Mission 'nearly impossible': Syria envoy downbeat on new job

Diplomatic attempts to end the conflict in Syria are "nearly impossible" and not enough is being done to end the fighting, the new U.N. and Arab League mediator Lakhdar Brahimi said in an interview broadcast on Monday.

"I know how difficult it is -- how nearly impossible. I can't say impossible -- nearly impossible," Brahimi, an Algerian diplomat, told the BBC. "And we are not doing much. That in itself is a terrible weight."

David Karp / AP

Lakhdar Brahimi, newly-appointed Joint Special Representative of the United Nations and the League of Arab States for Syria, arrives at a meeting at United Nations headquarters in New York City on Friday.

Brahimi replaced Kofi Annan as the United Nations and Arab League joint special representative on Syria at the end of August. Annan stepped down after blaming "finger-pointing and name-calling" at the U.N. Security Council for hampering efforts to find a breakthrough in the conflict.

Around 20,000 people have been killed during a 17-month uprising against Syria's President Bashar Assad.

Brahimi said he was "scared of the weight of responsibility" on his shoulders and was aware that not enough is being done to end the violence through diplomacy.

"People are already saying 'People are dying and what are you doing?' And we are not doing much. That in itself is a terrible weight," he told the BBC.

Rebels hit Syrian army headquarters in Damascus

Brahimi said he felt like he was "standing in front of a brick wall", looking for cracks that may yield a solution.

President Bashar Assad spoke to a pro-government Syrian TV station Wednesday and said the situation is "better" , but his troops need more time to "win the battle". ITV's John Ray reports.

"I'm coming into this job with my eyes open, and (with) no illusions," he said.

China against ‘safe zone’
Meanwhile, in an indication of what Brahimi is up against, China's top newspaper said that a Turkish proposal for a Syrian "safe zone" under foreign protection for civilians fleeing intensifying violence there would not help resolve the worsening humanitarian crisis in the country.

The battle for Aleppo: My 18 days with the Syrian rebels

China has repeatedly condemned any plan which hints at outside interference in the Syrian crisis or proposes "regime change." Both China and Russia have vetoed proposed U.N. Security Council resolutions intended to put pressure on Assad.

Turkey fears a mass influx of refugees similar to the flight of half a million Iraqi Kurds into Turkey after the 1991 Gulf War.

But the People's Daily, the mouthpiece of China's ruling Communist Party, said safe zones would not work.

"The contributions of countries which neighbor Syria to appropriately looking after refugees deserves support, and it is understandable they are coming up with ideas to lessen the pressure on themselves," it wrote.

"But setting up 'safe zones' in Syria is not a good policy. As UNHCR chief António Guterres has clearly stated, the lessons from history show so-called 'safe zones' can provide next to no real protection for refugees."

Rebels claimed they shot down a Syrian government helicopter that crashed during fighting in the country's capital. NBC's Ayman Mohyeldin reports.

France has supported Turkey's call for a safe zone and pressure for action has increased after the U.N. refugee agency said last month that Syria's exodus was accelerating.

Assad stays cool amid reported slaughter on the bread lines

Up to 200,000 people could settle in Turkey if the conflict worsens, according to the UNHCR.

Credible protection for "liberated" areas would require no-fly zones patrolled by foreign aircraft, but there is no chance of securing a U.N. Security Council mandate for such action, given opposition from veto-wielding members Russia and China.

The People's Daily said any efforts to help alleviate the problem must respect Syria's sovereignty and independence.

"Humanitarianism must not be politicized and nor should it be militarized," it wrote.

Reuters contributed to this report.

what the main reason that keep USA out of action ?

Syrian Free. The Syrian people are in civil war or, at least, in social revolution. The Syrian People need to unite and be prepared to take their fight for freedom all the way to the steps of the current government. Unless you are prepared to do this, then the Syrian People aren't likely to win their freedom. Don't look to other nations to end your revolt and hand you freedom.

When your revolt is over, look to those nations that condemned Assad. Don't look to those nations that supported him. This will only cause more pain and suffering than you are experiencing now.

Were the Rebels that fought against The Crown "infidels?" That Revolutionary War brought freedom and made the US a country as opposed to property of a Colonial power. Yep--no vote for women, slaves, genocide--all in the name of Christianity and fake freedoms. James Madison said that people were too ignorant to be actively involved in governance and the "proper people" should make the decisions. That's the reason that Citizens United and corporate personhood rule the US.

Why should more American blood be spilled for another Arab wasteland? You start your wars and then demand, not ask but demand, America and other free nations come and help an Islamic religious group take over, then turn on us. We do learn, maybe a bit slow as we keep hoping there are truly people there in the Arab nations who do want to be free and have the right to hold their heads up and make their lands their own. However they all end up ground under the heel of Islamic nuts who run around beheading those who will not bow to the east the right way. So kill each other off and don't demand help from other nations. We are done spilling the blood of our men and women for you. You are the nations of treachery ruled by back stabbers and haters and religious fanatics.

pr, I cannot believe I just read what you wrote! Assad scares the sh*t out of me. He wantonly drops bombs on residential neighborhoods, has his troops gunning down people in the street. At one point, he went door-to-door hauling out any male in a household over the age of twelve, lined them up and shot them! He wasn't concerned whether these children were rebels or not. They were, to his way of thinking, "potentially" rebels. If America were to hold to that same standard of governance, half the people in the nation, if not more, would be rounded up and slaughtered for being potential threats for nothing more egregious than espousing different political views than whatever party may be in power at any given time.

And let us not forget, the white man invaded the home of the Indian Nations for greed; American troops invaded and took over Mexican Territory and made it part of the United States for greed. America is far from sinless in the world of war. In Syria, however, the people of the nation have asked for civil government with due consideration for the needs of the people who support the nation. Assad, however, is a power monger. He wants omnipotent power and complete control over the people and the wealth of the nation. And anyone who dare speak out against him is not merely of a differing opinion, they are immediately classified as an enemy and a terrorist and subject to be executed.

How you cannot understand this and, worse, defend Assad, is beyond me. The only true terrorist in Syria IS Assad. He butchers his own people wholesale if he even thinks they might present a threat. And you think this is right???? Really??? How about if Bush, upon the Republicans losing the last election, went out and ordered all Democrats executed? Or maybe if Obama, perceiving some potential threat, had all Republicans executed? That kind of behavior would not begin to make sense to any rational person, would it? Of course not. And neither does Assad's demented megalomania.

Meezermom @ #1.12: I am astounded at your flip-flopped, warped rant. First you castigate the people of Syria who pray for some kind of support from foreign nations (The UN, btw, has been working on some way to bring peace to the country for as long as there has been a revolution there. You do know that, right?) Then you turn the other way and rail against "the nations of treachery ruled by back stabbers and haters..." - the very entity the revolutionaries of Syria are trying to get rid of! You can't have it both ways. Instead of echoing every sound bite that comes your way, give the situation due consideration and figure out what you really believe.

      I. M. Moroni @ #1.4: Read a little more about the world before you start expounding on things about which you obviously are unfamiliar.

"... take their fight for freedom all the way to the steps of the current government"?

The Syrian people did, indeed, try this. It didn't work. It only ended with Syrian people being imprisoned. Then the people of Syria spoke out against this treatment of innocent citizens. That ended up in even more people being imprisoned. The cries of injustice grew louder and ... what do you suppose happened next? Assad the Butcher began killing the people he was supposed to be protecting.

So, you see, the people of Syria did not, just out of hand, go out to start a war against their own government. They only wanted justice and they wanted fair treatment of the people. Citizens of places such as America, Great Britain, France, and Germany cannot begin to fathom the oppression of a dictatorship. They live in relative peace and freedom. And them some dumbasterisk comes along and starts bad mouthing other nations for wanting that same kind of peace and freedom.

      It's just not that simple.

      And, COYOTEHUNTER @ #1.7:

"Sorry...We're fresh out of sympathy for middle eastern fanatics..."

Really? Fanatics, huh? That's exactly what the first Euro-Americans were. They demanded to be allowed to have some degree of freedom in how they worshipped their God. They complained when almost every penny they had was taken by the British royalty in taxes. They protested in the streets when they were ignored. They resorted to blowing up government buildings in protest. Then they hopped ships for the New World. But they were still persecuted by the crown and were forced to pay taxes to that government so far away on the other side of the ocean. They were pushed to the wall, so to speak and they revolted. They fought back until they won. They did have assistance from foreign countries, without which, The United States could still be paying tribute to the British crown.

People have a right to dignity and to live in peace without fear of being dragged out of their homes and shot in the streets no matter where they are.

Just cuz your "Christian" you think Syria was a beautiful country? I hope Assad goes down. OPPRESSING people and KILLING them doesn't justify to kill the rebels. Spread your lies else where but don't hide from the TRUTH. The only reason this war broke out was because of Assad and his evil regime. Using tanks, snipers, and military jets on his own people. Oh that's sounds so like the Rebels.....NO! Try again.

Of course the new Joint Special UN Ambassador says enough wasn't done--it hasn't. They slaughter each other for no reason all the time. Now this is coming to light. 20,000 dead and many innocent, women, and children are a low estimate of how many died. It might be in the 100's of thousands. We will never know-

Assad must go--well, UAE, why isn't he gone?. In code this means The UAE approves of murders for no reason. They always have.

P.S. New Ambassador. Watch out for your own life--it is a deadly job.

        No wonder he's "downbeat":

Terrorist attacks intensify after Western war threats against Syria

        By Johannes Stern

        3 September 2012

Over the weekend the Western-backed opposition in Syria stepped up its attacks on government buildings, military facilities and civilians as it aims to bring down Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and install a pro-Western client regime in Damascus.

Fighting between the Syrian army and Western proxy forces has been intensifying since US President Barack Obama threatened Syria with direct military intervention two weeks ago. Last week French President Hollande, British Foreign Secretary of State William Hague and Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi demanded Assad’s fall. Turkish foreign minister Ahmet Davutoglu also called for a no-fly zone over Syria. However, for the moment decisions to enforce a no-fly zone and launch open warfare against Syria have not been finalized.

The Western powers are still relying on their armed proxy forces inside Syria—like the Turkey-based Free Syrian Army (FSA) and various Sunni Islamist terrorist groups—to fight Assad.

Media reports indicated intense fighting between the Syrian army and anti-Assad forces throughout the weekend. Opposition sources said that armed insurgents had seized an air defense base close to Deir-Ez Zor on Saturday, and that battles were raging near a military airport in the area. Opposition fighters also claimed that they had targeted the regime’s air installations near Aleppo and Idlib in the northern part of Syria close to the Turkish border, and that they had shot down a Syrian fighter jet.

On Saturday a car bomb near the Muaz Bin Jabal mosque in the Sbaineh suburb of Damascus killed 15 civilians. The explosion also reportedly wounded several people and caused damage to buildings in the area. The Sbaineh district is dominated by Palestinian refugees who are mostly reluctant to join the pro-Western opposition against Assad.

The Syrian state-run news agency, SANA, reported that earlier on Saturday another bomb killed Brigadier General Taher Subeir, when he got into his car in front of his home in the Damascus district of Rukn Addien. Since the outbreak of armed struggle in Syria, over 8,000 soldiers and security personnel have been killed by the Western-backed armed opposition….

syrian free - dear friends all around the world , 22000 people died in syria just because they ask for freedom ,

FOS (Full Of Sh!t) = MUW, AceBlazin247 (ps YOU CAN'T Stand the Truth), thewordsmith, Sax1031, I. M. Moroni (people of Syria your arse, more like Fundamentalist Islamic Foreign Fighters),

        TIMELINE:

March 2009 President Obama announces his Iran Policy, that the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran can do anything without US Interventions, the US will Negotiate before doinganything.

March 2009 the Aytollahs of Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran tell President Obama to basically f**k off and die, NO EMPTY WORDS aka Negotiations.

The Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran after President Obama's Speech (March 2009 Iran Policy):

        a. Increases their purchases of 21st Century Weapons from the Chinese and Russian Federation using their Iranian Oil Wealth. This includes Chinese and Russian Federation Military Units at Iran to Operate and Maintain these 21st Century Weapons Systems.

        b. Accelerate their building of Underground Facilities below the current US and US Allies Weapons Systems capabilities of 250 feet like US NORAD and the USSR Ural Mountain Complex.

        c. Request and get the Russian Federation to process their Raw Uranium Ore (Rocks, extraction of Uranium the hardest part). This accerates the Iranian Nuclear Program by Decades.

        d. Overt support of the Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists Worldwide with Money, Weapons, etc. specifically Bomb Making Materials and Rockets to Gaza, Palestine.

        e. The Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran has their Special Forces, Quds, train, arm, fund, organize the Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists in Asymmetric Warfare that gathered from Worldwide at the Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadist Training Camp located at Southern Turkey, part of Syria, most of Northern Iraq, and Northwestern Iran also known as the Fundamentalist Islamic Autonomous Kurdistanis Region. For use as the Fundamentalist Islamic ShiaRepublic of Iran "Proxy Fighters". This The Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran Special Forces Training was in Asymmetric Warfare, Insurgency, as to go into a Nation and get the people to fight for their Cause(s) for perceived or real injustices to create a Civil War to Overthrow the US Allies Established Governments. Having been US Military Asymmetric Warfare for a longtime, takes one to know one (what the Islamic Jihadist trained to do) as to conduct Counter Insurgency Warfare you have to have extensive experience and training in Insurgency Warfare.

        f. In 2010 US Ally Turkey attacks the Fundamentalist Islamic Autonomous Kurdistanis Region. US Ally Turkey believed that only the Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists of the Kurdistanis PKK, HPG, KGK were there (Southern Turkey, part of Syria, most of Northern Iraq, and Northwestern Iran) because US Ally Turkey f**ked up by not having their Turkish Special Forces conduct SR (Special Reconnaissance) Missions first before attacking.

This area being used as the Main Worldwide Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadist Training Camp is NOT new, as after the October 2001 Mission to Afghanistan after the 9/11 2001 Attacks this is the same area that the Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban, Fundamentalist Islamic Al Quada, Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadist (that were at the Islamic Jihadist Training Camps at Afghanistan) fled to via the Old Silk Road to escape us killing them with extreme prejudice at Afghanistan; resulting in US Law 2002 Iraqi War Resolution to allow us to continue to eliminate them in 2002 Operation Hotel California.

The surprise to US Ally Turkey was the sheer numbers of Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists (hundreds of thousands from all over the World). The Fundamentalist Islamic Kurdistanis PKK, HPG, KGK, with no where to go, perform a holding action against the US Ally Turkey Military while the hundreds of thousands of Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists flee back to the Nations of their Origins:

        1. Fundamentalist Islamic Al Quada Syria flee to Syria, current situation. In response the Russian Federation to support their Ally President Assad deploys their Russian Federation Admiral Kutzenov Aircraft Carrier Battle Group to Tartus, Syria. Fundamentalist Islamic Al Quada Syria starts to incite the people of Syria into a Civil War as they were trained to do by the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran's Special Forces.

        2. Fundamentalist Islamic Muslim Brotherhood flee to Alexandria Egypt, and start to incite the people of Egypt into a Revolution to Overthrow the US Ally President of Egypt as they were trained to do by the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran's Special Forces. The Fundamentalist Islamic Muslim Brotherhood sends a representative to the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran to negotiate for support, with the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran getting rid of a US Ally, gaining access to the Strategic Suez Canal, Mediterranean Bases, locations closer (logistics) to attack US Ally Israel. Currently, 2012, the Fundamentalist Islamic ShiaRepublic of Iran is mobilizing their Long Ranged Land Based Hypersonic and Supersonic Anti Ship Missile Batteries and Intergrated Anti Aircraft Systems (same ones that detected the US RQ-170s Stealth "Drone") accompanied by the Chinese and Russian Military that Operate and provide maintenance, it is not confirmed that they will be deploying to the Suez Canal to deny US and US Allies access to the Strategic Suez Canal.

        3. The Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists of Al Quada Saudi Arabia (AQ), Al Quada Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), Al Quada Syria (AQS), Al Quada Yemen (AQY), Hezbollah, Al Quada Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), etc. go to Libya to Overthrow Former US Ally President Gaddaffi as a Collaborator to the Christians, Jews, Unbelievers and his: a. Sending his Libyan Military to kill the Islamic Jihadists at Libya, especially the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group and Al Quada; b. Cooperatingwith the US CIA and US Allies Intelligence Agencies; c. Instituting of Human Rights as praised by the UN and UA (African Union) a violation of Islamic Laws, especially Women's Rights as President Gaddaffi's written contract to the Libyan People Green Book listing their Civil and Human Rights; d. Denouncing and destroying all pursuits of Nuclear Energy and WMDs (funded by the Fundamentalist Islamic Arab League of Nations); e. Accepting the Islamic Jihadist Prisoners of President Bush and President Obama from Guantanamo transferred to President Gaddaffi's Prisons; f. Redacted; g. etc. (Documented History). Doing a thru e. to get the UN, US, US European Allies to lift the Embargoes, Sanctions, etc. against Libya to export Libyan Oil.

The Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists incite the so called people of Libya that start the Civil War are the non Libyan Citizens (Foreign Workers brought in to do the work that Libyan Citizens refuse to do) that do not receive President Gaddaffi'sCivil and Human Rights in his contract to the Libyan People aka "Green Book".

President Gaddaffi f**ks up and Declares Libyan Oil Nationalization. Since losing the Oil of Iraq, the Libyan Oil is of Strategic Importance to the US European Allies. At the G Meeting at France attended by SOS Clinton, the European Oil Corporations are demanding their Nations send their Militaries to Libya to Overthrow President Gaddaffi to stop his Oil Nationalization that would take all control of the Libyan Oil away from the US European Ally Oil Corporations. The Fundamentalist Islamic Arab League of Nations likes this (Get rid of Collaborator to the Christians, Jews, Unbelievers President Gaddaffi) and demand action thru the United Nations. February, the US European Allies Oil Corporation withdraw their employees from Libya in anticipation of their Nations Military Attacks.

Former US Ally President Gaddaffi is Overthrown. RESULTS: The Islamic Nation of Qatar negotates with the Islamic Jihadist aka the Rebels for the Libyan Oil to go to the Ally of the Fundamentalist Islamic ShiaRepublic of Iran, the Chinese. The Islamic Jihadists release the Islamic Jihadists of President Obama sent from Guantanamo. The Islamic Jihadists obtain 20,000 shoulder launched portable anti aircraft SA-7 missile to shoot down US (Civilian)Airlines "to cripple the US Economy" since their other attempts failed (shoebomber, underware bomber, laser toner cartridge bombs, etc.). Another Islamic Nation indebted to the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran is created.

        4. The Fundamentalist Islamic ShiaRepublic of Iran places pressure on the Islamic Shia Nation of Iraq to NOT negotiate with President Obama nor SOS Clinton for the US to remain at Iraq; the US MUST withdraw in accordance with President Bush's Iraq Withdrawal Time Table regardless of the situation at Iraq changing (as President Obama was warned by his Executive Intelligence Agency, the CIA; the increasing Strategic Sphere of Influence of the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran). The President Obama's lie, US withdraws US Combat Units from Iraq and replaces them with "Non Combat" Units (trained as Combat Units), to secure the 104 acres of the $1 Billion US Embassy Compound 16,000 - 1,500 US Embassy personnel remain at Iraq to conduct combat patrols outside the wire. Other US Military Forces are moved from Iraq to Kuwait, and in response to the Syria situation are deployed to Jordan. The Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran gets direct and indirect control of the Iraqis Northern and Southern Oil Fields, and then negotiate for their Allies the Chinese and Russian Federation to get the Iraqis Oil that could have paid for the US and US Allies Military Liberation of Iraq with Decades to Centuries of Iraqis Oil. This loss of Iraqis Oil later on makes the Libyan Oil of Strategic Importance to the US European Allies.

        5. The Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran places pressure on the US Ally Government of Pakistan to: a. Not allow US Military Installations in the Islamic Nation of Pakistan; b. Not allow the US to use Pakistan as a Logistics route to supply Afghanistan. Or the Fundamentalist Islamic ShiaRepublic of Iran will have the Fundamentalist Islamic people of Pakistan and the Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists Overthrow the US Ally Pakistanis Government, just like they did at Libya, Egypt, Yemen, etc..

        6. The Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran increases their direct support to the Fundamentalist Islamic Taliban, Fundamentalist Islamic Al Quada at Afghanistan, etc. and pressure US Ally Government of Afghanistan to negotiate the High Tech Mineral Wealth of Afghanistan with Iran's Ally the Chinese. This High Tech Mineral Wealth of Afghanistan is NECESSARY for all current and Future US Alternative Energy. In 2011 the China MetallurgicalGroup obtains the Mineral Rights to all of the Afghanistan High Tech Minerals, other Chinese Corporations recieve the Rights to other Afghan Resources.

        FACTS:

Fundamentalist Islam IS: Shia as in Fundamentalist Islamic Shia (Sharia) Law, the Holy Koran as Law, the Ancient Islamic Customs as Law (Hadith). There is no other Interpretation of the Holy Koran all others are Heretics, subject to the Death Penalty. Islam is NOT a pick and choose. The 109 Suras of the 114 Surasof the Holy Koran Calls to All Islamic Believers to War Against the Christians, Jews, Unbelievers must be participated in under penalty of Death. "Western", "Modern","Non Islamic" NOT Tolerated. No such thing as "Empty Words" (Negotiations), instead, the Fundamentalist Islamic Rule is "Shoot First as the Dead do not Complain". Since the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia believe in the use of force first they usually use all their wealth on weapons, and not on the people of their Islamic Nation.

Fundamentalist Islamic Amin Al Husseini as the Representative to the Islamic World signs the Forever Alliance in 1933 with Chancellor Hitler. And forms the Elite SS Muslim Brigades to start the roundups otthe German "Political" Prisoners and Jews at Germany.

The Fundamentalist Islamic Arab League of Nations co founded by Fundamentalist Islamic Amin Al Husseini, the Original Charter to Exterminate the Jews. Assists in the co founding of the Fundamentalist Islamic Muslim Brotherhood. Insists that the "Islamic World" institute the Pan Arabic Plan to keep the Jews out of the "Islamic World" by moving Arabs into those areas the Jews are leaving Europe and arriving at the Islamic World; the Christians, Jews are moved by armed force out of Palestine; and Jordanians and Egyptians (usually the undesirables from those Nation's Prisons) are moved into Palestine by armed force; Palestine was previously built up by the British (Christians) and the Jews as a Modern Colony, this was destroyed as "Non Islamic" by the Fundamentalist Islamic Believers from Jordan and Egypt.

Fundamentalist Islamic Amin Al Husseini almost foaming at the mouth (old film footage, spit on both sides of his mouth) demands the Fundamentalist Islamic Arab League of Nations attack the Jews arriving at the British Protectorate (Former British Colony). The The Fundamentalist Islamic Arab League of Nations demands that the British not allow anymore Jews into the Islamic World and strongly protests to the United Nations. The United Nations does nothing.

The members of the Fundamentalist Islamic Arab League of Nations, instead of spending their Oil Wealth and vast wealth on improving their Nations buy weapons while their people starve, so Nations like Egypt their Military made up of Egyptians do things to help their own Families while the (Islamic) Egyptian Government does nothing. The Fundamentalist Islamic Arab League of Nations demands that Embargoes and Sanctions be placed against the Jews buying or obtaining weapons, ammunition, "materials of War", and the UN does; while the members of theFundamentalist Islamic Arab League of Nations are building large Armies to attack the Jews. Volunteer US Military Officers as "Civilians" some previous OSS go to the "Middle East" to assist the Jews form a Protection Force to stop the "random" killings (massacres) of unarmed Jews by the well armed Military Forces of Nations of the Fundamentalist Islamic Arab League of Nations; many Nations of the World really don't care about the Jews getting killed by the 100s to 1000s, especially the "Industrialists" like Henry Ford's Hatred of the Jews (his Document Speeches claiming the Jews were the problem with America and his personal funding of printing copies to give out for free of the blame the Jews for everything, "Protocols of the Wise Elders of Zion" as his attempts to incite the US Public against the Jews at America ala Chancellor Hitler).

To insure the hatred of the Jews forever Fundamentalist Islamic Amin Al Husseini thru the Fundamentalist Islamic Arab League of Nations has the Education Systems at all Islamic Nations institute the Mandatory School Curicuulum of Hilter's Mein Kampftaught as a Success Story sabotaged by the Jews, and the Blame the Jews for Everything, "Protocols of the Wise Elders of Zion";. Childern are required to attend the Fundamentalist Islamic Massaras by Fundamentalist Islamic Laws.

The Sunnis: The "Moderate", "Liberal", "Modern", "Tolerance" interpretation of the Holy Koran as declared as Islamic Heretics by the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia. Their belief in Negotiations First, and getting shot in the face by the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia that do notbelieve in "Empty Words" is why there are more Fundamentalist Islamic Shia than Sunnis. This Kill First of the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia started at the very beginnings of Islam, starting the Centuries Old Hatred between the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia and Sunnis. Sunnis belief in the use of armed Force after all other means are expended, then they usually get someone else to fight for them thru negotiations. Typically, the Sunnis spend their wealth on their people first and weapons last, usually paying their Citizens just because they are (Loyal) Citizens. The Sunnis Rule of Law is Fiqh (Logic), not the Sharia Laws nor the Hadith; they will use the Sharia Laws and Hadith only when their people demand.

Fundamentalist Islamic (Shia)Jihadist International Franchise of Al Quada: Created by Osama Bin Laden while living with his Rich Relatives at Saudi Arabia as ANTI (Sunnis) Saudi Arabian Government, AntiUS; during the same time frame as Operation Cyclone at Afghanistan, that is why Osama Bin Laden DID NOT participate in fighting the USSR (Russian) 40th Army Occupation.

BOTTOMLINE: Instead of all the accusatory (almost derrogatory at Islamic Nations) finger waving of Fundamentalist Islamic Lakhdar Brahimi. Like the Fundamentalist Islamic Arab League of Nations has told the US and the US European Allies (aka Crusaders) Many, many, many, many times before "Don't stick your nose into OUR Business".

LET THE FUNDAMENTALIST ISLAMIC ARAB LEAGUE OF NATIONS KILL OTHER ISLAMIC BELIEVERS. So that the Islamic Believers can "Burn forever in that Fiery Place" per the Holy Koran, not the US nor US Allies

(sarcasm) Thank you President Obama for your March 2009 Iran Policy, you "only" undid our decades of work from the 1980 (1979) till 2011 at the cost of hundreds of thousands of US Military Asymmetric Warfare (aka Special Warfare) attached to the CIA's SAD/SOG, US Military, US Allies, Trillions USDs, etc., loss of Strategic Resources and Locations Worldwide. LOL, all of you of Generation X and Generation Y that go gaga over President Obama, most of us that had been involved as Middle East (Islam) Qualified since the 1980s will be gone, so since you believe in President Obama so much as not to be hypocrites, YOU FIX YOUR OWN MESS OR DIE TRYING.

And while you are doing that, get rid of President Obama's January 21, 2009 Patriot Acts, President Obama's 2012 NDAA that eliminated our Constitutional Rights, Due Process of US Law, etc..

@David-475776 yesh how many facts do you have wrong? I will use your numbers even though I doubt you will go back, and check to see that I am right. My guess is you are Israeli or pro at least to bring up Iran so many times.

        1. Iran supports Assad not the rebels. Could you explain why Iran asked and tried to get support for Syria during the recent conference? Al-Qaeda supports the rebels not Assad.

        2. The Muslim Brotherhood has been in Egypt for 70 or 80 years and did not start the revolution. The revolution was started by young people there. The country has been mainly Muslim for a very long time it is just that Mubarak was an oil puppet that sold oil to Israel for much less then it was worth. A third of the actual cost if my memory serves me. Morsi the new president of Egypt pissed off Iran and some other with his speech during the convention, but he also supports the rebels.

        3. Gaddafi was also an oil puppet. As long as you supply the U.S. and all its allies with oil for cheap we let you do what ever you want to your people.

You really start to ramble worse then Clint E. after that point. Back when the people of Iran wanted a democracy under the Shaw of Iran (1979), the U.S. government did not support them and instead supported the Shaw (dictator). Why not go back there to see the history between the two countries. How we supported Saddam at the time. We even supported Al-Qaeda when it served our purposes. Need I go on, talk about a fu*'ed up foreign policy. Be happy you were born here and not over there, guess what religion you would more then likely be? Imagine that you a Muslim, lol.

Keep up the good fight in Syria, I wish there was more we could do.

If at first you don't succeed, try and try again.

With proper organization and a will to win, the rebels in Syria can prevail over their dictator.

Maybe the Syrians need to read Charles Dickens Tale of Two Cities.

We aren't the worlds policemen. Atrocities happen around the world with genocide in Africa taking more than 1 million lives. The Muslim coutries in that region have sufficient force to deal with Syria if they chose to do it. They may think American lives are less valuable, I disagree.

Peace will come after enough blood has been spilt. Should Assad's forces win nothing will change. Should the terrorists/ freedom fighters win they will respect their new fought for freedoms more then if another countrie came in and did the fighting for them. One has to wonder if the people will be better off without Assad as we have seen the results of Lybia and Egypt.

7.62... you are viewing the Syrians as if they were Americans. They are Islamics. That will not change. Islamics do not have "democracies." They have Theocracies. Allah is the boss, explicitly, and runs the country. Most important, the Qu'ran tells it like it is. Which, if I read three translations correctly, is annihilate anyone not Islamic as we are pagans and must not remain on this globe.

It sounds like fruit cake to most of us, because most of us have been raised opposite to those convictions. Not just "different" but OPPOSITE... diametrically Opposite. Haven't you noticed what has happened in the rebellions that succeeded? Allah still rules. He just has a different spokesperson. Nothing has changed except his interlocutors. Theocracies, btw, are the political rule of a country directly by God or Allah or YHWH... whichever might apply.

And we do not apply, so... off with our heads. (Unless, of course, we wise up somehow)

Peace will come only when there is no more blood to shed! Obviously you have no Middle East experience, dude. The Enemy of my friends are my enemies until my friends give reason for me to be their enemy! Among others as I remember. I'm no expert as I've only lived as one of them. My experiences with of those who make up the real color of those regions, They are the folks the media, politicos and You would never have access to. The very same folks who have no say as to how their lives will play out. Yep them folks. So I'm not an expert. Got many eclipses from Golan to Gaza, Lebanon to Libya, Egypt to Ethiopia, Damascus to Dearborn, MI (LOL), mucho time. If there was a $hithole I got sent there. From goat herding in the moon-dust to surfing(LOL) off the coast of Beirut International Airport. Yes, it is true Hadji don't surf! I've done most of it and seen even more. Have you? What scares the hell out of these Sunni/Ba'athist countries and Iran is a group of folks dating back to 1935 Palestine. This group of folks are the masters of making something potent with left-over scraps. No one's better at it than them. Not even the Narcos of Mexico!! They're highly educated in both their culture and extremely educated in Western culture as a big chunk of them are indeed Western-educated. They don't seek to be top dog, instead they're more potent in winning Parliament seats instead. Again were talking about regional and factional governments instead of states or counties like here. Law does not apply to all depending upon what faction and region the subject. Christian, Druise, etc. get different rules. Anyhow these guys (no women need apply) are more willing to spread a little of the wealth. Saudis, Emeratis, Kuwaitis, Omanis, etc. tremble at that thought! They're the ruling class of the working-middle-class, the top of the heap in Law, Economics and Islamist culture. That's why they were so oppressed by the fundamentalists. They are the very best in the use of the sword and are just as good , if not better, in voicing towards a solution. They have no hesitation going to the sword either! Dave is mighty close to being top dog here. Very few dents in his post. He knows, do any of you Middle-East experts have an answer! Ever heard of the Brotherhood? Yeah, them fellas!! Whatever is said, bottom line is that they're Islamist all the way! Ahu-sharmota ayi-fek and marg-bar to the rest! Another courtesey bone thrown into the mix, folks. Personally, the 300 WinMag served me better in getting Uncle's point across than the X39, X51, X54R or the 338 Lapua. Catch my drift, son? Get some experience of yer own, see for your self, quit listening to what the bought-and-paid-fer media will only tell ya'. Nothing like a real working experience on the subject to put a spine to an opinion. Get some, yer words will mean more, dude!

While I'm at it 7.62, Assad even took in a mortal enemy to suppliment his war with the FSA. He let in the Hezzies as long as they sight on his side. He's got very little left in annexed Lebanon. Hezbollah's enemy Hamas is growing there, Israel knows this and will have no problem setting foot north of the line. Why? Again it helps to have a working knowledge, son. Being there and seeing fer yer self is key. The Media don't make the cut. Israel steps into Lebanon creates a buffer zone. Better to fight the enemy outside your border than inside, dude! Ya learn that by playin' that game. 'Call of Duty' on a game-pad don't cut it either, boy!! Anyhow when Lebanon dries out of Syrian presence (very soon) is when Israel will strike Iran. Make no mistake, Israel has to do it. No choice. She'll say screw Uncle Sam, he don't live here and then deal with the consequences. Also, the FSA ain't really any better than the side they're fighting. We knew what is now the FSA as the Reebok and Nike Militias. Dumber than the Black Flags Brigades. Remember them? Oh, you weren't there either. Them boys liked to cross the border into Iraq in getting experience fighting Americans and Brits. Most of them fell, but some made it back into Syria and taught what they learned to what is now the FSA. All the same song and dance. So all you armchair diplomacy experts out there, get some of your own!

The rebels could care less about America. They only want the weapons. If America were to intervene, it would be the end of Assad. But alliegences shift faster than the desert winds in the middle east. The Mujahadeen received American assistance versus "Soviet Oppression". Perhaps Carter was wrong, and the Soviet occupation was a better option in Afghanistan.

America is an easy target of condemnation. So is Isreal. You never hear people like Morsi or the Islamic brother hood condemning Russia or China. They're too afraid. America has been the target of condemnation and accusations of moral corruption, decadence, blasphemy, and disbelief since the 1950's when brotherhood author Qutb wrote his book 'milestones'. According to Qutb and his Qu'ran, Americans are beasts. Qutb's brother was one of Bin Laden's teachers at the university in Saudi Arabia.

There is no interest for America to support the rebels. They wear the black flags and bandanas of Al Qaida, an offshoot of the brotherhood and shout "AllahuAkbar" when they kill soldiers in tanks or helicopters. The hijackers shouted the same thing as their planes slamed into American monumental architecture. They have already started to intimidated religious minorites. What can we expect at the end of such a rebellion.

China and Russia have no concern for voices of dissent. They have no institutions to protect the rights of free expression. This is the only voice they listen to in the middle east. Then it is Russia and China who will win unopposed.

Who wants to help Syrians? Show the world a new face, not the same one we've seen before, and we'll reconsider.

Is there anyone with a brain in their head who doesn't know that the United Nations is, and has been since its inception, an exercise in "Tower of Babel" foolishness?

If you will give veto power on the security counsel to three of the most duplicitous nations on earth, who at every turn stand in the way of any U. S. resolution and use their power to keep in power despots such as Saddam and Assad, what can we expect?

We should cease supporting this exercise in futility and face the fact that just like the useless League of Nations before it, it has become a forum for nationalistic agendas that have no regard for human life nor the ultimate good of humanity.

Charles - well said. The fact of the matter is that people like Assad and Saddam know, as Mao said, "power comes for the barrel of a gun". However, in order to maximize the respect of that power you have to USE IT in such a manner that abject fear is instilled in your enemies AND their supporters thus stifling their will to resist. This is why we're losing in Afganistan, will ultimately lose in Iraq, and are laughed at by nations that in the near future will be able to confront us militarily anywhere on the face of the earth - China and Russia. A second point to consider is that while we play games in the Middle East trying to destabilze countries that are no threat to us, a country on our own border has factions that have killed over 40,000 of it's citizens in the last 4 years and around 150 US citizens. WHAT ARE WE DOING ABOUT THAT?????

And yet the UN is trying to create a large enough catastrophe in this world so they can declare themselves defacto government over the whole world. Ask yourself again why 6000 Russian troops were allowed to land in Maine. The UN has continually tried to undermine the American constitution and yet our government continues to support them. I say pull our money and pull our troops out of the UN and watch it die because without either it will die.

                  Charles the Hammerhead

LOL - you're blaming our funding for the Mujahideen (that is the correct spelling) on Carter. First, leadership in Afghanistan requested the Soviet Union's intervention against the Mujahideen because they are radicals and always have been. The Soviet Union intervened and then the CIA began to fund the "rebels," because we saw it as a way to embarrass the Soviet Union.

So - all of those radical Muslims in soccer stadiums cutting off people's heads in Afghanistan - that was Bush Sr.'s (head of the CIA at the time) doing. Osama Bin Laden - also Bush Sr. The taliban? Bush Sr.

All so that we could make the Soviet Union look weak and expend their resources fighting a forever losing battle. One that we are now fighting against the very same people.

The only thing you can blame on Carter is that this all began in the last year of his administration, but at that point it was nothing but sanctions against the Soviet Union. The militarization took place when Reagan was in office.

POINT IS THIS - anytime the CIA gets involved in these little operations, they end up training the next wave of people that we eventually end up fighting. Doesn't that strike a little odd with you? Is the real reason so that we can have a 2.5 trillion a year defense expenditure?

You folks are right on, in all your various ways.

The point made about the UN is especially cogent and I am glad someone pointed it out. The UN members are enjoying living off of us, but not more than that. It is a weak organization and I think should be helped along their way.

To me it makes more sense that we identify our real colleagues... and those are all of us here in the west from whom most of us have descended. I think that Russia might be approached. It would be suicide for them to support the Islamics (Allah does not take kindly to The Communist Manifesto...

But we are more liberal over here.

The huge question for me (and in more ways than one...) is where China and Japan would stand if this all comes to a head. They are both an ancient culture although they are flirting what the Communistic approach is these days. Democracy is not, I think, in their vocabulary unless it helps them rub our dollar bills between their fingers. Yet many of them have done wonderful things here in the United States...

                  It's a puzzlement, isn't it.

Safe zone, sound's good like all politically motivated military action does. But in reallity it would be NATO member's protecting, not fleeing civilian's, but protecting what ever ground the rebel's advance and control. NATO would then be in direct conflict with any government troop's ability to counter rebel advancment. If the rebel's can't hold the ground then what chance have they of running the country, win or lose on their own is the only way a functioning country will come out of this mess they created.

Good for Russia and China for seeing through the west never ending attempt to meddle. Humanitarian aid does not come from the belly of gunship's no matter what title they give it.

People who advocate the use of nukes to solve problems do not realize that the first use of a nuke will be the spark to use all the nukes. (See the movies Wargames) It really does not matter who uses one on whom, the first use will just be a trigger to empty everyone's arsenals. So you could kill Assad at the cost of civilization itself.

That's just hype. A nuke is a bomb just like any other, just a bigger one with longer lasting effects. Drop one on Syria and no one would drop one on us unless they wanted to engage in nuclear war with us and who wants that? Especially over a nothing-country like Syria.

We would, however, be subject to swift international sanctions that might be just as devastating.

Not really hype. A nuke is definitely not a bomb just like any other. Nukes are in a class all by themselves. Nuclear friends of Syria would launch a counter strike against who launched against Syria, resulting in more counter strikes. Israel would launch on the assumption that they would be blamed and feared losing their launch sites and the chain reaction would result in everyone launching. Study after study has shown that even the U.S. will launch rather than risk losing their capability.

MORE FOS (Full Of Sh!t) Opinions.

Before getting yanked from my cush job of teaching Nuclear (Weapons) Physics and flung into US Military Career Field of Asymmetric Warfare (aka Special Warfare) "Middle East" Qualified, I did Hands On Training at the "School House".

RepublicanMILawyer - There's a simple and effective fix: assassinate Assad. A 10 megaton nuclear warhead on a cruise missile, aimed at his house, should do the job.

You believe that a 10 mega ton nuclear warhead will physically fit on a cruise missile, if so what "W" number.

What do you think the Russian Federation's response will be when you also destroy their Admiral Kuznetsov Aircraft Carrier Battle Group currently at their Syrian Mediterranean Port.

Stop watching cartoons, nuclear detonations do NOT only affect nice neat circles on maps.

You want me to embarrass you with more FACTS.

President Assad is NOT the problem just like Former US Ally President Gaddaffi was NOT the problem; the Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists are the REAL Problem.

And the other Problem is the ignorant mindset of most people that the Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists are just a minority of the 1.5 Billion Islamic Believers Worldwide, or that they don't have much support. When in Fact the Islamic Jihadists are funded with Trillions USDs per year from the 1.5 Billion Islamic Believers Worldwide that also must by Islamic Laws provide the Islamic Jihadists with Fundamentalist Islamic Sanctuary. So too f**king bad the Fundamentalist Islamic Jihadists outnumber and are fully funded and supported Internationally Worldwide compared to the entire US and US Allies Militarises and Intelligence Agencies.

And before any of you say something really stup!d, the 1.8 Million Islamic Believers living at the US do NOT make the Rules for the Majority of the 1.5 Billion Islamic Believers Worldwide (majority being Fundamentalist Islamic Believers, Shia, by killing off the liberal moderate Sunnis). So do not post ignorant, "well, the Muslims I met at the US are great" etc..

This discussion is terrific as far as I am concerned. It's got my brains working away more than rather a few recent months when I wasn't on a puter :)

I don't agree with all of the positions.. but, they are well expressed and I am learning a lot I didn't know. I happen to like that. It is never boring! lol

Folks, at this time Islam represents the face of terrorism to the world and only Islam can rein terrorism in the name of Islam. When a culture can facilitate another human, and in some cases children, to don a boomer-suit to ascend their ideology, who other than the Grey-beards in Tehran who decide the direction of Islam to the Mullahs and Imams? Only Islam can rein that in. Until that happens Islam will always be suspect and rightly so. The problem the Muslim world is facing is that everybody wants to be the boss. Therein lies their biggest headache. Unity isn't all there. Egypt was a hotbed in that just about every flavor of factions exist there. Hundreds! Somehow Mubarak had it rolling. He only lasted so much because unlike other dictators, he knew when NOT to crack down. When he did, he spread the heat around. Like Dave says, the Fundamentalists (Old-School) guys ARE the problem because they are the vast majority! When it comes to Iran changing, and it will, it will be because the have the greatest ingredient to facilitate change. Iran has the youngest and most educated folks around. on top of that they're more in tune to the outside world to boot. Egypt had more old dudes! They got through. When generations of self-serving misinterpretations of the Koran are taught in the massadras (religious schools) what results is an adult who's brainwashed into doing the dirty-work for the cause. I remember reading the textbooks the Arafat's Fatah had been using. Hate taught and the Holocaust wasn't even mentioned! From Gaza to the West Bank. No wonder he was run out into Lebanon. It's no wonder that Jordan threw his ass out too with the sideline help of Israel. Yes, Israel! I know, I was there. Were any of you? Who wouldn't want to command such an army of willing martyrs! That's the real problem among these Fundamentalists. Nothing more dangerous to an Old Schooler (Fundamentalist) than a Moderate. That's why AQ did in Sadat! They stir the outhouse's filth and then fight to see who will go first. Dave's got the right tune to this mess!! Go Dave!!

We should not get involved there because Syria is a powder keg and our presence will just draw more into it and both sides will be against us, like in Iraq only worse.

That being said Assad has ruined things for himself and his entire Alawi tribe, because he fired on what were originally peaceful protestors and escalated. Their nation is in ruins and the majority hates the rulers. I expect the genocide will be returned on the Alawi by the Suni majority. Their rule over the others is why Assad fights. Once the Sunis slaughter them all it will be over.

I have no horse in this race. I am an American and do not know anyone there, but it long passed the point where the people were likely to forgive or even tolerate him and I expect the final outcome will be the end of the Alawi Syrians.

This one has to left to the region to be solved. We Americans, NATO, the UN etc. risk creating a much broader conflict with ourselves in the middle if we show up there at all. I think that we have no choice but to let the Arabs fight it out. Let them spend their own blood and treasure, there is nothing there but death and heavy expenses for us.

There is no such thing as a "Safe Zone" anywhere in the world, including here in the United States (remember 9/11, the biggest example, but there have been many more, just not publicized as much).

Get our men home PRONTO. We need them and want them here! This is our homeland. OK I am an American and I know there are other UN countries forces also "over there." This is not WW I or WW II, group. We cannot react in the same way.

It's odd... I have been away from a puter fox since last December, and even before.. this was my credo from March, 2011! I was yowling it when Mr. Presidential Mandate sent bomber to Libya to HELP THE REBELS.

Even then, and I am not a mental giant, group, I said nothing will change if you get rid of Qaddafi! And it hasn't. Sheesh the Mubarak thingy had happened soon before and that's when i snapped my fingers... and though sheesh we gotta get our men outta that area!!!!!

sigh OK.. no one listened to me then lol... but I kept fussing (it's what I tend to do...) but most of us were all in Nirvana somewhere not believing the worst could happen. I'm back now.. and...what I am seeing is... plz don't laugh at me.. I am seeing Hope... I wonder if you folks realize that we are all together on this.. at the bottom line. Sure we have different reasons. But.... that is good too. Cause folks are making points I haven't thought of and some of us others must be thinking the same?

We mustn't give up, you know. See the problem. Describe the problem. Solve the problem. You know brainstorming is one of the best kinds of problem solving.

The United States needs to take care of our own back yard first. There are too many taxes, too much corruption in government, too many unemployed, theft from the social security system, too many lobbyists, etc., etc., etc.

When we can control our borders, provide business and people with jobs so they can afford food and housing, provide proper irrigation for our crops, make sure our students get a decent education, get the drug trafficking problem under control and basically make the citizens of the United States proud to live here, "then" when we are the country others look forward to becoming alike should we provide further assistance in situations like this in Syria.

We, the United States, need to get our house and home in order first.

We need to get the pride back in the United States!!!

Numb3rTech, here is what you need to do to accomplish your goals. Control our borders? Shoot illegals on sight, make sure to use head shots. Provide jobs? Re-elect Obama and give him the mandate to nationalize ALL companies so that everyone works for the government and thus you can "provide" jobs. Proper irrigation? Rescind all agreements about waterways. Make sure that no fresh water leaves the country (dam or divert the Rio Grande for example). Decent education? Make the NEA and AFT illegal and ban all Liberals from school boards as they are the reason our public school systems cannot produce college worthy students. Control drug trafficking? Possession of amounts of drugs that qualify for "intent to sell" gets you the death penalty immediately after conviction, preferably in the courtroom.

I am already proud to live here (despite all the Liberals have done to weaken and cheapen this country). Everything you propose requires radical unacceptable solutions.

                                            Neal in Denver

In my beliefs, I could not approve of shooting to kill illegals on sight. I would prefer they just be turned around and told to make their own country better, right there at the border.

Providing jobs may prove easier. They could build a large pipeline from the regions that are flooding regularly and pump that water to Western and Northern states that are having drought problems. They could use the pumps during times when flooding starts. Also, instead of pouring money into companies that go bankrupt, put the money to help the coal powered electric plants rebuild to EPA specs and get the coal mines rolling again. There would be thousands of jobs right there.

Re-elect Obama? It is almost a coin toss for me. There are lots of things I do not like about either candidate.

But one thing I do not want is more or larger government!!!

I will agree with you on the drug trafficking, but I would prefer the death penalty to be on the 2nd or 3rd offense and put on television right after the late night news.

I am proud to be a Citizen of the United States also. I am not trying to come over as radical or extremist. I do have faith, but that faith also leads me keep guns within reach for safety as well as hunting occasionally.

Pardon my bitterness (or not) but I have been watching these problems for decades. The border and the drug problem are the same problem. Both continue because the majority of the offenders get away with their crimes. To effectively combat this problem requires making it a completely unpalatable risk to most of the offenders. For instance, once you realize the power of the IRS to make your life completely miserable, forever, most people pay their taxes relatively honestly. Do the same with the border and many fewer people will risk the consequences. Of course the real solution to the drug problem lies in reducing the demand which is why I am quite sanguine about executing distributors as many addicts feed their habits by becoming distributors. So my policy would be executing citizens as well as non-citizens.

It sounds like we are in agreement. The main problem is the terrorist from AlQaida, Chechnya, Saudi Arabia, FSA etc are being allowed to cross over from Turkey to behead and kill Christians and police ! Imagine in the USA if a group of thugs started killing police, soldiers, and Priests ????? You would have massive force fighting back! Assad has just been too nice ! He has the right to bomb Turkey to bits for arming these thugs ! Turkey also occupies the Sanjak of Alexandretta which belongs to Syria ! Also the real war crimminals are the news media foe their lies and misimformation, killary clinton, lieberman, mcCain, & Hague for giving the terrorist the arms ! Syria like ANY other nation has a right to defend herself from outside forces !

Both China and Russia have vetoed proposed U.N. Security Council resolutions intended to put pressure on Assad." The big reason neither country wants to see this is...They know their countries would be the next to see rebels fighting for freedom there and both leader would feel the same pressure to set down. Makes you wonder just how many would die in those countries. I'll bet hundreds of thousands in Russia and maybe millions in China. Both would be burying bodies with bulldozers.

Not... likely. The big reason China doesn't want any major calamities in this region is because that would drive their oil prices up. Relatively speaking, gas here is about 1990 US price. The price of nearly everything not imported is.

If there's war in Syria or Iran, like major war that disturbed the fuel exports, the price goes up to an unknown degree, thus contributing to fiscal instability in China, which is far more important than politics. People here in the city (aka the most empowered parts of the population) are pretty complacent as long as everything they need works and is affordable. Politics barely means anything to anyone here, because the censorship is also meaningless to the mostly technically savvy population.

It would take a LOT to get the 700 some million urban Chinese mad enough to actually rebel. Consider all the torrid abuse the US population has put up with for over a decade without rebelling before you say that sort of thing is possible in China, where things aren't stupid expensive and jobs aren't being lost in feverish numbers (at least not yet), and there is some credible semblance of public provision and livability.

Their reason for blocking these new forever-wars or anything that might too deeply endanger Syria is to prevent the economic fallout that would cause indeterminate harm to China, without them having a gentle way to respond.

Their only alternative, if Syria's exports become unavailable, would be to become more militarily assertive in their own waters to claim more resources in order to scare Vietnam and such away and assert undisputed control of the oil that's in the seas near China, which the USA also discourages and which disagrees with China's current defense policy anyway.

I can't really speak for Russia, as I don't live there, and I'm not taking China's side* accept to point out that their aversion to broader military horse@!$%#tery in Iran and Syria is most likely to do with economic interests. China is neither filled with nor run by ideological peons. They are run by people hyperfocused on trying to maintain the quality of life that they are building upon slowly, as this is what they have come to know is the way to keep power. They already know not to be too liberally iron-fisted because they're well aware that it's obsolete.

Time for the Middle East to either kill each other off or finally learn to live together without any outside assistance. The money we have spent on your wars would have completely funded alternative energy for the US thus further removing a reason for the greedy US oil boys to convince us the US people to engage your lives.
