Obama escalated his war of "necessity" in Afghanistan/Pakistan, but didn't have the brains to send in enough troops to get the job done. Now our troops are being killed there on an almost daily basis by the guys Obama has assigned our troops to "train". He got US involved in Libya and lord knows what happened to the chemical weapons and anti aircraft weapons Qaddafi had. He is fighting his new war in Yemen (but the press is pretending it is not a war)but Al Qaida is winning that. He is, back door, supplying weapons and intelligence to the Al Qaida fighters in Syria and is threatening to attack both Syria and Iran. So why are you not complaining about him and focusing on something that happened long ago and can't be undone? Is it because you know that Obama is weak and just says bellicose things? Or because you actually believe he intends to do what he says he will do and support his intentions to go to war with Syria and Iran?

Well, as unpopular as it is, I still say it's their war. I don't have a problem with helping Refugees, that's being human. In every Revolution there are people that don't want to get involved, even in our own Civil War. Innocent people were caught in the middle or managed to get out of the way. After the smoke cleared people went back home. Just for a point of interest here on the Chemical Weapons. We train what to do in practice and how to decontaminate. The Russians train with the real stuff and have to actually decontaminte themselves and equipment. What we do in practice they do for real. The Russians would naturally have less fear of Chemicals than we do. The only thing we train with is Tear Gas. Not a real problem. I don't consider it to much of anything training.

Well clearly the US is no longer seen by anybody as a super power. We can lay that blame squarely on our leader because he is the one that changed the tone to apologizing and accommodating. The left hated that Bush was hated because he called a spade a spade not worrying about hurting feelings. True getting others to work with the US was made difficult. However now we have others calling the shots. So he have handed over power to anybody that wants it, and we sit back idly making blustering comments. As far as being liked better, we are not. This article is about China and Russia opposing the USA using unilateral force to end the conflict in Syria, as President Obama is threatening to do. What is Obama's justification for such action? He's afraid that the Syrian government will use biological and chemical weapons on their people. Haven't we seen this movie played before, wasn't it called Iraq, the Bush War?

1) Putin has a lot on the line with Assad. He has put a lot of personal capital behind backing Shiites in the Muslim world in order to foster schisms. Iran has underperformed his expectations, but Assad is a complete fail! Putin is becoming more and more unpopular in Russia and if Assad falls, it will only add fuel to that fire by making Putin look even more inept at foreign policy.

2) The Russian Black Sea Fleet is Russia's only warm water naval force of any significance. It is nominally a joint Russian-Ukrainian fleet, but is actually under 100% operational control of Russia even though it is based in the Crimea which is part of the Ukraine. This is a major problem because the Black Sea is about 2/3 controlled by NATO countries (Greece and Turkey) and anti-Russian countries such as Georgia. To get out of the Black Sea, the BSF must pass through the Bosporus and Dardanelles which are controlled by a NATO country, Turkey. Once out of the Black Sea, the BSF either has to return to the Crimea to refuel, refit and rearm or go to Russia's ONLY military base --- at Targus in Syria. The US has over 2,000 overseas military bases. Russia has one. If Assad falls, the Sunnis that would take power would kick the Russians out because of their involvement in Afghanistan and Chetznia. This would also put Putin in a bad light and would severely decrease the military value of the Black Sea Fleet.

3) China gets involved only because they have almost zero oil and natural gas. Chinese coal is running out. So China is not going to burn any bridges with any country that could supply them with oil in the future. It is not so much a matter of agreeing with the politics of a given oil-producing country, but of trying not to lose the momentum of Chinese economic growth because of energy shortages.

The real loser in what is going on is Israel. Egypt has become unstable to the point that it is really exacerbating Israeli paranoia on its southern border. Now the Syrian civil war is spreading to Lebanon right on Israel's northern border further upsetting the Israeli's. Israel sees a massive window of opportunity closing, perhaps permanently. They believe that Obama will not support a preemptive strike on Iran for which the IDF has only marginal capability to do in the first place. Even if Romney were to win the election by some long shot, history tells the Israelis that new American Presidents do not like to get into foreign adventures (wars) in their first year or 18 months. There is a deeply held belief in some Israeli circles that their only chance for the next 5-6 years is to attack Iran and provoke a response that would draw the US into a middle eastern war and would not only go after Iran, but Syria, Lebanon and Egypt at the same time.

As some people were openly criticizing Obama about firing the first shots for the UN in the Libyan conflict, his actions resulted in the overthrow-and eventual death of Gadhafi. We never set foot on the ground there, and were not involved in the civil war that resulted, but we did lay the ground rules to some extent.

Obama went where Bush should have gone during the early 2000s to kill or capture Bin Laden. Pakistan has been such a stellar Ally in the Afghanistan conflict, since they were allowing Taliban and al Qaida free reign there.

Tommy, I have to say your slightly delusional. Many Americans believe we are invulnerable, but the sad truth is we are not! Especially more so now as most Americans can't get along and agree on anything longer then 30 seconds and its getting worse.
