Subscribe to RSSMEXICO CITY - Mexican police have detained a man accused of fatally shooting a U.S. Border Patrol agent almost two years ago in Arizona in a botched U.S. operation to track guns smuggled across the border, the government said Friday.
Federal police detained Jesus Leonel Sanchez Meza on Thursday in Sonora state, which borders Arizona, where agent Brian Terry was shot dead in December 2010, the Public Security Ministry said. The Mexican Attorney General's Office plans to extradite Sanchez Meza to the United States, the ministry said in a statement.

Two guns found at the scene were traced to a botched U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) sting operation called "Fast and Furious" that allowed weapons to slip across the border. It was not clear, however, if those weapons fired the fatal shots.
Four others have been accused in the shooting, the ministry said. One is on trial and three others remain fugitives, according to The Associated Press.
Republicans have criticized U.S. President Barack Obama's administration for allowing the Fast and Furious program, which led to some calls for Attorney General Eric Holder to resign.
In Fast and Furious federal agents allowed so-called "straw" buyers to purchase weapons at gun shops. The goal was to track the guns to major weapons traffickers and drug cartel leaders in order to arrest and prosecute them.
In June, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives found Holder, the nation's top law enforcement official, in contempt for withholding documents related to the failed gun-running probe.

Early this year Terry's family filed a $25 million wrongful-death claim against the U.S. government, saying he was killed because federal investigators allowed guns to fall into the hands of violent criminals.
The FBI has offered $250,000 for information leading to the capture of Terry's killer.

What a genius of an idea! The violence and death, as you say, is caused because criminals are trying to avoid the consequences of their crime. The answer, therefore,by your logic is to decriminalize the act!
I have a GREAT idea, I believe that we might even be able to balance the budget with this one! Let's just legalize EVERYTHING! Just think of it No more Police payroll, no more expense of paying Prison Salaries, no more Feeding, clothing, and medical cost for prisoners, no more upkeep of prisons. No more Courthouses to maintain, No more judges to pay! DUH, how would that be?

Holder is a total embarrassment as Attorney General. He should have been removed from office a long time ago. If an Attorney General in a Republican administration had pulled even half of the boneheaded moves Holder has, the Democrats would be screaming their head off for his removal. Holder has spent more time and resources trying to prevent the states from enforcing duly passed federal statutes then he has actually going after real criminals. Holder is Obama's puppet and has repeatedly ignored federal law and his oath of office to help Obama implement his agenda which is in violation of federal laws that were passed by the Congress and signed into law by previous presidents. Holder only enforces the laws that Obama tells him he should enforce and willfully fails to enforce others. He has allowed the administration to completely bypass the separation of powers and legislate by executive order with those executive orders effectively cancelling laws that are currently valid and on the books and that Holder has sworn a duty to uphold. Holder has even gone so far as to threaten any federal law enforcement officer who attempts to carry out his sworn duty and enforce these laws with disciplinary action up to and including being fired. Holder is a disgrace to this nation.
Decriminalizing drug usage and the sales of illegal drugs is not the answer to this ongoing problem but Dirty Rat is on the right path when he says to legalize drugs then sell them through liquor stores or even pharmacies. As a people we have to realize that there are users of these drugs, many more then most people realize and making it a crime didn't slow it's sale use at all, it merely sent it underground where ruthless manufacturers have been using fillers in many of the drugs and becoming billionaires in the process. The governments prohibition on alcohol in the 20's and 30's only showed the rise of organized crime, the death of many people who were drinking "Bathtub" gin which was loaded with turpentine and other poisons which caused death to many drinkers. When prohibition ended, the government taxed and controlled the distribution of liquor and the taxes levied on liquor helped bring America out of the Great Depression and now we are in a similar situation financially in America and the sales and use of drugs, especially marijuana could also help in lowering our federal deficit. The police could be used to battle violent crimes instead of sitting three hours doing paperwork for busting someone in posession of a small bag of heroin or any other drug, the prisons would have more room to hold violent criminals, the courts will not be so back logged since drug cases are the most time consuming of all crimes, the police could make traffic stops and if a driver is found to be high on drugs he/she could be arrested for DUI which would keep drug users from being behind the wheel. We have the technology for police to check drivers for being high on alcohol and drugs so why not use it and be more strict on DUI's of any sort and not just drunk drivers, and if a drug user wants to put drugs into their bodies they are already doing it, but at legalizing drugs will insure that the drugs are manufactured in a clean and efficient way and the money will dry up along with the drug cartels if drugs are sold, distributed and taxed properly.
Just to note, I am not a drug user, I am a conservative voter and a retired prison sergeant who transferred to the police department for a total of 25 years and one more benefit would be it would take the bad apples in law enforcement from adding to their bank accounts and that includes police and the courts.
Once American's realize that the largest anti drug group is the American Bar Association, they will realize that they don't want the lawyers and judges to lose money representing and judging drug dealers and users and when lawyers and them making money is involved, then you have an illegal cartel.
It's hilarious to hear people who want us to believe they're intelligent argue for prohibition of any substance that in and of itself poses no real harm to society like cannabis. And it's a given that many of them use a far more dangerous drug than many illegal ones in bars every night, day etc. Yet more of the same, my rights, my money, my drug, etc etc, but not yours. If they know what's in the plant that's doing some good for people why not extract it and put it in a pill or liquid. First, your blanket statement about "druggies" stealing and mugging basically reveals to me you are not grounded in reality. Yes, some addicts will resort to criminal activity to support their habit. But, that is not the reality with every addict or drug user. Just so you understand, not everyone who uses drugs is an addict. Secondly, your last statement, again, is not the reality of the world. MANY drug users work, have families, pay taxes, and are contributors to society. Of course, there are those drug users or addicts that don't work and are a leech to society. My point is, you can't stereotype drug users and people with addiction problems. These people come from all walks of life and are a very diverse group. Try getting out from in front of the TV and get out of your house and experience the real world and your eyes will be opened.

Fast and Furious is an attempted to try to patch up the problem that has been for years. Millions of gun walking each year and I don't see anyone having problem with it.

Fast And Furious was an attempt to abolish the 2nd amendment of our great Constitution and it may have succeeded if Officer Brian Terry was not murdered with guns that were provided by our own DOJ, so bide your time before giving your opinion as to why Fast And Furious happened since the Bush administration tried something similar but had the sense of hiding GPS systems in the firearms so they could be tracked, but this administration tried to abolish the 2nd amendment through a back door maneuver and now Officer Terry's family as well as the good citizens of America want answers which are being denied by the Attorney General Eric Holder at many Congressional Hearings but keeps perjuring himself when it comes to dates of his knowedge of Fast And Furious and has his friend Obama who appointed him AG illegally using Executive Privilege to protect him from going to federal prison.

There is nothing about your conspiracy of abolish the 2nd amendment, there is however a better control to assault weapon. The 2nd amendment said about "control" as well in case you failed. In TX, AZ, WIS and CA, anybody can get to gun stores and order massive amount of weapon. However, it is up to the store owner to bring this up to authority and that is the main problem here.
Since I know about government control much much better than you do, you know which party is closer to that? Republican. They said less government, but everything they do require more government control and less freedom. As an independent, yes hard for you to believe, but from the perspective of one, Republican is much closer to Muslim than anything.
You said Muslim is extreme, but when you have a party who can't be reason or argue with logic, but solely rely on a 2000 years old book written in Middle East and shares half of it with Koran, then you have more problem than you can chew on. South Philly is wrong about the 2nd amendment. That amendment does NOT say private citizens can own any gun they want. It clearly states that if your in a "well regulated militia" you must have a weapon. Our founders did not want a standing Army, standing Armies are used to invade other countries. They are also expensive to maintain, so in an attempt to keep taxes low, they DID NOT WANT TO PAY FOR A STANDING ARMY.
A well regulated militia was, at the time, like a states national guard or reserve. Think Switzerland, you train to be in the Army, then take your rifle home and only bring it out when called up by your country.
Imagine the crap we could stay out of if we didn't have military bases all over the planet, in other peoples back yards. Think of the money we'd save!
Think of lives we'd save if every bat @!$%# crazy conservatard couldn't go on a shooting spree because our country is moving to far into the future for their small minds to comprehend.

They further decreed that it would be necessary for those colonialists to pay dearly for that continued good grace. Without adequate clothing, food or weaponry they fought on even as many died. Despite unimaginable hardships these ordinary citizens struggled on and with inspired leadership they ultimately defeated the British Empire. Together they established a country that despite President Obama’s apologies to the contrary, is the greatest country in history.

Sorry, you have the political party misstated - It was Saul Alinsky with his Sociological Philosophy and Book titled Rules for Radicals that states "If you cannot attack the Message, then attack the Messenger". Perhaps you read that book and are trying "point counterpoint"? Charles This last summer the BATF sent out a Demand Letter requiring gun stores in Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and California to report and restrict multiple gun sales in their states to the BATF. This letter was a direct result of the "flood" of guns entering Mexico. The Demand Letter and regulations were in the works as far back as 2009 long before F&F and the Brian Terry tragedy. Both H. Clinton and President Obama used those exact words " a flood of guns" in speaches in early 2009.
