CANBERRA, Australia -- Australia's deputy prime minister said Friday that the greatest threat to the U.S. economy are "cranks and crazies" in the Republican Party.
Wayne Swan, who also serves as treasurer and is his center-left Labor Party government's ranking finance minister, took aim at the Tea Party during a speech to a business forum on Friday, breaking a convention among Australia's major parties to steer clear of U.S. domestic political debates.
Swan, one of few world leaders able to boast his country had avoided recession during the global financial crisis, also labelled the Tea Party wing of the Republicans as "extreme."
"Let's be blunt and acknowledge the biggest threat to the world's biggest economy are the cranks and crazies that have taken over the Republican Party," Swan said in a speech in Sydney.
While courting Hispanic voters on Univision, GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney delivered a new message after saying he stood by his beliefs about the "47 percent." NBC's Chuck Todd reports.
The Republican Party's position on the U.S. budget had led a year ago to the deadlock in negotiations, Swan said, to prevent the looming "fiscal cliff" -- nearly $600 billion in planned spending cuts and tax hikes that will bite early next year.

The U.S. Congress had been debating whether to increase the U.S. borrowing ceiling but the Republicans would not budge.
"Despite President Obama's goodwill and strong efforts, the national interest was held hostage by the rise of the extreme Tea Party wing of the Republican Party," he said.
Australian politicians rarely launch such blunt criticism of their counterparts in the United States, Australia's most important strategic ally.
Texas' U.S. Senate candidate Ted Cruz and a Meet the Press roundtable talk about the Tea Party's rise in the GOP and Paul Ryan's role in that public increase.
Swan, named by banking magazine Euromoney as its finance minister of the year in 2011, also called on the U.S. Congress to resolve an agreement on the budget to support growth in the short term.

With the U.S. presidential campaign entering its final weeks, the spending cuts and tax hikes will kick in unless Obama and Congress reach a deficit-reduction deal.
'Peddling hatred'
Democrats want to make up the shortfall by increasing taxes on wealthy Americans, while Republicans favor spending cuts.
The conservative opposition said Swan's speech betrayed his "hatred" of Republicans.
"The Labor Party is peddling hatred and [they've] got to stop," opposition treasury spokesman Joe Hockey told reporters. "They hate the Republican Party. I'd like Wayne Swan to say something positive about someone somewhere."

Prime Minister Julia Gillard, who is due to travel to New York next week to address the United Nations General Assembly, defended her deputy's comments as "appropriate."
"What happens in the U.S. economy matters to the world economy and it matters to us," she told reporters. "Wayne Swan was making that very common sense point today."
Adam Lockyer, a lecturer at Sydney University's U.S. Studies Center, described Swan's speech as "a clumsy political move" that left him open to attack from his political enemies.
Lockyer said Swan might have been attempting to link the Tea Party to the obstructionism of the Australian opposition, which has thwarted Labor's legislative agenda in a finely-balanced Parliament.

Australia has long maintained that its close relationship with Washington, and its 61-year-old defense alliance, remains strong regardless of who is in the White House.
Former conservative Prime Minister John Howard was widely criticized in 2007 when he claimed Obama, then a Democratic presidential nominee, represented al-Qaida's interests.
Howard, a staunch U.S. ally in the Iraq war who lost elections later that year after 11 years in power, created one of the first controversies of Obama's presidential campaign by attacking his plan to withdraw troops.

Geez between him and Gillard, they need to pull their heads in and look in our backyard. The only reason they can flap their gums "how good we are economic wise" is the billions they inherited from Howard and the mining boom. The rest of the world must be so sick of them bleating about their "visions of grandeur". I am curious how Howard and Costello would have handled the GFC over Rudd and Swan. (i have no party allegiance) I think Swan is making a fair point Shona1 about the tea party, trickledown/supplyside economics has backfired on the Americans, which isn't nice to see them struggle. If this Rommney gets in he's going to run america into the ground worse then Bush did and im concerned he's going to drag us down with him. As far as you voting for your dog next election i think it will have a fair chance, might get my vote too :)

Evening Kris. I think they would have continued on as they had done for the last 11 years they were in power. Watching the dollars, careful management, not throwing our money around and riding it out. We were isolated to a certain extent of the "majour crunch" and we managed to get thru pretty well, thanks to China. The billions Gillard/Swan have wasted on economic stimulus packages is a shocker. I am not fussed with either party and the last election I was so disalutioned with them I voted informal. Have never done that before. I agree I don't like to see what has happened in America, but it is now happening here as well. If anyone is going to drag us down it will be China if their economic bubble bursts. Then we are really going to be up to our necks in it. The vote for the dog is looking better every day...have a good evening...
As an American, I find no fault with what was said. When you're right, you're right.....no matter which country you said it from. Romney won't win this election unless Obama decides to quit running, but the real threat is TP and GOP clowns like Paul Ryan and Ted Cruz getting elected or reelected for the Congress or Senate. These aggressively ignorant and opportunistic scum will say anything to get elected so they can feel important. We're just glad the rest of the world can see how nuts they are too!!

You are definitely right, elections here are pretty much non-stop these days, but since you can buy politicians these days by appealing to the under-educated voters' emotions like willowbrook there, corporations have decided that buying politicians is cheaper than running advertising campaigns, and now they can spend as much money as they want without disclosing who they are. Been struggling with the 3 worst renewals in the business 45 year history, have lost almost all access to care, and currently looking at losing care no later than 2014, as we will not be able to afford to bring our deductible down from $5000 to $2500 AND pay the $500 per employee fully insured tax Obamacare is placing on plans like ours. (Oh but wait, self insured and Union plans don't have to pay that tax.....why do small businesses?)The truth is 47% do not pay. The FACT is our Tax Code is a disaster, and that's not Romney's fault at all. Like I said, Liberals can't take the truth. Not heard one plan from ANY Democrat on how they are going to fix our Govt's spending problem. And no, taxing the Rich even more is not the solution, it is only a drop in the bucket compared to the spending. Let alone, going down to those making $200,000 a year will hit many small business owners...(you know, the largest employer after the US govt. in this country.) The same small businesses who have been hurt by Obamacare and increased energy costs already. Gee let's give them yet another reason why they can't invest in their own business because they are giving EVEN more to the govt. to waste.

Consider an analogy where college work awarded with grades is a microcosm of the economy at large, where workers (or investers) are paid with money.
Let's say you make the case that it is UNFAIR that some students earn a 4.0 GPA while others scrape by with a 1.5 GPA. You want to redistribute those GPA points to level the playing field so you can say that you have made EQUALITY priority 1.
Every class now has their GPA points averaged together to arrive at a single score that every student gets. Equality has been achieved! Hallelujah!
NOW, what do you think happens to the quality of education? How fast do you think the entire college system would be in shambles? Do you really believe that anyone would still work, study, and go the extra distance if they can't keep the grades they earn??

You're about 8 years too late with your argument, but we appreciate that finally get the depth of the hole we're in. Now please remind me of the last president that left office with a budget surplus...I can't seem to remember.
@ sleuth - (too bad your posts don't reflect your name...) Any of the Republican candidates we've had this go round would be better than Obama. Here is how I see it. I have only 2 choices in this race, Obama or Romney. The question to me is....do I continue with Obama who will give us, at best 4 more years of gridlock and no job growth, or at worse, we become Greece; or do I take a chance with Romney, who has a proven record of job creation and gives us at least the opportunity to attempt to recover the jobs we've lost and strengthen our economy. Let alone he would be a candidate who would act Presidential. The choice is clear, I'm not a masochist. I'm not willing going to purposely vote for more bad policy and a President who was very unqualified when he took office and has learned nothing in the past 4 years.
So by default I must vote for Romney, there is no other choice. But I also consider him a better candidate than McCain was in 2008. It will be interesting to find out how many voted for Obama in 2008 to prove they wasn't racist, will not vote for Obama to prove they are not stupid. Skin color is a poor reason to choose a candidate. And the last 4 years is your greatest proof.
Honestly, you need to do some research on Obama. If you did, I think you would start to question your blind faith.....It was a huge mistake when the Media didn't vet him in 2008.

I believe this says it all as to why NBC saw this as a "viable" news story. Only problem is I think they should have spelled the party as Labour, considering the Australians utilize the Kings English, when writing. I have been to and worked with the Aussies in war and peace and they seem to understand statements that are balmy, especially when said by politicians.

While I do admit that I am not a tax accountant, I'm sure that I would be able to "understand" Romney's tax returns if I had the time to look at them. I am a bookkeeper by trade; I have worked in the private sector for a large company, handling their payroll, A/R and A/P, and providing all the information the accountant needed for their tax returns. I am now a public employee, working in......the TAX office. My attention span is just fine- thanks so much for your concern.

You figure it's our business and other people's opinions don't matter? Think again. This is a small, interconnected world now, and a global economy. If other countries lose faith in our system, they will look for more reliable partners in business, in defense, in crime fighting, in investment of every kind. And their citizens will stop investing here. What do you suppose will happen to our economy at that point?
@ Proud 2b Liberal: It's ironic that you use education as an example in why socialism is bad, yet the countries who are largely socialist based have much better education numbers than a capitalist society. All the Scandinavian countries rank better than the US in terms of quality of education (not the only metric either) than the US.

For those of you who slept through World History 101 here is a condensed version. Humans originally existed as members of small bands of nomadic hunters/gatherers. They lived on deer in the mountains during the summer and would go to the coast and live on fish and lobster in the winter.
The two most important events in all of history were:
1. The invention of beer, and
2. The invention of the wheel. The wheel was invented to get man to the beer, and the beer to the man.
These facts formed the foundation of modern civilization and together were the catalyst for the splitting of humanity into two distinct subgroups:
1. Liberals
2. Conservatives.
Once beer was discovered, it required grain and that was the beginning of agriculture. Neither the glass bottle nor aluminum can were invented yet, so while our early humans were sitting around waiting for them to be invented, they just stayed close to the brewery. That's how villages were formed.
Some men spent their days tracking and killing animals to BBQ at night while they were drinking beer. This was the beginning of what is known as the Conservative movement.
Other men who were weaker and less skilled at hunting learned to live off the conservatives by showing up for the nightly BBQ's and doing the sewing, fetching, and hair dressing. This was the beginning of the Liberal movement.
Some of these liberal men eventually evolved into women. The rest became known as girlie-men.
Some noteworthy liberal achievements include the domestication of cats, the invention of group therapy and group hugs, the evolution of the Hollywood actor, and the concept of Democratic voting to decide how to divide all the meat and beer that conservatives provided.
Over the years, Conservatives came to be symbolized by the largest, most powerful land animal on earth, the elephant. Liberals are symbolized by the jackass.
Modern liberals like imported beer (with lime added), but most prefer white wine or imported bottled water. They eat raw fish but like their beef well done. Sushi, tofu, and French food are standard liberal fare. Another interesting evolutionary side note: most liberal women have higher testosterone levels than their men. Most social workers, personal injury attorneys, journalists, dreamers in Hollywood and group therapists are liberals.
Conservatives drink domestic beer. They eat red meat and still provide for their women. Conservatives are big-game hunters, rodeo cowboys, firemen, lumberjacks, construction workers, medical doctors, police officers, corporate executives, athletes, Marines, sales reps and generally anyone who works productively. Conservatives who own companies hire other conservatives who want to work for a living.
Liberals produce little or nothing. They like to govern the producers and decide what to do with the production. Liberals believe Europeans are more enlightened than Americans. That is why most of the liberals remained in Europe when conservatives were coming to America. They crept in after the Wild West was tamed and created a business of trying to get more for nothing.

Attorney General Eric Holder finally got fed up Tuesday with claims that the Justice Department went easy in a voting rights case against members of the New Black Panther Party because they are African American.
Holder's frustration over the criticism became evident during a House Appropriations subcommittee hearing as Rep. John Culberson (R-Texas) accused the Justice Department of failing to cooperate with a Civil Rights Commission investigation into the handling of the 2008 incident in which Black Panthers in intimidating outfits and wielding a club stood outside a polling place in Philadelphia.
The Attorney General seemed to take personal offense at a comment Culberson read in which former Democratic activist Bartle Bull called the incident the most serious act of voter intimidation he had witnessed in his career.
"Think about that," Holder said. "When you compare what people endured in the South in the 60s to try to get the right to vote for African Americans, and to compare what people were subjected to there to what happened in Philadelphia—which was inappropriate, certainly that…to describe it in those terms I think does a great disservice to people who put their lives on the line, who risked all, for my people," said Holder, who is black.
Holder noted that his late sister-in-law, Vivian Malone Jones, helped integrate the University of Alabama.
"To compare that kind of courage, that kind of action, and to say that the Black Panther incident wrong thought it might be somehow is greater in magnitude or is of greater concern to us, historically, I think just flies in the face of history and the facts.," Holder said with evident exasperation.
In a series of questions and comments earlier in the hearing, Culberson insisted that race had infected the decision-making process. "There’s clearly evidence, overwhelming evidence, that your Department of Justice refuses to protect the rights of anybody other than African Americans to vote," the Texas Republican said. "There's a pattern of a double standard here."
“I would disagree very vehemently with the notion that there’s overwhelming evidence that that is in fact true,” Holder replied. “This Department of Justice does not enforce the law in a race-conscious way.”
Rep. Chaka Fattah, a Democrat from Philadelphia, said the Black Panthers "should not have been there." But he said the GOP was making too much out of a fleeting incident involving a couple of people.
"The most unethical thing a person can do is make allegations based on absolutely nothing," Fattah said. "The only issue of race is singling out this particular decision...That this rises to national significance is bogus on its face."
Taylorcaruso - wow or wow, repealing the death tax would effect my husband and me. We are blue collar workers (no formal education) who have invested in 3 rental properties which we manage ourselves, and we paid cash to buy 3 1/4 acres of land in the mountains.
We have never bought a bran new car and our house that we have lived in for 22 years was built in 1956. Except for our houses, we have never carried debt and we live within our means. Our 2 youngest are in college and only qualified for small grants because we make too much money which is averages just under 100K a year.
How dare you claim our kids don't deserve an inheritance from us!!! We live a quiet simple life but a significant one. We volunteer helping our community through our church and we have we have a separate savings account that we help people out by loaning money when we have it.
It is our money and we pay our fair share of taxes and our kids work part-time and go to school full time.
Bush did away with the double death tax. We already paid taxes on this money once, why should we have to pay it again?
I thought liberals were tolerant and compassionate but your hate-filled words. We paid the proper taxes and we are not rich.

When the incident first happened, it was stated that these people were arrested and prosecuted. After reading more into it, I found the charges were dropped. I hate seeing that also when I'm at the grocery store. Some folks will always be crooks whether it's welfare fraud, dope dealing, stealing from grandma, tax fraud, or whatever. You can't change that person. That why I was happy with welfare reform! If you want to get people off the dole, you can't talk down to them. You never know what happened to get that person. That's why I'm voting for the Democrats this year. When Newt said he would go to the NAACP and tell people to demand jobs and not welfare checks, that was a slap in my face. I could deal with the occasional person telling me I voted for Obama because he is Black or he looks like me, but I can't deal with someone that has people jumping like puppets because he is grouping a bunch of us together. Same with Mitt! That 47 percent comment was my straw with him. I can't change anyone's mind, but the Republicans did for me!

Price of gas = value of american currency. oil rarely goes up or down. You need more dollars because the dollar lost value. If it takes 95 dollars in american money to buy a barrel of oil, you will only need around 92 dollars in Canadian dollars, maybe less. peel away the wide variety of taxes and you will find that we are paying more then Canada and England. Thsi is not by chance. it is part of the business model of the "new world order" that republicans have worked on for 50 years.

These people have been sucking off the teet of government their entire lives and simply do not have a clue about the mangatude of the mess we are in!

They do not seem to understand that while the rich have BY FAR the most to lose from our runaway national debt, the middle class and poor will be FAR more seriously impacted! If our government does not stop our runaway annual deficits VERY soon, then the only option for our government will be to simply devalue our currency much like Mexico and many other banana-republics have done in the last 75 years. Less than 20 years ago Mexico simply removed three zeros from every bill and coin... so a 1000 peso coin was suddenly worth only 1 peso... and within 3 years the value of this single peso continued to be reduced by more than 50% MORE because of inflation. QE1, QE2, and QE3 are all the first steps to this same result -- and the end result will be the total ruin of our economy -- think the movie MADMAX but worse! IF our currency devalues because of our debt, the people who will be harmed MOST will be those with the most money. But once this happens they will still have the most money because they will have the most zeros to eliminate... and the other 80-90% or so (ALL OF US) will be unemployed! THIS will be the result... and seemingly remains the real goal... of "Hope and Change". If this is what you REALLY want, then I suggest learning how to shoot a weapon to hunt for your food and prepare to stand a post to defend your home... because supermarkets, banks, and ATMs will be over too.
It seems far more reasonable to simply be responsible NOW and for our government to learn to live within its means! The truth is that until we get the lobby's stopped and over turn the Supreme Court that allows all the un regulated money from Influencing our election. The Tea Party has cost the GOP a second presidential election in a row. The only battleground/tossup/in-play states from the list of North Carolina, Florida, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Colorado, Iowa and Virginia in which Romney has a serious shot at carrying the state is North Carolina. 538 has the current odds of Obama winning on Nov 6th as 76.1% --- better than 3 to 1 against Romney.
Non-Christian Romney isn't even polling as well as traitor McCain did in 2004. McCain actually led in the polls for exactly four days (right after he named Palin but before anyone knew anything about her.) Romney has not led in the polls for a single day since he became the presumptive candidate.
Two things are going on here:
1) Australia is trying to engage the US more in order to protect its interests in the Pacific Basin against a rise of a possibly militant China. Australia is a small and sparsely populated country that simply does not have the population of the GDP to offset a mega-China. Australian officials have been keeping quiet because they did not want to upset whoever would win the 2012 election. Obama has been very much involved with strengthening Pacific Basin US military presence. Romney was a big unknown to the Aussies. Now it is being more and more evident that Romney is going to lose, so Australian officians are beginning to show their support. Even Netanyahu in Israel is now kissing up to Obama for the same reason.
2) Australians, like many other people in the world, are very much aware of the "cranks and crazies" who now control the GOP. They have a higher percentage of people who use the internet than the US. And they can see things like the ignorant cranks and crazies that post on NewsVine. What the Aussies cannot determine is that the cranks and crazies are only a small part --- around 12% --- of the US electorate. All they see is loud voices screaming nonsense at the tops of their lungs.
The Aussies have great concerns about the next US president because he will set the Pacific Basin policy to deal with China. The problem is that the Pacific Basin has only two countries outside of the US with the GDP and the cachet to lead --- Japan and China. And most people in the Pacific Basin hate the Japanese like a plague and the Japanese economy has been in the crapper since 1990 and its GDP is not what it once was. That leaves the US as the only offset to China's growing military and agressiveness.
Late last year Obama quietly started a deployment of 2500 US Marines to Australia as a message to China that we take our allies concerns seriously. Other countries such as Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia, New Zealand, etc are trying to establish some sort of a SEATO-like military and economic oprganization with the US as its leader.

Majour factories, industries are closing down or closed..there are 1,000's losing their jobs, people losing their houses just the same as in the States. Willowbrook....the fastest way to pay down the deficit is with tax revenues, but we need people to pay taxes through payroll, income, sales, capital gains, and many other forms of taxes before we can legitimately reduce our deficit. I don't think you realize that 2 unpaid for wars and a $ trillion tax cut at the same time don't reduce deficits, they explode them. Just about EVERY day I read STUPID comments here from liberals who seem to not understand the MASSIVE size of our annual deficits and national debt. Just the other day someone here argued that by Russia refusing $50 MILLION in aid this would allow us to balance our deficits AND pay for ObamaCare. Our current debt is over $16 TRILLION... this is $16,000,000 MILLION. ANY liberal fool should be able to understand that $50,000,000 is just a TINY fraction of $16,000,000,000,000. These people have been sucking off the teet of government their entire lives and simply do not have a clue about the mangatude of the mess we are in!
At the same time these idiot liberals will rant about the rich and try to tell us that they are all that Romney cares about. They do not seem to understand that while the rich have BY FAR the most to lose from our runaway national debt, the middle class and poor will be FAR more seriously impacted! If our government does not stop our runaway annual deficits VERY soon, then the only option for our government will be to simply devalue our currency much like Mexico and many other banana-republics have done in the last 75 years. Less than 20 years ago Mexico simply removed three zeros from every bill and coin... so a 1000 peso coin was suddenly worth only 1 peso... and within 3 years the value of this single peso continued to be reduced by more than 50% MORE because of inflation. QE1, QE2, and QE3 are all the first steps to this same result -- and the end result will be the total ruin of our economy -- think the movie MADMAX but worse! IF our currency devalues because of our debt, the people who will be harmed MOST will be those with the most money. But once this happens they will still have the most money because they will have the most zeros to eliminate... and the other 80-90% or so (ALL OF US) will be unemployed! THIS will be the result... and seemingly remains the real goal... of "Hope and Change". If this is what you REALLY want, then I suggest learning how to shoot a weapon to hunt for your food and prepare to stand a post to defend your home... because supermarkets, banks, and ATMs will be over too.
It seems far more reasonable to simply be responsible NOW and for our government to learn to live within its means! Lest we forget, the power of government AND the financing of this government comes from the people. Liberals seems far too comfortable thinking it's the other way around. WE THE PEOPLE need to stand-up and remind them this at the election booth. The rich also disproportionately take advantage of the country's infrastructure to make their income. That doesn't come for free.
That's not entirely true. Our recent economic problems are caused by the fact that the rich have too much money and don't know what to do with it. Since they don't have a clue, they give it to Wall Street. The problem that then comes about is that Wall Street doesn't know what to do with so much money either. So they come up with Ponzi schemes that caused the housing disaster, and before that, in 2000, the dotcom rise and crash. All because too much money was chasing too little assets.
Sure, there are people out there like Warren Buffet or Bill Gates, or the late Steve Jobs, geniuses who know exactly what to do with money. But keep in mind that they didn't inherit their wealth - they made it. And by and large, entrepreneurs are as likely to come from the working class as they are to come from the ranks of the rich.
If you create a strong social safety net, you are going to encourage the entrepreneur to take risks, because if s/he fails, hey, they can just collect unemployment till their next great idea. Take that away, and they will be off, working for The Man, and whatever great innovation they may come up with will be lost.
The reason America has done so well is because we have supported our small businesses and innovators, not when they were rich - but when they were poor. Because we were a society with a strong social safety net. You take that apart, and innovation stops and other countries start pushing to the fore.
Guess what's been happening in comparison to the rest of the world? Are we growing or we losing our footing?

I am getting so tired of hearing - the rich pay to much in taxes already...GET REAL. I did just a little research on my own. Last year I made right at $40,000 - when I filed my income taxes - I paid $2,000 in Federal Taxes + taxes for - state, local, SS, medicare, sales, gas, etc. and I found out there were several 1,000 people who made OVER $200,000 and paid $0.00 in Federal Taxes. This happens so much more than many people understand. How much has Romney paid in taxes? He hasn't disclosed even 1 FULL year of tax returnes. Do some research people - who do you think is paying more in taxes? THE MIDDLE CLASS - THAT IS WHO. But they want to keep you blind to this fact. Even President Obama has said more than once that he thinks that he "himself" should have to pay more in taxes because he makes more.

The countries infrastructure was built with tax money given to the government by rich people. The government uses tax payer money to build roads and you want us to say thank you? He isn't taxed at a lower rate because he is rich he is taxed at the capital gains rate, not income rate, because he makes money off investments not from a income. Obama has said he will raise income rates and Romney and others will pay the same rate as they pay now.
2.) It is Romney, not Obama who has said he will get rid of tax loophole that allow businesses like G.E. to pay zero in taxes. It has been Romney who says you can get more tax money from the rich by closing loopholes instead of raising rates. Obama has never talked about loopholes because he wants to pretend he is taking it to the rich while cutting deals to let his friends at G.E. and Goldman Sachs to pay very little using the loopholes he offers for their continued support.
3.) The middle class DOES NOT pay the majority of taxes. You are just factually wrong, and here are a list of facts that don't support any of the liberal rhetoric.

Special "visitor" on numerous occasions was SEIU Trumpka whose "Agenda was Obama’s agenda". 4. To counter FOIA requests, the DHS has ordered, since July 2009, "career employees to provide political staffers with information about the people who asked for records — such as where they lived and whether they were private citizens or reporters — and about the organizations where they worked".

1. During his presidential campaign, Obama indicated that his mother died of cancer after being denied coverage for a pre-existing condition. Her image was used in a campaign ad, repeated the claim in debates, and used the same rhetoric as President when selling ObamaCare to the American people. However, it has been reported that Obama’s mother, Ann Dunham, had health insurance through her employer and was only denied disability insurance. And, Mrs. Obama claimed that Mr. Obama’s mother was discriminated against at a bank in Hawaii when in fact, she was the first female to be selected to a top banking position.
2. Obama pledged during his campaign and throughout his presidency not to raise taxes on families making less than $250,000. ObamaCare’s mandate (TAX) will be on all Americans not having health insurance coverage. And the TAX will be administered by the IRS which routinely gives out BILLIONS of taxpayer dollars to Illegal Aliens (Immigrants).
3. Mr. Obama repeatedly pledged that under his health care measure, Americans would be able to keep their doctors. However, many employers will cut their health care plans and force workers into the state health care exchanges. A survey indicated that more than 30% of companies will discontinue coverage for their workers. Further, about 3,000,000 individuals will not be covered under ObamaCare. when ObamaCare’s target was health care for ALL Americans.
4. Cut Medicare/Medicare Advantage by $ 714,000,000,000 to use that money to support ObamaCare. How is that working for you, Liberal Medicare (Senior) Advantage subscribers ?
5. New CBO estimates that ObamaCare will increase the unemployment rate to 8.7% and that 6,000,000 Americans will PAY A TAX.

Why is so much time spent on talk about taxing the rich instead of boosting the income of everyone? President Bush was as much about big government as anyone else. We have tried that, it does not work. Sometimes less is truly more. Are present rate of spending is never going to be supported by tax revenue. Meaning that no matter how high we tax the rich and the not so rich we could not generate the income tax to cover our present spending levels.
The lastest Forbes list of the top 400 was just in the news. Their total asets was 1.7 trillion dollars. So if we took everything that they owned we could balance the budget for 1 year. Think about that.
Also think about this, what has any of President Obama's policies done to help the middle class? The rich have increased their worth faster while has has been president than any time over the last 20 years.

Less than 20 years ago Mexico simply removed three zeros from every bill and coin... so a 1000 peso coin was suddenly worth only 1 peso... and within 3 years the value of this single peso continued to be reduced by more than 50% MORE because of inflation. QE1, QE2, and QE3 are all the first steps to this same result -- and the end result will be the total ruin of our economy -- think the movie MADMAX but worse! IF our currency devalues because of our debt, the people who will be harmed MOST will be those with the most money. But once this happens they will still have the most money because they will have the most zeros to eliminate... and the other 80-90% or so (ALL OF US) will be unemployed! THIS will be the result... and seemingly remains the real goal... of "Hope and Change". It was unchecked capitalism that created the Depression. In a nutshell - A couple of very, very, very rich guys got together and decided to call all the bank loans at once. Banks didn't have enough to cover, the market crashed as everyone panicked and tried to grab their cash at once. So they created an entity called the Fed which prints money at an interest rate. Pretty much ensuring that the tax payer becomes an indentured servant to the gov't and the gov't is at the mercy of the real money lenders. Pretty slick gig if you can get it, eh?! BTW - that same rich guy around 1915 or so, held a patent for an airplane engine that required "proprietary" fuel to make the engines run. He sold a whole heap of planes to a country that decided they want to take over the world. Now it's hard to take over the World when you don't have an AirForce and the other guys do. If you think 50% of working Americans paying $2.5 trillion dollars to the government isn't enough, or fair, you have a problem.
If you take a step back, and can set aside the partisanship for a minute and assess what has come down, you might come away with a clearer view of where we are and why.
The culprit for our financial situation is greed and it lies at the feet of the Banking Industry. The removal of the Glass-Stiegall Act that was in place since the 30's opened the door for the Banking Industry to run amuck. The Sub Prime lending went crazy by lowering lending standards that defied basic lending principles allowing many to enter into financial instruments they were not quailified to handle.
Many were spending future dollars they hadn't earned and could not be responsible for. The dollar was circulating alright, everything looked rosy, the Bankers and lending institutions were making outrageous amounts of money, and people had access to more money than they were use to, but it was all built on sand and we know the outcome.
George Bush was probably one of the unluckiest Presidents ever. First year in office 9/11, then natural disasters and eventually the second greatest financial collapse in history; timing is everything. The economy tanks and many lose their jobs and homes. Also unfortunately for Bush the Market, which for the most part regualtes itself, hit a high mark at 14,000, but a fundamental of the market is that it corrects itself by retracing 50%, which it did by falling to 6400, and then rebounding. Being the President, when times are good or bad too much credit is given either way.
Economists believe the way out of a recession is to spend, spend, spend. In most cases they are probably right; but this is not a normal recession. Usually when a recession hits, business slows and the dollar doesn't circulate as much, and many must tighten their belts but eventually wade through it and things rebound.
This scenario is different, not only did the dollar stop circulating, many lost their JOBS AND THEIR HOMES! too a level we have not experienced in the past. So this recovery will NOT BE like most recoveries. Look at how much money the Feds and the Government have thrown at it and it's not taking affect. Why? Because people have had their asses kicked and they refuse to get back in that situation again. They are being extremely cautious on the rebound and THEY ARE NOT WILLING OR HAVE THE MEANS TO SPEND.
Until the Democrats or Republicans come up with a concrete solution that the people can believe in, they are going to sit on the sidelines and wait it out. Unfortunately for Obama, this is not good.
In fairness to him, it doesn't TOTALLY sit at his doorstep, BUT I personally feel his policies are not business friendly, and because of his background as a community organizer especially coming out an environment like Chicago, his tendencies are to try and HELP those less fortunate, but his methods do not apply when it comes to the larger picture of running a country, other factors and considerations alter the landscape making his approach less affective.
Republicans being obstructionist is a travesty. Putting party before country is flat out wrong and as an American I'm dismayed by this action, but for me, this party is the lessor of the two evils. Just as the Republican party is not as it was, the Democrats of the anything goes party is not the same either. Things have changed alright but not for the better.

You guys seem to be ignoring the fact that Australia has a public debt/GDP ratio of 6% versus our 101%, universal single payer healthcare, and the highest proportion of GDP transferred via welfare programs to the poorest 1/5th of their population in the entire Western world. And they were able to escape the Great Recession altogether, with one of the Western world's highest economic growth rates.

Their talk of smaller govt., lower taxes, getting lazy people off the dole, it all certainly did give us a jolt and an awakening. We were too busy looking after our families instead of paying attention to politics, but after a couple of rallies where guns appeared, where name calling and insults became the language of the day, many of us dropped away, thankfully, and took it upon ourselves to do some deep digging.
Every republican president INCREASED government employees. We see this now in the repub/tparty governed states, the difference is most of these jobs are given as favors returned rather than to qualified people, and at better salaries than before. WI, OH, MI, IA as examples. BTW, under President Obama, we have less federal employees, even with a population increase.
More money to spend - a robust economy? It was a gradual downspin for the job market after the bush tax cuts. That's when companies were given the advantages of moving their jobs to countries that had lower labor costs, and the govt. subsidized their moves. Bain didn't grow because of any investments for increasing jobs in the U.S., but because of the manipulation of tax laws and current accounting practices, outsourcing.

In this case, the devil is in the details, as it is much easier for a state with high unemployment to get a much higher ranking. How much easier do you think it is for a state to place far higher when they are coming off an unemployment rate of, oh say, 7%?
I'll tell you they will place a LOT higher, than a state who is trying to lower an unemployment rate, that by any measure, is already doing well.

The ONLY way to ever get the deficit down by any significant number is to start eliminating any government agency that isn't authorized under Article 1, Section 8, of the Constitution, and Romney is NOT going to do that. You watch, if he wins, there will be vote after vote to keep increasing the government debt.

According to Romney and the Republican Party - anyone not paying taxes, the 47%, are worthless freeloaders. That means that if you are working hard and still don't make enough money to pay taxes, you are worthless in eyes of Tea Party types. After comments and positions like that, I don't think Republicans should bring up the 'class warfare' thing, its pretty obviouse that Republicans, Romney and Tea Party types have nothing but disdain for the hard working middle class people trying to raise children in an atmosphere of Republican hate.

Yes, the Republicans certainly believe in spending their way to prosperity as well like the billions and billions in subsidies to agriculture, oil, gas, business write offs in general ( almost 1 trillion a year), creating useless big wars, so the "industry" can spend and spend on mil research/planes ,surveillance, drones weapons,guns, canons tanks and off course ships, all spending for business paid almost entirely by government, never mind the big car business, that did not work so well, so they also got from the till, never mind the hundreds of thousands of "research" project at universities done by subsidies for business, so they can later rip the benefits, like specially in medical---, So I am sorry some people here are not completely with it,

Obama supporters have it the other way around.They want to debate blame while the house burns to the ground.This President is cruising towards the fiscal cliff over which lies massive cuts to every social program keeping the poor and low income off the street.Incredibly,he has no serious plan to avert the crises nor even displays any urgency.He calls it a"long range" problem because it's politcally convenient.In fact default will occur without a countdown,no midnight hour legislation to avert the crises.Instead it will be announced as always - by surprise,in the global markets.

Because of the dire circumstances Obama is,above all,the greatest threat to the social safety net since it's creation.This Dem is voting for Romney because our current president leaves us no rational alternative.He has failed at home and now,abroad,and in spectacular fashion.Romney did a great job rescuing the 2002 Olympics from a 300 million debt and left office a popular Gov. in a very liberal state.Obviously,he got along with the dem legislature.

This country has tried Republican ideology three times: (1) during the 1920's with Calvin Coolidge (Mr. Deregulation of that era) and that brought us the great depression; (2) the 1980's with Reagan-Bush who collectively increased the debt from $200 Billion under Carter to 3.5 trillion when Bush left office and left us the Savings & Loan Crisis and Recession of 1989; and, (3) the 2000's with Dubya Bush who turned Clinton's budget surpluses into red ink and increased the debt to 9 Trillion and brought us the Subprime mess, the Savings & Loan Crisis' big brother and this depression. Three strikes and you should be out! The Republicans claim if government gets out of everything, everything will be honky dory. Wrong! We have law and order on the street and we need it in the Marketplace, too. Without severe government regulation on big business, it will victimize the public every time!
