By now, you've probably seen the pictures out of Spain of the 19 century painting of Jesus that was "restored" by a local grandmother after decades of damage and neglect. In the wake of her botched restoration, the picture has become a sensation, spawning some hilarious parodies around the Internet. NBC News' Duncan Golestani reports.
She became a viral Internet sensation last week, mocked for her botched restoration of a century-old fresco at her local church - but Cecila Giminez has still attracted a few fans.
Flowers are being left outside the elderly woman’s home in the village of Borja, north-eastern Spain, and the damaged painting has suddenly become a tourist attraction.
The 19th-century fresco, which used to depict Jesus until Giminez’s misguided intervention, is attracting so many tourists that it has now been roped off and is watched over by a security guard.
Tens of thousands of people have signed an online petition praising Giminez’s restoration as a “daring work” and even as “endearing and loving act, a clever reflection of the political and social situation of our time”.
The family of the painter, Elias Garcis Martinez, does not see it that way – especially as they had just agreed to make a donation to have the painting professionally restored.
I can paint that! Wait, no I can't! Amateur artist messes up century-old artwork
''Until now she just painted on the tunic but the problem started when she painted the head as well, because she has destroyed this painting,'' the artist’s granddaughter Teresa Garcia told Spanish television.
Giminez, who is in her 80s, said she was trying to improve the artwork, which had become damaged by moisture, and insisted she had the permission of the priest.
Ha!

A team of art restoration experts is reportedly examining the painting, will quiz Giminez on what materials she used in her attempt and will figure out how best to proceed.
In the meantime, the restoration has been mocked in a series of Internet parodies including a fake Twitter account.

Considering that humans descended from apes, this portrayal of Jesus speaks volumes! I applaud the restorers efforts in being able to cut through the lies and BS of organized religion with a simple paintbrush. There is more truth in her artistic efforts than in every organized religion on this planet. Darwin would have loved this.
Remember that with religious (magical) thinking, things are true unless proven false.
In the REAL WORLD, things are false unless proven true.
Organized religion was created to control the poor, the emotionally needy, and the less intelligent, while making religious leaders rich and powerful. In this regard it has been wildly successful. Religious leaders are against abortion because they depend upon a large populace of poor and uneducated in order to survive and bleed donations from the poor.
This wonderful restoration job is putting a smile on people's faces world-wide, and brings more joy than any mythological god ever will!
You're trying to equate her being a terrible artist with her trying to make a statement - and that really doesn't seem to be the fact.
You don't let an amateur "restore" old artwork - ever!
Remember that even a blind hog will find an acorn every now and then! Even a fool can say/do something brilliant by accident... as is the case with this genius retoration job.
It truly is a JOY to behold! (to say nothing of the message)
No, she destroyed this work. Granted, it was not a particularly important (or old) work, but that doesn't change the fact that some random granny should never take it on themselves to paint over an old work to "fix" it.
If she had done some parchment paper tracings of the original and then tried to recreate it on her own canvas or a wall prepared for a mural that would be one thing, but she painted right on the painting. That's nothing where a blind hog analogy fits - in any way!
They had to spend decades and millions of dollars fixing the "restoration" done over time to The Last Supper - whose "restorers" also had good intentions, but almost ruined the work in the process. They covered up most of the important details in the work when they casually tried to paint-by-numbers and "freshen it up".
"In the REAL WORLD, things are false unless proven true." ...well my friend I would hate to live in your REAL WORLD.
Personally I don't see how she is not in prison. There is only two possibilities for why she is not serving a sentence right now. One the priest who runs the church refuses to press charges, or two the painting had such low value at it's current condition that there would be no dollar amount attached to destroying it, yet even still they should have a graffiti law.
If I was religious which I'm not, I would say she should receive religious punishment via stoning to death or removal of her hands or both. Stone to death for defacing an imagine of Jesus (heresy and blasphemy), removal of hands for what is excentially theft/destruction of holy work.
Even without being holy I can furvently see that destorying someone's hard work who is now dead is just as bad as nazi's burning books, it goes without question that it is wrong no matter how well intentioned. A lot of killing as been done with good intentions, no matter the intention some things are wrong.
I think this shows that art should not be "restored." It is what is it is, and either you preserve it, let it deteriorate, or paint over it. There is no restoration. People try to pass off the last thing as restoration, but adding paint to an old painting doesn't remake the old painting; it makes a slightly different new painting. Which I guess is a good way to perpetuate an illusion of preservation.
I know some people don't share my ideas on this matter- I almost got thrown off of the Acropolis when I suggested to the tour guide that if Greece wasn't rebuilding the Parthenon, then maybe they should take all the scaffolding down.
She willfully destroyed someone else's property and she's being lauded by some for that? How is vandalism something to applaud?
That is just plain dumb. It's the value and history that is being preserved, not the paint that was on it before nothing but value and history. Things human beings cherish. It's not like a car or something that can just be remade. No for a painting they look for the exact color, the exact material used, it could be a little unknown berry mixed with 90 degree oil mixed with a % or something else and on and on. It's a science at that point, a historical search for what the ingredients could be. Then master craftsmen sit down to "restore" doesn't mean to make a whole new painting. It means to touch up where colors might have faded where things might have chipped. They present these things to the public for historical value, because they could just box these up for no one to see and preserve them in a cold dark place where they would keep far better. No these are presented for posterity.
As a car lover, personally I don't even like customization of vehicles and I do consider a car a work of art. Rethink all of what goes into the making of a vehicle. Quite a bit. Now think about what the original artist put into this painting. You cannot imagine how angry the defacement of this painting has made me. If you care anything about art, you should be angry, as well.
It was an 80 yr old woman and an okay painting, people need to stop crying over it.
Esp maniacs saying she should get stoned or her hands removed.
What's done is done and yes it looks horrible but whatever! I find it funny.
A painting could be presented as a poster for "poster"-ity, but modifying a painting, even by a master, changes the original painting into an old painting plus new spots. Paintings deteriorate over time. One can keep repainting it ever so often or accept fate, but there is no fountain of youth for people or paintings. If "restoration" truly made no difference, then a master painter could take an original painting, scrape the paint clean off the canvas, repaint it with period materials, then sell it off as the original.
It's like I have the axe George Washington used to cut down that cherry tree. The handle started to rot, so I had it replaced. Later, the head started to rust, so I replaced that, too. But this really is Washington's axe.
The painting shows that man evolved from apes... not an imaginary Jesus. Why is the truth such a problem for some people?
I hear they've hired Stevie Wonder to restore the Sistine Chapel.
just toss that UGLY pos INTO A FIRE,and call it a day
Appletoad--regardless of your obvious beliefs, that painting was sacred to the members of the church, and the descendants of the artist. It was a ridiculous situation. For the priest to let an 80-year old, non-artist to "restore" the painting? In my opinion, it's his fault. Oh, and please spare us your "we are descended from apes" deal. Yeah, we know that. That has nothing to do with this defacement of art. Oh, and by the by...Jesus wasn't imaginary. You can debate his status as the saviour, but he did exist. Stop while you're ahead. We're all pretty much laughing at you right now.
Feel free to make intelligent replies, if you see I am making a logical mistake, call me out and explain. However if you are just going to bash because you don't like what I am saying, your comment won't make a difference.
Appletoad,
Let's start with an anecdote, shall we?
An astronaut and a brain surgeon were having a spiritual discussion. The astronaut did not believe in any sort of god and said so to the brain surgeon. "I have been out into the 'heavens' and across the world and never once observed a god." The brain surgeon replied, "I have done many a brain surgery and never once observed a thought."
So if I am to accept your statement that "In the REAL WORLD, things are false unless proven true." then I can say that your thoughts are not true because they have not been proven existent. Of course you could argue on and on about that, but then again I believe that you do have intelligent thought, and thus the matter has no meaning.
However I would like to consider your statement from a different view. Since everything is false unless proven true, does that mean that the prior to the proof that the earth revolved around the sun, that the statement was false. You might argue that now that it has been proven, it is made always true, but that discounts historical perspective, and then also destroys the idea for ourselves. All it gives us is that what has been proven to be true is true, but gives us nothing about what is false, because if something is proven to be true in the future then that makes it true today. So I ask that you find a way to adjust your statement, unless you want to look rather foolish. Personally I think what is true is true, and what is false is false. We can't always know which is which, but that doesn't change the fact.
Onto the next point: Character of religious organizations.
You will probably be suprised to here that I agree with you, at least in part. A lot of people have used religion as a way to take advantage of other people, and it has given all religion a bad name. It is awful to be associated with the likes of those who go against the very things they claim to be advocating. I myself am a Christian and happily belong to a smaller church which has remained sound all the years I have attended. We do not live from ahnd to mouth, and we examine The Word for ourselves.
It seems though that while addressing the church is somewhat connected to the article, you also used it as a way to smuggle in politics, however you don't add to the views I have assumed to be yours by doing so, I will use your mention of abortion as an example.
After talking about the evils of the church you marked them as against abortion, thus giving an ill light to that side. In this you make it pretty obvious that you are for having the choice of abortion. I'm not going to get into a long winded dispute about the topic, i am simply going to say that since you already were having a spiteful attitude towards the church, it makes your stance seem to be solely based on that the church doesn't like it. In itself doing something just for the sake of upsetting someone else is pretty childish. And while it might not necessarily be the case, it is how you portray yourself. Do you think you will get much support when you seem childish and spiteful?
I'm a lover not a hater, I'm not trying to be mean here. Simply want you to realize that you're discrediting yourself with your approach. I'll leave it at that.
What this old woman did to the painting is a travesty. I do not understand how some self taught amateur could think that she had the skills required to restore work done by a master. At some point she must have realized that she was going astray but rather than stop she kept on going until she had completely destroyed the entire painting. I certainly hope that she used materials that can be removed so that the original artwork can be recovered. I realized that this was not an overly important painting, but it was important to the people of that area. The idea of it being destroyed beyond hope by some amateur with an inflated ego is unconscionable.
Well noted. Your comments with regard to poor and uneducated human beings reveal a lot about you.
Nobody ever figured Jesus might like it and kick your ass - the Trinity gang came up with the 'no judging' clause.
Jesus would have forgiven her... I know that I have.
I should bring my grandchildren to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. When they're finished, the line of tourists should reach completely around Manhattan!
OMG that Last Supper image is priceless...lmao!
spoken like a true atheist and pagan!
Hey I am a born again Heathen. Don't just ignore me and leave me out of this. LOL
Swear to God?
Born again Atheists and heathens are the worst kind....all they ever do is talk about "no god" "no hereafter" and when someone tries to cut in and talk about "geezus the one true god" they get mocked!! and throw all this science and factual stuff in their faces.....
I love it....keep up the good work!!
Problem is, the atheist don't have any factual stuff to fight with, just a bunch of nonsensical "theories" that change every three months. Although I admit, they do have a large following who believe them when they claim a big rock that existed from all time blew up from unknown reasons forming perfectly round space items that orbit untold galaxies with exact precision, and one of those objects formed humans and millions of species from slime... magically forming lungs instead of gills when they crawled out of the sea. Yep, makes perfect sense.
Timothy... By your post elementary school science was too taxing for you, let alone junior high, or high school science. You don't have a clue as to what a scientific theory is, and no they don't change theories every 3 months. Theories are tested often for their validity, and if you took and passed a science class with a grade of C, you would be familiar with not only that, but the difference in definition of what science deems a theory, and what religious people deem a theory. Science encompasses a very broad range of fields, physics, chemistry, biology etc, and overlaps such as biochemistry, or biophysics, but no scientist is claiming that biophysics is the explanation for plate tectonics etc. Religious myths were thought up to explain why things happened before there were scientific methods. Newton for instance was religious, but he studied the nature of light. Mendel was religious but studied the concept of genetic coding. Scientific investigations since Newton's or Mendel's time have furthered these fields, and today there exists technologies like lasers or the genetic engineering of plant species for food. Scientists have "intellectual stuff" to fight with, and so when you become a religious terrorist and look down on your chest and see that light dot from a laser sight, you can think back and thank Isaac Newton for playing around with prisms centuries ago, that science and technology is going to help you meet your maker, no matter what your religious persuasion AND the person aiming that laser sight might just possibly go to church too.
I'm a Catholic and find that Last Supper image equally hilarious. Did you not see that they replaced all the heads with the new Ecce Homo head?
tim, your exactly why i cant stand religion.yours is the stupidest post ive read today.atheist dont have any factual stuff to "fight" with.and you? you have a book and thats as far as you go.close mind, open book.you speak of untold galaxies.are they there just for our visual enjoyment? must be.becuase god created everything in 6 days, including man.no mention of any lifeforms anywhere eles.so yes, trillions of stars just for background decoration for us animated dustbulls.actually, your thought processes seem to be the"big bang" in reverse.
Gravity
Gravity, again
How often do you play the lottery? If you played the lottery billions or trillions of times, wouldn't you expect to win at least once? What do you think happened on earth? We hit the life-forming jackpot.
It's not magic. Do you know evolution works? It's not a process that occurs within 1 generation. Over hundreds of thousands of generations, organisms with positive traits survive longer and reproduce more. These positive traits then turned into something that allowed aquatic organisms to slowly move onto land. It wasn't overnight, and it wasn't magical.
I agree, it does make sense.
I like trains.
Maybe it's actually a miracle. After all, if a picture of Jesus can appear in a grilled cheese sandwich, why can't a monkey appear in a picture of Jesus?
When are we gonna be able to buy the T-shirts?
Could it be that God, made not only Earth but other Planets with intelligent life form and their own bible as well? Who says he has to answer to you. Maybe there is a reason that he doesn't include in the bible other life forms. Maybe b/c it doesn't apply to us b/c we will never meet these other species. And I do believe He has put a lot on Earth and off Earth for us to study. Imagine how boring life would be with nothing to explore or debate. God knows our needs more then we do. He knows our minds need stimulation. So he gave us beautiful unexplainable things to study. I believe the same goes for why we have so many religions. Maybe I'm Christian and not Catholic b/c the teachings of Christianity I connect with more, maybe being Catholic didn't fill my spiritual need. So different religions for people with different spiritual needs. As far as the violent religions, anyone can say we are "religious" and use that as a reason to do the horrible things they do, that doesn't make them a legitimate religion under God. I have never understood if Atheists do not believe in God, they say a "fairy in the sky" then why get upset about it. If a bunch of ppl came up to me and said, we believe that at night sheep turn into bats that attack humans. I wouldn't go off on a protest and make up signs saying there are no sheep that turn into bats. I would laugh and prob. not even give it another thought since I believe 100% that doesn't exist. I think with atheists they have a hollowness they can't fill, and it makes them angry that other ppl have found a way to fill that emptiness through God. They are jealous we have something that comforts us in times of trouble. I think deep down atheists know God exists and the anger comes from the fact they can never convince themselves 100% God doesn't exist. And even if you don't believe in God, tell me whats wrong with believing in the 10 commandments. If everyone followed those commandments, whether man made or by God, would the world still not be a MUCH better place to live. Let's say God doesn't exist again, isn't it better to follow parts of the bible about not judging and helping the poor. About putting other ppl's needs before your own? There are many great parts of the bible even for non believers that could do nothing but improve society as a whole. And if you read some of the passages where Jesus speaks in parables, you will realize there is no ordinary human that is that insightful, esp. back then before education. Jesus said things no man could come up with, they are so profound. Just some food for thought.
remaids me of those people who come on american idol who think they could sing. who told this lady she could paint.
William Hung was the best idol ever! She Bang! I heard idol paid for him to get some singing lessons, I hope the church will pay for this old lady's painting lessons.
johnnyfresno-AMEN!!
Stupid old woman.....
They keep calling this a "botched restoration attempt," but I'm not sure I see it that way; the art style is too different, and the overpainting too complete. No, it's not your classical depiction of Jesus, but that doesn't make it some hideous, sacrilegious mockery. Whatever the old lady's intentions, art is art, and this piece of art now has an interesting story behind it.
It won't be interesting unless there is some way to restore the original art. Until then, it is nothing but vandalism by an old woman vandal.
Impossible, but so it was before. Either they can keep the painting as is, or commission a new painting in the style of the old. Is it more important for the Church that the painting be "old," or that it be a unblemished painting of Jesus?
appletoad says: "
Considering that humans descended from apes, this portrayal of Jesus speaks volumes! I applaud the restorers efforts in being able to cut through the lies and BS of organized religion with a simple paintbrush. There is more truth in her artistic efforts than in every organized religion on this planet. Darwin would have loved this.

This wonderful restoration job is putting a smile on people's faces world-wide, and brings more joy than any mythological god ever will!"
One sort of has to agree I think... Anyhow Jesus would have forgiven the old woman. Perhaps we should too.
OMG!!! J.C. looks like a gorilla with a shave. The Pope should have this woman burned at the stake for such sacrilege.
That was the church's fault.
Why did it take so long to raise money for a restoration? The family of the artist should have tried harder to restore it before it got to the state that it was in. They say they were raising money but I would be willing to bet that this fundraiser didn't start until after the media hype. She did her best and all the critics that criticize her didn't do anything to help restore the painting. Of course all the high and mighty art critics would expect to be paid a lot of money to restore it. They always love art if it will line their pockets and if no money is to be made they do not consider it top be art. She did her best, leave her alone!
So i someone came to your house and decided to paint it without your permission, or to paint your car, or to restore your house, and they ruined it, you'd be okay with that, Mike? I doubt it. She vandalized someone else's property. She had no permission and therefore no right to do what she did.
QUOTE: " decided to paint it without your permission,"
It is said that she had the priest's permission.
I don't see it that way, either - for a few reasons.
This was a priceless work of art.
This was an antique.
For those of you making jokes about this, what would your reaction be had this over aged vandal "restored" the Mona Lisa???
Nice that some think this is a joke. What would your reaction be had she done this to something that you - YES, YOU - treasured, loved and respected such as your President; your Prime Minister; your Mom; your child. Pick someone / something. Are you still laughing???
Yes, I am laughing my azz off at you for being such an aggressive complete and total ignoramus, writing about a subject you clearly know nothing about. And BTW, this is no Mona Lisa!
Obviously you did not read the article carefully and know nothing about art values. This painting had little value. It has a greater value now that it has been "fixed" and in that it sends an accurate message about the origins of humans as they are today. Also, just being antique does not make a painting valuable. Paintings hundreds of years old regularily sell in international auctions for under $2,000.
This was not a "priceless" piece of art. It is a painting of the mythological Jesus by an very minor and unimportant artist/painter. It is of little to any value even perfect. Acetone or other solvents will quickly remove the new overpaint at minimal cost... although this is a great opportunity for a crooked retorer to make a big deal out of fixing it, and greatly overcharge for what is a simple job. The acetone will remove the new paint but will leave the old original paint underneath as it was before the touch up/restoration.
This is not rocket science!
Personally I like it better the way it is now.
STILL LAUGHING AT YOU!!!
Hey chill. I was laughing at how delusional this old lady was. Yes I am upset that a century old work of art is ruined but putting this old lady in prison will not undo her deed.
But appletoad, I'd bet you'd be screaming mad if some kid painted your car pink with sparkles :-)
You say this ONLY because you hate the subject matter. That's been made quite clear.
Just what do you know about art??? Is your sense of value only monetary??? There's your rocket science.
Do you really think that your childish insults would upset me??? Wrong. I'm the one laughing at you. You've just shown your true colors.
Ye, yes I would still be laughing if she did something like this to my president or mother. Could you imagine seeing an elderly woman approachthe president of the United States (who always has security around him by the way)shouting out "Sir. Sir. Mr. President let me paint a picture on your face of your face".... So yes seeing her do this to someone in a repected position would be a laughing matter because they are people and at that point would be allowing something like this happen to them. The problem is that this woman wasn't stopped in the middle of her "work". With all the people claiming blasphemy you'd think this church is filled and people just watched as this happend.
To my eyes, the original was a piece of 19th century kitsch. Whatever the sentimental values to churchgoers and to the artist's family, t was not highly original or creatively rendered. That's not to say it's on a level with a velvet painting on sale in an abandoned gas station. cCaims that the "restorer" has given us a newly wonderful interpretation of the subject overlook the fact that it IS similar to a badly done velvet painting.
Religious zealots are purposely destroying significant architecture in Timbuktu, just as they dynamited Buddhist statues elsewhere more than a decade ago. Those are genuine losses of cultural and spiritual value. This act of a well-intentioned but untalented and possibly deluded old woman doesn't deserve the attention it's getting.
How soon will somebody start a fund to collect a million or so dollars to reward yet another fool who can't do something right?
lonesome george-3335313, don't you like pink sparkly cars?
On appletoad- (I swear I'm not picking on you)
Appletoad, While you certainly seem to understand the restoration process, it seems your history is lacking. Jesus was a real person, lived, and died on the cross. He is not mythological. It is a historical fact. It is proven true. You may not believe that he was an honest person or who he said he was, but that does not make him 'mythological'. I'm not going to debate Christianity and the belief that he was and did the things recorded in the bible, I'm simply setting the record straight. And also as a note, if you were to respond to this and say 'then fine, it is simply a painting of another man' then realize that I would respond by asking you to name another man who turned the world upside down and had a lasting impact for not just hundreds, but thousands of years. But I'm sure your smart enough not to, because quite frankly he is a man that you seem very keen to bash. Of course the more you bash the more it is remembered and known.
"Sir. Sir. Mr. President let me paint a picture on your face of your face" Holy @!$%# that was funny!
Chefaz-you comments are right on the mark, especially regarding the ignorance of "Toad". The painting may not have been the Mona Lisa, but it was priceless to the family of the painter and loved by the parishoners of the church. I liked Lonesome George's comments about "Toad"'s car being painted pink with sparkles by some kid. He has indeed shown his true colors.
I have no art training at all and I could have done a better job than what Granny did.
two things old people in their 80s cannot do: operate a motor vehicle safely and paint.
Well Matisse painted well into his 80's and Grandma Moses didn't start to pain until she was in her 80's. I do agree with the driving though.
Wow, I never realized that MSN was so ardently anti-Catholic (and therefore anti-Christian).
MS' Bill Gates is a Catholic and yet his website not only delights in this travesty but they show it imposed on the last supper?
Frankly, this Spanish lady must be a conversos (Jew) with deep hatred for the Catholic Church.
Pray for her soul!
you're even more delusional than the old lady who ruined the painting. At least her intention was good but you're just full of bigotry; far from the teachings of Jesus.
Bill Gates is an atheist.
Matt-998651<--- Is a hardazz that just wants to see an 80 year old lady beaten to death! And if he can kill a few (Jews) for an intro he can go out with a bang blowing up some computers and there you have a skinhead Performance extraordinaire!
Oh Ima gonna love this part! Hey ( Matt-998651) Christ was a Jew dumnazz! And gess what God is not a Jew or Christian! And is probably up there right this second thinking Matt-998651<-- is so fuked!
Matt, that is one of the most astonishingly stupid things I've read lately, and that's saying a lot considering the amount of crap that is dished out here regularly in family-sized helpings.
I haven't stopped laughing since I first read this a few days ago. This old lady is obvious delusional/grandiose thinking she can paint like the old masters. I'd be really ticked if someone were to ruin my grandfather's artwork but what can they do? Put a grandiose old lady in prison? The Last Supper spin off is equally hilarious.
I know, right? I swear it gets funnier every time I see it. Yes, it's sad that someone's work was ruined, but it's also pretty danged funny. Seriously--who just wakes up one morning and says "You know, I have no background in art or restoration, and no artistic talent to speak of, but I'VE GOT THIS!"
Folks ... LIGHTEN UP!! ... O.K. it's not everyone's cup of tea. But to many it is still deeply humanely funny and touching.
And if some of you will stop hyperventilating you will also realize that it is also an expression of Love from a well-meaning, nice old lady - and that itself should (O.K. sit tight) be embraced as art by those who care to open their hearts.
It looks like Snooki with an AFaroooooo! And what a co - incidence they put it right beside of her!
I will agree that Snooki is less evolved from the ape than normal humans....
I think its ugly all the way around.
What is done cannot be undone. It's a shame, but let's move on.
The REAL message here is that man is evolved from apes, not some mythological magical god.
This old granny is a GENIUS and should paint more versions of this on canvas and start selling them.
The painting could be called This is Our God
TOO FUNNY!!!
Hey "Toad"-you need to read the comment by "Love Don't Hate". Jesus was not a mythological magical person-he was real and billions of people worship him for what he did-bringing the masses together under one religion and dying on the cross for his beliefs. Like she said, this is a PROVEN FACT.
You people are just ridiculousness, all of you, but especially VOLOMON. This is an example of how we put material things above the worth of human life. The woman made an honest mistake, and some of you want to stone her, cut off her hands, and who knows what else. And shes 80 years old for god's sake. Have some compassion, it was only a painting.
Oh hell, if this were a potato chip with a likeness of Jesus these pathetic people would show up and worship it, so it's hardly shocking they would make it a priority stop on vacation.
Organized religion is the TRUE root of all evil.
Remember that with magical (religious) thinking, things are true unless proven false.
In the REAL world, things are false unless proven true.
It is common knowledge that man decended from the apes. In terms of being factual, this painting is accurate!
So you're going to be the one who proves that Jesus wasn't an actual teacher of religion who died on the cross for his beliefs, bringing billions of people together. I think that YOU are the true root of all evil. I suppose you were there 2012 years ago when Jesus was alive to know that the depiction of his likeness on the painting is accurate. You're the one with the "magical thinking".
ROFL!!! OMG!!! I can't stop laughing!!! The botched job is very likely to be more valuable now than it ever was!!!
Gotta love it. Made my day!! jajajajaj
I love your point of view OKWhatNow. People are taking this way too serious.
This is funny as heck. It will be even funnier if they are able to restore the original--then we can laugh without having to cry at the same time.
There are a few things to consider here... First of all, I don't understand how the lady got as far as she did with the painting. It is a "fresco"; it's part of the wall. It's not like she could have said, "Give me two weeks; I'll take it home and fix it." Someone HAD to have been there to notice her doing it... How did she get so far without someone stopping her the moment she made a mis-stroke?
Secondly, God works in mysterious ways. What is perhaps a botched piece of artwork may now be a much needed boon for that particular church.
Lastly, I'm sure the woman didn't intend to botch it up and did it with good intentions and while the painting may now be ruined (if it can't be restored), I'm sure that Jesus himself didn't take offense to it and probably got a good laugh out of it knowing her heart was in doing a good deed.
We've had similar same results with #44 claiming he to could be a President.
Epic failure.
Idiot.
