U.S. suspends training for some Afghan recruits after 'insider' attacks

In the wake of attacks on NATO soldiers, the U.S. has stopped training local Afghan police for a month. Retired Col. Jack Jacobs reports that the mission to train local police may take longer than the political will. NBC's Lester Holt has more.

KABUL, Afghanistan -- United States military officials have suspended the training of Afghan Local Police (ALP) in the wake of a deadly series of so-called ‘green on blue’ attacks by Afghan soldiers and police on their international allies.

In a statement late Saturday, Col. Thomas Collins, US Forces Afghanistan spokesperson, said the training has been put on hold in order to carry out intensified vetting procedures on new recruits, and 16,000 existing ALP recruits will be re-vetted.

The shooting deaths of two American soldiers in Kabul by an Afghan colleague are under investigation, with Afghan officials are saying it was an accident. NBC's Atia Abawi reports.

“While we have full trust and confidence in our Afghan partners, we believe this is a necessary step to validate our vetting process and ensure the quality indicative of Afghan Local Police," he said in the statement.

What's leading Afghan troops to turn on coalition forces?

Many of the 'insider' incidents might have been prevented if existing security measures had been applied correctly, according to the Washington Post which first reported the training suspension.

The newspaper said already-trained recruits would also be re-vetted.

"Current partnered operations have and will continue, even as we temporarily suspend training of about 1,000 new ALP recruits while re-vetting current members," said the statement. “Despite the recent rise in insider attacks, they are relatively rare."

Hoshang Hashimi / AP

More than ten years after the beginning of the war, Afghanistan faces external pressure to reform as well as ongoing internal conflicts.

Forty-five allied troops have been killed in 34 ‘insider’ attacks this year alone. The Afghan army is implicated in 19 of those attacks, but their training will not be halted.

Last week, an Afghan soldier shot and killed two American soldiers on Monday during a dispute in Laghman province in Afghanistan.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta called Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Aug 19 to express concern over the issue, urging him to work with U.S. commanders to ensure more rigorous vetting of Afghan recruits. Panetta’s intervention followed the 10th death of a U.S. service member at the hands of Afghan recruit in the space of just two weeks.

A U.S. military official says three American service members were killed and one was wounded after a gunman opened fire on them. NBCNews.com's Dara Brown reports.

ALP training is a U.S. mission, carried out by Special Forces. Training of uniformed police and army personnel is done under the banner of the NATO operation.

The first mistake was believing that, somehow, our enemies want to be our "partners". Hillary is fond of going around talking about "partnering" and such non-sense. It is the liberal way of deluding yourself into believing your enemies are your friends. "Vet" them all you want, it won't change a thing. And lying politicians, like Mr. Obama, should realize that it doesn't matter how many questions you ask, or in what manner, they are still going to lie and kill American soldiers at every chance they are given. If Mr. Obama really wants to win in Afghanistan, he needs to take the handcuffs off of our troops and stop treating them as if they were police in the streets of Chicago on community relations detail, instead of the greatest soldiers in the world fighting a war. If he is not willing to do that, the troops should be brought home immediately.

In the meantime, we here at home can show our support for the troops by firing Mr. Obama in Nov. What better gift could we give them just before the holidays!

I don't blame these people for hating us, live your life and stop trying to tell others how to live theirs would be a good place to start.

BTW, all you Republican bashers have to remember that Mr. Obama is in charge of this war, not Republicans. Mr. Obama is the one who expanded the war in Afghanistan (in a half-assed manner) and he is the on that has termed it a "war of necessity". Yet he is conducting it like a community relation detail. Stop making excuses for his incompetence. If there is one thing Mr Obama excels at, it is making lame excuses and placing blame elsewhere instead of taking responsibility.

Sunk

Just to clarify something, obama has talked about base closings in democratic districs and the representatives became unglued with your president. The military industrial complex that all you screaming liberals scream about, admittedly has it's flaws, but look at the politicians that use the military improperly.

Kennedy and Johnson left us with many more deaths in Viet Nam than Bush has in Afghanistan. Talk about a complex. Johnson was picking the targets and setting the rules of engagemnet like he had miltary training.

I disagreed with Bush going into Iraq. Bush should have scorched Afghanistan, killed bin laden, then left them to fend for themselves.

KingK: In case you have forgotten, it was not "liberals" who started the invasion and subsequent training of Afghans, unless you consider President George W. Bush a liberal. Many of you conservatives talk tough and conveniently forget who started these two wars, one based on the imminent threat of non existent WMDs in Iraq. Now, you will vote for a man who has his investments in tax havens like Switzerland and the Cayman Islands and never served a day in the armed forces of our country when there was a war in Vietnam. He was even an anti-war demonstrator. I think the word is "chicken hawk" to describe Romney. FYI, the President has killed more than four times the terrorists including Osama bin Laden than his predecessor. If you have been following the news for the past thirty days, the rules of engagement have changed dramatically in Afghanistan to allow our troops to take preemptive action. The withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan has already commenced in case you missed that too.

So does that mean Obama has to continue doing what G Bush started? I thought Obama was in charge now, not G Bush! I thought Obama was going to change everything, not continue with the same. Boy, you Obama hacks must truly believe the guy has no spine whatsoever. He can't do anything on his own or change anything, is that what you are saying? Or is G. Bush secretly in the background pulling the puppet strings attached to Mr Obama? Stop making excuses for his failure, G Bush is long gone. I don't believe for a second that mitt romney will tell his rich kids to enlist in any branch to go fight the iranians, so they, the republicans shall stop running their mouths about going to war in all of the middle east.

U.S. suspends training for some Afghan recruits after 'insider' attacks

And another failed policy of Barrack Hussein is exposed.

The "Right War" has turned into an embarrassment. The man who vowed to do what it takes to win, who said Bush took his eye off the ball, who said that he would listen to the commanders, who said that winning was a cause that could not be more just and has to be our BIGGEST national security issue, now capitulates to a rag-tag group of terrorists.

As Barrack Hussein "dithered" with the troop surge, dismissing the military's recommendations for his own ideology, this "war" has deteriorated into a cluster f**k of confusion. More than two-thirds of the deaths in Afghanistan have occurred under his watch and continue at an accelerating pace even as our engagements decrease. Our Rules of Engagement have been replaced with typical Liberal/Progressive political correctness. The strongest military in history has been reduced to bumbling apologists to people with little more than a kindergarten education.

Despite the medias attempts to run cover for Barrack Hussein, his incompetence continues. No running daily death counts on CNN, no Liberal protests, no daily coverage by media darlings reporting from the "ground" and our troops are abandoned. Another failure of leadership has resulted in this submission.

The only claim to fame is the assassination of Osama Porn Laden. This was purely symbolic as Al Qaeda and the Taliban are obviously just as strong today as they were over a year ago. This "war of necessity" has been reduced to the occasional photo-op and mention when some filler material is needed on the campaign trail.

The Middle East has become a mess with one nation after another being infiltrated with Islamic fundamentalists. The Muslim Brotherhood expands its brand of terror throughout one collapsing regime after another. Al Qaeda, well funded and well armed, disproves all the claims of winning this "kinetic military action". The Taliban easily infiltrates our forces with suicide bombers and "green on blue" attacks.

From a missed opportunity during the "Green Revolution" in Iran, to our current capitulation to tribal warriors in Afghanistan, Barrack Hussein has failed miserably. Our repeated bloviating about killing the "second" and "third" in command is ridiculous as just more and more "second" and "third" in command reappear.

As our economy continues to collapse with all the rest of our domestic policies this shameful foreign policy embarrasses us on the global stage. As Barrack Hussein and his idolaters concentrate on such insignificant problems as tax returns and providing birth control so college bimbo's can enjoy recreational sex, our once bright future collapses.

The social experiment of an inexperienced and incompetent community organizer whose only accomplishment before becoming the most powerful man in the world was writing a few books, about himself, must come to a conclusion. The horrible mistake of 2008 must be corrected before our domestic and foreign policy are reduced to total insignificance.

Just because the Liberal/Progressive ideology of our Confabulator in Chief and his cabal is failing doesn't mean our great Republic must. It's obvious we need new effective leadership that believes in American exceptionalism rather than blaming everyone else and demonizing our success. The time has come for real change, otherwise our only solution will be more hope that won't happen.

Well Mr. Spence, that was about as complete and correct an assessment of our situation as I've seen.

Radical Islam caused these wars, not Dems or Repubs. The fact that we are trying to make friends with them, support them in taking over nations in Africa and the Middle East and portray the ones who are here as mainstream, peace loving Americans who just want to get along, is suicidal.

This incompetent and failed administration, with it's egos and agendas, has had it's a$$ handed to it. Our feel good, hugs and kisses, flower child approach to foreign policy, is getting good American boys shot in the back everyday.

I will be so glad when Obama has been kicked to the curb in November. Maybe we can begin to return to respectability and sanity. Maybe all of the Obama worshipers will shut up for a minute. They sound like 10 year olds with no clue of how the world really works and I'm tired of hearing it. It's like having spent 4 long years in a kindergarten class.

This has become absurd. The Afghan government of Karzai has little control within the capital of Kabul and no control what-so-ever outside of the capital. To appeal to Karzai to do anything about the vetting of local police recruits is ridiculous. There is no way that we are going to be able to keep the Taliban from infiltrating the local police or the Afghan military for that matter. It is time to give up on the idea of nation building in Afghanistan and leave the people to their own devices. It really does not matter how much longer we stay, the country is going to descend into chaos with the only government being local warlords or tribal chiefs within a matter of weeks or at most months of the US military departure.

The Republican lies and stupidity are THE cause of the problem.

If Obama had totally pulled out of Afghanistan without getting rid of Bin Laden, the catalyst for the Afghan cesspool would have remained in power.

If Obama had pulled out of Afghanistan without trying to find a "military solution" the GOP dick-heads would have accused him of "cut and running" since the Number One GOP tactic is not finding solutions (or even accepting solutions) but finding everything and anything possible to criticize and embarrass President Obama.

The solution to Afghanistan (and likely the ONLY solution) is to turn the country over to China and have 250,000 UN Sanctioned "Peace Keepers" from China seal the borders and disarm the country and burn the heroin crop (which is the major source of revenue for the Russian mob since heroin addiction is now worse than alcoholism in Russia).

China can then open up the rare earth mining in NE Afghanistan which could make the country very prosperous and provide the mineral resources the world needs for the 21st Century.

China won the war in Vietnam. Its time that China won a war for us.

I am getting confused here about USA attacking another country like Afghanistan, where Bush wanted to show he could handle what the Soviets could not either (and protect the "vital" oil pipeline going through)--and now somehow this attack on Afghanistan 10 years ago is Obama fault??? please take your meds, will you?

Oh, I forgot; I guess there might have been too many cut backs on those meds in this super Bush ERA (?--which btw we are just now are getting the real effects from; nothing changes overnight, after the law has been passed-

It is shocking here to see poor people (under 100,000 total worth ) sit here every day by the thousands and dish seen from Republican side--when the only thing Rep. want is just that, so the rich can get enough votes so they can take power, like 100-300 years ago in EU, and people ran away from that and went here. Republicans have no interest in those people, (with the possible exception of being customers for products), that is why they get you to discuss abortion and religion and a few scattered wars which US instigated-- every time instead of actually talking about the finances and the services required for a big country like this, but they do not really want to tell you that the money is all over the globe where no one can find it, and they are setting up big time to have everything manufactured outside USA, and this in spite of the prices here are actually about 2.3 times less than EU average for everything, I was asked to come here, but my old country the min wage is well over 20 Dollars, so why is it we can not make anything here anymore compared to real Western countries--

If the regular Joe, saw how every invoice is being sent landing on/in many countries (on its way here) for products we sell, and buy, before the "paperwork" actually lands here you would be amazed--we are talking Trillions here every year------did I mention something called tax evasion--?-

Yes, I am above 100,000 K (and should be Republican then right? (yes, I am right handed))---I wish though we had a scientific/account party (new) for everything instead of constant 2 parties with stupid black and white politics non factual based, this is being used to sway the public to get a\the low educated for a majority.--Government should be like a company, no politics at all!--and yes we should be adjusting for world competition with customs and subsidies, like many organized countries do all the time, but it is not working here.

Oh no, what does this mean for the TAPI gas pipeline, which was supposed be a joint American- Israeli project to transport Israeli owned gas from Turkmenistan, - Afghanistan - Pakistan and on to India? The TAPI gas pipeline was the real reason we went to Afghanistan in the first place and perhaps the real reason for 9/11was successful. Inside help was needed to make sure we had a valid excuse for the war on terror and the subsequent invasion of Afghanistan. The neocons needed an excuse to for the US to invade Afghanistan and remove the Taliban from power, because the Taliban would not permit the pipeline to be built.

GWEN IFILL:
Senator Graham, are there elements in this report, which are classified that
Americans should know about but can't?

SEN. BOB
GRAHAM: Yes, going back to your question about what was the greatest surprise.
I agree with what Senator Shelby said the degree to which agencies were not
communicating was certainly a surprise but also I was surprised at the evidence
that there were foreign governments involved in facilitating the activities of
at least some of the terrorists in the United States.

I am stunned
that we have not done a better job of pursuing that to determine if other
terrorists received similar support and, even more important, if the
infrastructure of a foreign government assisting terrorists still exists for
the current generation of terrorists who are here planning the next plots.

To me that is
an extremely significant issue and most of that information is classified, I
think overly-classified. I believe the American people should know the extent
of the challenge that we face in terms of foreign government involvement. That
would motivate the government to take action.

GWEN IFILL:
Are you suggesting that you are convinced that there was a state sponsor behind
9/11?

SEN. BOB
GRAHAM: I think there is very compelling evidence that at least some of the
terrorists were assisted not just in financing -- although that was part of it
-- by a sovereign foreign government and that we have been derelict in our duty
to track that down, make the further case, or find the evidence that would
indicate that that is not true and we can look for other reasons why the
terrorists were able to function so effectively in the United States.

GWEN IFILL:
Do you think that will ever become public, which countries you're talking about?

SEN. BOB
GRAHAM: It will become public at some point when it's turned over to the
archives, but that's 20 or 30 years from now. And, we need to have this
information now because it's relevant to the threat that the people of the
United States are facing today.

I wonder why we won't publish the names of the foreign government, that assisted the terrorists. Hmmm.

It was exactly that kind of laissez faire attitude that created the current Afghan problem. After the Soviets left Afghanistan if the US (and other countries) had provided more aid, built schools, and established infrastructure there wouldn't have been the fertile ground for terrorist groups to blossom. We were extremely short sighted and this is the price we paid.

I don't know where some of you people are getting the incorrect idea that the wars in Iraq-especially Iraq-, and Afghanistan are somehow the fault of the current administration.

Liberals, you need to get off the tit of the media. Educate yourself. Quit being so damn lazy and research for yourself. Have an open mind, but I am thinking it's too late for that. You have been programmed.

and the major corporation owners and bank/insurance company/investment firms (you know, the same people who Romney and Obama both get their campaign contributions from and who they take their marching orders from) are sitting back and laughing at all of you fools because you are exactly where they want you to be, divided down the illusion of political party lines. Nothing will change until you morons pull your heads outta your butts and realize our government is a corporate puppet but that means you're all going to have to quit arguing like a bunch of petulant children about who is right and who is wrong. If you stepped back and looked at the things you were writing here you would see just how much you look like idiots on both sides of the political coin.

but it was GW Bush that put this stupid doctrine in place by inlisting the locals to help us and for putting Karzai in charge. It's so funny to read comments from idiots like you blaming Obama for not fixing all the problems that Bush created.

The Republican lies and stupidity are THE cause of the problem

Obama wanted to draw US troops and have them all home before 2012....but the GOP and the Pentagon was whining like little babies...

it was not "liberals" who started the invasion and subsequent training of Afghans, unless you consider President George W. Bush a liberal

It is obvious that deep down inside Obama's band of sycophants know he is incompetent and completely lacking in leadership capabilities. Obama is CinC. Not Bush, not the "Republicans, not the "military industrial complex". Like all things Obama has attempted as President, he's failed to meet the standards.

Can't do that, KeenInsight; this pizzpoor excuse for a commander-in-chief has simply put a hold on the war, and left our troops hanging out to dry, while he runs for reelection. I mean, who cares that our finest are still getting killed every week, when job one right now is getting this corksucker reelected.

I'm really sick of President Bush making Barrack ruin our country and I'm sick of President Bush breaking all of Barrack's promises. One thing is for sure, as long as Barrack's in the White House, SO IS PRESIDENT BUSH! The only way to get rid of Bush is to fire Barrack. I'm pretty sure if we take Barrack out of the White House, Bush will leave too. So, in November of 2012, let’s get rid of Bush once and for all!

Bye Bye Libbies!

Why we are there in the first place, and why it will be hard to leave:

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/14/world/asia/14minerals.html?_r=1&pagewanted=all

The Russians discovered and mapped vast mineral wealth in AFG. The US "discovered" the "lost" maps/surveys. This vast mineral wealth is the reason why we stick it out, both to secure it for corporate America and to keep the Chinese from getting it.

Once we were to be out of there, when it became really way too politically challenging even for a Republican, the Chinese, who have fewer, if any, domestic political challenges to their plans for regional hegemony would be all over it. They don't think of their army as home-grown heroes, but as warm bodies/cannon fodder to put in place (see Tibet). Then they would send in the civilians, and soon AFG will be majority Han Chinese. To China, it's "manifest destiny."

Fundamentalist Islamist terrorism would be neutralized somewhat, at least in AFG. The Islamists would be longing for the "democracy" they spurn. Pakistan would rattle its swords/nukes, and India would harden its borders, especially on its northern border and in Kashmir. (Did you know that China controls part of Kashmir already?)

When/if we leave we would need to increase military support for India, which would be just about the only pluralistic and democratic society left in the East.

Damned if we do, damned if we don't.

Good luck to Obama, 2012

"While we have full trust and confidence in our Afghan partners..."

Don't.

Sure there is the good guys who do fight the Taliban, but since we can't differentiate between the good and the bad guys, and this is putting all NATO soldiers at risk, they shouldn't trust any of them. Not to mention that training them seems equivalent to training WW2 german soldiers, it will probably turn against us (even more) as the bad guys not only get the training, but they get the equipment and weapons too.

(p.s. sorry if this has already been said, I didn't read all the posts)

This decision was long overdue. Commonsense would indicate that these 'trainees' are jihadists and Taliban sympathisers. Why on earth would anyone with half a brain not see that after the first group of US soldiers were killed? Hillary and Obama are too busy being 'friends' with the enemy.

mygirl1....."Hillary and Obama are too busy being 'friends' with the enemy."

Heck, the Secretary of the State even has a Chief of Staff whose mother is deeply involved in the Muslim Brotherhood:

Saleha Mahmood Abedin, the mother of Hillary Clinton’s chief of staff, reportedly served in the women’s division of the Muslim Brotherhood alongside the wife of Egypt’s new president, the Brotherhood’s Mohammed Mursi.

http://www.wnd.com/2012/06/hillary-tied-to-new-muslim-brotherhood-president/

Further, now we know why Mr. Obama and his administration invited an Egyptian Islamic Extremist/Terrorist representative to visit the White House:

Now you know the rest of the story when it comes to Mr. Obama supporting the "Arab Spring-Winter-Summer-Fall" in the Middle East countries. The Muslim Brotherhood is on footing to insert themselves within each fallen government.

Now our military has to "defend" themselves against Taliban Afghanistan police/military insertions.

Wait a minute.....Mr. Obama supports our brave members of the armed forces.

Wait another minute.....Mr. Obama plans on "stripping" the military if he is re-elected.

Now, little hypocrites, guess you think it was ok for all those soldiers to be killed? You obviously must believe that because you aren't condemning the regime that has allowed those soldiers to suffer through such a wrong-headed policy and that regime started january of 09.

Sam627556- Maybe so but the REPUBLICANS created the hate America has to deal with,

but...but...but...but....Republicans.

WRONG Sam627556.

Posts exactly like yours are why I actually now agree with Candidate Obama's Verbal Contract (Campaign Promise) to decrease the numerous deployments of the 1% of US Citizens of the US Military, by instituting a Selective Service and or Mandatory Compulsory US Military Service to Force the 92% of US Citizens that have NEVER Served to Serve in the US Military, as "US Military Service is a Civic Duty" and "US Citizenship is not an Entitlement". That way most of you will then have Firsthand Experience pertaining to the CURRENT US Military just like WWII when everyone had immediate Family in the US Military.

Eventhough, I ended up with a Selective Service Card, and was calling in Airstrikes at Plei Can, and have Firsthand Personal Experience with the problems of Selective Service, I say to President Obama FULL FILL YOUR VERBAL CONTRACT, Start the Selective Service and or Mandatory Compulsory US Miitary Service; as with your April 2009 Defense Budget Cuts of the USAF and USN, that means NO CUSH SAFER USAF (on a secure AFB) AND USN (on a ship or boat thousands of miles away) JOB, with all "Draftees" ending up in the US Army or USMC as Ground Combat Forces; yes, that includes women.

The Hatred of the US by the "Islamic World" started after President Clinton Ordered the Bombing and Cruise Missile Attacks of the Urban Poor Areas of Baghdad during his 1998 Operation Desert Fox. In WRITING we warned him that YOU DO NOT MESS WITH THE POOR OF ISLAM, as those "Boots on the Ground" that would have to do the Target Damage Assessments, since we were not allowed to do the Targeting. His lame excuse was that if the Iraqis Government is targeted then there will be no one left to negotiate Peace.

THE RESULT OF PRESIDENT CLINTON AS COMMANDER IN CHIEF ORDERS: The Islamic World and the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran declared the US "THE GREAT SATAN".

The Imams at the Mosques Worldwide start to encourage more Fundamentalist Islamic Believers to join the Fundamentalist Islamic Jihad against the Great Satan and the Great Satan's Allies (actual translation would be minions).

He @!$%#ed UP & Sunk the GNOP - I am sure this makes the families of the fallen feel reeeeeeal good. Republicans and their Wars to support the Military Industrial Complex.

Get off your arse, start a petition, start demonstrations, to close all the US Military Installations including those you don't know about, in your State.

The US Military does NOT benefit from the US Military Defense Industrial Complex as previously created by President FDR to get the US out of the 1929-1939 Great Depression 1939 before US Entry into WWII 1941 thru the Sales of War Materials to England, France, Russia, China, and anyone else with money; the almost hundred million overpaid expensive US Citizens are the ONLY ones that benefit.

Let the US Military Buy Better more Modern stuff from the Chinese and Russian Federation, no more paying a "Fair and Living Wage" like $275 in Labor for an expensive overpaid US Citizens to make a $25 hammer and US Taxpayers end up paying $300 for a f**king hammer; same thing with the USAF Toilet Seat. Let us buy "Made IN China" from Walmart.

He @!$%#ed UP & Sunk the GNOP and the rest of those lacking cognitive reasoning skills PUT UP OR SHUT UP, cut off your own genitals and major source of jobs and State Federal Funds, surely you believe your own baloney. DEMAND US MILITARY INSTALLATION CLOSURES IN YOUR STATES.

He @!$%#ed UP & Sunk the GNOP - Come on Obama, get us out of there!

He is go read the Army Times, Air Force Times, Navy Times, Marine Corps Times, Federal Times that list by Branch how many US Military are Ordered to be RIF'ed (Reduction In Force'd) and thrown on Unemployment by President Obama as the Commander In Chief. The numbers of US Military to be RIF'ed is 90,000; the numbers of US Civilians is 108,000 (according to the Federal Times).

AND DO NOT even say ignorant things like put them (US Military, Active Duty) on the US Borders, you don't listen to everything President Obama says or even know what he has done. You only listen to what you like to hear, EXAMPLE: President Obama's April 2009 and August 2009 Policies, "US Military will not be used to secure US Borders".

Smoot Mahooty - KingK(ornhole); Nice try but it was GW Bush that put this stupid doctrine in place by inlisting the locals to help us and for putting Karzai in charge.

And what you still believe that "Karzai Corrupt" nonsense that President Obama Political Appointees Holbrooke and Eikenberry told the International News Media to get all the Blame off their backs for continuely spending Billions USDs of US Taxpayer Money and nothing was being built nor done, as found out after President Karzai requested General McChrystal and later General Petraeus to investigate them.

By the way, since it is clear that you are blowing smoke up everyone's arse, I am going to hersey squirt into your mouth, First Using the "Locals" has been part of the US Military Asymmetric Warfare Mission even before Vietnam.

And what the f**k did you hire Candidate Obama for if not to FIX SH!T, dance around looking and sounding like a President, and not getting sh!t DONE.

And you Smoot Mahooty know from firsthand experience that KingK is a Kornhole because that is what KingK did to you kornholed your arse.

gd in colrado - I disagreed with Bush going into Iraq.

I don't because I know from participating (surviving) in October 2001 Afghanistan and later 2002 Operation Hotel California why we went to Northern Iraq. See the "Tie in between Afghanistan and Iraq" here: http://david393071.newsvine.com/_news/2012/03/12/10658053-afghanistan

I did disagree with President Clinton's US Law, H.R.4655 "Iraqis Liberation Act of 1998" justification Section 2 Weapons of Mass Destruction (NOT BUSH), Section 3 US Policy the Overthrow of President Hussein. That became US Military Operation Iraqis Freedom until 2011. President Clinton getting a boner thinking about the Overthrow of President Hussein that opened up Iraq to be taken over by the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran and destablizing the entire Region. As stated back then in writing and threatened with "Borderline Insubordination" for writing "You know nothing about Iraq", what I wrote here (deleting Firsthand involvements):

http://david393071.newsvine.com/_news/2011/10/17/8369272-iraq

Romneyismynightmare - This is a good development, could be the begining of a total troop pull-out. It is time to leave that place for good

FOS (Full Of Sh!t). Eventhough, we just got back less than a month ago we will be returning before the end of 2012.

And why, due to President Obama as Commander In Chief Ordered Reduction In Forces of the US Military of 90,000 of the current 1% of US Citizens of the US Military, this means less US Military and more Deployment for Longer Tours. President Obama has stated that the US Military Conventional Warfare Forces that provide us with Logistics Support from the FOBs, COBs, Secure AFBs, etc. and are on hand to bail us out if we get into intensive firefights will be gone by 2014,

President Obama has committed us to be at Afghanistan for DECADES after the US Military Conventional Warfare Forces leave.

Where this Article is also FOS: "ALP training is a U.S. mission, carried out by Special Forces."

WRONG, Our FID (Foreign Internal Defense) Mission was turned over to the US Civilians sent to Afghanistan ever since President Obama's August 2009 US Civilian Surge to Afghanistan; US Civilian Law Enforcement from Cities with NO Language(s) NO Culture(s) NO Asymmetric Warfare Training or knowledge that is required for us as the US Military Asymmetric Warfare "Experts". The "Vetting" process is also done by US Civilian Bureaucrats that could care less since they are NOT the US Civilians that would be doing the Training. FYI, that is where the Billions USDs of US Taxpayer Money is being spent, not on us (US Military), but the paychecks of Overpaid Expensive No Qualifications US Civilians of President Obama's US Civilian Surge(s).

Larry-367607 - The flaw in our plan is thinking we have to train them all. Did anyone ever consider using those we've already trained to train others?

That "Training the Trainers" is a US Military Standard Operating Procedure; NOT a US Civilian consideration, since if you train trainers to train others then those expensive overpaid no language underqualified US Civilians will no longer have a job. Like I mentioned before our US Military Asymmetric Warfare FID Mission was turned over to the US Civilians as Ordered by President Obama as Commander In Chief. And being "Non Combatants" these US Civilians require US Military or expensive US Security Contractors to provide them with Security, as well as Translators, etc..

Hitobito - KingK: In case you have forgotten, it was not "liberals" who started the invasion and subsequent training of Afghans, unless you consider President George W. Bush a liberal.

STOP Spamming and Trolling Hitobutthead

Afghanistan: Senator Charles Wilson, Senator, Democrat, Texas demands US involvement with Afghanistan, as Operation Cyclone. As "Charlie Wilson's War", again Firsthand Experience, NOT your Partisan Political BALONEY.

Iraq: President Clinton's 1998 State of the Union Weapons of Mass Destruction Speech. President Clinton's US Law, H.R. 4655 "Iraqis Liberation Act of 1998" justification Weapons of Mass Destruction, demanding as US Policy the Overthrow of President Hussein. 1998 Operation Desert Fox (Firsthand Experience). Eventually, US Law, "Iraqis Liberation Act of 1998" becomes US Military Operation Iraqis Freedom until 2011.

Hitobutto - one based on the imminent threat of non existent WMDs in Iraq.

2002 Operation Hotel California (Firsthand Experience) the attack, seizing, and securing of the Iraqis Chemical Weapons Facility at Sargat, Iraq.

Hitobutto - FYI, the President has killed more than four times the terrorists including Osama bin Laden than his predecessor.

Sure President Obama is on the Teams accomplishing Targeting and Target Damage Assessments, and was waiting to board the 160th SOAR MH-60s and MH-47s at Bagram AFB to conduct the SR (Special Reconnaissance) Mission at Pakistan as ordered by then CIA Director Leon Penetta as a CIA SAD/SOG Mission.

Hitobutthead. At the Very Least give Credit where Real Credit is DUE.

I think the word is "chicken hawk" to describe Hitobutthead.

Hitobutto - the rules of engagement have changed dramatically in Afghanistan to allow our troops to take preemptive action.

Nice try, as of less than a month ago, there are still US Military Personnel in Detention at Bagram AFB awaiting hearings and Courts Martial for Violating President Obama's Rules of Engagement, as "Cannot shoot until shot".

KingK - So does that mean Obama has to continue doing what G Bush started? I thought Obama was in charge now, not G Bush!

People that live in the past TODAY are usually residents of the "Institutions".

marlon,

Before you get diarreha of the mouth, go read Joseph Biden's Biography.

Momus2009 - This veteran has Obama's 6!

More like right up his 6.

Too f**king bad all the Failed Policies, Laws, etc. of Clinton (that did not go away since Clinton) have gotten the US into the current Mess, and President Obama's Policies basically caused the US to lose US Allies Worldwide.

moonbeamracer - We have a lack of understanding about these people as a whole ....We should have never been there (Afghanistan) in this role, the majority of the population never wanted us,

PROOF you have either NEVER Served in the US Military or you would know that ever since the US became a member of the United Nations, the US Military is the United Nation's Military B!tches.

And Proof just like all the other NON PARTICIPANTS, Firsthand Experience: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arxKhJIjIiY

And yes, it is clearly obvious that "We have a lack of understanding about these people as a whole". The "We" being most of the Partisan Demoncraps posts, US Public, US Politicians, etc.; as those that refused to and still refuse to listen to those that have been involved since Operation Cyclone.

6dogs - You can take your idol, Draft Dodgen, Crumb Grabbing Rug Rat, Triangle Pants Wearing Romney and stick him where the Sun don't shine.

Like I said before, go read the Biography of Joseph Biden, that is who you just discribed.

Lush Limpballs - Obama wanted to draw US troops and have them all home before 2012

WRONG. President Obama had SOS Clinton talk to President Karzai since 2009 about the US being Permanently at Afghanistan; but, you would not know that because that was Classified to keep that out of the US News Media; however, the Al Jazeera and Iranian Fars were right there at the meetings and later even posted on youtube.com by them.

you also know from firsthand experience about someone else's limpballs since you made them that way. have you no shame, wipe that sticky limpballs stuff off your face and hands.

saxon - who we also equipped when they fought the Russians

WRONG AGAIN, AND AGAIN, AND AGAIN. Someone needs to grab your head and stick your nose in your own feces after you sh!t on the carpet. How many times do I have to tell you to DO THE RESEARCH since you don't want to listen to Firsthand Experience.

FACTS (Firsthand Experience, Survivor):

Operation Cyclone as demanded by Senator Charles Wilson, Democrat, Texas.

US Military Asymmetric Warfare Teams attached to the CIA's SAD/SOG deployed to the Pro US Afghan Refugee Camps at Pakistan and Northeastern Afghanistan (Mountains), extensive Vetting the Pro US Afghans to make sure there are no Pro USSR Counter Intelligence Infiltrators (how we know Osama Bin Laden was not here, and was verified to be living with his Rich Relatives at Saudi Arabia forming his Anti Saudi Government Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadist Organization Al Quada), training the 1980s Pro US Afghan Muhajeen, organizing, and arming, many of us still do not speak fluent Pashtu and have to get by with college level near native Arabic or Farsi, just like when we were at US Ally Iraq during the Iran Iraq Wars before being rotated.

Pro USSR Afghans flee the USSR 40th Army's Total Conventional Warfare of massacring any Afghans Pro USSR or Pro US did not matter, the go to the USSR Backed Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran and receive Fundamentalist Islamic Sanctuary, as a Duty to their host Iran, some even fight in the Iran Iraq Wars.

After being the USSR 40th Army Conventional Warfare Forces were defeated by the Pro US Afghan Muhajeen's Asymmetric Warfare the USSR left Afghanistan.

Then the US Abandons US Ally Afghanistan, Senator Charles Wilson begs US Congress for $300 Million to help the US Ally Pro US Afghan Muhajeen to help rebuild US Ally Afghanistan back into the 20th Century "Little America" that it was before as built up by the US from 1950s to 1979. Due to Senator Charles Wilson's close ties with the CIA since 1979, he knows that if the US abandons US Ally Afghanistan there will be a "Power Vacuum" and the few surviving Pro US Afghan Muhajeen will easily be defeated, lose power, and overthrown. US Congress denies Senator Charles Wilson's further funding of US Ally Afghanistan.

The Pro USSR Afghans return from the USSR Backed Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran, many after years are now Fundamentalist Islamic Believers, many are also Battle hardened Combat Veterans of the Iran Iraq Wars. With the Full Support of the USSR Backed Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran, they become the 1990s Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban, and easily massacre the 1980s Pro US Afghan Muhajeen abandoned by the US.

The 1990s Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban then start to massacre all suspected Collaborators to the Christians, Jews, Unbelievers, almost half the population of Afghanistan. The trees in the Afghan Cities are full of Afghans that were beaten then hanged by the neck, and it was illegal to cut them down since they were a warning to all Afghans. The International News Media were banned from Afghanistan; however, their Ally the USSR New Media Tass were not banned and did record the extensive beatings then massacres. That was the time that we then exfiltrated into Pakistan and were later sent back to the US Military Installations at Germany, later deployed to other Missions at other Nations.

Few handfulls of 1980s Pro Afghan Muhajeen create problems for the Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban, so the Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban chased them into Pakistan, massacred them at Pakistan, and establish the Fundamentalist Islamic Pakistanis Taliban to prevent the 1980s Pro US Afghans from ever existing again.

The 1990s Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban then start to destroy everything that is "Non Islamic", "Western", "Modern"; then the lights go out at Afghanistan after they destroyed the Electric Power Stations.

Years later and many Missions at other Nations, the 9/11 2001 Attacks occur. In response the CIA's SAD/SOG is sent to Afghanistan, but fail; US Military Asymmetric Warfare Teams are then assembled to be attached to the CIA's SAD/SOG. Since the 1980s Pro US Afghan Muhajeen were completely massacred by the Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban, and since President Clinton had Gutted the US Intelligence Agencies we had to find Intelligence Assets (not Counter Intelligence enemy agents) and Allies that hated the Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban and found the Northern Alliance.

The Mission is to Overthrow the Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban, destroy the Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadist Training Camps. The Mission to Locate, Capture, or Terminate Osama Bin Laden was after President Bush in 2006 regardless of US Politicians oppositions (fearing for their lives) Amended the US No Assassination Policy to allow the Termination of Osama Bin Laden if the Mission to Locate and Capture him Failed.

Two groups of Teams were formed One Group to go North with the Northern Alliance to Attack the Taliban, Al Quada, and Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadist Training Camps; the second Group made up from the surviviors of Operation Cyclone (experienced, language(s) and culture(s)) went into the Afghan Cities to engage the Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban Militias (underestimated was actually size of an Army as fully funded trained armed by the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran) during the intensive house to house building to building "handgrenades at two feet" urban warfare (Military Operations Urban Terrain) the second group lost Redacted % and were almost Non Mission Capable; and were literally rescued by the Cavalry of the First Group and Northern Alliance riding horses.

Together the First and Second Groups of survivors then chased the Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban, Fundamentalist Islamic Al Quada, Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadist on the Southern part of Old Silk Road and killing them with extreme prejudice; we were then told to stop by the US Politicians as not to violate the Sovereign Nations of Iran and Iraq.

President Bush pushes for a US Law to allow us to pursue and elimiate the Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban, Fundamentalist Islamic Al Quada, Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists that escaped us at Afghanistan and were at Northern Iraq with the Fundamentalist Islamic Kurdistanis as Ansar Al Islam.

US Congress passes into US Law, 2002 Iraqi War Resolution.

We start 2002 Operation Hotel California. Due to the large number that did not survive Afghanistan we are augmented by the US Army 10th Special Forces Group to accomplish 2002 Operation Hotel California as the elimination of Ansar Al Islam (made up of those that escaped us at Afghanistan), we train arm organize the Pro US Kurdistanis "Pesh" to kill the Fundamentalist Islamic Kurdistanis and Ansar Al Islam.

After 2002 Operation Hotel California our mission is changed to accomplish President Clinton's US Law, H.R.4655 "Iraqis Liberation Act of 1998" as preparation for the 2003 US Military Conventional Warfare Forces Liberation of Iraq.

In a statement late Saturday, Col. Thomas Collins, US Forces Afghanistan spokesperson, said the training has been put on hold in order to carry out intensified vetting procedures on new recruits, and 16,000 existing ALP recruits will be re-vetted.

That would be a big NA-DAAH! How about putting it on hold for three hundred years?

Quit blaming Bush. Open your eyes and close your ears. Look around you. This country is on the brink of going under, and Obama is STILL blaming Brush.

Certainly not stay their for another 4+ years, with no end in sight. Bring the troops, ALL OF THEM, home now. Your not fooling anyone. jcb you are so right and escalating this war was not supposed to happen but obama chose that with the help of the congress because they sat back and did very little or close to nothing. in the meantime karzai has gotten rich from this and more of our soldiers are either dead, or crippled or mentally and emotionally destroyed from this GAME that is being played by our gov at the expense of our troops. they have now become guina pigs for whatever is going on at the white house. the american people really need to be heard and they can do that with their computers ,letters and calls but many wont bother--too lazy. but they need to be voicing at both their state level and federal levels. i dont think obama wants to bring them home because there are no jobs and on paper the unemployment figures would go sky high--stats really tell the truth dont they obama is not dumb, quite the contrary, he is slick, has a totally self serving agenda for the u.s. and where he wants to go with it and i dont forsee his direction being anything with integrity, values or prosperity for americans. i take that back, he is truly selective in who he wants to help so some americans will get much as others get brought down.

Are you serious? Must every comment section of every article that I click on, be about Americans who hate other Americans because of their political affiliation? Good men and women lost their lives, stop trying to use their deaths as a way to get your favorite politicians elected into office.

That you are. I never said anything about killing women and children. But your statement is typical of the way Obama bum kissers argue. If you can't win talking about facts then distract, name call make shat up, etc..

There is a world of difference between not training the enemy and giving them weapons and letting our troops defend themselves and kill opposition forces versus killing women and children. Why do idiots like you keep making up crap to defend incompetence from the Obama WH? That is what is getting our troops killed. That is what is enabling the TALIBAN to kill women and children, like they did just this past week. 17 civilians beheaded by the Taliban this week alone.

Does this make any sense at all? The very army we're training Is killing our troops! Leave them to their own devices. If the population there is too stupid to rise up against the Taliban, It's not our problem!

1959 #1 meltdown - What we should have done Scott, once "WE found out WE had been lied to about W.M.D. is thrown all of Bush's "BUDDIES" in jail.

Nope: President Clinton's H.R.4655 "Iraqis Liberation Act of 1998", justification Section 2 Weapons of Mass Destruction.

During 2002 Operation Hotel California we attached to the CIA's SAD/SOG, augmented by the US Army 10th Special Forces Group and companies of Pro US Kurdistanis "Pesh" attacked, seized, and secured the Iraqis Chemical Weapons Facility at Sargat Iraq.

Like all the President Obama supporters currently screaming "Disrespect", "Treason", etc.. that is what needs to happen to you, "Disrespect", "Treason" against President Bush.

1959 #1 meltdown - They caused the the world to hate us,

They being the Democrat President Clinton causing the Islamic World to label the US as the Great Satan after his 1998 Operation Desert Fox; as Commander In Chief his Ordering the Cruise Missile Attacks and Airstrikes against the Urban Poor Areas of Baghdad; regardless of the written opposition of us as Boots on the Ground.

1959 #1 meltdown - They planned and caused our E-con-my to fail just before Obama was elected,

Nope. President Clinton signed the Blank Check for the Elimination of those US Laws that made the Causes of previous Depressions Illegal. Result just like the previous Depressions (1907 Depression and 1929-1939 Great Depression) the $60 Trillion to $100 Trillion Global Economic Crisis with the same symptoms of "Mortgage Crisis", "Wall Street Crisis", "Financial Crisis", "Banking Crisis", "Credit Crisis", etc..

And like other previous Lame Excuses of other posters, regardless of Repugnant Party involvement, it is still President Clinton's Signature on those US Laws, and not a Presidential Veto. Regardless, of the US Congressional Research Agency warning President Clinton not to sign those US Laws, he did anyway, since he too made lots of money to start his Clinton Foundation.

      1959 #1 meltdown - Omaba's Platform was on "CHANGE",

Well, he did, and yes everyone has exactly that, a few cents in "CHANGE" left in their pockets to be taken away by his ACA Taxes.

1959 #1 meltdown - that all changed when McCain/Palin had to stop campaigning to vote for the the bail out (I believe the timing of that was planned too), they have not tried to help Obama in any way shape or form, just lied, lied, lied and what that left us with is Obama's new platform, whice started in Jan. 2008 "FORWORD"

PROOF YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE REAL WORLD D.C. (Dysfunctional Congress) OR THE US ELECTION PROCESS.

As a matter of US Congressional Record. President Obama's Buddy "Mr.Corporate America" pushed for the Troubled Assets Relief Program (TARP). This was because as Candidate Obama his previous Speeches were "Tax the Rich", "Rich Pay Their Fair Share", this caused all the Rich US and Foreign Business Investors to Flee the US to India, China, etc., so that the US Businesses did not have any Rich Business Investors anymore, nor Credit, this adding to the "Credit Crisis" of the $60 Trillion to $100 Trillion Global Economic Crisis.

As Quid Quo Pro, for President Obama's Buddy "Mr. Corporate America" pushing for TARP, "Mr. Corporate America" (physical locations) pursude the Rich Elititists of the Electoral College to Vote for Candidate Obama. This is why the Democratic Controlled US Congress pushed for TARP November December 2008 as "Time Sensitive" with no Public Scrutiny (Oversight or Review) as just in time for the Electoral College Votes of January 2009 to make Candidate Obama President and Candidate Biden Vice President.

This is WHY the Rich Elitist Electoral College MUST be Eliminated, as the Founding Fathers while arguing for and against the Electoral College stated that it was excement about representing smallers States (Colonies) and Populations and was all about their own Rich Founding Fathers Belief (that refused to pay the British "Tax the Rich", "Rich Pay Their Fair Share"), "The average Citizen is too ignorant to determine the Highest Offices of the Land, President and Vice President".

And yes, President Bush did get some of that (TARP) for his Home State:

      University Park, Texas
Share population in finance and real estate: 18.83%
      Nearest large city: Dallas
      Population: 24,582
      Median Household Income: $110,976

While the Majority to Buy the Electoral College Votes when to Democratic Party Controlled States of President Obama's Buddy "Mr. Corporate America".

1959 #1 meltdown - And republicans don't want to do that, they want to take us back to the fifties when Roy Rogers wore that f in White Cowboy hat.

I would prefer a 1900 AD US (Cowboys), than a 600 AD Muslim Nation of Arabic Omani Muslim (Kenya/Somalia) of Barack Hussein Obama Sr. President Obama's Father (stated influence of his father in his book, Dreams from My Father:A Story of Race and Inheritance) perhaps if you bothered to read it you would know what President Obama intents (his stated goals of his Father).

1959 #1 meltdown - Republicans "Built that" and the also built the Hell they will have to live with for four more years.

      FACT versus FICTION:

Misery Index (how Miserable US Citizens are, higher the number the more F**ked they are):

      President Barack H. Obama 10.72

      President George W. Bush 8.11

      President William J. Clinton 7.80

1959 #1 meltdown do you want to talk about other things (Historically Documented FACTS) so that I can shoot you down with Documented Historical Facts (All Parties, and Non Partisan) to crash and burn or have a significant mental meltdown.

By the way before you start saying "Know it All" as an insult, that means that I am doing the Intelligence, Fact Finding, Investigative part of my job.

It isn't just those who profit directly from war that are promoting these endless wars. You think American corporations like Subway and McDonald's, just to name a couple of many, would be able to move into these areas if it wasn't for the US military "securing" the area first.

Let's not forget that Afghanistan has some of the largest remaining untapped mineral resources in the world. I am sure there are more than a couple American companies that would like a chance to strip mine Afghanistan into an even bigger gravel pit.

The US military has been reduced from National security and promoting peace to securing new markets for Corporate America. Time to let Corporate America hire mercenaries to secure what they want like other "ruling classes" have done throughout history and bring our military back to the US, where they belong.

And as far as "Corporate America" goes, rich folks in coporate America have ALWAYS been in control of the government. The sooner some of you folks realize that, the sooner you'll understand that the illusion of freedom that so many of my brother's and sisters have fought and died for is just that, an illusion!

This really has nothing to do with which side of our political pendulum swings either ("left or right") liberal or extreme conservative ,,Democrat or Republican,,,,,,,,,,,

Americas wars are always based on controling and securing resources in any particular region . A particular regoin in conflict will always have some thing that needs to be exploited . America simply uses it's military machine to secure access to the resources needed. Setting up user friendly goverments, that allow big corporations to set up camp and do business.

As stated by previous posters using the term "merchants of death" is appropriate ,,,

Tom Joad-2727392, D.Gabriel, tbrownjt, SoSickoftheGop, Romneyismynightmare, caribbeanslim

Once again the academic idealistic naivety that has no place in the Real World Life or Death School of Hard Knocks, unless you want to be nominated to receive the Darwin Award.

      First,

Tom Joad-2727392 - Oh, I forgot. The ruling elite, who profit from eternal war will not let that happen.

Like I posted before DEMAND THE CLOSURES OF US MILITARY INSTALLATIONS AT YOUR STATE, including those you don't know about. Organize Protests and Demonstrations. Before those US Military Installations close make sure that you post your real name, address, etc. so that those that end up with a near Great Depression Era Economy at the Cities and Towns near the Closed US Military Installation can let you know how they feel.

Second, you too D.Gabriel like Tom Joad-2727392.

The biggest Merchant of Death was President FDR.

      The US Military does NOT benefit from the US Military Defense Industrial Complex as previously created by President FDR to get the US out of the 1929-1939 Great Depression 1939 before US Entry into WWII 1941 thru the Sales of War Materials to England, France, Russia, China, and anyone else with money;

Currently the almost hundred million overpaid expensive US Citizens are the ONLY ones that benefit.

      Third, strike out SoSickoftheGop

SoSickoftheGop - but read some of the things Republican President Eisenhower said about money and banks and the military complex. Today he'd be called a Democrat,

Today he'd be called a Hypocrite. GENERAL Eisenhower was a product of the US Military Defense Industrial Complex, otherwise he would have had to conduct the Normandy Invasion with rowboats and butterknives. It was based on his success with the Normandy Invasion and later as SACEUR that he became popular to become US President.

Because of President Eisenhower's hatred of those that made him, the US Military Defense Industrial Complex, he chopped them. Later during the Korean Conflict as US Military Commander In Chief he ordered the US Military to get involved with the Korean Conflict and getting US Military Personnel killed unnecessarily, since Task Force Smith was sent without the necessary equipment that would take years for the US Military Defense Industrial Complex to Restart and finally start producing Anti Tank Ammunition to stop the North Korean Tanks.

Same thing with General Smelly Butt, a product of the US Military, or his arse instead of going on paid speaking tours would have been unemployed.

      Fourth,

Romneyismynightmare - It did start out that way gd, but since our military did the job(got bin laden) the war against al quaida is done. We don't need to be there. Fighting the taliban wasn't really supposed to be on the agenda

Since you are NOT or were NOT a Participant. WRONG. The Mission in October 2001 after the 9/11 2001 Attacks was to: One, Overthrow the Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban; Two, destroy the Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadist Training Camps; Three later added to make Afghanistan 100% Legalper International Laws, UN Mission Nation Building.

If you don't want to listen to a Survivor from October 2001, then listen carefully to this Author that interviewed some of us (his book endorsed by VP Biden):

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arxKhJIjIiY

The author was NOT allowed to describe the tactics we used and intensive urban warfare fighting at Qala I Janghi, Mazar I Sharif, etc. or how most of us did not survive.

While previously participating in Operation Cyclone, Osama Bin Laden was living with his Rich Relatives at Saudi Arabia forming his Anti Saudi Government, Anti US, Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadist International FRANCISE of Al Quada.

Al Quadaas an International Francise is composed of many Al Quada Groups, not just Al Quada Saudi Arabia (AQ). Al Quada Syria (AQS), Al Quada Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), Al Quada Syria (AQS), Al Quada Yemen (AQY), Al Quada Iraq (AQI), etc.. In these International Al Quada Franchises there are also Subsets derrived from the main Al Quada Franchises. Redacted. The Al Quada International Franchise as a Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadist Organization is Fully Supported by the Chinese and Russian Federation Backed Fundamentalist Islamic ShiaRepublic of Iran. The International Al Quada Franchise is Funded by the Mandatory Islamic Tithes of Trillions USDs per year from the 1.5 Billion Islamic Believers Worldwide as required by Fundamentalist Islamic Laws (Shia aka Sharia Laws) and Fundamentalist Islamic Customs as Law (Hadith). By being fully supported and funded normally the life as a Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadist is better than what they had before (scratching in the dirt barely surviving).

Also Fully Funded and Supported are the Worldwide Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists (Fully Organized like a Military):

      The Worldwide Fundamentalist Islamic Military:

      The Worldwide Fundamentalist Islamic Military (aka Jihadists, Terrorists) consisting of the International Al Quada Franchise (AQ, AQY, AQS, AQI, AQAP, AQIM, AQ Somalia, etc.), Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFGaka "the Libyan Rebels"), Army of Islam Pakistan (not the Pakistanis Military), Pakistanis Taliban, Army of Islam Gaza, Hezbollah (Party of Allah, Palestine, Lebanon, Gaza, Libya, South and Central Americas, etc.), HamasForeign Fighters (Palestine, Libya, Gaza, South and Central Americas, maybe Mexico, etc.), Islamic Chechen Foreign Fighters, Muslim Brotherhood (Alexandria Egypt), Kongra Gel/Kurdistan Worker's Party (KGK/PKK), Jemaah Islamiya (JI), Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG), Fatah al-Islam (FAI), Ansar al-Islam (AI), Ansar al-Sunna (AS), Abu Nidal Organization (ANO), Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade (AAMS), Al-Shabaab, Ansar al-Islam (AAI), Asbat al-Ansar, Gama'a al-Islamiyya (Islamic Group), Harakat ul-Jihad-i-Islami/Bangladesh (HUJI-B), Harakat ul-Mujahidin (HUM), Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban of Afghanistan, Islamic Jihad Union (IJU), Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JEM) (Army of Mohammed), Jemaah Islamiya organization (JI), Kata'ib Hezbollah (KH), Lashkar-e Tayyiba (LT) (Army of the Righteous), Lashkar i Jhangvi (LJ), Moroccan Islamic Combatant Group (GICM), Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MEK), Palestine Liberation Front (PLF), Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), PFLP-General Command (PFLP-GC), Harakat-ul Jihad Islami (HUJI), Jundallah, etc.;

left off were the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) at the Philippines, the Redacted South and Central Americas and Redacted of Redacted.

We have strongly requested that the Haqquini Network (Pakistan) be added to the US Department of State List above.

Face the Facts (we have) Romneyismynightmare: a. There are about 312 Million US Citizens; b. There are about 1.5 Billion Islamic Believers Worldwide, with most of them being Fundamentalist Islamic Believers (they killed off the moderates, liberal, modern Islamic Believers as Heretics); c. The Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists are funded in the Trillions of USDs per year; d. It has been the longtime Strategic Goal of the Chinese and Russian Federation to get the US and US Allies out of their Backyards (Resources); e. The Chinese and Russian Federation are Fully Supporting the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran as their "Proxy Fighter"; f. The Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran is using the Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists as their "Proxy Fighters" and fully supporting them with 21st Century Weapons purchased from the Chinese and Russian Federation using the Iranian Oil Wealth and Iraqis Oil Wealth (lost by the US and US Allies); g. Ever since President Obama's March 2009 Iran Policy bargining from a position of weakness with the Ayatollahs of Iran telling President Obama no empty words with the result of the Fundamentalist Islamic ShiaRepublic of Iran increasing their Strategic Sphere of Influence and causing the Overthrows of US Allies Worldwide by their Special Forces, Quds, training Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists in Asymmetric Warfare to Overthrow US Allies Established Governments Worldwide; h. The Chinese, Russian Federation, Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran still take people out and execute them for Contract Defaults, Contract Fraud, Contract Delays, etc. and the US must reward US Contractors (Manufacturering) for these or these Manufacturers will tie up the Contracts in the US Courts of Years so the Chinese, Russian Federation, Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran get every Chinese Yuan, Russian Ruble, Iranian Dinar's worth while the US gets something for $1.00 that is worth $0.01 that the Chinese, Russians, Iranians paid $0.01 for, with most of the $0.99 going to US Labor Costs.

So bottomline: Outnumbered, underfunded, no Public Support (Defeating the National Will To Fight is a Asymmetric Warfare Strategic Goal that we are trained and experienced to accomplish, not US Conventional Warfare Goal) other than empty hot air words*, using those things manufacturered and designed during the 1960s to 1990s and patched together with upgrades (not originally intented to be upgraded) versus 21st Century Technology of the Chinese and Russian Federation as sold to anyone that is willing to fight the US and US Allies, US Politicians unwilling to listen to those that will be doing the Missions as the Boots on the Ground or that are their Trained Educated for Decades "Experts", lots of etc..

*Go ahead and call me a liar, and also call First Lady Michelle Obama a liar:

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5e1R0lliFHc

      Fifth,

caribbeanslim - Americas wars are always based on controling and securing resources in any particular region .

      Really, just from Firsthand Experience:

Vietnam: US and US Allies loss of the World's Natural Rubber Resources and off shore Oil. Strategic Location Russian Federation is negotiating.

Iraq: US and US Allies loss of the Northern and Southern Iraqis Oil Fields. As most of the US High Grade Crude Oil was depleted during the early 1900s "Black Gold Oil Rushes" leaving the US with high content sulfur content Oil that was used during the 1970s "Oil Crisis" creating "Acid Rain" (sulfuric acid). Due to President Obama'sMarch 2009 Policy Iran placed pressure on the Islamic Shia Government of Iraq to negotiate with the Iranian Allies, the Chinese and Russian Federation for the Northern and Southern Oil Fields of Iraq or be Overthrown.

Afghanistan: While hunting for the Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists we were spelunking into the thousands of miles of Mines, Mineshafts, Mining Tunnels, etc. and found the High Tech Mineral Wealth of Afghanistan as later confirmed by the CIA'sScientific Teams attached to us conducting US Military Asymmetric Mountain (Technical Mountain Climbing) Warfare. Due to President Obama's March 2009 Policy Iran placed pressure on the Afghans to negotiate with the Iranian Ally, the Chinese for the High Tech Mineral Wealth of Afghanistan or be Overthrown. These High Tech Minerals are Required for the current and future US Alternative Energy. These High Tech Minerals now belong to the China Metallurgical Group. In 2011, the Chinese Government placed Restrictions on the export of these and many other High Tech Minerals from China (translation all US High Tech requiring High Tech Minerals must be Made In China).

South and Central Americas: Redacted. Strategic Locations. 2010, the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran negotiates with Redacted to build hardened underground ICBM/IRBM Missile Silos. In 2012 Iranian President visits to view the progress of the underground ICBM/IRBM Missile Silos at Redacted and Redacted. Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran provides weapons bought from the Chinese and Russian Federation to Redacted, which are then smuggled to the Mexican Drug Cartels as the preferred weapons over the US M4s/M16s that can be easily bought from the Mexican Military as manufactured under license at Mexico.

North Korea: The Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran assisted by the Chinese start a Technological Trade Agreement. The Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran provides North Korea with working ICBM, IRBM, ABM Missile Technology. The North Koreans provide the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran with working Nuclear Weapons Technology. Not anticipated, the Russian Federation does the most difficult time consuming part for the Fundamentalist Islamic Republic of Iran extracting Uranium from rocks (uranium ore), this accelerates the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran Nuclear Weapons Program by Decades.

By the way too f**king late to the bomb bomb Iran crowd. The Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran dug their hardened Facilities just below the threshold of any US or US Allies Weapons Systems at 250 feet. This 250 feet was the "Index number" during the "Cold War" to withstand a direct Nuclear (Thermonuclear) bomb attack, just like US NORAD and the USSR Ural Mountain Complex. The previous US and USSR weapons systems capable of destroying the C4I and Political Leadership (underground facilities) were completely destroyed after the Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, SALT, START, etc. to the extent as if they never existed as monitored by observers from both the US and USSR. As it was believed that by destroying the Enemy's C4I and Civilian National Command Authority there would be no one left to call off the Final War (WWIII, Earth Ending Thermonuclear War). To this day how this weapons system (both the US and USSR versions) functioned is considered as CNWDI. (before being yanked from my confortable desk job to a life of misery and suffering of combat while the rest of the US Military enjoyed the "Peacetime US Military", I used to teach Nuclear (weapons) Physics; later as a "reward" I was returned to the US Strategic Nuclear and got to retrograde and observe the destruction (Demil) of US and USSR Nuclear Weapons). So before any of you say that I don't know, my teaching nuclear (weapons) physics at the "school house" was hands on.

To secure all their gains and the US and US Allies losses the Chinese are building their 21st Century "Deep Water" PLAN (Peoples Liberation Army Navy) as fast as they make products for Walmart. Starting with their acceleration of the Shi Lang, first Chinese Aircraft Carrier, the same class as the current Russian Federation Admiral Kutzenov, except with more modern 21st Century weapons systems including the Chinese Hypersonic Anti Ship Missile designed to kill USN Aircraft Carriers, and upgraded versions of the Russian Federation SU-33 as the Chinese J-15.

Knowing like President FDR did that US Consumerism will never get the US out of a Depression and that the Sales of War Materials could and did. The Chinese and Russian Federation are selling their 21st Century Weapons Systems to anyone. example: How many Made In China Apple iPads, iPhones would it take to equal (including US Jobs) just one Made In US F-15 sold to US Ally Saudi Arabia (don't forget to figure in the required US Civilians for maintenance training, repair parts manufacturing for decades, factory upgrades retrofits and modifications also, etc.).

Libya: President Gaddaffi a previous US Ally declares Libyan Oil Nationalization to take control of the Libyan Oil away from the US European Allies Oil Corporations. The US European Allies Oil Corporations Lobbyists demand that the US and US Allies Military Eliminate or Overthrow Gaddaffi to stop his Libyan Oil Nationalization at the "G" Meeting at France that SOS Clinton attended. In February the European Oil Corporations evacuate their employees from Libya. The Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group aka the Rebels, Al Quada Saudi Arabia (AQ), Al Quada Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), Al Quada Syria (AQS), Al Quada Yemen (AQY), Hezbollah, Al Quada Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), etc. are already at Libya attempting to start a Civil War at Benghazi as it is one of their Strategic Goals to seize the weapons at the 60-bunker Hight Razma facility on the eastern outskirts of Benghazi and a 35-bunker facility on the eastern outskirts of Ajdabiyah after killing Gaddaffi's Military Guards. There other Strategic Goals: Of course kill Gaddaffi the Collaborator to the Christians, Jews, Unbelievers in accordance with current Islamic Laws. Get rid of Gaddaffi because he was assisting the CIA. Get rid of Gaddaffi for sending his Military to fight the Islamic Jihadists. Release President Obama Guantanamo Prisoners transferred to Gaddaffi's Prisons. Stop the Strategic Libyan Oil from going to the US European Allies (aka Crusaders), Libyan Oil must go to Iran's Ally the Chinese as negotiated by Qatar. Obtain the 20,000 shoulder launched anti aircraft SA-7 missiles to shoot down US Airlines to "cripple the US Economy" after the failed shoebomber, laser toner cartridge bombs, underware bomber, etc.. A Mediterranean Port closer to attack the Crusaders. Create another Islamic Republic of Fundamentalist Islamic Shia (aka Sharia) Laws.

Egypt: Negotiations between the Fundamentalist Islamic Muslim Brotherhood and the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran before the "Egyptian Revolution". In exchange for future Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iranian Military Bases, and access to the Strategic Suez Canal the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran would support the Fundamentalist Islamic Muslim Brotherhood in gaining control (once again the US Public, US Politicians, most of the US Military Conventional Warfare Forces; no training no experience with Asymmetric Warfare). Currently the Chinese and Russian Federation Military Operators and Maintenance Personnel for the Intergrated Air Defense Systems (that detected the US "Stealth" RQ-170) and long ranged land based hypersonic and supersonic anti ship missile batteries are mobilizing that are currently at the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran, believed to be deployed to Egypt to deny the US and US Allies access to the Strategic Suez Canal, US and US Allies must go around Africa. Bases closer to strike at US Ally Israel.

So no, caribbeanslim, the Final Results, the US got NOTHING (Resources), except a bunch of my peers dead and blew tons of money. All the Strategic Goals that we accomplished since the 1980s gone due to the US Politicians not listening or not giving a sh!t (since they were leaving or left Office). Very soon most of us will also be gone and all of this will be on Generation X and Generation Y to deal with during the Real World Life or Death School of Hard Knocks.

Tom Perhaps if you could spell America correctly, your post may have more meaning with sincerity. I say this because of all the deaths that have transpire in America's armed forces and the ISAF/NATO forces as well. They last few months has been from the treacherous "allies" from Afghan Army/Police.

Now that we "suspended" training Afghan Army/Police etc., until the 16,000 are properly vetted, our next logical step is to hold off training anyone there until 2014. However, the truly next logical step is to say "Hasta la Bye-Bye" to that God-forsaken country and withdraw in time for our personnel to be home by the holidays - Thanksgiving Day - to be precise!

I cannot believe, nor do I understand all the PC talk by "military spokesmen" - Col Collins in particular about "we have full trust in...". Sure hope he can look in the mirror each morning and not see his nose growing!

Sorry pal.. the K letter substitution is not obvious. Very few people would be able to see that this somehow means communism according to your interpretation. As far as I can tell, it might be a reference to a Rammstein song about America, but I still don't see the communism connection.

it was not spelling I went for with America. It was that usage inferring that with the "K' you may be misunderstood. It also inferred when you use k, that is a tactic for Marxist philosophy as taught to BHO by his mentor Saul Alinsky, Chicago Sociologist that gave BHO his Community Activism approach to Socialism. Ever heard of Saul Alinsky and his Rules for Radicals? Its called attack the Messenger if you cannot attack the Message and BHO & DNC follow it as it's their Lesson Plan.

Oh yeah, how old and big do the "boys" around your area grow to? Unless you are from Ireland on this post, then I understand the cultural terminology.

As far as waiting until 2014 goes, we need to start getting out immediately. Nothing is going to change between now and then. Our service men/women will remain being targets. Stop the chaos and get them home!

This all started because the Taliban were persecuting the locals if the locals don't care enough to deal with the problem why is it our battle. I don't care if they have to grow beards and the women have to wear Burkas what business is it of ours.

If they are having NO success in screening for the Afghan Recruits, what makes them think they can screen these people coming into OUR country??? All the Muslims that have come here so far Haven't been Americanized. They want their own laws, their own leaders, etc. So what good are they doing our country?? This is Insanity at the extreme. We are going to have Big, Big problems down the road here in this country. I hope i am not around to see it.

tarzan7 you have made a good point here and it is a fact. our gov keeps screaming we are broke and we have to make these desperate cuts, understandable on some, but they are bringing afghan immingrants here as well as thousands of illegal immigrants from other countries and they are all being offered good college educations courtesy of the american taxpayer with california leading the way and getting much monies from the gov. you are right about muslims coming here want their own laws and leaders. they have sounded that tune for a long time. this country is more divided than i have ever seen it in my time. we now have something far worse than the civil war because we have many civil wars going on it seems. it has definitely become extreme and i feel so bad for the children, including my grandchildren, having to grow up with very little of a future for them. getting a college education will be next to impossible unless you are in a minority group or an illegal immigrant. we have to get out of afghan and let these people take care of themselves. they will survive a lot longer than we will at the rate we are going. at the cost of several trillion dollars for this war, it makes one sick to hear any of our congress screaming we are broke. there is a way to get thru this if they would ALL stop fighting and get rid of the self serving attitudes.

This is all we can do, suspend training and examine security processes, while we keep our eyes on our ultimate goal: to get out.

It is time to do, and we know it. Unfortunately, nations, unlike people, cannot just up and leave overnight. But we may need to accelerate our own departure. If the Afghan government cannot guarantee the safety of our remaining forces, from members of their forces, then we have to disengage quickly.

Our Country should look at its complete inventory of resources.

There are many of us who are classified as elderly, and having been in Law Enforcement, and it would seem know of the basics and more, needing to be taught better than young soldiers; through lived experiences. Some of us are in the physical condition of a man or woman who is 30 40 years old.

In my personal case I would volunteer to teach at minimal or no cost for I receive Social Security. I was once appointed a Wholesale Distributor for Smith and Wesson Guns (A company of the highest of Integrity), so knowledge of weaponry is above average.

Again in my case, I have no family and the thought process of an older person realizes we are all put on this earth being born and we have a departure date. Someone in my case would not be a loss that brings turmoil to a young family, and could possibly save the life of a young man or woman sent to teach..............

If need be to help my Country I would pay my own way - NBC has my Email address for contact....... Blessings to all.

Evening..to be honest they can vet and check as much as they like. At the end of the day we cannot tell friend from foe. The Taliban have found a way in which is virtually undetectable. No one can be trusted as we have found out...3 Australian soldiers are on their way home tonight...killed by a rogue Afghan soldier on Thursday who is still on the run. Unfortunately they will not be the last for my country or yours. How to stop it, good question. But I think I would be inclined to have a weapon trained on all Afghan police and soldiers at all times around Allies...Just in case. They showed the ramp ceremony for the Aussies on TV here tonight as they were carefully placed on the plane, for the long flight home. Hundreds of International soldiers lined the dusty road saluting in silent tribute as our fallen soldiers went past. Thanks mates.

shona1, very good post and i agree with you. i am a mom and grandmom but i say i definitely would have weapons trained on afghan police and soldiers at all times. you sound like you are from australia when referring to the 3 soldiers who were killed. my heart goes out to you and for every australian soldier who is serving there or has served. i was blessed a month ago when my son came home from afghan with all 85 young guys serving under him. it was his first command and he was so proud as i am of every soldier who is serving or has served . less than one hour and a half after he and his troops left the area where they were, the taliban (or afghans, who really knows) came thru and destroyed everything in the entire area. NOTHING was left. had they not left when they did, many of them would be dead. I thank God so much for his protection and mercy. as for tht rogue afghan soldier on the run, they wont even look for him, i am sure. i know several mp's that have come home and they told me that those people start surrounding soldiers in large groups and talking wildly and one never really knows if they are going to attack or not. our roe's have caused a lot of deaths over there . it is time for all soldiers everywhere to leave that place permanently and stop giving aid of any kind. there is no way to stop what goes on there.

Afghanistan is a lost cause. The only reason America is involved in Afghanistan is because of 9'11 and we still don't know why that happened. But anyone living anywhere planning the next 9/11 should not be surprised to find Americans breathing down their necks.

It was to establish a government so this place would not be a safe haven for terrorists.

As I recall Russia (well, the U.S.S.R.) learned this lesson quite a few years ago and we pointed our fingers and snickered while assuring ourselves that we were a lot smarter than them. Guess not, eh?

We need to pack up our supplies, take our money (we pay their Government) and come home. It is over, it is unwinnable, it is now ludericus. We could use our military to build barracks for the un housed, Drug rehas that truly rehab instead of just maintain. to be ready for disaster work, and it would not cost as much as we are spending now. We could also trim out to one of the most elete military in the world if we would use what we hae, where it is needed....Hay...Where is General Honore' when you need him.

I agree with coming home if we are not going to fight it as a war. The part I disagree with is your statement that it is not winable. In my opinion it has already been won. We crushed Al Qaida in Afghanistan and they are no longer using it as a base to attack us. That was the original mission.

I defend my property ... so, I understand when, as a society, we go to war to do the same.

I stand up for my rights ... so, I understand when, as a society, we symbolize justice to the rest of the world.

But I don't go where I'm not welcome ... so, I DON'T understand when, as a society, we are still in this part of the world.

To make a long story short, Teoteo, we are in Afghanistan because that is where the bad guys who attacked American on Septermber 11, 2001 lived and still do live.

They came to America and attacked innocent Americans and now we have chased them back to their rat holes they call home in the mountains of Afghanistan.

None of this is rocket science...If the Draft was reinstated, these wars would have been over years ago.......But America is not at war, the military is.

Simple as that !...And of course, the war mongers that are making hundreds of billions of dollars.

Notice that Romney didn't even mention the wars....Wonderful human being he is....

Not sure I got that. Are you saying that if the draft was still on and military was larger that all the wars would be over and won by America?

                          Nice fantasy but not reality.

If the draft was re-instated and those without a choice had to fight the voice of protest would rise up in this country ten fold louder than in the times of viet-Nam.

The protestors would be more violent and radica than ever before.l

The very essecne of these protest would finish the tearing asunder of this nation....

No John, what I am saying is that if the Draft was still there, and the "elitist" group had their sons and daughters coming home in aluminum coffins, and limbs missing, we would be out of there....But since the "nobody" people are fighting them, there isn't any effort to leave......

I spent 2 tours in Vietnam (volunteered with the Marines)......Riots in the cities of America because the people got tired of THEIR sons coming home if coffins because THEY were drafted.....No one cares now because there is no draft.

And imnotlost:...Saying " thank you for the sacrifice you are making, to the troops " would have been nice....Can't believe you asked that question !

If the draft were reinstated as I believe it should be the rush to war would not be so "casual". After all, when your sending your kids and not just you neighbors kids war takes on a different tone. We all live here and enjoy our American way of life so why is it that so many of us are afraid to stand up and defend it by doing 2 years of military service? You cannot lay the defense of this great nation on the backs of just a few. We are all here and have the moral obligation defend our country and her interests if we truly mean what we say. Talk is cheap.

Too all those people who want to bring back the draft, you do realise that financially and militarily it would be impossible to bring back the draft right? After all for one military operations are getting more and more complex these days, which demands a higher level of training (more then you could get form a few weeks of boot) and a higher degree of specialisation too (which would cost more money ) furthermore as with all large, conscripted forces) you’d lose quality, which would mean more deaths which sounds very counter-productive to me.

I appreciate your perspective John...But when one segment of the society (legislators) sends another segment of society to "serve and die" in war, shouldn't the sacrifice be felt evenly?...And PLEASE, don't use the Fox analogy "they volunteered".

It's easy to say "lets go to war" when YOUR kid is sitting on the porch.

Now hear this! Romney doesn't need to have a plan for Afghanistan. Your (fearless?) leader has already announced the schedule for the troop withdrawal and the taliban merely has to wait until they're gone and then they'll take over again and butcher (literally) a few hundred thousand innocents in the process. This intelligent leader of ours wants to leave a "contingent group of advisers and trainers" behind for the taliban to sneak up on and murder as well.

He has Publicly said back in the beginging that he was only going to address 7 topics in his Campaigning. He is only going to Flap his Gums about what his Managers thinks people want to here. There are things that his Campaign Managers don't want him to open his mouth about. Now, does that tell you something or not? If you don't say anything about it now, they cannot say you lied later. Proove me wrong!

So having re-read a few posts it seems to me that the main thinking behind the draft is that if we all had something to lose then we wouldn’t be declaring war all that often, well I don’t think it would work that way, after all American fought it’s most bloody war with conscription, it also fought in the two most bloody wars in human history with conscripted forces too, so I don’t think a draft would do anything to curtail a politicians desire to go to war. Indeed it could be argued that conscription would just lead to increase losses, after all if a general knows he’s going to get replacements no matter what then he doesn’t have to be that sparing of his troop. In all whilst I think the idea may be in the right place (being if we had a draft people wouldn’t rush headlong into wars) I’d have to remind you that it is not soldiers or people that declare wars it is politicians and as such if it is in their interests to declare wars they will. Furthermore (as I mentioned in my previous post) it is the actual cost and complexity of military operations that make a draft impossible

If there was a draft, the very same people who would influence the course of the war if their kids got drafted would have had them volunteer for the Navy or the Air Force long before their numbers ever came up. These days there is a college for everyone, so the rest would be getting deferments. In the end, their parents would probably hire a lawyer to say it isn't fair, and the government would end up apologizing and giving them a pass.

As for influencing public opinion, conscription would only be an issue for the college kids; if there isn't an OWS event, an anti-Israel protest, or an environmental march to take part in that weekend. Their attention spans are much shorter than in the 1960s.

Those are just my musings, and these are my tours:(U.S. Army) OIF I - 2003, OIF II - 2004-2005, OEF 2006

The theory that re-instating the draft would somehow discourage war is completely ludicrous.

It works for small countries like Israel and Switzerland as a way to instill culture, but it doesn't work for a large country like the USA. The only reason the draft would ever be re-instated in the USA is if we were fighting WWIII and we ran out of volunteers.

And BTW, just because your kid gets drafted, do you really think that gives you a voice as a parent about which war to fight? That is also a ridiculous theory. Besides, which war are you saying is not justified? I still think we should not be pulling out of Afghanistan without complete victory.

                                        #25.20 - Mon Sep 3, 2012 5:15 AM EDT

Actually, we should probably pull out of Afghanistan if we are not going to seriously occupy it. You can't win a war if you're not willing to occupy the territory at least temporarily. So if there is no intention for occupation, we should just bail out. Seems like a waste though. Many lost American lives and we just give the territory back to the so called "friendly locals". That strategy doesn't make sense to me.
