NBC's Jim Maceda answers questions about the Mideast protests

American missions across the Arab world tightened security on Friday in anticipation of more anti-U.S. demonstrations on the Muslim day of prayer.

Tensions flared with attacks  on U.S. embassies in Sudan and Tunisia, protests in Egypt, Jordan and Pakistan, and even the torching of a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in Lebanon.

Jim Maceda, veteran NBC News' Foreign Correspondent, has been reporting from Cairo on the protests triggered by an anti-Islam film for the last several days.

Is the wave of protests about more than the amateur, yet provocative, anti-Islam film? What’s really behind the anger? Maceda answered reader questions about the demonstrations earlier today.

White House and media need to get their heads out of the sand. It is NOT the video that's caused the attacks. It's their hatred of America and Obama. They burn our flag and they murder our diplomats, how much clearer do they have to be? Jay Carney looks like a fool speaking for the WH that it's the video's fault.....how stupid does the Obama administration think Americans are??? Sick of the media bias and White House mantra. America is not loved as Obama would like to lead us to believe, we are very much hated and we better get all the Americans out of these countries before more people die.

Frank. Can it! You have no idea what you are talking about with your gross over generalizations of what is going on in the Middle East. Just because you keep spouting off the same B.S. in all of your posts it's not going to make what you say true. Get over yourself! And Janet, just because you listen to Fox and Rush Limbaugh does not make you an expert on Foreign Policy...you are just as dumb as Frank.

We are all paying dearly for the hell this adminstration has wrought. The mideast on fire, hatred for western culture exploding, division in our own country encouraged. BO and his crew should be in the internment camps he's built. May God help us all.

Romney cant get in soon enough and may God help him clean up the messes BO and his thugs have left us.

World News on NBC News should be ashamed of itself -- you have failed in your job and should all be fired. There is so much unrest in the mid-east durng the last week and you have failed to advise your readers of this and have simply supplied mineocre news stories. What a dis-service you have performed. What about Egypt, Libbia and other areas where the American Embassies are being attacked by rioters -- shame on your for not making this the top stories and covering what is really happening in the world. Are your readers afraid of the truth about how obama is not even saying anything, that we all coud be in danger with our current administration not doing anything about it. I'm just done with MSN as my home page -- I think I'll try Google or Yahoo or one of the others now. Done, done, done.

And where are all the headlines ? why is obama fund raising in Vegas while our Foreign Embassy's are being attacked, That's an act of WAR. Why is obama & clinton apologising for some thing we didn't do ? And why aren't the muslim brotherhood listening to obama ? after all he said his superior intelligence would calm the rage and only he could comunicate with the Arab world. Speak up people !

Before I go take a crap,I just gotta say that I am really having a hard time with trying to understand why the press is so unAmerican and biased when it comes to reporting the facts. I mean why did you go to school ? to learn how to twist the facts, or did you all study Marxistism . The president is not behaving like he should, it's as plain as the nose on your face.

So at some point, we have to realize that the Islamic Religion is doing what Christianity did with cute little bits like the inquisition. The level of insanity that they aspire to is mind boggling, funny how they can burn the American Flag, torture, maim and kill for this religion and yet it's proclaimed to be a peaceful faith. Time to gut check this and decide how much we need organized religion in this world not just our country.

I suppose that at some point the world will realize that Islamic fundamentalists are never happy even with themselves. The are constantly killing each other under the pretense of an offense to Allah or much like the Christian Machine in America using it to justify a behavior. I love all the double speak that these people spew in an effort to soften the image of their horrific behavior.

I don't respect the fact that the President of the United States is waffling on what is an act of war but I am thankful that we are not dropping the 101st Airborne in or worse. The hate mongers responsible for this want to bleed us out so that our enemies can strike at our country and really hurt us. Make no mistake there is a bigger plan in the works.

Yes, a bigger plan that could bring America to its knees.

Let me think this out. They paint Osama's name all over walls, have huge pictures of him, and say there is over a billion Osama"s out there.

From the news and white house and state dept, it is , all about a short movie that has fewer hits than rosanne barr naked.

We have a ambassador and 3 others killed because a group of extremely heavily armed persons knew in advance where the safe house was located.

The movie that next to no one saw .

This president is a ringer, he is has done everything he can get away with to bring our country down right from the day the american people elected him. Wake up people, he has fought drilling for oil in our own country when americans our being bleed to death by foreign countries and are going into winter with the prospect of freezing this winter, hardly affording gas for there cars to go back and forth to work, and talk about food (have u been grocery shopping lately) This man has been against us from the very beginning since he was elected in office.

I'm am an american and I went to school in america and when I entered the first grade the first thing thing we did in school was say the pledge of allegence to the flag of america placing our right hand over our heart. Obama and his wife at his inaguration took the pledge with there left hands over their hearts (how do u make a mistake like that unless your showing to whoever is watching who's side your nreally on). That really bothered me so I thought well we will just see what occurs over time. Well it's been 4 years now and what do we know about him now. The authorities in Airizona say his birth certificate is forged, he has 3 different birth social security numbers (I have one) he has increased the debt so most analyst's say we are on the path to doom. I am really starting to see it, and I fear for this country's future. If this guy is re-elected I will blame the amarican people for allowing it. So america WAKE UP AND LOOK AT THIS GUY.

                        PS I hope i'm wrong!!!!

Nobody is saying that Africa needs diversity.

Nobody is saying that Asia needs diversity.

                          They are already 100% diverse.

People are only telling white children in white countries that they need diversity.

White countries will be 100% diverse when there are no white people left.

Diversity is a code-word for the genocide of white people.

Every white country on earth is supposed to become multicultural and multiracial.

                          Anti-racist is a codeword for anti-white.

It is also a known fact White races forced their will on other peoples with the gun and the Bible. In those rare occasional when peacefully accepted by friendly "natives" in every instance he has turned on his new friends and at the point of a sword or bullets subjugated them and plundered their territories enslaving them. Africa did not invade Europe and take their farms and murdered and enslaved their peoples for gold and silver and oil. The Mayans did not invade Spain! The Indian tribes of North America did not invade Europe either. White peoples forced their way into these areas out of greed and a relentless need to own land and peoples and wealth. The came waving the bible as a weapon and denigrating others as being less than human in order to rape, pillage and murder for gold or land in total disregard for life or cultures or anything. Now centuries later when communications has shrunk the world and travel can be counted in hours rather than months natives of these countries have invaded the "white countries and when taken all together, brown, black and yellow and all the other colors in between created by the wanton spreading of his seed by white conquerors "whites" now find themselves out numbered and in danger of disappearing. So please do not blame blacks or brown or yellow people for the plight you find yourself in. History tells the real story. It is too late to worry about being out numbered. You are simply being absorbed.

Food for thought. While reading all of the vitriolic postings it seems that everyone at least this morning is focused on the Koran and the teachings of Mohamed. But if you go back to the old testament many of the situations discussed could easily have come out of the old testament. The story of Israel and it's war machine are well documented. Thousands, millions were killed by Israel on direct orders from God. Recall the story of Jericho? Yet we seem to forget all that in favor of the new testament doctrine of Jesus. As for the conquering forces of the West the many atrocities committed in the name of God are no less despicable than those attributed to the followers of Mohamed. Less we forget the enslavement of certain tribes of Africa and the decimation of that continent still trying today to overcome the damage. African civilization was totally destroyed by the forces of Europe in the name of "God." Latin American natives were decimated and in some instances made extinct by Europeans. The story of the American Indian in America more recently paints the picture of how the name of God has been put to use over time. When the Pope encouraged knights to descend on Palestine in what became the "Crusades"; Holy wars to liberate Palestine we now know it was nothing more than a huge attempt at land grabbing. How many Arabs died in that little adventure. Jews and Arabs have been killing each other for years. Nothing new here. But the West inserted itself in this thousands of years old conflict without any consideration of what the fight was/is all about. Yet today there are those who write on these pages sufficiently ignorant to believe that President Obama started all this. Even forgetting America's years of aiding and abetting dictators who took American monies supposedly intended to help the people but rather enriched themselves and cruelly suppressed their people. These Dictators were seen as America's friends which made their peoples Americas enemies. In the Arab world not everyone has the ability to be an Al Quieda and bring down large buildings. But they can see American Embassies right there in front of them and it is against this that they vent their years long pent up frustrations. In short the chickens have come home to roost.

On the other hand Israel having been set down in the middle of an Arab world again by Westerners who wanted to contain the Israelis as much as anyone else probably saw it's location as being strategic to future access of massive amounts of energy and in so doing inextricably inserted itself into a war that is thousands of years old and used Israel as the excuse to reach in and control the region. Israel while benefiting from this relationship has at the same time paid and continues to pay a terrible price. Now Israel is calling in her debt. Mr. Netanyahu wants to hobble Iran if not outright kill her and he knows he can't do it by himself. So he openly challenges the President of the United States in an invitation to attack Iran without concern for the overwhelming consensus that it would trigger WW3. And idiots on these pages seemingly believe that the next war is winnable when we know everyone looses.

The film was one reason for the recent Arab unrest. But should the world not look at who those "foreigners" were that used the protest to kill the American Ambassador? Who would benefit from these attacks on US embassies? Israel? And the Romney backers perhaps? If the world has learned nothing about President Obama it only has to remember Bin Laden's demise. There is no doubt that the perpetrators will be found and then it will be very clear who benefited most from the Arab unrest and the death of the Ambassador Stevens and three others.

It is mere co-incidence that all this started only after Mitt Romney visited the region; that a little known film was re-scripted to intentionally insult Islam and used to incite riots aimed at the US. That Netanyau openly picks a fight with the President? Is this Republican styled "carpet bombing?" Such questions must be put on the table and the international press must pursue them with vigor if we are to avoid the cataclysm toward which we are daily being pushed.

ExS---History: Good to know, good to correct the mistakes of and, good to get past. Who is committing the atrocities in the present --that is the focus.

                            Obama's problem: "Weakness invites aggression"

Purpose of Radical Muslims, words of the Quran, teachings of Muhammad: Sura 8:59: "The infidels should not think that they can get away from us. Prepare against them whatever arms and weaponry you can muster so that you may terrorize them"

Sura 9, verse 5: "Fight and slay the pagans wherever you find them, and see them, belittle them and lie in wait for them in every strategy of war".

They hate us because we supported Mubarak who "held them down", because we "support Israel at the expense of Palestinians", they hate us because we are infidels. They hate that their way of life/religion is not compatible with modern society and can offer the modern person no enlightenment. Islam continues the ancient way of severely controlling it's people by tying religion and state together so that they are effectively operating as one. Our culture does not look to clerics for answers in regard to matters of law, politics or economics and theirs continues to do so.

Your conspiracy theory is ridiculous. In times of war or great unrest the American people are reluctant to change leaders. So who would benefit most?

ExSunshine - you far outshine some of these other "commentators", so much so, now let's get people with understanding in politics. The other "commentators" are oblivious to history, or of all the travelers who over the many preceeding years went to the Middle East from America and elsewhere in the world, before unprovoked attacks, and savored the Middle East culture, with no problem whatsoever.

"Right-wing" "Christians", an oxymoron composed of same. No such thing exists in Christianity, and it is not Christ's teachings they espouse, but death, hatred, bigotry, murder, and none of the Beatitudes.
