I think the cows are darling with there flower decor!
Arnie was seen in the background wearing only lederhosen but shining with babyoil
Look at the picture of the young woman. I don't think girl shepards traditionally wore cute little shorts!!
I love Bavaria and their cows.
Homesick Yank...That's exactly what they wore, the men too. Lederhosen WAS the traditional wear for physical work.
That's sorta the point of the story.
Lederhosen is customary dress for all mountain folk in Germanic countries from Southern Germany to Switzerand. It is functional as opposed to aesthetic in purpose. Their environment requires them to be natural mountain climbers and repellers. Leather pants are ideal for using the Swiss seat and other rope climbing techniques that are vital for surviving and operating in high mountains. Try repelling with wool or denim pants and see how long your clothes will last!
Actually, only men wore lederhosen or longer buderhosen, women wore dirndls.
Spent a year in Bavaria in the early "50's". Love it and the people. Wish I could have stayed.
Exactly. I lived in Germany for a couple of decades and still have a lot of family there. The girl's dress is cute but anything but traditional. Yes, the women would have worn dirndls. And in olden times with real sleeves (not open at the shoulders). The Almabtrieb is a lovely tradition and the beer or schnapps after not shabby either.
I like the cattle - such cute faces. It's always nice to see traditions kept - clothing, the cowbells, the decorated animals.
Something good in the news for a change.
I gfrei mi drauf!
