Senior Taliban commander, 12 other militants killed by US drone strike in Afghanistan

PESHAWAR, Pakistan - The Pakistani Taliban has confirmed that one of their senior leaders and a dreaded militant commander, Mulla Dadullah, was killed in a U.S. drone attack along with 12 other fighters at Sheegal Darra in the Kunar province of Afghanistan on Friday night.

"Someone planted a chip, which was used for spying purposes, on Mujahideen near his compound that helped the drone trace his whereabouts. Mulla Dadullah and his 12 other bodyguards were killed in the missile attack," said a senior Pakistani Taliban leader, who belongs to Bajaur tribal region and is based in Afghanistan's Kunar province.

US, Pakistan should 'divorce,' ex-ambassador to Washington says

Mulla Dadullah, in his 40s, was the Taliban chief for the troubled Bajaur region, bordering Afghanistan.

Taliban sources said the body of Dadullah and those that died with him were damaged in the missile strike. Dadullah had replaced Maulvi Faqir Mohammad last year when he told media that the Taliban were holding peace talks with the government.

Watch World News videos on NBCNews.com

It prompted the Taliban leadership, who until now were denying peace talks with the Pakistan government and replaced Maulvi Faqir with Dadullah, to punish him for his secret negotiations.

Pakistani Taliban in Bajaur and Swat were forced to flee their native areas and take refuge in Afghanistan after Pakistani security forces launched military operations against them in 2008 and 2009 respectively.

These militants often cross the border and carry out attacks inside Pakistan. Pakistan has repeatedly complained that the Afghan government and Nato had failed to stop these militants from conducting terrorist attacks in Pakistan.

Dadullah's real name was said be Mohammad Jamal and he belonged to the Mamond area in Bajaur. Before becoming a militant, he had a shop in a market at the commercial town of Inayat Kalley in Bajaur in which he used to sell salt. He joined the Taliban network in 2006 and was reportedly very close to Arab fighters who had taken shelter in Bajaur at that time.

Hmmmm,

So, we got ANOTHER senior Taliban commander. Seems like we keep getting all these senior commanders and they just keep coming out with more.

Just like Al Qaeda keeps growing stronger despite our victory laps about killing Osama Porn Laden.

This is an endless quagmire with no end in sight. We need to just carpet bomb all the poppy fields in Afghanistan, send Hillary to India on Monday to begin talks about a new "alliance" we're forming with them, and I guarantee you most of the problems in that corner of the world will improve.

ROTFLMAO!!!!

I'm sure if the Liberals need another bump for Barrack Hussein anytime soon they'll be telling us he killed Osama Porn Laden, again.

No wonder microsoft is pulling out from msnbc: What terrible English!

Taliban sources said the body of Dadullah and those that died with him were damaged in the missile strike.

The BODIES WERE DAMAGED???? ANOTHER INTERN AND ANOTHER LACK OF PROOFREADERS!. NBC is just throwing anything out there to show how disrespectful they are about their lack of professionalism.

Carpet bomb the whole @!$%#ing area, that will leave a message and get the troops out. We do not need to be there. Obama does not give a @!$%# about the politics of the region as he showed in his actions in Iraq so why the hell stay there! Prepare for the Iran attack and carpet bomb them too and then let the Israelis finish them off and get the hell out.

Sanctions will not cut it. The enemy only understands massive force. Let them go complain to the U.N., China and Russia.

Al-Qaida and Taliban leaders, hiding in Pakistan (and this time in Afghan.), are being decimated by these strikes. Don't think it's not taking a heavy toll on them. Just because some other muji takes their place doesn't mean that the replacement(s) will be nearly as effective.

I think we need to get out of Afghanistan as soon as we can without throwing away everything we've worked so hard to build there in the last ten years. Until then, these drone strikes are denying the enemy safe havens, both in Pakistan and in Afghanistan. Good.

Chris from Yucaipa

While that is true, the people who assume the position are less experienced which makes it progressively easier to find and kill the next guy in line.

Sure Chris, keep thinking that.

Just like we've been bringing Al-Qaeda to their knees, when a related article here on PMSNBC just 12 days ago titled, "Will world inaction help al-Qaida gain foothold in Syria"? by Richard Engell, showed that they're "well-funded" and "well-armed".

Wasn't killing Osama Porn Laden allegedly the final nail in Al-Qaeda's coffin? Please don't be so naive.

Yes, it was important for us to get him to vindicate 9/11. However, he has been insignificant for years. Al-Qaeda is not one person. It's a well funded, well organized terrorist group, that's been in existence for nearly 25 years. This didn't happen by luck. Killing Porn Laden was purely symbolic, no more no less. Sure, Barrack Hussein got to take his victory laps for a week or so. So what? It just means we finally found him but his legacy will continue.

We spend millions to find and kill one "commander" and tomorrow they have another replacing him.

We got Porn Laden. Afghanistan is the graveyard of empires. It's time to go home.

Like I said, it's time to destroy the poppy fields, just for the symbolism. Create an alliance with India and bring our troops home. There's no reason to be there any longer.

For several months the Taliban and the American military have been exchanging tit-for-tat. For Taliban's downing an American chopper, bombing of American outpost, or gunning down several soldiers, the American military responds with Drone attacks, aerial bombing, and 'surge' operations.

The increase in violence is not what it seems. The real purpose is the posturing by both sides to demonstrate military strength and capability prior to the upcoming peace negotiation. The Taliban knows the Americans are literally dying to get out of Afghanistan. And they are not about to let the Americans off the hook so quickly and easily.

The American strategy is to teach the Talibans a lesson if they stall coming to the peace talks. American firepower will unleash its full fury against the Taliban until the Taliban agrees to come to the peace table and then agree to the terms of the peace treaty. This strategy is similar to the massive B52 carpet bombing of North Vietnam under "Operation Rolling Thunder" as a terror weapon to force Le Doc Thuo(sic) to sit with Henry Kissinger to hammer out a peace deal.

"Salt" the mountain range between Pakistan and Afghanistan with a virus designed to just make them deathly sick; vomit, diarrhea, pounding headaches, ect. ect. Then, just drop some leaflets from the drones across the area that ask them, "how ya doing today?" Wait a week or two, when they start to get better, then let them have another dose. Repeat the virus applications and drop the same leaflets again and again and again. No bullets, no bombs, no toilet paper....

"Mulla Dadullah, in his 40s, was the Taliban chief for the troubled Bajaur region, bordering Afghanistan."

This means he was the senior commander for that region, not all of the Taliban as a whole. The Taliban are divided into tribes and each tribe has its own commander and command structure. Since this is the case when we read about one commander being killed there are many others according to tribe and region (look at a region as a county here).

And there will be another Mulla Dadullah to replace this one. As is the Afgan and predominantly middle eastern way with tribes, each commander, or "chief", is given a name selected by the tribes people according to Allah or their God. However, the new commander or chief can also choose to keep his birth name, as Osama Bin Laden did.

So whoever replaces Mulla Dadullah will also be Mulla Dadullah. It would help us understand if they added "the first, the second, the third..etc, etc..." to their names.

Another one 'bites the dust'.

But before we give Obama credit, remember that the drone program was set up by Bush.

By the way - I seem to remember that the media was constantly criticizing Bush when the price of gasoline approached $4 per gallon in the Summer of 2008, but now that it's there again under Obama - we seldom see any mention of it. Interestingly, the price of gasoline was only $1.84 per gallon when Bush left office and Obama took over. It has now gone up more than double and is devastating to the average family budget.

Can anyone spell MEDIA BIAS?

Hello Jim Spence, you said:

"This is an endless quagmire with no end in sight. We need to just carpet bomb all the poppy fields in Afghanistan".

Carpet bomb the poppy fields? Aren't you aware that this is one of our most profitable enterprises in Afghanistan?

Here is a short snippet of an article on the” war on drugs”:

The “War On Drugs” Is A $2.5 Trillion Racket: How Big Banks, Private Military Companies And The Prison Industry Cash In

News // Jul 11 2011

By David DeGraw – AmpedStatus Report

For a further understanding of how the War on Drugs is deeply intertwined with the War on Terror, the invasion and occupation of Afghanistan has led to an explosive increase in drug trade profits:

Afghanistan as a Drug War

“From a modest 185 tons at the start of American intervention in 2001, Afghanistan now produced 8,200 tons of opium, a remarkable 53 percent of the country’s GDP and 93 percent of global heroin supply.

In this way, Afghanistan became the world’s first true ‘narco-state.’ If a cocaine traffic that provided just 3 percent of Colombia’s GDP could bring in its wake endless violence and powerful cartels capable of corrupting that country’s government, then we can only imagine the consequences of Afghanistan’s dependence on opium for more than 50 percent of its entire economy.

At a drug conference in Kabul this month, the head of Russia’s Federal Narcotics Service estimated the value of Afghanistan’s current opium crop at $65 billion. Only $500 million of that vast sum goes to Afghanistan’s farmers, $300 million to the Taliban guerrillas, and the $64 billion balance ‘to the drug mafia,’ leaving ample funds to corrupt the Karzai government in a nation whose total GDP is only $10 billion.”

Chris, don't flatter yourself. I don't care if you reply.

Now, as far as your convoluted argument about names, let me think of some of the names you limp-wristed Libbies thought were so "clever" or "witty", as you like to say, about Bush.

Dubya, Bushie, Shrub, Chimp, Smirky, Bu@!$%#ler, Chickenhawk One, Hitlerburton, Chimpowitz, Rove's Puppet, Cowboy Hitlerstein, AWOL McPsycho, Bushollini, Cheney's Sock Puppet, Chimpy McDrunkard, Darth Moron, Toxic Texan, Dim Son, Drinky McCokeSpoon, Emperor Chimpatine, Fearful Leader, Herr Bush, Moron-in-Chief, Satan's Monkey,,,,

Should I continue?

Now, if you want to see firsthand the "LUV", "RESPECT" and "TOLERANCE" you limp-wristed Libbies had for Bush, scan down this link:

http://www.zombietime.com/zomblog/?p=621

If anyone today protested like this against your boy-toy Brokeback Barrack Hussein, the outrage would be bordering on the hysterical. We would be labeled biased, racists, bigots, haters, birthers, flat-earthers and any other pejorative possible.

Today you bobbleheads once again draw on your "witty cleverness" against Romney. Mittwit, Mittens, Willardo, Robme, NitMitt and on and on. Even our disgusting POS POTUS got in on the name-calling with his cutesy little label "Romneyhood".

You can just park your high and mighty self-aggrandizement over in the corner, no one believes it. You thin-skinned Libbies are OK with all your hate, anger, racism, violence and vitriol but when it's pointed at you it's "retarded".

Save it for your California cabal, that's the only place it might work.

What is with all these "collapsed by community", all the same people that keep screaming "Freedom of Speech", "Constitutional Rights", blah, blah, blah. I don't care, even if I don't like someone elses baloney, nonsense, non factual posts.

Roadkill - We had better stop these drone strikes! The US Military Industrial Complex will run out of things to scare us with, and THEN what?!? Cuts to the military budget?!? OMG! PANIC!

Roadkill = splat all over the road.

You, and all those b!tching, are products of President FDR's US Military Industrial Complex, that President FDR created to get the US out of the Great Depression 1939 years before the US got into WWII 1941. After he figured out that US Consumerism would NOT get the US out of the Great Depression and the Sales of "War Materials" to England, France, Russia, China, etc. would get the US out of the Great Depression.

Even today the sales of Apple iPads, iPhones, etc. Made In China will NEVER equal just one Made In US F-15 sold to US Ally Saudi Arabia.

As stated by President Obama's Appointed Secretary of Defense Leon Penetta, 2012, " a 10% cut to the (US) Defense Budget will result in a million (US) Civilians being unemployed". Proof of what I posted many times before, the current US Military Industrial Complex employs almost a hundred Million (too expensive, overpaid) US Civilians directly or indirectly.

And personally, I honestly believe it is about time to throw the almost hundred million too expensive overpaid US Civilians employed by the US Military Defense Industrial Complex on unemployment, instead of President Obama as Commander In Chief Ordered Reduction In Forces (RIF) of the US Military of 90,000 US Military Personnel, let these US Military Personnel do all those jobs that they used to do before President Clinton's previous Cut to the Bone Reduction In Forces (RIFs) of the US Military that moved all these "In House" US Military Jobs to the expensive overpaid US Civilians of the US Contractors. Former US Military Jobs, now performed by the too expensive overpaid US Civilians of the US Contractors: Logistics, Supply, Sea Air Land Transportation, Maintenance (Aircraft, Vehicles, Weapons Systems, Facilities, Ships, Boats (Submarines), Communications (including Computer Networking), Sanitation (Waste Disposal, Water Purification, Bathing Facilities, Laundry Services, etc.), Food Service, etc..

And do not even attempt to feed everyone bullsh!t that this "saves money":

US Military E-3 truck driver (with time in service), also performs as a Combatant: $35, 000 per year including "Hazardous Duty Pay" (aka Combat Pay). Lives in a hole in the ground or in a modified shipping container with his "buddies". Performs guard duty, operator vehicle maintenance, convoy security, etc..

US Civilian Truck Driver (in the same convoy as the US Military E-3 truck driver above): $200,000 per year plus while "in Theater" receives all the Benefits of the US Military, plus those of the US Department of State. Is NOT a Combatant and Security must be provided by either US Military or more US Civilians of the very expensive US Civilian Security Contractors. Lives in a secured (by US Military or expensive US Civilian Security) Hotel, vehicle maintenance provided by more US Civilians.

And let the US Military buy from the Chinese and Russian Federation, instead of "US Military Must Buy Only US Products, Goods, and Services" that way we do not have to pay so much for the "Fair and Living Wages" of US Civilians that cause the US Military to buy $300 Hammers, and those F**King expensive USAF Toilet Seats, that the Chinese Military or Russian Military would gladly sell to the US for a few USDs that are actually of higher quality (since the Chinese and Russians get every Chinese Yuan or Russian Rubles worth because they still take people out and execute them for Contract Defaults, Contract Delays, F**ked up Products, etc.).

JimSpence - So, we got ANOTHER senior Taliban commander. Seems like we keep getting all these senior commanders and they just keep coming out with more.

FYI, the Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists have the majority of the 1.5 Billion Islamic Believers Worldwide to draw from, as the Majority are Fundamentalist Islamic Believers and NOT the "Moderate", "Liberal", "Pro Western", etc. minority like those living at the US.

As the Fundamentalist Islamic Believers do NOT believe in "Empty Words" (Negotiations) and DO believe in "Shoot First as the Dead do not Complain". So the "Moderate", "Liberal", "Pro Western" interpretation Islamic Believers that believe in Negotiations first are usually killed off while mouthing off their empty words to the Fundamentalist Islamic Believers.

The Fundamentalist Islamic Laws (Shia, as Sharia Laws) require by Islamic Laws the 1.5 Billion Islamic Believers, as well as those subjugated (non Islamic Believers living at Islamic Nations) to pay the Mandatory Islamic Tithes of Trillions USDs per year. These Mandatory Islamic Tithes of Trillions of USDs per year are NOT being used for the "Poor of Islam" and only to fund the Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists (Islamic Holy Warriors and Fighters for the Islamic People and Islamic Nations), previous and current initiatives of the US and International: Intelligence Agencies, Law Enforcement Agencies, Asymmetric Warfare Forces, Departments of State, etc. to stop the Islamic Mandatory Islamic Tithes funding the Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists Worldwide.

JimSpence - This is an endless quagmire with no end in sight.

Stop thinking WWI, WWII Conventional Warfare. Asymmetric Warfare takes Years, Decades, Centuries to win, especially when most do not even know the differences between Conventional Warfare and Asymmetric Warfare and enable the enemy to obtain their Strategic Asymmetric Warfare Goals without even knowing that they did.

JimSpence - We need to just carpet bomb all the poppy fields in Afghanistan,

Once again Conventional Warfare, "Carpet Bomb", just like the USSR 40th Army attempted to do and only created more problems for themselves (Strategic Goal get "the People" to fight for your Causes for perceived or real injustices, so we exploited the USSR indiscriminate killing of Afghans to recruit for the 1980s Pro US Afghan Muhajeen during Operation Cyclone, NOT the later 1990s Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban as supported by USSR back Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran, nor Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadist International Franchise of Al Quada).

You bomb the poppy fields the Russian Mob and Chinese Tong (mob) will pressure their Governments to get directly involved since the Chinese Mob and Russian Mob get most of the opium from Afghanistan via the Old Silk Road.

Sam627556 - Better than the Lets wait and see attitude of the GOP ...... I think they was waiting for Osama to die of old age.

Shows just how much you DON'T Know. First, after the 1993 First World Trade Center Bombing, President Clinton refused to accept the US Ally Saudi Arabia's Extradition of Osama Bin Laden, and refused to allow the US Evidence of OBLs involvement to be given to the US Ally Saudi Arabian Government so that they could prosecute the f**k out of his Fundamentalist Islamic (Shia) Jihadist Anti (Sunnis) Saudi Arabian arse. So without sufficient Evidence Osama Bin Laden was released. After his release US Military Asymmetric Warfare Teams attached to the CIA's SAD/SOG were shadowing OBL and requested President Clinton's Presidential Authorization to Terminate OBL, at first like most Presidents President Clinton on numerous occasions "Politically Distanced" himself, and already had the "Politically Expedient Scapegoats" designated (the then Director of his Executive Intelligence Agency, Director of the CIA), when the time came to make the final decision and authorize Presidential Authorization, President Clinton started saying NO, as a violation of the US No Assassination Policy (including International Laws, Treaties, Agreements, etc.).

Finally, in 2006 President Bush regardless of opposition of US Politicians, President Bush Amended the US No Assassination Policy to allow the Termination of Osama Bin Laden, as the original mission was to Locate and Capture Osama Bin Laden, and failing that (locate and capture) the Termination of OBL. This new mission is then added to the US Mission at Afghanistan. The new 2006 Mission Planning was then given (tasked) to General McChrystal (US Army Special Forces, previous Commander SOC (Special Operations Command), Admiral McRaven (USN SEAL, Commander JSOC (Joint Special Operations Command), Director of the CIA (later delegated to CIA's SAD/SOG).

As the Original Mission for Afghanistan weeks after the 9/11 2001 Attacks was to Overthrow the Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban Government (Support and Islamic Sanctuary to OBL, AQ), eliminate AQ, eliminate the Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadist Training Camps (at Northern Afghanistan), later the UN Mission Nation Building was added (to make Afghanistan Internationally Legal). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arxKhJIjIiY. Those of us that survived October 2001 then are tasked to go after the Fundamentalist Islamic Al Quada, Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban, Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists that escaped Afghanistan and fled to Islamic Nation Iraq and became Fundamentalist Islamic Ansar Al Islamic as 2002 Operation Hotel California, the mission is later changed for us to start to accomplish President Clinton's Mission of US Law, H.R.4655 "Iraqis Liberation Act of 1998" aka Operation Iraqis Freedom before the US Military Conventional Forces 2003 start coming into Iraq.

Chris from Yucaipa - And Obama increased it 100 fold. And got results.

Since the October 2001 Mission to Afghanistan we (US Military Asymmetric Warfare Forces attached to the CIA's SAD/SOG) have been performing SS (Special Surveillance, To determine Targets), SR (Special Reconnaissance), and Targeting and Target Damage Assessments, using MQs (Armed Drones) and Aircraft.

Nope. President Obama chopped the numbers of MQs (armed "drones"), increased restriction on the use of MQs. President Obama's March 2009 Iran Policy allowed the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran to increase pressure on the US Ally Government of Pakistan to get the US RQ and MQ Bases out of Pakistan or Iran will get the Islamic Jihadists to Overthrow the US Ally Pakistanis Government (like they got rid of many US Allies Worldwide).

Chris from Yucaipa - Not to mention we aren't losing troops in Somalia, Yemen, Pakistan or Ethiopia, and yet we're killing militants in all those countries.

I would say LIAR. However, I will not stoop to your level. Go ask blabber mouth Senator Lieberman, since he "Outted" President Obama's Secret Wars (not Iraq, nor Afghanistan). And before you even talk about OUR (literally, not your) "Boots on the Ground", as previously redeployed from Afghanistan to those Nations of President Obama's Secret Wars to conduct Special Surveillance, Special Reconnaissance and Targeting and Target Damage Assessments (those things that cannot be done any other way, no matter what great technological things you attempt).

Since you and the others that don't want to listen to those as "Boots On the Ground" that had to "Do it". Read the link below, Unclassified Article, then brag to everyone about just how much YOU DON'T KNOW.

You want to know how "Low Tech or No Tech" defeats US High Tech, like I posted before and got a Letter of Reprimand. So as to not disclose Classified again, think WWII "Coast Watchers" as those "innnocent" Civilians and Children given radios, cell phones by the Islamic Jihadists to warn them of the aircraft or drones taking off, direction, speed, altitude, etc.; we used to neutralize them before President Obama's Rules of Engagement "Cannot shoot unless shot", "US Civilian Rules of Evidence, must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that individual shot at you" (so they shoot at us, then throw their weapon(s) away, so we have to chase them, capture them, just so that we can do a gunshot residue test and they know that, so they do that to lead us into ambushes), if you violate those your arse will be at the Bagram AFB Detention Facility awaiting prosecution of the hundreds of Lawyers sent to Afghanistan during President Obama's Civilian Surge since August 2009, not sent to Afghanistan to defend US Military.

Kevin, my thaught exactly. Just another example of the loose lip's that have plagued our military and political command process as of late. That seem to be non exsistant to many people if you attach the big O word to the problem. Not saying it is his fault but more the fault I think of disrespect of the command structure starting at the top. But that's another topic argued many time's already.

Unfortunetly now the taliban will be looking to find someone to blame. Let's just hope they have one of their own that they wrongly suspect to be the traitor and kill him instead.

"Someone planted a chip". I suppose that is possible, but the great news about the Taliban representative saying this is that is clear evidence that the locals around them don't all support them. I have little doubt someone ratted them out, whether it was just with location intel or actually planting some tracking/target device.

The Taliban has to be beginning to realize that they are not as popular as they would like to believe. This little statement says they are running scared and suggests that it is time to double down on the drone attacks.

This is good news. Good in that we are hitting them hard and leaving them nowhere to hide. And it is also good news that the people of the region have had their fill of these guys and are taking actions against them. The locals may not have the capability to expel these guys themselves, but it would seem they have figured out how to bring the wrath of the US government onto their heads. It is becoming more evident that "inside information" on a lot of the Taliban leader has been coming in on a pretty regular basis.

Really? The total number of drone strikes in 2008 under Bush was 36, and the total number so far in 2012 is 36. That's a long ways from 3,600.

I just got back from Costa Rica and hadn't watched any news programs for 6 months, so I watched a couple of FOX news programs and a few NBC news programs and I found Fox to offer guest opinions from both sides but NBC only showed the liberal view.

It would appear that FOX may indeed be more 'fair and balanced' than NBC.

                  Roy Wilson,

Drone attacks in Pakistan began in 2004. Comparing 2008 to 2012 isn't a fair comparison. This year has seen a decline in these actions because of less cooperation from Pakistan and bad press about collateral damage. Look at Bush's second term totals vs. Obama's first term totals. It may not be quite 10 times as many under Obama, but it is pretty close.

The fact is that under GW Bush, they were constantly trying to appease Musharraff and giving him money and support to do the job, but his forces were in reality doing very little. If you compare Taliban and Al Qada body counts, Obama has over a 10 to 1 lead. Giving "credit" to Bush is ridiculous. It's not like arming the drones was his idea. Obama has taken a technique pioneered during the Bush Administration and turned it into a very successful strategy.

Obama has success with drone strikes and you want to give credit to Bush. But Bush created more than 90% of the economic crash monetary losses, but you'd prefer not to give him "credit" for that. If you really want to judge the whole economic situation, you really need to look at the total US wealth and the GDP. From mid 2007 through the end of Bush's second term, the total US wealth dropped by between 45 to almost 60 trillion. (The biggest pieces being in housing net worth and market investment) GDP was also in decline. Now we have far from recovered, but during the Obama first term, within a few months the trends reversed and a large portion of that total wealth has been recovered, but there's still a long way to go. GDP has also shown growth, granted not huge growth, but it is at least moving in the right direction. No doubt, the economy has not completely recovered under Obama by any means, but it has come a long way back from where it was at the hand off. You can muddy the appearance by looking at things like employment numbers, which are actually a delayed affect of the lost wealth, but real dollar wealth is the true measure. Bush gets credit for virtually all the losses, Obama gets credit for the portion that has recovered.

As for Fox News, you really can't believe what you are saying can you? I understand your position, but really, very few respectable authoritative representatives from the left appear on Fox News. You can say they show both sides, but "token" liberals don't really count. Fox only takes on guests that they can shoot down and make look non credible. NBC and MSNBC as well as most of the major networks in fact have far more "credible" right wing guests. These aren't obscure Tea Baggers but clearly recognized, indentifiable leaders from the right. They let these people speak their spin freely and although the guests from the left will discredit them, it isn't because the right side guests are obscure incompetents. Fox has a tendency to use left side quotes on tape out of context taken from other real networks as opposed to actually having those people on live. That is because it is far easier to discredit them in that type of one sided attack format.

There is no doubt that Fox News is a very powerful component in influencing public opinion, but mainly in influencing the uniformed, dumb public who make up the 20 million loyal Fox viewership. The reality is that Fox News has single handedly turned the US into a divided country. When a news celebrity on one of the major networks goes too far in a biased remark, they immediately get struck down, suspended or fired by their networks. On the other hand, when someone on the Fox News side does it he becomes a hero and Fox just promotes him even more.

I frequently watch both the major news networks and Fox News. One for information and the other to see what the right is trying to sell. There is little doubt in my mind that although some spin may exist in the so called "left wing media", Fox is all about deception and mis-information that goes far beyond spin. Spin is telling the story from a limited, one sided view point. But what Fox does is tell outright lies and when caught, they make absolutely no attempt to apologize or correct the record. Fox News has in fact created the majority of partisanship in this country today. Before Fox News existed, we did not have this huge divide that we have today. That is a simple fact and it is not just a coincidence, it is at the root cause.

ROY WILSON-336103 - Both of your numbers are off. Obama has greatly increased the drone strikes and technically has increased it 100% except for 2009 while this year is on track for close to a 100% increase.

                  Bush: 2004-07 (10), 2008 (36)

                  In 2009 (54) 50% , 2010 (122) 238%, 2011(72) 100% , 2012 (36) (slightly more than halfway through year).

These militants often cross the border and carry out attacks inside Pakistan. Pakistan has repeatedly complained that the Afghan government and Nato had failed to stop these militants from conducting terrorist attacks in Pakistan.

We don't even get intelligence from the terrorists as to new targets, we just blow them up by a drone strike.

Again, we are not getting intelligence and when we do----it leaks out from the top to the drones who herald it as bravery when it is just sloppy politics.

Good point! When I was a kid most people had had some military experience because of the draft. Since they pretty much abolished the draft in 1972 very few people now have had any military experience. It kind of makes me wonder what it means for the future of our country.

True and False. During my Senior Year of High School (Gymnasium at Germany), I got my Selective Service Card. My Father a Korean Conflict (War) Veteran was beyond surprised as he volunteered for three tours at Vietnam since the 1960s (multiple Bronze Stars (Valor), multiple DFCs, etc.), he believed by volunteering that his sons would not have to go (to Vietnam). I ended up first as Field Artillery, then was told that I volunteered to be a LRRP/Ranger (my belief even today, my "Chief Of Smoke" (Field Artillery Platoon Sergeant) wanted me dead). Towards the very end of the Vietnam "Conflict" (War) Teams of us "young adults" as LRRP/Rangers were dumped off near Plei Can (the Ho Chi Minh Trail (super freeway) reenters Vietnam) to call in Airstrikes to slow down the NVA and Vietcong flooding south so that the rest of the US Military could "Retrograde" in a orderly manner (instead of a US Dunkirk). Being so young (and stup!d) we really believed that we were invincible (until we saw friendsdie) and that we would not be abandoned as expendable and too much of a risk to extract us. It only dawned on us that we might be left behind, after a few hours after we were on the ground at Plei Can. Fortunately, the helicopters did show up to extract us and did not get shot down before or afterwards. It was only recently that this information was Declassified under the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) and added to my current US Military Personnel Records.

It was after the Drawdowns and Reduction In Forces (RIF) of the US Military after Vietnam resulting in a loss of US Military capabilities; that later on due to my previous being a LRRP/Ranger that I was told either Resign my Commission (comfortable desk job) or become a US Military Asymmetric Warfare (aka Special Warfare) "Middle East" (Islam, Islamic Nations Worldwide) Qualified Officer (from cush desk job to First in Last out, while the rest of the US Military was enjoying the "Peacetime" US Military and getting promoted faster for doing less with no risks. example: It was decades later that I finally got my Combat service recognition for being on the US Military Training Teams to US Ally Iraq during the Iran Iraq Wars (leading Iraqis into Combat) and Operation Cyclone

Even First Lady Michelle Obama stated that most US Citizens have no idea:

                      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5e1R0lliFHc

Mickey-1983943 - Since they pretty much abolished the draft in 1972

It was after the Drawdowns and Reduction In Forces (RIF) of the US Military after Vietnam resulting in a loss of US Military capabilities; that later on due to my previous being a LRRP/Ranger that I was told either Resign my Commission (comfortable desk job) or become a US Military Asymmetric Warfare (aka Special Warfare) "Middle East" (Islam, Islamic Nations Worldwide) Qualified Officer (from cush desk job to First in Last out, while the rest of the US Military was enjoying the "Peacetime" US Military and getting promoted faster for doing less with no risks. example: It was decades later that I finally got my Combat service recognition for being on the US Military Training Teams to US Ally Iraq during the Iran Iraq Wars (leading Iraqis into Combat) and Operation Cyclone (leading Pro US Afghan Muhajeen into combat against USSR.), so while we were doing that (Combat) during the "Peacetime" US Military, the others were attending the Ticket Punch US Military Schools and Training to get promoted, as to why most of them outrank us and are our Bosses (that don't listen to us as "Boots on the Ground" (experience from then till current)). A reality that will never change, as never did change from before.).

Romney still isn't good enough. His own Party said he was simply the best they had to offer. Not a very ringing endorsement, is it. Romney just wants to finish the destruction of this country, that Bush started. Remember, he wouldn't fight for this country, but thinks he deserves to run it.

I like to think out of the box?! 1980 what a good year for the GOP and the future of world war three! I still say we should have let the Russian win that one in Afghanistan and there would never have been 9-11! If you don't plan on doing it right the first time... Plan on doing it again! Oh that's what the GOP is doing taking the place of the Russians instead of the French? We will be gone in just a couple of more years if no sooner if Barack is re-elected... I don't know about the GOP? I think they wanna make a permanent stance in Afghanistan like they wanted to in Iraq? But lets ask Romney what he will do?

It was the US News Media that did that (outed CIA Agent), and when the President Bush Department of Justice (DOJ) started to go after the News Media all of you Hypocrites started with your "Right to Know", "Freedom of the Press", "Transparency", "Constitutional Rights", etc.; then you say absolutely nothing about demanding prosecution about outing the Intelligence Asset (USN SEAL) that wrote his book AFTER Retiring to "Set the Record Straight" with the profits going to the Wounded Warriors Fund, Widows and Children of deceased US Military, etc..

Can you imagine having an outdoor evening barbecue in Afghanistan with friends and family. Just after you put another camel steak on the grill, you hear these clicking and whirring noises overhead.

You guickly jerk your head skywad in a panic. Overhead you eye this shinning silver looking UFO drone hovering 25ft over the grill, and your guest. Then, you see this secret sliding door opening. Your heart stops as you hear next, five, four, three...!

It is public info, so stalkers can stalk anyone by requesting the info. Police keep info several months. Spying on citizens .....so much for your rights! Cost are pretty high, banks and loan companies pushers of the system to they can reposes cars at public expense!
