Ever heard the term, Repeating the Same Mistakes and Expecting a Different Result. A very long time ago I was tasked to "informally" debrief Mr. "S" as part of my US Military Asymmetric Warfare Training. Mr. "S" was then a Motor Pool Officer at Germany. Over the course of a few months I got the full story of what happened at the US Embassy at Iran, that I wrote up as my Informal Debriefing. His position at the US Embassy was working directly for the US Ambassador as the US's eyes and ears of the Region, including the Security of all Classified at the US Embassy and the US Ambassador himself. He received the message from Communications at the Whitehouse (aka Redacted) that they were not allowed to fire at the Protesters, US Use of Deadly Force. Mr. "S" sources on the ground indicated that they needed to escape, as this would be a situation that there would not be any cavalry to the rescue (USMC) per US President. Mr."S" then backward planned based on when they needed to catch the last flight out. The US Ambassador refused to let Mr. "S" start to thermite grenade all the classified in the vault. At the last minute Mr."S" and his team with the necessary force grabbed the US Ambassador (deer in the headlights) threw him into the US Embassy's Blockade Running Security Vehicle and got the US Ambassador out while running over Iranians. Someone needs to answer for this. Nobody kills our citizens, especially when they're present for diplomatic reasons. Shannon you are so right-for years and years and years our money has been going to these countries and the money is never used for these people. It has been used to obtain weapons to kill us. You would think that our so intelligent government would have figured out to stop sending money to them years ago and our country would not be in such debt that it is. Our military is tough, but due to Vietnam, leaders need to be careful about these kind of things. Third world nations often blame us for their troubles, and use children and women as methods of attack on our boys (and girls, respectively). What I'm referring to is a drop in public opinion and support due to extremities needing to be taken to end the war with the least amount of casualties on either side. When vietnamese began killing civilians, we took the blame. If you remember, casualties were low in that war, and support was high at the beginning.

Back on subject, we shouldn't be wasting time in this country, it's virtually worthless. If a superpower had intent of somehow using this nation against us, maybe then. But this is merely because of our president's nationality and his sense of obligation to his father's (or mother's?) birthplace. We're spread out all over as it is. Let our British cousins handle this ugly fiasco, spare our soldiers' lives I say. Less money spent on bombs and ammo the better in my opinion. Marine guards at US Embassies are armed and have more than bullets for ammo. Not all consulates have MSGs, however. they are usually only at Embassies. At consulates, we are supposed to be protected by the local security forces. Obviously, some countries do this better than others.

One thing that really bothers me about all the reporting on the victims is that nothing has been said about Mr. Smith, other than his name and the fact that he was an Information management officer. It seems that communications staff do not receive any respect from the State Department.

Just think, for the same amount that we are spending on outsourced "private contractors" all these guys could've been surrounded by what, 15 Marines for the same amount of money?? If the budget (that you all want to slash) contains X dollars for security per consulate staff member which would you rather have, one guy at the equivalent of $300 a hour or 10 full time Marines for the same amount?? They weren't Marines, They were part of a private security detail. It was a Consulate, not an Embassy but Regardless, it is unconscionable to have Private Security with no means to protect themselves or their charges. I believe an investigation should be immediately called for by Congress to sort out the particulars. If the buck stops at the president's door he'll definately rue the day he made a decision like that.
