Libya arrests four suspected in deadly US Consulate attack in Benghazi

Libyan authorities have made four arrests in the investigation into the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi in which the U.S. ambassador and three embassy staff were killed, the deputy interior minister said on Thursday.

"Four men are in custody and we are interrogating them because they are suspected of helping instigate the events at the U.S. Consulate," Wanis Sharif told Reuters.

He gave no more details.

The United States and Libya has agreed to cooperate to find out who was responsible for the deadly attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi in which the ambassador to the North African state and three other Americans died.

President Barack Obama and Libyan President Mohamed Magarief spoke on Wednesday evening and decided "to work closely over the course of this investigation," the White House said in a statement.


TODAY's Matt Lauer speaks with security analyst Michael Leiter about the likelihood that the attack on a U.S. consulate in Libya was a pre-meditated act by a group of al-Qaida sympathizers rather than a spontaneous uprising over an anti-Muslim Internet video.

Magarief "expressed appreciation for the cooperation we have received from the Libyan government and people in responding to this outrageous attack, and said that the Libyan government must continue to work with us to assure the security of our personnel going forward," the White House statement said.

"The President made it clear that we must work together to do whatever is necessary to identify the perpetrators of this attack and bring them to justice," it added.

In Yemen, protesters breach the of the U.S. Embassy compound in the capital, Sanaa, as a wave of anti-American demonstrations sweeps across several Middle East nations. NBC's Richard Engel reports from Cairo.

U.S. and Libyan officials, independent analysts and postings on Islamist websites from known militant activists suggested that the attack — which officials had previously suggested was retaliation for release of a movie critical of the Muslim Prophet Muhammad — may have been a pre-planned, orchestrated assault.

Ambassador Christopher Stevens, Sean Smith — a Foreign Service information management officer — and two other Americans, who have not yet been formally identified, were killed.

Destroyers sent to Libya coast
A U.S. official told Reuters that the U.S. military was moving two destroyers toward the Libyan coast, giving the Obama administration flexibility for any future action against Libyan targets.

The military is also dispatching a Marine Corps anti-terrorist security team to boost security in Libya, and Washington has ordered the evacuation of all U.S. personnel from Benghazi to Tripoli.

An unnamed senior U.S. official told the AFP news agency that U.S. officials suspected the attack on the consulate was a well-planned assault by militants rather than a rampaging mob.

NBC's Richard Engel and Ambassador Marc Ginsberg discuss the latest in Libya and Egypt as protest continue outside the U.S. Embassy in Cairo.

"That's the working hypothesis at the moment," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

"This was a complex attack," he added. "They seemed to have used this (protest) as an opportunity."

Among the assailants, Libyans identified units of a heavily armed local Islamist group, Ansar al-Sharia, which sympathizes with al-Qaida and derides Libya's U.S.-backed bid for democracy.

Reuters cited U.S. officials as saying that there were reports from the region suggesting that members of al-Qaida's north Africa-based affiliate, known as Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb, may have been involved.

The attack on the Libyan consulate, as it happened

On Wednesday, Obama vowed to catch those responsible for the attack and said he had ordered an increase in security at U.S. diplomatic posts around the globe following the assault.

"The United States condemns in the strongest terms this outrageous and shocking attack," Obama said, while insisting it would not threaten relations with Libya's new government. ... And make no mistake, we will work with the Libyan government to bring to justice the killers who attacked our people."

The U.S. Ambassador to Libya and three other Americans were killed after protesters angry over a film that ridiculed Islam's Prophet Muhammad stormed the U.S. consulate in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi, as protests spread across the region.

Doctor tried to save ambassador's life
Ziad Abu Zaid, the duty doctor in the emergency room at Benghazi Medical Center on Tuesday, said Stevens was alive when he arrived at the hospital.

"He came in a state of cardiac arrest. I performed CPR for 45 minutes, but he died of asphyxiation due to smoke inhalation,” he said.

Stevens' body was later returned to U.S. custody at Benghazi airport, a senior U.S. official said. Images of Stevens, purportedly taken after he died, circulated on the Internet. One showed him being carried, with a white shirt pulled up and a cut on his forehead.

Smith died inside the consulate building and the two other Americans died when a squad of U.S. troops sent by helicopter from Tripoli to rescue the diplomats came under mortar attack, said Captain Fathi al-Obeidi, commander of a Libyan special operations unit ordered to meet the Americans.

Obama: Egypt not an ally of US, but not an enemy

Witnesses said the mob at the consulate included tribesmen, militia and other gunmen. Hamam, a 17-year-old who took part in the attack, said Ansar al-Sharia cars arrived at the start of the protest but left once fighting started.

"The protesters were running around the compound just looking for Americans, they just wanted to find an American so they could catch one," he told Reuters. "We started shooting at them, and then some other people also threw hand-made bombs over the fences and started the fires in the buildings."

"There was some Libyan security for the embassy outside but when the hand-made bombs went off they ran off and left," he added.

Hamam said he saw an American die in front of him in the mayhem that ensued. He said the body was covered in ash.

Anyone believing this might as well subscribe for life to the New York Times. This government knew that this would happen. Even the loudmouths on talk radio knew this as they have been pushing it in Obama's face for several months now. No doubt we can count on Libya to help, yeah right. Libya just wants to keep those US tax dollars flowing, and they will do or say anything to ensure it. Sure they may come up with a sacrificial lamb or two, but this country just like Egypt is no longer a friend or ally of the US. Islamic extremism is over taking the middle east, and the US will continue to fund their efforts to destroy the west. Obama let Islamic extremism take over in Egypt and Libya, and with his endless bragging about killing Bin Laden and drone strikes in Pakistan, the fuse has been lit.

....both reliable conventional-wisdom-peddlers and even some right-wing analysts said that Romney had made a serious mistake by distorting the timeline of the Egyptian embassy's response to the protests, and by making such a harsh political attack on the White House.

As Wednesday wore on, pundits continued reacting with astonishment at Romney's response. Speaking to Rachel Maddow, NBC's Andrea Mitchell said that "It was one of those moments where the character and the policy were both revealed." She speculated that Romney may have been looking to satisfy some of the conservative commentators who have been openly attacking his campaign strategy.

"I think they were looking for an opportunity," she said. "...This is a serious business. This is not the stuff of combative political press releases. I can't recall, Rachel, and I don't think you can, another time when the United States was under fire, literally, where a presidential candidate in either party put out a press release.

Peggy Noonan, who made waves with her criticism of Romney on Fox News, had an even more withering assessment for her own Wall Street Journal.

"Romney looked weak today," she said. "At one point, he had a certain slight grimace on his face when he was taking tough questions from the reporters, and I thought, 'He looks like Richard Nixon.'"

On Thursday morning, Joe Scarborough said he had been "absolutely flabbergasted" by Romney's response.

Even Bill O'Reilly called Romney out, though very briefly. Playing footage of Romney criticizing the Egyptian embassy for issuing a statement that was "akin to apology."

"I'm not sure the Governor is correct on that," O'Reilly said. "The embassy was trying to head off the violence. Being conciliatory in that kind of a situation seems logical."

Newspaper editorial boards across the country blasted Romney's response as well. The Washington Post called it "a discredit to his campaign" and the Los Angeles Times said it was an "outrageous exercise in opportunism." The Boston Globe labeled it "offensive on many other levels" beyond the timing of his remarks.

The fact-checking brigades also had their knives out for Romney. The Associated Press, for instance, said he had "seriously mischaracterized what had happened in a statement accusing President Barack Obama of "disgraceful" handling of violence there and at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo."

Notice that the Libyan supporters holding that sign are WOMEN? And that the pictures of the angry mobs and consulate attackers are of all men? Islam could be a more peaceful religion if there was equality for women and more of them in leadership positions. But then again, most all world religions repress women. The people who attacked the American embassy and killed our people DO NOT represent Libya anymore than the Israeli filmmaker represents the U.S.! Lets just start off by stating that BOTH POLITICAL PARTIES suck. Anyone who believes that their "party" is looking out for their followers' best interest is naïve. They are looking out for themselves and their friends only. They could not care less about you. Why are we even in the Middle East? Oil, of course. Why else, because we're the good guys in the white hats? Please.... If they were not sitting on the majority of the worlds oil supply, the USA wouldn't give a rats a$$ what happened over there. Cut off all aid, and you probably cut off the oil supply. Now gas in the US goes from $4 per gallon to $10 or more per. How's that sound? In the current economy, how will you afford it? The oil companies have us all by the 'nads (sorry ladies). We have been dealing with "oil embargo's" and "gas shortages" since the mid '70's. Why have we not developed alternative fuels to power our country? Whay hasn't solar power been at the top of the development list? Because the big oil companies can not control the sun. There is no way to for them to claim it as they do land mass. It's not the middle east terrorists we have to worry about, it's the Washington terrorists (aka: politicians/senators/reps) that will be the downfall of the USA. Greed will get you every time.

I watched Sen. McCain ranting and raving on TV this morning about how the Administration is weak and we should go into Syria and Iran and deal with them, and it occurred to me that we Americans dodged a bullet for sure in 2008 when we didn't elect him president. By this time, he would have gotten us involved in so many conflicts the military would have had to reinstitute the draft, and the country would be completely bankrupt.

We've arrested active duty military planning an attack on our own country. I think the President is handling the International scene as good as any one could over the last 4 years. He promised on the campaign trail to meet a mutually agreed upon date for withdrawal of troops from Iraq. That date was set between the new government of Iraq and former President Bush. Now, the GOP is whining about the doings of Libya. President Obama aided in riding the world of Ghadaffi and ordered the kill on Bin Laden and plenty of AQ officers.

I listened to Senator McCain ranting on today about the need for OUR military intervention in Syria. How damned long is our reach supposed to be? I would close all the embassies in the parts of the world that are not our allies, while continuing to reach out to them through diplomacy. The easy thing is to drop bombs. The right thing is to reason and listen--work through it.

Since we have reports that Israeli Intelligence notified the Obama Administration of planned attacks on our embassies to coincide with the 9/11 anniversary, why did the Administration not take actions to bolster the security at those embassies - including requesting local government support?

It appears that the 'Arab Spring' that Obama supported is turning into an anti-American Fall.

He helps one of the most dreaded organizations the Muslim brotherhood ascend to power and helps spread their cancer but in a "Night of Long Knives" Nazi twist he kills some dreaded terrorists like in Bin Laden. (O boy he gets to play hero o goody.) Similar to Hitler killing the brown shirts in saving the german people. We should not be involved in any Mid east country except helping Israel. The Mid east need strong men dictators to control their crazy religious nuts. Those countries were relatively peaceful and people of all religions were pretty much left alone. So what if some religious crazy muslims were rounded up by Mubarek or Hussein and thrown in wood chippers they did the world some good. I say good. Now only Islam is accepted and people of other religions in those countries are being hunted and killed. Did we not learn from Iraq a needless war. (Though it did attract stupid muslims that wanted to fight americans from all over the world so we could dispose of them.) Iraq is still riddled with senseless religious killings. That part of the world and most of Africa are basically incapable of running a society. They need the dictator to keep the really crazy religious nuts from running wild.

I can see going to war if some country or fanatical group supported by any country should attack and kill our people. Afganistan was the right move but I feel Iraq was the wrong move by our country considering there were no weapons of mass destruction found. I personally thing Iraq was Baby Bush seeking revenge for Saddam's planned assassination on Daddy Bush. Yes, I'm a Conservative but that was the wrong move and should have never happened.

        Just stop supporting these people with no right to live on this planet because of these atrocities they commit. Then watch their countries fall into caos! Leave them to kill each other over tribal crap.

          Their is the third person plural possessive adjective, used to describe something as belong to them. Their is nearly always followed by a noun.

          Where is their car?

          This is their room and this is ours.

          Their being here is causing some problems.

          There has several different uses.

          1. Adverb that means the opposite of "here"

          He's over there.

          Stop right there.

          2. Pronoun that introduces a noun or clause.

          There is something strange going on.

          Is there a phone?

          3. Adjective that emphasizes which person.

          That guy there seems to be in trouble.

          Those there look good.

          4. Noun that means "that place."

            Did you understand what was meant? If so, the purpose of the sentence was accomplished. Ultimately language is for the conveyance of information. Even if it is not correct grammar everyone understands what is meant.

            For the grammar elitists I have some very bad news for you. While we lobbed hundreds of million dollar warheads at this country to "help", we can't be bothered to pay our teachers a decent wage. Each one of those warheads would have paid for most of a teachers career. Compounding the problem, a former president's no child left behind program has lowered the standard for everyone to the lowest abilities of anyone. This makes so very much more sense then striving to bring everyone to THEY'RE individual maximum potential. (did I make you twitch?) It is likely you will not get much reprieve on grammar. On the bright side you will get to hold your noses high in the air for at least another generation.

            I didn't see anything wrong with her sign either other than perhaps like already mentioned the "r" was squeezed in but otherwise it was fine . I think the common people in these third world countries are beginning to find their voice , it will likely be years before they really find their voices and speaking out loudly enough to make a real difference but it's a start .

            As for the difference between their,they're,there (and a lesser extent no and know among others) I have to say that it does bug me so many people seem to not know the difference , although I rarely comment on such things . Normally I just take the meaning I think they were trying to get across and move on , but it does annoy after seeing it thousands of times in the last few months .

            Tony.....YOU are the only one here that seems to be educated enough (plus a few others) to understand that it is not Muslim that causes this hatred for America. The first thing one should do is read the Quran. No I haven't except for some excerpts. But I believe that you will find that Islam is a peaceful religion. How can you judge the belief if you know nothing about it. Second, learn about the cultural values of Muslims. They are by in large an-alphabets and the teachings are passed down. The majority has never read the Quran. And therein lies the problem. Interpretation is the key. Things are passed on to every generation in the way those doing the passing on see fit. No one asks if it is the truth. The West cannot change century old customs nor the religion. In my humble opinion, every religion seeks to use the weak minded to empower themselves. Look at the number of christian factions in the US. And each one thinks they alone hold the key to heaven. Some take the Bible literally, play with snakes, speak in tongues, drink Strichnine, wear holy underwear, use holy water and....and...and...Jews have their own traditions and belief, don't mix dishes that had dairy on it, don't eat hoofed animals. Don't want to write a book. Americans as a whole are so wrapped up with them selves thinking that they are the only true believers and are superior to any one else in the world needs to learn that this kind of thinking will continue to keep us in wars. We are quick to condem everyone for the actions of a few. We don't bother to learn about other customs or religions because no one else counts. We think we can bomb ourselves into rightgeousness. Look what is happening in our country. A President is shred to pieces and blames for EVERYTHING that happens in the WORLD because he is African-American. That is so sad.               It amazes me that everyone is so critical over grammar. You learn this in elementary school. You know what else you learned in elementary school? Geography! You know geography?               We are glad Bin Laden is gone. But, when you keep repeating, "Obama/we killed Bin Laden" every chance you get, looks like you are throwing it in the terrorists faces. You got Obama and Crazy Joe repeating this on the campaign trail, Joe shouting at the DNC like a madman. The whole world sees this and you wonder why we are hated? Now you have books being published on this basking in the glory. I guess when you have no record to run on and killing bin laden is your only accomplishment, you really don't think about the consequences. Now we are seeing the consequences of gloating!

Fundamentalist Islam is NOT pick and choose nor it is a matter of tolerance. The No tolerance Policy is reflected in the Fundamentalist Isalmic Required Actions of the 109 Suras of the 114 Suras of the Holy Koran (Quran) that Calls All Islamic Believers to War Against the Christians, Jews, Unbelievers, those Islamic Believers that do not participate are subject to the Death Penalty and to "dwell in that firey place". To Fund the War Against the Christians, Jews, Unbelievers are the required by Islamic Laws, Mandatory Islamic Tithes (currently Trillions USDs per year).

                Islam has two main categories and all other subcategories fit into either Fundamentalist Islamic Shia or Moderate Liberal Sunnis Interpretations of the Holy Koran. It has long been the belief by the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia that the Moderate Liberal Sunnis are Islamic Heretics and by current Fundamentalist Islamic Laws that is the Death Penalty.

                The Moderate Liberal Sunnis believe in the Fiqh (Logic) as the Rule of Law and the modern interpretation of the Holy Koran (Quran) as to why they are considered Islamic Heretics by the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia as the reason for the Centuries Old Wars between the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia and the Moderate Liberal Sunnis. Their Islamic Belief is allowing the Modernization of the Islamic World (Death Penalty Heresey to the Fundamentalist Islamic World). One of the Traits of the Moderate Liberal Sunnis is to use Force as a Last Resort (why they are the minority). And usually will negotiate for someone else to do their Fighting.

                From Experience at many Nations the Actions of the Fundamentalist Islamic Believers (Muslims) is to "Shoot First As the Dead Do Not Complain", and this works. Previous examples would be the Moderate Liberal Sunnis attempting to negotiate ("Empty Words") then the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia shoots the Moderate Liberal Sunnis in the face, end of negotiations; the Sunnis became the minority while the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia became the Majority.

                The Fundamentalist Islamic Shia have used the excuse before like when I was a UN/UA (African Union) Observer, "You made me kill them (innocent men, women, children) because you are here.........It's your fault".

                Fundamentalist Islamic Laws require any Islamic Believer to provide Fundamentalist Islamic Sanctuary to any Islamic Believer, especially the "Warriors of Islam" aka Islamic Jihadists. If you have no idea what this means, the Host of Fundamentalist Islamic Sanctuary provides everything to the guest, even before themselves or their family. In current situations this would also be providing their children as look outs, same with their women, food, clothing, funds, protection, etc. even if the host must die doing so.

                Pertaining to the 1.8 Million Islamic Believers at the US, they do NOT make the Rules or determine what Islam is for the Majority of Islamic Worldwide of 1.5 Billion Islamic Believers (mostly Fundamentalist Islamic Believers).

                Most that do not know Islam from experience attempt to marginalized their Fundamentalist Islamic Beliefs, by stating that the Majority are a few "Radicals", "Extremists", etc.. And even use the limiting Western term of "Religion" pertaining to Islam.

                In many cases, maybe due to laziness, refuse to use the entire name when discussing those things pertaining to Islam, like saying the Arab League of Nations, instead of what they are as the Fundamentalist Islamic League of Nations, with their Original Charter of the Extermination of the Jews; Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran; Fundamentalist Islamic Hamas; Fundamentalist Islamic Al Quada International Franchise, Fundamentalist Islamic Muslim Brotherhood, etc.

Also learn Farsi, like I did as the First Middle Eastern Language I learned (how I know what the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran is up to). Before being switched from a comfortable desk job to harsh US Military Asymmetric Warfare or resign my commission I was teaching Nuclear (Weapons) Physics, I was also trained classroom and hands on experience in Missiles, Chemical, Biological, etc. that is why I know what the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran is currently doing in those areas (NOT from academic idealistic non participant bullsh!t).

                  When all this started, Gaddafi's son told us we were supporting the wrong side...and we would regret our decision. No surprise there...saw that camel coming right off. I'm more interested in the chain of events now occurring. Protests were scheduled already...again, no surprise. An obscure low budget not ready for prime time video about Mohammad was re-dubbed with inflammatory dialogue and posted on the net, further escalating tensions. Then the embassy was attacked by a heavily armed assault team, complete with artillery support. Now political elements are jockeying for gain out of this, and the ambassador isn't even in the ground yet...interesting. Remember this...just because I'm a conspiracy theorist, doesn't mean there are no conspiracies. When we find who is responsible, regardless of where we find them...we have a few cells in Gitmo for them.

                  John, Gaddafi's son said we would regret our stance in Libya because he was threating us. We stood up for the right side and you want to regard that as a mistake? Have you forgotten what Gaddafi did? The evil that the man perpetrated? Despite what happened, Libya is still an ally and one who will help us find the people who killed our Ambassador. The signs from the people in the street tell it all. They are for us and DO appreciate what we did to liberate them. They are not the ones who broke into the embassy. Many Libyans died that night trying to defend our embassy. It was a planned attack and those who did it will be caught. That is, unless Romney is president, then; as he stated in the search for Bin Laden, "it is just not worth the cost". Romney, tough, just words for the election. NO substance.

                  Unfortunately those that want anything but Obama have such an empty suit running for office they have no choice but to attack the President. This is the same president that took flack when running for the presidency by saying he would go into a foreign nation to catch Osama bin Laden if necessary. This is the same President that did give the order to do exactly that. He is a real man of his words and not one of the chicken hawks like draft dodging Romney. Paris, Oh please.                       This simple truth of how Arab in whole are vilified in both media and movies needs to be told. Just as other ethnic groups before, their voices need to be heard so that hate crimes and discrimination can be avoided. The first step is through documentaries such as this one. The narrator, Jack Shaheen has written other great books such as The TV Arab, which in text shows and uncovers a lot of the same criminalization of Arabs through movies and TV series, as well as the mainstream media. The next step is by telling people about these documentaries so that people can become informed about the truth. Jack Shaheen approaches this delicate yet critical topic in the most respectable and professional manner.

                      They used to steal our clothing off of our ships. They used clever long poles like the ones once used to take merchandise from tall shelves. They'd poke these hooked sticks through open portholes. They were good at snagging stuff hung on hangers, laying about, etc. The portholes were invariably open because of the heat. We assumed this meant stealing stuff from our ships was not a crime of the moment but instead a long-term process. Maybe you saw different people than we did.

                      While NAACP President Benjamin Jealous lashed out at new state laws requiring photo ID for voting, an NAACP executive sits in prison, sentenced for carrying out a massive voter fraud scheme.

                      In a story ignored by the national media, in April a Tunica County, Miss., jury convicted NAACP official Lessadolla Sowers on 10 counts of fraudulently casting absentee ballots. Sowers is identified on an NAACP website as a member of the Tunica County NAACP Executive Committee.

                      Sowers received a five-year prison term for each of the 10 counts, but Circuit Court Judge Charles Webster permitted Sowers to serve those terms concurrently, according to the Tunica Times, the only media outlet to cover the sentencing.

                      “This crime cuts against the fabric of our free society,” Judge Webster said.

                      Sowers was found guilty of voting in the names of Carrie Collins, Walter Howard, Sheena Shelton, Alberta Pickett, Draper Cotton and Eddie Davis. She was also convicted of voting in the names of four dead persons: James L. Young, Dora Price, Dorothy Harris, and David Ross.

                      You did forget a few things in your list, one being that Republicans want all elderly and children to starve to death in the streets. Another one that Republicans want the entire U.S. covered in oil and pesticides because they don't care about the environment. Even if conservatives do donate more to charity than liberals, Republicans are still only for the evil, filthy rich.

                        Sharri........why did repubs block the bill to end free ride by companies taking tax breaks to off shore jobs on 7-19-12? Why did repubs block that same bill to give tax breaks to companies that would bring jobs back to America?

                        Why? Because repubs like the taxpayer footing the bill for their profits. Repubs like Romney like those profits and pay going into offshore accounts where they can avoid and Illegally evade paying taxes! Bain is being investigated for financial fandango of paying profits out to investors so it ends up as money to be taxed as lower capital gains tax instead of higher rate of tax! After President Obama and Team America killed Bin Laden, Mitt jumped into his mental wayback machine and said he would have made the same decision as President Obama.......That is the mark of a deranged man detached from the world of reality.                         Well, this filthy liberal wants nothing he didn't work for and honestly earn. I want all taxpayers to pay the same fair rate. If anything, capitol gains taxes should be at a higher rate, because no real work was done to earn that money. Unemployment and Social Security? Not "entitlements", they are "earned benefits" I don't know a single person receiving benefits that wouldn't trade them in a heartbeat for a good paying job. The so-called "job creators" have shot themselves in the foot, and for all their "business acumen" are incredibly short sighted and stupid. Do they not realize they are killing their customers? By driving wages down, they are killing off the very revenue streams they need to prosper.

                        now one thing about that bill that jumps out at me right away is the unfair advantage that bill would give to a company that was already outsourcing vs a company that never outsourced . I would not have voted for such a bill either because I wouldn't want an outsourcing company to gain an unfair advantage over one that never outsourced , or can you wrap your head around that ?

                        Personally I think that bill was made purely for political gain assuming the common person would not actually read the bill and the misleading headlines would carry all the weight needed .

Pena chopped out thousands of jobs and shut down hundreds of factories just like Romney only Vestar doesn't have success stories like Staples Inc which Bain does have. They do have some interesting successes w/Del Monte and Solo Cups but if u think an Obama Admin can bring sustainable jobs back to America that pay a living wage, why is that going to happen in the next 4 years when it hasn't in the past 4?

                              I am neither for you or against you starsailing and I am all for bringing the jobs back to the US but that bill was not the answer , giving a company a tax break for all costs incurred which is very vague on specifics and not giving that advantage also to their competitor who never outsourced is just plain wrong no matter how you try to slice it !

                              I would be all for an import tariff on companies that outsource making it FAR less profitable to do so and a lot more appealing to bring those jobs home . That would be a win/win for the government and the people in the US !

                              I may agree w/some points the Tea Party makes but I disagree w/as many so please don't try to pigeon hole me. For example I'm in favor of extremely high tax rates on income over $250K/yr but with generous deductions against taxable income for any expenses associated with employment (either the earner's or their employees); in other words, I'm OK w/folks making a lot of money operating industry which creates/sustains jobs but I'm opposed to that same income level when earned by living off inherited cash.

                              RE the SOFA, you can say it's not a treaty but it's an agreement committing US military forces to support a foreign government against their enemies which are not necessarily our enemies. According to Article 2 section 2 of the Constitution, the President of the US can enter into these sorts of agreements only with a 2/3 majority of the Senate.                                   The U.S. cannot trust anyone, doing so has proven to be deadly. The U.S. helped liberate a country and if we thought this "bought" allegiance from a country that for the most part despises America then we were dreaming. Obama vowed on Wednesday to bring to justice the killers of the U.S. ambassador and three other diplomats in Libya as he sought to avoid election-year fallout from an attack that cast a spotlight on his administration's handling of "Arab Spring" unrest. I reiterate what has already been said by a few.....let me know how this turns out. I can tell you this, if anything positive comes out of this - Obama will take the credit. If things become worse - Obama will not take any ownership but will defer to others any blame. May those who died RIP and God be with their families.

                                            Ottomans ruled for 600 yrs. How long has America existed? Not 600 yrs.

                                            Kurds have been oppressed but they've been around about as long, maybe longer if you count their ancestors the Medes.

                                            Saddam is dead but who kept Iraq more stable him by himself or us with the whole International Coalition?

                                            And thank you for supporting my point about the Israelis not being able to survive were it not for their extreme military actions supported by the USA.

                                            And by the way, it is the way of OUR world. We have fought a war of some size or type pretty much every 20 years for the last 200. I don't think that qualifies us as peace loving. We are the only nation on earth that has used nuclear weapons on another nation (we're not virgins). According to estimates, we killed over 15 million Native Americans while we were stealing ourselves a home (seemed like the Christian thing to do).

                                            I served in the United States Armed Forces for over 20 years. I served during the Vietnam war, Grenada, Panama, Gulf War, and Bosnia. I am under no illusions as to what we are capable of, nor am I under illusions as to what Muslim religious extremists are capable of.                                                 You are correct about our frequent wars but my point refers to person on person violence, not nation on nation violence. Americans wage war as a nation unified behind our elected government and seeking diplomatic solutions both before and during the conflict. My above comments refer to how the Middle East is still primarily composed of petty war lords and religious leaders who band warrior males together out of fear of other warrior males similar to how street gangs work today in America. But the Crypts and Bloods don't have nuclear weapons like the Shiites are developing in Iran nor do they have the stockpiles of conventional weapons used by the Arab Sunis. It's also rare that the Crypts and Bloods will use military weapons in an organized attack on civilian non-gang members; most of the conflicts the Crypts and Bloods get into is with each other or other gangs invading their turf. However, there are many such gangs in the Middle East who use conventional military weapons on unarmed civilian targets at least once a month in attempts to gain political power.

                                                This is the way of their world. When America does this in war it is generally considered a crime and we investigate it and bring justice upon those responsible like in My Lai and Son My. The only countries in the Middle East that seem to care about this is Israel and to some extent Turkey and Jordan. Until the Middle East has leaders who can police and speak for all their people including these war lords and religious leaders the American system of war and diplomacy is ineffective.

                                                I think they will help us identify and locate the group responsible because it's in their best interest to do so, but I don't understand why we build and staff embassies in countries that don't have the capability to provide necessary security. A detachment of Marines can't be expected to repel hundreds or thousands of well armed attackers.

                                                A detachment of embassy Marines is one hell of a fighting force, who can call in heavy fire support from overhead aircraft and off shore Navy guns. We just needs a Commander in Chief who does his job and allow the troops to respond, and not worry what the rest of the world thinks. An attack on an Embassy (any Embassy) is considered an act of war, and we should take the handcuffs (read approval from POTUS) off of them and let them do their job.

                                                A movie on youtube was just an excuse for violence against America. It was no accident the attacks happened on 911.

                                                The news last night stated there were no Marines at the consulate. Libyan guards were killed as well as Americans.

                                                My question is... It was the anniversary of 911, why wasn't the American consulates under Marine guard to show strength, especially on this day? Those that attacked us just wait for such opportunities. When will we learn? They may have still attacked but I can guarantee our Marines would have at least leveled the playing field. We can show strength without starting a war.

                                                Yes, our ambassador knew he had a dangerous job and may he and the others RIP. But there is no reason our people shouldn't be protected by American soldiers, especially in volatile areas.

                                                The US Embassy in Libya is located in Tripoli. The attack was at a satellite consulate in Benghazi.

                                                Why was the Ambassador in the lightly protected consulate in Benghazi rather than the more heavily defended Embassy in Tripoli? Would you expect all satellite consulates to be equally protected or would you concentrate your forces in the Embassy?

With keeping an open mind, I decided to search the web further on Libyans and how they feel about the murder of Chris Stevens. Do you know that they have taken to the streets to protest and condemn the attack on the US Consulate and the killing of Chris Stevens. I am curious to know why MSN and all of the media are not relaying this story ANYWHERE!!!! This is my problem with the news. They only report what they feel will get a rise from anyone (be it the government, the people, the military, etc.). They never show the good side of people. There is so much more that I want to say about this but it would be pages long. I am tired of sensationilsm. I just want the news straight up, without the opinions of the reporter, etc. And if you are going to report, then report ALL of the story.

Other than Mitt's statement, Hillary had one sentence when she said there is no excuse for what happened, that made me proud of being an American.                                                                             What the mainstream media doesn't report is that the very tactics used to kill Bin Laden, that were implemented in the Bush admin., are the same tactics that Obama is against. Without Bush's admin and interrogation tactics, there is no Bin Laden death.

                                                                            Romney was absolutely right for the statement he issued. Spoken like a tru Commander in Chief, not some apologetic coward who is too busy going on Letterman and meeting with Jay/Z to support our Allies.

                                                                            The media was caught on camera plotting against Romney, trying to bait him into stating regret for the statement and instead of backing down, he doubled down and affirmed why we need him in office. The media is doing this country a disservice by doing everything they can to keep Obama, it makes me sick.

                                                                            The media says that Romney has not shown any boldness, any back bone or any belief in why he would be a good Comm. in Cheif, well here you go and where does it get him? Criticized. He already has shown more guts in one month than Obama has ever!

                                                                            If the situation had been reversed and a Repub. was apologizing the media would want to destroy their rep, but when Obama "The Messiah" makes any completely ludicrous remarks, gets caught in a lie or has a damning qoute of his own thrown back in his face they make it seem like it is no big deal.

                                                                            "If you have no record to run on, then you have to resort to using stale tactics" - Barrack Obama said this during a speech in his 2008 campaign for the presidency, in regards to Bush.

                                                                            Bush gave up looking for Bin Laden.....Those u tube videos of him telling the nation he did not know where Bin Laden was and he wasn't looking for him anymore are pathetic!

                                                                            Romney when asked about Bin Laden said he would not search for him because it cost too much money! All the thousands of people dead and dying and Romney looks at the profit and loss column as if the country is a corporation instead of a country of Americans.

                                                                            President Obama and Team America Killed Bin Laden and keep picking them off day after day!

                                                                            JT3214347: YOU are 100% CORRECT! IF we are not careful, we will see another Iran Hostage scenario unfold. The same conditions exist, as they did back in 1979.... very weak president,seen by the rest of the world as weak. The economy at home was in shambles, causing distraction. The president so paralized he couldn't move.... by HIS OWN CHOOSING. LEFT embassies grossly under secured, horribly misread and misjudged the crowds and the governments in those countries! The "Arab Spring" knows NO bounds..... and Obama shows NO concern or awareness about the situation in the middle east!! Witness his jaunt to a fund raiser in Nevada, rather than stay put and be "presidental" . Which I guess is why Romney stepped in and addressed the issue.... someone had to fill the vacuum!

                                                                            Dems. and the Media criticize republicans for starting expensive wars and if THE SEALS hadn't found Bin Laden during B Obamas time then they would have criticized Romney for continuing an expensive war effort, so how can this man win with the biased liberal news media?

                                                                            I don't have time to throw fact after fact and quote after quote at the rejects who actually beleive Obama is doing something good for America.

                                                                            One thing I do know, a few months ago, these posts had no where near as many Romney supporters on them as they do now. Hopefully this week fully exposes the cowardice of Obama, running our country into the ground, failed policies, never before seen unemployment/underemployment numbers, etc.

                                                                            Unemployment, if taken into account all those who no longer receive benefits and have dropped out of the labor force, is at 19%!

                                                                            Not who this Nation needs. Do yourselves a favor.....

                                                                              The SEALS didn't find Bin Laden, they took him out. Bin Laden was found through diligence and hard work by an intelligence community that was re-invigorated when Obama decided to reverse the Bush plan to stop looking for Bin Laden.

                                                                              Jimmy, Just like October comes after September, PRESIDENT Obama sent a message trying to stave off the attack. THE attack came AFTER the speech. Get your own facts not parrotting the wrong info. I did not vote for him, but like him or not, Any True American is still polite and respectful of the office and calls the President, President.

                                                                              Dont be so quick to dump on Romney for not serving during Vietnam (I dont like it either), but I dont recall seeing any pictures of Obama in a Military Uniform. And if you remember, Bill Clinton was just like Romney during the Vietnam War. Personally I feel that a Commander in Chief should have some military experience. If you are going to put troops in harms way you should know whats its like to be there in the front lines.

Come on, diplomacy alone hasn't worked for the past decade or two, especially in the ME. ALL OPTIONS NEED TO BE ON THE TABLE FOR IT TO BE A DETERRENCE!
