Personally, I have a very difficult time viewing Islam as a religion. When you look at the history of the religion and it's roots you have to conclude that it is a very violent religion with zero tolerance for anyone who disagrees with it. You know how it got that way right? Well sit down and I will tell you a story; the Islamic fundamentalists were a fringe group at one time; like any other. Held mainly religious posts; not even the Caliphs were particularly religious - more political leaders than anything. The Islamic world was flourishing. Arts, medicine, astronomy, algebra... all whilst Christian Europe was in the throes of what we might consider the equivalent of the Middle East today, book burning, witch burning, home burning... just about burning anything, as well as plague.

But then came the fall of Byzantium, creating a power vacuum in the Christian world. Italy, as a center of power grew - sea trade picked up and overshadowed the silk road in market dominance. The Islamic world at that time very much depended upon the silk road. Wars ensued as is natural whenever there is money and a power vacuum. Christian Europeans returned from their wars in the east with many of the ancient texts and documents preserved by the Muslims - Plato, Aristotle, Medical texts, etc. Then came the Reneasseance, followed by the diminishing influence of the plague and ever increasing importance of sea trade : leading to what one might call a 'golden age'.....

meanwhile, the Islamic world was in steep decline due to the loss of their economic backbone. And you know what happened? The fringe fundamentalists began blaming what they perceived as the iniquities within the Islamic world. Art, science, literature, astronomy, medicine.... all were demonized as frivilous and even unholy practices. The destitute people liked having scapegoats other than the insurmountable economic reality of world-trade and diminished influence. Fundamentalism took root, leading to further isolation, and less progress in the things that would have possibly saved them from being overshadowed by Europe. But no, they went with the idea that so long as they made everything 'about Allah' that they would be fine.... that Allah was upset with people studying the starts and inventing new technologies; that such things were not the Will of God....

It was the religious fundamentalism that religious leaders used to manipulate the people and secure power during hard times that resulted in the shape of Islam we see today. It's perfectly capable of its own Reneaissance, Enlightenment, and ultimately the sexual/racial revolutions that come with classical liberal ideals. But pushing them to do so, or supporting dictators which just put a 'cap' on it for awhile is not the way. They need to do it much like we did here in the US, have their own Revolution based upon the ideals of religious freedom, secularism, and liberty. There are definitely significant elements in Egypt and Libya which support those ideals; but unfortunately it's the fundamentalists who have the guns and the majority it seems.

First, I don't defend what the jackass film maker did. But there can be NO justification for storming an embassy, no matter how pissed off you are. You want to protest ... fine, protest. But when you storm an embassy that is, by international agreement and has been for hundreds of years, YOU have crossed the line. Meanwhile we have give billions to Egypt and Libya that stand by and allow our flag to be burned and our embassy destroyed. If this happened to the property of Iran they would consider that an act of war.

Obama has made our country weak again just like Carter did. History is repeating itself. If you look at polling in the Muslim world the US is still hated. We have fought wars for them, given them billions, and liberated them, and they still hate us.

Time to cut off aid, and come home and regroup and leave them to fight amongst themselves.

What a joke... It is a crying shame when you see vastly uneducated people react to a video that speaks an abundance of truth about their religeous "general". Um yeah... Muhamed was a General and murderer and all of those things the video claims. In his time he and his followers were expanding an empire based on the conversion of people to islam, the head and "prophet" of which just so happened to be Muhamed, which can bacically be equated to the same thing as egyptian pharohs and the like claiming deity and forcing their "subjects" to worship them. What happens during ancient wars? People are killed, women are raped, and settlements are destroyed or converted. In their book alone it describes many campaigns in which "infidels" are murdered, it describes wars fought, it descibes many of the things muslims are insulted about hearing now or seeing in hi-def with dolby digital surround. Sure Muhammed also did some good things and probably had good intentions of unifying the world, but so did Hitler, Stalin, Napolean, King Richard "the crusader", and many other leaders throughout history.

To all these muslim people, we don't hate you, we respect you and you aren't being singled out any more than if any other religeon or political establishment were to show such violence. Were any of you to publically rally to show that you don't support things like this, that you denounce and excommunicate all the extremist activities, we would not be so inflamed against you. The parallel can be drawn to Christian extremist and hate groups. These groups have been disassociated with, taken contol of, and persecuted by fellow christians to the point of obscurity and will continue to be because of the violence and hate they employ in their beliefs. I have never heard of one story or instance where this has happened within the muslim faith. The reason no one believes islam is a religeon of peace is because they let such violence as this be promoted alongside their message.

These folks in Libya and Egypt attacked people who had no connection to the video that so outraged them. The people they attacked most likely didn't share any of the views expressed in the video. Explain why this is a valid reaction to a video made thousands of miles away and posted on a video sharing site that the average person in Libya or Egypt didn't even have access to because of internet filters blocking them or lack of a device to connect to the internet. Explain how this shows that Islam is "the religeon of peace" when its followers react to their "prophet" being painted in a light they don't like remembering by killing innocent people. Looks more like they are simply following in the footsteps of their "general" then practicing any real religeous belief. How I ask is what we keep seeing from this faith in any way peaceful? How does this show love? Before the reaction from a follower comes let me remind you that this in no way exemplifies all followers and some are very peaceful and promote happiness and wholeness for all... it's just that damn majority that keeps holding you all back.

This was a lynch mob who were motivated by Imams to violence. They are the ones we need to target. The governments are ultimately responsible to protect our embassy,and the people involved with it, as it was empty when it was attacked. I would simply call them murderers.

If these attacks were a reaction, how about holding the attackers responsible for the murders and attacks? This artice is set up to politically divide this nation and cause strife on US soil. I just went to the website of the Libyan embassy in Washington, D.C. and there is not one word, no mention, no apology, no condemnation, no sympathy about the killing of U.S. diplomatic personnel in Benghazi. Making a movie, writing a book, painting a picture, etc, should never, ever, ever result in a violent response. For better or worse, we live in a country where one can express one's views about religion, politics, pretty much everything under the sun.

OK, know what? Fine. You view Islam as a cancer, or whatever. Great. You live in a country that gives you the freedom to think and speak as you choose on the subject.
