'Jesus is a monkey' daubed on Jerusalem monastery wall

Hebrew graffiti, including the phrase "Jesus is a monkey," was written on the walls of a monastery in Jerusalem in what police suspect was an attack by right-wing, pro-settler extremists. NBCNews.com's Dara Brown reports.

Hebrew graffiti, including the phrase "Jesus is a monkey," was daubed on the walls of a monastery near Jerusalem early Tuesday in what police suspect was a so-called 'Price Tag' attack by right-wing, pro-settler extremists, according to reports.

Vandals torched the wooden door of the Latrun Monastery and spray-painted the graffiti on the holy site's stone walls, Israeli police said.

A Trappist monk stands between graffiti reading in Hebrew, "Jesus is a monkey" (L) and "mutual guarantee, Ramat Migron and Maoz Ester" (West Bank settlements) (R), which was sprayed on the wall of the Latrun Monastery between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv on Tuesday after unknown people set the monastery's door ablaze.

"Police have opened a special investigation into the incident," Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said.

Israeli security officials had expressed concern about possible acts of retribution by a suspected settler vigilante campaign known as 'Price Tag' for Sunday's court-ordered eviction of 50 families from Migron, a settler site near the West Bank city of Ramallah. Police believe the incident was part of the campaign, the Times of Israel and the Jerusalem Post reported.

Rosenfeld said "Migron" and the words "Jesus is a monkey" were among the phrases scrawled at the monastery, which is located inside Israel but not far from the occupied West Bank.

'Price Tag' incidents are so-called because the extremists believe their attacks are extracting a price from Palestinians for their action in evicting settlers.

Jerusalem Post reporter Melanie Lidman posted pictures of the graffiti on Twitter.

She reported that, following the evacuation of Migron on Sunday, Judea and Samaria District police commander Amos Yaakov said: "I assume that there will be an increase in 'Price Tag' incidents, and we have carried out preparations for this."

The attack happened at around 3:30 a.m. local time Tuesday (8:30 p.m. ET Monday) and was quickly discovered by monks, who notified police, she reported.

The report added that the monastery was a way station for pilgrims on their way from Jaffa to Jerusalem in the 19th century, and that the current building was built in 1890.

By the way, seriously, anyone, what is wrong with being compared to a monkey anyway?

What negative qualities do monkeys conjure in our minds? Pigs, I get, they are sloppy and wallow in the mud; dogs, you see them humping a lot; rabbits, they breed like crazy; chickens, they run away at the slightest threat; snakes, they crawl on the ground, so they are "lowlife"; mules, stubborn. But what is the monkey thing?

I was born in the year of the monkey, and in the East Asian horoscope, the monkey is seen as a very clever animal, so I consider being compared to a monkey rather as a compliment.

this will get more intensive , Jesus had swastikas and lightning bolts on him also

Swastikas on Jesus? Well, Hitler WAS a very staunch christian; he even justified his policy toward the Jews with biblical christianity.

The swastika is an ancient symbol that was adopted by the Nazi party. It is thought to have represented the sun thousands of years ago. However, it is unrelated to Jesus, as far as I know.

You sound like a true Christian ... from the Inquisition. On second thought, you sound more like a Muslim. Yeah? And how many atheist a**es have you "wipped", whatever that is? It's either "whipped" or "wiped". My guess, in your case, is that it's "wiped". Maybe you'll run into me one day. Then you'll understand what "whipped" actually means.

I have never heard of atheists starting a war, or even fighting for their (lack of) belief. They are generally on the defensive and want to simply be left alone.

                  "Jesus is a monkey"

I think people are purposely missing the point because it can touch spirits.

The "MONKEY" slur is used often in referring to Negroes (Israelites), Africans (Hamites) and Asians (Yahphites). This is why Khazarian Israelis hate Christ so much because he was a man of color. Jew-ish people hate Christ, because they know the truth about Christ versus Unlearned Ignorant Constantine Christians that refuse to acknowledge the 1611 KJV Bible, and pick up modified version to suit their taste that Christ is white. Also don't give me that OLIVE skin excuse. There is two colors of OLIVE. BLACK and GREEN. It's time to tell the truth about the biblical figures in the 1611 KJV Bible and stop living in delusion. Those people are trans-planters. If Arabs hated them so much and wanted to wipe them out then why didn't they do it when they were in Germany and Poland? Hitler would had not mind with his satanic self. It's because of the expansion is why the MEDES are stirred up according to the MOST HIGH.

God belief is divisive. It pits groups of people against each other, fuels wars, and allows men to commit unspeakable cruelties with a clear conscience. The foolish, childish, wishful idea of an "afterlife" is the sole motivation of suicide attackers. It is high time that we grow up as a thinking species, reject the foolish superstitions of our ignorant prehistoric ancestors, and start learning to accept each other and help each other instead of fighting amongst ourselves like a bunch of petulant children.

It's called RELIGION Leroy. Lucifier created RELIGION for that purpose. To confuse man from knowing the truth with division. Same with Atheitism, another satanic religion. The bible speaks about those who are non-belivers who are the fools at heart. Let rid of religion, then you have clarity of the most high. I don't blame you being an atheist (if you are) religion has told you may lies.

The priest did it himself, believe me. Look at his face in the picture. The indignation is fake. The spelling is atroscious and any Jew prides themselves on their education. No Jew did this. Besides, even muslims in Israel know how to write and read in Hebrew. You have to in order to live there, it's the national language. And one more thing: it is a gross misconception regarding the "eye for an eye" philosophy that Jews get revenge. Their #1 priority is forgiveness. In the christian bible it looks that way cuz you dropped half the chapters and verses out of everything. Not the same bible. "Eye for an eye" is the consequences for people who refuse to follow the golden rule. The jews evacuating the west bank wouldn't have even thought of this guy, let alone lash out at some random person. Maybe he tells on himself and his church? Maybe they ARE mixed up in this after all, behind the scenes? I think this priest just made a fruedian slip and I would advise Bibi to put every request for Israeli citizen shrinkage under a magnifying glass. I would trace each such request quietly back to it's source and catch them with their hands in the cookie jar.

In order to seek that reward you must adhere to the God of the Hebrews who is Ahayah and his son Yashayah who is Christ not JESUS. You are praying to Lucifier when you say Jesus. Only to inform you not to insult you. The Devil works on many levels to make Christians believe they are serving the Most High when they are actually serving Lucifier or Yahweh or Yahwahah or Jehovah or Elohim or Jahbulon or Yahbulon or YHWH or YHVH. In order to seek the kingdom you must adhere to all the laws. NO Pork no Shrimp, not to shave your beard or the corners of your hair. Before the kingdom if you die before Christ comes to Earth, you will in the Bossum of Abraham not heaven. That will come when Christ comes to earth. Hope I helped you. May the most high protect you.

..and if one remote thing is even said about Mohamed, "the infidel who said it must be killed." This is the difference between religion and "license for violence" which some believe religion allows. It's not a matter of what religion forgives or condemns... it's a matter of human decency and extreme Islam has no place for it with it's treatment of women and anyone who doesn't see things like them.

you are correct about the barbarianism in some religions. But America is no exception. This nation treats women like trash. Pay them less, exploit them, abandon them, call them names, rape them, treat them as sex objects. We rear mistreating our women. America is a standard of how to abuse and violate women. Muslims treat their women wrong, Jewish treat their women wrong, Christians treat their women wrong. Until we get our issues solved, lets not cast stones on other cultures.

If you fail to know Jesus as your LORD, than you will know Jesus as your JUDGE.

Here we are in the 21st century and man's ignorance still abounds. There has never been one fact to prove the theories of evolution. One species can not be mated to another species, thou there may be a effort to do so there will be no off spring.... I often wonder after meeting so many idiots out and about... But then I remember -

Genesis 1:14-18 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.

Sadly, man's so called wisdom in thinking he knows everything that there is to be known is all but an illusion to him. Wisdom is gained from what man has experienced in life and true wisdom comes from God. There is nothing in this life that man can say for a certainty, unless he has seen, or experienced directly or indirectly that which pertains to his statements, beliefs, or faith.

In other words, for man to say, "I know God does not exist," just because he personally has not experienced a life changing event is nothing less than pure stupidity.
Please tell me if you can, why should God reveal himself to someone that does not seek Him, or to someone that is not serious in wanting to know him in a personal way, much less to someone that does not believe in Him? God has chosen to hide Himself, but to those who fear Him, He will reveal His heart's desires. In Psalms 91:1 He refers to His place of hiding as the secret place. Only those who fear God will find this secret place, as we are told: The LORD confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them. Psalm 25:14 NIV
One revelation from God is worth far more than the knowledge gained from all the books in the world written by men who have no understanding or comprehension of the absolute truth of God's WORD.

Pretty sad, because without the Christian west there would never have been an Israel and it will cease to exist today, it is not just what Christian do directly to support Israel but indirectly by not giving viable military knowledge to the Arabs and to a broader degree the Muslims, if they had it, like they want it, Israel would be gone.

In addition, many Jews CHOOSE to live in Christian countries--- so this is all very odd-- then if there is burning of synangogues or other violence in Europe or the Americas, their will be a look of innocence by the Jewish community and if we are not aware of why anyone would hate jews.

Wow. There's as much hatred and ignorance on display in these comments as there is on the entrance of that monastery. Just a couple of things one can't let pass by. First of all, Palestinians are not all Muslim. A significant portion of them are Christian, as they have been for the last 2000 years. It is entirely possible that the monks in this monastery are Palestinian, and that some West Bank settlers are spewing venom at them for that reason. (Though of course we don't know that for sure yet)

Second of all, denying the existence of historical figures just because you personally happen not to like them is neither an intelligent nor disciplined method of argumentation. Challenge the teachings of Christ and make an argument against loving your neighbor as yourself, doing unto others as you would have them do unto you, healing the sick, giving to the poor, and laying up treasure in heaven rather than on earth. People can and have challenged these tenets of Chrisitanity. But to wave it all off with, "Jesus never existed" simply makes you appear either too lazy or too afraid to engage in serious debate.

Graffiti in hebrew on a church, LOL talk about the tables being turned. (History repeats) The religious extreme need to search their soul as it is misguided.

My guess would be a teenage thing like we have right here in the U.S. I don't think any other religious person/s would do this because of the significanse of Jesus in their religions. They will probably never catch them as they can't here in the U.S. Its a crime of meaness and immaturity.

Did someone actually say that Jews consider Jesus to be a prophet? Where did you hear that?
