed collapsed freeways and buildings. One could imagine from these images, that every freeway and building was like this. But that wasn't the case at all. Most areas were free of damage. My home, and homes around me, suffered no damage at all.

This is what television can do. It can make it seem like, in the case of Iranians, that everyone is out on the street shouting "Death to America," and burning the US flag. But that isn't the case at all, either.

There are movies on NetFlix that were made in Iran. And there are books and DVDs on Amazon, like "Feminine Breeze: Arts and Freedom in Iran" that show how people really are, (focusing on women, in this case), without the propaganda that the US media and government would love for you to believe.

I know that some people have misconceptions of the people of Iran, as well as other countries. There are evil people everywhere, including the US. Fortunately, they're in the minority, since most people just want peace, and are concerned with their own lives and ability to make a good living for their families.

People are just people, wherever you go. The biggest example of this is the US, since the US is made up of people from all over the world. Pretty much nearly everyone reading this who is now a US citizen, once had ancestors who came from another country, and not too long ago, at that. If the vast majority of us can get along with each other here, why do we see the same people as different and "evil," when they're in another country?

Of all the middle-eastern countries, the Iranian people are the most pro-American and westernized of all. I know Iranians here in Silicon Valley, who were brought up on TV shows like Dallas and Star Trek when they were growing up in Iran.

Stop believing the mindless propaganda. The people of Iran are nothing like what some of you may believe.

Give hate, get hate. A pretty simple concept. So simple that you'd think more people would understand it.

Someone has to be the first to step up and stop hating, otherwise the cycle is guaranteed to continue forever.

I'm not sure aid should be given unless asked for. What would be better than aid, is a change in our foreign policy. In other words, we should stop killing people and trying to control the world, for our own profit.

We have over 700 US bases in countries around the world. I don't think many Americans would be too happy if China and other countries had a few military bases here in the US. Or worse, decided to bring war to our shores and our homes and families, just as we flippantly do to other countries.

If that were to happen, maybe Jonathan would understand the real reasons behind the hate.

One big difference between the Christian religion and the Islamic cult is Christians teach their children to love and tolerate.. The cult followers teach their children to hate and that god rewards those who kill non Muslims because Islam is the only path.. Another is the fact that built into their cult is a one way door.. They welcome you with open arms to join but have severe social punishments via sharia laws written in the Koran for anyone who chooses another path or speaks ill of Islam which include death penalties.. If that's not a cult I don't know what is.. Aren't radical cults that teach this sickness of hate and promote anti freedom of religion behavior like this illegal in the US?? Just as the German people followed Hitler then when ruin came professed their hatred for him..

Dr. Cat there is a reason we have bases all around the world and China and Russia do not.. These countries trust that we will defend the area from aggression and not occupy and consume their country like communists would.. Besides most people don't like China's version of totalitarian rule..

Well put George - Do you remember 9-11. Who sent aid? No one. Remember Katrina, who sent aid? No one. Remember BP Oil Spill. Who sent aid? No one. Now let's look at what aid gets us...

We send aid to Pakistan. What do we get? Harboring Bin Laden, cut off supply lines, and a "trustworthy" (sarcasm) ally.

We send aid to Africa. What do we get? Piracy, failures to reign in terrorists, and more anti-American sentiment.

We send aid to Mexico. What do we get? Illegal immigrants, a Mexican President that demands we curb the flow of arms into his country, meanwhile we get drug and human smugglers and get to foot the bill for the illegals.

We send aid to ANYWHERE there is a disaster and what do we get? The same spit in the face we do today. Why? Because we are EXPECTED to solve the problems and get nothing in return. We are the world's dumbasses who foot the bill, too stupid to realize we will never win the hearts and minds (because we are a lap dog), and we can always borrow more money from China just to give away to everyone else. Never mind the homeless, the starving, and the destitute here. The real travesty is homeless vets, living under bridges, eating from dumpsters and trash cans. The same people who served this country and realize the only American Dream is the one you have at night, while living under the heels of the country's rich.

But hey, what do I know? I mean afterall it's only my taxes that are used to spend more on the unappreciative. It's only my great grandchildren's great grand kids and all the generations inbetween that will work, sweat, and have to repay that debt incurred. There is a saying. CHARITY STARTS AT HOME...

The US doesn't have much left to send. We send most of our aid to Israel and the rest of the money we spend fighting wars for Israel, such as the Iraq war, planned and sold by Zionists. AIPAC now spends most of their time, with the aid of the Zionist media, trying to influence America to attack Iran, a country that has not attacked another in more than a century.

We just voted to give Israel 9 more billion in loan guarantees and hundreds of millions of dollars in so called surplus military equipment to the parasites. America will pay all the interest and fees and in the end forgive the debt, like we have every other time Israel was loaned money. All this money to a country that brags about being such a productive country.

The Jewish Congress woman, Ros-Lehntinen has written a bill to provide hundreds of million to holocaust survivors. The bitch worries more about Jews and Israel than her American constituents, as do Eric Cantor, Barbara Boxer and Steny Hoyer, who came up with the bill for the loan guarantees to Israel.

Christians should not hate gay's. Because some do means they are horribly mis-guided. Personal feelings aside, nobody is perfect. Sin is sin. You steal from your friend, you kill your friend. It's sin. Judicially it may carry different punishments, but eternally, it carries the same. Whether a Christian is for or against gay's, they should love them anyway, help them, and consider them their equal. Everyone has a skeleton in their closet and should never look down on someone else.

Whether or not anyone has sent us aid, we should still help if we are able. Just because nobody came to our aid during some of our disasters does not mean we should thumb our noses and respond as a spoiled child. Again, we do the right thing....if they don't....that is their problem. Not ours. We have had a lot of problems with wildfires, drought and many homeless and hungry of our own. We need to stop spending billions on exploration of other planets, over-rated sporting events and bad Hollywood movies and stars and take care of "the least of our bretheren". Then maybe we will be better prepared when the next set of horrible disasters hits our country with a vengeance.

your point, don't forget we have Nuclear Power plants on fault lines. So whats your point?

                              #7.1 - Sat Aug 11, 2012 7:31 PM EDT

i think the point would be the irony in an event of mass destruction like an earthquake taking out an enrichment facility (oops i meant "power plant" - yes of course, nothing but honesty on that point from that country) built (posing as a power plant) to make a weapon of mass destruction. although it would be a tragedy for the people who had to deal with that fallout.

yes i know a number of allied countries have actual nuclear power plants on or near tectonic fault lines. yes it's dangerous .

yes i am eniterly skeptical of what the iranian gov't has told the rest of the world about its intentions in building nuclear facilities. i'd hate to see regular people pay the horrific price of having an overly ambitious gov't.

of course it doesn't appear that this has happened, but i think it was MadMorrison's point, or at least close to it. when i first heard about iran building nuclear facilities, my first thought was that the entire country is seismically active.

According to scientists at Goddard Space Center we do. HAARP can cause vibrations in the earths crust at high power, also causes EM anomalies in the atmosphere.

Our great nation has had earthquake machines for a long time--well over a century--and the various earthquake machines (or "earthquake oscillators") are based on the innovative and in some respects frightening work that Nikola Tesla began in the late 19th century and perfected in the early-20th century, which was when the technology went ultra-secret . . .

                                    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tesla%27s_oscillator

Nikola Tesla is rumored to have kept a portable "earthquake oscillator" in his hotel room in New York City, where after doing an experiment which had it continued would have leveled a nearby seven-story building, Tesla apparently decided to stop doing additional experiments . . .

In some respects, this is a bit of conjecture blended with some science fiction and flavored with a hint of conspiracy theory, but the fact of the matter is that Nikola Tesla invented the electrical power system that is used worldwide on this planet, as well as a lot of other truly mind-boggling stuff, where quite a bit of Tesla's inventions continue to be so advanced that nobody alive on this planet at the dawn of the early-21st century understands them, at least in any way which is made readily available to the general public, and for the most part Tesla's large scale experiments have been dismantled and removed from public view, although there are photographs of some of his large-scale experiments . . .

                                    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wardenclyffe_Tower

                                    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikola_Tesla

And while some of Nikola Tesla's inventions and thoughts might appear to be beyond "far-fetched", he designed, built, and demonstrated a radio-controlled electric boat in 1898, which is a bit of a clue to his extraordinary genius . . .

                                    http://www.google.com/patents?vid=613809

[NOTE: It is particularly enlightening to observe that Nikola Tesla's U. S. Patent for his radio-controlled electric boat technology is the foundation for modern 21st century secured communication transmissions, among other things . . . ]

                                    http://www.google.com/patents/US2292387

Considered in toto, the perspective here in the sound isolation studio is that if Nikola Tesla said that he had a working "earthquake oscillator" that fit inside a suitcase and could disintegrate a seven-story building in a matter of hours, which he is reported to have said, then I think Tesla was being quite factual, albeit perhaps a bit too candid, really . . .

                                    Really! :-o

It does what people have said it does, You do not know to much about what our Gov. has been doing (behind clossed doorsand behind our backs) in the past 12 years do you. You will be lucky to find any info on it, one place I know you can find it is Jessy Venture's site if the Gov, has not closed down his site yet. They closed down his TV specials cause he was letting to much info out. We have detention centers all over this country, Plastic coffins that will hold up to 4 people each, approx 2-300,000,000 of them. They disapeared over night. Our Gov. is ready for WWIII and they do not care how many Ameicans die. Stop watching Fox and find out what is going on in YOUR WORLD!!!!!

yes Tesla was working on some off-the-wall stuff, and he probably got some of it to work. my bet though, is that his work that was seized when he died, and is now listed as "secret" today because the DOD seized it and then embarrassingly lost it.

Sending any group of humans on this planet with a plea for speedy recovery, safety for the children, women and injured is the humanitarian thing to do. All of the ugly racist and ant-religious comments are worthless. Why rub salt into another's wound? Its only shows how ugly, sad and hateful some U.S. citizens are. Everyone is not a true, loving, caring Christian. We have some folks here who would fit well into the very same groups that they claim to dislike so much. look at yourselves and then make your decisions about others.

I am furious that Allah is not doing a good job of cleaning Islam.

He should start earthquakes from Mecca, Medina, Khom, Tehran, Riyadh and so on.

If Allah does not clean his religion of impure followers or infidels, Allah can't rule all over the world and have Sharia Laws.

In Pakistan, a pure Islamic nation, Allah's followers have started doing a good job of cleaning Islam of all sorts of infidels acting as Muslims.

How is what their doing any different from what the German people did during WW2. Many just sat on their hands while the Jews burned. I'm sorry but I would vote to do nothing except maybe use this as a chance to slip some spy's into Iran.

@Mark-292995, yes and here WE sit upon our hands as our government does things that many Americans don't agree with.

They dont help their own, why should we? Learn to help your own and then maybe, kind of like our welfare system.

And is that supposed to make it somehow OK, were they any the less criminal as a result of inaction by a population that was held hostage by a criminal government? All of these idiotic arguments that people pose here in the forums are a result of the mis-information they are fed by the politico's that are responsible for 95% of the misery in the world. It is easy to sit back in your recliners and agree with these policies that kill innocents everyday by the thousands because it just isn't real, there is no stench of death looking a TV's or reading a monitor. The thing is that eventually these evil governmental agencies are going to be turned on the recliner crowd, and by then it will be far too late to do a damn thing about these politicians that are puppets of the actual people in charge. If we just take the time to really understand the suffering of people that just want to live their lives just as we do, it would be far easier to empathize with their plight. And by the way, I don't think any of what the public did or didn't do once the war was over and the criminals that were charged. Once they were hung they were hung, and dead as a result of those crimes was dead.

One Eye .. I agree that we should try to help the people in need. Do not, though, believe that that this will earn us good will. It likely will not. This should not matter ... to do good only to get something in return, this is not good .. it is just business.

We would only hope that help can be given to those in need and not the leaders who do not require it ... and therein ... is the rub.

I feel bad for these people. With the current state of closed government there.

International assistance will be very scarce. Their population will suffer because of the governments current ways.

To the people of Iranian decent here. Please try to send any and everything you are allowed to help the population. The Red Cresent can and will provide assistance to the needy.

We certainly have the capability to help out. Both the big carriers have full hospitals on board and I am sure there is a couple marine assault type ships around. So, we have lots of supplies and helicopters to reach cut off areas. But the Iranian government will never allow us in to help.

How would it look to the people being helped if a bunch of US helicopters start landing and American service men start helping out. Would sort of undermine the whole Great Satan line that has been preached to them.

Did you not see the news just a few days ago, our US Navy rescued some of their Navy off of a burning ship. I haven't heard how Iran responded yet, but would think at least those rescued were very thankful.

That was 10 fishermen on a dhow that caught fire. The Iranian Navy was nowhere to be found, so our Navy rescued the men.

Well then perhaps now the US will decide the civilian population of this Country has suffered more than enough considering the millions that have died as a result of the UN Sanctions and now this natural disaster that pales in comparison that is nonetheless worthy of an MSN Red Line Alert. Its time for the US to End its wholesale murder of civilians. I seriously doubt that this is a "Natural" Disaster anyway as the US Navy has an installation in Alaska that has been experimenting with a device that will produce the effect experienced. Our Country has been taken over by some damn evil people.

A local official in the area told Iranian Students' News Agency that six villages had been completely destroyed and 60 villages had been 50 to 70 percent destroyed.
