Iran launches sub as US, allies hold massive naval drills in Persian Gulf

DUBAI -- Iran launched a submarine and a destroyer into the Persian Gulf from Bandar Abbas port on Tuesday at the same time as U.S. and allied forces held massive naval exercises in the same waters to practice keeping oil shipping lanes open.

Tehran has repeatedly threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz, a route for oil exports from the gulf, if Iranian nuclear sites are attacked by Israel, which believes Tehran is trying to develop an atomic bomb.

The United States, Britain, France and a number of Middle Eastern states are conducting a naval exercise in the gulf this week, focusing on how to clear mines that Tehran or guerilla groups might deploy to disrupt tanker traffic.

The exercises, with 25 countries participating, are the largest ever of its kind in the region, according to Britain’s Telegraph newspaper

The multinational force includes three U.S. Nimitz class carrier groups, each of which has more aircraft than Iran’s entire air force, the newspaper said.

The force is also supported by at least 12 battleships, including ballistic missile cruisers, frigates, destroyers and assault ships, which carry thousands of U.S. Marines and special forces, the Telegraph reported.

Netanyahu: Iran guided by 'unbelievable fanaticism'

Iran's refitted Tareq-901 submarine and Sahand destroyer were launched on the direct orders of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the official IRNA news agency reported.

Iran's 'strong fence'
On the other side of the country, Khamenei visited the northern coastal city of Nowshahr on Tuesday to watch naval cadets practice planting mines, freeing hijacked ships, destroying enemy vessels and jumping from helicopters, his official website said.

"The armed forces must reach capabilities such that no one can attack the strong fence of the country and the dear people of Iran," Khamenei told army commanders, according to the Iranian Students News Agency.

Iran's Tareq-class submarines are diesel-electric boats that were originally built in Russia in the early 1990s, according to the Nuclear Threat Initiative, a non-profit organization that focuses on security affairs.

Iran: 'Nothing will remain' of Israel if war starts

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that Tehran was close to being able to build a nuclear bomb, fuelling speculation about an Israeli strike. Iran insists its nuclear program is peaceful.

Publicly, Iranian military officials have sounded relaxed about the U.S. naval exercise.

Friction mounts as Israel asks that U.S. give Iran an ultimatum; a tricky position for Obama, whose foreign policy has been lauded. NBC's Andrea Mitchell and CNBC's John Harwood report.

"This exercise is a defensive exercise and we don't perceive any threats from it," Mohammad Ali Jafari, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, told local media.

"We are not conducting exercises in response," he said.

What do you call a small obsolete 21 year old diesel submarine that goes up against a US carrier battle group? A oil slick. What do you call a Iranian destroyer that goes up against a US carrier battle group? A reef.

I agree with most of what this article says, just wanted to correct you on a few things. Russia itself is a big oil state , so they don't need iran's oil, but they are ally of iran and they don't want Iran to fall , that put the russian in danger strategically. also iran monitory is not dinar, it is rial.

Let this new toy of Iran's try to get in close to one of our carrier battle groups. I'm sure SUBLANT's hunter-killer boats would enjoy practicing on a live target.

"The multinational force includes three U.S. Nimitz class carrier groups, each of which has more aircraft than Iran's entire air force..."

Iran has no idea what they are dealing with...

Right now as it is, the entire country of Iran is creeping with Mossad, CIA and MI6.

Iran's borders and waters are surrounded by some of the most feared Nuclear Submarines of all times, even the Russian old KGB spies acknowledge the new US submarines arsenal are enough to finish all "life as we know it".....

One wrong move by these terrorists, and a cigar smoking US Nuclear submarine commander would not hesistate to push the RED button; not even Obama can save you....

      Why tempt fate terrorists?

Or just blow it the hell out of the water as soon as it threatens any oil tanker, or U.S. Armed Services ship..

The Islamic Terrorist Republic of Iran is outgunned, surrounded ,isolated and without hardly any support in the world. This nazi islamic terrorist type regime has held the world hostage for 33 years. They will fall much easier than the nazi German gangsters .If they try anything funny .they will be responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of their citizens, just as Hitler was responsible for the death of millions of his. They have to be stopped before they have a nuke bomb !! For the good of world peace and all of human civilazation...The world is now in a post Munich situation. The Islamic Revolution has to be overthrown soon!

mike christain - Nazi, haha you said Nazi. what are you twelve years old?

In 1933 Fundamentalist Islamic Representative of the "Islamic World" Amin Al Husseini signed the 1933 Forever Alliance with Chancellor Hitler.

After that Representative Amin Al Husseini started the Elite Muslim SS Brigades, that were used internal to Germany to round up the German Political Dissenters and the Jews. They were later used external to Germany to fight the US and US Allies, especially at the "Middle East" (including Islamic North Africa).

      http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=amin+al+husseini&view=detail&id=2AA98BED9D3E75309E65AF26036818D6DAA8B07E&first=46

Fundamentalist Islamic Amin Al Husseini co founds the Fundamentalist Islamic Arab League of Nations, Original Charter the Extermination of the Jews. And demands the implementation of his Pan Arabic Plan, the forced removal of the original inhabitants of Palestine by armed force, the Christians and Jews, to be replaced by the "undesirables" (prisoners) from Egypt and Jordan, this was also done by armed force for those Arabs that would have to give up their families, relatives, property at Egypt and Jordan; the dumb arse British even help the Arabs do this, prevent the Jews from settling on those Lands that even the Arabs did not want until after the Jews developed the land with irrigation; these same Arabs instead of developing their own Nations Infrastructure spent all their wealth buying weapons from the USSR.

Fundamentalist Islamic Amin Al Husseini demands the Fundamentalist Islamic Arab League of Nations exterminate the Jews (aka Israel). In the Wars that follow the Fundamentalist Islamic Arab League of Nations lose the West Bank, Gaza, Golan Heights, Palestine, part of Jordan, part of Egypt, etc.. As sore losers they demand their losses back in exchange for Peace (LOL).

To keep their hatred to continue forever, Fundamentalist Islamic Amin Al Husseini has all Islamic Nations have implemented his Mandatory School Curriculum of Chancellor Hitler's Mein Kampf taught as a success story that was sabotaged by the Jews, the blame the Jews for everything, "Protocols of the Wise Elders of Zion", the 109 Suras of the 114 Suras of the Holy Koran's Calls to All Islamic Believers to War Against the Christians, Jews, Unbelievers, etc.. When I was sent to College at Egypt to learn Arabic I was required to attend the Mandatory School Curriculum or be expelled; later on when I went to another College at Egypt to learn Islam (taught only in Arabic) again I had to attend the Mandatory School Curriculum, the Egyptian Families that I lived with stated that this is normal and starts from the first days that they attend any school.

Fundamentalist Islamic Amin Al Husseini influences the founding of the Fundamentalist Islamic Muslim Brotherhood that was so Fundamentalist that most Islamic Nations made them Illegal.

To this day Fundamentalist Islamic Amin Al Husseini is considered an Islamic Superstar and Hero.

All of those saying that we need to attack the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran, with all of their Allies the Chinese and Russian Federation Military Units operating their 21st Century Weapons Systems, and providing Maintenance on these Chinese and Russian Federation Weapons Systems, TOO F**KING LATE.

The time to have attacked them was went US Ally Saudi Arabia was begging the US and or Israel to attack the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran; instead President Obama ignored (blew them off) US Ally Saudi Arabia. With US Ally Saudi Arabia so pissed off, "President Obama gave Iraq to Iran as a Gift on a Golden Platter".

It will be very difficult for the US to justify a strike on Iran, because our intelligence community has stated that Iran is not working on a nuclear weapons program. Their consensus coincides with that of the Israeli intelligence. The people ones pushing for war are the hard liners in Israel and Zionists the world over.

The sane people in the world, realize the demonizing of Iran is just Zionist propaganda, similar to that which was done to Iraq.

WMD indeed! Remember, the mobile biological weapons labs they touted as WMD were really for filling weather balloons. The Niger documents were proved to be forgeries. Do not fall for Zionist bs again. They lost their creditability in Iraq.

Has anyone read how Larry Silverstein is now sueing Logan International and the United American Airlines for billions. His insurance against a terrorist attack was good for 4 billion dollars. I wonder if the defendants can put him on the stand to explain how Bldg 7 fell, despite not being hit by an airplane and his order to "pull it".

This trial could be good. If I were a defendant, I would bring up the engineers and architects testimony on 9/11, which tells how the WTCs fell in controlled demolitions.

No one uses the term Zionist in the US and youtube videos are not a good creditable source of information. lose change conspiracy video was a huge laugh. Those "experts" were not experts at all and yes Bldg 7 fell despite not being hit by an airplane because it instead got hit by the freeking WTC building that was falling. The building was evacuated and deemed unsafe and later that afternoon fell (with zero deaths). Lose change is the most idiotic conspiracy video i ever seen. Simple High school physics proves how delusional the film is. Only those extremely gullible and uneducated could believe such a joke. Ralph ,the WMD in Iraq were not found..But they might have been sent to Syria.Even without them there were grounds to invade Iraq because they violated the agreement to open up their country for inspections after they were expelled from Kuwait which they had tried to make disappear. For years they played cat and mouse games with the U.N and the international community.Their hand was called and the Hussein regime was overthrown .Iran is diffferent,The proof of Iran´s nuke bomb program has been proved by the intelligence of many countries and now the U:N .There is no doubt, that the enrichment program which can not be used for anything but a bomb is speeding ahead. This already is a justification to attack Iran Aside from that. Iran has committed terrorist attacks on 6 continents. This is also a type of declaration of war which would justify getting rid of the Islamic Revolution in Iran All this has also been investigated and is certain..This article is about Iran, but your pyscho babble about LarrySilverstone on Stein or whatver is not only irrelevant and has a lack of value ( which means it could be eliminated by Newsvine) but it goes along way to justify what many people on Newsvine suspect that the H might be for hezbollah hitler.hamas or hussein ) that that you might live in gaza or Iran where you work for the propaganda offices.Agian this article is about Iran, not Israel or Logan airport or the international "Zionist conspiracy" so at least buzz off from this article and go to the anti Israel anti Jewish bashing site or Iran or Germany in 1944 .where you seem to be happier. Have a good trip!!

All anyone has to do is watch the video. It clearly shows Bldg7 falling into its own footprint in a controlled demolition. It shows Silverstein telling them to "pull it", just before the fal of Bldg 7. If one building was rigged, they all were rigged.-- Let the truth be known. PBS in one city is showing the video of the architects and engineers explaining how the WTCs and Bldg 7 were obviously rigged with nano thermite, prior to them being hit. Bldg 7 was hundreds of yards away from the towers.

RalphH .. that building had no one in it when it fell and it was expected to fall thats why it was evacuated and deemed unsafe. The fires couldn't be put out safely and the suppression system lacked the water due to the massive damage to utilities in that area along with some design flaws. The EOC was relocated to the back up EOC and was activated without much of a delay ( a minor delay). There were no deaths associated to the fall of the WTC 7 building. If it was "rigged" it was done to do a controlled fall verses having the thing falling on rescue workers. i would have ordered it to be demolished if i was the Incident Commander.

Johngis, it takes weeks to rig a building to fall in a controlled demolition. There were men allegedly working on the elevators of the twin towers at night, in the months preceeding the attack on 9/11. The elevators were in the core of the building.

Whether anyone died in Bldg 7 or not is irrelevant. As I stated before, if one building was rigged, they all were rigged and Bldg 7 is the smoking gun. Silverstein, as the owner, had control of security of all 3 buildings. Nothing could be done of that magnitude, without his knowledge.

bart martin I don't know where you get your info from ,perhaps you should contact all 16 us intelligence agencies who concluded that as of 2003 Iran has stopped working on nuclear bomb and they are not looking to make a bomb. U.s and israel have killed iranian scientist, sanctioned Iran in a most inhumane way possible, surronded iran with their millitary bases in all the arab persian gulf, afghanistan, and azerbayjan, having two aircraft carriers stationed in persian gulf, and may more , these are action declaring war. as for iraq, as a matter of fact the iaea inspectors were in iraq when they were told to get out and iraq was attacked, and don't forget prior to that u.s had put some sever sanction on iraq that nearly a million children died from starvation, this is declaration of war. and as far far as iran uranium enrichment, Iran had agree to stop enrichment above 5%, If the u.s and the west provided them with the medical isotopes for the reseach and treating their 800000 cancer patients, but the west refused and declined their request. In order to make medical isotopes they must enrich uranium to %20. so they are w/in their rights and that is not justification to attack them. and why don't you explain to the rest of us how israel has over 400 atomic bomb, did not sighn the npt, has not allowed iaed inspectores ,kill iranian scientists and many more covert and false flags and they get away with it.

Correct, the last Battleships in commission AND operational were the Iowa class Battleships: Iowa, New Jersey, Wisconsin, and the Missouri, they were retired ten years ago or more. An easy way to tell if a ship is a Battleship is if it has 16 inch guns, 15 inch guns, 14 inch guns, 12 inch guns. The BB's with 14 and 12 inch guns were WW I and older. British WW II BB'S had 15 inch guns and very possibly 16 inch guns, US WW II BB's mostly had 16 inch guns but some older ones had 14 inch guns.

You are right S3, which is why we have nothing to fear from Iran. Iraq was even less a threat than Iran, yet the war criminals, led by Bush, Cheney and the neocons in the Whitehouse, started a war against Iraq which featured "shock and awe". The American people swallowed the idea there was a threat and let our nation sacrifice our reputation as a nation of fairness and compassion.

We cannot let our government lead us into another war for Israel over drummed up intelligence and outright lies.

The most important item the Iranians have not addressed is what happens after they run out of missles and bullets because they used them all in the "opening salvos". And they will have to use everything they have. Do they think that when the smoke clears they will see the total destruction of US and Isreali forces?

Hardly. When the smoke clears, Iran will be sitting there with empty guns and staring at a force vastly larger and far more capable. No, this is a case of big bark, small bite.

One Nimitz class US carrier holds more fire power than the entire Irianian AF.

I do not doubt at all that the Irainians can cause alot of damage out of the gate. But they can't sustain a long term military engagement and if they think they could shut down the Strait of Hormez for any length of time they need to lay off the kool-aid.

Israel is just setting us up. Always talking @!$%# and expecting us to bail them out. What exactully do they do for us. Are they keeping countries from blowing us off the face of the earth every 3 to 4 months, or is that what we do for them? Unreal.

first iran has a millitary industry, and they do have many resources and they wont run out so quickley, but regardless of what they have or not have why are we exactly want to go to war with them?that is a question that we have to answere before all these bs. and 2nd look at the afghan people. they are withstanding the us and nato forces with $5 home made bombs. It is not how much you spend on millitary, it is the will of people who don't want their land to be occupied . why don't you check the recent war with iran simulation that pentegan ran recently. It is not as easy as you think.and the simulation did not put into facts that china, russia and the whole middle east my get involved with it. if u.s thoght it was easy, they would have done it long ago.

Without US help, iran can easily beat isreal's navy.. I am not so sure about air force though...

Even if they inflict similar casualties to easch other, iran still will come out on top...

Take out 2 million people from isreal, they are f*cked.

Take out 2 million from iran, it barely makes a dent...Plus, iran is already in middle ages somewhat, so no big deal economy collapsed, infrastructure demolished etc...

But for isrealis, its unlivable w/out internet access, let alone w/out running water in the WC...

No one will take out 2 million human beings from Isarel unless Russia launched a Nuclear war. Which would mean the US and India and others would also. That would be the end of the world. I dont think anyone wants that

If Iran blows them off the face of the earth, that sure would save us billions of dollars that we could be using for other things. We need to leave all these countries alone. They dug their own graves. Why do we have to keep protecting them every time they threaten someone. No one is threating us on our land.

russian's are iran's ally, so an attack from israel(which I have no doubt that Israel will use their nuclear bomb to penetrate iran's nuclear facilities, would endanger all species , not only in iran , but countries that border Iran including russia. all the arab countires, armenia, azarbayjan and some europian countries may even get the radiation. and there is no quick surgical operation. tehran has a 7 million population and the reseach facility is in tehran. so this will turn nuclear.

This may well be a propaganda run-up to a false flag attack in which one of Israel's Dolphin submarines, admitted by Germany to be armed with nuclear-tipped cruise missiles, sneaks up along the Iranian cost and fires an attack at a US ship, quite possibly the soon-to-be-scrapped USS Enterprise. So, ahead of hearing the Big Bang and the inevitable screams from Israel's presstitutes at ABCNNBBCBSFOX, just use your common sense and ask yourself why Iran, trying as hard as they can to avoid a war, would initiate such a foolish attack? As a reminder, Iran has not started a war in over 200 years, a claim neither Israel nor the United States can match.

Thats what I personally worried about; isreal's only focus right now is how to get US to attack iran... Looking at isreal's history, they will do anything to (There is no limit to how low they can go) achieve what they think is good for them...

They jacked around US thru jew looby and got us into wars in some freaking places we have no business with.

But people of US is now more informed and can smell the stink coming form isreal..

So nate yahu is terrified with the prospect of attacking iran and get whacked in the process, with US in the sidelines, saying, "Clean up your own mess a-holes"

isreal will lose dearly; many men, billions etc, form which they can not recover... If , they manage to survive the assault by iran..

Whole thing can be avoided by isreal acting like human beings.

These stupid isrealis actually believe they have a right to attack iran for "presumed nuke development" where they themselves actually have them...

Only because the stupid Iranians and many others believe they have the god given right to genocide anyone who is Jewish. their so called right to genocide ends at the barrel of the US war machine. Not on our watch and the US isn't going anywhere. The blood lust of these extremist is a sick disease. Iran has sworn to genocide Israel in public and does not try to even hide it. Special thanks to Raytheon, lockheed, vought, GE and others the homicidal blood lusting fanatics do not have a chance.

isreal will lose dearly; many men, billions etc, form which they can not recover... If , they manage to survive the assault by iran..

you think iran is only interested in killing men? they want to Genocide and do things under their insane cult religion equal if not worse than the "rape of Nan King" but in all honesty Iran is no match for Israel.. thank God

Gee Johngis, if Iran doesn't like Jews, why do they have thousands of them living happily in Iran? They wouldn't have to go to Israel to start a genocide. They could start right in their own country. The truth is, their problem is with Zionism and the Likud government of Israel, not Judism.

OK, Rivero, so there are two possibilities:

                  1. The Israelis will attack the poor peace-loving Iranians or

                  2. The Israelis will attack an American ship, pretending to be Iranian. They might, however, avoid attacking the USS Enterprise, since both Kirk and Spock are Jewish (AKA William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy).

Absolutely. IF we do not get our noses out of there and leave these Middle Eastern countries to their own destruction then we are going to have to play "Police Of The World" again. Israel likes pushing buttons....Israel needs to defend themselves then if they can't stop pushing buttons of the fanatics.....and drag the US into it. NO, the US should have learned by now that the Middle East is not our friend and will kill every last one of us if they get a chance, after they break us (taking all that foreign aid money to build their armies and train troops to kill us).........time the US worried about the US and it's citizens and stayed out of everyone else's business. We are becoming another dirty, broke down, broke third world country thanks to all these squabbles, chest thumping, bar rattling skirmishes.

We made to many enemies at the cost of being friends with Israel. They did it to themselves by butchering men women and children all for land. Well now they will know what it is to be the chosen people.

It's true, Irans sub probably poses no threat to us. But those shore based Chinese Sunburn missiles make our navy a bunch of sitting ducks in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has many thousands of conventional missiles, that will send the cowardly israelis whineing and crying down in their little ratholes and shelters for months to come. And Russia won't be very happy if some of their nuclear scientists are killed by israel or the us. Russia and China have already sent some very strong signals that we should not attack Iran! And we disregard them at our peril. Not to mention that america is broke and can't afford another war for israel.

Thats 200 plus years old when all we had to worry about were the amish, quakers and a few Native Indians to name a few, no real threats. Ha Ha When were the Amish and Quakers a threat. The Mormons were never even a threat. The U.S. cavalry, and citizens attacked them several times though. They retreated several times farther west each time. The Mormons did protect themselves though, but they never actively attacked any town or Army.

As for the Quakers and the Amish, that was straight up bunk. They only lived separate because they were different. You need to read more history. Michener wrote some pretty good stuff about the Grenzler Dutch in Pennsylvania. Try starting there.

It appears we can't post links here. So you armchair admirals and generals might want to Google USS Stark, Sunburn missile, SS-NX-26 Yakonts missiles, before further embarrassing yourselves with a lot of hot air!

Before reading my message, note that I am a hippy.

A human being living in the land of Iran should be mad for reasons not understood by never-having-dealt-with situations as theirs.

Look at it from their view: What if in the 1950's, Iran overthrew our president and installed a puppet government for their interest? What if Iran invaded Mexico and Canada while their fleet was sitting inside the Gulf of Mexico? What if they demanded you stop making nuclear things while Iran had nuclear arsenal up the ass? What if they controlled all opinions --for good or bad -- of the world and told everyone that the US is bad? What if in the late 1940's they brought millions of muslims to the province of Quebec and said that it is now their land? Would you not be infuriated? Would you not want to kill the Muslims that took already-declared-land from Canada?

If anyone goes up against this comment(which I feel it's inevitable), let it be known that I am not a Muslim. I am American like you.

Keith Browne That's crock of BS , God does not and will not protects countries that attack and threat every body , and destroy people lands and homes , and God does not have Chosen people , Because if he does , I am giving up my Christian faith and all the CHRISTIANS SHOULD DO THE SAME , Our Jesus taught us , that we all God's Children's , even the evil ones , No Chosen ones , that's a crock the Jews and your Conservatives preachers ( which they should become Rabbis ) want you to believe , they even forged some of the Bible to make convenient for them , I was Born and raised a Christian , they crucified our Jesus and now they claim they are the Chosen ones , Wow Its like some body killing your son and claim to be your favorite person , what a crock , you all need to get over that one . and to all of you Christians that believe that , you all should become Jews ( If the chosen ones let you , off course they are very picky ) and leave Christianity to the ones that believe in Jesus as the son of God , and that he died for every body , NO EXCEPTIONS .

The Bible was written 30 years after Jesus left us , and most of the people that written the Bible were Jews , so I do not believe everything I read , Just like I do not believe Eve ate that apple and fed it to Adam , and I do not believe that Eve slept with her own kids , sorry buddy I am a Christian , but that's what My Jesus gave the brain to think , unlike some people .

Last time the Iranian puddle pirates decided to toy with the USN, they lost in about 5 hours.

This time, it won't last that long...

All those props in the water .... Almost sounds like a Lake Fork, Texas weekend fishing tournament.
